23. Interpersonal and Attitudinal Factors in Women's Work Role: Cross-Cultural Comparison.

McIntyre, Teresa Mendonca and Figueiredo, Barbara
- Abstract
The last four decades have seen a dramatic increase in the number of women entering employment. This is particularly true in Europe and although more European women are working outside the home, the patterns of female employment have changed very little. An analysis of these patterns is presented. It was found that women continue to dominate specific fields, particularly teaching and service providing. An investigation of the interpersonal behavior differences among 117 American women from the southeastern United States in three work roles--homemakers, women in traditional occupations, and in nontraditional occupations--was conducted and the sex-role orientation, attitudes toward success, and demographic indicators were examined in order to consider the interplay of these variables with female occupational role and interpersonal behavior. A second focus of the study is on the cross-cultural comparison of the psychological and work variables in women of two different cultures: America and Portugal. Thirty-one Portuguese women were a preliminary comparison sample. The American results showed significant differences between groups in self-perceived interpersonal behaviors and the findings contradicted current stereotypes. The cross-cultural data, although preliminary, indicates differences between the countries in social desirability, aggressive and assertive behaviors, and in sex-role attitudes, which seem to reflect the different stages of economic development. - Abstract
Item 10 of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) is intended to assess thoughts of intentional self-harm but may also elicit concerns about accidental self-harm. It does not specifically address suicide ideation but, nonetheless, is sometimes used as an indicator of suicidality. The 9-item version of the EPDS (EPDS-9), which omits item 10, is sometimes used in research due to concern about positive endorsements of item 10 and necessary follow-up. We assessed the equivalence of total score correlations and screening accuracy to detect major depression using the EPDS-9 versus full EPDS among pregnant and postpartum women. We searched Medline, Medline In-Process and Other Non-Indexed Citations, PsycINFO, and Web of Science from database inception to October 3, 2018 for studies that administered the EPDS and conducted diagnostic classification for major depression based on a validated semi-structured or fully structured interview among women aged 18 or older during pregnancy or within 12 months of giving birth. We conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis. We calculated Pearson correlations with 95% prediction interval (PI) between EPDS-9 and full EPDS total scores using a random effects model. Bivariate random-effects models were fitted to assess screening accuracy. Equivalence tests were done by comparing the confidence intervals (CIs) around the pooled sensitivity and specificity differences to the equivalence margin of delta = 0.05. Individual participant data were obtained from 41 eligible studies (10,906 participants, 1407 major depression cases). The correlation between EPDS-9 and full EPDS scores was 0.998 (95% PI 0.991, 0.999). For sensitivity, the EPDS-9 and full EPDS were equivalent for cut-offs 7-12 (difference range - 0.02, 0.01) and the equivalence was indeterminate for cut-offs 13-15 (all differences - 0.04). For specificity, the EPDS-9 and full EPDS were equivalent for all cut-offs (difference range 0.00, 0.01). The EPDS-9 performs

To investigate clinical studies that evaluated the relationship between endodontic changes and patients in need of liver or kidney transplants compared to patients without the need for transplantation. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. Two independent authors carried out an electronic search in the main databases until December 2022. Clinical studies that evaluated endodontic alterations in transplanted patients were included in this work. There was no publication date restriction. The risk of bias was assessed according to a scale modified for studies not randomized to human studies (MINORS). Of the 87 retrieved studies, 11 studies were included. Two cross-sectional studies evaluated the interrelationship between the need for liver transplantation and endodontic alterations. Nine studies evaluated the relationship between kidney transplantation and endodontic alterations; two studies did not find a relationship between pulpal calcification and these patients, however, another three studies found a relationship between the chronicity of the actual disease and the narrowing of the pulp chamber. A low risk of bias was found for most of the included studies. Two studies did not provide justification for the sample size. All studies clearly presented the groups, analysis protocol and adequate statistical analysis. Few clinical studies have evaluated the interrelationship between patients in need of liver transplantation and endodontic alterations; studies that evaluated the interrelationship between patients in need of kidney transplantation found a relationship mainly with the narrowing of the pulp chamber, but no relationship with pulp calcifications.

