Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is a medicinal species used in several areas, such as food, medicines and cosmetics, and the understanding of its physiological behavior under environmental conditions is of paramount importance for the improvement of cultivation methods. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different water availability under physiological, biochemical and metabolic characteristics, in three distinct genotypes: 'Alfavaca basilicão', 'Gennaro de menta' and 'Grecco à palla', during two different phenological stages (vegetative and reproductive). It was found that the water deficit promotes physiological changes to tolerate water stress, and the studied genotypes have different routes to achieve this physiological tolerance, which culminates in a distinct accumulation of metabolites in plants, and can be considered interesting if the final product is the production of essential oils.

Studies have revealed the antioxidant and antifungal activities of the metabolite tyrosol, a phenolic compound from olive oil and several endophytic fungi. The substance was isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. and was described as a natural product (NP) with a potential biostimulant effect in soybean seed treatment. In this study, the application of an oil-based solution of tyrosol (10 mg/L) to soybean seeds showed no significant difference from soybean seeds without tyrosol in terms of germination percentage, number of nodules, number of seeds per plant, and number of pods per plant. Metabolomic analysis of the soybean leaves using GC–MS showed differences in the chemical composition between the treatments, with significant differences in the abundance of 11 metabolites. Among them, aspartic acid, which is a precursor to several essential amino acids, presented a positive effect under tyrosol application, and the analysis of the metabolic routes (MetaboAnalyst 4.0) indicated a significant improvement in the nitrogen metabolism pathway. The substances related to nitrogen translocation also behaved differently with the tyrosol treatment of seeds, with a negative effect on the concentrations of allantoin and urea, but a positive effect on aspartate. These results show that tyrosol changes soybean plant metabolism without significant effects on crop yield.

Auxins are a class of organic substances known as plant-growth regulators, which act on plant physiology, promoting its full development. However, due to the great instability of these substances among the diversity of crops and cultivation environments, it is necessary to seek more efficient modes of application, which lead to a homogeneous distribution and promote a sustained release according to the plants demand. Seed coating, using films containing a biodegradable polymer and auxins intercalated into layered compounds, emerges as a very promising approach to a new form of growth regulator application. Thus, the presented work had three aims: (i) the synthesis and characterization of an organic–inorganic hybrid material containing a layered double hydroxide (LDH) of zinc and aluminum and the synthetic auxin 1-naphthalenoacetic acid (ZnAl-NAA-LDH), (ii) the coating of bean seeds (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) with composite films produced from mixtures of alginate polymer and ZnAl-NAA-LDH, and (iii) the evaluation of the plant response by bioassays. The hybrid ZnAl-NAA-LDH was characterized by a set of analytical techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis coupled to differential scanning calorimetry and mass spectrometry, specific surface area measurement, and scanning electron microscopy. Bioassays were performed with the seeds coated with the composite film to assess the germination rate and germination speed index of the seeds, as well as biometric analyses including measurements of root area, root fresh matter, and shoot length of the plants. The bioassay performed in soil pots showed that the alginate film containing ZnAl-NAA-LDH yields an enhancement regarding root area, fresh root matter and shoot length of plants. Thus, films produced from a mixture of alginate and the hybrid material containing the growth regulator intercalated into LDH can be a viable alternative to enhance plant development, which can be included in seed management.

Summary The nematicidal activity of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratus and its main components were studied. During in vitro assays with Meloidogyne incognita second-stage juveniles (J2), the oil showed an LC50 of 166 μg ml−1. In vivo assays that exposed J2 to the LC50 oil concentration significantly reduced galls and eggs on tomato roots. According to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses, the main components of the essential oil were geranial (42.7%) and neral (33.0%). The combination of these two isomers, known as citral, had an enhanced nematicidal activity at low concentrations as shown by in vitro tests through a synergistic interaction with undecan-2-one. In assays with tomato plants inoculated with M. incognita J2, the combination of citral (600 μg ml−1) and undecan-2-one (300 μg ml−1) showed a high reduction in the number of galls (63.4%) and eggs (56.3%) in relation to Tween 80® control. The citral/undecan-2-one combination showed a synergistic nematicidal activity against M. incognita during in vitro and in vivo assays.

