This research analyzes the role of libraries in the socio-educational reintegration of adolescents deprived from freedom in four Latin American countries: Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico. The qualitative methodological approach is used, and semi-structured interviews are applied to the representatives of the selected institutions. Through a content analysis, the role and position of libraries in organizations that work with adolescents deprived from freedom are studied. In addition, the importance of interdisciplinary work is studied and specific roles and functions of libraries for the insertion and social empowerment of young people are disclosed. The promotion of basic social rights is evident in the proposal of activities and services and a difference in the experience that supports each information unit.

Bibliotherapy involves the therapeutic use of books and literature to facilitate the expression of feelings and coping skills. The purpose of this research was to analyze the scientific production on bibliotherapy, indexed in Scopus. A bibliometric study was carried out using quantitative methods to know the development of research related to bibliotherapy at a general level. A retrospective recovery of documents was carried out, without a temporality filter, identifying 1,289 records, in which the article predominates as the type of document and English as the language. The most cited author is Cuijpers, while the most prolific is John Pardeck; the most productive countries correspond to the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Among the most preponderant keywords are: bibliotherapy,female, male, adult, rehabilitation, depression, cognitive therapy, psychotherapy, child and self-care. It is concluded that production has increased systematically during the 21st century, and its use as an auxiliary tool in the treatment of physical and psychological diseases has increased. On the other hand, although bibliotherapy is considered part of the work of librarians, there is not a large production of information professionals. Due to this, it is suggested to increase the research on bibliotherapy from the librarianship perspective

Students participation is vital in the teaching - learning processes, acquiring greater relevance in virtual learning environments. However, in online class experiences it has been shown that there is low interaction during synchronous classes, between students and teacher, and among students themselves. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the factors that intervene in the interaction of the Library Science and Documentation students, of the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, in synchronous online classes. A survey with open and closed questions was used as a data collection instrument, applied to a sample of 103 regular students of the career, from a universe of 155 students. The results showed that the active participation of students in synchronous online classes is affected by factors internal and external to the learner, including personal, motivational and environmental aspects.

Since its inception, library science has had a close relationship with society and especially with the community it serves. This relationship is based on the commitment acquired by the library and the professionals who work in it to support and promote well-being and a better quality of life for both its users and the entire community. Rural libraries are not exempt from this situation, which are inserted in regions with adverse conditions from a territorial and socioeconomic point of view. Their communities live in an environment of material precariousness and have difficulties in accessing education and work and the main problem is the inexistence of economic sustenance and access to the satisfaction of basic needs. This systematized review aims to identify the initiatives promoted by rural and / or community public libraries to contribute to economic development in depressed and excluded sectors such as rural areas; in addition to know the impact that these practices produce in the communities where they are implemented. The information search was carried out in: Web of Science, Scopus, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis, Oxford, JSTOR, Science Direct, Dialnet, E-LIS, LA Reference, Latin American Repositories and Scielo. The results showed various practices implemented by the libraries, which were grouped into five categories. On the other hand, it was possible to conclude that most of the practices are not standardized, their impact is not evaluated and are carried out through self-managemen

Biblioclasty is the destruction of books and bibliographic material. The objective of this research was to identify the methods and historical contexts of the intentional destruction of books in the 20th and 21st centuries through a systematized literature review. A bibliographic search was conducted in the databases Scopus, Core, Google Scholar, Repositorios Latinoamericanos, Web of Science, Springer, Oxford, Unesco, E-lis, La Referencia, Jstor y Dialnet. 27 documents were selected for analysis, from which two contexts were established in which biblioclasty occurs: Conflict and Non-conflict. In addition, three techniques with which books are destroyed were identified: Burning, Manual Destruction, and Shredding. It is concluded that in the conflict context, the main cause of biblioclasty is censorship because of what the book represents as a means of freedom of expression. In the non-conflict context the destruction is for artistic reasons, vandalism or for health security. The most used method is book burning, related to conflict and security contexts (pandemic). Other methods were used to a lesser extent such as crushing.

