We explore the stability of floating objects at a two-fluid interface through mathematical modeling and experimentation. Our models are based on standard ideas of center of gravity, center of buoyancy, and Archimedes' Principle extended to the two-fluid scenario. We investigate floating shapes with uniform, two-dimensional cross sections and identify analytically and/or computationally a potential energy landscape that helps identify stable and unstable floating orientations. We compare our analyses and computations to experiments on floating objects designed and created through 3D printing. Additionally, the paper includes open problems for further study. Gastro-retentive floating drug delivery systems (GRFDDS) have emerged as a significant advancement in enhancing the bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy of various medications. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of recent innovations in GRFDDS, highlighting their formulation strategies, mechanisms of buoyancy, and various applications in drug delivery. The role of various polymeric materials, gas-forming agents, and optimization techniques is discussed which are generally employed to develop effective floating systems. Additionally, keen insight is brought on applications of GRFDDS in treating gastrointestinal disorders, enhancing the pharmacokinetics of drugs with narrow absorption windows, and their potential in controlled-release formulations. In this review, authors compiled the recent reported literatures about the gastro-retentive floating drug delivery systems since 2015 to underline the effectiveness and safety profiles of these systems. In this work, a charge-based memristor emulator is designed using a single active current mode component Differential Voltage Current Conveyor Transconductance Amplifier with one capacitor and two resistors as passive components. Importantly, the proposed circuit topology can be changed to either grounded or floating configuration using a single switch. Moreover, the proposed memristor design can be operated either in incremental or decremental configuration by using another switch. Therefore, using only two switches, the same circuitry can be utilized to design the floating/grounded incremental/decremental memristor. The pinched hysteresis loop area can be controlled by applying different biasing voltages. Further, the mathematical analysis is performed to drive the theoretical TiO2 based results for the proposed memristor emulator. In addition, simulations confirming the theoretical analysis are conducted in PSPICE using the 180 nm TSMC technology with a supply voltage of ± 0.9 V by varying frequencies and capacitances to obtain a pinched hysteresis loop. The presented circuit performs effectively for frequencies upto 500 MHz while operating with grounded type memristor and 300 MHz with floating type design. To check the ability to remember the history of the proposed memristor, the non-volatility test is performed for both the incremental and decremental configurations. Background: The RNLI "Float to Live" campaign is based on research conducted in indoor pools with experienced open water swimmers. Study 1 investigated whether the RNLI "Float to Live" guidance would enable less experienced individuals to float in realistic open water conditions. Study 2 examined the separate effects of practice and coaching on floating competence. Methods: Study 1: Inexperienced water users conducted floats in either still, open fresh (n = 22) or open sea water (n = 13), followed by moving sea (n = 6) or fresh water (n = 5). Participants undertook three 2-min floats in still water wearing swimwear and one clothed float: 1) naïve; 2) following RNLI "Float to live" messaging; 3) individual float coaching; 4) simulated fall wearing summer clothing. In moving sea water, participants undertook two floats equivalent to Floats 3 and 4. In moving fresh water, participants undertook 3 floats: 1) naïve; 2) following "defensive floating" coaching; 3) simulated fall wearing summer clothing. Study 2: Two groups matched for skinfold thickness undertook three 2-min floats in a flume wearing swimwear. PRAC group (n = 12): 1) naïve; 2) following float practice; 3) float coaching; COACH group (n = 11) coaching followed by practice. Floating difficulty, confidence, competence, "efficiency" and perceived exertion were analysed using either a Friedman test or mixed model ANOVA. Results: In both fresh water and sea water, participants' floating competence and confidence increased after viewing the RNLI messaging, it was further improved with individualised float coaching. The additional helpful instructions included: 1) "head back with ears submerged"; 2) "relax"; 3) "breathe normally"; 4) "it is OK if your legs sink"; 5) an accurate description of sculling for "active" floaters that needed it; 6) spread arms and legs for stability. The simulated fall with clothing did not impair floating competence. No difference in floating competence was seen between PRAC and COACH, though confidence may be increased sooner in COACH. The present research aim is the