1. Identification of prognostic factors for survival in patients with metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma in a Mexican population

Abstract

Introduction and aims: Gastric adenocarcinoma is among the high-ranking tumors, with respect to frequency and mortality, worldwide. The inflammatory process and immune system activity are associated with oncologic control. Our aim was to identify whether the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and other variables are prognostic factors for survival in patients with metastatic gastric cancer in a Mexican population. Material and methods: Patients diagnosed with metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma, hospitalized within the time frame of December 2011 to 2021, were analyzed. The NLR, PLR, and albumin and hemoglobin levels obtained from blood samples were calculated. Functional status (ECOG and Karnofsky), sex, histology, and the presence of signet ring cells were also considered possible prognostic factors. Each factor’s prognostic value for overall survival was determined through univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: The study included 956 patients diagnosed with metastatic gastric cancer, of whom 494 (51.7%) were men and 462 (48.3%) were women. The main histologic finding was diffuse adenocarcinoma (n = 619, 64.7%), followed by intestinal adenocarcinoma (n = 293, 30.6%), and the presence of signet ring cells was found in 659 (68.9%) patients. Resumen: Introducción y objetivos: El adenocarcinoma gástrico se ubica entre las neoplasias malignas con mayor frecuencia y mortalidad en el mundo. Se ha observado que el proceso inflamatorio y la actividad del sistema inmunológico están asociados al control oncológico. Nuestro objetivo es identificar si el índice neutrófilo/linfocito (INL), el índice plaqueta/linfocito (IPL) y otros factores son pronósticos para supervivencia en pacientes con cáncer gástrico metastásico en nuestra población. Material y métodos: Pacientes con diagnóstico de adenocarcinoma gástrico metastásico, admitidos de diciembre de 2011 a 2021. A partir de una muestra de sangre al ingreso se calculó el INL, el IPL, la albúmina y la hemoglobina. Además, se consideró el estado funcional (ECOG y Karnofsky), el sexo, la histología y la presencia de células en anillo de sello como otros factores que pudieran ser pronósticos. Por medio de un análisis univariado y multivariado se determinó el valor pronóstico de cada factor para supervivencia global. Resultados: Se incluyeron 956 pacientes con diagnóstico de cáncer gástrico metastásico, 494 (51.7%) fueron hombres y 462 (48.3%) mujeres; la principal histología fue el adenocarcinoma difuso (619; 64.7%), seguido por el adenocarcinoma intestinal (293; 30.6%), y del total de pacientes, 659 (68.9%) tuvieron presencia de células en anillo de sello. Abstract

Maraging steels have attracted the attention of the injection molding industry, mainly due to their mechanical properties. However, the use of these steels for complex inserts is still a challenge, given the limitations of conventional subtractive technologies. In this context, additive manufacturing technologies, especially Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), arise as a solution for the manufacture of maraging steel parts with innovative designs. In this study, 18Ni300 maraging steel lattice structures with different architectures were designed and manufactured via Selective Laser Melting (SLM), targeting mold vents for gas escape during injection molding. Three types of structures, simple cubic (SC), body-centered cubic (BCC), and gyroid (G), with different dimensions were produced, and their mechanical performance under compression (prior and after aging treatment) and gas permeability were investigated. The produced structures displayed a first maximum compressive strength from 54.3 to 251.5 MPa and an absorbed energy (up to 0.5 strain) between 34.8 and 300.6 MJ/m3. After aging, these properties increased, with the first maximum compressive strength ranging from 93.0 to 453.3 MPa and the absorbed energy ranging from 34.8 to 300.6 MJ/m3. The SC structures’ permeability was found to be between 4.9 × 10−11 and 2.0 × 10−10 m2, while for the BCC structures, it was between 2.2 × 10−11 and 1.2 × 10−10 m2. The gyroid structures’ permeability ranged from 6.7 × 10−11 to 1.6 × 10−10 m2. This study shows that a tailored permeability can be attained through the design of AM lattice structures, via different architectures, that assure distinct mechanical properties.

