High school librarians and media specialists stand on an opposite side of the transition to college from academic librarians, and both sides are often unsure about the information literacy and library instructions their students are receiving on the other. Improving communication between the two groups could help first-year college students transition their information literacy and library skills into college. This session will showcase a free professional development workshop at an academic library for high school librarians to create dialogue and share current practices and pedagogy across the two sides of the transition to college. Participants will: Be able to demonstrate the benefits of outreach to regional high school librarians, media specialists, and school library workers. Be able to formulate a plan for conducting a free high school librarian professional development workshop.

Objective: Specialized technical skills alone in the field of library and information management are not sufficient, and information specialists who demonstrate a combination of hard and soft skills are preferred by employers in the present era, as they possess a clear competitive advantage. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the current status of core skills among university librarians in Kermanshah province from the perspective of librarians working in these universities. Methods: The present research is applied in nature and conducted using a survey method. The statistical population of this study consists of all university librarians in Kermanshah province (58 individuals). The research was carried out through a census, and 51 completed questionnaires were returned. The Sanders questionnaire (2019) was used to collect research data. To test the reliability of the questionnaire, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used, and the obtained alpha value was 0.81, indicating the desirable reliability coefficient for the questionnaire items. The collected data were analyzed using Friedman test and frequency distribution. Results: According to the Friedman test, the selected skills have a significant difference in mean, with the highest priority being HR/personnel management. Frequency distribution was used to answer other questions. The findings showed that 23 skills are needed by all graduates according to librarians, 21 skills are often needed by librarians, 3 skills are needed by some librarians, and 9 skills are needed by managers based on their frequency. Conclusions: The study showed that according to librarians in Kermanshah province's university libraries, the highest priority is human resource/personnel management, which is one of the managerial components. This means that librarians value the soft skills of their managers and consider it essential for managers to manage librarians in the best possible way and hire capable personnel. Interpersonal communication skills, customer service skills, search skills (ability to search databases, internet resources, and catalogs efficiently and effectively), evaluating and selecting information resources, teamwork, reader’s advisory, interacting with diverse communities and knowledge of professional ethics are among the other important skills considered in terms of librarians' needs. This means that all graduates must be familiar with these skills regardless of their future career path. Since according to librarians, soft skills are necessary for all graduates of the library and information science field, it seems that updating the curriculum of this field should focus on offering courses that teach these skills, and efforts should be made to teach soft skills to students through education. Also, two communication skills, interpersonal communication and customer service, which are the most important skills, are among the communication components. This also indicates the importance of communication skills for graduates. Soft skills are as important as hard skills, and students should try to learn soft skills regardless of their future career path to achieve success for themselves and their organization. Moreover, librarians should also try to improve their soft skills to be more successful in their careers.

Content primarily available on the Web and electronic media has changed the dynamics of how libraries operate and manage their mission. There is still generally a very simplistic and biased view of what a library is and what it offers. For most people, libraries are places to get information. But it is precisely information that is becoming more and more easily accessible with the advent of computers, networks and digital format, and even more so with the advent of mobile devices. In contrast, 21st century libraries are multi-faceted and inclusive spaces that support citizen participation from multiple perspectives. In many cases, librarians have become masters at training in the use of digital library services and many libraries have become technology training centres offering free or low-cost training through a wide variety of media. Today's librarians are more than stewards of books, videos and digital archives, they are also key members of the community and its public relations. Many organise and host community events, the library network along with other libraries and systems are key to fostering interaction and to increasing the quality of materials available to their users.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of organizational structure on the learning and organizational innovation of librarians in Tabriz Public universities. Methods: This research method is a descriptive-survey. The statistical population of this study is 63 librarians of public university libraries in Tabriz. The data gathering tools were three questionnaires. The validity of the questionnaires was approved by five experts in the field of knowledge and information science and their opinions were employed for the improvement of the final questionnaires. To confirm the reliability of the questionnaires, Cronbach's alpha was used. Data analysis was confirmed as descriptive and inferential statistics employing SPSS software. Results: The obtained value of the Pearson correlation test showed that there is a positive significant correlation between organizational structure and organizational learning of librarians (r=0.32, p= 0.011). In addition, there is a positive significant correlation between organizational learning and formalization (r = 0.34, p < 0.05) and organizational learning and centralization (r = 0.28, p <0.05). However, there was not significant relationship between complexity and organizational learning (p >0.05). The results also showed that there is a positive significant correlation between organizational structure and organizational innovation of librarians. Other results showed that there is a positive significant correlation between organizational innovation and organizational learning of librarians. Conclusions: It seems that the main challenge for educational organizations is to support innovation, which facilitates the process of adaptation to many environmental changes. Therefore, it can be argued that choosing the appropriate organizational structure is one of the essential conditions for successful adaptation to the changes, and this will be possible through the continuous design of the organizational structure.

