• Postpartum care is a frequently neglected area of women's health. • It should encompass all aspects of biological and psychosexual health. • Early diagnosis of common conditions/symptoms (eg, anaemia, dyspareunia) is needed. • There is high variability in global professional guidelines for postpartum care. • Genital hygiene (eg, vulvar cleansers) can help improve genital/sexual outcomes. The postpartum period encompasses the biological and psychoaffective transition to motherhood. However, it remains a most neglected phase in a woman's life. Furthermore, the transition to parenthood is a critical and potentially disrupting factor in a couple's relationship, which can be complicated by undiagnosed biological and psychosexual difficulties. Lack of recognition of the many biological and medical factors that can affect women's health and sexuality in the postpartum period is a common and persistent clinical omission worldwide. Communication difficulties exist between healthcare professionals and women and there are wording biases in describing female genitalia. This can further contribute to the diagnostic lack of attention and timely diagnosis and treatment of even very bothersome symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment of common postpartum conditions is vital and quality care for new mothers should include psychological and emotional support, lactation assistance, early diagnosis and treatment of genital and sexual pain symptoms, pelvic floor rehabilitation and sexual health guidance. The inclusion of correct genital hygiene practices is a critical element of postpartum gynaecological counselling and can help improve overall genital and sexual health. In this review, we summarise the variability in global professional guidelines for postpartum care, identify common health problems faced by postpartum women and discuss appropriate postpartum care. We pay specific attention to prominent biological or medical factors that can impact the emotional and psychosexual wellbeing of women and couples. The aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction, in particular sexual pain disorders, is therefore discussed with a pragmatic approach. Finally, the role of intimate hygiene care is discussed with special attention given to cleanser ingredients with solid scientific evidence to help clinicians adopt a more tailored approach with their clinical recommendations. Introduction: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a common health problem that is inadequately investigated in Arabic countries, especially Saudi Arabia. Aim: To assess the prevalence and trace predictors of FSD in Saudi women who suffered from migraine headaches comparable to healthy women. Patients and methods: A prospective cross-sectional, controlled study involved 400 Saudi women complaining of migraine (Case Group) and another 400 healthy-looking Saudi women (Control Group) during three months; from January 1st, to March 31st 2023, in Jeddah city, Saudi Arabia. Data was collected by using a pre-structured Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire, Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS), Migraine Screen Questionnaire (MS-Q), with an evaluation of the severity of pain by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and its impact on daily activity by using both; Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) and Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) Questionnaire. Results: A total of 800 Saudi women were recruited. Their ages ranged from 18 to 45 years old. Women with abnormally low FSFI scores were 375 (93.75 %) out of 400 with migraine and 85 (21.25 %) out of 400 without migraine. The lowest FSFI scores were mainly for desire (2.75 ± 1.05) and arousal domains (3.0 ± 1.12) followed by sexual satisfaction (3.25 ± 1.30) and orgasmic domains (3.5 ± 1.15). Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is often associated with female sexual dysfunctions (FSD). However, little is known about the impact of therapies for PTSD on FSD according to DSM-5 criteria. To examine if sexual functioning diagnosed according to DSM-5 criteria improves after treatment for PTSD in women with a PTSD diagnosis after interpersonal child abuse. FSD according to DSM-5 criteria were assessed with the structured clinical interview SISEX in N = 152 female participants (mean age = 36.5 years) of a large randomized controlled trial three months into treatment and after 15 months of receiving either dialectical behavior therapy for PTSD or cognitive processing therapy. Number of fulfilled FSD criteria and diagnostic status were compared from pre-to post-treatment using Poisson and negative binomial regression analyses and the McNemar test. The effect of treatment type on reduction of FSD symptoms and the association between reduction in PTSD symptoms and reduction in FSD symptoms were assessed. From pre-to post-treatment, the number of fulfilled criteria for each FSD decreased (Incident rate ratios between 0.60 and 0.71, p between <. 