Abstract

In this paper we describe the characterization at the protein level of αS1-casein I RV allele discovered in Romanian Grey Steppe Cattle Moldavian variety, an autochthon Bos Taurus Primigenius breed belonging Grey cattle family. In order to identify the aminoacid/s substitution/s, responsible/s for the appearance of this new αS1 variant, milk samples, collected from 2 cows previously identified as carriers of mutant αS1 allele in heterozygous condition (BIRV, CIRV) and 2 reference samples (BB,CC), were purified by RP-HPLC. After purification, αS1-casein fraction collected from each sample was submitted to hydrolysis and tryptic hydrolysates were analyzed by mass spectrometry (MALDI-Tof and Orbitrap). The only possible substitution found is concerning the glutamine (Q) residue codified by codons from exons 8, 9 or 11. This is under study also at DNA level. This discovery could clarify the phylogenetic relationships between Romanian Grey Steppe Cattle, Moldavian Variety (autochthon Bos Taurus Primigenius) and their cousins from Africa and Asia.

Abstract

The CloudRoots field experiment was designed to obtain a comprehensive observational dataset that includes soil, plant, and atmospheric variables to investigate the interaction between a heterogeneous land surface and its overlying atmospheric boundary layer at the sub-hourly and sub-kilometre scale. Our findings demonstrate the need to include measurements at leaf level to better understand the relations between stomatal aperture and evapotranspiration (ET) during the growing season at the diurnal scale. Based on these observations, we obtain accurate parameters for the mechanistic representation of photosynthesis and stomatal aperture. Once the new parameters are implemented, the model reproduces the stomatal leaf conductance and the leaf-level photosynthesis satisfactorily. At the canopy scale, we find a consistent diurnal pattern on the contributions of plant transpiration and soil evaporation using different measurement techniques. From highly resolved vertical profile measurements of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other state variables, we infer a profile of the CO2 assimilation in the canopy with non-linear variations with height. Observations taken with a laser scintillometer allow us to quantify the non-steadiness of the surface turbulent fluxes during the rapid changes driven by perturbation of photosynthetically active radiation by cloud flecks. More specifically, we find 2 min delays between the cloud radiation perturbation and ET. To study the relevance of advection and surface heterogeneity for the land–atmosphere interaction, we employ a coupled surface–atmospheric conceptual model that integrates the surface and upper-air observations made at different scales from leaf to the landscape. At the landscape scale, we calculate a composite sensible heat flux by weighting measured fluxes with two different land use categories, which is consistent with the diurnal evolution of the boundary layer depth. Using sun-induced fluorescence measurements, we also quantify the spatial variability of ET and find large variations at the sub-kilometre scale around the CloudRoots site. Our study shows that throughout the entire growing season, the wide variations in stomatal opening and photosynthesis lead to large diurnal variations of plant transpiration at the leaf, plant, canopy, and landscape scales. Integrating different advanced instrumental techniques with modelling also enables us to determine variations of ET that depend on the scale where the measurement were taken and on the plant growing stage.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. COVID-19 affected close to 2 million persons worldwide in fewer than 4 months, after the report of the first cases in China in December 2019. The relation of the disease caused by SARS-Cov-2 to immunosuppressive treatment used in different gastrointestinal disorders is uncertain, resulting in debate with regard to suspending immunosuppressive therapy to improve infection outcome. Said suspension implies the inherent risk for graft rejection or autoimmune disease exacerbation that can potentially worsen the course of the infection. Based on the presently available evidence, a treatment stance has been established for patients with gastrointestinal diseases that require immunosuppressive therapy. Resumen: La enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) es causada por el virus de Síndrome Respiratorio Agudo Grave - Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID 19 afectó cerca de 2 millones de personas en todo el mundo en menos de 4 meses posterior al reporte de los primeros casos en China en diciembre 2019. Multi-material Ti6Al4V cellular structures impregnated with 45S5 bioactive glass were designed and produced using Selective Laser Melting (SLM), an additive manufacturing technique, combined with Press and Sintering focusing on load bearing components like hip implants. These structures were designed to combine Ti6Al4V mechanical properties and promote bone ingrowth into the structure as the bioactive material (45S5) is being absorbed and replaced by newly formed bone.The influence of these structures design on some of the physical and chemical aspects that drive cellular response was assessed. Roughness, wettability, bioactive glass quantity and quality on the structures after processing and the pH measured during cell culture (as a consequence of bioactive glass dissolution) were evaluated and correlated with cellular viability, cellular distribution, morphology and proliferation on the surface and inside the structures. Les acteurs des filières laitières bovine, caprine et ovine françaises se sont regroupés dans le programme PhénoFinlait autour d’un but commun : caractériser la composition du lait en Acides Gras (AG) et protéines afin de la maîtriser. La quantification des AG et des protéines devait être possible à grande échelle et à moindre coût avant d’identifier des leviers permettant d’adapter cette composition à la demande. PhénoFinlait s’est organisé autour de trois objectifs : i) caractériser précisément la composition du lait, ii) phénotyper et génotyper une large population de femelles sur l’ensemble du territoire français et iii)identifier les leviers génétiques et alimentairespermettant de maîtriser cette composition. La spectrométrie dans le Moyen InfraRouge (MIR) a été choisie comme méthode de quantification à haut débit des composants du lait. Elle permet la quantification précise en routine de 15 à 27 AG, des quatre caséines et des deux protéines majeures du lactosérum. Une collecte de données de grande ampleur a été mise en œuvre dans plus de 1 500 élevages bovins, caprins et ovins. Les données de production laitière, les spectres MIR du lait, les informations sur le stade physiologique des femelles et sur la composition de l’alimentation des troupeaux ont été recueillies. Plus de 12 000 vaches, chèvres et brebis ont été génotypées. Finalement, plus de 800 000 données représentatives des situations de l’élevage français ont été stockées dans une base de données destinée à l’étude du déterminisme génétique de la composition en AG et en protéines du lait, et des facteurs d’élevage l’influençant.

