- Abstract
Linguistics considers different classifications of surnames according to their motivation, morphology or semantics. In the case of Galician surnames, Boullón- Agrelo (2008) proposes a classification based on three main groups: appellatives, patronymics and toponymics. In order to classify Galician surnames in these three categories, Web Scraping techniques were used, i.e. a process of extracting content and data from websites, scraping official Galician, Spanish and even Portuguese language dictionaries. These techniques were very useful, especially for appellatives.

The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of different endodontic irrigants and adhesive systems on the resin bond strength of fiber post cementation. In total, 144 single-rooted, unrestored human teeth were endodontically treated and randomly divided into 12 groups according to four endodontic irrigants (distilled water as control; EDTA 17%; NaOCl 5%; chlorhexidine digluconate 2%) and three different adhesive/resin cement systems (etch-and-rinse: orthophosphoric acid, Parabond
® A+B/Paracore® ; self-etch: ParaBond® Non-Rinse Conditioner, Parabond® A+B/Paracore® ; Universal: ClearfilTM Universal Bond/ClearfilTM DC Core Plus). Forty-eight hours after post cementation, ten teeth from each group were cross-sectioned into three discs (cervical, middle and apical regions). Thirty specimens of each group (n = 30) were submitted to a push-out test at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The remaining two teeth of each group were sectioned in the same manner, and the resin–dentin interface was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results were statistically analyzed with the ANOVA test and Tukey's test (p < 0,01). The adhesive protocols and post space region showed no significant effect on bond strength (p > 0.01). The combination of NaOCl 5% and ClearfilTM Universal Bond reduced the adhesive strength (p < 0.01). The NaOCl 5%, in relation to other irrigants, significantly decreased the push-out bond strength. - Abstract
The rarity of lipodystrophies implies that they are not well-known, leading to delays in diagnosis/misdiagnosis. The aim of this study was to assess the natural course and comorbidities of generalised and partial lipodystrophy in Spain to contribute to their understanding. Thus, a total of 140 patients were evaluated (77.1% with partial lipodystrophy and 22.9% with generalised lipodystrophy). Clinical data were collected in a longitudinal setting with a median follow-up of 4.7 (0.5-17.6) years. Anthropometry and body composition studies were carried out and analytical parameters were also recorded. The estimated prevalence of all lipodystrophies in Spain, excluding Köbberling syndrome, was 2.78 cases/million. The onset of phenotype occurred during childhood in generalised lipodystrophy and during adolescence-adulthood in partial lipodystrophy, with the delay in diagnosis being considerable for both cohorts. There are specific clinical findings that should be highlighted as useful features to take into account when making the differential diagnosis of these disorders. Patients with generalised lipodystrophy were found to develop their first metabolic abnormalities sooner and a different lipid profile has also been observed. Mean time to death was 83.8 ± 2.5 years, being shorter among patients with generalised lipodystrophy. These results provide an initial point of comparison for ongoing prospective studies such as the ECLip Registry study.

- Abstract
Little is known about abuse and violence against elderly women, as well as prevention and intervention strategies. We present the results of an investigation that has as its objective the elaboration of the Location Map of elderly women victims of gender violence, analyzing their territorial distribution in the specific case of the Autonomous Community of Galicia, Spain, and its relationship with environmental, social, and territorial variables. The results of our research on the location and distribution of the rates of elderly women victims of gender violence show its direct relationship with low demographic density, aging, and dependency, which is associated with disabled people. The mapping resulting can facilitate the territorial planning of social and health services aimed at elderly women in rural areas. The interquartile classification makes it possible to delimit areas of intervention at a spatial level, differentiating those municipalities with the highest and lowest prevalence

- Abstract
Resource assignment and scheduling models provides an automatic and fast decision support system for wildfire suppression logistics. However, this process generates challenging optimization problems in many real-world cases, and the computational time becomes a critical issue, especially in realistic-size instances. Thus, to overcome that limitation, this work studies and applies a set of decomposition techniques such as augmented Lagrangian, branch and price, and Benders decomposition’s to a wildfire suppression model. Moreover, a reformulation strategy, inspired by Benders’ decomposition, is also introduced and demonstrated. Finally, a numerical study comparing the behavior of the proposals using different problem sizes is conducted

