This essay explores Proust's use of Vinteuil as a way to consider the relationship between artistic genius and perceived eccentricity. Vinteuil is presented both a ‘foolish old man’ and a composer of genius, thus staging a tension between the contingent and absolute nature of art. Proust's metaphorical use of music becomes a model for the creative process, where the ‘confused music’ of inspiration must be translated into coherent expression. Yet, Proust's treatment of Vinteuil and his musical analogies point to the mysteries and disturbances inherent in art. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the ways in which interdisciplinary small groups were used in a school setting in order to drive students' joyful engagement and literacy instruction. Drawing from the work of Dr. Gholdy Muhammad in Cultivating Genius (2020) and Unearthing Joy (2023) we designed and implemented a summer program built around bolstering foundational literacy skills, with an intentional focus on helping students experience joy and making each and every child feel special. In keeping true to the work of Dr. Muhammad, we designed learning opportunities to develop students' intellect, skills, and criticality, and grounded those competencies in their identity. The program design--including structured small groups, texts chosen to empower and resonate with our specific population of students, multiple opportunities to connect with the same texts--fostered an experience in which students were immersed in literacy in an authentic and meaningful way. Throughout this article we discuss how we implemented this work with rising first through third graders in a collaborative effort with the Netter Center and Penn GSE and share teacher feedback as well as student data. Mendelian randomization (MR) addresses causal questions using genetic variants as instrumental variables. We propose a new MR method, G-Estimation under No Interaction with Unmeasured Selection (GENIUS)-MAny Weak Invalid IV, which simultaneously addresses the 2 salient challenges in MR: many weak instruments and widespread horizontal pleiotropy. Similar to MR-GENIUS, we use heteroscedasticity of the exposure to identify the treatment effect. We derive influence functions of the treatment effect, and then we construct a continuous updating estimator and establish its asymptotic properties under a many weak invalid instruments asymptotic regime by developing novel semiparametric theory. We also provide a measure of weak identification, an overidentification test, and a graphical diagnostic tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENIUS , *MELANCHOLY , *GIFTED persons , *SATURN (Planet) , *CONTEMPLATION , *ASTROLOGY , *ROMANTICISM - Abstract
Tanburi Cemil Bey is considered one of the greatest geniuses who grew up in the classical Turkish music tradition. However, his place in the history of national culture cannot be understood only through his actions and works in the musical field. To accurately determine his position, the conceptual apparatus of a comparative and multidimensional perspective is needed. For this reason, this study discusses the concept of genius attributed to Cemil Bey and investigates the possibilities of evaluating him as a form of historical subjectivity through the structure-agency tension in sociology. While doing this, the concept of melancholy, which has accompanied genius since ancient times, is also included in the analysis. These concepts have a deeprooted unity that frames the medical, epistemological and philosophical norms of the Western tradition of thought. The closeness between these two concepts, which were mainly established on a medical and philosophical level in ancient Greek thought, is discussed in a wide range of symbols within the framework of the Saturn myth in Renaissance cosmology. By revising the ancient belief that the planets have a certain influence on the character and moral qualities of people, the personification of the melancholic genius is added to the myth of Saturn in the astrological context of Renaissance cosmology. Thus, it paves the way for the maturation of a separate poetic experience of melancholy that focuses on the existential dimension of melancholy as well as its physical symptoms. Romanticism intensifies the perception of melancholy as a sign of selfreflexivity that allows contemplation on the deepest aspects of existence and often symbolizes creative genius. It creates a context in which Cemil Bey can be read, like C. Baudelaire and W. Benjamin, who see themselves as residents of this unique field of subjectivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cultural heritage gives places meaning and an atmosphere called genius loci based on tangible and intangible values. Nowadays, we can observe a commercial and consumerist approach to the spirit of place: it is used as a promotional tool and a tourism product, reduced to a cliché satisfying popular consumers tastes. The aim