Due to the speed and magnitude of the changes in the technological information field, resilience is important for the services provided in that area. It implies the ability to reinvent strategies and service models as circumstances change. It can occur at different levels: personal, group, community, organizational, etc. For this reason it is a relevant concept for libraries that are run by a single person, as well as for the largest units and information networks in which several people work, or for the organization in which a library is inserted. Resilience is closely related to the ethos of service; it allows to act appropriately in the face of opportunities as well as in the face of challenges, including crises and unexpected disruptions. It has maturity levels, related to different capacities: in the short term, maintain the usual services; change and adapt in the medium term; over longer periods, shape the internal environment and even influence the transformation of the external one. It is more a capacity or a process than a stable characteristic; there are fundamental elements that support it, such as situational awareness, the management of key vulnerabilities and the emotional consequences of changes, shared fundamental values, the ability to learn and adapt, the availability of resources, etc. It manifests itself in times of changes, challenges or crises, but there are ways to prepare to promote it. Norms that address this problem have been recently published, among which ISO 22316: 2017 stands out. The concept of resilience can also be misunderstood or instrumentalized for improper purposes, such as systematically denying the provision of necessary elements or pretending to justify precarious working conditions, so it is very important to study carefully the processes that supposedly involve it.

A SWOT analysis on 54 health sciences libraries -related libraries from Community autonomous of Madrid (Community of Madrid) was presented at BiblioMadSalud 2016. Results revealed some internal weaknesses: lack of coordination, communication and institutional involvement with libraries, and lack of insight on them. In order to find solutions, BiblioEstructura was proposed as a work-group to develop a structure, organization and performance of health libraries to be acknowledged by Community of Madrid administration. Its main objective was to gain insight on health libraries at hospital settings. The first line of work was to review current documentation on hospital structure, organization and performance; the second line was to conduct a survey on libraries from national health system hospitals. Current regulatory documentation on internal organization of national-wide and Community of Madrid hospitals was revised. We were assessed by expert, hospital managers. Surveys were performed with phone interview on 25 health libraries, through 12 open-ended questions that answered anonymously. Legislative documentation, i.e., Royal Decree 521/1987 and Regional Law 11/2017 do not mention health libraries. Responses from phone interviews showed great heterogeneity in management of libraries. Some self-named terms was general-purpose library, medical library, health library or professional library. Also, libraries can belong to Management Board of the Health Service or share their affiliations. Although 44% of hospital have a Library Committee, sometimes they have unified commissions. Library staffs are sometimes members of other hospital committees. 72% of libraries deliver certified training and offer lectures. Research foundation is present in 19 hospitals, but just 10 are connected with it, 4 have it in their web page, and one of them mentions it in its annual report. Our current research shows how diversity of terms and affiliations, and lack of involvement in management boards allow the poor acknowledgement of health libraries within the hospitals. These circumstances call for the need for regulation that fix those drawbacks. The opportunity to build a single entity for all CAM health libraries and work-groups is the key to work in common lines that enable the achievement of a common goal.

Proposal of a professional profile of the librarian/information scientist specialized in health sciences. In 2017 BiblioMadsalud held a working day from which emerged the proposal to create a permanent Working Group, #BiblioRHRH, whose main objective is the development of a professional profile for the need to adequately define the functions and skills of our profession, identifying areas of application in continuous changing. The most common problem in our field is that the figure of the health sciences librarian is not well defined. It means that jobs and competitive applications do not correspond to the specific professional librarian competencies and, therefore, with the skills, knowledge and mastery of the tools required to offer complete and high quality profesional librarian services. We take the document Professional Profiles of the Consejo de Cooperación Bibliotecaria as a reference and we’re working on the Health Sciences 3 Librarian profile elaboration, given that the publication allows the possibility of creating more specific and updated profiles. The aim of this paper is to present the Health Sciences Librarian profile elaborated by the BiblioMadSalud #BiblioRRHH Working Group.

