In a transdisciplinary project with the Municipality of Trelew (Argentina), we assessed barriers to households disposing of separated waste, developed supportive behavioral interventions, tested the interventions in a randomized controlled trial, and supported the Municipality in upscaling the most successful and cost-effective intervention to a total of 20,000 households. The interventions were designed to address the three main barriers to waste separation detected through a baseline study: a lack of knowledge on how separation works; the additional hassle it represents; and the self-regulation challenge it poses. The interventions consisted of envelopes containing simplifying information, empathetic messages, a magnetic calendar acting as a reminder, or a combination thereof. The interventions roughly halved the prevalence of bags containing unusable mixed waste two weeks after the intervention. This impact was still present after six months. We did not find evidence for an additional effect of empathetic messages or the reminder. Based on these results, the simplified information intervention was rolled out. The results provide evidence of the high potential of using the full range of behavioral methods to increase sustainable behaviors, particularly in the context of limited options to adapt the waste management system as such.

The Grid-Characteristic numerical Method (GCM) that is quite common in solving aero and hydrodynamic problems can also be applied for mechanics of solids. It allows to implement complex border and contact conditions, including the non-reflecting border and the destructible contact. Both this conditions are very important for the precise and effective modeling of Low-Velocity Impacts (LVI) on fiber and Fiber-Metal Laminates (FML) and the resulting Barely Visible Impact Damage (BVID) that influences the residual strength of a composite aircraft part. BVID is the type of damage that is not visible by the naked eye and can be hardly detected by a standard ultrasound equipment that is used for regular maintenance. It can appear during any weak impacts like bird strike or hail. Determining its influence on the residual strength of the part is very important to define the priorities of development of ultrasound diagnostics. In this paper, the GCM was applied for a full cycle of loading of an FML aircraft cover part. The FML consisted of a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and a single titanium layer on the upper surface. The cycle of loading in a single calculation consisted of an LVI caused by a small striker and a comparatively slow compressive in-plane loading. Three-dimensional patterns of velocity and stress distributions over the time of calculation are given. Destruction patterns, obtained via the Hashin failure criterion are given and analyzed.

The paper presents COMET software which enables to design steel structural joints widely used in civil and industrial engineering. Algorithm for designing each joint prototype has been presented as a set of operations implementing the rules for determining the interrelated values of the joint parameters. Each prototype is developed as an independent program that performs a full cycle of designing the joint and verification of the joint parameters according to the specified design codes. Searching of unknown joint parameters has been transformed to a decision making problem based on analysis of the joint mathematical model. Automatic searching of unknown joint parameters has been implemented as a multiple targeted improvement of a certain initial joint design in order to satisfy load-carrying capacity constraints taking into account the structural and assortment-based constraints. Multiple improvement of current joint design is performed on the basis of sensitivity analysis relative to variation of governing joint parameters.

In the context of the life-extension program for the No. 3 unit of the Smolensk NPP, the life-exhausted RBMK-1000 control and protection system, the safety control systems of the power unit, and the analog-relay control apparatus of the technological equipment of the block control board (reactor and turbine departments) have been replaced with systems and software-hardware suites (SHS) developed by NIKIET. NIKIET has completed the full cycle of work from the structural development of the systems and SHS to implementation followed by follow-up support services. Based on experience in modernization of special RBMK CPS and SCS-T systems and the process control and protection systems of the technological equipment of reactor installations developed by NIKIET, a unique automated digital control system with a single multi-level and decentralized structure of a complex of technical means was created, which secures not only safe and reliable operation of the entire power unit but also the fulfillment of key requirements of the system. Currently, the fundamental solutions implemented in this system are used as standards for the development of automated monitoring and control systems for other facilities, specifically, reactor installations with fast reactors (BREST, MBIR).