001 and <0.05). Less women met criteria for genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder at post-treatment compared to pre-treatment (11.8 % vs. 6.6 %, p <.05). No difference was found between treatments in reduction of FSD symptoms. Reduction of PTSD symptoms was associated with greater decrease in FSD symptoms. Many women with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after child sexual abuse (CSA) suffer from sexual problems. However, little is known about the frequency of female sexual dysfunctions (FSD) as defined by DSM-5 among women with PTSD due to CSA. Furthermore, factors related to FSD in this patient population are understudied. To assess prevalence rates and clinical correlates of FSD according to DSM-5 criteria in women with PTSD after CSA, a structured clinical interview for sexual dysfunctions according to DSM-5 criteria was administered in a sample of 137 women with PTSD after CSA. Participants also completed measures for PTSD, depression symptoms, and borderline personality disorder symptoms. The association between FSD, severity of abuse, PTSD-, depression-, borderline symptom severity, and age was examined. In a second step, the association between FSD and PTSD-clusters was assessed. Diagnostic criteria of female sexual interest/arousal disorder (FSIAD) were met by 2.6% of women in our sample. 5.2% met criteria of female orgasmic disorder (FOD), and 11.8% those of genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder (GPPPD). PTSD symptom severity predicted number of fulfilled criteria of FSIAD and FOD, the cluster "negative alterations in cognition and mood," was associated with more fulfilled criteria in FSIAD and FOD. The majority of women reported sexual problems, but diagnostic criteria of FSD were met by only a small number of participants. Objective The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on sexual function in reproductive-aged women with hypothyroidism. Materials and methods This randomized clinical trial was performed on 66 reproductive-aged women with hypothyroidism referring to selected health centers in Izeh, Iran. Data collection tools included demographic information form and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Eligible individuals were randomly assigned to case (n = 33) and control (n = 33) groups using block randomization with the block size of 4. Background: Mindfulness-based therapies (MBTs) are frequently used in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions. So far, there has not been sufficient evidence for the effectiveness of interventions based on mindfulness monotherapy. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of mindfulness monotherapy on the reduction of sexual dysfunction symptoms and sex-related quality of life. Methods: We conducted 4 weeks of MBT for 2 groups of heterosexual females: 1 with psychogenic sexual dysfunction (WSD) and 1 with no sexual dysfunction (NSD). Overall 93 women were recruited for the study. We collected data via an online survey regarding sexual satisfaction, sexual dysfunctions, and mindfulness-related features at baseline, 1 week after MBT, and follow-up 12 weeks after MBT. Research tools included the Female Sexual Function Index, Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire. Outcomes: Participating in the mindfulness program had a positive effect on women with and without sexual dysfunction. Results: The overall risk for sexual dysfunction decreased from 90.6% at baseline to 46.7% at follow-up in the WSD group and from 32.5% at baseline to 6.9% at follow-up in the NSD group. Participants in the WSD group reported a significant increase in levels of sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, and orgasm between measurements, although not in the pain domain. Participants in the NSD group reported a significant increase in the level of sexual desire between measurements but not in levels of arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and pain. A significant increase in sex-related quality of life was observed in both groups. Clinical Implications: The results of the study have a chance to translate into an introduction of a new therapeutic program for specialists and more effective help offered to women experiencing sexual dysfunctions. Strengths and Limitations: This mindfulness monotherapy research project, which included assessment of meditation "homework," is the first to verify the potential of MBT in reducing symptoms of psychogenic sexual dysfunctions among heterosexual females. Major limitations include the lack of randomization, an adequate control group, and a validated measure of sexual distress. Conclusion: The applied training was beneficial in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions in terms of increasing desire and arousal as well as the ability to reach orgasm. However, this approach needs more investigation before it can be recommended in the treatment of sexual dysfunction. Female sexual dysfunctions represent a real widespread problem, usually faced from a psychological point