Mental problems are disorders whose incidence is increasing with the effect of the global crises experienced in the world today and which significantly reduce the functionality of the individual. Depression draws attention as the most common mental problem. An average of two-thirds of individuals diagnosed with depression cannot receive treatment due to treatment cost, transportation, stigma, lack of information, low perceived need for treatment, and barriers to seeking mental health help.Internet-based interventions can offer highly effective and advantageous suggestions to overcome the disadvantages created by these barriers. As an internet-based intervention, Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) is an intervention design that aims to provide the right type and intensity of support at the right time by adapting to the changing internal and contextual situation of the individual. This intervention has emerged from the need to use mobile health in general, to address situations of vulnerability for adverse health outcomes, and to take advantage of rapid, unexpected, ecologically emerging situations of opportunity. In general, the mechanisms of JITAIs include 6 key elements: vulnerability/opportunity situation, distal outcome, proximal outcomes, decision points, intervention options, adaptation of variables and decision rules. Considering the potential rise of depression, especially in relation to new global events (e.g., pandemics and economic downturns), this application, which can be considered as a scalable, fully automated self-administered biopsychosocial transdiagnostic digital intervention, can provide widespread benefits. In this study, we focus on the working principles and advantages of JITAIs in general.

Cognitive evolution, as the core subject of fields like paleoanthropology, cognitive archeology, and neuropsychology, has begun to gain more interest in psychology in recent years. Executive functions are viewed from the perspective of cognitive evolution as basic advancements that are crucial to the evolution of language and contemporary cognition. As a metaphor, executive functions refer to advanced cognitive processes (working memory, inhibition, organization, cognitive flexibility, etc.) in the context of complex goal-directed behaviors. Sophisticated cognitive traits like executive functions emerged because of solutions to adaptive issues (survival, reproduction, and social group life) that human ancestors confronted over millions of years and passed them on to their offspring. Although it is accepted that Homo sapiens owes its evolutionary success to Paleolithic living conditions, explaining this process has not always been easy. In this review article, general information about executive functions is presented, followed by a review of scientific explanations about the evolution of executive functions. Evaluations have shown that these alternative scientific explanations based on archaeological, anthropological, and neuropsychological evidence for the evolutionary origins of executive functions do not fit all the pieces of the puzzle. It is believed that novel research models will clarify which of these alternative explanations are proximate causes and which are ultimate causes.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of mobile app-based educational information on anxiety, distress, and quality of life in patients with breast cancer (BC). Materials and Methods: This mobile app was designed to assist patients before and after BC surgery. This randomized controlled study was conducted between April and August 2021. The intervention group (n = 42) received routine care and access to the mobile app for one month, while the control group (n = 40) received only routine care. Data were collected using questionnaires one week before and three weeks after surgery. Results: The patients in the intervention group, after using the mobile app, had significantly lower anxiety and distress levels than those in the control group (p0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that using informative mobile apps starting before surgery can effectively reduce anxiety and distress in the early periods after surgery. Although the impact on overall quality of life was insignificant, such interventions may have long-term positive effects on quality of life.

The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that prevent park and recreation area users in Düzce from engaging in physical activity and the factors that inhibit their choice of location. While the population of this study consisted of park and recreation area visitors over the age of 15 in Düzce, the sample group consisted of 290 individuals selected using the method of convenience sampling. To collect data "Physical activity space rating scale (FAMDO)" (Gümüş et al., 2015) was used. The scale has two subdimensions and thirty-three items. The first sub-dimension of the scale is comprised of factors that influence the selection of a physical activity venue, and the second sub-dimension is comprised of factors that inhibit the frequency of physical activity participation. The scale, which was preperad in a computer environment, was distributed online via Google forms to the participants. After determining that the data were reliable, a normality analysis was performed to determine which analyses would be applied to the data. On the basis of the results of analyses of reliability and normality, descriptive statistics were conducted first. Using the Independent Sample T test and ANOVA, the differences between the variables were examined. Consequently, when the participants' preferences for visiting these areas were examined, "spending time," "sitting / resting," and "psychological relaxation" ranked first, second, and third, respectively. Examining the results of the analysis reveals that there is a difference between high school, undergraduate, and graduate graduates and primary school graduates on both subdimensions. Furthermore, it has been determined that single people prefer these areas more than married people. According to the findings of the study, individuals with chronic diseases prefer these areas less than those without chronic diseases.

