The growing number of the elderly and their potential use of technological products requires understanding the interaction between these users and technology to develop appropriate products that include them. Accordingly, this article focuses on studying the interaction between older people and digital games to provide strategies for digital game developers to create inclusive games for these users. Thus, usability and user experience evaluation sessions were performed to achieve these objectives, and the older generation's acceptance of technology during interaction with digital games was verified. The data collection methods were observation and the application of questionnaires, one before the tests to evaluate the profile of the public and another afterward to assess usability, experience and technology acceptance. The test was applied to 36 people aged 60 and over. The results showed that the elderly prefer mobile devices and use them more often. Despite their lack of experience with digital games, the test participants had a good experience, even with difficulties such as game time management and perception of screen elements.

Insomnia is a highly prevalent sleep disorder, but its first line of treatment (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia - CBTi) is not widely available and affordable. Digital therapy has been an alternative to these limitations and its combination with pharmacological treatment may improve patients' clinical outcomes and therapy adherence. This was a real-world evidence study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a CBTi smartphone app combined or not with sleep medication, based on a sample of users of a CBTi smartphone app (SleepUp®) registered between June 2020 and June 2022. Individuals were categorized into two groups (“dCBTi alone” and “dCBTi combined”) according to their self-reported use of sleep medication on the first day of treatment. Assessments were made based on the self-report of sleep logs (sleep quality and efficiency) and on insomnia severity (Insomnia Severity Index). Comparisons were made considering the first entry (baseline) and the mean of the last three days in which sleep logs were filled out (final). The final samples comprised 143 individuals: 73 (51%) reported using sleep medication at baseline, while 70 (49%) did not. In both groups, there was an improvement in sleep quality, (p

Abstract This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials tested the effects of home-based, supervised, or mixed exercise interventions on the functional capacity (FC) and quality of life (QoL) in colorectal cancer patients. A literature search was performed using the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Medline databases. Two reviewers screened the literature through March 10, 2021 for studies related to exercise and colorectal cancer. Of the 1161 screened studies in the initial search, 13 studies met the eligibility criteria (home-based = 6 studies; supervised or mixed = 7 studies). Overall, 706 patients were enrolled in the trials, and 372 patients were submitted to home-based, supervised, or mixed exercise intervention. The overall results from the main meta-analysis showed a significant effect regarding supervised or mixed intervention (6 studies; p = 0.002; I2 = 43%; PI 0.41–1.39); however, no significant effect was observed for home-based intervention (5 studies; p = 0.05; I2 = 25%; PI − 0.34–0.76). A sensitivity analysis based on studies with intervention adherence ≥ 80% (home-based = 3 studies; supervised or mixed = 4 studies) revealed that home-based intervention or intervention entirely supervised or with some level of supervision (mixed) are effective in improving the QoL and FC of CRC patients. In summary, this meta-analysis verified that supervised and home-based exercise can modify QoL and FC when intervention adherence ≥ 80%. Regardless of the supervision characteristics, future RCTs are strongly encouraged to provide a detailed description of the exercise variables in physical interventions for CRC prescription. This perspective will allow a refined exercise prescription for patients with CRC, mainly according to their clinical status.

Virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) are one of the most relevant solutions to integrate renewable energy in weak grids and microgrids. They indeed provide inverters characteristics of rotating machines (inertia for instance) that are useful for stabilizing the system, notably in the context of the high variability of the production. Thanks to the virtual characteristics of the VSG, the virtual parameters of the emulated synchronous machine can be optimally adapted online as a function of the electric environment of the inverter. We call that inverter’s control a polymorphic VSG. The online adaptation of the critical control parameters of the VSG helps reduce the risk of deterioration of the inverter’s constituents that might be induced by harsh events (frequent in weak grids) but, more importantly, improves the robustness of the system. In this paper, four implementations of a polymorphic VSG controller are compared on a simple microgrid study case to a complete VSG model. For the test, polymorphic VSGs have to minimize frequency and voltage oscillations while withstanding short circuits, which is typically a requirement for units in this context. One of the controls is based on recurrent optimization over a prediction time horizon, and two sub-optimal ones target practical implementation in industrial inverters with limited computational power. Results show a clear reduction in incidents in the microgrid thanks to the controllers. The error reduction with the complete polymorphic VSG is up to 100% for the voltage, 32% for the currents, and 79% for the duty ratio. Those values are decreased by 30 to 50% with the sub-optimal controllers but for a reduction in the computational burden of more than 97%. Recommendations are proposed for the development of an auto-adaptive polymorphic VSG from a high technology-readiness-level perspective, i.e., targeting a compromise between error reduction and computational burden.

