Background and Aim: Cryptosporidiosis is a major waterborne disease affecting ruminants and humans worldwide. It causes diarrhea and neonatal mortality in buffalo calves, and watery diarrhea and mortality in children and immunodeficient patients. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Myristica fragrans methanolic extract in treatment of C. parvum infection in comparison with nitazoxanide (NZX) (a Food and Drug Administration-approved drug control) in immunosuppressed and immunocompetent mice. Materials and Methods: One hundred laboratory-bred male Swiss albino mice were equally divided into immunocompetent and immunosuppressed groups. Each group was further divided into five subgroups: (1) non-infected and non-treated control, (2) infected and non-treated control (infected with Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts 3 × 103), (3) NZX-treated (100 mg/kg, 200 μL/mouse), (4) M. fragrans Houtt. methanol extract-treated (500 mg/kg), and (5) combination-treated (NZX + M. fragrans extract). Number of oocysts/g of feces, serum immunoglobulin (Ig) G level, and interferon (IFN)-γ, and interleukin (IL)-4 levels were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect. Results: C. parvum oocyst shedding in stool samples was significantly decreased in all treatment groups, with 79.7%, 81.2 %, and 85.5 % reduction in immunocompetent mice treated with NZX, M. fragrans, and their combination, respectively. In immunosuppressed mice, oocyst shedding was reduced by 77.7%, 80.5 %, and 83.7 % upon NZX, M. fragrans, and their combination treatments, respectively. The serum IgG level was lowest in mice treated with a mixture of M. fragrans and NZX, followed by those treated with NZX, and was highest in mice treated with M. fragrans alone. Regarding cytokine levels, all groups treated with M. fragrans had low levels of IFN-γ and IL4 on day 21 post-infection. Conclusion: Collectively, the treatment of cryptosporidiosis with M. fragrans extract was successful in mice, as demonstrated by the measured parameters. M. fragrans reduced C. parvum oocyst shedding and serum IgG, IFN-γ, and IL-4 levels in immunocompetent and immunosuppressed mice.

Abstract Background Chromosome 16p11.2 deletions and duplications were found to be the second most common copy number variation (CNV) reported in cases with clinical presentation suggestive of chromosomal syndromes. Chromosome 16p11.2 deletion syndrome shows remarkable phenotypic heterogeneity with a wide variability of presentation extending from normal development and cognition to severe phenotypes. The clinical spectrum ranges from neurocognitive and global developmental delay (GDD), intellectual disability, and language defects (dysarthria /apraxia) to neuropsychiatric and autism spectrum disorders. Other presentations include dysmorphic features, congenital malformations, insulin resistance, and a tendency for obesity. Our study aims to narrow the gap of knowledge in Saudi Arabia and the Middle Eastern and Northern African (MENA) region about genetic disorders, particularly CNV-associated disorders. Despite their rarity, genetic studies in the MENA region revealed high potential with remarkable genetic and phenotypic novelty. Results We identified a heterozygous de novo recurrent proximal chromosome 16p11.2 microdeletion by microarray (arr[GRCh38]16p11.2(29555974_30166595)x1) [(arr[GRCh37]16p11.2(29567295_30177916)x1)] and confirmed by whole exome sequencing (arr[GRCh37]16p11.2(29635211_30199850)x1). We report a Saudi girl with severe motor and cognitive disability, myoclonic epilepsy, deafness, and visual impairment carrying the above-described deletion. Our study broadens the known phenotypic spectrum associated with recurrent proximal 16p11.2 microdeletion syndrome to include developmental dysplasia of the hip, optic atrophy, and a flat retina. Notably, the patient exhibited a rare combination of microcephaly, features consistent with the Dandy-Walker spectrum, and a thin corpus callosum (TCC), which are extremely infrequent presentations in patients with the 16p11.2 microdeletion. Additionally, the patient displayed areas of skin and hair hypopigmentation, attributed to a homozygous hypomorphic allele in the TYR gene. Conclusion This report expands on the clinical phenotype associated with proximal 16p11.2 microdeletion syndrome, highlighting the potential of genetic research in Saudi Arabia and the MENA region. It underscores the importance of similar future studies.

Bilharziasis is a widespread trematode parasite that poses a severe public health burden. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) has several pharmacological and traditional properties critical for treating several hepatic disorders. The present study was designed to assess the potential efficacy of T. officinale root (TOR) dietary supplementation with or without praziquantel (PZQ) against liver and intestinal disorders in mice infected with Schistosoma mansoni. This study was conducted on five groups; G1: uninfected control, G2: untreated S. mansoni-infected mice, G3: infected animals treated with 250 mg/kg PZQ for three alternative days, G4: infected animals were orally administered 600 mg/kg bw TOR daily for 10 days, and G5: infected animals that received both PZQ and TOR as previously described. The current findings after different treatments indicated topographical scanning electron microscopy alterations of male adult worms and a critical reduction in worm burden, ova count, granuloma diameter, hepatic and intestinal histological abnormalities, fibrosis, immunohistochemical expression of CD3+ and CD20+ cells, oxidative stress, and interleukin-10, also upregulation of interferon-gamma, and antioxidant enzymes, when compared to the infected untreated mice. The best results were obtained in mice administered PZQ+TOR together because of their antioxidant properties and ability to promote the host immune response to parasitic infection.