Objective:This study aims to identify the problems experienced by women undergoing assisted reproductive treatment due to progesterone use, as well as their coping strategies. Methods:The study included 145 women who were admitted to an infertility outpatient clinic of a university hospital between July 25 and August 8, 2022. The researchers collected data using a questionnaire designed to assess the problems that might arise due to the use of various types of progesterone-containing drugs and coping methods. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistics in the SPSS program. Results:The mean age of the women was 30.76±5.53 years, and the mean duration of their marriages was 6.6±4.51 years. Of women 64.8% had primary infertility and 68.3% of women underwent assisted reproductive treatment (ART) at least once before. Women who received intramuscular progesterone treatment during ART frequently experienced pain, swelling, abscess, redness at the injection site. Women who received progesterone treatment vaginally experienced vaginal wetness, drying of the drug in the vagina, lumps, the drug leaving the body, the drug not being completely absorbed, vaginal itching. Women who received progesterone treatment orally experienced sleepiness, nausea, dizziness, headache, fatigue. Women coped with these problems using various methods. Conclusion:The study revealed that women undergoing ART experienced many problems related to the use of progesterone and they attempted to address these issues through their own means. It is necessary to inform patients and to plan nursing interventions to minimize/eliminate these problems.

Abstract Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell malignancy characterised by aberrant production of immunoglobulins requiring survival mechanisms to adapt to proteotoxic stress. We here show that glutamyl-prolyl-tRNA synthetase (GluProRS) inhibition constitutes a novel therapeutic target. Genomic data suggest that GluProRS promotes disease progression and is associated with poor prognosis, while downregulation in MM cells triggers apoptosis. We developed NCP26, a novel ATP-competitive ProRS inhibitor that demonstrates significant anti-tumour activity in multiple in vitro and in vivo systems and overcomes metabolic adaptation observed with other inhibitor chemotypes. We demonstrate a complex phenotypic response involving protein quality control mechanisms that centers around the ribosome as an integrating hub. Using systems approaches, we identified multiple downregulated proline-rich motif-containing proteins as downstream effectors. These include CD138, transcription factors such as MYC, and transcription factor 3 (TCF3), which we establish as a novel determinant in MM pathobiology through functional and genomic validation. Our preclinical data therefore provide evidence that blockade of prolyl-aminoacylation evokes a complex pro-apoptotic response beyond the canonical integrated stress response and establish a framework for its evaluation in a clinical setting.

An important question in representative democracies is how to ensure that politicians behave in the best interest of citizens rather than their own private interests. Aside from elections, one of the few institutional devices available to regulate the actions of politicians is their pay structure. In this paper, we provide fresh insights into the impact of politician salaries on their performance using a unique law change implemented in 2012 in Turkey. Specifically, the members of the parliament (MPs) in Turkey who are retired from their pre-political career jobs earn a pension bonus on top of their MP salaries. The law change in 2012 significantly increased the pension bonus by pegging it to 18 percent of the salary of the President of Turkey, while keeping the salaries of non-retired MPs unchanged. By exploiting the variation in total salaries caused by the new law in a difference-in-differences framework, we find that the salary increase had a negative impact on the performance of the retired MPs. In particular, the overall performance of these MPs was lowered by 12.3 percent of a standard deviation as a result of the increase in salary caused by the new law. This finding is robust to numerous specification tests. Furthermore, the results obtained from an auxiliary analysis suggest that one of the mechanisms through which MPs reduce their performance is through absenteeism.

An ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury of small intestine is a serious and common condition that is a result of the blockage of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) due to some significant clinical problems. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of Mesna on systemic injury induced by IR in small intestine and liver, kidney and lung of rats. Thirty-two Wistar albino female rats were randomly divided into four groups as control, ischemia, IR (Sham) and IR+Mesna. Ischemia period was executed by clamping SMA for 2 h and after when reperfusion was permitted by removing the clamp from SMA for 2 h. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) activities were measured spectrophotometrically in the tissues. Microscopic examination was performed with Hematoxylin-Eosin (H amp;E) staining for light microscopy and double staining (Uranyl acetate and Reynolds’lead citrate) for electron microscopy. Oxidative damage was determined in ischemia (p lt; 0.05) and IR groups (p lt; 0.05) by Chiu score in small intestine and also antioxidant enzyme activities in all groups. Significant recovery in SOD, GPx and CAT activities in IR+Mesna group was determined but the effect of oxidative damage was not reduced significantly histopatologically. Mesna treatment caused recovery in SOD, GPx and CAT activities but not achieved an improvement in the histopathologic findings in level of light microscopy in IR damages but contains the signs of improving at electron microscopy level in Mesna dose and application time of IR.