of view; however, millions of women worldwide are impacted by pelvic floor dysfunction, personal shame and social taboos, however, continue to inhibit free conversation on the subject. Women's quality of life is considerably improved by screening, diagnosing, and controlling urogenital and sexual issues. This review aims to provide a critical perspective of urogenital conditions and common disturbances in female sexual function associated with these issues. Low sexual desire disorder is a recurrent deficiency in desire for sexual activity which impairs lifestyle. It is a frequent problem in women with limited therapeutic options. Phyllanthus muellerianus (Kuntze) Exell is a plant used by traditional healers to boost libido in women. This study aimed at evaluating the aphrodisiac properties of root barks extracts of this plant on a model of Low Sexual Desire Disorder (LSDD) in female rats. Low sexual desire was induced by ovariectomy plus low steroid hormones supplementations. Thirty ovariectomized rats were treated for 21 days with either distilled water, aqueous or methanol extracts (60 or 372 mg/kg) of P. muellerianus. All animals were supplemented with a low dose of 17β-estradiol and progesterone prior to sexual behavior test. Sexual behavior test was performed each week by pairing each female rat with a sexually experienced male. Sexual motivation (approach, ear wiggling, hops and darts, anogenital presentation and aggressive behavior frequency) and sexual receptivity parameters (lordosis frequency and quotient) were recorded. At the end of treatments, animals were sacrificed, uteri and vagina collected, weighed and conserved for total uterine proteins assay and histology. LSDD was characterized by significant inhibition of sexual motivation parameters and lordosis frequency compared to a normal control. Moreover, poor reproductive tissues growth characterized by low total uterine proteins, uterine wet weight and uterine epithelia size was noted in LSDD group compared to normal control. OBJECTIVE: The Sexual Complaints Screener for Women (SCS-W) is a brief, practical and up-to-date scale which assesses sexual problems parallel with the current diagnostic manuals. The SCS-W consists of 10 questions which assess a variety of sexual dysfunctions and potential distress experienced at the time of and the last six months leading to the evaluation. This study aims to assess the validity and reliability parameters of the Turkish version of the SCS-W. METHODS: Cross-sectional study included 352 women between the ages of 18 and 25 who voluntarily completed the survey, 316 of which were included in the analysis. Data was collected through specific questionnaires including the Female Sexual Function Index, the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Turkish translation of SCS-W, and a sociodemographic form. The Cronbach Alpha Test was used to calculate the internal consistency and the Pearson Correlation Test was used for total score correlations as well as to determine cross-validity. An explanatory factor analysis was applied to identify the validity of the scale. RESULTS: The average age of participants in the study was 21.17 ± 1.87. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was 0.895, and the correlation coefficient for most of the items was found to be higher than 0.50. Correlation analysis between the SCS-W and the FSFI total score and subscales were statistically significant. CONCLUSION: The SCS-W has credible psychometric values for validity and reliability to screen and evaluate sexual complaints. To sum up, the SCS-W is a practical assessment tool with the considerable advantages of delivering cost-effective evaluation of female sexual problems in clinical settings, research, and daily practice.

Objectives: Incidence and prevalence of patients in dialytic therapy increased considerably in recent years. The onset of new issues, once overshadowed, linked to a lower quality of life like sexual dysfunction became increasingly common. The first study in this area, dating back to the 1970s, shows the high prevalence of sexual dysfunction among patients in dialytic therapy of both sexes. Later studies proved an association of sexual dysfunction with psyche disorders, anxiety, depression and lack of self-confidence. The aim of this study is to describe the incidence of male and female sexual main dysfunctions, the latter not least in literature, in patients in hemodialytic therapy. With this aim two dialytic centers have been compared, one located in northern Italy and one in southern Italy, and the different prevalence has been compared to the general population. Methods: We conducted a prospective cross-sectional observational study in patients undergoing dialytic therapy in two hemodialysis centers, one located in Palermo and one in Lecco. Male sexual dysfunction was investigated by the International Index of Erectile Function-15 (IIEF15) questionnaire and the Premature Ejaculation Diagnotic Tool (PEDT) questionnaire, and the female dysfunction by Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. Criteria for inclusion in our study were: age < 75 years and dialytic age > 3 months; exclusion criteria were: advanced cancer diseases, life expectancy < 6 months, previous urological manipulation, anti-androgenic therapy, sexual dysfunction unrelated to kidney disease, psychiatric disorders. Data were compared with mean-standard deviation (SD) and with the variance analysis (ANOVA). A value of p < 0.05 is considered significant. Discrete data were analyzed with contingency analysis. A chi2 < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Data of 78 patients have been collected. Mean age and dialytic time were 54 ± 12 years and 42 ± 35 month; 33 patients were from Palermo and 24 from Lecco; 21 patients were excluded. Age and dialytic age of the two subgroups did not demonstrate statistically significant differences. Between the two centers there was a statistically significant difference (p < 0.005) in the distribution of basic nephropathy: an higher incidence of diabetic and obstructive nephropathy has been observed in the southern center compared to northern center, while glomerulonephritis and polycystic kidney disease had an higher incidence in the northern center compared to southern one. The main sexual dysfunctions in both sexes, erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE) in men and orgasm disorder and pelvic pain in women, have been investigated. ED was present in 70% of hemodialyzed patients, which is an higher incidence compared to the general population. The severity of ED between patients of the two groups was significantly different (chi2 < 0.001) with higher incidence of moderate/severe forms in northern Italy. The score, in addition to discrete data (severe, moderate, mild, absence), of ED was significantly different (p < 0.001) between patients of the two centers (22 ± 7 Palermo vs. 9 ± 8, Lecco). The PE was absent in 20 patients (54%), present in 12 patients (32%) and probable in 5 patients (14%) (scores of 7.6 ± 4.0 and 8.9 ± 6.8, respectively in Palermo and Lecco patients). For women, orgasmic dysfunction was severe in 10 patients (50%), mild in 4 patients (20%), very mild in 5 patients (25%), while it was normal in 1 patient (5%), with a statistically significant difference (p< 0.05) between Palermo and Lecco patients (3.0 ± 1.4 vs 1.2 ± 2.0). Sexual pain in women was severe in 11 patients (55%), moderate in 4 patients (20%) and mild in 5 patients (25%). Sexual pain was present in all patients (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Regardless of sex, sexual dysfunction is one of the most common side effect in patients with end stage renal disease in dialytic therapy. Our study confirms literature data. The growing number of the dialytic population with sexual disorders needs specialist support to improve quality of life of these patients.

Women may experience changes in sexuality across menopause, because at this step in life hormone deficiency interacts with several determinants in a bio-psycho-social perspective. Healthcare providers should inform women about menopause impact on sexuality and be proactive during consultation in disclosing sexual concerns that would require a targeted assessment. Sexual symptoms become more frequent as women age, but they do not always translate into sexual dysfunction diagnosis, for which distress is required. It is important to recognize conditions that may increase the risk of dysfunctional response to menopause challenges in order to promote sexual longevity through counselling and specific management. In this review, we report key elements for a comprehensive assessment of sexual health around menopause, with a focus on genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) and hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), representing well identified clinical conditions affecting sexuality at midlife and beyond. Female sexual dysfunctions (FSDs) are frequent concerns in women with type 1 diabetes (T1D), which is frequently associated with other autoimmune diseases (ADs). To assess sexual function in young type 1 diabetic women with or without additional ADs. Women with T1D aged 18–35 years with a stable couple relationship and no oral contraceptive use were enrolled. Diabetic women with concomitant ADs were also identified. All women completed the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Female Sexual Distress Scale. The main outcome was the prevalence of FSD. The FSFI-single domain scores were also evaluated in diabetic women with or without additional ADs. The global population included 154 diabetic women, of whom 66 (42%) had at least one additional AD. The prevalence of FSD was similar among diabetic women with and those without (30% vs 32%, P =.980) additional ADs. The FSFI-desire score was significantly lower among diabetic women with concomitant ADs than those without ADs [median (interquartile range), 4.1 (3.6, 4.8) vs 4.6 (4.0, 5.0), P =.042]. An early evaluation of sexual function in women with T1D and concomitant