- Abstract
Introduction Risk stratification of patients with COVID-19 can be fundamental to support clinical decision-making and optimize resources. The objective of our study is to identify among the routinely tested clinical and analytical parameters those that would allow us to determine patients with the highest risk of dying from COVID-19. Material and methods We carried out a retrospective cohort multicentric study by consecutively, including hospitalized patients with COVID-19 admitted in any of the 11 hospitals in the healthcare network of HM Hospitals-Spain. We collected the clinical, demographic, analytical, and radiological data from the patient's medical records. To assess each of the biomarkers’ predictive impact and measure the statistical significance of the variables involved in the analysis, we applied a random forest with a permutation method. We used the similarity measure induced by a previously classification model and adjusted the k-groups clustering algorithm based on the energy distance to stratify patients into a high and low-risk group. Finally, we adjusted two optimal classification trees to have a schematic representation of the cut-off points. Results We included 1246 patients (average age of 65.36 years, 62% males). During the study one hundred sixty-eight patients (13%) died. High values of age, D-Dimer, White Blood Cell, Na, CRP, and creatinine represent the factors that identify high-risk patients who would die. Conclusions Age seems to be the primary predictor of mortality in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, while the impact of acute phase reactants and blood cellularity is also highly relevant.

- Abstract

- Abstract
This book of proceedings collects the abstracts of the talks and posters presented at the third International Workshop on Advances in Directional Statistics (ADISTA22). It was a great pleasure to be able to meet during these trying times of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, and we are grateful to all those who have collaborated in the ADISTA22 organization. In order to allay potential fears of contracting COVID on long journeys to Santiago de Compostela, the workshop has been organized to have a hybrid format with talks and posters presented both by those participating in person in Santiago and by others participating online from their home countries. We consider this to be the optimal format for the workshop in the current circumstances. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we were delighted to be able to welcome all 57 participants who took up our invitation to participate in the workshop: 33 in person and 24 online, from no less than 18 countries (Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, USA). One of the central themes of the postponed ADISTA20 workshop was to be a celebration of Kanti Mardia’s 85th Birthday. However, its postponement meant that we were unable to mark that event collectively. Instead, ADISTA22 provided a venue to celebrate another landmark event in the development of the field: namely, the publication 50 years ago, in 1972, of Kanti’s seminal monograph Statistics of Directional Data. Since its publication, the field of Directional Statistics has had periods in which its development has been more vigorous than in others, with interesting new applications often stimulating renewed interest. We sincerely hope that the workshop has provided a vehicle for stimulating dialogue and collaboration, leading to important future developments in the field. We would like to thank most sincerely the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) fo

- Abstract
Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) devices show great potential for application in Forest Inventories (FIs) as they are capable of registering high resolution point clouds rapidly and automatically. Nevertheless, operational use of TLS for FI purposes has been hampered by the absence of algorithms for processing the acquired data, particularly in the single-scan mode, as occlusions result in loss of information. The R package FORTLS has been developed to overcome this obstacle, as it automates the processing of single-scan TLS point cloud data for forestry purposes and includes several features that deal with occlusions. FORTLS makes use of the main advantage of the single-scan scenario in FI, thus improving the efficiency of data acquisition and post-processing. All of these features of the FORTLS package are potentially valuable for the operational use of TLS in FIs, in combination with inference techniques derived from model-based and model-assisted approaches

- Abstract
Knowing the risk of a forest fire occurring in a given area is key to carrying out prevention and management of fire extinguishing operations. The difficulty of knowing this risk lies in the particular characteristics of each geographical place, since the same risk index may not have the same validity in different regions. Due to this, a risk index for Galicia ca- pable of adapting to different parts of the geography of Spain has been developed. It is based on an existing risk index developed by ICONA to which a modification has been added which takes into account the recurrence of forest fires. The weights for both sub-indices, ICONA, and recurrence, that make up the new index are calculated from support vector ma- chines. In Galicia, the risk value provided by the new index is found to be higher than that provided by ICONA, Conocer el riesgo de que se produzca un incendio en un área determinada es clave para llevar a cabo labores de prevención y de gestión de operativos de extinción. - Abstract
This study intended to help practitioners selecting the appropriate motionaccording to their level of expertise for glide path and complete root canalpreparation of curved canals in terms of instrument fracture and preparationtime. A total of 160 curved root canals (angle>30°, radius<6 mm) were allo-cated randomly to 4 groups: A/B for expert operators and C/D for nonexpertoperators. A/C were shaped with rotary and B/D with reciprocating instru-ments. Preparation time was registered and compared with Kruskal–Wallisnon-parametric test and Dunn’s post hoc test. Instrument separation was alsoregistered and compared with chi-square test. A fractographic analysis was per-formed with scanning electron microscopy. The use of reciprocation motionsallowed nonexpert operators to avoid instrument breakage during glide pathand to prepare root canals faster. Experts were equally effective in rotary/re-ciprocating root canal shaping and faster with rotary motions than nonexpertoperators, who also fractured significantly more rotary instruments.

