Abstract

We have studied the vector to pseudoscalar conversion decay ϕ→ηe+e−, with η→π0π0π0, with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE. The data set of 1.7 fb−1 of e+e− collisions at s∼Mϕ contains a clear conversion decay signal of ∼31,000 events from which we measured a value of BR(ϕ→ηe+e−)=(1.075±0.007±0.038)×10−4. The same sample is used to determine the transition form factor by a fit to the e+e− invariant mass spectrum, obtaining bϕη=(1.28±0.10−0.08+0.09) GeV−2, that improves by a factor of five the precision of the previous measurement and is in good agreement with VMD expectations. Abstract

The absolute branching ratio of the K+→π+π−π+(γ) decay, inclusive of final-state radiation, has been measured using ∼17 million tagged K+ mesons collected with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE, the Frascati ϕ-factory. The result is:BR(K+→π+π−π+(γ))=0.05565±0.00031stat±0.00025syst a factor ≃ 5 more precise with respect to the previous result. Abstract

Abstract

The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in particle physics and a persistent discrepancy of about 3 σ between standard model (SM) prediction and the experimental measurement has been observed. The leading order contribution aμhlo is actually the main source of uncertainty in the theoretical evaluation of the muon anomaly. It is obtained by a dispersion integral using the precision measurement of hadronic cross section. The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ−factory in Frascati was the first to exploit Initial State Radiation (ISR) processes to obtain the e+e−→π+π−(γ) cross section below 1 GeV, that accounts for most (70%) of the leading order contribution to the muon anomaly. In year 2005 and 2008 the KLOE-collaboration has published two measurements of the π+π− cross section with the photon in the initial state emitted at small angle, and an independent measurement with the photon emitted at large angle was finalized in year 2011. These measurements were normalized using luminosity from Bhabha. In the last years, a new analysis of KLOE data has been performed for obtaining the pion form factor directly from the bin-by-bin π+π−γ to μ+μ−γ ratio. We present the results of this new measurement, showing the comparison with our previous measurements, and its impact on the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

Abstract

We have carried out a new direct search for the CP violating decay K-S -> 3 pi(0) with 1.7 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collisions collected by the KLOE detector at the Phi-factory DA Phi NE. We have searched for this decay in a sample of about 5.9 x 10(8) KSKL events tagging the K-S by means of the K-L interaction in the calorimeter and requiring six prompt photons. With respect to our previous search, the analysis has been improved by increasing of a factor four the tagged sample and by a more effective background rejection of fake K-S tags and spurious clusters. We find no candidates in data and simulated background samples, while we expect 0.12 standard model events. Normalizing to the number of K-S -> 2 pi(0) events in the same sample, we set the upper limit on BR(K-S -> 3 pi(0))

Abstract

We have measured the ratio cr (e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma)/sigma(e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-)gamma), with the KLOE detector at DA Phi NE for a total integrated luminosity of similar to 240 pb(-1). From this ratio we obtain the cross section sigma (e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma). From the cross section we determine the pion form factor vertical bar F-pi vertical bar(2) and the two-pion contribution to the muon anomaly a(mu) for 0.592< M-pi pi < 0.975 GeV, Delta(pi pi) a(mu) = (385.1 +/- 1.1(stat) +/- 2.7(sys+theo)) x 10(-10). This result confirms the current discrepancy between the Standard Model calculation and the experimental measurement of the muon anomaly. (c) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

The ratio R-eta = Gamma(eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma)/Gamma(eta -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)) has been measured by analysing 22 million phi -> eta gamma decays collected by the KLOE experiment at DANE, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 558 pb(-1). The eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma proceeds both via the rho resonant contribution, and possibly a non-resonant direct term, connected to the box anomaly. Our result, R-eta = 0.1856 +/- 0.0005(stat)+/- 0.0028(syst), points out a sizable contribution of the direct term to the total width. The di-pion invariant mass for the eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma decay could be described in a model-independent approach in terms of a(-) single free parameter, alpha. The determined value of the parameter alpha is alpha = (1.32 +/- 0.08(stat-0.09syst)(+0.10) +/- 0.02(theo)) GeV-2. 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

The KLOE-2 Inner Tracker, the first fully-cylindrical GEM detector ever built, is being commissioned at the Frascati Laboratory of INFN. KLOE-2 is the first experiment exploiting GEM technology with cylindrical geometry. Tracking performance of this novel detector are being studied using both cosmic-ray muon and Bhabha scattering events. Alignment and calibration procedures to reach design spatial resolutions are ongoing and will be reported.