This article highlights theoretical and practical aspects of financial stability of modern domestic and foreign industrial companies with full cycle of extraction and processing of minerals. It was detected that nowadays there is no clearly developed system of quantitative and target indicators of management of sustainable and efficient development of modern domestic and foreign industrial companies in conditions of uncertainty, economic instability and aggressive business environment. Basing on the usage of world’s experience of usage of key models of multiple discriminatory analysis of assessment of probability of bankruptcy, we have developed relevant recommendations that disclose influence of negative trends on peculiarities of functioning of modern industrial leading companies and probability of termination of their activity in the nearest future. Received scientific results and relevant financial and economic calculations must be used in context of making justified management decisions in modern industrial companies concerning provision of their successful functioning and increasing of the efficiency of their business activity with the possibility of strengthening of competitor positions on the external market of iron ore raw materials by means of implementation of programs of financial rehabilitation and anti-crisis measures in order to solve the priority tasks of updating energy-intensive and physically-worn technological complexes. Basing on system research, the authors proposed scientific and methodical approach to substantiation of influence of key aspects of functioning of modern industrial domestic and foreign companies on the efficiency of their activity considering implementation of financial strategies of support and further effective usage of mineral deposits in difficult economic conditions.

The work presents the algorithms for managing and organization of scientific activity as services in hybrid computing environments of digital platforms. They expand the management algorithms for the deterministic research services of a digital platform. Their joint use allows, within the framework of a single information and computing space of a digital platform, to carry out a full cycle of management of scientific research processes, including cooperative research using digital economy tools, and to ensure the provision of scientific infrastructure resources to a wide range of consumers.

To analyze the effects of finite computational precision on the dynamical degradation of digital chaotic maps, we designed a periodic orbit detection algorithm that is based on a functional graph. The algorithm can calculate the transient length of each chaotic orbit, weak secret keys, fixed points and the period distribution of digital chaotic systems with various limited computational precisions accurately. Furthermore, an effective method based on quadratic congruential generator is proposed to counteract the performance degradation of digital chaos. Based on the method, a new chaotic model can be constructed with full cycle. Numerical experiments are carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed scheme in terms of phase portrait, autocorrelation function, complexity and periodicity analysis. Finally, as an application, a pseudorandom bit generator with satisfactory performance is designed for chaotic secure communication.

Due to heavy computational burdens, existing demand-side bidding models have to sacrifice the accuracy of uncertainty estimates in exchange for tractability, and therefore fail to derive a high bidding revenue as expected. To overcome this challenge, we analyze the entire bidding process, from scenario reduction to bidding curve construction, to find out the weak link that needs improvement. We further develop a novel process to save some computational resources by decomposing the complex bidding model, then reallocates these resources to consider more scenarios and more precise bidding curves. This process is fully decoupled, and is able to achieve both a bidding revenue growth and a significant calculation speedup. In order to reduce computational complexity, the scenario reduction and bidding steps are separated, reorganized and decoupled. The price response zone and single-period scenario reduction are specially designed for temporal decoupling, while a fine-grained bidding model is developed to meet the high-precision requirement. The proposed process and models are demonstrated through a time-shiftable-load owner who constructs piecewise linear bidding curves in a day-ahead market. Extensive case studies verify the fast computing speed and bidding revenue growth, and provide strong evidences that the proposed methodology is superior in bidding tasks.

The entire cycle of strength tests of the aircraft structure requires large expenditures of time and effort attributed to the manufacture of two full-size aircraft structures and two test rigs. The pace of development of modern aviation technology dictates strict requirements for timing and quality of testing, which allows us to ensure competitiveness in the world aircraft market. Therefore, when conducting a full cycle tests, shortening of the testing period becomes of particular importance. We consider a novel approach to strength testing of a full-scale transport aircraft structure which consists in static and fatigue tests carried out on the same object. The developed approach was tried out when testing the full-scale wing structure of a transport aircraft. The tests were carried out on a set-up that allowed reproducing both cases of static loading and variable loads of flight cycles. At the first stage, the static strength was proved by the results of finite-element calculation of the stress state of the structure at ultimate loads using a model verified by the strain measurements of one of the wing consoles under limit loads, as well as by testing typical and critical airframe elements. Samples of full-scale panels were additionally tested for buckling to confirm the load capacity of the upper wing panels. Fatigue tests were carried out in the time span of two design service life. The obtained results showed the possibility of conducting both static and fatigue tests using one and the same full-scale aircraft structure.