Abstract This study proposes an approach for finding the optimal size of a high‐speed flywheel in an energy storage system based on battery‐flywheel cooperation, called battery‐flywheel energy storage system (BFESS), supplying an electric vehicle. Considering an energy‐based model for the flywheel and battery, including the losses, the optimal control theory is utilised as a two‐dimensional Pontryagin's minimum principle for solving the problem. The objective function of the flywheel sizing problem includes two terms, in which its maximum interaction with the system from the energy and filtering aspects are taken into consideration by a desirable weighting. While energy interaction is a common task, filtering the fast dynamics of the system such as the harsh conditions for the battery is the key role of the considered lightweight and high‐speed flywheel. A trade‐off between the energy contribution and filtering is made, targetted for the long‐term and short‐term dynamics in the drive cycles, respectively. The proposed methodology is presented in detail using some simple dynamics. Also, the sizing is carried out for the ECE‐15 urban drive cycle, the WLTC class‐3 and FTP‐75 drive cycles. The results confirm that by using the determined optimal size of the flywheel energy storage system (FESS), most of the dynamics could be handled from the filtering and energy interaction aspects.

Although the link between sleep and hematological parameters is well-described, it is unclear how this integration affects the swimmer’s performance. The parameters derived from the non-invasive critical velocity protocol have been extensively used to evaluate these athletes, especially the aerobic capacity (critical velocity—CV) and the anaerobic work capacity (AWC). Thus, this study applied the complex network model to verify the influence of sleep and hematological variables on the CV and AWC of young swimmers. Thirty-eight swimmers (male, n = 20; female, n = 18) completed five experimental evaluations. Initially, the athletes attended the laboratory facilities for venous blood collection, anthropometric measurements, and application of sleep questionnaires. Over the 4 subsequent days, athletes performed randomized maximal efforts on distances of 100, 200, 400, and 800-m. The aerobic and anerobic parameters were determined by linear function between distance vs. time, where CV relates to the slope of regression and AWC to y-intercept. Weighted but untargeted networks were generated based on significant (p < 0.05) correlations among variables regardless of the correlation coefficient. Betweenness and eigenvector metrics were used to highlight the more important nodes inside the complex network. Regardless of the centrality metric, basophils and red blood cells appeared as influential nodes in the networks with AWC or CV as targets. The role of other hematologic components was also revealed in these metrics, along with sleep total time. Overall, these results trigger new discussion on the influence of sleep and hematologic profile on the swimmer’s performance, and the relationships presented by this targeted complex network can be an important tool throughout the athlete’s development.

Three synchronous machine models representing three precision levels (complete, reduced and static), implemented in a virtual synchronous generator (VSG)-based industrial inverter, are compared and discussed to propose a set of tests for a possible standardization of VSG-based inverters and to ensure their “grid-friendly” operation in the context of isolated microgrids. The models and their implementation in the microcontroller of an industrial inverter (with the local control) are discussed, including the usability of the implementation with large-scale developments constraints in mind. The comparison is conducted based on existing standards (for synchronous machines and diesel generators) in order to determine their needed evolution, to define the requirements for future grid-friendly inverter-based generators, notably implementing a VSG solution.

This study aimed to systematically review studies that evaluated and compared mechanical, physiological, and technical parameters with the performance of slalom athletes. PubMed, SPORTDiscuss, and Scopus databases were searched until September 10, 2021, with no restriction of published data. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guided the study's screening and quality assessment performed by an external reviewer using a 16-checklist item. A search of the databases identified 125 studies, but only eight were eligible, including a total sample of 117 male athletes. Four reports only associated mechanical or technical parameters with the performance of the paddler. Concerning the remaining studies, only one correlated physiological data, and the others associated more than one parameter with race time. Most of the eligible reports presented significant associations between mechanical/physiological components and slalom performance. Eligible studies support that high-force development during a slalom race is a relevant parameter for performance. Aerobic metabolism is highly required during slalom tasks and is inversely associated with race time, although it may not increase the chances of winning medals. Few reports have associated canoe slalom performance with technical components, and further research should focus on this matter.

The Economist recently reported that infrastructure spending is the largest it is ever been as a share of world GDP. With $22 trillion in projected investments over the next ten years in emerging economies alone, the magazine calls it the "biggest investment boom in history." The efficiency of infrastructure planning and execution is therefore particularly important at present. Unfortunately, the private sector, the public sector and private/public sector partnerships have a dismal record of delivering on large infrastructure cost and performance promises. This paper explains why and how to solve the problem.