formulation and invitro evaluation of the floating tablets of Paliperidone with natural polymers. The Paliperidone tablets were prepared by physical direct compression method using guar gum and xanthan gum as natural polymers and Sodium bicarbonates. All the developed formulations were evaluated for physicochemical parameters, buoyancy, drug content, in vitro dissolution, Kinetic models and drug stability studies. The results were obtained within the limits for all formulations. Among all the formulations PF4 showed the better buoyancy and drug release profiles. The transportation of immersed tubes is a pivotal phase in immersed tunnel projects, involving the Shenzhen -Zhongshan Link spanning approximately 50 km. Its floating transportation time is long, the waterway environment is complex, and the control is difficult. To ensure safe floating transportation under diverse waterway conditions, a floating measurement and control system for transporting steel-shell immersed tubes based on an integrated barge for transportation and installation was developed, which integrates digital and visual technologies to display of the tube's position and navigation parameters in real time. This system has introduced advanced marine navigation technology and has been successfully applied in the Shenzhen Zhongshan Link immersed tube transportation. Through this system, commanders and operators can monitor the tube'sreal -time position and floating transportation parameters, so as to complete the floating transportation efficiently and safely. In this paper, two floating memcapacitor emulator circuits, one based on a second-generation current conveyor (CCII) and the other on an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA), are proposed. The first floating memcapacitor contains a single CCII, one multiplier, and four transistors, while the second one comprises a single OTA, one multiplier, and only two transistors. External transistors are operated as electronically controllable grounded capacitors and resistors. Therefore, the inverse memcapacitances of the circuits are adjusted electronically by applying appropriate bias voltages. Both emulator circuits can be operated to have incremental or decremental characteristics. The analyses of frequency response, electronic adjustability, temperature behavior, and non-volatile behavior of the circuits, as well as Monte Carlo analysis, are performed. Furthermore, an adaptive learning circuit is utilized to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed memcapacitor. Additionally, the CCII-based emulator circuit is constructed on a printed circuit board using discrete circuit elements and tested experimentally. The non-volatility feature of the circuit was tested for both incremental and decremental memcapacitors. The simulation and experimental results agree with the expected results. Summary: In this paper, a new floating memcapacitor emulator that consists of a single multiplier and only four transistors without using passive elements is proposed. While two of these transistors work as MOS capacitors, two of them are used to provide transconductance gain. Moreover, the proposed memcapacitor operates at high frequencies thanks to having simple structures. Furthermore, fix and variable parts of memcapacitance can be tuned electronically by changing DC bias voltages. In order to investigate the performance of the proposed memcapacitor, simulation results are given for different operating frequencies, radical temperature changes, memory effects, and Monte Carlo analysis. Moreover, to confirm the practical realization of the proposed memcapacitor, the proposed floating memcapacitor is implemented by using commercial devices as AD633, ALD1106, and ALD1107. Experimental results of the proposed circuit are given for different operating frequencies and DC supply voltages. Also, a memcapacitor‐based circuit that emulates the relationship between the amoeba's locomotive speed and temperature is given as an application of the proposed memcapacitor. This article analyses Xiaolu Guo’s 2020 novel A Lover’s Discourse. It follows the novel’s unnamed protagonist, a young Chinese woman who moves to London, traces her journey through the concept of mooring. The article examines this notion of mooring through the intimate connections that the protagonist makes with the place that she lives in and through her relationship with her partner. Using the concept of moorings as a theoretical background, the article discusses what moorings mean for the protagonist. It focuses on the theme of floating and the idea of home to outline a pursuit of finding mooring that rests in the protagonist’s desire to belong in the world. Moorings, this article argues, are affective and represent an individual’s desire to belong. This desire is affected by the individual’s experiences in life, influencing their state of being and ways of living. For the unnamed protagonist, the expectation of mooring is rooted in the possibilities of the future where her sense of living is not lost and is retained along with her sense of being together with her companion.