A professional practice is a type of internship, a practicum, that encompasses a supervised hands-on training experience for students to develop and identify the core and enabling competencies required in a professional environment. It also allows them to identify the developed and underdeveloped skills that are important in the labour environment while still undergoing an academic training. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to determine the core and enabling competencies required and developed by the students coursing the Library and Information Science Programme at Universidad Tecnologica Metropolitana during their professional practices carried out from 2019 through 2021. To this end, a questionnaire with open and closed-ended questions was used as data collection instrument. It was applied to a sample of 64 graduates from this Programme, out of a universe of 70 students in addition to a focus group to delve deeper into the answers obtained. The results established that both core and enabling competencies had been relevant in their professional practice. The most relevant core competencies were those related to information and knowledge services; information analysis and data retrieval; and organisation of data, information and knowledge assets meanwhile the most relevant enabling competencies were communication, teamwork and adaptability. In the present work, the Ibero-American scientific production of the category of Information Science & Library Science of the Web of Science between the years 2013 to 2017 is analyzed. The purpose is carrying out a multivariate analysis of this information to determine patterns of behavior of the countries. The main conclusions show that the Ibero- American countries have presented an increase of publications in the area of Information Science & Library Science, especially in Spain, Brazil, and Mexico. All of them with library journals indexed in WoS.

Bibliotherapy is a multidisciplinary tool used as a therapeutic technique in a variety of situations. It is divided into two types: clinical and developmental. The purpose of the study was to make a systematic review of the literature on the subject to analyze the contexts in which bibliotherapy is used with children and adolescents, and the participation of library professionals in these processes. A bibliographic search was conducted in the databases Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCO, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Oxford, Dialnet Plus, Proquest, Network of Latin American Repositories, Academic Repository of the University of Chile, SciELO, E-LIS and the Catalog of the System of Libraries of the Metropolitan Technologic University. Of the 799 initial results, 36 final papers were selected. It may be concluded that bibliotherapy is a tool with a tendency to progressive improvement, used for healing purposes and efficiently contributing to repair and healing processes in children and adolescents. Bibliotherapy is applied in therapeutic, recreational and educational contexts, mainly by health professionals and teachers, whereas the participation of librarians is low.

The objective of this work is to describe a teaching experience in the subject of Information Resources and Services in Science and Technology. This subject is part of the education program in Librarianship and Documentation provided at the Metropolitan Technological University, on the basis of the Service-Learning methodology (A + S). Through the application of this pedagogical strategy, students use their specific knowledge, related to the search and retrieval of information focused on solving the information needs of researchers in the area of science, specifically, in the areas of chemistry and health.The narration of the experience that has meant using the Service-Learning methodology in librarianship,aims to serve as an example to those who practice teaching in this discipline, showing that learning of the curricular contents of the career can be generated, through a practical strategy real and at the same time, with social contribution.

Se utiliza el enfoque metodológico cualitativo y se aplican entrevistas semiestructuradas a los representantes de las instituciones seleccionadas. Mediante un análisis de contenido, se estudia el rol y la posición de las bibliotecas en las organizaciones que trabajan con los adolescentes privados de libertad. Además, se estudia la importancia del trabajo interdisciplinario y se dan a conocer roles y funciones específicos de las bibliotecas para la inserción y la habilitación social de los jóvenes. Se evidencia la promoción de derechos sociales básicos en la propuesta de actividades y servicios y una diferencia en la experiencia que respalda a cada unidad de información.

