- Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine the influence of students' English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classroom anxiety and self-efficacy on their achievement. The research is exploratory, based on a quantitative approach and systematic non-experimental observation. The research results show that ESP self-efficacy is negatively correlated with classroom anxiety. ESP achievements are positively related to self-efficacy, and accordingly they show that some students are aware that they can, while others are aware that they cannot. Thus, the statistical significance of the relationship between ESP self-efficacy and achievement gives the advantage of self-efficacy as a predictor of success. Gender is only related to achievement, with female respondents achieving slightly higher grades. There were no significant differences between those who resided and those who did not reside in English-speaking countries. It is concluded that students should be educated to be realistic and objective in self-assessment. The meta-cognitive ability for realistic self-assessment should be developed in students because in the process of increasing self-regulation of learning, the value of personality is reflected in the self-efficacy pattern.

Discussion forums, as a form of asynchronous communication, represent an auxiliary tool in teaching that helps students to be involved in a discussion on a given topic, regardless their obligations, level of knowledge of a foreign language, or inhibitions when expressing themselves in a foreign language. The aim of the paper is to analyze two relationships in asynchronous communication: student-student (interpersonal register) and student-content (subject register), as well as the linguistic characteristics of discussion forums (media register). The paper will analyze the frequency of personal forms (first and second person singular and plural), shorter forms of auxiliary verbs and negation, passive, nominalization, as well as the sentence structure complexity in discussion forums created during the course in English for Professional Purposes, in the field of computing, at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. Additionally, the analysis will be supplemented by the analysis of emoticons and abbreviations, since they form an indispensable part of the Internet language. All analyzed elements were present in two analyzed corpora, although with significant differences in frequency. In the corpus related to the student-student relationship, a greater use of personal forms, a greater degree of interactivity in the text, a large representation of shorter forms of auxiliary verbs and negation, a simpler sentence structure, as well as a greater use of abbreviations and emoticons were observed. It can be concluded that the analyzed corpus in the student-student relationship is more similar to oral discourse - it has the characteristics of everyday speech. In the student-content corpus, on the other hand, the sentences are longer and more complex with a large number of nominalizations and a smaller number of personal forms, while the use of the passive voice is very frequent, which indicates a focus on the text, but also distancing from the text and the object of communication. These features make the analyzed corpus in the student-content relationship more similar to a written discourse, i.e., a more scientific text. Finally, the paper concludes that the language of discussion forums depends on the very context in which communication takes place.

- Abstract
The objective of this paper is to examine the impact of motivational orientations, or various forms of motivation, on the success of foreign language (L2) learning as a measure of self-regulation for ESP (English for Specific Purposes) students. It has been postulated that the nature of motivation has a substantial impact on second language (L2) learning, as evidenced by success as a measure of self-regulated learning. This association remains consistent even when moderator variables such as gender, age at which L2 learning begins, and years of L2 learning are integrated. This empirical research covered 460 respondents, of whom 245 (53%) were male. The students attended the Faculty of Technical Sciences (FTS) at the University of Novi Sad. The Foreign Language Learning Motivation Questionnaire (LLOS-IEA) was used as an instrument. Scale reliabilities were measured using Cronbach's alpha indicating satisfactory reliability. An achievement test with 50 tasks and a general data questionnaire were applied. PROCESS macro for SPSS was used for statistical analyses. The initial results indicate that students are highly motivated, with Intrinsic regulation (Knowledge, Achievement, and Stimulation) and Identified regulation achieving the highest scores with good motivational orientation that are significant predictors of self-regulation, which was also seen as an indicator on the L2 achievement test. Additionally, their levels of amotivation are low, while their levels of various categories of motivation are moderate. A notable positive predictor is identified regulation, suggesting that motivation facilitated by identified regulation is linked to an improved grade in L2 and overall achievement. Furthermore, it was determined that ESP students exhibit distinct types of motivation compared to other students, which serves as an indicator of self-regulation in ESP learning. It was established that ESP accomplishments are determined by the types of motivation present in L2 learning. The age of starting L2 learning, years of L2 learning, and gender are insignificant factors in the relationship between the observed variables. Also, it is recommended that future studies should be based on a larger corpus and include not only students of the technical sciences but also students of the social sciences in order to overcome its limitations. Writing an abstract is a challenging assignment for graduate students as it requires condensing all the extensive research into a few sentences, providing sufficient background knowledge, and presenting findings compellingly to the academic community. This study observes how graduate engineering students cope with writing their abstracts for their first published papers, with a specific focus on metadiscourse. The study is based on the learner corpus of 1,746 abstracts (117,535 words) written by non-native English speakers in English and Serbian during their Master's studies. The research follows Hyland's taxonomy, focusing on interactive frame markers and interactional engagement markers, together with metadiscursive nouns in order to uncover cross-linguistic patterns and pedagogical implications. The comparison of the absolute and relative frequency with statistical significance and log likelihood between Serbian and English sub-corpora demonstrates that students tend to use frame markers with greater frequency in Serbian abstracts than in English ones. Additionally, engagement markers, and especially directives, are used twice as often as frame markers in both sub-corpora, with a higher prevalence in English abstracts. Following the qualitative and quantitative analyses, the findings offer pedagogical implications related to the range of frame markers and metadiscursive nouns used by students to introduce their research aims and the range of engagement markers used to engage readers in their research and thus claim their credibility in academic writing. It have been performed the computational experiments with two hydrogen molecules and two graphene sheets. Hydrogen - hydrogen and hydrogen - carbon interactions are described by Lennard - Jones potential. Equations of motion of the wave packet centre are solved numerically. The initial molecule velocity was determined by temperature and collisions occur in central point between two sheets. The molecules after collision stay near or get far away of graphene sheets. Then one can find what temperatures, graphene sheet sizes and their distances are favourable for hydrogen storage. It is found that quantum corrections of the molecule classical trajectories are not significant here. Those investigations of possibility of hydrogen storage by physisorption are of interest for improvement of the fuel cell systems. The main disadvantages of computational experiments are: (1) it cannot compute with very large number of C atoms, (2) it is assumed that carbon atoms are placed always in their equilibrium positions and (3) the changes of wave packet width are not considered.