Abstract

We report the first observation of the rare η → e + e − e + e − ( γ ) decay based on 1.7 fb − 1 collected by the KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ-factory. The selection of the e + e − e + e − final state is fully inclusive of radiation. We have identified 362 ± 29 events resulting in a branching ratio of ( 2.4 ± 0.2 stat + bckg ± 0.1 syst ) × 10 − 5 .

Abstract

In this work the MOSAIC (“MOdular System for Acquisition, Interface and Control”) board, designed for the readout and testing of the pixel modules for the silicon tracker upgrade of the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) experiment at teh CERN LHC, is described. It is based on an Artix7 Field Programmable Gate Array device by Xilinx and is compliant with the six unit “Versa Modular Eurocard” standard (6U-VME) for easy housing in a standard VMEbus crate from which it takes only power supplies and cooling.

Abstract

GASTONE64 (Gem Amplifier Shaper Tracking ON Events) is a novel 64-channel mixed analog-digital ASIC developed to readout the cylindrical GEM inner tracking detector of the KLOE-2 apparatus at the e+e− DA Φ NE collider. It has been designed in the CMOS 0.35 μ m technology and each analog channel is made of preamplifier, shaper and discriminator. The expected input charge ranges between few fC up to 40 fC, the charge sensitivity is 16 mV/fC while the equivalent input noise charge (ENC) is 800 e−+40 e−/pF. The discriminated signals are read-out using a 100 MBit/s LVDS serial data link. The power consumption is about 6 mW/channel.

Abstract

"We have carried out a new direct search for the CP violating decay KS→3π0 with 1.7 fb−1 of e+e− collisions collected by the KLOE detector at the Φ-factory DAΦ NE. We have searched for this decay in a sample of about 5.9×108KSKL events tagging the KS by means of the KL interaction in the calorimeter and requiring six prompt photons. With respect to our previous search, the analysis has been improved by increasing of a factor four the tagged sample and by a more effective background rejection of fake KS tags and spurious clusters. We find no candidates in data and simulated background samples, while we expect 0.12 standard model events. Normalizing to the number of KS→2π0 events in the same sample, we set the upper limit on BR(KS→3π0)⩽2.6×10−8 at 90% C.L., five times lower than the previous limit. We also set the upper limit on the η000 parameter, |η000|⩽0.0088 at 90% C.L., improving by a factor two the latest direct measurement.. . . "

Abstract

Part of the upgrade of the KLOE detector at the DA\Phi NE \Phi -factory consists of the insertion of a tracking device around the interaction region, composed of four tracking layers with radii from 130 mm to 205 mm and an active length of 700 mm. Each layer was realized as a cylindrical triple-GEM (CGEM) kapton-based detector, a solution that allows us to keep the total material budget below 2% of $X_{0}$, of utmost importance to limit the multiple scattering of low-momentum tracks at KLOE-2, and to minimize dead spaces. The peculiar readout pattern with XV strips provides a spatial resolution of about 200 $\mu m$ on both views, while a dedicated readout system has been developed by the KLOE-2 collaboration. It is composed of a digital readout front-end card based on the GASTONE ASIC and a General Interface Board with a configurable FPGA architecture and Gigabit Ethernet. The construction of the four CGEM layers has been completed and the detectors have been tested with a beta source and cosmic-ray muons. The insertion inside the KLOE apparatus was performed in July 2013. The construction procedure and the results of the validation tests will be reported.

Abstract

The LHCb experiment is a single-arm spectrometer, designed to study B-hadron decays at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It is crucial to accurately and efficiently track the charged decay products with the Outer Tracker straw tube detector, in the high-density particle environment of the LHC. The Outer Tracker Front End electronics provide the precise (0.5 ns) drift-time measurement, at an average occupancy of 5% and at a 1 MHz trigger rate. The tracking procedure requires high-efficiency, while at the same time putting stringent limits on the noise level. The mass production and installation of 450 fully operational Front End boxes is completed. Quality checks have been performed at several stages, at the level of individual boards and at the global level with dedicated test systems mimicking the real detector and capable of simulating all the readout functionalities. Abstract

A Time Domain Reflectometer implemented in a single cost-effective Field Programmable Gate Array device is shown to achieve a precision around 100 ps. The Time to Digital Converter section of the device is based on a tapped delay line followed by an encoder and shows both Differential and Integral Non-Linearity below one least significant bit. The same Field Programmable Gate Array houses an 8051 8-bits microprocessor, for the control of the pulse signals generation, the acquisition and the first treatment of raw data. Principles of operation, architecture, performance and preliminary trials on the prototype are presented in this paper. As an example of possible application, the proposed circuit has been usefully used to perform the quality control of the micro-strip anodic planes of the Gas Electron Multiplier Inner Tracker of the KLOE-2 experiment.