The purpose of this research was identify the criteria of collection management and development in museums, through a systematized review. For the development of the bibliographic search was contemplated the use of ten information resources: Dialnet, Jstor, La Referencia, Proquest, Repositorios Latinoamericanos, REDIB, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, Wiley and Wos. 32 documents were selected for analysis and then they were split in five groups according to the type of collections contained in the museums: general collections, human nature collectiones (artifacts and anthropological), art collections, nature collectiones (biology, zoology, entomology,among others) and archaeological collections. It is concluded that currently the museums search for modernize their rol as cultural entities, and the implementation and use of new technologies for the benefit of them and the community; besides it persists in the use and distribution of the museum´s space as a fundamental pillar for the preservation and exhibition of the collections and it glimpses that determined collection management criteria are exclusive or get great importance for the institutions according to the nature and composition of such collections., El propósito de esta investigación fue identificar los criterios de gestión y desarrollo de colección en museos, a través de una revisión sistemática. Para el desarrollo de la búsqueda bibliográfica se contempló el uso de diez recursos de información: Dialnet, Jstor, La Referencia, Proquest, Repositorios Latinoamericanos, REDIB, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, Willey y Wos. Se seleccionaron 32 documentos para su análisis y se dividieron en cinco grupos según el tipo de colecciones contenidas en los museos: colecciones a niveles generales, colecciones de naturaleza humana (artefactos y/o antropológicas), colecciones de arte, colecciones naturales (biología, zoología, entomología, entre otras) y colecciones arqueológicas. Se concluye que actualmente los museos buscan modernizar su rol como entidades culturales y la implementación y uso de nuevas tecnologías para beneficio de ellas y de la comunidad; además se persiste en el uso y distribución del espacio del museo como pilar fundamental para la preservación y exhibición de las colecciones y se vislumbra que determinados criterios de gestión de colecciones son exclusivos o adquieren mayor importancia para las instituciones en función de la naturaleza y composición de dichas colecciones.

Sin embargo, en las experiencias de clases online se ha demostrado que existe baja interacción durante las clases sincrónicas, entre estudiantes y docente, y entre los mismos estudiantes. Por ello, esta investigación tiene como propósito identificar los factores que intervienen en la interacción de los estudiantes de la carrera Bibliotecología y Documentación, de la Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, en las clases online sincrónicas. Para ello, se utilizó como instrumento de recolección de datos, un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas y cerradas, aplicándose a una muestra de 103 alumnos regulares de la carrera, de un universo de 155 estudiantes. Los resultados demostraron que la participación activa de los estudiantes en las clases online sincrónicas se ve afectada por factores internos y externos al educando, entre ellos aspectos personales, motivacionales y medioambientales.

23. Bibliotherapy: Use and Characterization in Pediatric Hospital Contexts in Santiago, Chile

The present research aims to identify and characterize the application of bibliotherapy in a pediatric hospital context in Santiago de Chile. For this, a qualitative methodology was used, conducting semi-structured interviews with seven representatives of organizations linked to the investigated hospitals. The content analysis carried out resulted in the creation of four categories – background and organization; characteristics of activities related to books, reading and bibliotherapy; methodology of activities related to books, reading and bibliotherapy; perception about bibliotherapy. It was possible to characterize the activities carried out in the hospital centers with these categories. Among the most relevant findings, it was found that there is no formal use of bibliotherapy as therapeutic or recreational within the investigated hospitals, but rather, a use of reading and books for mostly recreational purposes., La presente investigación tiene como objetivo identificar y caracterizar la aplicación de la biblioterapia en contexto hospitalario pediátrico en Santiago de Chile. Para ello, se utilizó metodología de tipo cualitativa, realizando entrevistas semi estructuradas a siete representantes de organizaciones vinculadas a los hospitales investigados. Se realizó un análisis de contenido, a través del cual se establecieron cuatro categorías - antecedentes y organización; características de las actividades relacionadas con el libro, la lectura y la biblioterapia metodología de las actividades relacionadas con el libro, la lectura y la biblioterapia; percepción sobre la biblioterapia – en las que se logró caracterizar las actividades realizadas en los centros hospitalarios. Entre los hallazgos más relevantes se pudo determinar que no hay una utilización formal de la biblioterapia como recurso terapéutico dentro de los hospitales investigados, sino más bien, una utilización de la lectura y los libros con fines mayoritariamente recreativos.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar los métodos y los contextos históricos de la destrucción intencional de libros en los siglos XX y XXl a través de una revisión sistematizada de la literatura. La búsqueda bibliográfica se realizó en: Scopus, Core, Google Scholar, Repositorios Latinoamericanos, Web of Science, Springer, Oxford, Unesco, E-lis, La Referencia, Jstor y Dialnet. Se seleccionaron 27 documentos para su análisis, a partir del cual se establecieron dos contextos en los que se produce la biblioclastia: Conflicto y No conflicto. Además, se identificaron tres técnicas con las que se destruyen los libros: Quema, Destrucción manual y Trituración. Se concluye que en el contexto Conflicto la causa principal de la biblioclastia es la censura por lo que representa el libro como medio de libertad de expresión. En el contexto No conflicto la destrucción es por motivos artísticos, vandálicos o por seguridad sanitaria. El método más usado es la quema de libros, relacionado con los contextos de conflictos y de seguridad (pandemia). Otros métodos fueron usados en menor medida, como la trituración.