FIVE-factor model of personality ,SELF-confidence ,PERSONALITY ,PERSONALITY questionnaires ,GIFTED persons - Abstract
The study aims to identify the role of self-confidence, meta-cognition, personality traits, and motivation (predictive variables) as factors of success in second language (L2) learning. It is assumed that there is a high correlation between the observed variables in the meta-cognitive process, which distinguishes academically gifted students from regular students, and that self-confidence is an autonomous factor of success and has a significant role in the self-regulated motivation of gifted students. The results on the Language Proficiency Test are a criterion variable, while gender, residence in the country of the native speaker, duration of L2 learning, and average grade in studies are moderator variables. The sample is convenient, and consists of 460 students from the University of Novi Sad and the University of Belgrade. The research was carried out using a quantitative approach and a method of systematic non-experimental observation. The following instruments are used: the Big Five Personality Traits Questionnaire, the Meta-cognitive Awareness Inventory, the Memory and Reasoning Competence Inventory, the English Language Motivation Questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, and the L2 Proficiency Test. The main findings confirmed the hypothesis of a high correlation between the observed variables in the meta-cognitive process that distinguishes academically gifted students from regular students, as well as that self-confidence is an autonomous factor of success and plays an important role in the self-regulated motivation of the gifted. This confirms the significance of self-confidence in self-regulation and provides an indirect role in L2 learning achievements. Students should be aware of meta-cognitive processes and try to self-regulate their knowledge and learning strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Settore L-LIN/12 - Lingua e Traduzione - Lingua Inglese - Abstract
E-mails present an interpersonal computer-mediated communication and a most-widely used form of digital communication. In the formal academic setting, digital interaction between students and professors, although used on daily bases, frequently requires students to deliver higher pragmatic competence and language awareness to reflect power asymmetry. However, it also provides an opportunity for lowering the power distance settings, and for the utilization of engagement markers in order to establish and maintain a more accommodating and beneficent environment. As the markers involving the reader into the context, engagement markers explicitly build the relationship between the students and their professors. Using both qualitative and quantitative analysis, the paper will demonstrate how the use of engagement markers as a distinct metadiscourse category in student-professor e-mail communication facilitates interaction and establishes a more trusting relationship. Using the corpus of student e-mails to professors, in both Serbian and English, the analysis will focus on the lexical elements (second person pronouns, imperatives, question forms, etc.) that explicitly address professor as the participant in the e-mail content, thus creating a more amiable context and a low power distance setting. The results will demonstrate the differences in the use of engagement markers in English with the distinct formal communication and in Serbian with less lexical formal engagement markers. Finally, the results will reveal the distinctive use of metadiscourse markers in digital environment and the informal tendencies that are gradually prevailing over the formal communication.