The aim of this study was to examine the past events that create a turning point in life and fictional events that can create a turning point in the context of narrative meaning-making style, psychological state and gender. The sample of the study consists of 81 non-clinical volunteers between the ages of 18-35, undergraduate students/graduates. In the study, the participants were asked to write a total of four autobiographical memories, two of which were about the past and two about the future. To measure the psychological state, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Adult Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS), Psychological Wellbeing Scale (PWS), Social Comparison Scale (SCS), Ideal and Real Self-Concept Scale (IRSCS) were applied. As a result of the statistical analysis, thematic coherence in positive memories was found to be associated with scores of BAI in women; with PWS, PRS, and SCS in men and factual elaboration was found to be associated with PRS in women. Interpretative elaboration in negative memories predicted the scores of IRSCS, agency PWS and SCS scores in males.Interpretive elaboration in positive fictional narratives in women with BAI and BDI; with BDI in men; seeking support in negative memories was observed to be associated with BAI in women and BDI in men. In conclusion, the relationships between the meaning-making process and the psychological state have a very specific and complex mechanism, and thematic coherence is a strong predictor of psychological well-being and self-concept. In women, factual elaboration was associated with resilience, and in negative memories, self-connections were associated with the level of social comparison. Women preferred to tell more negative memories, while men preferred more positive memories, and motivational themes came to the fore in men's narratives.

Diabetes is a worldwide evolving disease with many associated complications, one of which is delayed or impaired wound healing. Appropriate wound healing strongly relies on the inflammatory reaction directly after injury, which is often altered in diabetic wound healing. After an injury, neutrophils are the first cells to enter the wound site. They have a special defense mechanism, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), consisting of released DNA coated with antimicrobial proteins and histones. Despite being a powerful weapon against pathogens, NETs were shown to contribute to impaired wound healing in diabetic mice and are associated with amputations in diabetic foot ulcer patients. The anti-diabetic drugs metformin and liraglutide have already been shown to regulate NET formation. In this study, the effect of insulin was investigated. NET formation after stimulation with PMA (phorbol myristate acetate), LPS (lipopolysaccharide), or calcium ionophore (CI) in the presence/absence of insulin was analyzed. Insulin led to a robust delay of LPS- and PMA-induced NET formation but had no effect on CI-induced NET formation. Mechanistically, insulin induced reactive oxygen species, phosphorylated p38, and ERK, but reduced citrullination of histone H3. Instead, bacterial killing was induced. Insulin might therefore be a new tool for the regulation of NET formation during diabetic wound healing, either in a systemic or topical application.

With digitalization, social media is one of the tools that both individuals and institutions have been able to cope continuously in almost every aspect of life. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are important social platforms for the transmission of requests from the public to local and general administration. NGOs, which are guaranteed to serve local and general government under a strong phenomenon of democracy, continue to be indispensable actors of society with their voluntary services. NGOs, on the other hand, play an important role in the fact that people in different cultures, beliefs and opinions who are part of society can make their voices heard and be visible in society. In increasing these visibilities, social media is an indispensable communication tool for NGOs, just like individuals and other institutions. In this study, it is thought that social media plays an important role in the context of the construction of socio-cultural identity, as well as the media where they announce their activities for NGOs. Especially culturally and religiously, NGOs have the opportunity to increase their visibility in society. At this point, the social media posts of the KKTC Alevi Cultural Center Association and Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association NGOs representing Alevis, which are part of socio-cultural society, were selected with sample technique for official Facebook pages and an annual [July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020] content analysis was carried out for the sharing of these associations on their official Facebook pages. From here, it has been determined that through these shares, the associations contribute to the formation of socio-cultural identity through social media usage practices. In northern Cyprus, the inclusion of limited studies on NGOs is culturally and religiously important for representing a certain segment of society, and this study on Alevi associations is important to contribute to the literature.