Methods: this is a qualitative, descriptive research, carried out with 34 individuals in social isolation due to suspicion or confirmation of coronavirus infection who passed through a screening tent of a university hospital in Paraná. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews in June and July 2020. Empirical categories were interpreted by content analysis. Results: four categories emerged: Distance; Social and emotional support; Self-awareness and resolution; Learning. These categories established the coping strategies. Conclusions: individuals undergoing social isolation are more likely to present problems related to mental health. It was highlighted that coping strategies, motivated by nurses, anchored in Hildegard Peplau’s theoretical framework, promoted the necessary learning for promoting participants’ mental health in the face of a pandemic context.

Abstract Background and Aims Previous research has investigated the impact of diet on cognition, but the focus has often been on general cognition. This paper reports on a preregistered cross‐sectional study aimed at testing for specific executive function differences across individuals who self‐reported one of four distinct dietary patterns: No Diet, No Sugar, Vegetarian, or Mediterranean Diet pattern. Our hypotheses were aimed at testing whether adherence to a specialty diet improved decision making relative to those who reported following No Diet. Methods We administered an incentivized Bayesian choice task to all participants. The task involved multiple components of information—existing information (base rate odds) as well as new information (sample draw evidence)—to allow a test of how these information components were used in making probability assessments, and how this may differ by self‐reported dietary pattern. Sample size, hypotheses, and analysis plans were all determined ex ante and registered on the Open Science Framework. Multi‐variate linear and non‐linear estimation methods were used to analyze the data. Results Our data failed to support our pre‐registered hypotheses. In fact, we found some evidence that self‐reported adherence to a specialty No Sugar Diet was associated with a reduced decision accuracy and was connected to an increased imbalance in how the participant weighted the two available sources of information when making choices. Conclusion Our results suggest that decision making is nuanced among dietary groups, but that short‐term incentivized decisions in an ecologically valid field setting are likely not improved solely by following promoted dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean or Vegetarian diets.

Background: The growing awareness for the high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) coupled with the dramatic proportion of undiagnosed individuals motivates the elaboration of a simple but accurate screening test. This study assesses, for the first time, the performance of oximetry combined with demographic information as a screening tool for identifying OSA in a representative (i.e. non-referred) population sample. Methods: A polysomnography (PSG) clinical database of 887 individuals from a representative population sample of São Paulo's city (Brazil) was used. Using features derived from the oxygen saturation signal during sleep periods and demographic information, a logistic regression model (termed OxyDOSA) was trained to distinguish between non-OSA and OSA individuals (mild, moderate, and severe). The OxyDOSA model performance was assessed against the PSG-based diagnosis of OSA (AASM 2017) and compared to the NoSAS and STOP-BANG questionnaires. Findings: The OxyDOSA model had mean AUROC = 0.94 ± 0.02, Se = 0.87 ± 0.04 and Sp = 0.85 ± 0.03. In particular, it did not miss any of the 75 severe OSA individuals. In comparison, the NoSAS questionnaire had AUROC = 0.83 ± 0.03, and missed 23/75 severe OSA individuals. The STOP-BANG had AUROC = 0.77 ± 0.04 and missed 14/75 severe OSA individuals. Interpretation: We provide strong evidence on a representative population sample that oximetry biomarkers combined with few demographic information, the OxyDOSA model, is an effective screening tool for OSA. Our results suggest that sleep questionnaires should be used with caution for OSA screening as they fail to identify many moderate and even some severe cases. The OxyDOSA model will need to be further validated on data recorded using overnight portable oximetry. We present ab-initio calculations of the excited state properties of liquid water in the framework of Many-Body Green's function formalism. Snapshots taken from molecular dynamics simulations are used as input geometries to calculate electronic and optical spectra, and the results are averaged over the different configurations. The optical absorption spectra with the inclusion of excitonic effects are calculated by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation. These calculations are made possible by exploiting the insensitivity of screening effects to a particular configuration. The resulting spectra are strongly modified by many-body effects, both concerning peak energies and lineshapes, and are in good agreement with experiments., Comment: 5 figures