Today, lithium is becoming a new strategic material capable of influencing the sustainable development of the world economy. The results of developments in the production of innovative electrode materials from lithium carbonate on the basis of domestic lithium-containing raw materials with the creation of a full cycle of the technological line of lithium production: from ores to modern lithium batteries are pesented. Analysis of the explored reserves, mineral and material composition of domestic spodumene raw materials and lithium-containing dumps of the Belogorsk GOK indicate the prospects and expediency of their development for the production of the ever-increasing needs of the world market for lithium materials. As a result, the sulfuric acid technology for obtaining high-grade lithium carbonate directly from spodumene was optimized, bypassing the stage of obtaining a technical grade product, in a single technological process for processing spodumene with a reduction in the number of technological operations, excluding the expensive operation of concentrating a lithium sulfate solution by stripping. An efficient technology of purification and post-treatment of technical lithium carbonate to battery quality of 99.95% has been developed, including the processes of causticization of technical lithium carbonate, ultrafiltration and ion-exchange sorption of a solution of lithium hydroxide, followed by precipitation of lithium carbonate by ammonium carbonate. Cathode materials - lithium iron-phosphate , obtained from high-purity lithium carbonate by aerosol pyrolysis (MAP) and the sol-gel method (SGM), showed good electrochemical characteristics. The end result is innovative electrode materials for modern LIBs with significantly increased capacity and stability. The practical implementation of a full cycle of technologies from lithium-containing raw materials to modern lithium batteries opens up prospects for the creation in Kazakhstan of a high-tech lithium cluster according to the Scheme: Spodumene ores → Lithium concentrate → Lithium carbonate → Lithium cathode materials → Batteries.

This study investigated the effects of problem-solving teaching method on elementary school students’ physics achievement at elementary school. In this investigation an experimental research procedure was used. Along with this, a sample of sixty students was drawn from a total of three hundred seventy-eight students using lottery method of sampling technique. Physics achievement test (pre-test and post-test) covering the unit ‘’Introduction to Electronics’’ was used as measuring instrument. Then, based on the pre-test scores, mixed ability groups such as fifteen high and fifteen low scoring 30 students each were assigned as experimental (13Fand17M) and control(15 and15M) groups using lottery method of sampling technique Students in the experimental group were taught using problem solving teaching method while those in the control group were instructed with lecture teaching method. The post-test constructed by the writer in the sample unit taught was administrated to both groups immediately after the treatment was over. Finally, the results of the study revealed that problem-solving teaching method was more effective in teaching physics as compared with lecture method at elementary school level. Purpose: to justification of the need to develop new-generation domestic technologies that ensure the competitiveness and stability of the Russian economy to external challenges. Using the laws of accelerated development of various systems, objects and processes of the material world will allow us to construct a mechanism for analysis, decision-making and management of the justification, development and implementation of new generation technologies.Methods: the research method is based on the generalization of forecasting the accelerated development of various processes under the conditions of growth restrictions, methods for constructing targeted information-logic models, decision-making methods for justifying the costs of upgrading one-generation technology options and analyzing domestic and foreign technology development experience new generation.Results: within the space of creation and development of new generation technologies, in accordance with the well-known concept of the full life cycle, the process of development and implementation of new generation technologies in the form of a logistic curve has been specified. The solution to the problem of managing the creation of new generation technologies is presented as the fastest possible implementation of projects to search for innovative solutions that meet the requirements of competitiveness. Mathematical models of the formulated problem are considered. Examples of practical tasks for managing the development and development of new generation technologies are given.Conclusions and Relevance: the dynamics of development and the economic conditions for the transition to technology modernization are determined by the need for further development of new generation technologies in the interests of full use of the innovative potential of this generation. Information-logical and mathematical models have been developed for making decisions on managing the justification of the necessary resources for the implementation of projects in the full cycle during the transition from innovative solutions to new technologies and innovative products.