Due to the increase in neurodivergent students in higher education and the strengthening of the neurodiversity paradigm as a social movement, academic libraries must consider these users. The objective of the present study was to identify - through a systematic literature review - the actions that academic libraries have implemented in collections and services to address the need to include neurodivergence, focusing especially on diagnoses of dyslexia, attention deficit and hyperactivity, and autism spectrum disorder. A bibliographic search was conducted in the databases Web of Science, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, E-LIS, EBSCO, Jstor, Wiley, Network of Latin American Repositories, Web of Science, Scopus, SpringerLink y and Emerald. Out of the 799 initial results, 36 final papers were selected to review. It may be concluded that the actions carried out by academic libraries are diverse and heterogeneous, both in their conception and in their execution, and vary widely depending on the institution in which the library is framed. Services have been the elements most adapted to neurodivergent users, while collections are the least considered when taking inclusion actions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La epicondilalgia lateral es una condición músculoesquelética bastante común, que se caracteriza por la presencia de dolor, disminución en la fuerza de prensión y pérdida progresiva de la funcionalidad de la mano. La acupuntura es un método terapéutico derivado de la medicina china tradicional, en donde se realiza estimulación de puntos corporales mediante agujas, con fines terapéuticos o preventivos. Algunos estudios han reportado que la acupuntura produce un beneficio a corto plazo sobre el dolor localizado en el epicóndilo lateral del codo; sin embargo, los beneficios que informan los estudios asociados a esta patología no logran ser concluyentes. Objetivo: resumir la evidencia existente en revisiones Cochrane y no Cochrane, buscando los efectos y beneficios de la acupuntura para el tratamiento del dolor en sujetos que presenten epicondilalgia lateral. Materiales y métodos: se realizó una búsqueda en el registro especializado Cochrane del grupo músculo-esquelético (1980-junio 2015) y en las bases de datos: Medline (1980-septiembre 2015), Pedro (1980- septiembre 2015), Metabuscador Epistemonikos (1980- septiembre 2015), se buscó literatura gris y actas de congresos. La calidad metodológica de las revisiones sistemáticas incluidas fueron evaluadas con AMSTAR y la calidad global de la evidencia mediante GRADE. Resultados: La búsqueda preliminar identificó 92 revisiones sistemáticas, de las cuales 2 cumplieron con los criterios de elegibilidad. Las 2 revisiones sistemáticas fueron categorizadas como de alta calidad metodológica. Tesis (Magíster en Docencia para la Educación Superior) Este proyecto de innovación docente se enmarca en el ámbito de la competencia genérica relacionada con la gestión de la información. Se propone una asignatura sello en gestión de la información para los estudiantes de pregrado de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Con esta finalidad, se elabora un programa de asignatura que es evaluado por expertos, y se realizan dos focus group con docentes de las áreas de ciencias y ciencias sociales de la institución, para conocer su opinión en relación a la necesidad de contar con una asignatura que desarrolle esta competencia. El enfoque metodológico que orienta el trabajo es el paradigma sociocrítico, mientras que el diseño metodológico es la investigación – acción. El proyecto está constituido por cuatro fases: Elaboración de la propuesta de asignatura de gestión de información a nivel curricular transversal, para los estudiantes de pregrado de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile, a través de la confección de un programa de asignatura. Evaluación de la propuesta mediante dos aspectos: validación del programa de asignatura, por juicio de expertos, e impacto de la propuesta a través de los focus group con docentes de la institución. Análisis de los resultados de la evaluación. Y finalmente rediseño de la propuesta. This teaching innovation project is situated in the scope of generic competences, specifically with the information management skills. It is proposed a subject about information management for undergraduate students of the University of Santiago de Chile. For this purpose, the subject program is prepared and then evaluated by experts. In addition two focus groups are held, with teachers from the areas of science and social sciences of the institution, to know their opinion about the need for a subject that develops this competence. The methodological approach that guides the work is the sociocritical paradigm, while the methodological design is the action research methodology. The project is made up of four phases: Preparation of the information management class proposal at the transversal curricular level, for undergraduate students of the University of Santiago, Chile, through the preparation of a subject program. Proposal evaluation through the validation of the subject program (by expert judgment) and the proposal impact through the focus group with teachers. Analysis of the evaluation results. And finally the proposal redesign.