Pyrophen, a natural product, is a pyrone derivative from L-phenylalanine and isolated from different Aspergillus species. This compound exhibits promising anticancer activity, and various studies on its synthesis and biological activity have been reported. Thus, this study aimed to understand the substrate-related factors that influence the production of pyrophen and fungal biomass. So, the endophytic fungus Aspergillus niger, isolated from the plant species Hancornia speciosa (commonly known as mangabeira), was cultivated in different culture media (PDB, CZAPEK, and mangaba juice), ethyl acetate extracts were obtained for these different culture media. A high-performance liquid chromatography method was developed with a PDA detector to quantify pyrophen in these different extracts. This method evaluated the effect of other varying culture media and fungal growth times on the yield of this substance. The highest yield was obtained with the mangaba juice, thus revealing that this medium was better for cultivation. Finally, evaluation of the effect of cultivation time in PDB (Potato Dextrose Broth) medium reveals that the ideal fermentation period to produce pyrophen.

Summary There is a demand for novel products for the control of plant-parasitic nematodes, so we characterised the effectiveness of some plant essential oils against Meloidogyne incognita and verified the efficiency of the major component from the most toxic oils and their analogues using in vitro and in vivo assays. In this study, the essential oils from Piptadenia viridiflora, Hyptis suaveolens and Astronium graveolens against M. incognita were evaluated, but only P. viridiflora oil showed toxicity toward M. incognita. Benzaldehyde was its main component according to GC-MS analysis. In in vitro assays, benzaldehyde (100 and 200 μg ml−1) and its oxime (400 μg ml−1) caused a higher rate of M. incognita second-stage juvenile (J2) mortality than the nematicide carbofuran (170 μg ml−1). Reductions of more than 90% in the number of galls and eggs, even greater than that observed with carbofuran, were observed in the assay where the J2 were placed in solutions of benzaldehyde and its oxime 48 h prior to tomato plant inoculation. Application of benzaldehyde together with M. incognita J2 to the substrate resulted only in a reduction in the number of eggs (42-65%); however, its oxime reduced both the number of galls (43-84%) and eggs (23-89%). Therefore, the P. viridiflora oil, its major component benzaldehyde, and the analogue benzaldehyde oxime are toxic to M. incognita. In two different in vivo assays, benzaldehyde oxime was confirmed as toxic to M. incognita with a greater efficacy than benzaldehyde.

The oxidation of reserves and the potential restriction of hormones in the vegetative propagules of sugarcane can impair the adequate initial development of plants in the field, with subsequent restriction to production. The objective of this study was verified the use of tyrosol, as an exogenous antioxidant, associated, or not, with the biostimulant tryptophol on initial sugar cane growth and metabolism. Mini-stalks of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) cv. RB86-7515, containing only one bud, were treated with: T1—water (control); T2—36.15 µmol tyrosol; T3—72.37 µmol tyrosol; T4—2 µmol tryptophol+36.15 µmol tyrosol; and T5—2 µmol tryptophol+72.37 µmol tyrosol. Then, the mini-stalks were grown under two substrates: under sand in plastic trays and in soil packed in plastic pots. The initial plant growth, °Brix and antioxidant metabolism evaluations of the mini-stalks were performed. Treatments T3 and T5 proved to be efficient in increasing sprouting rate and initial shoot growth; however, the same treatments were harmful to root growth. Furthermore, T4 treatment reduced the catalase activity and improve the total soluble protein content, indicating better modulation in hydrogen peroxide content in sugarcane tissues, concluding that tyrosol and tryptophol have potential for use in the sugarcane crop, by stimulating and protecting mini-stalks under initial development.