- Abstract
The first part of this work reviews several mathematical programming models dedicated to resource allocation and planning problems in the context of extinguishing large forest fires. These problems have been studied as part of the research projects Lumes and Enjambre, which involve both the public and private sectors in Spain. The objective of Lumes and Enjambre is to develop advanced technologies for fighting forest fires. Moreover, the projects address other tasks such as the design of algorithms to prevent aircraft collisions and estimating the perimeters of forest fires using techniques such as estimating sets from thermal images. The second part of this work is focused on the R package and corresponding graphic interface, Wildfire Resources Management (wrm), which are designed to offer a user-friendly model interface in terms of the introduction of the necessary data, resolution, and presentation of the results, according to the needs of the interlocutors in the company dedicated to the extinction of forest fires. The auxiliary package uses various solvers, such as symphony and gurobi. This work presents the various components of wrm (which can be viewed in the GitHub repository), a computational study, and a procedure for its use.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of continuous apical negative ultrasonic irrigation into simulated lateral canals and the apical third in straight and curved root canals. Two simulated lateral canals were created 2, 4 and 6 mm from the working length in 120 single-rooted teeth (6 canals/tooth, n = 360 straight, n = 360 curved). The teeth were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups: positive pressure irrigation (PPI) (n = 20); passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) (n = 20); continuous apical negative ultrasonic irrigation (CANUI) (n = 20). 20% Chinese ink was added to a 5% sodium hypochlorite solution and delivered into the root canals. The results showed a significantly higher (P < 0.05) penetration of irrigant into the lateral canals and up to working length in the CANUI group for straight and curved roots. CANUI improves penetration into the lateral canals and up to the working length of the cleared teeth in straight and curved roots.

- Abstract
Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) enables rapid, automatic, and detailed 3D representation of surfaces with an easily handled scanner device. TLS, therefore, shows great potential for use in Forest Inventories (FIs). However, the lack of well-established algorithms for TLS data processing hampers operational use of the scanner for FI purposes. Here, we present FORTLS, which is an R package specifically developed to automate TLS point cloud data processing for forestry purposes. The FORTLS package enables (i) detection of trees and estimation of their diameter at breast height (dbh), (ii) estimation of some stand variables (e.g., density, basal area, mean, and dominant height), (iii) computation of metrics related to important tree attributes estimated in FIs at stand level, and (iv) optimization of plot design for combining TLS data and field measured data. FORTLS can be used with single-scan TLS data, thus, improving data acquisition and shortening the processing time as well as increasing sample size in a cost-efficient manner. The package also includes several features for correcting occlusion problems in order to produce improved estimates of stand variables. These features of the FORTLS package will enable the operational use of TLS in FIs, in combination with inference techniques derived from model-based and model-assisted approaches

This study intended to help practitioners selecting the appropriate motion according to their level of expertise for glide path and complete root canal preparation of curved canals in terms of instrument fracture and preparation time. A total of 160 curved root canals (angle >30°, radius <6 mm) were allocated randomly to 4 groups: A/B for expert operators and C/D for nonexpert operators. A/C were shaped with rotary and B/D with reciprocating instruments. Preparation time was registered and compared with Kruskal–Wallis non‐parametric test and Dunn's post hoc test. Instrument separation was also registered and compared with chi‐square test. A fractographic analysis was performed with scanning electron microscopy. The use of reciprocation motions allowed nonexpert operators to avoid instrument breakage during glide path and to prepare root canals faster. Experts were equally effective in rotary/reciprocating root canal shaping and faster with rotary motions than nonexpert operators, who also fractured significantly more rotary instruments. - Abstract

- Abstract
Postweaning is one of the most sensitive and energy-demanding phases of swine production. The objective of this research was to assess the energy, production and environmental characteristics of a conventional farm with temperature-based environmental control. The selected energy, environmental and production variables were measured on farm, in a high livestock density area of NW Spain, for seven production cycles. The quantification of variables was aimed at obtaining the maximum performance with the lowest possible use of resources, focusing on animal welfare and production efficiency. The Brown–Forsythe, Welch and Games-Howell tests revealed significant differences in terms of temperature, relative humidity and CO2 concentrations among production cycles, and among the critical, postcritical and final periods. Improved humidity management resulted in a 17% reduction of climate control energy, which involved energy savings in the range of 33% to 47% per kg produced at the end of the postweaning cycle. Accordingly, adding humidity as a control variable could result in higher ventilation rates, thereby improving animal welfare, reducing heating energy use and increasing weight gain per unit climate control energy. In addition, the strong correlations found between heating energy and relative humidity (R2 = 0.73) and ventilation energy and CO2 (R2 = 0.99) suggest that these variables could be readily estimated without additional sensor costs