Neste artigo apresenta-se um programa de prevenção do abuso sexual implementado na Casa Pia de Lisboa e respectiva avaliação e discutem-se, ainda, critérios para a avaliação de programas. No estudo de avaliação utilizou-se um design longitudinal quantitativo, por questionário, com dois momentos, pré e pós-teste, com seis meses de intervalo entre si. Os participantes (N = 188), do 3º ao 6º ano, foram distribuídos aleatoriamente por grupos controlo e experimental, respondendo a um conjunto de questionários considerados adequados para a avaliação das principais competências treinadas no programa. Os grupos não se mostraram diferentes entre o início e o final da intervenção, mas o papel do colégio e o maior número de sessões contribuíram significativamente para o aumento das competências sócio-emocionais dos jovens. Por fim, discutem-se aspectos da aplicação do programa essenciais para a compreensão dos resultados encontrados e fazem-se recomendações sobre práticas de implementação do programa que optimizem a sua eficácia.

Abstract

Flower flies (Diptera: Syrphidae) are one of the most species-rich dipteran families and provide important ecosystem services such as pollination, biological control of pests, recycling of organic matter and redistributions of essential nutrients. Flower fly adults generally feed on pollen and nectar, but their larval feeding habits are strikingly diverse. In the present study, high-throughput sequencing was used to capture and enrich phylogenetically and evolutionary informative exonic regions. With the help of the baitfisher software, we developed a new bait kit (SYRPHIDAE1.0) to target 1945 CDS regions belonging to 1312 orthologous genes. This new bait kit was successfully used to exon capture the targeted loci in 121 flower fly species across the different subfamilies of Syrphidae. We analysed different amino acid and nucleotide data sets (1302 loci and 154 loci) with maximum likelihood and multispecies coalescent models. Our analyses yielded highly supported similar topologies, although the degree of the SRH (global stationarity, reversibility and homogeneity) conditions varied greatly between amino acid and nucleotide data sets. The sisterhood of subfamilies Pipizinae and Syrphinae is supported in all our analyses, confirming a common origin of taxa feeding on soft-bodied arthropods. Based on our results, we define Syrphini stat.rev. to include the genera Toxomerus and Paragus. Our divergence estimate analyses with beast inferred the origin of the Syrphidae in the Lower Cretaceous (125.5-98.5 Ma) and the diversification of predatory flower flies around the K-Pg boundary (70.61-54.4 Ma), coinciding with the rise and diversification of their prey.

Electrochemical impedance study determined that the resistance to polarization of composite rises with increases in the amount of Al2TiO5 and with the sintering time.

20. Production of Cement Based on Calcium Aluminate by Means of Solid State Reactions

Abstract

Through powder techniques and in situ solid state reactions, a refractory cement CaAl2O4-based was fabricated, using CaCO3 extracted from chicken eggshells and Al as precursor materials. To reduce the particle size and achieve a homogeneous mixture, the powders were subjected to high-energy milling in a planetary mill. The powders resulting from the grinding were compacted to form cylindrical tablets. These samples were pressureless sintered in air. A particle size distribution analysis indicates that they were obtained from the grinding particles ranging in size from nanometers to 2 microns. Differential thermal analysis indicates that the decomposition of CaCO3 begins at 953 K and ends at 1073 K, a situation confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, the latter also indicating that the formation of the CaAl2O4 