In the present work, the Ibero-American scientific production of the category of Information Science & Library Science of the Web of Science between the years 2013 to 2017 is analyzed. The purpose is carrying out a multivariate analysis of this information to determine patterns of behavior of the countries. The main conclusions show that the Ibero-American countries have presented an increase of publications in the area of Information Science & Library Science, especially in Spain, Brazil, and Mexico. The following research seeks to describe the legal context that is limited to the public library in Latin America and the Caribbean, and identify through the literature review which of the elements in their laws could serve as a reference in the creation of a legal framework for Chilean public library. On the other hand, seeks to know through interviews, the perception of librarians, staff and other stakeholders involved in the management of public libraries in relation to the need to these libraries., La siguiente investigación busca conocer el contexto legal al que se circunscribe la biblioteca pública en Latinoamérica y el Caribe, e identificar a través de la revisión documental cuáles de los elementos presentes en sus leyes podría servir de referencia en la generación de un marco legal para la biblioteca pública chilena. Por otra parte, busca conocer por medio de entrevistas, la percepción de bibliotecarios, personal y otros actores vinculados a la gestión de las bibliotecas públicas en relación a la necesidad de una ley para este tipo de bibliotecas.

Predatory journals have been defined as a fraudulent model that takes advantage of the golden route implemented by some open access publications. These journals exploit the business of charging authors, promising quick and low-cost publication. However, they do not comply with the tasks of any scientific journal, such as peer review or digital preservation of original writings, and therefore they publish papers of questionable quality, methodology and reproducibility. For these reasons, this research aims to determine the level of knowledge that active researchers of the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM) have about predatory journals. For the study, a survey was used as a data collection instrument, which was sent to the active researchers from the UTEM. From the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that the UTEM researchers are familiar with the term predatory journals and can identify certain characteristics of these journals, such as the fact that they do not perform an adequate peer review process, offer a fast publication process at low cost, and have similar titles to those of renowned journals, in addition to being able to identify some tools for their detection. The article "Female, male, and mixed careers: stereotypes of choice" analyzes the evolution of gender enrollment in the Nutrition degree program in Chile from 2005 to 2022. It highlights that a high percentage of women make up the student sample of the program, reaching 86.4%. Although the percentage of men in the first year has increased, their presence in the overall sample remains low.
