Introduction: Extracted from gamboge resin, gambogic acid (GBA) is a natural product that displays a complex caged xanthone structure and exhibits promising antitumor properties. However, efforts to advance this compound to clinical applications have been thwarted by its limited availability that in turn, restricts its pharmacological optimization. Methods: We report here an efficient method that allows multigram scale isolation of GBA in greater than 97% diastereomeric purity from various sources of commercially available gamboge. The overall process includes: (a) isolation of organic components from the resin; (b) separation of GBA from the organic components via crystallization as its pyridinium salt; and (c) acidification of the salt to isolate the free GBA. Results and Discussion: We found that GBA is susceptible to epimerization at the C2 center that produces epi-gambogic acid (epi-GBA), a commoncontaminant of all commercial sources of this compound. Mechanistic studies indicate that this epimerization proceeds via an ortho-quinone methide intermediate. Although the observed stereochemical erosion accounts for the chemical fragility of GBA, it does not significantly affect its biological activity especially as it relates to cancer cell cytotoxicity. Specifically, we measured similar levels of cytotoxicity for either pure GBA or an equilibrated mixture of GBA/epi-GBA in MBA-MB-231 cells with IC50 values at submicromolar concentration and induction of apoptosis after 12 hours of incubation. Summary: The study investigates, the potential utilisation of the Garcinia indica linn rind powder as a valuable and healthy ingredient for food industry. Techno‐functional properties revealed the functional attributes which is crucial for product development. Characterisation of the powder and extract revealed the physical, chemical, and structural properties through FTIR, HPLC, and SEM. Therefore, moisture content (5.45%), ash content (2.80%), fibre content (7.56%), and fat content (9.54%) were reported in G. indica linn rind. Phytochemical analysis indicated significant levels of phenolic and flavonoid compounds, suggesting antioxidant potential, supported by inhibition in the DPPH assay with IC50 value of 485.1 μg/mL. In‐vitro assays revealed inhibitory effects on α‐amylase with IC50 value of 58.43 μg/mL and glucose with an IC50 value of 0.39 μg/mL, indicating potential benefits in blood glucose management and weight control. Overall, G. indica rind powder shows promise as a natural ingredient with diverse applications in functional foods and nutraceuticals, offering potential health benefits through innovative product formulations. The tropical Garcinia genus of flowering plants is a prolific producer of aromatic natural products including polyphenols, flavonoids, and xanthones. In this study, we report the first phytochemical investigation of Garcinia caudiculata Ridl. from the island of Borneo. Fractionation, purification, and structure elucidation by MS and NMR resulted in the discovery of two meroterpenoids. One was a benzofuranone lactone previously isolated from Iryanthera grandis and Rhus chinensis, and the second was a new hydroquinone methyl ester that we named caudiquinol. The inhibition of HDAC activity is presently one of the main targets for anticancer drug development. This study aimed to investigate the anticancer effect of cowanol via inhibition of HDAC and apoptosis induction in leukemic Jurkat cells. Computational analysis and HDAC inhibitor screening assays were used to determine the properties of cowanol as an HDAC inhibitor in Jurkat cells. MTT assays and Hoechst staining were performed to observe the cytotoxicity and apoptotic induction effect of cowanol. In silico docking analysis revealed that cowanol could tightly bind to the active sites of both HDAC class I (HDAC 2 and 8) and HDAC class II (HDAC 4 and 7) with a similar mode of binding to the reference inhibitors. Importantly, cowanol obviously interacts with the zinc ion at the catalytic center as well as with other amino acid residues in the active region, indicating its possible function as an HDAC inhibitor. The ADME results showed that cowanol possessed acceptable pharmacokinetics and drug-likeness properties, which suggested oral bioavailability. In addition, the screening assay demonstrated that cowanol could inhibit HDAC at 20 - 60 % compared to the standard HDAC inhibitor, SAHA. Moreover, the cytotoxic effect of cowanol against Jurkat cells with the IC50 was 18.19 ± 0.44 µM. For the mode of cell death, nuclear condensation and apoptotic bodies were characterized, supporting the role of the apoptosis inducer cowanol. Hence, our results indicated a potential new role of cowanol as an HDAC inhibitor. In our continuation of exploring antidiabetic agents from Garcinia species, we found that the methanolic extract of G. macrantha A.C.Sm. exhibited considerable α-glucosidase inhibition of 58.20 ± 0.37% in sucrose substrate and 39.86 ± 2.07% in maltose substrate at 100 μg/mL. Phytochemical investigation on the extract revealed the presence of a new biphenyl, macrabiphenyl A, which was successfully elucidated by means of spectroscopic methods (HRESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR). Garcinia xanthochymus is a climax tree species growing in the Xishuangbanna tropical rainforests, which possesses a unique adaptation mechanism to the tropical monsoon climate, i.e., its seeds mature at the end of the rainy season and shed, mostly do not germinate until next rainy season, distinctly differing from most other climax species there. This study investigated the morphological structure, desiccation tolerance, and germination characteristics of G. xanthochymus seeds to understand their cytological basis and ecological adaptation. It was found that G. xanthochymus seeds germinate when incubated at temperatures between 20 and 35 °C, with a thermal optimum of 30 °C, but have a short period of dormancy (> 40 days even at 30 °C). The seeds were intolerant to desiccation, and completely lost viability when desiccated to 25% miosture content (fresh weight basis), exhibiting typical recalcitrant seed traits. However, they also possessed strong desiccation resistance, maintaining approximately 33% misture content and 50% viability even after 20 days of silica gel drying. Until germination, G. xanthochymus seeds did not exhibit visible structural differentiation. They are composed of a cluster of uniformly shaped, shallowly differentiated parenchymal cells possessing embryonic and storage functions. Thus, they germinate totipotently and can regenerate into seedlings even after being subjected to various cutting, which protects them from animal grazing. This explains how G. xanthochymus seeds withstand biotic and abiotic stresses during the dry season in Xishuangbanna, meanwhile implys that G. xanthochymus is more dependent on the forest environment and more sensitive to habitat changes. Garcinia lanceifolia, also locally referred to as "Pelh" (Mizo), is a significant and endemic medicinal edible fruit tree found in North East India. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-ulcer properties of a methanolic extract of G. lanceifolia fruit (GLME) against ethanol-induced gastric tissue damage in rats. Adult Wistar albino rats were given oral pretreatment doses of GLME (400 and 600 mg/kg of GLME in CMC solution) one hour before oral administration of absolute ethanol to assess their gastric mucosal injury protective properties. The control group received only carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), the ulcer control group received absolute ethanol (5 ml/kg) and the positive reference group received the anti-ulcer drug omeprazole 20 mg/kg. The GLME pre-treatment group (400 mg/kg) exhibited a significant decrease in gastric mucosal injury, as demonstrated by histological investigations and showed marked gastric mucosal protection, reduction or absence of lesions, and infiltration injury of the submucosal layer. Conversely, the ulcer control group showed severe damage to the gastric mucosa lining. There is a significant increase in pH and a decrease in the total acidity in GLME-pretreated rats compared to the ulcer control group (p<0.001). Further, there is significant percentage inhibition and decreased ulcer index at 400 mg/kg pre-treated dose compared to the the ulcer control group (p<0.001). Introduction: There is a growing interest in studying natural products for the identification of novel lead compounds for drug development for treating inflammatory diseases. Although some studies have focused anti-inflammatory activity of benzophenones and xanthones, exploring additional targets such as enzymes and cytokines, involved in their inflammatory response could provide more comprehensive understanding of the compounds' anti-inflammatory effects. In this study, four xanthones ananixanthone (1), smeathxanthone A (2), smeathxanthone B (3), and 1,3,5,8-tetrahydroxy-2-(3-methybut-2-enyl)-4-(3,7- dimethyloct-2,6-dienyl) xanthone (4); and three benzophenones guttiferone O (5), guttiferone M (6), and aristophenone A (7) from Garcinia smeathmannii (Planch. & Triana) Oliv. were investigated for their effect on nitric oxide production, cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase inhibition, and Th1/Th2 cytokines production in activated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Methods: The Griess reagent method and the ferrous oxidation-xylenol orange assay were used to evaluate the inhibition of NO production and the 15-lipoxygenase activity respectively. Cyclooxygenase activity was assessed using the fluorometric COX activity assay kit and measurement of Th1/Th2 cytokines was performed using a flow cytometer. Results: All the tested compounds exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition of NO production with varying degrees of inhibitory effects on 15-LOX activity. Compound (6), displays the best inhibitory effect on COX-1/COX-2 activity. A general trend of the tested compounds on cytokines profiles revealed that compound (5) showed a pronounced enhancement of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). Conclusion: This observation supports future exploration of ananixanthone (1), guttiferone O (5), and guttiferone (6) as potential candidates for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs. Summary: Various parts of Garcinia atroviridis have long been used to address various health issues and as a seasoning. Past research has highlighted the leaf extracts' diverse medicinal properties, including antioxidant, antihyperlipidaemic, antibacterial, antitumor, anti‐inflammatory, and antifungal effects. No research has explored the therapeutic effects of the ethanolic crude extract of G. atroviridis fruits (GAECE) for diabetes. This study aims to assess GAECE's antidiabetic potential using various methods, including in vitro and in ovo assays, cytotoxicity testing, phytochemical profiling, and in silico analysis to identify active compounds. The GAECE was prepared using the maceration method and evaluated for its inhibitory effect against DPP‐4, α‐glucosidase, and α‐amylase enzyme activities. The glucose uptake potential and the kinetic study of glucose uptake were performed to determine the time required to exert its glucose uptake potential. Moreover, the antihyperglycaemic effect was evaluated in diabetes induced in ovo model. Q‐TOF LCMS was performed to identify the phytochemical, which was then subjected to molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was conducted for 100 nanoseconds to validate the ligand–receptor complexes. GAECE exhibited promising antidiabetic potential, with half maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of 0.129 ± 0.002 mg mL−1 for α‐amylase and 0.593 ± 0.01 mg mL−1 for α‐glucosidase; and showed an inhibition of 70.07 ± 0.96% for DPP‐4 enzymes at 0.5 mg mL−1. The 50% cell viability was found to be 0.87 ± 0.08 mg mL−1, 0.76 ± 0.04 mg mL−1, and 0.66 ± 0.03 mg mL−1 for 24, 48, and 72 h of treatment, respectively. Furthermore, GAECE showed potential for glucose uptake in differentiated L6 cells, resulting in a 136.7 ± 1.2% increase in glucose uptake. Kinetic analysis revealed peak potential at 10 min at the concentration of 0.4 mg mL−1. Melanin, the pigment responsible for human skin color, increases susceptibility to UV radiation, leading to excessive melanin production and hyperpigmentation disorders. This study investigated the ethanolic extract of Garcinia atroviridis fruits for its phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant activity, and impact on melanogenesis pathways using qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis. Utilizing network pharmacology, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations, researchers explored G. atroviridis fruit extract's active compounds, targets, and pharmacological effects on hyperpigmentation. G. atroviridis fruit extract exhibited antioxidant properties, scavenging DPPH• and ABTS•+ radicals radicals and chelating copper. It inhibited cellular tyrosinase activity and melanin content in stimulated B16F10 cells, downregulating TYR, TRP-1, phosphorylated CREB, CREB, and MITF proteins along with transcription levels of MITF, TYR, and TRP-2. LC-MS analysis identified thirty-three metabolites, with seventeen compounds selected for further investigation. Network pharmacology revealed 41 hyperpigmentation-associated genes and identified significant GO terms and KEGG pathways, including cancer-related pathways. Kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside exhibited high binding affinity against MAPK3/ERK1, potentially regulating melanogenesis by inhibiting tyrosinase activity. Stable ligand–protein interactions in molecular dynamics simulations supported these findings. Overall, this study suggests that the ethanolic extract of G. atroviridis fruits possesses significant antioxidant, tyrosinase inhibitory, and anti-melanogenic properties mediated through key molecular targets and pathways. The application of corrosion inhibitors is a more effective strategy tomitigate the impacts of aluminum corrosion. Phytochemical analysis, gravimetric technique, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to investigate the inhibitory potentials of Garcinia kola aqueous leave extract for the corrosion of aluminum alloy (AA4007) in 1 M NAOH. The highest inhibition efficiency obtained was 98.5%. The result from the analyses collaborated that the leaf extract is a good inhibitor. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm is in agreement that the inhibitor is physisorption. Garcinia kola showed high corrosion inhibition efficiency on aluminum alloy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bioassay-guided isolation of the stems of Garcinia paucinervis led to one new adamantane-type polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs), (-)-garpauvinin A (1), and four known analogues (2–5). The structure and absolute configuration of 1 was established via spectroscopic techniques and ECD method. All the isolates displayed moderate antiproliferative activity against HL-60, PC-3 and Caco-2 human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 0.81 to 19.92 μM, and exhibited low toxicity on WPMY-1 normal human cells, showing selectivity between normal and malignant prostate cells. Bioeconomy would be a beneficial solution for funding through the rational use of finances and human resources in order to achieve better productivity and fruitfulness of mosquito control programs. Synthetic insecticides are widely used to repress mosquitoes. However, it instigates problems such as insecticide resistance among mosquitoes such as developing resistance, bio‐accumulation, and ecosystem destabilization. Natural plant‐based products are a healthy alternative to use as mosquito larvicides. The country has to spend a considerable cost for buying synthetic insecticides too. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to evaluate larvicidal efficacy of Garcinia zeylanica, Garcinia quaesita, and Coleus hadiensis against Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. Fresh leaves of plants were collected, and the aqueous crude extract was prepared. Phytochemicals were extracted using refluxing technique. A concentration series of crude extract of leaves were prepared separately from 20 to 100 mg/L. Batches of each containing 100 third instar larvae of Ae. aegypti were used for larval bioassays. Ae. aegypti mosquito larvae were evaluated in accordance with the guidelines of World Health Organization. The experimental setup was repeated four times at each concentration. Probit analysis was used to evaluate the relationship of mortality with the concentration of aqueous crude extract. The G. zeylanica and G. quaesita leaf extracts showed a dose‐dependent effect against Ae. aegypti larvae after the 24 and 48 h exposure period. Interestingly, C. hadiensis did not show any dose‐dependent effect against A. aegypti mosquito larvae. The percentage mortality rates have shown a significant variance among different concentrations (P = 0.000). The recorded LC50 and LC90 for aqueous crude extract of G. zeylanica were 27.167 and 52.861 g/L, respectively, and LC50 and LC90 for aqueous crude extract of G. quaesita were 36.841 and 76.036 g/L, respectively, after 24 h of exposure period. The G. zeylanica and G. quaesita plant's high larvicidal activity is supported by the presence of phytochemicals such as saponins, steroids, flavonoids, and phenol, which showed combination effects in terms of larvicidal action to mosquito larvae. Hence, there is a potential of G. zeylanica and G. quaesita aqueous leaf extracts as a key source for the development of an environment‐friendly plant‐based larvicide against Ae. aegypti. Hence, this warrants vector control entities to re‐think "biological wealth for economic prosperity" with environmentally friendly country‐wide control approaches for medically important disease vectors. Garcinia cambogia, a weight control herbal, can cause mild liver toxicity with nonspecific histologic changes. Herein, we reported a case of herbal-induced fulminant cholestatic giant cell hepatitis due to garcinia cambogia use. A 65-year-old woman with breast cancer treated 18 years earlier was admitted for obstructive jaundice for 2 weeks. She started using garcinia cambogia 3 months ago for weight loss. Physical exam showed scleral icterus. Serum studies excluded Wilson's disease, systemic infection including COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), autoimmune hepatitis, and metabolic or toxicologic causes. An urgent liver biopsy showed severe giant cell hepatitis in absence of HSV-1/2, cytomegalovirus, HBsAg and HBcAg (immunostain), and EBV (in situ hybridization). Despite supportive therapy, the patient developed grade 2–3 hepatic encephalopathy and necessitated liver transplant. The explanted liver was markedly atrophy, in which the most striking histologic finding was diffuse distribution of multinucleated giant hepatocytes with syncytial pattern in a background of extensive zone-1 accentuated, geographic, hemorrhagic, confluent hepatocytic necrosis, along with remarkable hepatocytic and canalicular cholestasis. This article discusses the cytotoxic constituents found in the fruits of Garcinia schomburgkiana, a tree commonly known as Ma-dan in Thai. The study isolated fourteen compounds from the fruits, including volkensiflavone, morelloflavone, and oblongifolin C, which have potential cytotoxic properties against various cancer cell lines. The article provides chemical data for several compounds, including their molecular formulas, NMR spectra, and mass spectrometry data. From the Vietnamese Garcinia schomburgkiana fruits, a new compound, guttiferone X (1), together with two known compounds, guttiferones I (2) and K (3), were isolated and structurally elucidated. Purpose: Garcinia quaesita is an exquisite spice used extensively in imparting flavor to foods, and in curing diseases in Ayurveda. Considering the seasonality of the fruit rind, abundance of the leaves, and potential functional properties displayed by the leaves, this study was intended to develop functional foods incorporating garcinia leaf extract and assess their sensory, functional, and nutritional properties. Research Method: Herbal tea, herbal crackers, herbal appetizers and herbal confectionery incorporated with garcinia leaves were developed and assessed for their sensory qualities. As in functional properties, total polyphenol content, total antioxidant activity, and total flavonoid content of the products were measured while the proximate composition was analyzed to obtain basic nutritional composition. Findings: All the products were sensory accepted; with mean scores above, "3" from a 5-point hedonic scale in each attribute, while retaining the basic nutritional composition of their particular food categories. Each product reported significant amounts of polyphenols and flavonoids with remarkable antioxidant activity, whereas, the highest reported values were shown by Herbal tea, consisting of G. quaesita, P. guajava, C. verum and C. sinensis. Being comprised of direct herbal infusions as well as the synergetic effect of the herbal materials seems the potential factors behind these elevated functional properties. Research Limitations: The main research limitation was the limited accessibility to sensory panelists, raw materials, chemicals and laboratories due to the pandemic situation during the study period. Introduction: Garcinia atroviridis has been used for traditional medicines, healthy foods and tea. The chemical compositions and biological activities of fruit, stem bark and root have been widely studied. However, the phytochemical components and the biological activities in Garcinia atroviridis leaves (GAL) are limited. This research aims to study the phytochemical components and the stress resistance effects of GAL in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). Methods: To investigate the chemical components and antioxidant activities of GAL extract, the ethanol extract was characterized by liquid chromatographyquadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF MS) analysis and C. elegans was used to evaluate the effects of GAL extracts on longevity and stress resistance. Results and discussion: The results revealed that the ethanol extract of GAL possesses free radical scavenging activities. Furthermore, GAL extract increased the lifespan of C. elegans by 6.02%, 15.26%, and 12.75% at concentrations of 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL, respectively. GAL extract exhibited improved stress resistance under conditions of heat and hydrogen peroxide-induced stress. The survival rates of GAL extract-treated worms were significantly higher than those of untreated worms, and GAL extract reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Additionally, GAL extract treatment upregulated the expression of stress resistance-associated genes, including gst-4, sod-3, skn-1, and hsp16.2. GAL extract supplementation alleviated stress and enhanced longevity by inducing stress-related genes in C. elegans. The observed effects of GAL extracts may be attributed to the stimulation of oxidant enzymes mediated through DAF-16/FOXO and SKN-1/NRF2, as well as the enhancement of thermal defense in C. elegans. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the second leading cause of mortality globally. The increased concern for DM is due to the underlying complications accompanying hyperglycaemia, associated with oxidative stress and consequent inflammation. The investigation of safe and effective treatments for DM is necessary. In the present study, the cytotoxicity, phytochemical analysis, antioxidant capacity, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic effects in an aqueous extract of Garcinia livingstonei leaves were assessed. All tested extract concentrations showed no toxicity against C3A hepatocytes. Several phenolic compounds were identified using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS). The total polyphenol content was 100.9741 mg GAE/g, 16.7712 mg CE/g flavanols, and 2.3548 mg QE/g flavonols. The antioxidant capacity values were 253.4268 mg AAE/g, 192.232 mg TE/g, and 167.8724 mg TE/g for ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH), respectively. The plant extract significantly (p < 0.05) demonstrated anti-inflammatory and hypoglycaemic effects in a dose-dependent manner, with the α-glucosidase inhibition of the extract being higher (p < 0.05) than in the standard conventional drug (acarbose). The findings of this study revealed the potential of the constituents of G. livingstonei aqueous leaf extract in DM treatment. Uneven drying is the key drawback of a conventional multi-tray dryer. Therefore, an improved active solar dryer with and without integrated sensible heat storage (SHS) was proposed. A unique feature of this dryer is its movable walls from the sides of the dryer to transform it to an indirect or mixed-mode as and when necessary. Garcinia Pedunculata (GP) is a local seasonal medicinal fruit in Northeast India. Drying kinetics of GP, the dryer performance and economic analysis of dryer were evaluated in the indirect solar dryer without SHS (Exp. I), mixed-mode solar dryer without SHS (Exp. II), indirect solar dryer with SHS (Exp. III), mixed-mode solar dryer with SHS (Exp. IV), and open sun drying (OSD). The dryer's average efficiencies were 18.12%, 22.37%, 21.74%, and 24.46% for Exp. I, Exp. II, Exp. III, and Exp. IV, respectively. The moisture content of GP was reduced to 12.09% in wet basis (w.b.) from 87.99% (w.b.). The overall drying time for Exp. I, Exp. II, OSD, Exp. III and Exp. IV were 31, 26, 53, 28, and 10 h, respectively. From the eleven drying models, the Two-Term model was the best-fitted model for Exp. I, Exp. II, OSD and Exp. III, and Midilli and Kucuk model was for Exp. IV. The final product's fragrance and colour are better for Exp. IV. Developing this dryer for Exp. I, Exp. II, Exp. III and Exp. IV, the price required was around 25,000, 27,000, 26,000, and 28,000 INR (1 US$ = 74.57 INR), respectively, while the economic payback periods are 1.6 years, 0.9 year, 1.4 years, and 0.59 year, respectively. Native species from the Amazonia are still unknown or underutilized and few information about their chemical and biological properties are available in the literature. Among the underutilized plant species in the Amazonia, Garcinia macrophylla can be seen as a promising source of bioactive compounds with relevant biological properties. The stem bark and leaves were the main investigated plant parts, mainly concerning the antioxidant, antibacterial, cytotoxicity and antidiabetic properties. However, the bioactive compounds and biological properties of the edible fruits were not yet reported. Systematic investigations covering the Amazonia biome, concerning plants and vegetables as strategic resources are of paramount importance for the sustainable development of the forest. Therefore, this review gathered the available information in the literature concerning general aspects, chemical profile and biological properties of G. macrophylla, for the first time, which highlighted that systematic and robust in vitro and in vivo research, are still needed to elucidate the phytochemical profiles and associated relevant biological properties. This report describes the isolation and characterization of xanthones from Garcinia bancana Miq. and evaluates their antiplasmodial and anticancer activities. Macluraxanthone (1), isojacareubin (2), and gerontoxanthone C (3) were isolated from the stem bark of G. bancana Miq. for the first time. In silico molecular docking studies revealed the hydrogen bonding and steric interactions between xanthones (1–3) and PfLDH/VEGFR2. The in vitro antiplasmodial activity was assayed against the chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum strain 3D7 by the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) method. The anticancer evaluation was evaluated against the A549, MCF-7, HeLa, and B-16 cancer cell lines. Compounds (1) (IC50 8.45–16.71 μM) and (3) (IC50 9.69–14.86 μM) showed more potent anticancer activity than compound (2) (IC50 25.46–31.31 μM), as well for their antiplasmodial activity (4.28 μM, 5.52 μM, 11.45 μM). Morelloflavone and camboginol are bioactive compounds purified from Garcinia dulcis (GD), which has anti-inflammatory and antihypertensive properties. The objective of this study was to examine the cardiovascular protective effect of GD flower acetone extract in 2-kidney-1-clip (2K1C) hypertensive rats. Male Wistar rats underwent 2K1C or sham operation (SO) and were housed for 4 weeks. Each group of rats, then, was further divided into 2 subgroups receiving oral administration of either 50 mg/kg BW GD extract or corn oil (vehicle) daily for 4 weeks. Noninvasive blood pressure (BP) and body weight were measured weekly throughout the study. Subsequently, the invasive measurement of arterial BP and the heart rate were determined in all anesthetized rats. The baroreceptor reflex sensitivity (BRS) was investigated by injection of either phenylephrine or sodium nitroprusside for bradycardia or tachycardia response, respectively. Histological examination of the heart and thoracic aorta was also performed in order to investigate the general morphology and the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) expression. We found that the GD flower extract significantly diminished the BP and restored the impaired BRS. Moreover, it also decreased the TNF-α expression in the cardiac muscle and thoracic aorta of 2K1C when compared to the SO group. Garcinia L. is a pantropically distributed genus comprised of at least 250 species of shrubs and trees and has centers