Nowadays, the most critical agriculture-related problem is the harm caused in fruit, vegetable, nut, and flower crops by harmful pests, particularly the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata, named in short as Medfly. Medfly existence in agricultural fields must be monitored systematically for effective combat against it. Special traps are utilized in the field to catch Medflies which will reveal their presence, and applying pesticides at the right time will help reduce their population. A technologically supported automated remote monitoring system should eliminate frequent site visits as a more economical solution. In this paper, a machine learning system that can detect Medfly images on a picture and count their numbers is developed. A special trap equipped with an integrated camera that can take photos of the sticky band where Medflies are caught daily is utilized. Obtained pictures are then transmitted by an electronic circuit containing a SIM card to the central server where the object detection algorithm runs. This study employs a faster region-based convolutional neural network (Faster R-CNN) model in identifying trapped Medflies. When Medflies or other insects stick on the sticky band of the trap, they continue to spend extraordinary effort trying to release themselves in a panic until they die. Therefore, their shape is badly distorted as their bodies, wings, and legs are all buckled. The challenge here is that the machine learning system should detect these Medflies of distorted shape with high accuracy. Therefore, it is crucial to utilize pictures that contain trapped Medfly images that possess distorted shapes for training and validation. In this paper, the success rate in identifying Medflies when other insects are also present is approximately 94% that is achieved by the machine learning system training process, owing to the considerable amount of purpose-specific photographic data. This rate may be seen as quite favorable when compared to the success rates provided in the literature.

The painful transition process from modernism to postmodernism makes its impact felt in the field of globalization as well. Advances in technology have overcome the difficulties experienced in mass production and accessing global markets, enabling the integration of more local markets into the global economy. However, the rapid increase in participants made it difficult to compete in the global market, and the proliferation of different local markets caused cultural differences to become more evident. The study examines the contribution of creative industries and glocalization strategies to the resolution of the global-local conflict, by considering them together. In this study, the findings were analyzed by using the literature review and the survey method together. A total of 310 people, 145 men and 165 women, participated in the survey in Janury 2019. In the case of Turkey, the research shows that there is a positive correlation between the customer experience created by the global brand by considering the cultural, economic and political data of the local society and the level of ad appreciation.

The Bayindir geothermal system is located to the northern margin of the Kucuk Menderes Graben. The reservoir rocks of the geothermal system are calc schists and marbles of Triassic metamorphic formation. The system is controlled by active graben faults. The geothermal field is of low enthalpy and the surface temperature of the hot waters is 42-46 degrees C. The temperature of the reservoir is 55-118 degrees C. Chemical and isotopic data indicate that the thermal waters are mixed with meteoric, shallow cycling and cold underground water. The Sariyurt Pb-Zn mineralisation, with probable reserves estimated in the 1970s as 860 000 tonnes grading 2.76% Pb and 3.7% Zn, is located in the collecting area but does not cause natural or artificial heavy metal pollution of the waters., The Bayindir geothermal system is located to the northern margin of the Kucuk Menderes Graben.

Plants are exposed to stress conditions depending on the lack of adaptation when unfavourable conditions occur in their environment. One of these stress conditions is heavy metal pollution. Defence systems are activated in order to protect cells under stress conditions and keep the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under control and to eliminate ROS. Phenolic compounds are effective compounds for eliminating and neutralizing free radicals. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of the short-term application (1 and 5 days) of arsenic, cadmium and lead (15μM, 30μM and 60μM mixtures) to a wheat species that was registered by Trakya Agricultural Research Institute in 2014 on phenolic contents.

Monolithic NbB2, NbB2-SiC, and NbB2-SiC-GNP samples were produced by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and the effects of additives on the mechanical and thermal properties, microstructures, and oxidation behavior of the samples were investigated. The addition of SiC up to 30 vol% decreased the Vickers hardness of the binary composites due to microcrack formation. The fracture toughness and oxidation resistance of NbB2 were improved with the incorporation of SiC. Fracture toughness was higher for all the composites in comparison to monolithic NbB2, moreover the highest value of ~5.2 MPa·m1/2 exhibited by 3 vol% GNP-containing composite. A strong interface and homogeneous distribution of GNPs enhanced the thermal transfer properties and improved the oxidation resistance of selected NbB2-SiC ceramics in oxidation studies at 1200°C. A combination of high mechanical properties, high thermal conductivity, and low mass gain was achieved for the NbB2-SiC-GNP samples with 1 and 3 vol% GNPs.