الأهداف: يتناول هذا البحث تطبيقات مهارة إدارة الوقت، وأهميتها واستثمارها في تدريس مواد التلاوة والحفظ المختلفة كل حسب مفرداتها خلال الفصل الدراسي، وتطبيقات هذه المهارة لدى المدرس والطالب والعوامل المساعدة خلال العملية التدريسية، وإفادة الباحثين والمدرسين بكيفية استثمار هذه المهارة في المقررات الدراسية الجامعية الأخرى. المنهجية: اتبع البحث المنهج الاستقرائي، والوصفي والتجريبي من خلال استقراء تطبيقات مهارة إدارة الوقت ووصفها وتجريبها، وبيان كيفية استثمارها وتنفيذها في المحاضرة الصفية وخلال العملية التدريسية. النتائج: توصلت الدراسة إلى إيجاد طرائق مقترحة وتطبيقات عملية واسترشادية لدى المدرس والطالب وعوامل ومعززات استثمار إدارة الوقت في إنجاح تدريس مواد التلاوة والتجويد، وكيفية تمكين الطالب من إتقان مفردات مواد التلاوة والحفظ ومهاراتها، والانتقال به من مرحلة التعلم إلى التعليم، وتحقيق الأهداف المرجوة من تدريسها (الحفظ المتقن والتلاوة السليمة) بالإضافة إلى أهمية استثمار هذه المهارة في تدريس كافة المقررات الدراسية والإفادة منها. الخلاصة: خلصت الدراسة إلى ضرورة الإفادة من استراتيجيات إدارة الوقت وإسقاطها على الواقع العملي والتدريسي لمواد التلاوة والحفظ، والابتكار لطرائق فعالة في إدارة الوقت في التدريس، والتفاعل مع هذه التطبيقات في العملية التدريسية، وإدراك إيجابية أثرها في التعليم.

Le thème du conflit entre les civilisations est le sujet le plus abordé dans le roman en général et dans le roman francophone particulier. L'écrivain algérien Kateb Yacine, à travers son roman Nadjma, nous introduit dans un monde spécial tout en mettant en lueur les conflits politiques, sociaux, psychologiques et culturels qu'engendre la colonisation française en Algérie pendant plus d'un siècle. Par les événements du roman qui se sont passés en Algérie et les réactions des personnages vers ces événements, Kateb Yacine aborde le thème du conflit comme une crise politique et culturelle entre deux civilisations différentes durant l'occupation française en Algérie qui touche directement la vie des peuples opprimés. Par conséquent, cela a entraîné un grand changement dans la construction de la société algérienne. Kateb Yacine, avec son roman Nadjma, a décrit l'existence forcée de la colonisation française dans une nation arabe musulmane comme l'Algérie qui a des traditions et une civilisation différente. Il a voulu dévoiler l'impact négatif de l'occupation sur la vie des peuples occupés et comment ce néo-colonialisme constitue une terre fertile au conflit entre deux civilisations ; ce qui a créé un choc des civilisations que l'Algérie connaît à cette époque. Notre étude qui porte le titre « Le conflit entre deux civilisations de l’Occident et de l’Orient dans le roman Nadjma de Kateb Yacine », a pour objectif de poser plusieurs questions comme celle du conflit entre l'Orient et l'Occident et de dévoiler les genres du conflit comme le conflit sociopolitique, le conflit socio-économique, le conflit religieux et aussi le conflit de l’identité en montrant le but de l’écrivain à l’écriture de ce roman. Pour répondre à ces multiples questions, nous allons adopter la méthode pluridisciplinaire recouvrant le côté analytique, thématique et de la recherche, permettant de la sorte d'étaler différents points de vue dans les domaines variés comme le domaine politique, religieux, sociologique, psychanalytique et économique. Et de cette vision vient l'importance de cette étude.