of diversity located in Africa/Madagascar, Australasia, and Southeast Asia. The genus is notable due to its extreme diversity of floral form, common presence in lowland tropical rainforests worldwide, and potential pharmacological value. Across its entire geographic range, Garcinia lacks a recent taxonomic revision, with the last genus-level taxonomic treatment of Garcinia conducted over 40 years ago. In order to provide an evolutionary-based framework for a revised infrageneric classification of the genus and to investigate in more detail the systematics of New Caledonian species, we conducted molecular phylogenetic analyses using DNA sequence data for the nuclear ITS region on all samples, and for three chloroplast intergenic spacers (psbM-trnD, trnQ-rps16 and rps16-trnK) on a subset of our overall sampling. Our phylogenetic analyses are the most comprehensive to date for the genus, containing 111 biogeographically and morphologically diverse Garcinia species. The analyses support a broad circumscription of Garcinia, including several previously segregated genera (e.g. Allanblackia, Clusianthemum, Ochrocarpos p.p., Pentaphalangium, Rheedia, and Tripetalum). We recovered nine major clades falling within two major lineages, and we delimit 11 sections. We discuss each of the clades, assign them sectional names, discuss their distinguishing morphological features, compare our taxonomic treatment with the most recent sectional treatment, list representative species, note geographic distribution, and highlight some questions that deserve future investigations. We propose nine new nomenclatural combinations, four new names, and three new lectotypes. In New Caledonia (NC), a total of ten, all endemic, species are recognized and were included in our phylogenetic analyses, with several replicates per species (with the exception of G. virgata and G. urceolata, represented by a single accession each). New Caledonian species were retrieved within three separate clades, respectively including 1) G. balansae; 2) G. comptonii, G. neglecta, G. urceolata, G. virgata; and 3) G. amplexicaulis, G. densiflora, G. pedicellata, G. puat, G. vieillardii. Within NC , the phylogenies did not support the distinction between a putative undescribed species and G. balansae. However, it confirmed the distinction between NC species and both G. vitiensis (found in Fiji and Vanuatu) and G. adinantha (found in Fiji), suggesting that all NC species should be considered as endemics. 3-demethyl-2-geranyl-4-prenylbellidifoline (DGP), a natural xanthone isolated from Garcinia achachairu, has previously demonstrated remarkable diuretic and renal protective actions. The present study expands its actions on the cardiovascular system by evaluating its vasorelaxant and blood pressure-lowering effects in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Aortic endothelium-intact (E+) preparations of SHRs pre-contracted by phenylephrine and exposed to cumulative concentrations of G. achachairu extract, fractions, and DGP exhibited a significant relaxation compared to vehicle-only exposed rings. The non-selective muscarinic receptor antagonist (atropine), the non-selective inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (L-NAME), as well as the inhibitor of soluble guanylate cyclase (ODQ) altogether avoided DGP-induced relaxation. Tetraethylammonium (small conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channel blocker), 4-aminopyridine (a voltage-dependent K+ channel blocker), and barium chloride (an influx-rectifying K+ channel blocker) significantly reduced DGP capacity to induce relaxation without the interference of glibenclamide (an ATP-sensitive inward rectifier 6.1 and 6.2 K+ channel blocker). Additionally, administration of DGP, 1 mg/kg i.v., decreased the mean, systolic, and diastolic arterial pressures, and the heart rate of SHRs. The natural xanthone DGP showed promising potential as an endothelium-dependent vasorelaxant, operating through the nitric oxide pathway and potassium channels, ultimately significantly reducing blood pressure in hypertensive rats. Garcinia indica Choisy is traditionally used to manage diabetes mellitus, also used in various herbal formulations, and is indicated as an insulin sensitizer. The present study investigates the hydroalcoholic extract of G. indica Choisy rind as an α-amylase inhibitor, followed by the identification of the probable lead hits via a computational approach. LC-MS analyse were carried out. In vitro assays for alpha amylase were performed at concentrations of G. indica ranging from (1000–125 µg/mL) and acarbose (25–1.56 µg/mL) with inhibition times ranging from 5th to 30th min. In silico study was performed based upon the bioactives traced from LC-MS data retrieved from the PubChem database and predicted for probable targets of diabetes mellitus, followed by a drug-likeness score, probable side effects, and an ADMET profile. In addition, molecular docking and the dynamics of the representative complex were explored using AutoDock Vina and Gromac. In vitro study revealed IC 50 values of 400.5, 526.07, 728.05, 792.7, 848.3, and 897.5 µg/mL and acarbose displayed IC 50 values of <1.56, 6.6, 10.46, 12.6, 14.14, and 15.24 µg/mL respectively. LC-MS analysis identified 17 bioactives, of which 13 showed positive druglikness; among them, 5 bioactives were predicted to modulate AMY2A. The gene set enrichment analysis revealed that AMY2A and gambogic acid possessed high edge counts, with the lowest binding energy of gambogic acid- AMY2A (-11.7 kcal/mol), followed by amentoflavone (-10.6 kcal/mol), volkensiflavone (-9.3 kcal/mol), fukugcide (-8.8 kcal/mol), and garcinol (-7.7 kcal/mol) when compared with acarbose- AMY2A (-7.7 kcal/mol), which also indicates high stability up to 100 ns in molecular simulation. Summary: Fruits of commercial Garcinia genus have been used for centuries in subtropic and tropic areas. However, large amounts of their seeds and included kernels are generally discarded as wastes or treated as low‐value agricultural products due to lack of appropriate processing technologies. The kernels have considerable values as sources of specialty fats and liposoluble bioactive compounds. Typical Garcinia seed fats for commercial purposes are mainly kokum (Garcinia indica) butter, mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) seed fat and yellow mangosteen (Garcinia xanthochymus). These fats contained special sn‐1,3‐disaturated‐2‐unsaturated triacylglycerols, especially StOSt, POSt, StLSt and PLSt (P, palmitic acid; St, stearic acid; O, oleic acid and L, linolic acid), which are quite different from the triacylglycerol structure in common vegetable oils. Their improved usages in chocolate fats, trans‐free shortenings, dressings, salad and cooking oils, oleogels and antioxidants were concluded in this review. The health benefits contributed by their functional micronutrients (e.g. tocopherols, phytosterols, polyphenols and flavonoids) were further discussed to expand their application in functional foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Incomplete muscle regeneration after severe injury can cause the formation of fibrotic tissue, which can impair muscle function and decrease quality of life. Myogenic cell culture studies have been utilized to analyze the effects of certain compounds on muscle cells. Garcinia binucao crude leaf extracts (GB) were tested on C2C12 cells to determine their effect on myoblast count and myotube