Antioxidant compounds have the ability to scavenge the reactive oxygen species in an attempt to minimise damage in seeds during the germination. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological and metabolic process of two well-established antioxidant compounds: kojic acid and hydroxyphenyl ethanol (tyrosol), at increasing concentrations, on wheat seeds. The use of different concentrations of tyrosol or kojic acid not showed any interference on seed germination rate. However, we observed isolated effect of antioxidants and their concentrations to: germination speed index, shoot length and electrolyte leakage; and significant interaction between the factors to: seedling total length, seedling fresh matter and α-amylase activity. Our results suggest that the use of antioxidant molecules can be applied on seed treatments for protection against damage oxidative stress and improve seed metabolism.

Three new isoaigialones, A, B, and C (1–3), along with aigialone (4), were isolated from the crude EtOAc extract of a Phaeoacremonium sp., an endophytic fungus obtained from the leaves of Senna spectabilis. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on the analysis of spectroscopic data. Compounds 2 and 4 were active against the phytopathogenic fungi Cladosporium cladosporioides and C. sphaerospermum. This is the first report of metabolites produced by an Phaeoacremonium sp., associated with S. spectabilis.

Among the main problems faced by soybean producers is the nematode Meloidogyne incognita. Because nematicides that are more efficient and less toxic to humans and the environment than those available are desirable to control this pathogen, this work aimed at studying the essential oil of Cinnamomum cassia, which has been described as active in vitro against the nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. At the concentration of 62 µg mL−1, it performed better than the nematicide carbofuran at 173 µg mL−1 in an in vitro assay with M. incognita eggs and second-stage juveniles. The main components of this oil were identified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis and submitted to in vitro assays with the nematode, which showed (E)-cinnamaldehyde (83.3% of the oil) as responsible for the nematicidal activity. Emulsions of the oil (500 µg mL−1) and this aldehyde (416 µg mL−1) reduced the numbers of M. incognita galls and eggs in soybean plants to values statistically equal to those obtained with carbofuran (415 µg mL−1). Vapors of the essential oil and (E)-cinnamaldehyde were also as active as the fumigant nematicide Basamid against M. incognita according to an in vitro assay. Cultivation of soybean plants in substrate inoculated with M. incognita eggs and treated with Basamid at 0.25 g (L of substrate)−1 or (E)-cinnamaldehyde at 1.0 mL (L of substrate)−1 caused a reduction in the nematode population to values statistically equal to each other. These results make (E)-cinnamaldehyde very promising for the development of new products to control M. incognita in soybean fields.

Higher levels of reactive species of oxygen are harmful to plant tissues. This study evaluated the action of different doses of thymol on soybean seed germination, biometric analysis and enzymatic parameters; both involved in germination process. High doses of thymol affected the plantlet growth, but not hampered the germination.

With the increasing global demand for food, fuel and fibre, the use of plant growth regulators in agriculture has become an agricultural practice aimed to improve physiological and productive responses. Our work aimed to evaluate the effect of tryptophol (Tol), a precursor of auxin, on common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The experiment was conducted in pots under greenhouse conditions, where we evaluated the Tol effect on bean crop under two different application forms: TSoil – soil application of Tol (4.10−4 mg L−1) and TLeaf – leaf tryptophol application (4.10−4 mg L−1), plus a reference treatment (0 mg L−1 of Tol). We analysed the variables: shoot fresh and dry matter; root dry matter, area and volume; leaf macro and micronutrients; CO2 net assimilation rate (A); stomatal conductance (gS); internal CO2 concentration (CI); foliar transpiration (E); photosynthetic pigment content and some crop production attributes. The application of Tol through the foliar pathway proved to be more advantageous because it improved the shoot fresh and dry matter, increased the root volume and area, favoured less foliar transpiration and improved the length of pods, while the application of Tol in soil induced higher nitrogen accumulation in leaves. Our observations allow the characterization of Tol as a bioactive metabolite, suggesting an important potential for use in agricultural systems.

The dihydroisocoumarin (3R,4R)-3,4-dihydro-4,6-dihydroxy-3-methyl-1-oxo-1H-isochromene-5-carboxylic acid (1) was isolated from Xylaria sp., a fungus associated with Piper aduncum (Piperaceae). Additionally, two known compounds, (R)-7-hydroxymellein (2) and (3R,4R)-4,7-dihydroxymellein (3), were isolated from Penicillium sp. associated to Alibertia macrophylla (Rubiaceae). The structures of all compounds were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data. The dihydrocoumarin derivatives 1–3 showed antifungal and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities in vitro.