Controlled drug delivery system (CDDS) allows active pharmaceutical agent (API) to be released over extended periods of time, ranging from days to months, by using drug-encapsulating devices. Such systems have a number of merits over conventional drug delivery techniques, including the ability to customize drug release rates, safeguard delicate medications, and improve patient comfort and compliance. Microspheres are suitable carriers for numerous controlled delivery applications owing to CDDS's high bioavailability, prolonged drug release features, biocompatibility and ability to encapsulate a wide range of medicines. This review paper discusses fabrication techniques for microparticles, preparation and characterization processes used to prepare these microspheres, various types of microspheres such as on the basis of drug release pattern (matrix, coated, reservoir) and on the basis of drug delivery system (mucoadhesive, floating, bio-adhesive, radioactive, polymeric, and magnetic, etc.), and the key variables affecting drug release rates from encapsulated particles. A coaxial counter-rotating rotor (CCRR), which has two rotors rotating in the opposite directions on the same axis, is seen as a promising technology for low-cost floating tidal current/ocean current power generation using single-point mooring, as the torques of the front and rear rotors are cancelled. In the evaluation and design of such turbines, there is a need for an accurate analysis method with a low computational load that considers the strong mutual induction between the two rotors placed close together. An individual rotor mutual induction (IRMI) method was developed in this study, aiming to significantly reduce the calculation time of conventional computational fluid dynamics (CFD), considering the mutual induction that are not considered in conventional modified blade element and momentum methods. In this method, the basic characteristics of the front and rear rotors are calculated in advance using full-model CFD. In calculations for the CCRR, in addition to these individual characteristics of each rotor, the interaction between the rotors is considered using the actuator disk model CFD calculated in advance. The condition where the torques of the front and rear rotors are cancelled is determined at the same time. This method was used to analyze models in which the front and rear rotors were approximately the same diameter and placed close together (10% of the rotor diameter). A comparison with the mixing plane model CFD revealed that they agree quite well when mutual induction is considered, although both the power and thrust are overcalculated when it is ignored. The simulation time of the IRMI would be almost counter-proportional to the numbers of TSR conditions to solve as compared with the CFD with the MP model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies the design of foundations built on thick compressible soft soil layers that are reinforced by floating columns. Based on a recent methodology, the suggested design combines the bearing capacity and settlement verifications to provide an optimized improvement area ratio (IAR). Then, an optimized length for the floating columns is obtained by introducing the admissible long-term settlement of the unreinforced compressible sublayers and assuming that the total short-term settlement vanishes at the end of project construction. This paper focuses on the variation in the consolidation settlement of the unreinforced compressible sublayer versus the length of the floating columns. The discussion of this design methodology highlights the feasibility of a potential reinforcement solution when producing a cost-effective design, which assures an optimized IAR within the reinforced upper layer and an optimized length for the floating columns. Using typical case history data, a parametric study showed that reinforcement with end-bearing columns is not required to control the admissible long-term settlement. Instead, the suggested design method enables the determination of the optimized length of the floating columns, which satisfies the admissible residual settlement and consolidation time. The comparison between the proposed results and numerical predictions by Plaxis 2D shows good agreement, which confirms the feasibility of an optimized length for floating columns and avoids the systematic adoption of end-bearing reinforcement in columns. The core intent of the existing effort was to explore a triple therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori. A hard gelatin capsule filled with metronidazole (MNZ) floating microspheres aided with Plantago ovata seed mucilage (POSM) and Clarithromycin (CMN) floating microspheres aided with Abelmoschus esculentus fruit mucilage (AEFM). These mucilages were adopted as they have gastro-protective actions. These microspheres were designed by a central composite design. The influence of polymers used was checked towards the drug entrapment efficacy and floating time was tallied as a response. The capsule also contains Pantoprazole sodium (PZS) enteric-coated