formation in a dose-dependent manner. For myoblast count, C2C12 myoblasts were observed after 24 and 48 h of GB treatment. Based on the results, GB extracts did not confer cytotoxic effects, and precocious myotube formation was observed after 48 h of treatment. Ki67 expression was not statistically significant among treatment groups. For induction of differentiation assay, the myotube area - stained with May-Grünwald Giemsa - was examined at 1, 3, and 7 d post-treatment (dpt) and images were obtained and analyzed using ImageJ. For induction assay at 3 dpt, a higher myotube area was observed as the concentration of the extracts decreased. Concentrations of 0.781, 0.391, and 0.195 µg/mL showed significant differences compared to growth medium control when observed at 3 dpt (p < 0.05). There were also no observed significant differences in MyoD expression, a myoblast marker. The increased size of the myotube may be explained based on glucose consumption, which was examined by acquiring glucometer readings from spent cell culture media. The glucometer reading shows a statistically significant lower glucometer reading in the GB-treated group. These indicate that the extract may contain compounds that promote myoblast growth and increase myotube size. This study investigated the quality characteristics of pasteurized and thermosonicated bor-thekera (Garcinia pedunculata) juices (TSBTJs) during storage at 4 °C for 30 days. Various parameters, including pH, titratable acidity (TA), total soluble content (TSSs), antioxidant activity (AA), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), ascorbic acid content (AAC), cloudiness (CI) and browning indexes (BI), and microbial activity, were analyzed at regular intervals and compared with the quality parameters of fresh bor-thekera juice (FBTJ). A multi-layer artificial neural network (ANN) was employed to model and optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction of bor-thekera juice. The impacts of storage time, treatment time, and treatment temperature on the quality attributes were also explored. The TSBTJ demonstrated the maximum retention of nutritional attributes compared with the pasteurized bor-thekera juice (PBTJ). Additionally, the TSBTJ exhibited satisfactory results for microbiological activity, while the PBTJ showed the highest level of microbial inactivation. The designed ANN exhibited low mean squared error values and high R2 values for the training, testing, validation, and overall datasets, indicating a strong relationship between the actual and predicted results. The optimal extraction parameters generated by the ANN included a treatment time of 30 min, a frequency of 44 kHz, and a temperature of 40 °C. In conclusion, thermosonicated juices, particularly the TSBTJ, demonstrated enhanced nutritional characteristics, positioning them as valuable reservoirs of bioactive components suitable for incorporation in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The study underscores the efficacy of ANN as a predictive tool for assessing bor-thekera juice extraction efficiency. Moreover, the use of thermosonication emerged as a promising alternative to traditional thermal pasteurization methods for bor-thekera juice preservation, mitigating quality deterioration while augmenting the functional attributes of the juice. Garcinia dulcis and Garcinia forbesii King are native plants from Indonesia and have tremendous potential as a source of raw medicines based on local wisdom. However, scientific data for strengthening pharmaceuticals are still limited. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to strengthen and develop the potential of both plants using the approach of traditional medicine. This study aimed to explore the secondary metabolite composition and biological activity (antioxidant and antielastase) of both plants. Both samples were extracted using 70% ethanol and microwave-assisted extraction with a microwave power of 120 watts for 15 min. The extract obtained was then screened for phytochemicals using specific reagents. The total phenolic content (TPC) was determined using spectrophotometry with a 96-well microplate reader method. The total flavonoid content (TFC) was determined using the colorimetric method, whereas metabolite profiling analysis was conducted using the UPLC-QToF-MS/MS system. Meanwhile, biological activity was tested for antioxidant activity and antielastase as measured by a microplate reader 96-well spectrophotometry method at specific wavelengths. According to the results, G. dulcis and G. forbesii fruit peel extracts showed positive detection of particular secondary metabolites. TPC and TFC values were 13.98 ± 1.90 mg GAE/g and 10.33 ± 1.90 mg QE/g for G. dulcis and 11.98 ± 2.04 mgGAE/g and 1.96 ± 0.36 mgQE/g for G. forbesii. Metabolite profiling detected some compounds from G. dulcis, including ephedrannin B, hinokiflavone, mahuannin J, and candidate mass C9H12O8, and G. forbesii, including 5-Hydroxy-7,8,2'-trimethoxyflavone, lucialdehyde B, candidate mass C21H39NO4, candidate mass C14H10O6, and candidate mass C14H12O6. Meanwhile, the biological activities (antioxidant and antielastase) were 137.721 µg/mL and 108.893 µg/mL for G. dulcis and 481.948 µg/mL and 250.611 µg/mL for G. forbesii, respectively. Native multi-purpose tree species in West Africa, Cola nitida and Garcinia kola have the potential to advance agroforestry practices in the sub-region. There is limited information on the ecology of both species which are currently characterised by low yield (fruit). This study investigated the influences of vegetation type on the population structure and floral association of both species in Nigeria. Data were collected using a purposive sampling design. Dendrometric variables of all the subject trees were measured, and all plant species associated with the subject tree species were enumerated across their places of natural occurrence. A 3-parameter Weibull Distribution Function was used to describe both species' diameter and height structures. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. A total of 84 and 71 plant species were found accompanying G.kola and C. nitida, respectively, in both zones. The height and stem diameter distribution of the two species showed a bell-shape population structure, suggesting an unstable demographic pattern. The diameter distribution is skewed to the right, indicating the predominance of adult individuals. The height-diameter relationships show a monotonic increment. Background: Garcinia kola is recommended in African folk medicine for the treatment of diabetes and its associated complications. In this study, we investigated the effects of Garcinia biflavonoid 1 (GB1), an active chemical component of Garcinia kola, on blood glucose and lipid in db/db mice with type 2 diabetes. Methods: Db/db mice were divided into 4 groups: vehicle, low-dose GB1 (50 mg/kg), high-dose GB1 (100 mg/kg), and rosiglitazone, and treated for 4 weeks. Body weight, fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin tolerance test (ITT), hepatic glycogen, serum and liver biochemical parameters, and histological morphology of the pancreas, heart, and kidneys were evaluated. Results: GB1 significantly reduced FBG, the area under the curve value of OGTT and ITT, and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, increased the homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function, quantitative insulin sensitivity check index, and