crystalline phase is completed at 1773 K. The microstructure observed by scanning electron microscope shows equiaxial grains in the form of flakes and sizes from 1 to 2 microns. The average density and hardness of the material was 3.08 g/cm3 and 430 HV, respectively. Significant advancements in various research and technological fields have contributed to remarkable findings on the physiological dynamics of the human body. To more closely mimic the complex physiological environment, research has moved from two-dimensional (2D) culture systems to more sophisticated three-dimensional (3D) dynamic cultures. Unlike bioreactors or microfluidic-based culture models, cells are typically seeded on polymeric substrates or incorporated into 3D constructs which are mechanically stimulated to investigate cell response to mechanical stresses, such as tensile or compressive. This review focuses on the working principles of mechanical stimulation devices currently available on the market or custom-built by research groups or protected by patents and highlights the main features still open to improvement. 24. Circulating exosomes from Alzheimer’s disease suppress VE-cadherin expression and induce barrier dysfunction in recipient brain microvascular endothelial cell

Abstract

BackgroundBlood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown is a component of the progression and pathology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). BBB dysfunction is primarily caused by reduced or disorganized tight junction or adherens junction proteins of brain microvascular endothelial cell (BMEC). While there is growing evidence of tight junction disruption in BMECs in AD, the functional role of adherens junctions during BBB dysfunction in AD remains unknown. Exosomes secreted from senescent cells have unique characteristics and contribute to modulating the phenotype of recipient cells. However, it remains unknown if and how these exosomes cause BMEC dysfunction in AD.ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate the potential roles of AD circulating exosomes and their RNA cargos in brain endothelial dysfunction in AD.MethodsWe isolated exosomes from sera of five cases of AD compared with age- and sex-matched cognitively normal controls using size-exclusion chromatography technology. We validated the qualities and particle sizes of isolated exosomes with nanoparticle tracking analysis and atomic force microscopy. We measured the biomechanical natures of the endothelial barrier of BMECs, the lateral binding forces between live BMECs, using fluidic force miscopy. We visualized the paracellular expressions of the key adherens junction protein VE-cadherin in BMEC cultures and a 3D BBB model that employs primary human BMECs and pericytes with immunostaining and evaluated them using confocal microscopy. We also examined the VE-cadherin signal in brain tissues from five cases of AD and five age- and sex-matched cognitively normal controls.ResultsWe found that circulating exosomes from AD patients suppress the paracellular expression levels of VE-cadherin and impair the barrier function of recipient BMECs. Immunostaining analysis showed that AD circulating exosomes damage VE-cadherin integrity in a 3D model of microvascular tubule formation. We found that circulating exosomes in AD weaken the BBB depending on the RNA cargos. In parallel, we observed that microvascular VE-cadherin expression is diminished in AD brains compared to normal controls.ConclusionUsingin vitroandex vivomodels, our study illustrates that circulating exosomes from AD patients play a significant role in mediating the damage effect on adherens junction of recipient BMEC of the BBB in an exosomal RNA-dependent manner. This suggests a novel mechanism of peripheral senescent exosomes for AD risk.