A 3-year field trial examined in a long-term no-till system the effects of surface-applied lime and N application on soil chemical attributes, grain yield and Mn contents in the leaf and grain of corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] on a loamy, kaolinitic, thermic Typic Hapludox in Parana State, Brazil. The treatments consisted of dolomitic lime broadcast on the soil surface at 0, 4, 8, and 12 t/ha, in the main plots, and N application at 0, 60, 120, and 180 kg/ha, in the subplots. Nitrogen was applied as N-NH4NO3 in top dressing on the black oat (Avena strigosa Schreb) crop during the autumn–winter seasons before growing corn or soybean during the spring–summer seasons. Surface liming increased soil pH and the content of exchangeable Ca, and decreased the exchangeable Al level at topsoil. Acidification in the topsoil was caused by N-NH4NO3 application. Higher acidification was observed with N application in the no-lime plots. Grain yields of corn and soybean were not influenced by liming. Application of N-NH4NO3 on the black oat crop has low residual effect on grain yields of corn and soybean. Liming decreased Mn content in corn leaf and soybean leaf and grain. Nitrogen application increased Mn content in corn and soybean leaf and grain. Surface lime and N-NH4NO3 applications at higher rates did not cause Mn deficiency or toxicity in the no-till corn and soybean crops with a sufficient level of Mn (DTPA-TEA) in the topsoil.

- Abstract
Storytelling about success is a compelling strategy for communicating a new product's features, both internally to gain the support of key decision makers and externally to gain support for market launch. Yet, new product success stories often lean more toward stereotypes than facts, casting doubt on their accuracy and representativeness. This study examines the accuracy of innovation managers’ judgments about new product success rates when faced with stereotypical information. We specifically explore the influence of the representativeness heuristic, hypothesizing that it leads managers to rely on stereotypical information and potentially results in erroneous judgments. Through two experimental studies, we assess how the valence and amount of information impact judgment accuracy. Our findings indicate that both factors predominantly drive intuitive judgments, which can be less accurate than deliberation. Additionally, we discover that a manager's level of expertise moderates this relationship. Even expert innovation managers, when influenced by stories about potential new product success, tend to disregard factual data about past success rates. These findings offer critical insights into how reliance on stereotypical representations can skew innovation managers’ judgments about new product success.

38. Injectionless Acoustic-Noise-Based PMSM Sensorless Control Using RCPLL for Improved Estimation Performance

- Abstract
This article introduces an injectionless approach for acoustic-noise-based sensorless control of the permanent magnet synchronous machine. Replacing the high-frequency injection, the pulsewidth modulation (PWM) voltages are used as the basis for the method implementation. The mathematical model of PWM with considering the deadtime effect is first presented. Then, its impact upon the harmonics of current, magnetic fields, and generated radial forces is detailed. It is experimentally verified that in the presence of deadtime, unlike the contaminated current profile, there are merely specific-order speed-dependent components appeared in the acoustic noise spectrum, which is a clear bonus for signal processing precision and estimation performance. Moreover, a novel phase-locked loop (PLL) topology comprising a resonant-controller-based feedforward compensation block (RCPLL) is proposed. This compensation block is integrated within the PLL, by which the extra harmonics in the PLL error are directly suppressed, and therefore, the estimation performance is noticeably enhanced. The robustness of the proposed sensorless algorithm, alone, is verified experimentally under different conditions, and then, the estimation performances with and without the proposed RCPLL are compared.

- Abstract
This article presents an integrated optimal energy management strategy (EMS) and sizing of a high-speed flywheel energy storage system (FESS) in a battery electric vehicle. The methodology aims at extending the battery cycle life and drive range by relegating fast dynamics of the power demand to the FESS. For the EMS, the battery power and FESS energy are considered as weighted objectives of an optimization problem that are established using Pontryagin's Minimum Principle. In order to derive the optimal FESS size, the sizing algorithm is targeted to minimize the battery degradation level and increase the FESS energy interaction with the system. The performance of the proposed methodology is assessed using some driving cycles including ECE-15, UDDC, HWFET, and US06. Comparing the proposed battery/FESS to the battery-only topology, the battery SoH and life cycle are improved considerably for different driving cycles.

The article focuses on the study of the mechanism of metaphorization of flower vocabulary in the Russian and Italian languages. The denominations of flowers are motivated by semantic and word-formative processes: the inner form of these phytonyms may be pronounced or unclear. In certain cases the process of semantic derivation does not stop and develops a system of flower metaphors. The article analyzes the correlation between the original meaning of phytonymic denominations and their later one as formed in the metaphoric process: the metaphor may develop meanings already present in the first denomination, or it may rely on other features. The choice of the bases of methaphorization is important to understand the specificity of different metaphoric pictures of the world.