the level of hepatic glycogen. Lower triglyceride and free fatty acid level, and a lower triglyceride-glucose index were also observed in the GB1 groups. In addition, no significant changes in alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels, or in the histopathology of the pancreas, heart, or kidney were observed after GB1 treatment. Conclusion: These findings indicate that GB1 exerts an antidiabetic effect in db/db mice, by improving hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and lipid dysregulation without evidence of adverse reactions. Garcinia dulcis is a plant commonly used in traditional medicine in tropical regions. It has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-malaria properties. Despite its potential benefits, studies on its effectiveness as an antiviral are limited. This study investigated the antiviral properties of G. dulcis leaf extract against the JFH-1 strain genotype 2a as a treatment for Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). Huh7it-1 cells infected with the HCV genotype 2a strain JFH-1 were used to determine the antiviral effect of methanol extracts of G. dulcis leaves (GD-LE). GD-LE antiviral activity was investigated using a focus-forming assay for anti-HCV and 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay for cytotoxicity. A timeof-addition study of anti-HCV was also performed to determine the mode of action of GD-LE. The results showed that GD-LE inhibited HCV replication with an IC50 of 17.06 µg/mL without giving any toxicity to the cells. The mode-of-action of GDLE was found to inhibit HCV replication in the co-addition and post-infection stages. These findings suggest that GD-LE could be a promising candidate for anti-HCV treatment. Essential oils, a volatile mixture derived from plants, have shown a wide biological activity, and have been used as ancient remedies for the treatment of various diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the chemical composition and cytotoxicity of the essential oil obtained from Garcinia urophylla leaves collected from Malaysia. Eighteen components were identified using gas chromatography-flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which represent 99.9% of the essential oil. The major components were β-caryophyllene (56.2%), α-humulene (26.3%), and α-gurjunene (6.3%). The cytotoxicity of essential oil was evaluated using an MTT assay. The essential oil exhibited cytotoxicity against three cancer cell lines which are HepG2, MCF7, and A549 with the IC50 values of 71.5, 56.2, and 68.5 μg/mL, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the essential oil composition obtained from Garcinia urophylla, which may have implications on the pharmaceutical and therapeutic applications of Garcinia genus essential oils. Garcinia gummi-gutta (L.) Roxb. is a tropical tree crop widely gaining attention due to the plenteousness of hydroxycitric acid (HCA), known for its anti-obesity and appetite-reducing activity. The declining male population, coupled with sexual complexity and floral diversity in fruit bearer, are challenging for natural pollination and hence require conservation of the germplasm. The investigation in this study focused on reproductive characterization, resource allocation, reproductive success, and male functionality could better explain the existing sexual system and its mode of reproduction. Great diversity in floral color of G. gummi-gutta specimens ranging from sulphur-yellow to crimson red in hermaphrodite compared to yellow-shaded male flowers was noticed in South Western Ghats. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant variations in floral quantitative characters across the sexual forms. However, no direct association was evident with reproductive success explicitly across male and hermaphrodite flowers. The Student's t-test among hermaphrodite and male sex morphs unveiled a significant mean difference in pollen germination, and pollination was further defined with correlation analysis. The negative association of pollen germination with the female trait, viz., seed production, shows a trade-off to female reproductive fitness in hermaphrodite flowers. The androdiecious nature of the species is agreed upon the presence of fertile pollen grains by the hermaphrodite trees, and the report is the first of our knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herbal medicine treatment for Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is a promising alternative to common medical HCV treatments because it has low unwanted side effects and production costs. This study aimed to evaluate the methanol extract of Garcinia lattissima stem barks as an antiviral compound against strain JFH1 (HCV) genotype 2a. Garcinia lattissima stem bark methanolic extract (GL-SB) was added to Huh7it-1 cells infected with JFHI. Anti HCV activity was determined by Focus-forming unit (FFU) assay and the cytotoxicity activity was analyzed using the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay. The GL-SB showed its efficacy as the anti-HCV agent with a 50% cytotoxicity concentration (CC50) of 34.2 µg/mL and a 50% effective concentration (EC50) of 4.7 µg/mL. The co-addition and post-infection phases of GL-SB showed an anti-HCV activity, according to a time-of-addition investigation. A new indole diterpene, 26-dihydroxyaflavininyl acetate (1), along with five known analogs (2–6) were isolated from the liquid fermentation of Aspergillus flavus GZWMJZ-288, an endophyte from Garcinia multiflora. The structures of these compounds were identified through NMR, MS, chemical reaction, and X-ray diffraction experiments. Enzyme inhibition activity screening found that compounds 1, 4, and 6 have a good binding affinity with NPC1L1, among which compound 6 exhibited a stronger binding ability than ezetimibe at a concentration of 10 µM. Moreover, compound 5 showed inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase with an IC50 value of 29.22 ± 0.83 µM, which is 13 times stronger than that of acarbose. The results suggest that these aflavinine analogs may serve as lead compounds for the development of drugs targeting NPC1L1 and α-glucosidase. Dengue virus (DENV) is still global problem and infecting millions of people a year. This virus belongs to Flavivirus and consists of the structural and non-structural proteins including envelop (E), capsid (C), NS2B/NS3, and NS5. Garcinia atroviridis Griff. ex T. Anders is traditional plant that has broad potential as antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-cancer activities. However, the anti-DENV potential of this plant is uncertain. The objective of this research is to find out the potential of the phytochemical compounds of G. atroviridis as DENV antiviral drugs targeting E, C, NSB2/NS3, and NS5 proteins using molecular simulation approach. Sample retrieval was obtained from PubChem and RCSB PDB. Drug- likeness analysis has been assessed with Swiss ADME based on the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics aspects. Toxicity prediction was done by pkCSM webserver. PyRx was carried out to screen ligand-protein interaction virtually. Visualization of the best interaction was displayed by BIOVIA Discovery Studio. CABS-flex 2.0 version webserver was performed to predict stability interaction. Atroviridin was determined as the most promising as DENV antiviral to be tested by the wet laboratory approach. The aim of this study was to fabricate and characterize