Abstract

The ϕ-factory DAΦNE offers a possibility to select pure kaon beams, charged and neutral ones. In particular, neutral kaons from ϕ → K S K L are produced in pairs and the detection of a K S ( K L ) tags the presence of a K L ( K S ) . This allows to perform precise measurements of kaon properties by means of KLOE detector. Another advantage of a ϕ-factory consists in fact that the neutral kaon pairs are produced in a pure quantum state ( J P C = 1 − − ) , which allows to investigate CP and CPT symmetries via quantum interference effects, as well as the basic principles of quantum mechanics. A review of the most recent results of the KLOE experiment at DAΦNE using pure kaon beams or via quantum interferometry is presented together with prospects for kaon physics at KLOE–2.

Abstract

The construction of the KLOE-2 Inner Tracker, foreseen as upgrade of the tracking system of the experiment at the e+e- Φ-factory DA NE at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF), has started in mid 2011. KLOE-2 is the first experiment using the GEM technology with a cylindrical geometry, developed at LNF by the Inner Tracker group and within the RD51 Collaboration as one of the key activities. Three layers of the Inner Tracker have been completed and the construction of the fourth and last layer has started. The production's procedure will be reported together with the first results obtained with 5.9 keY X-rays and cosmic-ray muons collected at LNF Inner Tracker test stand.

Abstract

We report on the design and the construction of a triple-GEM detector as the new Inner Tracker (IT) for the KLOE-2 experiment at the Frascati Φ-factory. The IT is composed of four tracking layers, each providing an independent two-dimensional space point. Each layer is a fully cylindrical triple-GEM detector. The front-end electronics is based on the GASTONE ASIC, specifically developed for this detector, a charge amplifier with digital output integrating 64 channels in one single chip. After three years of R&D the construction of the first layer has started, with the aim of completing the detector by middle of 2012. We report on the R&D achievements, including the construction process, the results of two beam-tests with prototype detectors, and the present realization status of the final detector.

They are realized as cylindrical triple-GEM detectors, a solution that allows to keep the total material budget under 2% of X0 minimizing dead spaces. The peculiar readout pattern with XV strips provides a spatial resolution of about 200 μ m on both views. The core of the readout system is the front-end card based on the GASTONE ASIC, completely developed within the KLOE-2 collaboration. We have built the two innermost layers and we will report on the construction procedure and the results of the validation tests.

Abstract

KLOE-2 at the $\phi$ -factory DA\Phi NE of INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF), is the first experiment using the GEM technology with a cylindrical geometry (CGEM), developed at the LNF by the Inner Tracker group and within the RD51 Collaboration. Four layers with 26$\div$ 41 cm diameters and L = 70 cm, each realized as a Triple-GEM detector, compose this new detector. To produce GEM foils of unprecedented size, the novel single-mask manufacturing procedure has been developed with the TE-MPE-EM CERN group, together with the realization of a novel XV readout pattern. The adopted solutions allowed the total material budget to be kept below 2% of the radiation length $X_{0}$. The final assembly of the Inner Tracker has been completed on March 14, 2014. The production procedure will be reported together with the validation test results.

Abstract

We present a measurement of η meson production in photon-photon interactions produced by electron-positron beams colliding with $ \sqrt{s}=1 $ GeV. The measurement is done with the KLOE detector at the ϕ-factory DAΦNE with an integrated luminosity of 0.24 fb−1. The e + e − → e + e − η cross section is measured without detecting the out-going electron and positron, selecting the decays η → π + π − π 0 and η → π 0 π 0 π 0. The most relevant background is due to e + e − → ηγ when the monochromatic photon escapes detection. The cross section for this process is measured as σ(e + e − → ηγ) = (856 ± 8stat ± 16syst) pb. The combined result for the e + e − → e + e − η cross section is σ(e + e − → e + e − η) = (32.72 ± 1.27stat ± 0.70syst) pb. From this we derive the partial width Γ(η → γγ) = (520 ± 20stat ± 13syst) eV. This is in agreement with the world average and is the most precise measurement to date.

Abstract

The KLOE experiment has acquired an integrated luminosity greater than 2.5 fb^{-1} at the peak of ø-resonance on the e^{+]e^{-} DAΦNE collider in the Frascati National Laboratory (LNF). New data taking with the upgraded detector (KLOE-2) and DAΦNE should start in the end of 2011. Main modifications of the detector and new interaction region give a unique possibility to collect about 20 fb^{-1} in 3 years. The KLOE-2 wide scientific program which contains the experimental study of CP and CPT symmetries, quantum decoherence, γγ physics and search of the dark matter is presented and briefly discussed.