mini-tablets. These minitablets were checked for the coating thickness as a response (Design Expert). The microspheres and the mini-tablets were gauged for tests and a positive response was reported. The study summarizes that microspheres of MNZ & CMN and PZS enteric-coated mini-tablets can be used to eradicate H. pylori effectively. This article explores the teaching of atmosphere for undergraduate geography students. Though many scholars have observed an "atmospheric turn" in the discipline, teaching atmosphere in human geography has received less attention. To this end, the article examines the design and delivery of a "floating workshop" that engaged students in thinking and feeling the meteorological and affective qualities of atmosphere. Practically, the floating workshop involved the preparation, launch and floating of two solar-powered balloon-like sculptures made by the international artistic community Aerocene. In contrast to practices of mapping or remote sensing with aerial devices like kites or drones that are familiar to geographical pedagogy, this creative practice-based workshop foregrounded sensual and affective observations of atmosphere, from the feeling of wind speeds to the transmission of emotions. This shared atmospheric experience and pedagogical experiment linked theory with practice, activated situated learning processes, and generated critical inquiry into the affective, aesthetic and material dimensions of air and atmosphere. Therefore, instead of deploying one-factor-at-a-time, design of experiments is becoming rampantly utilized in order to reduce the resources outflow. There are a copious of different smart designs which could be employed as design of experiments tools. Central composite and d-optimal designs were investigated in this paper. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the two designs and identify the most accurate design at analyzing, interpreting and making predictions with regards to the data offered. The aforementioned purpose was achieved by applying both designs to a preexisting study which sought to prolong the gastrointestinal retention of repaglinide tablets through deploying a full factorial design. Further optimization was performed using Design-Expert software after inducing an outlier point. Results R-squared, adjusted R-squared, predicted R-squared and adequate precision were computed in addition to acquiring diagnostics figures such as predicted versus actual, residual versus run, Box–Cox, contour plot and 3D surface plots. Model equations were also produced for each design. Results showed that both designs were successful at modeling the data both scoring r-squared values > 0.7 and adequate precision > 4 implying high fitting, prediction power and ability to navigate the experimental space using a reduced number of experimental runs. The d-optimal design obtained the least relative error of only 3.81%. Conclusions In conclusion, the d-optimal design provides a great tool for reduction of experimental testing which in turn diminishes resources consumption. Therefore, this design is favored to be enforced in the pharmaceutical sector.

Floating photovoltaic solar systems offer numerous advantages, including reduced land usage, diminished water evaporation, and lowered thermal losses compared to terrestrial installations. If widely adopted, this system has the potential to generate a staggering 10,600 TWh of electricity. The widespread implementation of this technology could curtail water evaporation by approximately 30%. Floating solar power plants operate at temperatures about 20°C cooler than their terrestrial counterparts, enabling floating panels to yield up to 33.3% more energy. Furthermore, floating photovoltaic systems exhibit an 18.18% greater efficacy in curbing greenhouse gas emissions compared to their land-based counterparts. The heightened adoption of this system is driven by diverse factors, including escalating energy demand, ecological concerns, land-use constraints, and water scarcity, all contributing to sustainability. Despite the manifold benefits of these systems, there exist drawbacks associated with this technology, such as heightened panel corrosion, challenges in cleaning, and potential adverse environmental impacts that need to be addressed. This study meticulously examines the merits and challenges of floating photovoltaic systems in comparison to land-based installations through the content analysis method, meticulously categorizing pertinent research within the existing literature. Tailored approaches to cooling and cleaning, suited to the distinct installation conditions and environments of these systems, are concisely outlined. Through a comprehensive literature review and a meticulous comparison of cooling methods, it has been ascertained that the application of such strategies for floating solar plants yields an efficiency increase of 5-7% in the short term. Consequently, this study furnishes an initial guide for researchers and designers engaged in the development of both floating and land-based solar photovoltaic systems.