of this study is to identify the values which determine the identity of a place and the dangers they face, trying to answer the question: how can genius loci be protected? We analyse the problem based on the example of selected open-air museums at defensive castles in Poland's Jurassic Belt. These museums have become a field of commercial entertainment and fallen victim to irreversible transformations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Throughout his academic and pontifical teachings, Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II’s reference to the three transcendentals –the verum, the bonum, and the pulchrum– has been constant. This article exposes the thought of Pope Wojtyla regarding beauty from a triple perspective: first, beauty as splendor, both of the glory of God and of truth and goodness. Second, beauty as a gift or participation, manifested in the case of creative genius and human love. Finally, and as a synthesis of the previous two, beauty as a way to delve into the mystery of man, the world and God (the via pulchritudinis). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reveals some secrets hidden behind this ancestral hydro-agricultural development which has been operating for more than 30 centuries. During the period 1992-2024, several missions were carried out in the foggaras oases. Investigations and surveys were carried out among the owners of the foggaras and the Ksourian population. The results obtained show that the know-how acquired on foggaras is immense. For the first time, new notions about foggaras have been introduced into the technical bibliography. This is how in Algeria, there are two types of foggaras: volumetric and hourly. Part 2 of this article highlighted the diversity of the foggara. Eight (8) models of foggaras have been highlighted in the Algerian Sahara. These are the Tademaït foggara, the Erg foggara, the garden foggara, the wadi foggara, the Ouakda foggara, the Kenadsa foggara, the Ain foggara and the Mzab foggara. An acquisition of significant know-how has given rise to a diversity of foggaras, thus justifying the originality of the Algerian foggara. A proof which demonstrates the greatness of the Know-how and the oasis genius. So, should we let a heritage of this magnitude die out in the short term? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Chinese academia's old friend, the world's leading scholar of avant-garde poetry, Marjorie Perloff died on March 24. Perloff was celebrated for her ability to explain difficult experimental poetry. This ability is seen in her early work on Yeats, middle works on 20
th -century modernist movements as well as in her last books, 21st -Century Modernism: (2002), Unoriginal Genius (2010) and Infrathin (2021), comparing the new century's experimental poetry with early modernism. This paper, focused on the books of her later years, demonstrates her responses to the 21st -Century modernism and foregrounding the ideas and legacy in poetics of her later years, and reveals one of her major ideas that modernism is back in the forms of Eliot's verbivocalvisual complex and Duchamp's ready-mades, delays in glass, and the infrathin. PASSWORD software ,COMPUTER passwords ,GENIUS ,USB technology ,IPHONE (Smartphone) - Abstract
USB 4 drives and enclosures are expected to provide higher speeds than Thunderbolt 3 for SSDs, leading to a larger market and lower prices. However, newer USB 4 models do not fall back to Thunderbolt and instead default to USB 3.1 Gen 2 for Intel Macs. Deduplicating files on APFS volumes may not be worth the effort as many duplicates are actually clone files that do not take up additional space. It is recommended to keep Lithium-ion batteries, such as those in iPhones, between 20-80% charge for optimal battery life. Microsoft Word and Excel do not allow the use of password managers, so passwords for these documents must be entered manually. If Pages and Numbers do not work after updating to Sonoma 14.4, uninstalling and reinstalling the apps may resolve the issue. If an Intel Mac cannot start up in Recovery and displays a folder with a question mark, disconnecting peripherals and trying again may help. MacBook Pro keyboards can be set to offer accented characters instead of repeating the letter by adjusting settings in TinkerTool or Terminal. Some users reported being asked to create a new FileVault Recovery Key after updating to Sonoma 14.4 or 14.4.1, and it is important to validate any new keys received. [Extracted from the article]