Gender classification is a critical task in computer vision. This task holds substantial importance in various domains, including surveillance, marketing, and human-computer interaction. In this work, the face gender classification model proposed consists of three main phases: the first phase involves applying the Viola-Jones algorithm to detect facial images, which includes four steps: 1) Haar-like features, 2) Integral Image, 3) Adaboost Learning, and 4) Cascade Classifier. In the second phase, four pre-processing operations are employed, namely cropping, resizing, converting the image from(RGB) Color Space to (LAB) color space, and enhancing the images using (HE, CLAHE). The final phase involves utilizing Transfer learning, a powerful deep learning technique that can be effectively employed to Face gender classification using the Alex-Net architecture. The performance evaluation of the proposed gender classification model encompassed three datasets: the LFW dataset, which contained 1,200 facial images. The Faces94 dataset contained 400 facial images, and the family dataset had 400. The Transfer Learning with the Alex-Net model achieved an accuracy of 98.77% on the LFW dataset. Furthermore, the model attained an accuracy rate of 100% on both the Faces94 and family datasets. Thus, the proposed system emphasizes the significance of employing pre-processing techniques and transfer learning with the Alex-Net model. These methods contribute to more accurate results in gender classification. Where, the results achieved by applying image contrast enhancement techniques, such as HE and CLAHE, were compared. CLAHE achieved the best facial classification accuracy compared to HE.

The topic of context is one of the important topics, which was mentioned as a concept in several fields and different fields, and there were many points of view that defined that concept. He specified the title of the research (design contexts in the design of the interior space), as the research sought to identify the concept of context in the interior design of the spaces of sewing workshops. The research was divided into four chapters: The first chapter, which consists of the methodological framework, the problem of research and the need for it, the importance of research, the goal and limits of research for sewing workshops for vocational schools from (2020-2021). The second chapter: consists of previous studies and the theoretical framework of two topics: The first topic: the concept of context in interior design. The second topic: spaces for sewing workshops. The third chapter: It consists of research procedures, and it is the research community. The descriptive approach was adopted in the sample analysis, which is considered one of the important research methods, in order to study phenomena, improve them, and solve problems. It diagnoses the phenomenon accurately to analyze the information and being the most appropriate with the direction of the research. At the end of the chapter, several results were produced according to the analysis form and the indicators of the theoretical framework. The fourth chapter: includes the results, conclusions, recommendations and proposals reached from this research, the most important of which are: 1- A context is one of the main foundations for achieving meaning through simultaneous and sequential elements. 2- Poor proportionality in the scale of the space led to poor perception and assimilation of the components of the internal space

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease in diabetic patients due to damage to the small blood vessels in the retina due to high and low blood sugar levels. Accurate detection and classification of Diabetic Retinopathy is an important task in computer-aided diagnosis, especially when planning for diabetic retinopathy surgery. Therefore, this study aims to design an automated model based on deep learning, which helps ophthalmologists detect and classify diabetic retinopathy severity through fundus images. In this work, a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) with transfer learning and fine tunes has been proposed by using pre-trained networks known as Residual Network-50 (ResNet-50). The overall framework of the proposed classification model is divided into three major phases, including pre-processing, training the Resnet-50 network, and classification with evaluation. In the first phase, pre-processing techniques are applied to the APTOS2019 fundus images dataset to find the best features and highlight some fine details of these images. The resnet-50 network was trained in the second phase using the training set and saved the best model obtained that gives high accuracy during the training process. Finally, this saved model has been implemented on the testing dataset for classification DR grades. The proposed model shows good and best classification performance, which was obtained with an accuracy of 98.3%, a precision of 98.4%, an F1-Score of 98.5 % and the recall of 98.4%.

Materials like carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide are commonly used for vital teeth bleaching. However, there have been concerns regarding their effect on composite-to-bleached enamel bonding strength. The study investigated the impact of organic and antioxidant agents on composite bond strength in bleached enamel with different dental adhesive solvents. Human third molar teeth were sectioned into buccal and lingual halves. The two main adhesive solvent groups evaluated were acetone and alcohol. Each main group was divided into six groups. The positive control group received no bleaching, the negative control group consisted of bleaching with no surface deoxidization; and other experimental categories involved post-bleach treatments with 95% ethanol, sodium ascorbate (10%), acetone solution, or sodium fluoride solution (1.1%). Following the surface treatment and enamel bonding procedure, nano-hybrid composite cylinders measuring 3 × 2 mm were directly cured over the bleached enamel substrate. The shear bond test was performed after 24-h storage and 12,000 thermocycles on a universal testing machine. In this study, one-way ANOVA was used along with Tukey’s HSD tests at a significance level of 0.05. The negative control groups showed significantly lower bond strength than the positive control group. Ethanol surface treatment had superior mean bonding strength in acetone and alcohol-based adhesive solvent groups. The utilization of sodium ascorbate for surface treatment resulted in a significant enhancement of adhesion between the composite material and bleached enamel surface. Sodium fluoride application showed no significant recovery in shear bond strength in both dental adhesive groups. It was concluded that hydrogen peroxide severely compromised the immediate bond strength of composite resin. Surface treatment of bleached enamel with ethanol, sodium ascorbate, and acetone solutions is an effective option for restoring bond strength.