RBE enable the organazation of school libraries, wiche ensure the free acess to the learning resources and the development of users's literacies. For that, the PB, a qualified teacher is the basis of this structure. Their functions and the legal regulations require constasnt updating, that is, specialized and continuos training. In this context, this paper aims to reflect on PB' function, training and assessment. To do that, the research follows a qualitative analytical methodology, using a content analysis to the legislation. The cross-referencing categories in legislation semms to indicate that the determinations of one legal paper is not reflected in the other legal paper. Therefore, it is concluded that there are inconsistencies and a gap in the assessment of the PB, consequently, another evaluative model is needed.

Although there is no legal obstacle within the organization, the invisible barriers that prevent women from coming to senior management positions are called glass ceiling syndrome; in the literature. The main reason for choosing gender discrimination as the subject of this study is that this issue can be encountered at all levels of business life as well as for women working in libraries, information center, etc. and it puts them at a disadvantage. The starting point of this assumption has been that the students who preferred the Information and Records Management Departments, which provide undergraduate education in universities from the past to the present, were predominantly female students, then this weight continued in their professional life, but the situation was reversed in the management levels. Despite this, it is interesting to see that this important subject has not been explored in the librarianship literature until now. The aim of the study is to investigate whether the glass ceiling syndrome has an effect on the promotion of female information professionals to managerial positions. In this study, the data about the information professionals studying and working in this field were turned into statistical tables and an evaluation was made based on these results by considering the reasons for bringing men to the managerial positions in a female-dominated profession. As a result of the evaluation of the data, the assumption that the initial glass ceiling syndrome was an obstacle in the professional careers of female information professionals was also confirmed.

This infographic report seeks to check what part of truth is hidden behind librarian stereotypes. The bun, the glasses, the antipathy, the introversion... Are Catalan librarians like this in the 21st century? Do they share any personal traits that have led them to the profession? To answer this questions, more than 500 qualified professionals from Catalonia (Spain) in working age were surveyed. The results are presented in an informal but rigorous way.

India is a country located in southern Asia. With a population of over 1.3 billion people, in 29 states and 7 union territories, India is the most populous democracy in the world. Every state has unique traditional clothes that women wear. However there are three prominent types of clothes worn by women in India i.e. Sari, Salwar Kameez and Kurti. Over time, the sense of dressing has evolved and changed. Due to factors like globalisation and westernisation, today’s women take a modern approach when it comes to dress. The paper focused on female librarians’ clothing in India. The survey was conducted by inviting women librarians in every state to give their opinions about today’s clothing styles and their preferences of clothes for daily use and for special occasions such as conferences/ workshops/meetings, etc. The study also explored piercing and tattooing styles and their preferences, and use of jewellery by women library professionals. It was found that Salwar Kameez, Chudidar/Kurta and Saree were most preferred on weekdays, similar outfits were preferred on weekends or Saturdays including Kurti with jeans. Almost all feel comfortable and confident in the outfits they commonly wear. Respondents select outfits considering their profession and status. The majority felt that clothing/outfits have the influence on approachability of students/library users. Jewellery and other accessories were preferred by a moderate number of respondents whereas tattooing practice was totally absent. In case of stereotyping of librarians, respondents felt that librarians have had not been stereotyped in media as far as Indian media is concerned.

Comics and quotes to practice English language in a library environment. Quotes & Jokes (Q&J) was a project initiated by Tomàs Baiget on October 15, 2004, and developed over nearly 10 years, until April 2014. It consisted of sending every Friday a message with a quote, a short text, or a short comic strip in English, with translation into Spanish and comments on the vocabulary, through the mailing list IweTel. https://listserv.rediris.es/cgi-bin/wa?A0=IWETEL There were sent 353 messages, which are collected in this book, duly reviewed (although in some cases one have to think that they were written several years ago). Urls have been updated. The aim of the project was to help improve the colleagues' level of English language. According to polls conducted twice, messages were read regularly by about 460 loyal followers, although we assume that sporadically they were read by some more people among the 5,700 members who received them through the IweTel list. During that periode, the messages were posted to http://www.qandj.info website (web site now disappeared; you can see 101 home page captures on the WayBack Machine of the Internet Archive). The design, hosting and technical maintenance of Q&J were carried out by Javier Leiva-Aguilera, from the company Catorze.com (http://javierleiva.com). In addition to Tomàs Baiget, in the Q&J team participated Alice C. Keefer, Josep Sau, Elaine Lilly, Lara San-Mamés and Julia-Esther Espinosa. Please note: The book has 470 pages and the pdf version weighs 28 MB

