The magnetocaloric response of off-polycrystalline [Ni.sub.2]MnGa polycrystal and single-crystal samples with a Curie temperature coincident with the martensitic transition temperature are investigated. The direct measurement of temperature change during an adiabatic transformation under a maximum field variation (DELTA)H = 5.6 x [10.sup.6] was performed.

The magnetocaloric response of off-stoichiometric Ni2MnGa polycrystal and single-crystal samples with a Curie temperature coincident with the martensitic transition temperature was investigated. The direct measurement of temperature change (ΔTad) during an adiabatic transformation under a maximum field variation ΔH=5.6×106 A/m (7 T) was performed. The polycrystalline sample shows a maximum ΔTad≈1.5 K at a temperature close to the structural transition. The value of ΔTad and the 20 K span of the ΔTad peak encourage further studies of the effect of microstructure on the magnetocaloric response of Ni2MnGa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The occurrence of unprobable adverse events during laparoscopic surgery has increased over the years. Among them, pituitary apoplexy has been reported only twice. The increase in the abdominal pressure might play a role in the pituitary apoplexy, as well as hemodynamic instability, anticoagulant drugs and airembolism due to insufflation of CO2 during pneumoperitoneum. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is genetically characterized by the IG::CCND1 translocation mediated by an aberrant V(D)J rearrangement. CCND1 translocations and overexpression have been identified in occasional aggressive B-cell lymphomas with unusual features for MCL. The mechanism generating CCND1 rearrangements in these tumors and their genomic profile are not known. We have reconstructed the IG::CCND1 translocations and the genomic profile of 13 SOX11-negative aggressive B-cell lymphomas using whole genome/exome and target sequencing. The mechanism behind the translocation was an aberrant V(D)J rearrangement in three tumors and by an anomalous IGH class-switch recombination (CSR) or somatic hypermutation (SHM) mechanism in ten. The tumors with a V(D)J-mediated translocation were two blastoid MCL and one high-grade B-cell lymphoma. None of them had a mutational profile suggestive of DLBCL. The ten tumors with CSR/SHM-mediated IGH::CCND1 were mainly large B-cell lymphomas, with mutated genes commonly seen in DLBCL and BCL6 rearrangements in 6. Two cases, which transformed from marginal zone lymphomas, carried mutations in KLF2, TNFAIP3 and KMT2D. These findings expand the spectrum of tumors carrying CCND1 rearrangement that may occur as a secondary event in DLBCL mediated by aberrant CSR/SHM and associated with a mutational profile different from that of MCL., (© 2024. Tumor cell fraction (TCF) estimation is a common clinical task with well-established large interobserver variability. It thus provides an ideal test bed to evaluate potential impacts of employing a tumor cell fraction computer-aided diagnostic (TCFCAD) tool to support pathologists' evaluation. During a National Slide Seminar event, pathologists (n = 69) were asked to visually estimate TCF in 10 regions of interest (ROIs) from hematoxylin and eosin colorectal cancer images intentionally curated for diverse tissue compositions, cellularity, and stain intensities. Next, they re-evaluated the same ROIs while being provided a TCFCAD-created overlay highlighting predicted tumor vs nontumor cells, together with the corresponding TCF percentage. Participants also reported confidence levels in their assessments using a 5-tier scale, indicating no confidence to high confidence, respectively. The TCF ground truth (GT) was defined by manual cell-counting by experts. When assisted, interobserver variability significantly decreased, showing estimates converging to the GT. This improvement remained even when TCFCAD predictions deviated slightly from the GT. The standard deviation (SD) of the estimated TCF to the GT across ROIs was 9.9% vs 5.8% with TCFCAD (P < .0001). The intraclass correlation coefficient increased from 0.8 to 0.93 (95% CI, 0.65-0.93 vs 0.86-0.98), and pathologists stated feeling more confident when aided (3.67 ± 0.81 vs 4.17 ± 0.82 with the computer-aided diagnostic [CAD] tool). TCFCAD estimation