This article explores the concept of "Greek genius" from various perspectives and its connection to economic success, education, and cultural stereotypes. The essays argue that the Greek genius is rooted in the resourcefulness of characters like Odysseus and Sinon, and that shipping and commerce played a crucial role in spreading Enlightenment ideas and fostering political emancipation in Greece. The volume also examines how other cultures perceived the Greek genius, with some focusing on negative stereotypes of Greeks as cunning and deceitful. The article discusses the evolution of the Greek genius concept over time and its impact on Greek national identity. The text also delves into the discourse surrounding Greek genius in late nineteenth-century public discussions and its prevalence in the interwar period. It concludes by discussing the instrumentalization of the Greek genius during the recent Greek economic crisis. The collection highlights the consistency of the core traits associated with Greek genius while also showing the varying interpretations of it. [Extracted from the article]

Ray Perman's book, "James Hutton: The Genius of Time," explores the life and work of James Hutton, the pioneer of the concept of "deep time" and the father of modern geology. The biography aims to shed light on Hutton's significance and place him among the polymaths of the Scottish Enlightenment. However, the book falls short in fully justifying Hutton's title as the "genius of time" and fails to provide a clear understanding of his theory and its weaknesses. Additionally, the book does not adequately address Hutton's religious beliefs and their impact on his views. Despite these shortcomings, the book serves as a useful roadmap to Hutton's theory and provides insights into his life and intellectual milieu. [Extracted from the article]

The identification of early-stage colorectal cancers (CRC) and the resection of pre-cancerous neoplastic lesions through colonoscopy allows to decrease both CRC incidence and mortality. However, colonoscopy miss rates up to 26% for adenomas and 9% for advanced adenomas have been reported. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) systems have been emerging as easy-to-use tools, potentially lowering the risk of missing lesions. This review paper focuses on GI Genius device (Medtronic Co. Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.) a computer-assisted tool designed to assist endoscopists during standard white-light colonoscopies in detecting mucosal lesions. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggest that GI Genius is a safe and effective tool for improving adenoma detection, especially in CRC screening and surveillance colonoscopies. However, its impact seems to be less significant among experienced endoscopists and in real-world clinical scenarios compared to the controlled conditions of RCTs. Furthermore, it appears that GI Genius mainly enhances the detection of non-advanced, small polyps, but does not significantly impact the identification of advanced and difficult-to-detect adenoma. When using GI Genius, no complications were documented. Only a small number of studies reported an increased in withdrawal time or the removal of non-neoplastic lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to show how Vincent van Gogh developed a theological reflection that is mainly present in his paintings with religious motifs. This reflection is the fruit of his religious experience, which combines his spirituality with a social commitment to the miners in Borinage, Belgium, which can be seen as an option for the poor avant la lettre in the 19th century. This experience, far from strengthening his institutional relationship, rather provoked a critical attitude towards the theological discourse of the ecclesial context in which he lived and led the aspiring pastor to become a genius in painting. His theological interpretation as a critical reader of the Bible can be translated into what will be called here a theological chromatology, to be identified through the intersection of letters and paintings of Vincent van Gogh. Given the influence of the Dutch painter genius on contemporary culture, the process through which his reflection on the religious and theological issue emerges can be seen as a significant element in understanding the present in post-secular societies. This article examines the life and work of Phillis Wheatley and her interlocutors to consider how African-descended people conceptualized liberty and formed an intellectual community during the American Revolution. Her poetry and epistolary exchanges, shared with a range of acquaintances in the Atlantic World, reveal an intellectual universe that she created for herself and one that drew her into the political spotlight. Leaders of the founding generation began to question the intellectual possibilities for an African girl in ways that held political implications for the future of slavery. I argue that Wheatley's life and work opens critical avenues for exploring intellectualism as an aspiration of Black life in early America, and that her world of ideas sheds light on the possibilities of Black girlhood in the late eighteenth century. The Egyptian novelist Najīb Maḥfūẓ has proved himself to be a genius author at incorporating a variety of academic and intercultural sources in his works. He uses many forms of