Introduction: The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an infectious disease that causes extensive damage to the population. Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of AIDS in adults in the state of Bahia. Methods: An exploratory and ecological study of time series was conducted with data provided by the Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS) from 1984 to 2013. Results: 24,213 cases of AIDS were diagnosed in adults with informed sex. Of this total, 15,261 (63%) were male, but there was a trend of epidemic growth in the female population over time, with a decrease in the sex ratio. The number of registered cases increased from 1990 to 1995 for both sexes. As for the exposure category, a change in the patient profile was revealed during the diagnostic periods. However, there was a predominance of sexual transmission, corresponding to 53.8% (13,017) of the cases diagnosed during the whole period with reported exposure category. Of the total cases, 8,918 (36.8%) corresponded to the heterosexual transmission via. Conclusion: The demonstration of the heterosexualization and feminization phenomena of the AIDS epidemic in Bahia shows the need for controlling measures such as educational campaigns including prevention, diagnosis and assistance to stop the epidemic. It is worth mentioning the need to improve epidemiological surveillance actions due to the large number of ignored information and the need for information qualification that allows the generation of more accurate data. However, the data obtained allow us to know the profile of the epidemic and its specificity.

- Abstract
In this article, a novel sensorless control for permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) using its radiated acoustic noise is proposed in which a high-frequency voltage signal is superimposed upon the fundamental excitation and the machine response to such excitation is studied. First, the analytical equations describing the field formation within the airgap leading to the generation of radial forces and acoustic noise are extensively investigated. In the next step, resulting harmonics in the acoustic noise waveform caused by the injected signals are predicted. Then it is experimentally verified that, depending on the machine structure, there will be some distinctive sidebands around the injected frequency directly related to the fundamental synchronous frequency. Acoustic noise waveform is highly distorted and sensitive to the environment; so a proposed four-stage signal processing algorithm containing two self-adaptive band-pass filters are used to safeguard the signal against unwanted distortions and flawlessly extract the rotor position information. Robustness and effectiveness of this method are verified experimentally in various operating conditions.

45. An Algorithm for Designing Value Propositions in the IoT Space: Addressing the Challenges of Selecting the Initial Class in Reference Class Forecasting

- Abstract
Developing products and entering new markets in the Internet of Things (IoT) and industry 4.0 space are challenging because value propositions and business models are complex. IoT products are fundamentally platform products, whose embedded components can measure a disparate set of characteristics for several user types. Deciding in advance which combination of characteristics and users to focus on is daunting, and further complicated wherever the user is not the payer. It requires prediction. A common predictive technique, such as reference class forecasting (RCF), often suffers from the biased selection of initial reference classes. In this article, we propose combining RCF with our new biclustering algorithm, ECrfBimax, built from 200 use cases we distilled. ECrfBimax uniquely makes biclustering predictive. Our combined biclustering/RCF approach helps managers and designers design value propositions for IoT devices through a data-driven selection of initial classes. Applying the algorithm to readily available qualitative data from a high-dimensional dataset comprising 10 competitors of a real-life IoT company, 200 customers, and 230 product characteristics, we identify solution characteristics deployable by that company in different sectors. ECrfBimax identifies how far competitors are targeting users using similar/dissimilar combinations of characteristics. Quantitative proxies for size, success, and performance based on funding raised empirically support and statistically validate the algorithm. Uniquely too, our bicluster hierarchically groups customers with characteristics which either should or should not be jointly developed to target them. We also uniquely compare RCF and biclustering as methods for analyzing objects’ similarity.

National surveys are relevant for the study of sleep epidemiology since they can provide specific data about sleep in large dimension with important implications for the health system. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of sleep complaints among the Brazilian population using a randomized cluster sample according to region and socioeconomic class. For this, a 3-stage sampling technique was used to randomly select Brazilian subjects of both genders older than 16 years. A total of 2017 subjects, from 132 different cities, were selected to estimate prevalence in the Brazilian population with a sampling error of ±2%. Questions about sleep complaints were administered face-to-face by Instituto Datafolha interviewers on April 10 and 16, 2012. Data were expanded using a weighted variable. The results showed that 76% of the study population suffers from at least 1 sleep complaint, indicating that approximately 108 million Brazilians may be affected by sleep disorders. On average, each subject had 1.9 sleep problems with the most common complaints being light and insufficient sleep, snoring, moving a lot during sleep, and insomnia, which usually occurred more than 3 times per week. Low income was associated with higher number of sleep complaints only in Northeast and Southeast regions. In conclusion, this study showed a high prevalence of sleep complaints in a sample of the Brazilian population, suggesting that sleep disorders may be markedly frequent in the Brazilian population with a possible correlation with the socioeconomic situation of the interviewed subjects.