The research focuses on studying the philosophy of empathy and how to utilize it in advertising design. Empathy is one of the most effective ways to communicate with the other. Empathy can be an entry point for designing the advertisement so that the designer put themselves in the shoes of the recipient and the audience, and thus the designers can learn more deeply about the opinions and behaviors of the audience and their trends by asking them directly about their desires, hopes, pains and goals. Empathy also means that the designer is aware of the recipient's feeling and emotional state when interacting with the advertisement presented. Thus, empathy based design research such as the empathy map aims to find common ground with the audience to apply the concept of empathy, and thus formulate advertising ideas from the view of the feelings and desires of the recipient and the requirements and objectives of the advertisement. Hence, the research problem lies in identifying the philosophy and theories of Empathy and how they can be used and utilized in the design of the advertisement, also studying how to use the empathy map in understanding the recipient, and how the advertisement can be designed in light of the emotion classification scheme. The research aims to benefit from the principles and theories of Empathy, as well as the empathy map as a way to reach a deep understanding of the recipient and thus formulate advertising ideas that attract the recipient and correspond to his needs and desires, as well as studying the classifications of feelings categories and how to employ them, formulating advertising ideas in light of the concept of Empathy. The research follows the descriptive approach accompanied by an analytical study. The research has found the importance of the empathy map in reaching a deep understanding of the feelings and needs of the recipient, and then creating the advertising message according to the emotion scheme.

Abstract Background Functional disturbances of the gastrointestinal tract are caused by a number of neurodysplastic conditions, including diseases that are rarer than Hirschsprung’s disease (HSCR), such as ganglion cell immaturity and intestinal neuronal dysplasia (IND). Bcl-2 shows positive immunoreactivity in degenerative and immature ganglion cells (IGCs). This work evaluates the implication of the immunohistochemical expression of Bcl-2 in cases of pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction (IPO) with ganglionated specimens. This 2-year prospective observational study was conducted from January 2017 to December 2019 on all intestinal specimens for cases referred from a pediatric surgery department with clinical data suggesting IPO (abdominal distension > 3 months, intermittent bilious vomiting, no radiological evidence of the transitional zone of HSCR or evidence of mechanical obstruction). The exclusion criteria were patients with IPO related to myopathic disorders, aganglionic biopsies, and specimens with inadequate tissue blocks. The same number of intestinal specimens of cases without IPO was used as a control group. All specimens underwent a histologic examination of ganglion cells and nerve bundles and were also evaluated for Bcl-2 immunohistochemical expression. Results Twenty-one specimens were analyzed, including six colonic resection specimens and 15 intestinal biopsies taken by full-thickness transanal biopsy (n = 12) or incisional biopsy from inadequately functioning stomas (n = 3). The mean ± standard deviation age of the patient cohort was 22 ± 7.4 months (range, 19–153 months), and there were 13 (61.9%) male patients. Bcl-2 protein was strongly positive in 57.1% of the cases, weakly positive in 19%, and negative in 23.8% as well as in all 21 control specimens. Air pollution is one of the important problems facing Iraq. Air pollution is the result of uncontrolled emissions from factories, car exhaust electric generators, and oil refineries and often reaches unacceptable limits by international standards. These pollutants can greatly affect human health and regular population activities. For this reason, there is an urgent need for effective devices to monitor the molecular concentration of air pollutants in cities and urban areas. In this research, an optical system has been built consisting of aHelium-Neonlaser,5mWand at 632.8 nm, a glass cell with a defined size, and a power meter(Gentec-E-model: uno) where a scattering of the laser beam occurs due to air pollution. Two pollutants were examined: water vapor and smoke. Experiments were conducted using these pollutants to calibrate the system and determine its detection sensitivity. With this technique the absorption coefficients, types of pollutants and their concentrations were determined.

The aim of this study is to determine the phytochemical analyses, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Reamuria vermiculata leaves extracts. Organic extracts (methanol, hexane, ethyl acetate, petroleum ether) were screened for their biochemical composition as well as antioxidant and antibacterial activities. In fact, Phytochemical screening of Reamuria vermiculata leaves showed the presence of flavonoids, coumarins, saponins, tannins, terpenes, and quinones. Biochemical screening showed that the methanol was the richest extract in phenolic and tanins with 179.68 mg GAE/ g and 56.25 mg CE/g, respectively. The analysis of DPPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS showed an important scavenging with ethyl acetate extract with IC50 of 0.0012mg/mL, and 0.0006mg/mL respectively. As well as, the methanol extract exhibited an antimicrobial property against bacterial strains. Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhimurium were the most sensitive strains with minimum inhibitory concentration values of 0.3125 mg/mL. These results allow us to propose that Reamuria vermiculata is an excellent source for bioactive molecules exhibiting interesting biological capacities.

