In contrast to the 12th and 13th centuries, the sources for the study of the Kotor notary in the 14thand 15thcenturies are significantly more numerous and diverse. In the first place, there are office notarial writings that have been preserved from the period 1326-1337, then the second half of the last decade of the 14th century, and, almost continuously, from the end of the second decade of the 15th century. Apart from them, individual documents created in the Kotor office during the 14th century have been preserved, which represent a very valuable source for studying the time when certain notaries worked in Kotor. An extremely important source for the study of this issue is the Grbalj cadaster which contains the notes of notaries and chancellors who drew up documents on the ownership of land holdings in Grbalj. Mentions of some Kotor notaries and the time of their activity can be found in the Dubrovnik archives of the 13th-15th centuries. A special type of source about Kotor notaries of the 14thand 15thcenturies contains their lists. One such can be found in the Zagreb copy of the Kotor Statute and contains a list of notaries from 1380 to 1487. The second one is the list of notaries and chancellors located in the National University Library in Zagreb. It is a particularly valuable source for the chronology of Kotor notaries from the second half of the 14th century, providing information about them until 1705. It brings the names of some hitherto little-known Kotor notaries from the beginning of the 15th century.

The first mentions of the nuns of St. Clare in Kotor date from the fourth decade of the 14th century. Their position in that commune improved in the second half of that century. In December 1364, at the request of the Kotor authorities, Pope Urban V asked the Bishop of Kotor, Dujmo II, to restore the former Benedictine monastery due to the needs of the nuns St. Clare. In the presence of the highest authorities of Kotor, on October 10th, 1365, a document on this legal action was issued. It is preserved in a transcript in the manuscript collection II b 21, held in the manuscript department of the Archives of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. The document contained the act of assigning the monastery to the Clarisses, prescribing the income which was given on that occasion to the monastery of St. Clare, as well as the appointment of Clare of Foro Julius as its first nun. Part of the transferred revenues consisted of communal revenues from fish market customs duties. The second part of the donation consisted of revenues in the amount of two hundred perpers, half of which came from the butcher's slaughterhouse, and the other half from customs revenue on wine. Customs officers or gabellers, ie persons who leased the mentioned revenues, were obliged to take care of the collection of those revenues. Revenues that the monastery of St. Clare received in October 1365 and are mentioned during the 15th century. Dukal of October 15th, 1447, says that the Venetian authorities after Kotor accepted their rule, recognized the right of the nuns of St. Clare on the said revenues. However, Kotor municipal authorities have occasionally challenged the right to collect assigned revenues, as well as the right to elect procurators themselves. Тема овог рада јесте проучавање комуналног уређења которске комуне у периоду од средине XII до краја XIII вијека. Хронолошки почетак рада детерминисан је већим бројем извора за проучавање теме. То се скоро временски поклапа са промјеном врховног господара Котора, а што је имало одређене последице на његово унутарашње уређење. Друга хронолошка граница рада односи се на завршетак процеса заокруживања аутономије комуне у односу на српску државу. Кроз приказ свих сегмената друштва циљ је добијање научне слике о политичком, правном и друштвеном уређењу комуне. Сагледавање привредног развоја и црквених прилика јесу такође циљеви овог рада, а шта је учињено у ширем географском контексту. Да би се добила што поузданија сазнања о теми која је предмет рада, често је било нужно проучавати политички, правни, друштвени и привредни систем которске комуне и у периоду који излази из основне теме рада. На тај начин могао се у одређеној мјери пратити континуитет, односно дисконтинуитет, неких појава и процеса у которској комуни током средњег вијека. Како би се стекла што потпунија слика правних, друштвених и привредних структура которског друштва, у неким случајевима било је неопходно сагледати, тражити паралеле и правити поређења са правним системима не само сусједних комуна и држава, него посезати и за старијим правним рјешењима као правним узорима за нормирање права у Котору., The subject of this thesis is the research into communal organization of Kotor from mid-12th to end of the 13th century. The chronological beginning is determined by a number of sources for studying the topic. This coincided almost instantly with the change of the supreme governor of Kotor, which had some consequences on its internal organization. The other chronological determinant relates to the completion of the process of assembling the autonomy of the commune in relation to the Serbian state. Through the presentation of all segments of society, the goal is to obtain a scientific picture of the political, legal and social order of the commune. Examining economic development and ecclesiastical opportunities are also the goals of this thesis, as well as what is done in a wider geographic context. In order to get a clearer comprehension as possible about this topic subject, it was often necessary to study the political, legal, social and economic system of Kotor communes in other periods as well, outside the provisional chronological scope. In this way, continuity, or discontinuity, of some phenomena and processes in the Kotor commune during the Middle Ages could be monitored to a certain extent. In order to obtain a more complete picture of the legal, social and economic structures of the Kotor society, in some cases it was necessary to look out, seek parallels and make comparisons with the legal systems of not only neighboring communes and states, but also to apply older legal solutions as legal patterns for coding of rights in Kotor.