Marine vessels like a public place need to comply with environmental health standards and safety standards. The Qeshm-Bandar Abbas path is considered as one of the busiest maritime routes in Hormozgan Province. Considering the high frequency of travel and the importance of observing environmental health standards, this study aims to investigate environmental health indicators related to the health of crew and passengers. Moreover, the level of compliance with the safety standards of passenger vessels on this route was evaluated. Furthermore, the environmental health and safety status of 31 vessels on the route was investigated using a self-made questionnaire. This questionnaire consisted of four parts that included the characteristics of the vessel, the crew and captain, and 59 questions about environmental health indicators, and the safety of the vessels. In order to complete the questionnaires, first, the captain and the crew were interviewed, then the checklist was completed through a personal visit. Finally, the data obtained from the checklist was analyzed with SPSS software. The results showed that as the floor of all the boats was washable, only 83.8% of them were washed daily. Besides, the safety indicators of the vessels were provided in most cases and were estimated to be quite favorable. The amount of standard provision in the presence of communication system and inspection of the floating rotating lights, were 3.90% and 8.96%, respectively. It is recommended to increase the level of environmental health indicators in the vessels, such as the type and number of sanitary facilities, and the optimal volume of waste storage containers, and also floating sewage treatment system should be reviewed and improved. The concrete inside the embedded rock-socketed steel pipe pile is prefabricated on land. After embedding the steel pipe piles, grouting for pile's sidewalls is carried out, and the grout material generates buoyancy on pile, leading to a risk of floating during the grouting process. Existing preventive measures are high in risk and low in efficiency. To address the issue of grout-induced floating in embedded rock-socketed steel pipe piles, a solution is proposed. It involves analyzing the forces during the grouting process, adding a certain amount of quick-setting agent to the grout material, optimizing the layout of the prefabricated grout pipeline, altering the grouting construction process, and rigorously controlling the construction procedures. This approach enables continuous one-time grouting for the segments along the rock wall and steel casing of the embedded rock-socketed steel pipe piles. Through on-site comparisons and verification of grouting process, as well as engineering applications, this method effectively resolves the problem of floating during grouting for embedded rock-socketed steel pipe piles. A floating/grounded memristor emulator having a single MOSFET connected to a first-order RC filter with high operating frequency is presented. The proposed memristor emulator is passive in nature and provides zero static power, and a few pW of dynamic power when input signal is applied. The emulator has been simulated using Cadence Virtuoso Spectre tool. The mathematical analysis substantiates the existence of the proposed memristor emulator and its incremental nature. With a layout area of 1.586 μ m 2 , the memristor emulator operates up to 80 MHz. The main contribution is the experimental verification of the proposed topology using discrete transistor, ALD1117 Dual P-channel enhancement MOSFET array and discrete elements in the form of an R–C tank circuit. The performance characteristics for its analog and digital applications have been simulated and verified in grounded as well as floating mode. This paper presented a flux controlled memristor using the most versatile analog block, a single Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp), an N-channel metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET), and four passive elements. The following benefits are offered by the suggested memristor design: (1) a lesser number of active and passive elements; (2) floating nature of the circuit; (3) wide-operating frequency range (200 Hz–20 kHz); and (4) simple and versatile design. The performance evaluation through simulation of the proposed memristor model including post-layout simulation of silicon components (Op-Amp and NMOS transistor (M )) is verified with Cadence Virtuoso tool using standard CMOS 90 nm technology. In addition, the application of the proposed memristor in the field of analog and digital are also shown in the paper. Background: Mirtazapine widely prescribed Antidepressant drug that belongs to BCS Class II drug with low solubility and high permeability characteristics. Aim: The Box Behnken design was used to statistically optimize the formulation on the efficacy of gastroretentive floating tablets of mirtazapine. The release exponent formulations F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F7, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, and F14 are proven to be Fickain diffusion, while the release exponent formulations F6, F8, and F15 are noticed to be non-Fickain diffusion. In the marketed (Mirtafresh 15-MD) tablet, 100% of the medicine is released in 20 min, 