Iraq suffers from serious pollution with harmful particles that have important direct and indirect effects on human activities and human health. In this research, a system for detecting pollutants in the air was designed and manufactured using infrared laser technology. This system was used to detect the presence of pollutants in the dust storms that swept the city of Baghdad which could have a negative impact on human health and living organisms. The designed detection system based on the use of infrared laser (IR) with a wavelength of 1064 nm was used for the purposes of detecting pollutants based on the scattering of the laser beam from these pollutants. The system was aligned to obtain the best signal for the scattered rays, which were detected using a digital storage oscilloscope. These studies were conducted during the dust storms that occurred intensely in Baghdad in the months (April, May, June and July) of the year 2022. Where multiple samples were taken at different periods in these storms, measurements were also done during the storm. The types of polluting elements found in the dust of the storms are: carbon, bromine, chlorine, hydrocarbons alcohol, ether, hydroxyl group, carbon, C=C (aromatic ring), nitrogen dioxide (aromatic nitro), and carbon monoxide. The value ​​of dust pollutant concentrations is (125.67 mg. m-3).

Abstract Background Feeding problems are prevalent in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Oromotor exercises (OME) should be started as soon as possible to enhance chewing and drooling. Oromotor exercises consist of active exercises, passive exercises, and sensory stimulation. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of oromotor exercises on feeding, chewing, and drooling in children with CP. Body The American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses methodology were used to conduct a systematic review. Four databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, PEDro, and Google Scholar) were searched; this review includes seven articles, participants were 173 participants ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years. Articles were assessed according to their level of evidence and quality assessment was done by AACPDM, PEDro scale, and JBI scale. Due to the heterogeneity across included studies, descriptive analysis was performed on all of them. Primary outcomes were chewing and drooling. Results showed the effectiveness of OME in improving drooling, but with weak evidence while not effective in improving chewing. Conclusion High-quality studies are required to develop a firm judgment on the influence of oromotor exercises on feeding. The current level of evidence to support the effectiveness of oromotor exercises in children with CP is currently insufficient.

Exposure to aluminum chloride (AlCl3) induces progressive multiregional neurodegeneration in animal models by promoting oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. The current study was designed to assess the potential efficacy of the natural antioxidants celastrol and thymoquinone (TQ) for alleviating AlCl3-induced psychomotor abnormalities and oxidative-inflammatory burden in male albino rats. Four treatment groups were compared: (i) a vehicle control group, (ii) a AlCL3 group receiving daily intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of AlCl3 (10 mg/kg) for 6 weeks, (iii) a AlCl3 plus TQ (10 mg/kg, i.p.) cotreatment group, and (iv) a AlCl3 plus celastrol (1 mg/kg, i.p.) cotreatment group. Open-field, rotarod, and forced swimming tests were conducted to assess locomotor activity, motor coordination, anxiety-like behavior, and depressive-like behavior. Acetylcholine (ACh), dopamine, and serotonin levels were measured in brain homogenates. Malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and catalase activity were measured as oxidative stress markers, while tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interlukin-6 (IL-6) expression levels were measured as inflammatory markers. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA was measured as an index for the endogenous neuroprotective response. Daily AlCl3 injection reduced free ambulation, impaired motor coordination, promoted anxiety- and depression-like behaviors, reduced whole-brain ACh, dopamine, and serotonin concentrations, increased MDA accumulation, reduced TAC, elevated TNF-α and IL-6, and suppressed BDNF mRNA expression. All of these effects were significantly reversed by TQ or celastrol cotreatment. Thus, TQ and celastrol may be promising treatments for AlCl3-induced neurotoxicity as well as neurodegenerative diseases involving oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.