support demonstrated improved scoring accuracy, interpathologist agreement, and scoring confidence. Background: The medium-term results of reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) that has been performed by a single surgeon have been previously reported. The purpose of this study was to investigate the minimum 10-year clinical and radiographic outcomes of these patients., Methods: In this prospective cohort study, 27 patients were evaluated after RSA for massive rotator cuff tear with or without eccentric osteoarthritis (OA) or concentric OA with the Constant-Murley Score (CMS), range of motion (ROM), and a radiologic assessment., Results: At a mean 12-year follow-up, the CMS and ROM were significantly improved when compared with the baseline values (all P  < .001). Once stratified by diagnosis, no difference in the ROM or total CMS was found between patients with massive rotator cuff tear with/without eccentric OA and those with concentric OA. Neither ROM nor CMS decreased when compared to the mid-term values of the previous study, for both the overall population and the diagnosis-stratified groups. Scapular notching was reported in 66.7% of cases that was similar to the data reported at mid-term follow-up. The calcification rate was 59.3% at the long-term evaluation, and there were no differences between the same case-series population (51.9%; P  = .785) and the whole population at mid-term follow-up (47%; P  = .358)., Conclusion: RSA led to excellent clinical and functional outcomes for patients up to 17 years postoperatively, and there was no decrease in the CMS over time. Objective: Modic changes (MC) are vertebral bone marrow lesions seen on magnetic resonance images, that associate with disc degeneration and low back pain (LBP). Few studies described MC histopathology qualitatively based on a few patient samples. CD90-positive bone marrow stromal cells were shown to be pro-fibrotic in MC. We aimed to provide the first semi-quantitative histomorphometric analysis of MC bone marrow. We hypothesized a role of CD90-positive cells in MC pathomechanisms., Design: Human biopsies from Modic type 1 changes (MC1, n ​= ​8), Modic type 2 changes (MC2, n ​= ​6), and control biopsies (MC0, n ​= ​8) from adjacent vertebrae were obtained from 14 LBP patients during lumbar spinal fusion. Biopsies were processed for histology/immunohistochemistry. Inflammatory changes (oedema, inflammatory infiltrates), fibrotic changes (connective tissue, type I and III collagen, fibronectin, α-smooth muscle actin), and amount of bone marrow stromal cells (CD90, CD105) were scored. Scores for MC0, MC1, and MC2 were compared with non-parametric tests. Pairwise correlations, hierarchical clustering, and principal component analysis of histological readouts were calculated to identify most important histomorphometric MC characteristics., Results: Compared to MC0, MC1 had more connective tissue, oedema, inflammatory infiltrates, and CD90 + cells. MC2 compared to MC0 had more oedema and CD90 + cells. Scores of CD90 correlated and clustered with inflammatory and fibrotic changes. Amount of connective tissue correlated with LBP., Conclusion: Accumulation of CD90 + cells is a major characteristic of MC in patients undergoing lumbar spinal fusion and associates with inflammatory and fibrotic changes. BCOR-rearranged sarcomas are rare and belong to the Ewing-like sarcomas (ELS). Their morphology and histopathological features make the diagnosis challenging. We present a case, initially diagnosed as an unusual extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC). A 54-year-old male patient developed an asymptomatic swelling of the lower leg. Imaging showed a 9.5-cm large intramuscular soft tissue mass. Due to its morphological and immunohistochemical profile on biopsy, it was initially diagnosed as an EMC. The patient was treated by complete resection and adjuvant radiotherapy and remained free of tumor at 7 years follow-up. Using next-generation sequencing (NGS), we retrospectively identified RGAG1-BCOR gene fusion (confirmed by RT-PCR), which has not been described in somatic soft tissue tumors so far. This finding broadens the spectrum of partner genes in the BCOR-rearranged sarcomas in a tumor with a well-documented, long clinical follow-up., (© 2021. The Author(s).)