In an acetylene hydrogenation reactor, the slowly falling catalyst activity affects ethylene plant performance in an operating cycle. To maximize the integral economic benefit in a regeneration cycle or achieve the longest regeneration cycle, the full cycle operation optimisation must be a long time-scale dynamic optimisation for which the method of control vector parameterization is adopted. Because of various uncertain disturbances, some distances must be reserved for process constraints and the desired effect of full cycle optimisation is hardly fully achieved. Thus, based on the strictly slowly-time-varying catalyst deactivation model, the operation margin consumption is estimated. Furthermore, a modified full cycle operation optimisation strategy is presented which takes the operation margin consumption as additional constraints. To obtain the maximum integral economic benefit or the longest regeneration cycle, we present a realizable full cycle optimized operation plan that considers the sufficient operation space reserved for uncertain disturbances.

The paper deals with the subject of the prediction of useful energy during the cycling of a lithium-ion cell (LIC), using machine learning-based techniques. It was demonstrated that depending on the combination of cycling parameters, the useful energy (RUEc) that can be transfered during a full cycle is variable, and also three different types of evolution of changes in RUEc were identified. The paper presents a new non-parametric RUEc prediction model based on Gaussian process regression. It was proven that the proposed methodology enables the RUEc prediction for LICs discharged, above the depth of discharge, at a level of 70% with an acceptable error, which is confirmed for new load profiles. Furthermore, techniques associated with explainable artificial intelligence were applied, for the first time, to determine the significance of model input parameters – the variable importance method – and to determine the quantitative effect of individual model parameters (their reciprocal interaction) on RUEc – the accumulated local effects model of the first and second order. Not only is the RUEc prediction methodology presented in the paper characterised by high prediction accuracy when using small learning datasets, but it also shows high application potential in all kinds of battery management systems.

Simulation of Computing Systems plays a crucial role in state-of-the-art design validation and optimization methodologies. Traditionally, Register Transfer-Level (RTL) simulation is a well-established approach to perform performance analysis as well as functional validation. However, more agile simulation and emulation methodologies are required for architectural exploration and optimization, given the always increasing complexity of parallel processors, including those designed for ultra-low power IoT end-nodes. Architectural simulators are the most commonly used tools to explore parallel computing architectures. Nevertheless, they are often not accurate enough to identify and quantify system-level performance bottlenecks, such as access to external peripherals or contentions on shared resources. In this context, FPGA logic emulation is gaining increasing popularity. In this paper, we exploit and introduce a “Hardware-in-the-loop” framework that eases HW/SW co-design of Parallel-ultra-low power IoT processors by enabling the analysis of the full cyber-physical loop from sensing to actuation. We use the proposed methodology to carry out $\mu$ Architectural optimizations and to demonstrate performance improvements on two real-life end-to-end applications with full hardware in the loop emulation. Our results show that we can run workloads on real-life applications more than 3’000 times faster than cycle-accurate RTL, and with speed similar to instruction accurate simulators but with full cycle accuracy.

Aim 1. Assess performance in surgical handovers at Southampton General Hospital (SGH) against RCS ‘Safe Handover’ guidelines Identify any areas for improvement to ensure safe and effective handover of surgical patients Method 10 evening surgical handovers were anonymously audited In October 2019 against RCS ‘safe handover’ guidelines. The results were subsequently analysed and circulated amongst the surgical department. Handovers were then led consistently by surgical registrars and advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs). A prompt including the RCS handover guidelines was made and distributed to all members of the surgical team and included in departmental inductions. Following this, a further 10 evening handovers were anonymously audited between July and August 2020. Results Many aspects of handover performance descriptors described by the RCS in the re-audit improved following the circulation of our prompt including RCS handover guidelines and examples of minimum or good standards of practice for handover. Specifically, handover timeliness, the briefings provided (100% from 70%), the audibility of a single speaker (70% from 30%), the number of educational discussions held during handovers (100% from 50%) and awareness of the on-call overnight consultant (100% from 80%) all vastly improved. Conclusions Emphasis on undertaking effective handovers needs to continue as ‘safe' handovers between shifts can protect both patient and doctor safety. This is especially true following the implementation of the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) and a move to full shift working. Handovers are also proposed as opportunities for training which may be helpful especially in an era of reduced hours of surgical training.