100% in the F9 formulation in 6.5 hr, and 100% in the optimized formulation in 12 hr. The obtained optimized formulation underwent statistical optimization to ensure that it satisfied all of the dissolution criteria to validate the theoretical prediction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The overwhelming number of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) combined with a nursing staff deficit sometimes requires the redeployment of nurses from other areas, meaning non‐critical care nurses are asked to assist in treating critically ill patients. This may affect patient safety, especially in poorly resourced ICUs with financial constraints, such as in some developing countries. Nurses and nurse managers need specific strategies to address this issue and ensure patient safety. Aim: To explore ICU and floating nurses' perspectives of the floating experience and describe how the use of floating nurses could threaten the safety of patients in Egyptian ICUs. Study Design: This was a qualitative descriptive study. Data were collected in in‐depth interviews and analysed using Colaizzi's method of analysis. Forty‐seven interviews were conducted, 22 with ICU nurses/managers and 25 with floating nurses. Results: Two main themes were extracted: (1) Lived work experience of floating and ICU nurses during the floating period which included three subthemes: Being a floating nurse: living a double experience of a professional role, Being an ICU nurse: feeling overloaded, and small failures leading to bigger, more serious issuses; and (2) Messages for patient safety from floating and ICU nurses' perspectives which also comprised three subthemes: education and training, putting the patient in the safety zone, and poilcy reform. Conclusions: Promising strategies for ICUs to ensure patient safety when transferring nurses from other units include providing ongoing education and appropriate training for floating nurses to put patients in the safety zone. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Our findings provide a foundation for nursing practitioners, managers, and policymakers to prevent medical errors and optimize nursing workforce allocation. Nursing managers should consider floating nurses' competence levels when assigning ICU patients. Moreover, teamwork and communication between ICU nurses/managers and floating nurses should be strengthened. Many emerging economies have significantly changed their economic policies by adopting floating exchange rate regimes. In this sense, we examine their effect on the Middle East North African (MENA) region, and based on similarities and differences in macroeconomic structure and fundamentals, the potential effect on the Moroccan economy would be projected. The study provides an overview of the MENA region's experience with exchange rate regimes, looking at their historical development and effects on regional economic stability and growth. If the adoption of floating exchange rate regimes for the emerging economies in the MENA region has benefits including enhanced flexibility, decreased vulnerability to external shocks, and increased competitiveness; however, the considered countries recognize difficulties in setting them up and running them, as well as the requirement for supportive policy measures. This paper underlines the significance of additional research to examine the effects of floating exchange rate regimes on other MENA economies, mainly Morocco, and to determine the most efficient policy measures to maximize the advantages of this regime. A coaxial counter-rotating rotor (CCRR), which has two rotors rotating in the opposite directions on the same axis, is seen as a promising technology for low-cost floating tidal current/ocean current power generation using single-point mooring, as the torques of the front and rear rotors are cancelled. In the evaluation and design of such turbines, there is a need for an accurate analysis method with a low computational load that considers the strong mutual induction between the two rotors placed close together. An individual rotor mutual induction (IRMI) method was developed in this study, aiming to significantly reduce the calculation time of conventional computational fluid dynamics (CFD), considering the mutual induction that are not considered in conventional modified blade element and momentum methods. In this method, the basic characteristics of the front and rear rotors are calculated in advance using full-model CFD. In calculations for the CCRR, in addition to these individual characteristics of each rotor, the interaction between the rotors is considered using the actuator disk model CFD calculated in advance. The condition where the torques of the front and rear rotors are cancelled is determined at the same time. This method was used to analyze models in which the front and rear rotors were approximately the same diameter and placed close together (10% of the rotor diameter). A comparison with the mixing plane model CFD revealed that they agree quite well when mutual induction is considered, although both the power and thrust are overcalculated when it is ignored. The simulation time of the IRMI would be almost counter-proportional to the numbers of TSR conditions to solve as compared with the CFD with the MP model.

