Abstract

This paper presents a synthesis of the Navigation Aided Intelligent Cruise Control (NAICC) project whose aim is to provide the best possible aid to the driver of a motor vehicle. In a first step, it consists of the intelligent control of the vehicle's speed on an open road by adapting it to the road profile on the basis of information from the vehicle and the navigation system. The paper first describes the project as a whole, then the tools and methods developed, a few simulations, the implementation on the actual vehicle and eventually the first highly promising results.

Abstract

International audience; In this paper we derive a dynamic friction force for road/tire interaction for wheeled ground vehicles. The model is based on a similar dynamic friction model for contact developed previously for contact-point friction problems, called the LuGre model. We show that the dynamic LuGre friction model is able to accurately capture velocity and rod/surface dependence of the tire friction force. A comparison between the friction forces predicted by our model and experimental data is also provided.