Abstract Background Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that is prevalent in females of reproductive age with signs and symptoms that significantly reduce self-esteem and have a negative impact on their quality of life. The management of PCOS signs and symptoms should result in an improvement in the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients. Polycystic ovarian syndrome questionnaire (PCOSQ) is a disease-specific scale. The PCOSQ has been translated into different languages and assessed in different populations. The validity and reliability of PCOSQ varied depending on the ethnicity and culture of the respondents. The objective of the study was to establish a valid and reliable version of the PCOSQ (AR-PCOSQ) in Arabic. Methods A cross-sectional study using the translated and validated AR-PCOSQ questionnaire was conducted by interviewing 117 women with PCOS. Results The mean age (years) and BMI (kg/m2) of subjects were 29.90 ± 6.33 and 27.21 ± 5.54, respectively. Most of the patients had ≥ 1-year long history of PCOS (73.5%) and a post-school degree (64.96%). The content validity index (CVI) for the AR-PCOSQ from 10 gynecologists was 0.9, indicating satisfactory validity content. The internal consistency for reliability confirmation measured by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was applied. Alpha coefficients for all items together was 0.863, indicating good reliability. Abstract Background The treatment for children and adolescents with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can lead to multiple adverse effects, including poor physical capacity and muscle weakness. This study aimed to determine which is more effective, aerobic exercises or modified strength training program, on muscle strength and quality of life (QOL) for children with ALL. Results In terms of muscle strength, there was a significant difference (P < 0.05) in selected group of muscles elbow flexors, shoulder abductors, hip flexors, knee extensors, and ankle dorsiflexors at both sides in group B compared with group A, whereas there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between groups on QOL. Conclusion The outcomes of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the selected group of muscles at both sides in group B compared with group A; thus, the modified strength training program is more effective for muscle strength of children with ALL than aerobic training, but there was no significant difference between them on QOL. There are many mechanisms of resistance, chemoresistance of HeLa cells to anti-cancer agents seems to be autophagy-mediated. While using very effective anti-cancers such as Doxorubicin and cisplatin, cells overcome the cytotoxicity of these drugs through promotion of what so-called cytoprotective autophagy. Here in this study, we sought to introduce a novel platinum-based compound PBC-II that possesses anti-cancer activity. Our data showed that PBC-II is able to induce apoptosis at relatively low concentrations, with no detectable reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, further experiments demonstrated that exposure of HeLa cells to PBC-II did not promote autophagy; rather, it resulted in accumulation of p62 and decrease in LC3-II levels. Autophagy was then promoted in HeLa cells pharmacologically by Doxorubicin and genetically by siRNA IL-10. In order to confirm promotion of autophagy in our model, we performed acridine orange staining to assess for autophagy under microscope as well as via flow cytometry. We then measured protein level of autophagy markers p62 and LC3 by western blot. Our data indicated that PBC-II interferes with therapy-induced autophagy. We also determined PI3K activity while co-incubation of PBC-II with autophagy inducers. It was clear that PI3K activation decreased when PBC-II was co-administered with autophagy inducers. Collectively, PBC-II exerts unique anti-proliferative effects associated with inhibition of autophagy, which indicates that PBC-II is potentially a promising agent to be used in resistant ovarian tumors. Introduction: In the last few years, smoothing hair treatments has taken the Saudi cosmetic industry by storm, all containing various levels of formaldehyde, a classified carcinogen by The World Health Organization (WHO), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA). With the lack of studies –in Saudi Arabia and worldwide- the level of public awareness and their malpractice is questionable. Materials and Methods: Online and paper self-administered questionnaires were distributed over 1039 females. Including questions assessing knowledge on hair treatments, previous experiences and side effects. Results: (60%) of participant had a poor knowledge score. When asked if formaldehyde is a carcinogen, (70.5%) did not know and (5.1%) answered incorrectly. (33.5%) of participants had done hair treatments before, but (52.3%) didn't read about them prior. The major motive was to facilitate hair management (76.1%). (57.5%) of participants said their hair wasn't examined before the treatment, and only (31%) applied scalp barriers. Flat irons were used in most cases (83.6%). Most importantly, (55.2%) did not know if the product used contains formaldehyde, and (15.2%) used formaldehyde-containing products. The majority (74.7%) reported having side effects, mostly hair fall (56.9%) and dandruff (30.5%). When asked if they would consider using hair treatments again, (61.2%) said no, mainly because of the damage and side effects (90.6%). Limitations: Majority of participants being from the central region of Saudi Arabia and the limited older age group (9.6%). Conclusion: Recently, in 2016, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority published a warning article on four products found in local markets containing high levels of formaldehyde. This shows the lack of industrial supervision and consumers protection and the need of strict monitoring regimens in stores and beauty salons. Future studies should be applied in assessing the public's misconceptions and practices, along with campaigns and social media efforts to raise the overall knowledge.

هدف البحث الى تعرف الخوف من وباء كوفيد- 19 لدى طلبة الجامعة، وقد استعملت الباحثة (منهج البحث الوصفي)، تكون مجتمع البحث من طلبة جامعة بغداد من الاناث والذكور/ الدراسة الاولية/ الصباحية للعام الدراسي (2019-2020) موزعين على (24) كلية، منها (14) كلية علمية و(10) كليات إنسانية. وبلغت عينة البحث (200) طالباً وطالبة من مجتمع البحث موزعين على(اربعة) كليات اختيرت بالأسلوب العشوائي من جامعة بغداد كليتان علمية وكليتان انسانية، وتمثيل متغير النوع (ذكور- اناث)، متساوياً، بواقع (100) من الذكور و(100) من الإناث، استعملت الباحثة مقياس الخوف من وباء كوفيد-19لـ هورسو واخرون (Ahorsu et al ,2020) وقد تم التحقق من الصدق (الترجمة والظاهري) ولاستخراج نتائج البحث استعملت الباحثة، الاختبار التائي لعينة واحدة والاختبار التائي لعينتين مستقلتين. نتائج البحث: وتوصل البحث الى النتائج الاتية": - بين البحث وجود فروق ذات دلالة احصائية لدى طلبة الجامعة في الخوف من وباء كوفيد-19على نحو عام. كما يوجد فرق في الخوف من وباء كوفيد-19 وفقا لمتغير الجنس وظهر لدى الاناث.