Banana micropropagation allows the production of vigorous and high-quality phytosanitary plants, which can be improved with the use of endophytic growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) that stimulate the growth and development of plants. It is possible to associate them with hydroponics, allowing a high supply of seedlings and reducing the production cycle. The objective was to evaluate the effect of PGPB in a floating hydroponic system in the acclimatization phase of banana. The cultivars studied were Prata Anã and BRS Princesa. The treatments evaluated were as follows: control (nutrient broth without bacteria); Bacillus cereus strain 1 (BC1); Bacillus cereus strain 2 (BC2); Bacillus thuringiensis (BT); Buttiauxella agrestis (BA). Total height, pseudostem diameter, root length, number of leaves, fresh root mass, pseudostem, leaf and leaf area, stomatal conductance, internal carbon concentration, photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, leaf temperature and chlorophyll. Bacteria B. cereus strain 2 and B. agrestis in the cultivar Prata Anã and B. agrestis in BRS Princesa improved the acclimatization process of the seedlings in a floating hydroponic system. Stimulating plant growth, fresh weight and promoting root growth. The association of bacteria and hydroponics allowed the reduction of the seedling acclimatization period from 90 to 25 (Prata Anã) and 15 days (BRS Princesa). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photovoltaics (PV) is a cost-competitive and scalable technology for electricity generation that plays a crucial role to accelerate the European energy transition and achieve carbon neutrality. Large-scale installation of rooftop PV, as well as innovative PV applications such as floating PV coupled with hydropower and bifacial PV along roads and railways, offer multi-benefits, not least in reducing competition for land. In this study, we present a geospatial approach to assess the pan-European technical potential of these three applications, using publicly available datasets. The findings reveal that the PV total installed capacity could exceed 1 TWp, which is far larger than the total PV capacity for 2030 in the EU Solar Energy Strategy (720 GWp) and would be a significant contribution to the several TWs needed for the overall transition to net-zero by 2050. The evidence presented is a useful starting point for policy-setting at national and regional level, as well as for research and detailed analyses of location specific solutions.

Twin rotors concentric face-gear power-split transmission system (TRCFGPSTS) is a new and more advanced main reducer configuration of the high-speed helicopter. Its load-sharing performance between different branches has a great impact on the service life performance. Its load distribution is complex, and the research on the influence law of error on load-sharing performance is not clear. Therefore, to study the influence of system error and pinions floating on the mechanical properties of the system, the static load-sharing mathematical model of the system was established. The load-sharing model comprehensively considers the factors of manufacturing error (ME) and installation error (IE), meshing stiffness, torsional stiffness, support stiffness and member floating. The coordination conditions of torsional angle elastic deformation of the system with central displacement offset and the mechanical balance conditions under the action of elastic support and floating support are derived, which reflects the change law of load distribution from the perspective of the system as a whole. The load-sharing model is solved by the least square method. The load-sharing coefficient (LSC) of the system is obtained. The influence of ME, IE and floating pinions on load-sharing performance is analyzed. The results show that the LSC shows irregular periodic fluctuation under the combined action of error, and the LSC is 1.212. Under the single influence of ME, the LSC also shows irregular periodic fluctuation, and the LSC is 1.610. Under the single influence of IE, the LSC presents a constant influence law, and the LSC is 1.326. The error of each gear in the III-stage has the most obvious influence on the load-sharing characteristics. The LSC of I-stage and II-stage floating pinion under the single influence are 1.113 and 1.120, respectively. The floating gear can significantly improve the load-sharing performance, and meet the load-sharing at the ±5 % service requirement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Floating platforms are complex structures used in deep water and high wind speeds. However, a methodology should be defined to have a stable offshore structure and not fail dynamically in severe environmental conditions. This paper aims to provide a method for estimating failure load or ultimate load on the anchors of floating systems in integrating wind and tidal turbines in New Zealand. Using either wind or tidal turbines in areas with harsh water currents is not cost-effective. Also, tidal energy, as a predictable source of energy, can be an alternative for wind energy when cut-in speed is not enough to generate wind power. The most expensive component after the turbine is the foundation. Using the same foundation for wind and tidal turbines may reduce the cost of electricity. Different environment scenarios as load cases have been set up to test the proposed system's performance, capacity and efficiency. Available tidal records from the national institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) have been used to find the region suitable for offshore energy generation and to conduct simulation model runs. Based on the scenarios, Terawhiti in Cook Strait with 110 m water height was found as the optimized site. It can be seen that the proposed floating hybrid system is stable in the presence of severe environmental conditions of wind and wave loadings in Cook Strait and gives a procedure for sizing suction caisson anchors.