This scoping review aims to review the literature to investigate the content and microbiological location in cases of surgically treated endodontic failure. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement and the review focused on the following evidence-based practice question: “What is the location and microbial content present in cases of surgically treated endodontic failure?”. Two independent authors performed an electronic search in the following databases PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Library until up to December 2020. A total of 2042 articles were found in the database search, and 17 studies were included in this review. In 11 of these studies, the surgical procedure was apicectomy, followed by extraction with curettage. The number of samples analyzed varied between 1 and 95 teeth and mainly anterior teeth. Most patients evaluated in the studies had pain and edema as the main symptoms. The number of bacterial species found in the samples was very significant, but Actinomyces, Streptococcus and Enterococcus were a common denominator in almost all studies. Most of the studies found bacteria in the periapical lesion or in extraradicular biofilms. 7 studies identified the presence of bacteria in the apical portion of the root canal or in the apical foramen. Another 6 studies identified the presence of bacteria within the main canal. There is still no specific bacteria related to endodontic failure; regarding the location of bacteria related to endodontic failure, most studies shows the presence of an extraradicular biofilm.

- Abstract
This study aims to (a) identify and profile groups of infants according to their behavioral and physiological characteristics, considering their neurobehavioral organization, social withdrawal behavior, and endocrine reactivity to stress, and to (b) analyze group differences in the quality of mother-infant interaction. Ninety-seven 8-week-old infants were examined using the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and the Alarm Distress Baby Scale. Cortisol levels were measured both before and after routine inoculation between 8 and 12 weeks. At 12 to 16 weeks mother-infant interaction was assessed using the Global Rating Scales of Mother-Infant Interaction. Three groups of infants were identified: (a) "withdrawn"; (b) "extroverted"; (c) "underaroused." Differences between them were found regarding both infant and mother behaviors in the interaction and the overall quality of mother-infant interaction. The identification of behavioral and physiological profiles in infants is an important step in the study of developmental pathways. (Contains 6 tables and 1 figure.)

- Abstract
While infant attachment has been largely studied, parental attachment is still relatively unknown, especially when referred to fathers. However, it is mainly recognised that parents' emotional involvement with the newborn contributes to the quality of the interaction and the care they provide. The aim of this study was to study mother-to-infant and father-to-infant initial emotional involvement; namely, differences between mothers and fathers and changes in mother's emotions toward the neonate within the first days after delivery. The Bonding Scale, an extended Portuguese version of the "New Mother-to-Infant Bonding Scale", was administered during the first two days after childbirth to a sample of 315 mothers and 141 fathers (n = 456), at the Julio Dinis Maternity Hospital (Portugal). Most mothers and fathers show positive emotions and only a few of them showed negative emotions toward the infant. Maternal and paternal emotional involvement toward the newborn tend to be similar; nevertheless, fathers show less fear and better emotional involvement with the neonate, while mothers are sadder and show more emotions not related to bonding. During the first days following delivery, emotions not related to bonding, such as fear, seem to decrease in mothers. (Contains 6 tables.)

Objective: The Maternal Mental Health in Canada, 2018/2019, survey reported that 18% of 7,085 mothers who recently gave birth reported “feelings consistent with postpartum depression” based on scores ≥7 on a 5-item version of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS-5). The EPDS-5 was designed as a screening questionnaire, not to classify disorders or estimate prevalence; the extent to which EPDS-5 results reflect depression prevalence is unknown. We investigated EPDS-5 ≥7 performance relative to major depression prevalence based on a validated diagnostic interview, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM (SCID). Methods: We searched Medline, Medline In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations, PsycINFO, and the Web of Science Core Collection through June 2016 for studies with data sets with item response data to calculate EPDS-5 scores and that used the SCID to ascertain depression status. We conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis to estimate pooled percentage of EPDS-5 ≥7, pooled SCID major depression prevalence, and the pooled difference in prevalence. Results: A total of 3,958 participants from 19 primary studies were included. Pooled prevalence of SCID major depression was 9.2% (95% confidence interval [CI] 6.0% to 13.7%), pooled percentage of participants with EPDS-5 ≥7 was 16.2% (95% CI 10.7% to 23.8%), and pooled difference was 8.0% (95% CI 2.9% to 13.2%). In the 19 included studies, mean and median ratios of EPDS-5 to SCID prevalence were 2.1 and 1.4 times. Conclusions: Prevalence estimated based on EPDS-5 ≥7 appears to be substantially higher than the prevalence of major depression. Validated diagnostic interviews should be used to establish prevalence.

