Abstract

The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is preparing to operate a high-power cyclotron for production of isotopes for nuclear medicine. <superscript>67,68</superscript>Ga are some of the target isotopes as studies have shown that both of them can be produced via direct proton irradiation with a cyclotron. The aim of this study is to assess numerically the production of both nuclides <superscript>67,68</superscript>Ga via (p, xn) reactions on <superscript>67,68</superscript>Zn-enriched solid targets. Various irradiation conditions are compared with respect to End Of Beam activity and contaminants. The FLUKA code is used for the simulations and the results are compared with published experimental data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