nanoemulsion-loaded Garcinia cowa leaf extract (GC) for use as pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical products. The GC nanoemulsions were prepared by ultrasonication method. Properties of the GC nanoemulsions were investigated, including morphology, particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, thermal properties, and stability. In addition, encapsulation efficiency, release study, antibacterial activity, antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory activity, and indirect cytotoxicity were investigated. The results showed that the particle size of GC nanoemulsions ranged between 66 and 71 nm, PDI ranged between 0.17 and 0.28, and zeta potential ranged between − 17 and − 10 mV. The cumulative released profiles of GC from GC1, GC2, and GC3 nanoemulsions showed the similar results. In addition, the GC nanoemulsions exhibited inhibition against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and showed good antioxidant activity. The GC nanoemulsions at concentrations of 0.19–0.39% v/v were non-toxic to NCTC clone 929 cells. The GC nanoemulsions could enhance GC into the cells and improve its efficiency for the drug delivery system. Thus, these GC nanoemulsions could be used in pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical products. Garcinia section Xanthochymus (Clusiaceae) is revised for Thailand with four native species, i.e., G. dulcis, G. nervosa, G. prainiana, and G. xanthochymus. All species are described with updated morphological descriptions, illustrations, and an identification key, together with notes on distributions, distribution maps, habitats and ecology, phenology, conservation assessments, etymology, vernacular names, uses, and specimens examined. Four taxa, G. andamanica, G. andamanica var. pubescens, G. cambodgiensis and G. vilersiana, are synonymized under G. dulcis, and two taxa, G. nervosa var. pubescens and G. spectabilis, are newly synonymized under G. nervosa. Nine names are lectotypified: G. dulcis and its associated synonyms (G. cambodgiensis and G. vilersiana), G. nervosa and its associated synonyms (G. andersonii, G. nervosa var. pubescens, and G. spectabilis), G. prainiana, and G. xanthochymus. The fruit-bearing medicinal tree, Garcinia morella, grows in the tropical rain forests of India's Western Ghats, Indo-Chinese Himalayan regions and Sri Lanka. Its fruit rinds are used as a garnish and in seasoning during food preparation. In order to genetically exploit it and assess diversity, development of microsatellite markers was attempted. We partially sequenced genomic DNA using the Illumina Hiseq 2000 platform and examined sequence data for microsatellite loci. We obtained high-quality 10653 Mbp data and was assembled into 1613263 contigs. A total of 121199 SSRs were discovered, Di nucleotide repeats were predominant (42.5%), followed by mono and tri nucleotide repeats (30.4 and 7.9%, respectively). We were able to design primers for 52901 microsatellites. Genetic analysis of 48 SSR loci, showed PIC values ranging from 0.067 to 0.939 with a mean value of 0.7547. The allele per locus ranged from 2 to 24 with a mean of 13. These microsatellite markers can be employed for genetic diversity analysis, molecular characterization and mapping different traits. Garcinia cambogia extract (GCE) is a popular weight-loss supplement that also lowers plasma triglyceride (TG) levels. We hypothesized that GCE-mediated inhibition of ATP citrate lyase and thereby hepatic TG production could lead to compensatory mechanisms, including increased hepatic TG uptake via lipoprotein receptors. GCE (20 mg/day) administered 40 days orally to female C57BL/6Rj mice on a standard chow diet led to a decrease in both plasma fasting and post-prandial TG-rich lipoprotein levels, but with no significant change in body weight gain. Lipolysis stimulated lipoprotein receptor (LSR) protein levels, but not those of LDL-receptor, were increased as compared to controls. Mouse Hepa1-6 cells treated with the GCE active ingredient, hydroxycitrate, also led to increased LSR protein levels. Hepatic total cholesterol, TG, and muscle TG contents were higher in GCE-treated animals as compared to controls, whereas adipose TG levels were unchanged. LSR and LDL-receptor protein levels were correlated with liver total cholesterol, but only LDL-receptor was associated with liver TG. These results show that GCE treatment in mice on a standard chow diet led to significantly increased liver and muscle lipids, with no significant change in adipose tissue TG levels, which should be considered in the long-term use of GCE. Garcinia livingstonei T. Anderson, also referred to as African or Lowveld mangosteen, is a medicinal plant belonging to the Clusiaceae family and is used in traditional medicine to treat variety of diseases including diabetes, parasitic infections, microbial infections, and other ailments. This review provides an overview of this medicinal plant by highlighting its traditional applications, phytochemical properties, pharmacological activities, and toxicity, in addition to offering guidance for future G. livingstonei studies. These bioactivities include antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antiviral, and antiproliferative activities. The findings of this work reveal that the pharmacological activities of G. livingstonei crude extracts and bioactive compounds confirm the diversified use, and the effectiveness of G. livingstonei leaves, stem, bark, and fruits in the traditional remedies of many diseases. To date, about 38 secondary metabolites have been isolated from the different parts of this plant, with xanthones and biflavonoids being particularly prominent. Pharmacological and chemical research suggests that G. livingstonei contains a variety of bioactive compounds, which is worthy of comprehensive and in-depth research. Nevertheless, animal toxicological examinations and efficacy studies are still required to conclusively validate the traditional uses and in vitro pharmacological activities. The environment in which plants are inserted offers numerous stimuli that can influence plant ecophysiology and metabolism. Garcinia brasiliensis is a plant species of high interest for secondary metabolites extraction, however the comprehension about its behavior in response to environmental stimuli is still scarce. Thus, this study aimed to identify the influence of seasonality on the ecophysiology, biochemistry and anatomy of G. brasiliensis, aiming to contribute for the preservation and conservation of native populations and the propagation of this species. Evaluations were carried out under field conditions on six-year-old adult plants, in four replications over four months of the year (May, September, November and February). The evaluations were carried out in the middle third of the canopy, in fully expanded leaves. Gas exchange, chlorophyll "a" fluorescence, relative chlorophyll content, leaf water potential, carbohydrate, protein and amino acid content, and leaf anatomy were assessed. Gas exchange and production of carbohydrates and proteins were higher in November, when there was the highest rainfall rate. The maximum efficiency of the photochemical process in PSII was higher in February. Seasonality influences gas exchange, chlorophyll "a" fluorescence, production of primary metabolites and the nutritional status of G. brasiliensis plants. Anatomical changes are the least pronounced due to seasonal variations.