25. Physics implications of a combined analysis of COHERENT CsI and LAr data

Abstract

The observation of coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering has opened the window to many physics opportunities. This process has been measured by the COHERENT Collaboration using two different targets, first CsI and then argon. Recently, the COHERENT Collaboration has updated the CsI data analysis with a higher statistics and an improved understanding of systematics. Here we perform a detailed statistical analysis of the full CsI data and combine it with the previous argon result. We discuss a vast array of implications, from tests of the Standard Model to new physics probes. In our analyses we take into account experimental uncertainties associated to the efficiency as well as the timing distribution of neutrino fluxes, making our results rather robust. In particular, we update previous measurements of the weak mixing angle and the neutron root mean square charge radius for CsI and argon. We also update the constraints on new physics scenarios including neutrino nonstandard interactions and the most general case of neutrino generalized interactions, as well as the possibility of light mediators. Finally, constraints on neutrino electromagnetic properties are also examined, including the conversion to sterile neutrino states. In many cases, the inclusion of the recent CsI data leads to a dramatic improvement of bounds., 43 pages, 18 Figures

Abstract

This paper showcases the first exhaustive literature review on the public–private–people partnership (4P), as a concept on its own, its backstory, its proposed definitions, and multiple interpretations throughout the last fifteen years. Beyond mapping the discussion on what does the extra ‘P’—the people—component of these partnerships really mean, and how it is understood by scholars and the traditional public and private partners alike, this work also aims to be the starting point for new research avenues, such as corporate–community cooperation, and urban regeneration through different land use and ownership schemes. Hence, the discussion spreads onto analyzing how the concept is approached from different professional fields—for its inherent interdisciplinarity, despite the perceived scarcity of related literature available—but also onto the ambivalence stemming from the nature of the ‘people’ component itself, its functions, and the relationships—formal or informal—that should be established. Finally, the authors go on to critically place the concept within the current urban and real estate trends in both, the Global North and South, while identifying further gaps in the current literature, for example: given today’s critical housing supply and affordability situations, how to get the public and private sectors interested in partnering with people in a more direct way? What needs to be done? What needs to be further researched?

