Background Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTPs) are relatively rare tumors that originate from mesenchymal cells of submesothelial tissue of the pleura. Most patients with SFTPs are asymptomatic; however, pleuritic chest pain, cough, and dyspnea can develop. If hypoglycemia is associated with a solitary fibrous tumor, it is referred to as the Doege-Potter syndrome. Case presentation A 70-year-old man had visited our hospital with a chief complaint of dyspnea, and he was diagnosed as having a solitary fibrous tumor. A few years later, he developed hypoglycemia, and he underwent excision of the mass. Conclusion Occasionally, SFTPs induce several paraneoplastic events, such as hypertrophic osteoarthropathy. We described here a patient with an SFTP with Doege-Potter syndrome who was successfully treated with complete resection. Although lesions can be histologically benign, they can clinically present with malignant features.

Introduction: Testicular benign tumors are very rare (< 5%). Testicular Angiofibroma (AF) is one of those, however the gold standard of treatment and follow-up is still unclear. Case report: A 47 years-old man with only one functioning testis was referred to our clinic for a palpable right testicular mass and atrophic contralateral testis. Patient underwent testis-sparing surgery with inguinal approach and intraoperative frozen sections examination with diagnosis of AF. Final histology confirmed AF. Post-operative follow-up was uneventful. Clinical and ultrasonographic follow-up was negative after 8 months. Conclusion: We report a conservative surgery in a patient with AF of the solitary testis. AF is a benign para-testicular fibrous neoplasm that could be misinterpreted as malignant tumor and treated with orchiectomy. Testis-sparing surgery is recommended in this case with intraoperative pathological examination. The excision of the mass is enough but in front of a possible recurrence a long follow-up is advisable.

Plantar fibromatosis is a relatively uncommon benign, focally invasive fibrous neoplasm. It is most often found to invest the central and medial portions of the plantar fascia. Since the lesion is not encapsulated, clinical margins are often difficult to define. Inadequate excision is the primary cause of recurrence. While it is accepted that the principal use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is showing the extent of a lesion and that it is limited in its ability to provide information regarding likely histology, recognition of the imaging characteristics of plantar fibromatoses can help in the clinical diagnosis. The exception to this role of MRI is when plantar fibromatosis presents itself in an uncharacteristic location. Knowledge of the uncharacteristic locations of these lesions will certainly help radiologists guide the often difficult and protracted therapy of these lesions. The authors present a unique case report of plantar fibromatosis affecting the plantar aspect of the 2nd toe of the foot.

Desmoid tumor, first described by Macfarlane in 1832 (7), is a locally invasive but histologically benign dense fibrous neoplasm arising from and within the fascial sheaths of striated muscle. The term “desmoid,” coined by Johannes Mueller in 1838 (8) was used to describe its tendon-like consistency. Bennet first pointed out its histologic features (1). He described and depicted, by means of woodcuts, the microscopic appearance of three growths occurring on the thigh, in the parotid region, and on the arm. All the tumors recurred after local excision, but none metastasized. Nichols in 1923 (10) called attention to the gross and microscopic similarity between extra-abdominal fibroma and abdominal desmoid tumor. He emphasized their essential similarity, regardless of location.