There are two common problems in the application of rubber aggregate concrete (RAC). One problem is that the rubber aggregate floats easily, which leads to a reduction in the workability of the mixture and delamination of the matrix. Another problem is that the mechanical properties of RAC are greatly reduced after hardening due to the poor interfacial bonding between rubber and the cement matrix (R–C). In this study, a novel modification method of waste rubber powder (WRP) combining mechanochemistry action, ultrasonic energy accumulation and the coating effect was proposed. The particle size distribution, specific surface area, hydrophilicity, morphology and structure of rubber were characterized by a laser particle size analyser, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), etc. The distribution of WRP in the cement-based materials was determined. The interfacial bonding and microstructure of R–C were analysed by SEM. The compressive and flexural strengths of cement-based materials with different contents of rubber were studied. The results showed that the R–C interface was significantly improved, and rubber particles were uniformly distributed in the cement mortar. The particle size of rubber particles showed a standard normal distribution, the surface cracks and pores were filled and coated, and the hydrophilic angle decreased from 94.6° to 68.0°. The cracks and voids of the R–C interface disappeared, and the compressive and flexural strengths of the mortar increased by 70% and 50%, respectively. The R–C interface and the distribution of rubber particles were found to play a major role in influencing the mechanical properties of RAC.

Sphyracephala detrahens (Walker, 1860) (Diptera: Diopsidae) inhabits the riparian zones of streams and rivers. Because of the limited dispersal ability of S. detrahens during egg, larval, and pupal stages, immature individuals are at risk of being submerged by floodwater after heavy rain. In this study, I evaluated the submergence tolerances of immatures of S. detrahens by comparing them to immatures of Drosophila melanogaster, which also feed on rotten fruits but are not restricted to the riparian zone. The results showed that S. detrahens eggs were susceptible to desiccation, but more than 80% of eggs hatched after full submergence. Later instar larvae were more resistant to full submergence than earlier instar larvae. The duration of submergence causing 50% pupation (PD50) in the first, second, and third‐instar larvae of S. detrahens were 15.88, 58.46, and 91.74 h, respectively. The PD50 of the third‐instar larvae of D. melanogaster was 20.01 h. Third‐instar S. detrahens larvae continued to develop in water for a longer duration than D. melanogaster larvae of the same instar. In the pupal stages, late pupae tended to remain afloat longer than early pupae. The duration of submergence causing 50% emergence (ED50) of adults from early and late pupae were 40.70 and 104.74 h, respectively. In the larval and pupal stages, individuals in the later developmental phases tended to be more tolerant to full submergence. The submergence tolerance of the immature stages of S. detrahens may reflect adaptation to an environment with fluctuating water levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a simple decremental/incremental meminductor emulator circuit using a voltage differencing gain amplifier, a current differencing buffered amplifier, and two grounded capacitors. The key features of the proposed circuit are design simplicity, implementation without using resistors and memristors, and its workability in both grounded and floating configurations. The operating frequency over which the proposed meminductor emulators work satisfactorily is extended up to 10 MHz. The comparison of the proposed meminductor emulator with the existing emulators has also been included. The design and simulation of the proposed meminductor emulator have been done in the Mentor Graphics Eldo simulation tool using 0.18 µm process technologies. The mathematical analysis of the proposed meminductor emulator is included and the performance has been verified in the application of an adaptive learning circuit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