Aim The BSSH standards of care in hand trauma emphasise the importance of accurate and comprehensive documentation. This quality improvement project aimed to evaluate whether an electronic proforma could improve documentation rates in hand trauma. Method This prospective, closed-loop audit involved two cycles of seven consecutive days. Outcomes were evaluated against BSSH standards of care using 15 data points. Pre-audit, a bespoke proforma was piloted in the hand trauma clinic and revised following feedback. In the first cycle (‘Loop 1’), documentation in the hand trauma clinic was compared with that of the acute take, where clinicians were still using free text. The second cycle (‘Loop 2’) compared documentation pre- and post-introduction of the proforma within the acute take setting. Categorical data were interrogated using the χ2 test with significance set at p Results 122 patients were included in the Loop 1 dataset. Free text clerking quality varied between clinician groups (e.g., surgical trainees significantly outperformed advanced nurse practitioners in 5/15 data points); however, some data points were universally poorly documented. 99 patients were included in the Loop 2 dataset. There was excellent uptake of the proforma in both acute take (95%) and hand trauma clinic (100%) settings. Statistically significant improvements were seen in 11/15 data points following the introduction of the proforma. Conclusions This project demonstrates that the introduction of a hand trauma clerking proforma led to significant improvements in documentation quality. The proforma has now been developed into a Trust-wide ClinDoc which brings additional benefits in terms of research, audit and service evaluation.

A full-cycle water remediation process has been developed by expanding the capacity of an existing water treatment technology that uses combined ozonation and ultrafiltration membrane processes. The developed water reclamation process treated the effluent of a full-scale wastewater treatment plant in Canada that uses biological treatment processes to treat municipal wastewater, and reduced the colour, turbidity, suspended solids, iron and pathogen content of the effluent. The removal of hardness from the wastewater effluent was accomplished by the precipitation process. The use of lime (0.2 g/L) in the presence of NaOH operating at pH 11 showed the best results, reducing the water hardness by 89.1%. The advanced treatment capability of ozonation (8–10% w/w) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membrane produced a reliable source of water for municipal, industrial and agricultural use. The developed process offers important environmental benefits by reducing the diversion of water from sensitive ecosystems, decreasing wastewater discharge and preventing pollution.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of technology transfer supported by two federal programs: Federal Targeted Program “Research and Development in Priority Areas of Development of Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014–2020” (hereinafter FRDP) and Russian Government Resolution 218 of 9 April 2010 (hereinafter Resolution 218). Aim of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of and identify more effective mechanism of interaction between the state, business and universities as supported by Resolution 218 and FRDP for full-cycle projects and technology transfer. Methodology: Methods of statistical economics, quantitative and qualitative methods were used, including comparative analysis, expert assessments, and analysis of macroeconomic forecasts. Results: Higher effectiveness of commercialization mechanism for technology transfer implemented within framework of Resolution 218 relative to FRDP is shown. Scope of application of results: Results obtained should be applied by universities when selecting most effective form of interaction with state and industry partners to commercialize technologies, as well as by public authorities in development of new tools for implementation of full-cycle projects. Conclusions: Constructing future mechanism of technology commercialization is of primary importance both due to the fact that in 2021 FRDP and Resolution 218 programs will finish, and since point subsidies for individual enterprises cannot address systemic goal of improving competitiveness of high-tech development sector as a whole.