Dental injuries are situations that occur frequently in the population, the prevalence is higher in males, school-age people or athletes. Depending on the severity of the trauma, complications may arise that must be correctly diagnosed and treated. Such complications include pulp necrosis, external or replacement root resorptions, and pulp chamber calcifications. Root canal obliteration or calcifying metamorphosis is characterized by the deposition of hard tissue in the pulp space, which can be seen radiographically, and by the yellowish color of the dental crown. In some cases, it can be associated with pulp necrosis and presence of periapical lesion, and the treatment can be considered complex. Most pulpal calcifications are asymptomatic and are classified according to location and morphology. The main diagnostic method has been through intraoral and panoramic radiographs, although Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) offers better details. Therefore, the objective of this study was to review the literature on the patterns of pulp calcification most frequently reported in the scientific literature related to dental trauma, in order to help the professional with guidance, diagnosis, treatment planning and proper prognosis. Endodontic treatment aims to prevent or treat periapical changes resulting from pulp injuries. In immature permanent teeth the treatment has some peculiarities. Among the treatment modalities used in these cases is regenerative therapy. This is an option for the treatment of necrotic teeth with open apex, being an alternative to apexification that is performed worldwide with great success, but does not allow the end of tooth development, often leaving the walls fragile and thin, susceptible to fractures and consequent loss. of the dental element. In addition, she needs several sessions for periodic exchanges of calcium hydroxide; having a greater risk of new contamination inside the root canal. Patient collaboration can become a negative factor due to the successive necessary consultations. With the evolution of science and new research carried out, regenerative therapy can be an advantageous replacement for apexification, as it is faster and with promising results, however, further studies are needed to improve the technique, develop a definitive protocol, as well as studies of the results achieved in the long term. This paper is intended to present a clinical case of regenerative therapy of a necrotic tooth and open apex with a diagnosis of pulp necrosis of an maxillary left central incisor of an 8-year-old child after previous trauma.

The use of endodontic guide is a minimally invasive technique, indicated for the treatment of calcified canals, resuming the original trajectory of the canal, in cases of deviation and/or perforation, removal of fiberglass post and even guided parendodontic surgery. The use of endodontic guide currently presents good predictability, safety and speed in the treatment of complex cases, to which it will be attributed. The technique is so precise that it does not depend on the operator and can be performed by even less skilled professionals. The objective of this work was to report a clinical case of removal of a fiberglass post in element 11, due to a failure in the prosthetic treatment, using an endodontic guide (endoguide).

During endodontic procedures, the occurrence of iatrogenesis can compromise the success of the treatment and knowing how to conduct them is essential for a favorable outcome. Endodontic perforation is a communication between the pulp space and the external surface of the tooth. The most suitable material for sealing perforations is Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA), a bioceramic capable of inducing the formation of mineralized tissue. The use of loupes or operating microscope is an important tool in the management of complex cases, as it allows magnification and illumination of the operating field. The objective of this study is to report a case of a patient submitted to endodontic treatment and sealing of furcation perforation, with the aid of operative microscopy, evidencing the use of MTA. The patient was referred to Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic for endodontic treatment of tooth 26, which included sealing a perforation and locating the mesiobuccal canal. Chemical-mechanical preparation of root canals was performed with ProDesign Logic instruments, 2% chlorhexidine gel, and distilled water as irrigant. The sealing of the perforation was performed with MTA Angelus. After a period of three months, the patient remained asymptomatic. It was concluded that the treatment was satisfactorily completed, considering the complexity of the case, influenced by patient's age, the difficult access and direct visualization of the tooth and the presence of complications. The use of an operating microscope provided field magnification and illumination, necessary for the detection of the mesiobuccal canal and greater accuracy in the application of the repair material.

Removal of intraradicular retainers often becomes an obstacle when endodontic retreatment is required. The aim of this study was to describe an endodontic reintervention preceded by the removal of intraradicular posts using the Integrated Simultaneous Ultrasound System (SISU) technique. Female patient, feoderma, 34 years old, was referred for dental care at the Specialization Clinic in Endodontics, Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, Belo Horizonte Unit, with indication for endodontic reintervention of dental elements 14 and 15, both with the presence of intraradicular post. In the initial radiographic examination, it was possible to observe a slight thickening of the periodontal ligament in tooth 14 and the presence of a radiolucent image in the region adjacent to the root apex, suggestive of a periapical lesion in tooth 15. After confirming the need and feasibility of endodontic retreatment, removal was performed. of the prosthetic crown, followed by partial wear of the cast metal cores and removal of the cement line with a fine tip ultrasonic insert. After this procedure, two ultrasonic thick tip inserts were used, positioned simultaneously in opposite directions, so that the ultrasonic vibrations were transferred to the intraradicular retainers, thus allowing their removal. Endodontic retreatment was performed in two sessions, with intracanal medication for a period of 21 days. Patient under clinical and radiographic follow-up.