ADs should be encouraged. Major strengths are the use of 2 validated tools to diagnose FSD and the relatively large number of subjects investigated. The association between diabetes mellitus (and its micro- and macro-vascular complications) and erectile dysfunction is widely known and the presence of hypogonadism may further complicate sexual dysfunction and quality of life, given the association between hypogonadism and reduced libido, ejaculatory disorders, and depressive symptoms. However, the recent introduction of novel antidiabetic agents with a wide range of mechanism of action may have a significant impact both on male and female sexuality directly (by inducing side effects as urinary tract infections) and indirectly (improving metabolic status and reducing diabetes complications behind sexual dysfunctions). To date only few papers are reporting the sexual effects of these treatments and, often, these are not comparable in their results. Conversely, female sexual dysfunctions are somehow under-investigated. Data on prevalence is heterogeneous and specific pathogenic mechanisms, as well as the burden of psychological factors, are still heatedly debated. The aim of this narrative review is to summarize current knowledge and stressing out the need to diagnose male and female sexual dysfunctions also in light of the impact of treatments with novel antidiabetic agents. This would highlight the still unmet needs for sexual care in a diabetes care setting and could represent an incentive for future discussions, as well as a required theoretical starting point for studies on this subject. Obesity represents a major global health challenge. Female sexual dysfunctions have a negative impact on quality of life and overall health balance. A higher rate of female sexual dysfunctions in obese women has been suggested. This systematic review summarized the literature on female sexual dysfunction prevalence in obese women. The review was registered (Open Science Framework OSF.IO/7CG95) and a literature search without language restrictions was conducted in PubMed, Embase and Web of Science, from January 1990 to December 2021. Cross-sectional and intervention studies were included, the latter if they provided female sexual dysfunction rate data in obese women prior to the intervention. For inclusion, studies should have used the female sexual function index or its simplified version. Study quality was assessed to evaluate if female sexual function index was properly applied using six items. Rates of female sexual dysfunctions examining for differences between obese vs class III obese and high vs low quality subgroups were summarized. Random effects meta-analysis was performed, calculating 95% confidence intervals (CI) and examining heterogeneity with I 2 statistic. Publication bias was evaluated with funnel plot. There were 15 relevant studies (1720 women participants in total with 153 obese and 1567 class III obese women). Of these, 8 (53.3%) studies complied with >4 quality items. Overall prevalence of female sexual dysfunctions was 62% (95% CI 55-68%; I 2 85.5%). Among obese women the prevalence was 69% (95% CI 55-80%; I 2 73.8%) vs 59% (95% CI 52-66%; I 2 87.5%) among those class III obese (subgroup difference p=0.15). Among high quality studies the prevalence was 54% (95% CI 50-60%; I 2 46.8%) vs 72% (95% CI 61-81%; I 2 88.0%) among low quality studies (subgroup difference p=0.002). There was no funnel asymmetry. It is aimed to make a general overview to psychological interventions used in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions (SDs) in this article. Although traditional psychological interventions are applied in the treatment of SDs such as sexual therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and marital/couple therapy, the use of mindfulness and sexual therapy on the Internet have been seen to be on the increase in recent years. The studies conducted regarding the efficiency of psychological interventions applied in the treatment of SDs indicate that these interventions are effective in the treatment of SDs. Psychological interventions present promising treatment options for SDs. Nevertheless, the insufficient methodological patterns of studies make it hard for the results to be interpreted and compared. Therefore, more studies are needed to be carried out in the future in relation to the efficiency of psychological interventions. Because very limited number of studies has been made regarding psychological interventions applied to SDs in Turkey, it can be said that there is an important deficiency in this realm. Female sexual dysfunctions are a highly prevalent and often-underestimated health problem and include disorders of sexual desire, arousal, orgasm and sexual pain, associated with self-distress. Pathophysiology of female sexual dysfunctions is complex and still poorly understood, although it has been related to several biological, medical and psychological factors. Amongst women, urogynecological disorders such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder syndrome, bladder pain syndrome and pelvic organ prolapse, have been found to be associated with sexual dysfunctions, although the biological and psychological bases of these associations are poorly investigated. Data on sexual function impact of these conditions come from several cross-sectional or community-based, epidemiological studies based on self-administered validated psychometric tools. This review focuses on the most relevant available evidence on the impact of urogynecological disorders and related surgical treatments on female sexual function.