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the diagnosis of employees' mental absence and to provide a suitable model for the Iranian Tobacco Company. Method: This research was conducted with a qualitative-inductive approach and the method of Strauss-Corbin's grounded theory. The research tool (data collection) is a semi-structured interview that analyzes the data obtained from interviews with 10 qualified elites and experts of the Iranian Tobacco Company in three stages of open, axial, and selective coding in ATLAS TI software using the grounded theory method. Findings: 13 general categories in the form of a paradigm model in which these factors include causal conditions (individual factors; factors of group behavior; organizational factors; environmental factors), axial phenomenon (diagnosis of the mental absence of employees), contextual conditions (environmental and physical context), intervening conditions (individual factors ), and strategies (organizational strategy; job-related strategy; career development strategy), and consequences (individual outcomes; effectiveness; group outcomes) were identified. Conclusion: In a business environment with digital disruption from competitors and customers who have more choices through the availability of digital applications and information, it is important to ensure that organizations can quickly understand and adapt to new information. The need for mindfulness and control of mental absence is a prerequisite for digital transformation.

This paper, “The end of tenure and the advent of renewable contracts for all in LIS,” as part of a topic suggested by the organizers of the Part-Time and Adjuncts SIG Session of ALISE 2014, whose title of proposed session is: Casualties and Collateral Damages: A Critical Look at Educational Entrepreneurship, written and proposed by a Mexican LIS scholar educated at national and international universities, LIS at undergraduate level at UANL, Mexico, one (Muela-Meza) in the USA at Master level (SUNY-Buffalo), and PhD (Muela-Meza, in Information Studies at the University of Sheffield, UK). Having a long tradition employing critical librarianship conceptualizations to his LIS practice and scholarship at UANL, and to his journal Librarianship (LIS) Critique: Journal of the Sciences of Information Science. And having researched and faced since 2008 many situations as part-time and adjunct professor at UANL, hampering his mobility towards full tenure. Thus, if accepted this proposal for participation by presence at ALISE in Philadelphia, would give the author the chance to bring forward some international insights on the issues of fading out of tenure and the advent of renewable contracts with critical epistemology and critical theories and concepts, mainly comparing the U.S., British, Spanish, and Mexican librarianship. Based on some international critics of capitalism and neo-liberal policies (Bouzas and de la Garza, 1998; Berry, 2002; 2005; Giroux, 2012), and underpinned with critical epistemology and critical librarianship concepts, they will try to analyze these issues as how they affect LIS theory and practice (as in e.g. Horner, 2000).

The intention of this working document is to share some of the perspectives on the advances and technologies that libraries may take advantage of. To start, I provide a brief conceptualization of that evolving place that we still call a library. These concepts are those of virtual library, digital library, and library 2.0. Furthermore, I present an approximation towards a categorization of the competencies that we should develop and enhance in our exercise of the librarian profession. I hope that this working document will offer provocative and motivational ideas to the reader from my own experiences.

Audiovisual documentation on TV is being stilted for external factors -the economical crisis- and internal factors. The external factors have induced changes on different areas of TV such as program planning, decrease of production of in-house programs, close down of correspondent offices, mergers of different channels, etc. The internal factors, the digitalization of the audiovisual production and the analogical archive, have induced to change tasks that until now have been done by documentary makers and nowadays are being realized by journalists. Those factors affect not only the daily work of the documentary markers but also their raison d’être. The purpose of this article is to show that the actual questioning of the profession does not have any kind of reasoning. On one hand, the influence of the external and internal factors already mentioned over the documentary makers is not as negative as it may seem a priori; on the other hand, besides it is truth that this discipline will have to adapt itself to the new circumstances, day by day documentary makers are going to be more and more necessaries on TV.