- Abstract
Studies on the correlations between spatial distribution of linguistic varieties and genetic structure of populations began by dealing with geographic spaces and extensive linguistic families. In the last two decades, researchers with this type of interdisciplinary approach have also begun to study more reduced linguistic and population domains. This paper examines geolinguistic and onomastic information in a linguistic and administrative space of a limited extension of the Principality of Asturias. The information on the surnames of this region, taken from the inhabitants’ register, is used to identify surname regions and check correlations with dialect areas described in this space. The results obtained in this research show many similarities in the distribution of surname regions with dialect areas recognized by traditional dialectology studies. The conclusions of the study present the results obtained together with some of the explanatory proposals on the historical constitution of the linguistic diversity of this area

- Abstract
Immigrant women who are forced to adapt to a new cultural context often live in low income situations, have informal jobs, and experience social inclusion difficulties; these women frequently have mental health and social relationship problems. We conducted an experimental investigation with a group of vulnerable immigrant women who were receiving support from public social services. Our goal was to analyze the effectiveness of a bio-psychosocial therapy system with text messages to personal mobile phones. We grouped women by different degrees of depression. We studied psychosocial characteristics from personalized interviews and developed message banks to advise healthy habits and accompany moods. We programmed a remote delivery system, and for 26 days, each woman (n = 44) received four of our messages. We analyzed changes in mood and depression at the beginning and at the end of therapy and observed positive changes. The analysis of the initial and final (Personal Health Questionnaire) PHQ−9 quartile intervals shows that text messages significantly improve the mood and depression symptoms of immigrant women when the initial PHQ−9 value is greater than 5 (moderate depression)

- Abstract
Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) with LiDAR devices has emerged as a new technique of high potential value for implementation in forest inventories (FI). In this study we developed an algorithm to produce stand basal area metrics (G). The research was performed in 40 plots established in mature Pinus sylvestris stands covering the area of distribution and range of site qualities for this species in Spain. The proposed algorithm was obtained in four main steps: (1) normalization of point clouds obtained by TLS; (2) identification of individual trees; (3) reduction of the point cloud density; and (4) determination of Gmetrics. The G estimated in plots of 7 m of radius yielded the best results, with a Pearson correlation coefficient value of 0.86. This enabled us to produce a linear regression model with values of 0.75 for R2adj and 10.66 m2 for RMSE across all plots. Examination of the linear regression model by site yielded higher values of R2adj and RMSE, of respectively 0.82 and 8.57 m2. Although the results indicate that TLS is a good tool forestimating G in mature P. sylvestris stands, further research covering all stages of development is required for comparison of G values estimated in stands with different structures., El láser escáner terrestre (TLS) ha surgido como un nuevo dispositivo de tecnología LiDAR con un gran potencial para ser implementado en inventarios forestales (IIFF).

- Abstract
- Abstract
Although the organic sector is still relatively small, the demand for organic food is increasing throughout the world. The characterization of consumers' perception of and attitudes towards organic food is important to enable the development of marketing policies aimed at attracting conventional consumers to the sector. Consumers' behaviour studies must be conducted specifically for different regions and countries as perceptions and attitudes vary across the world. In the present study, a questionnaire was designed for administration to consumers in Galicia (Northern Spain). The questionnaire was administered to 830 consumers in 200 establishments to obtain data about the consumers' perception of and attitudes towards organic food. The survey results showed that one-third of responders consume organic food and that the typical profile of a consumer of organic food is a middle-aged, medium-high class, university-educated female living in a large village, who shops in supermarkets and preferably consume vegetables, fruits and eggs. Most people who declared that they consume organic products confuse these with home and locally produced food, indicating the potential for growth of the organic sector by providing such consumers with appropriate information. Most consumers (including conventional consumers) have a good opinion of organic food and consider that it is better for health, is of better quality than conventional food and avoid pesticide residues. However, price continues to be a barrier to the consumption of organic produce. Most respondents stated that they would consume more organic food if the price was only between 10% and 30% higher than the conventional equivalent. Finally, organic consumers in Galicia showed positive attitudes towards using local breeds in organic agriculture, both for producing food and for ecotourism and educational activities. Such activities could contribute to conserving breed biodiversity and adding value to organic farming.

- Abstract
This study examines the sibilant fricatives produced by seventeen Galician and twenty-two Portuguese speakers. Galician and Portuguese are closely related languages that present important continuities, although it is in their phonological and phonetic systems that they diverge most obviously. By means of the analysis of spectra and spectral moments, chiefly the spectral mean, postalveolar sibilants and front (alveolar or alveolo-dental) sibilants are differentiated in both Galician and Portuguese. Much variation has been found in front sibilant realizations among speakers and even between different realizations by the same speaker. This variation is especially striking among male Galician speakers, where it was possible to distinguish three different articulations, identified here as an apico-aveolar [s̺], a lamino-alveolar [s], and a lamino-dental [s̪] sibilant. The research results point to a loss of phonetic diversity on the Portuguese side of the political border, while in Galicia it is better preserved, although it is losing ground