Introduction Although impaired sexual function is relatively common, not all sexual impairments are associated with distress. To date, most studies on protective and risk factors for sexual distress have asked about distress in a more general manner and have failed to distinguish different dimensions of sexual distress. Aim To examine the association of several intra- and interpersonal factors with personal, perceived partner, and interpersonal distress due to an impairment in sexual functioning in women. Methods This study is a cross-sectional representative population-based survey with a two-level random selection of Flemish women 14 to 80 years old from the Belgian National Register. The data of 520 sexually active heterosexual women with a partner (weighted N) and impairment in sexual desire (n = 291) and/or sexual arousal (n = 273) were used for analysis. Main Outcome Measures Demographic information was obtained, and the five-item Mental Health Inventory, the Marital Adjustment subscale of the Maudsley Marital Questionnaire, and the four-item Dyadic Sexual Communication Questionnaire were used. Presence and severity of sexual impairments and associated sexual distress were assessed using the Sexual Functioning Scale. Results Severity and number of sexual impairments were predictive of all types of sexual distress. Also, for desire and arousal impairments, lower mental well-being predicted personal distress, and lower relationship satisfaction predicted perceived partner distress. For desire impairments, lower relationship satisfaction and less communication about sexual needs were predictive of interpersonal distress. For impairments in sexual arousal, lower mental well-being and lower relationship satisfaction were predictive of interpersonal distress. Conclusion Personal, perceived partner, and interpersonal distress due to sexual impairments have different types of predictors. Clinical assessment and treatment could benefit from differentiating between different types of distress and the intra- and interpersonal factors that are associated with them. Female sexual dysfunctions include a group of sexual complaints and disorders affecting women of all ages, and stemming from a heterogeneous array of etiologies and contributing factors. The classification system for sexual dysfunctions in the woman has evolved from a linear categorization of sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, and pain disorders to one that is more complex and overlapping. Personal distress is a key factor in defining a sexual problem as a dysfunction. The recently released Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, edition 5, collapses former definitions of female sexual disorders and moves away from the older linear model of diagnostic categories. Physicians should be open to discussing sexual problems with women, and may make use of validated questionnaires in the office setting. Questionnaires diagnosing sexual dysfunctions in women are important tools which can facilitate the diagnosis and therapy of individual female patients. The study is aimed at the adaptation of the Sexual Function Questionnaire, which was designed by Frances H. Quirk and associates for the American population, to Polish conditions (Quirk et al. in J Sex Med 4:469-77, ). The study group consisted of 143 women aged 20-68 who were receiving gynaecological care and displayed various types of sexual dysfunction (e.g. female sexual arousal disorder, female orgasmic disorder, dyspareunia), or none of those. The good psychometric quality of the Sexual Function Questionnaire has been confirmed with the following results: convergent validity r=0.62, p<0.01, construct validity was estimated by Principal Component Analysis with the promax rotation method. The 7 factors together explained 80.7% of total variance, and a reliability of 0.97 for the whole test, with that for particular domains ranging from 0.62 to 0.96 (estimated with Cronbach's alpha). The obtained results are mostly consistent with results from studies conducted by the authors of the Questionnaire in the United States, and with the adaptation study carried out in Iran. Introduction. Yoga is a popular form of complementary and alternative therapy. It is practiced both in developing and developed countries. Female sexual dysfunctions are common and do not always get adequate clinical attention. Pharmacotherapies for treating female sexual dysfunctions are available but suffer from