Abstract

Background: Despite advances in surgery and pharmacotherapy, there remains significant residual ischemic risk after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Methods: In REDUCE-IT (Reduction of Cardiovascular Events With Icosapent Ethyl–Intervention Trial), a multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial, statin-treated patients with controlled low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and mild to moderate hypertriglyceridemia were randomized to 4 g daily of icosapent ethyl or placebo. They experienced a 25% reduction in risk of a primary efficacy end point (composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization, or hospitalization for unstable angina) and a 26% reduction in risk of a key secondary efficacy end point (composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke) when compared with placebo. The current analysis reports on the subgroup of patients from the trial with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting. Results: Of the 8179 patients randomized in REDUCE-IT, a total of 1837 (22.5%) had a history of coronary artery bypass grafting, with 897 patients randomized to icosapent ethyl and 940 to placebo. Baseline characteristics were similar between treatment groups. Randomization to icosapent ethyl was associated with a significant reduction in the primary end point (hazard ratio [HR], 0.76 [95% CI, 0.63–0.92]; P =0.004), in the key secondary end point (HR, 0.69 [95% CI, 0.56–0.87]; P =0.001), and in total (first plus subsequent or recurrent) ischemic events (rate ratio, 0.64 [95% CI, 0.50–0.81]; P =0.0002) compared with placebo. This yielded an absolute risk reduction of 6.2% (95% CI, 2.3%–10.2%) in first events, with a number needed to treat of 16 (95% CI, 10–44) during a median follow-up time of 4.8 years. Safety findings were similar to the overall study: beyond an increased rate of atrial fibrillation/flutter requiring hospitalization for at least 24 hours (5.0% vs 3.1%; P =0.03) and a nonsignificant increase in bleeding, occurrences of adverse events were comparable between groups. Conclusions: In REDUCE-IT patients with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting, treatment with icosapent ethyl was associated with significant reductions in first and recurrent ischemic events. 34. Global knowledge? Cooperation and conflict in the post-hegemonic era: Facing the pandemic crisis

Abstract

In recent decades, we have witnessed the consolidation of the knowledge society, based on a process of globalization, which promotes the consolidation of the knowledge economy as an emerging paradigm, as well as promoting new dynamics of scientific cooperation, especially from the European Union to the rest of the world. Agreements, summits, and a network of science diplomacy have been set up reflecting the impact of knowledge on new development models. From this process, conceived as a catalyst for value chains based on knowledge intensity, it is possible to glimpse new power conflicts related to other recent conflicts for economic and political hegemony on a global scale. This study aims to analyze countries’ behavior vis-à-vis the global threat of the COVID 19 pandemic, based on the correlation between their ability to face it and their levels of knowledge-based development as a differentiating element in terms of vulnerability. The results show a process where scientific cooperation has given way to a field of geopolitical competition between the actors of the international system, affecting their levels of vulnerability to global threats. Keywords: knowledge economy, globalization, interdependence, Global Knowledge Index, cluster analysis, COVID-19, pandemic En las últimas décadas, hemos asistido al afianzamiento de la sociedad del conocimiento, a partir de un proceso de globalización, que propicia la consolidación de la economía del conocimiento como paradigma emergente, impulsando nuevas dinámicas de cooperación científica, especialmente desde la Unión Europea, hacia el resto del mundo. Se han configurado acuerdos, cumbres y un entramado de diplomacia científica que refleja el impacto del conocimiento en los nuevos modelos de desarrollo. A partir de dicho proceso, concebido como un catalizador para las cadenas de valor basadas en intensidad de conocimiento, es posible vislumbrar nuevos conflictos de poder relacionados con otros conflictos recientes por la hegemonía económica y política a escala global. Este estudio se propone analizar el comportamiento de los países ante la amenaza global de la pandemia de COVID 19, a partir de la correlación entre su capacidad de enfrentarla, y sus niveles de desarrollo basado en conocimiento, como elemento diferenciador en términos de vulnerabilidad. Los resultados evidencian un proceso donde la cooperación científica ha dado paso a un terreno de competencia geopolítica entre los actores del sistema internacional, impactando en sus niveles de vulnerabilidad ante amenazas globales. Abstract