Two new presilphiperfolane sesquiterpenes, 1 and 2, were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Xylaria sp., obtained from the leaves of Piper aduncum, along with two known eremophilane sesquiterpenes, phaseolinone (3) and phomenone (4). Chemical structures of 1 and 2 were established by analysis of spectroscopic data. The four compounds were tested in vitro for antifungal and cytotoxicity activities using CHO (Chinese hamster ovary). Compounds 1 and 2 did not show any antifungal and cytotoxic activity. Compounds 3 and 4 displayed moderate cytotoxic activities, as well as 4 antifungal activity.

a ), Letcia Veras Costa-Lotufo c ), Claudia do OPessoa c An EtOH extract of the leaves of Casearia sylvestris afforded new clerodane diterpene, casearin X, together with the known compounds casearins B, D, L, and O, and caseargrewiin F. Casearin X degraded to the corresponding dialdehyde when stored in CDCl3. The diterpenes isolated were cytotoxic to human cancer cell lines, with caseargrewiin F being the most active and the new clerodane, casearin X, the second active compound with IC50 values comparable to the positive control doxorubicin. All isolated diterpenes showed lower activities against normal human cells than against cancer cell lines, which might indicate a possible selective action on cancer cells. Casearin X dialdehyde was not cytotoxic to cancer cells indicating that the occurrence of these CO groups at C(18) and C(19) is incompatible with the cytotoxic activity.

Phyllanthus niruri L., commonly known in Brazil as 'quebra-pedra', has long been used in the treatment of diverse diseases and especially urolithiasis. The therapeutic effects of P. niruri are attributed to various compounds present in the plant, including the hydrolysable tannin corilagin. In the present study, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-/PAD) profiles of leaves and commercial extracts of P. niruri were examined and three compounds, found to be present in all of the samples studied, were isolated by open column chromatography over C18)silica gel followed by preparative HPLC. These compounds were identified by nuclear magnetic resonance as corilagin, rutin and ethyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate. Corilagin, which has been proposed as a phytochemical marker for P. niruri, was employed as an external standard in the development and validation of a rapid and efficient qualitative and quantitative HPLC assay for the analyte. The method may be applied in the standardization of herbs and phytomedicines commercialized in Brazil as quebra-pedra.

The rhizobacterium Paenibacillus macerans was grown in tryptic soy broth and after separating the cells by centrifugation the activity of fractions of the supernatant was tested against Meloidogyne exigua juveniles. From HPLC analyses and spectral data, the most active fractions were found to contain alanine, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, threonine and valine, which were probably produced by bacterial hydrolysis of proteic nutrients. Amino acids from commercial sources were then assayed to confirm these results and to evaluate their potential for the control of nematodes. LC50 of 26 and 283 μg ml−1 were shown for the nematicide aldicarb and L-cysteine respectively when tested on M. exigua juveniles. At a concentration 38.4 times>LC50, the amino acid diminished the nematode population on coffee plants to values statistically equal to those obtained with aldicarb at a concentration 19.2 times>LC50.