drawbacks such as poor compliance, low efficacy, and side effects. Many patients and yoga protagonists claim that it is useful in improving sexual functions and treating sexual disorders. Aim. To establish the effect yoga can have on female sexual functions. Methods. We recruited 40 females (age range 22–55 years, average age 34.7 ± 8.49 years) who were enrolled in a yoga camp and were given a standardized questionnaire named Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) before and after the 12 weeks session of yoga. Main Outcome Measures. FSFI scores. Results. It was found that after the completion of yoga sessions; the sexual functions scores were significantly improved ( P < 0.0001). The improvement occurred in all six domains of FSFI (i.e., desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain). Introduction. The extent to which diabetes may influence sexuality has not yet been established. Identifying the risk factors of female sexual dysfunctions will facilitate the introduction of effective therapeutic models that aim to normalize the glycemic control and will enhance sexual functioning. Aims. To evaluate the influence of diabetes mellitus on female sexual functions, behaviors and depressive symptoms as well as to establish the predictors for female sexual dysfunctions in diabetic subjects. Main Outcome Measures. To asses reported female sexual dysfunctions by using Female Sexual Function Index in diabetic females. Methods. A total of 544 females living in the upper Silesia region aged 18–55 years old were eligible for this questionnaire-based, retrospective, cross-section study. The study group included females with diabetes mellitus (N = 264), regardless its type and duration; healthy non-diabetic subjects were controls. The Blatt-Kuppermann Index was used to evaluate climacteric symptoms, the Back Depression Inventory—to screen for depressive symptoms and the Female Sexual Function Index—for sexual dysfunction in female (FSD). Results. Multiple logistic regression revealed that the risk of desire and arousal dysfunction was lower in respondents for whom having a satisfactory sexual life was extremely important compared to those for whom it was slightly important or not important at all (referent) (OR: 0.05 and 0.01, respectively). Respondents highly satisfied with sexual contacts with their partner were at lover risk of desire, arousal, and orgasmic disorders and FSD compared to referent subjects (OR: 0.12; 0.03; 0.01 and 0.03 respectively). Depressive symptoms were associated with higher prevalence of arousal disorders and FSD (OR: 13.6 and 3.57, respectively), diabetes—orgasmic dysfunctions (OR = 10.1). Conclusions. In women, the presence of diabetes is an independent predictor of orgasmic dysfunctions. Female sexuality is a controversial issue due to its embarrassment and to paucity of literature publications. The neuroanatomy and neuromediators involved in female sexuality are important but not so fundamental as in men. There are three sexual female dysfunctions (SFD): primary, secondary, tertiary. In the primary one, the sexual dysfunction (SD) is correlated to the neurological disease, in the secondary the SD derives from the symptoms of the neurological disease, in the tertiary the SD is the psychological reaction to the effects of the disease. We analyse the FSD in neurological diseases, as the outcome of medulla trauma, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Alzheimer, Parkinson, diabetes, outcome of pelvic surgery. Female sexuality (FS) is difficult and complex compared to male sexuality. Women with medulla lesion feel some discomfort when having to go and speak to their doctor: they are afraid of pregnancy, sexual intercourses, bladder and rectal functions. In women with newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis, there is a tertiary sexual dysfunction. Medical therapy worsens female sexuality as in case of epilepsy. Emotional and behavioural disorders involve sexual dysfunctions in women with Alzheimer. In Parkinson, reduction of sexual desire involves break of sexual intercourses. SD are more frequent in complicated diabetes. In pelvic surgery, pelvic autonomic dysfunction and depression correlated to the oncology disease, contribute to the FSD. Introduction. Genital Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most commonly occurring sexually transmitted viral infection in humans. HPV is a wide family of DNA viruses, which may cause benign skin and mucosal tumors (genital, anal, or oral warts), intraepithelial neoplasias, and/or malignant cancers in different organs. Women are more susceptible to the oncogenic effect of HPVs, mostly at the genital site on the uterine cervix. Aims. This review analyzes the impact of: (i) genital warts (GWs) and their treatment; (ii) HPV-related genital, oral, and anal precancerous lesions on women's sexual function. Methods. A Medline search was carried out. Search terms were HPV, GWs, intraepithelial neoplasia, cervical cancer, anal cancer, oral cancer, epidemiology, HPV risk