Islam-related references, such as the Qur'anic and Prophetic ones, to convey his intended meanings. In the present study, we attempt to assess the translation of Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality in Maḥfūẓ's "Cairo Trilogy" using the criteria proposed by Larson's Model(1984). This study follows a qualitative approach to analysis, i.e., the data is not in the form of numbers but in the form of texts. This study aims to discover the tactics utilized in translating Arabic Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality into English, as well as to identify the obstacles faced by the subject translators and the reasons behind such challenges. The study concludes that irrespective of what method the translators adopt to translate Qur'anic and prophetic intertextuality, their religious and cultural background seriously influences the output of the translation process. - Abstract
The intention of achieving objectives through art seemingly conflicts with Kant's tenet that judgments of taste should be devoid of conceptual determinations. According to Kant, beautiful art must be viewed as the product of genius, a rare gift of nature that operates through the work of aesthetic ideas. This prompts inquiries into the respective roles of genius and taste in the production of beautiful art. It has been proposed that genius is a mere concept, a universal capacity, or a collaborator with taste, but these accounts are found to be deficient. Drawing upon Kant's distinction between free beauty and adherent beauty, this paper demonstrates that genius is neither sufficient nor necessary to produce beautiful art. Furthermore, this paper investigates the significance of taste in artistic production, taking into consideration the autonomy and refinement of taste over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dr. Georg Karl Felix Preiser was a German surgeon who specialized in orthopedic surgery, particularly trauma and joint diseases. He published several works, including a monograph on static joint diseases and articles on topics such as idiopathic juvenile osteoarthritis deformans coxae and tennis elbow. In 1910, Preiser described a new entity called "traumatic nutritional disorders of the short bones of the hand and foot," which he believed was caused by vascular and nutritional disorders in the bones. However, later analysis of his radiographs revealed that these cases were likely misinterpreted fractures of the scaphoid bone. Despite this misinterpretation, Preiser's work on the vascularization of carpal bones remains influential in understanding the healing of fractures and osteonecrosis. [Extracted from the article]

THIRTY Years' War, 1618-1648 , *LITERARY form , *CHURCH renewal , *GENIUS , *PAMPHLETS - Abstract
A political pamphlet entitled Calvino-praedicantium Ungarorum Genius malus (The Devil of the Hungarian Calvinist Preachers) was published in Vienna in 1620, without the author’s name being given. The 21-page work is one of the pieces of the pamphlet war of 1620 started by the also anonymously published Secretissima instructio. The Secretissima instructio, which served as the propaganda of Habsburgs against the Bohemian Revolt (1618–1620), is a travesty of the literary genre of the mirrors for princes. Its fictional narrative framework and ironic tone may have reminded Péter Alvinczi of Öt szép levél (1609) written by Péter Pázmány against him. In his conviction that the Instructio was also Pázmány’s work, Alvinczi wrote the Machiavellizatio as a response to this and repeatedly addressed the Archbishop of Esztergom on the title page of his book and in the work itself. Two responses to the Machivellizatio were written, Tamás Balásfi’s Castigatio and the anonymous Genius malus mentioned above. Alvinczi refuted only Balásfi’s pamphlet, the Genius malus remained unanswered. Looking through the opusculum, its text is reminiscent of Pázmány Péter’s earlier Latin-language treatises. The style of the work, its passionate tone, certain characteristic phrases, the special forms of address of the opponents, and the numerous neologisms remind us of Pázmány’s Peniculus papporum and its extended version, the Logi alogi. A closer reading of Genius malus also reveals further textual parallels with Pázmány’s Diatriba theologica (1605) and Vindiciae ecclesiasticae (1620), writings based on rational rather than emotional argumentation. As my research progressed, it became apparent that Pázmány’s authorship had already been suggested. Kálmán Révész, reformed bishop and church historian declared with absolute certainty that the pamphlet was the work of the Archbishop of Esztergom. However, Révész formulated this claim only incidentally, and since his article was essentially about the works of Péter Alvinczi, he did not provide any specific evidence to support Pázmány’s authorship. The present study undertakes to carry out this task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