As concentrações inibitórias mínimas (CIM) do derivado do ácido cafeico contra Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus e o fungo Aspergillus ochraceus foram 250, 1000, 1000 e > 568µg/mL, respectivamente. Contra os mesmos organismos, os valores de CIM para a rutina foram 1000, > 1000, > 1000 e 35µg/mL, respectivamente. A rutina mostrou-se muito promissora para o controle de A. ochraceus, pois seu valor de CIM contra tal fungo foi bem próximo ao observado para o cloreto de benzalcônio, que é empregado como fungicida no Brasil. To find out natural antimicrobial agents as alternative in therapeutics and to preserve food, the methanol extract of Solanum palinacanthum aerial parts was submitted to purification steps guided by antibacterial and antifungal assays. As a consequence, the flavonoid rutin and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid were isolated by column chromatographyand high performance liquid chromatography, and identified by mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the quinic acid derivative against Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and the fungus Aspergillus ochraceus were 250, 1000, 1000 and > 568µg/mL, respectively. Against the same microorganisms, MIC for rutin were 1000, > 1000, > 1000 and 35µg/mL, respectively. Rutinwas very promising for A. ochraceus control, since its MIC against such fungus was close to the one observed for benzalkonium chloride, which is used as a fungicide in Brazil. Após partições com solventes e vários processos cromatográficos, isolou-se o [β-3,4-diidroxifenil)etil]-(3'-O-α-L-ramnopiranosil)-(4'- O-cafeoil)-β-D-glicopiranosídeo, que é conhecido como acteosídeo. A concentração inibitória mínima e a concentração bactericida mínima desta substância para A. hydrophila, B. subtilis, P. aeruginosa e S. aureus foram de 0,12, 1,00, 1,00 e 0,25 mg/mL, respectivamente. Since the methanol extract of Lantana lilacina leaves collected in the city of Lavras (MG, Brazil) showed antibacterial properties in a preliminary study, a fractionation process guided by agar diffusion assays with Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus was carried out to purify and identify the active compounds. After solvent partition and several chromatographic steps, [ß-3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-ethyl]-(3'-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-(4'- O-cafeoyl)-β-D-glycopyranoside, known as acteoside, was isolated. The minimal inhibition concentration and the minimal bactericidal concentration of such substance against A. hydrophila, B. subtilis, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus were 0.12, 1.00, 1.00 and 0.25 mg/mL, respectively. The article investigates complex impulsive systems in which the so-called controlling systems jumps effect emerges. In particular, this research includes the correctness of the solution to the impulsive control system and approximation lemmas. A 3D model example is provided which illustrates the relevance of the considered approach to the study of complex impulsive systems.

The isolates were screened and evaluated for their antifungal, anticancer and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities. All of the extracts exhibited potent activity against two evaluated phytopathogenic fungi. Chemical investigation of EtOAc extracts of the endophytic fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides resulted in the isolation of one new compound, 2-phenylethyl 1H-indol-3-yl-acetate (1), and seven known compounds: uracil (2), cyclo-(S*-Pro-S*-Tyr) (3), cyclo-(S*-Pro-S*-Val) (4), 2(2-aminophenyl)acetic acid (5), 2(4-hydroxyphenyl) acetic acid (6), 4-hydroxy-benzamide (7) and 2(2-hydroxyphenyl) acetic acid (8). All of the compound structures were elucidated using 1D and 2D NMR and MS analyses. The antifungal and AChE inhibitory activities of compounds 1-8 were evaluated in vitro. Compound 1 exhibited promising activity against Cladosporium cladosporioides and C. sphaerospermum that was comparable to that of the positive control nystatin. We consider an impulsive control problem with state constraints which arises as result of extension of the classic theory. Filippov's type existence theorem is proved.

Xylarenones C−E (2−4), three new eremophilane sesquiterpenes, have been isolated from solid substrate cultures of a Camarops-like endophytic fungus isolated from Alibertia macrophylla. The structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data. Compounds were evaluated in subtilisin and pepsin protease assays, and compound 2 showed potent inhibitory activity against both proteases.

Previous phytochemical studies on this species described the occurrence of the flavonoids mearnsitrin and myricitrin. In the present study, the chromatographic profiles of M. uniflora leaves and commercial extracts were determined using HPLC-PAD. Myricitrin was used as an external standard in the development and validation of the HPLC method. The proposed method is simple, rapid and reliable and can be successfully applied in industry for standardization of herbs and phytomedicines commercialised in Brazil as pedra-hume-caá. Lippia gracilis Schauer is an aromatic plant widely found in Northeastern Brazil. The leaf infusions or decoctions and alcoholic macerate are used for some inflammatory diseases and headache. This paper reports the isolation of naringenin by semi-preparative liquid chromatography from the methanolic extract of L. gracilis (ELg) and the evaluation of the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of this extract by measuring nociception through acetic acid, formalin, and hot-plate tests in carrageenan-induced inflammation in mice. Following oral administration, ELg (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) significantly reduced the number of writhes in the writhing test and the time of paw licks in both phases of the formalin test when compared to the control group animals. Mice treated with ELg did not exhibit any behavioral alteration during the hot plate and rota-rod tests, suggesting non-participation of the supraspinal components in the modulation of pain by ELg and no motor abnormality. The oral administration of 400 mg/kg of ELg produced an anti-inflammatory effect on peritonitis induced by carrageenan. These effects can be associated with a decrease of inflammatory mediator synthesis by compounds of ELg, such as naringenin, which has anti-inflammatory action as already described.