The factors affecting the success and efficiency of information systems are always an important and critical aspect for the structure, proper operation, and improvement of the produced services and products of an organization for its end users - both for the internal ones (employees) and for the external ones (public). At the present, the need to create suitable parameters, assisting in evaluating and measuring the successful operation of an information system in an organization is constantly growing. The purpose of the specific thesis is, firstly, to introduce us to the environment of the organizations’ information systems, while also providing us with a complete and extended presentation of their operations, processes, infrastructures, and factors of success. Through Systems Theory, we shall examine the analysis and design for an information system, while identifying the quality parameters necessary for measuring its success. In addition, we shall employ the model for measuring quality for an information system called: “DeLone & McLean Information Systems success model”. We shall see what each parameter of the above model examines, by investigating concepts such as system quality, information quality, user satisfaction, effect of quality on users and organization. At the same time, we shall develop an application for evaluating the quality of an information system, the so-called: "Organizational Memory Information Systems Quality" which builds on the success model of DeLone & McLean. The main objective of this thesis is to reach into a fruitful discussion regarding quality in the operation, infrastructure, and provided services of institutional organizations. Moreover, we shall focus on the usefulness and importance of measuring factors regarding efficiency for an information system, as this procedure is used by modern Society of Information, in order to be transformed to Society of Knowledge.

Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to present the main findings of a nation-wide online survey of Croatian LIS stakeholders - library practitioners, mainly graduate librarians and library managers – regarding subject-related competencies and further CPD activities in perspective of lifelong learning of librarians. The findings were used to create a model of LIS competency framework strongly valued by labour market. Design/methodology/approach – A sample of 216 Croatian libraries was pre-selected to participate in an online survey in order to obtain an optimal stratification of study cohort according to library type, library size and territorial coverage. Two distinctive online questionnaires were prepared, one for library managers, the other for library practitioners. 113 library managers (52% of pre-selected sample) and 260 librarians (cca. 10% of estimated size of overall professional body in Croatia) responded. A Tuning methodology was applied for purpose of identifying subject-related and key generic competencies in LIS. Findings – The results of the online survey indicate that for LIS professionals there is a unified „core‟ of subject-specific competencies valid for every type of library. The same is true for subject-specific competencies on „periphery‟. Generic competencies have been strongly valued by both groups of respondents. Participation in formal and informal learning opportunities has proved to be intrinsically motivated, self-directed and driven by pragmatic reasons – a wish to improve working skills and increase self-confidence. Practical implications – It is hoped that the competency-based approach applied to the CPD programme may bridge the gap between initially acquired competencies, labour market expectations and personal goals fostered by an integrative process of lifelong learning. Originality/value – The research is the first nation-wide investigation into the LIS competency framework in Croatia.

Since its creation in 1985, one of the priorities of the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (Spanish Railway Foundation) has been the safekeeping and dissemination of the railway’s documental and bibliographic heritage. At the end of the 1990s, its Documentation Department was restructured in order to be able to offer researchers an integrated information and research service, giving rise to a Documentation and Historical Railway Archive Department, which in turn was divided into two main areas: Documental Heritage and Railway History Programme. This structure provides the basis for devising a range of collaboration and dissemination programs in which the different sections that form part of these areas interact. The basic objectives of the Historical Railway Archive, the Railway Library and Newspaper Library, the Documentation Centre and the Translation Service are the safekeeping and dissemination of railway documentation through their different collections, while the Railway History Programme is in charge of promoting and consolidating railway history research. This confluence of professionals results in a Centre of Resources for Railway Research, whose main exponents are the “Docutren” web page, the organisation of conferences, congresses and exhibitions, the issue of publications, agreements with researchers and institutions, as well as other activities related to its objectives.

The qualitative analysis done on interviews to 20 teacher librarians, about their perceptions on factors that might impact students’ educational success seems to reveal that collaborative work is one of the conditions for this success to exist and one of the biggest challenges to those teachers. The theme collaboration appears in the discourse of all interviewees and it was not found significant differences of opinion, in what refers to its importance, between teachers with and without specific training to perform their tasks in the school libraries belonging to schools with diverse characteristics and geographical location. Nevertheless, it was not identified any real collaboration practices between teachers but only cases of coordination and / or cooperation. Some of the conditions most referred by the interviewed teacher librarians as “against” to and “in favour” of collaborative work and educational success, where respectively, lack of time and the existence of a full time teacher librarian. Some suggestions and / or recommendations are done to the responsible for the organisation and development of school libraries as to gather efforts to get the teacher librarian post institutionalised, and to the school management boards to implement and stimulate true collaborative work between teachers and teacher librarian, aiming at the students’ educational success. specific training might have on students’ educational success, and to gather diverse opinions, TL with (WT) and with out (WOT) specific training, to perform their duties at the SL were interviewed. The interviews were taped, with the interviewee’s agreement, and their qualitative analysis was supported by the use of ATLAS.ti software.