BackgroundThe evidence supporting a starting dose of 2 g/day of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in combination with tacrolimus (TAC) in renal transplant (RT) is still limited but maintaining the dose of less than 2g could result in worse clinical outcomes in terms of acute rejection (AR).Research QuestionThis study’s aim was to determine the association between AR, infectious and non-infectious complications after RT with the dose of 1.5gvs. 2g of MMF.DesignA prospective cohort was performed with a 12-month follow-up in recipients of RT from living donors with low doses of MMF (1.5 g/day) or use of standard dosage (2 g/day). The association between adverse effects and complications and doses of MMF were examined in Cox proportional hazard models and survival free of AR, infectious diseases, and non-infectious complications was evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier test.ResultsAt the end of the follow-up, the incidence of infectious diseases was 52%vs. 50% (p=0.71) and AR was 5%vs. 5% (p=0.86), respectively. Survival free of GI complications requiring medical attention was higher in the low dose group compared to the standard dose (88%vs. 45%, respectively;pDiscussionThe use of 1.5 g/day of MMF is safe in Mexican population with RT from living donors without increasing the risk of AR, and it confers a reduction of adverse events.

Abstract

Alumina-based composites reinforced with titanium were manufactured by powder techniques. Characterizations indicate that titanium content affects densification which in turn causes positive effects on hardness and toughness. Microstructure presents grains of irregular shape and small sizes. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicates that additions of titanium on Al2O3 enhance its corrosion resistance.

43. Evaluación de estándares pedagógicos y didácticos disciplinares de futuros profesores de Matemáticas en Chile. ¿Construyendo un profesorado endeudado?

Abstract

Este artículo muestra los resultados de la prueba END FID que rindieron 1691 estudiantes durante los años 2017, 2018 y 2019 (612, 597 y 482 estudiantes respectivamente). La prueba END FID midió 3 temas de conocimientos pedagógicos: 1) aprendizaje y desarrollo de los estudiantes de educación media, 2) diseño e implementación de la enseñanza y 3) la profesión docente y el sistema educacional chileno. Además, midió 5 temas didácticos disciplinares: 1) sistemas numéricos y álgebra, 2) cálculo, 3) estructuras algebraicas, 4) geometría, y 5) datos y azar. Los datos se analizaron utilizando análisis descriptivo de distribución, según variables temporales: año en que se rindió y tiempo de formación; institucionales: modalidad de estudio, tipo de administración de la universidad; territoriales: región donde se imparte la carrera, y socioeconómica: dependencia administrativa del colegio donde estudió la futura o futuro profesor. Los resultados muestran que, si se asume que esta evaluación mide lo que pretende medir, independiente de la variable que se analice, una proporción importante de quienes serán profesores cuentan con conocimientos pedagógicos y didácticos descendidos, es decir, los profesores ingresan al sistema "debiendo" conocimientos. Otra posibilidad es cuestionar poner en tela de juicio instrumento y a la entidad evaluadora que hasta el momento está al debe en cuanto a la información entregada.

44. Perceptions of Civil Engineers on the Development and Adoption of AI in the Peruvian Public Sector

Abstract

Artificial intelligence is an emerging technology that has begun to be adopted in different organizations throughout the world, and public works cannot be left behind. The chapter discusses the measurement of perceptions of transparency and efficiency through a global approach to exploratory questions related to the advances and acceptance of artificial intelligence (AI). The objective is to explore the potential of AI to monitor transparency and efficiency in Peruvian public works executing units. Through a survey addressed to civil engineers related to public works and its potential link to AI, this chapter also explores technological frameworks related to AI. They show a high acceptance of AI in the execution stage of the work. In the matter of capacities and behaviors, they accept the substitution of the construction monitor (coordinator), the supervisor, and the resident (in that order) by the AI. The document ends with some lessons and recommendations for researchers and professionals interested in the area of study.

Abstract

Larvae of Copestylum tigrinum Ricarte & Hancock in Ricarte et al. 2015 were reared from fallen fruits of Casearia combaymensis Tul. (Salicaceae) collected in the Brazilian Amazon (Amazonas, Brazil). This is the first record of this species in mainland South America and Brazil, and the first record of a fruit of Salicaceae as a food substrate for the larvae of C. tigrinum. The female and its genitalia are described for the first time, the puparium is redescribed and some aspects of the biology of Copestylum are discussed.