Grewia asiatica L. fruit natively called phalsa is a popular berry of Pakistan and widely consumed in the form of fresh juices and carbonated drinks in the summer season. The berry is enriched with antioxidants such as phenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and vitamin C. Scientifically, it is the least explored berry in terms of neuromodulatory activities, and therefore, in the designed study, chronically fed rats with the different dilutions (5%−30%) of fruit juice were subjected to behavioral assessment for anxiety, depression, and cognition (spatial memory) followed by biochemical analysis of isolated brains. Results revealed a prominent impact of 20 and 30% dilutions of fruit exudate as treated animals showed anxiolytic behavior to central zone (P < 0.05) of open field test (OFT) and open arms of elevated plus maze (EPM) (P < 0.05) in anxiety models. Overall, immobility of rats treated with a higher concentration of exudate in forced swim test (FST) was reduced (P < 0.05) presenting antidepressant-like activity. Moreover, in learning and memory experimental models, the treated animals reversed scopolamine-induced amnesic effects as evident from improved step-through latencies (P < 0.05 vs. scopolamine; passive avoidance test), spontaneous alternation behavior (P < 0.05 vs. scopolamine; Y-maze test), discrimination index (P < 0.05 vs. scopolamine; novel object recognition test), and escape latencies (P < 0.05 vs. scopolamine; Morris water maze). Biochemical studies of isolated brains from treated rats demonstrated significantly elevated levels of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase (P < 0.05), whereas levels of acetylcholinesterase and malondialdehyde level (P < 0.05) were reduced, indicating its potential to reduce oxidative damage in the brain and modulation with the cholinergic system. The outcomes of studies support the benefits of phytoconstituents possessed by G. asiatica fruit in the amelioration of neurological disorders that could be due to their antioxidative capacity or due to interaction with GABAergic, serotonergic, and cholinergic systems in the brain.

Aims. Neuropathic pain following nerve injury does not respond well to most available pharmacological remedies. We aimed to compare the outcome of the addition of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) to pregabalin for neuropathic pain treatment. Methods. Adult female albino rats (n=100) were randomized to receive traumatic sciatic nerve injury or sham. Animals were then randomized to ADMSC treatment with or without pregabalin. We conducted a battery of neurobehavioral and electrophysiological to assess neuropathic pain. Following sacrifice, we evaluated the histological changes and gene expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the sciatic nerve. Serum and sciatic nerve tissue pro- and inflammatory cytokine levels were also assessed. Results. (1) All treatments significantly improved thermal withdrawal latency, sciatic nerve conduction velocity, and proinflammatory cytokine levels in injured animals, with no significant effect of the combined treatments compared to pregabalin monotherapy (p

Spider mites (Acari: Tetranychidae) are pests of a wide range of agricultural crops, vegetables, and ornamental plants. Their ability to rapidly develop resistance to synthetic pesticides has prompted the development of new strategies for their control. Evaluation of synthetic pesticides and bio-pesticides—and more recently the identification of RNA interference (RNAi) target genes—requires an ability to deliver test compounds efficiently. Here we describe a novel method that uses a sheet-like structure mimicking plant leaves and allows for oral delivery of liquid test compounds to a large number of individuals in a limited area simultaneously (~100 mites cm−2). The main component is a fine nylon mesh sheet that holds the liquid within each pore, much like a plant cell, and consequently allows for greater distribution of specific surface area even in small amounts (10 µl cm−2 for 100-µm mesh opening size). The nylon mesh sheet is placed on a solid plane (e.g., the undersurface of a Petri dish), a solution or suspension of test compounds is pipetted into the mesh sheet, and finally a piece of paraffin wax film is gently stretched above the mesh so that the test mites can feed through it. We demonstrate the use of the method for oral delivery of a tracer dye (Brilliant Blue FCF), pesticides (abamectin and bifenazate), dsRNA targeting the Vacuolar-type H+-VATPase gene, or fluorescent nanoparticles to three species of Tetranychus spider mites (Acari: Tetranychidae) and to the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The method is fast, easy, and highly reproducible and can be adapted to facilitate several aspects of bioassays.