Crowded trades are often associated with bubbles. If investors can locate a bubble sufficiently early, they can profit from the run-up in prices. But to profit from a bubble, investors must exit the bubble before the sell-off erodes all of the profits. The authors propose two measures for managing exposure to bubbles. One measure, called asset centrality, locates crowded trading, which they show is often associated with the formation of bubbles. The other is a measure of relative value, which helps to separate crowding that occurs during a bubble’s run-up from crowding that occurs during a bubble’s sell-off. Neither measure by itself is sufficient for identifying the full cycle of a bubble, but the authors show that together these measures have the potential to locate bubbles in sectors and in factors as they begin to emerge and to identify exit points before they fully deflate. Cykl koniunkturalny w rolnictwie jest zagadnieniem ważnym i jednocześnie złożonym, gdyż wpływają na niego, obok czynników ekonomicznych, także zmiany przyrodnicze i uwarunkowania biologiczne. Opracowanie ma charakter empiryczny. Jego głównym celem jest zidentyfikowanie powtarzających się cech rolnego cyklu koniunkturalnego, które dotyczą zmian produkcji i cen. Na podstawie produkcji końcowej rolnictwa stwierdzono, iż w latach 2001–2015 długość pełnego cyklu wynosiła od 4 do 6 lat. Długość fazy wzrostowej od 2 do 4 lat, spadkowej zaś 1–2 lata. Amplituda wszystkich cykli opartych na danych rocznych była zbliżona do zera. W każdej fazie wzrostowej nastąpił skumulowany wzrost globalnej i końcowej produkcji rolniczej. Wzrosty w fazie lepszej koniunktury były znacznie większe niż spadki w gorszym okresie. Jedyną powtarzającą się cechą zmian wartości dodanej brutto był jej względny łączny wzrost w fazie wzrostowej w odniesieniu do łącznych zmian w fazie spadkowej. Przeciętne roczne oraz skumulowane dane wskazują, że dynamika cen w fazie lepszej koniunktury była zawsze większa niż dynamika w okresie gorszej koniunktury. W każdej fazie wzrostowej ceny w ujęciu skumulowanym wzrastały, w fazie spadkowej zaś najczęściej nieznacznie zmniejszały się. Ceny produkcji globalnej rolnictwa były w ujęciu rocznym bardziej dynamiczne i zmienne niż jej realne wartości. Natomiast skumulowane dynamiki cen i wartości produkcji w poszczególnych fazach cyklu rolnego zachowywały się bardzo podobnie. Przeciętne nożyce cen we wszystkich fazach wzrostowych oraz prawie we wszystkich fazach spadkowych były niekorzystne dla rolników.

Introduction: the feasibility of the strategic development of the country in the long term from the point of view of technical support of production areas is considered. Presents an analytical review of designs of technological machines manufacturers, highlighted the work of leading Russian scientists Balovnev V.I., Zorin A.V., Goncharov N.V., Korchagin P.A., Pavlov V.P. and others aimed at solving problems of competitiveness and import substitution of land transport and technological complexes, focused on operation in different sectors of the economy. The increase in the efficiency of technological machines of a wide range of use by constructive refinement by placing in the drive mechanism of the working equipment of the quick-detachable device: quick coupler, which provides the versatility of the base machine, reducing the cost of performing a full cycle of technological works. The modified model of the quick coupler is developed, mathematical, computer modeling and full-scale tests are carried out. Proved the feasibility of the introduction of the indicator variable characterizing the efficiency of the multifunctional machine at the put costs.Methods: the study is based on the analysis of the works of leading domestic and foreign scientists in the field of improving existing technological machines. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study was a systematic approach, probability theory, methods of mathematical analysis, simulation, similarity theory, reliability theory, theory of planning and static processing of results.Results and discussion: a modified model of the quick coupler is developed, a distinctive feature of the design is the model of the unloaded locking mechanism. Simulation modeling, full-scale and bench tests on the level of structural reliability are carried out.Conclusion: operators of technological machines are proposed to supplement the working equipment with a quick coupler with an unloaded locking mechanism that allows to constructively adapt the machines to the effective functioning in the full cycle of technological works by expanding the range of working equipment used and reducing operating costs.

Introduction. Analysis of existing foreign and Russian project management maturity models revealed the absence of tools for assessing the maturity of project management, which would take into account the specifics of the functioning of engineering companies and the implementation of engineering projects. The uniformity of such models limits the list of evaluated aspects of project management, which does not allow to fully cover the project management processes operating in engineering companies. Such processes should include engineering, management of intangible assets, control and acceptance of the results of engineering works, management of construction and installation works, and so on. To solve the problem, it is necessary to develop special tools for the assessment and development of project management, which will take into account engineering-specific processes. The toolkit will allow to quantify the degree of implementation of the project approach to the activities of an engineering company and to plan the continuous improvement of the processes and tools of project management in it. The subject of the research is the development of tools for assessing and developing project-oriented management in a full-cycle engineering company. Materials and methods. Applied the method of comparative analysis, survey method and method of semi-structured interviews. Results. The article formulates the features of project management in engineering companies. The main types of maturity models of project management are considered, their distinctive features are revealed. Tools for the evaluation and development of project management for the Russian engineering company full cycle are formulated. The assessment of the levels of formalization of project management processes was carried out, their current and target states were determined. Set of measures for the development of processes and tools of project management is planned. Conclusions. The toolkit for project management evaluation and development proposed in the article allows to carry out structural analysis of project management processes and the level of their formalization, to implement improvements based on the results of evaluation not only in the engineering company under consideration, but also in project-oriented organizations implementing similar projects.