Takvikursevi omogućavaju polaznicima da lakše i uspešnije razviju svoju pragmatičkukompetenciju i unaprede poslovnu komunikaciju., This thesis in applied linguistics and language teaching focuses on designing abusiness English course for the purpose of the development of pragmatic competenceof business English learners in order to improve their business communication in theEnglish language. Establishing and maintaining successful business communicationinvolving business people who use English as a common communication languagedepends on their ability to use the language in an appropriate way in an appropriatebusiness context. The research for this thesis consisted of two parts. The first part of the researchinvolved teachers of business English, students who attended business Englishcourses and employed learners who attended business English courses in privatelanguage schools. The purpose of this part of the research was to collect the data onbusiness English language teaching, the way the courses are organized and whatshould be included in the courses so that the learners are able to participate inbusiness communication in the English language. This was followed by the main part of the research, which involved twentyprofessionals attending a business English course. They were divided into two groups, control and experimental, with ten learners in each group. Both groups attended abusiness English course, however, the control group had a course based only on theselected course book, and the experimental group had a course designed on the basisof needs analysis and in accordance with the business situations in which they useEnglish language daily. Prior to the course learners in both groups completed ageneral data questionnaire, a needs analysis questionnaire, general and businessEnglish language entrance tests. The data gathered by the needs analysis questionnairewere additionally clarified by the answers in the first interview. The learners' progressin using English in business communication in both groups, especially regarding theuse of speech acts, was monitored by five tests, one after each of the topics coveredduring the course. The data collected in the research, both quantitative (collected by tests andquestionnaires) and qualitative (collected by questionnaires and interviews), werethoroughly analyzed. The analysis led to a conclusion that learners from theexperimental group showed substantially better improvement in tests and their overallability to communicate in business related contexts. The significance of this research is manifold and suggests that greater attentionshould be paid to designing business English courses for professionals and to athorough needs and business context analysis. Such courses would enable learners todevelop their pragmatic competence more successfully and, consequently, improvetheir business communication.

disperzija brzina rasta kristala ,natrijum hlorat ,rast i rastvaranje kristala ,the dispersion of crystal growth ,growth and dissolution of crystals ,sodium chlorate - Abstract
Radi detaljnog proučavanja pojave disprzije brzina rasta kristala i njihove vremenske evolucije u vremenski dugim eksperimentima uvedeni su pojmovi početne, intermedijalne i stabilisane brzine rasta kristala. Analiza eksperimentalnih rezultata predstavljenih u disertaciji doprinosi objašnjavanju proučavanih pojava u fizici rasta kristala. In this thesis the results of investigation of sodium chlorate crystals behavior in slightly supersaturated solutions will be presented. Experimental part of investigations was performed in Laboratory for crystal growth on Faculty of physics, University of Belgrade. Two types of experiments were performed. Behavior of sodium chlorate crystals in long time experiments in which growth rate changes inherent to crystals, independent of macroscopic external conditions, was investigated. The results of growth rate dispersions of small sodium chlorate crystals as well as their evolution in time were also discussed. For detailed study of phenomena of crystal growth rate dispersion and their time evolution in long - term experiments were introduced in terms of initial, intermedial and stabilized crystal growth rates. It was noticed that most of the studied crystals exhibited significant changes in their growth rates in the first few hours of growth. Five typical changes in crystal growth rate were noticed: 1) Measured growth rates decreased during the initial period of growth for 2 - 4 h. These growth rates did not change until the end of the experiments (within the measurement error limits). 2) Very high initial growth rates decreased and then, after 2 - 4 h, reached relatively high intermediate growth rates that were retained for the following few hours. After that, they reached stabilized growth rates. 3) Growth rates did not change during the whole growth run (within the measurement error limits). 4) Increase of growth rates during the first couple of hours of the experiment and reached the values which were retained until the end of the growth. 5) Crystals did not grow at all, or in some of the observed directions. To describe growth rate dispersion, results were fitted with finite mixture of normal distributions. Statistics enabled well definition of several distribution maxima of initial, intermediate and stabilized growth rates, respectively. In this thesis are proposed and discussed possible causes of changes in growth rates of observed crystals such as: changes in mass – transfer coefficient, presense of impurities, transition of the dominant dislocation source from one face to the neighboring one, changes on crystal surface and lattice strain. Behavior of small sodium chlorate crystals grown from aqueos solution on the temperatures near the saturation temperature of the solution was observed in the second type of experiments. Three types of crystals were noticed: growing, non - growing (growth rate 0 nm/s within the measurement error limits) and dissolving crystals. Possible reasons for simultaneous growth and dissolution of crystals on supersaturation below 0,18% are discussed in detail. The investigations were focused on crystals that dissolve in supersaturated solution. After the results analysis, the existence of dissolving crystals in a supersaturated solution is independent of: 1) the crystal position in the crystallization chamber, 2) the crystal orientation with respect to the solution flow direction, 3) the distance between the closest neighbors, 4) the crystal size and thickness Possible reasons for coexistence of growing and dissolving crystals, such as an Ostwald ripening, microscopic conditions in the crystallization chamber, microstructure of growing face, overall crystal lattice strain, Gibbs - Thompson effect and the presence of impurities, are discussed. Analysis of the experimental results presented in this dissertation contributes to explaining the phenomena studied in the physics of crystal growth.