factors, sexual dysfunctions, desire disorders, arousal disorders, dyspareunia, vulvar vestibulitis, vulvodynia, orgasmic difficulties, sexual repertoire, couple sexual problems, depression, anxiety, pap smear, screening program, therapy, and vaccines. Main Outcome Measures. Sexual consequences of HPV infection in women, specifically GWs and intraepithelial HPV-related neoplasia. Results. Psychosexual vulnerability increases with number of recurrences of HPV infections. Depression, anxiety, and anger are the emotions most frequently reported. However, to date, there is no conclusive evidence of a specific correlation between HPV infection and a specific female sexual disorder. The relationship between HPV and vulvar vestibulitis/vulvodynia-related dyspareunia seems not to be direct. Counseling problems, the role of anti-HPV vaccine, and the concept of the high-risk partner are discussed. Urinary incontinence (UI) is a very common disorder in women, involving severe consequences on the patients' perception of quality of life and sexuality. The aim of this contribution is to analyze the psycho-relational aspects linked to UI, focusing on sexual activity, self-perception of sexual competence and self-esteem. Urinary incontinence causes feelings of shame and inadequacy as well as low self-esteem; it may affect sexual activity, reducing sexual intercourse frequency. Many authors highlight a strong comorbidity between urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunctions, such as dyspareunia, vaginismus, hypo-active sexual desire, arousal and orgasm disorders. Literature analysis shows that changes in sexual activity are influenced not only by urinary incontinence symptoms but also by the disorder self-perception, by previous sexuality, menopause, social status and the partner's attitude. The etiological study of urinary incontinence shows that several different factors play a role in this disorder. Therefore, an integrated therapeutic approach is suggested, considering, besides the organic issues, the experience and feelings of patients as well as the consequences on their sexual and social life. This review examines the breadth and utility of preclinical models of female sexual desire in rats. Desire is inferred by certain measures, such as solicitations, rates of pacing (in which female rats control the initiation and rate of copulatory contact with male rats), and the strength of operant behavior aimed at acquiring sex partners. Current research reveals a complex interplay between sensory stimulation and sexual reward that shapes the strength and type of sexual responding, and that crystallizes the features of desired partners in female rats. The manner in which steroid hormones and sexual experience alter brain neurochemistry to prime the activation of these pathways is a major focus of this work. In contrast to more traditional assessments of lordosis, these models have predictive validity in terms of human female sexual function and dysfunction: for example, drugs that increase solicitations in female rats, such as the melanocortin agonist bremelanotide, are now being shown in clinical trials to increase subjective sexual desire and the initiation of sexual activity in both pre- and post-menopausal women with hypoactive desire disorders. Because rat models offer the ability to conduct experiments that are considered unethical in humans, they will become increasingly important in the development of pharmacological treatments for sexual dysfunctions. Sexual medicine experts from international societies representing an array of disciplines have revised and redefined female sexual dysfunctions (FSDs) to reflect current scientific evidence and the state of the art., Aim: To summarize the evidence and interactive and chronological process by which sexual medicine societies' consensus groups developed the current nomenclature, classifications, and definitions for FSDs., Methods: We review the contributions and collaborations of the Fourth International Consultation in Sexual Medicine (ICSM), the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), and the World Association of Sexual Health in conjunction with the World Health Organization., Main Outcome Measures: The ICSM and ISSWSH diagnostic systems are contrasted with the DSM classification. We discuss innovations and strengths; relevant evidence regarding epidemiology, etiology, and risk factors; and key differences. Introduction: Over the last 20 years, basic and clinical research activities studying the male and female sexual responses have led to several pharmacological options to treat male erectile dysfunction (ED) and female arousal and orgasmic disorders. While some strategies exclusively focus on peripheral mechanisms--such as nitric oxide/cyclic GMP signaling, which is known to play a role in the control of genital vascular and nonvascular smooth muscle--others have considered the central pathways involved in mediating arousal and orgasmic functions in females as well as the induction of penile erection in males.