The China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is a superconducting magnet tokamak, and one mission is to demonstrate a full cycle of self-sustaining tritium. In this study, in order to validate the electromagnetic (EM) load distribution on the helium-cooled ceramic breeder (HCCB) blanket, a three-dimensional model of the CFETR sector was developed in the finite element software ANSYS. The system was analyzed considering a plasma major disruption scenario with an exponent current quench of 36 ms. The EM forces and the moment distribution on the blanket module as well as on the segment were calculated. Then, the EM loads were used as the input for the structural analysis of the HCCB blanket. Moreover, the results were compared to those of linear analyses to underline the effect of the non-linearity of the ferromagnetic materials on the EM load distribution of the HCCB blanket. These results indicated that the maximum equivalent stress and displacement satisfied the requirements of structural safety design. With respect to the design and optimization of CFETR, this investigation will provide technical reference and data support for the future design and optimization of the HCCB blanket.

Due to the complex structures of multi-limbed parallel robots, conventional parallel robots generally have limited workspace, complex kinematics, and complex dynamics, which increases the application difficulty of parallel robot in industrial engineering. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a single-loop Schönflies motion parallel robot with full cycle rotation, the robot can generate Schönflies motion by the most simplified structure. The novel Schönflies motion parallel robot is a two-limb parallel mechanism with least links and joints, and each limb is driven by a 2-degree of freedom (DOF) cylindrical driver (C-driver). The full cycle rotation of the output link is achieved by “…R-H…” structure, where the revolute (R) and helical (H) joints are coaxial. Mobility, kinematics, workspace and singularity analysis of novel Schönflies motion parallel robot are analyzed. Then, dynamic model is formulated based on the principle of virtual work. Moreover, a pick-and-place task is implemented by proposed Schönflies motion parallel robot and a serial SCARA robot, respectively. The simulation results verify the correctness of the theoretical model. Furthermore, dynamics performances of Schönflies motion parallel robot and serial SCARA robot are compared, which reveal the performance merits of proposed Schönflies motion parallel robot.

This work presents a platform for evolution of morphology in full cycle reconfigurable hardware: The EMERGE (Easy Modular Embodied Robot Generator) modular robot platform. Three parts necessary to implement a full cycle process, i.e., assembling the modules in morphologies, testing the morphologies, disassembling modules and repeating, are described as a previous step to testing a fully autonomous system: the mechanical design of the EMERGE module, extensive tests of the modules by first assembling them manually, and automatic assembly and disassembly tests. EMERGE modules are designed to be easy and fast to build, one module is built in half an hour and is constructed from off-the-shelf and 3D printed parts. Thanks to magnetic connectors, modules are quickly attached and detached to assemble and reconfigure robot morphologies. To test the performance of real EMERGE modules, 30 different morphologies are evolved in simulation, transferred to reality, and tested 10 times. Manual assembly of these morphologies is aided by a visual guiding tool that uses AprilTag markers to check the real modules positions in the morphology against their simulated counterparts and provides a color feedback. Assembly time takes under 5 min for robots with fewer than 10 modules and increases linearly with the number of modules in the morphology. Tests show that real EMERGE morphologies can reproduce the performance of their simulated counterparts, considering the reality gap. Results also show that magnetic connectors allow modules to disconnect in case of being subjected to high external torques that could damage them otherwise. Module tracking combined with their easy assembly and disassembly feature enable EMERGE modules to be also reconfigured using an external robotic manipulator. Experiments demonstrate that it is possible to attach and detach modules from a morphology, as well as release the module from the manipulator using a passive magnetic gripper. This shows that running a completely autonomous, evolution of morphology in full cycle reconfigurable hardware of different topologies for robots is possible and on the verge of being realized. We discuss EMERGE features and the trade-off between reusability and morphological variability among different approaches to physically implement evolved robots.