The acetonitrile fraction obtained in corn from a culture of Penicillium sp.1 afforded orcinol (1). on the other hand, Penicillium sp.1 cultivated in potato-dextrose-broth furnished two different compounds, cyclo-(L-Pro-L-Val) (2) and uracil (3). The chromatographic fractionation of the acetonitrile fraction obtained from Penicillium sp.2 led to three dihydroisocoumarins, 4-hydroxymellein (4), 8-methoxymellein (5) and 5-hydroxymellein (6). Compounds 5 and 6 were obtained from the Penicillium genus for the first time. Additionally, metabolites 1-6 were evaluated for their antifungal and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities. The most active compounds 1. and 4 exhibited detection limits of 5.00 and 10.0 mu g against Cladosporium. cladosporioides and C. sphaerospermum, respectively. Extração ácido-base de uma nova porção do extrato bruto etanólico permitiu a identificação do alcalóide liriodenina. O alcalóide liriodenina e a lignana siringaresinol apresentaram atividade antifúngica moderada. The fractionation of the dichlorometanic layer of dried stems of Michelia champaca afforded four substances: sinapyl 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside alcohol, sinapyl 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside aldehyde, syringaresinol and N-acetylnonaine. Part of the crude extract portion was submitted to acid-basic extraction allowed the identification of the alkaloid liriodenine. The two phenylpropanoids derivatives and the alkaloid N-acetylnonaine were been reported for the first time from Michelia genus. The alkaloid liriodenine and the lignan syringaresinol showed moderate antifungal activity. 6,8-Dimethoxy-3-(2'-oxo-propyl)-coumarin (1) and 2,4-dihydroxy-6-[(1'E,3'E)-penta-1',3'-dienyl]-benzaldehyde (2), in addition to the known compound periconicin B (3), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Periconia atropurpurea, an endophytic fungus obtained from the leaves of Xylopia aromatica, a native plant of the Brazilian Cerrado. Their chemical structures were assigned based on analyses of MS, 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopic experiments. Biological analyses were performed using two mammalian cell lines, human cervix carcinoma (HeLa) and Chinese hamster ovary (CHO). The results showed that compound 1 had no effect when compared to the control group, which was treated with the vehicle (DMSO). Compound 2 was able to induce a slight increase in cell proliferation of HeLa (37% of increase) and CHO (38% of increase) cell lines. Analysis of compound 3 showed that it has potent cytotoxic activity against both cell lines, with an IC50 of 8.0 microM. Biological analyses using the phytopathogenic fungi Cladosporium sphaerospermum and C. cladosporioides revealed that also 2 showed potent antifungal activity compared to nystatin.

Five cadinane sesquiterpenes derivatives were isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation from Phomopis cassiae, an endophytic fungus isolated from Cassia spectabilis. The structures of the two diastereoisomeric 3,9,12-trihydroxycalamenenes (1, 2); 3,12-dihydroxycalamenene (3); 3,12-dihydroxycadalene (4) and 3,11,12-trihydroxycadalene (5) were established on the basis of analyses of 1D and 2D NMR and HRTOFMS experiments. Antifungal activity of the isolates was evaluated against Cladosporium sphaerospermum and Cladosporium cladosporioides, revealing 5 as the most active compound.

In the bioautography assay against Cladosporium cladosporioides and Cladosporium sphaerospermum, compounds 1 and 2 were found to be active while compounds 3, 4 and 5 did not show antifungal activity.