The current research is interested in the objective study of revitalizing the religious sites and the extent to which they achieve the pragmatic and semantic ends, because they are derived from history and civilization and have a clear impact over the recipient. The research question is (what are the techniques of developing the spaces of the religious shrines in accordance with revitalizing the interior spaces within them?). The research aims at determining the weak and strong points in the process of revitalizing the interior spaces in the religious shrines. The theoretical framework consists of two parts: the first addressed the revitalization in the interior design, and the second addressed the religious shrines and their influence in the interior design. The current research procedures utilized the descriptive approach. The research studied the religious shrines that witness revitalization within the new construction in the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and Imam Abbas in addition to choosing (the space of the dome) for the study. The results of the study show that the organization of the roofing of the spaces in the two samples came to ensure the functional and decorative sides in new ways and has been away from the historical organization represented by the originality of the space

The physical and chemical properties of a new organic composite including PVK-MEH-PPV bi-block copolymer and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were recorded. The functionalization and the charge transfer that occurs between donor and acceptor were examined and computed. In fact, the stationary and time-resolved photoluminescence properties were used to examine the effect of the PCBM on the optical properties of the PVK-MEH-PPV matrix. The photoluminescence quenching accompanied by faster PL decay confirmed the charge transfer and interaction process. The electrical and optoelectronic properties and the charge carriers’ injection in the resulting composite were examined. The experimental conclusion was corroborated and confirmed by a calculation based on density functional theory (DFT). Hence, the combination of experimental and theoretical results indicated that the result composite can be applied as an active layer for organic solar cells.

Targeted drug delivery offers great opportunities for treating cancer. Here, we developed a novel anticancer targeted delivery system for piperine (Pip), an alkaloid prodrug derived from black pepper that exhibits anticancer effects. The tailored delivery system comprises aggregated hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAPs) functionalized with phosphonate groups (HAP-Ps). Pip was loaded into HAPs and HAP-Ps at pH 7.2 and 9.3 to obtain nanoformulations. The nanoformulations were characterized using several techniques and the release kinetics and anticancer effects investigated in vitro. The Pip loading capacity was >20%. Prolonged release was observed with kinetics dependent on pH, surface modification, and coating. The nanoformulations fully inhibited monolayer HCT116 colon cancer cells compared to Caco2 colon cancer and MCF7 breast cancer cells after 72 h, whereas free Pip had a weaker effect. The nanoformulations inhibited ~60% in HCT116 spheroids compared to free Pip. The Pip-loaded nanoparticles were also coated with gum Arabic and functionalized with folic acid as a targeting ligand. These functionalized nanoformulations had the lowest cytotoxicity towards normal WI-38 fibroblast cells. These preliminary findings suggest that the targeted delivery system comprising HAP aggregates loaded with Pip, coated with gum Arabic, and functionalized with folic acid are a potentially efficient agent against colon cancer.

Effect of some neurotransmitters on pituitary in bull-camelThe present in vitro study is an attempt for profound exploration of the influence of some inhibitory (GABA and taurine) and excitatory neurotransmitters (glutamic acid and L-Argnine) on pituitary gland gonadotropic hormones in camels. For this purpose, neurotransmitters were added individually to pituitary cells in vitro. Results of current study revealed that addition of GABA alone has a potent inhibitory influence on gonadotropins release; an action which was dosedependent. In addition, exaggerated high dose of GABA added to culture resulting in depression of GnRH activity. Inhibitory neurotransmitter taurine preserved gonadotropins release within their normal values and maintained the stimulatory potentials of GnRH. On the other side, nitric oxide had a stimulatory action at small dose rates and a depressive effect at higher dose rates. Glutamic acid as the major endogenous excitatory neurotransmitter had a potent dose-dependent excitatory effect upon FSH and LH as well as GnRH stimulatory influence.

The objectives of the study is to determine the epidemiology of dyspraxia among preschool children in Alexandria. Method of the study: a case control study was designed. The sample of the study was 33 children (26 ♂ and 7 ♀) with dyspraxia and 33 normal children as a control. Both groups were subjected to the followings a) screening phase, b) developmental assessment and, c) clinical assessment. The results: Males are significantly affected more than females (p= 0.037). Prematurity (p= 0.012), allergic disease (p= 0.004), and positive family history (p= 0.000) are significant factors for dyspraxia. In this research a system for Arabic word segmentation into letters and recognition has been designed by dividing it into five groups (plosives, fricatives, nasals, glide and semi-vowel sounds) based on articulatory phonetics. This system include four main stages: Stage one: Endpoint algorithm has been used to identify the beginning and the end of word. Stage two: A new segmentation algorithm has been suggested and implemented depending upon time domain features and Arabic phonology rules. Stage three: This stage includes letters feature extraction depending on linear predictive coding and system data base constructing which include vectors of features for the segmented letters from words and regarding letter recurring in different positions in the word. Stage four: Includes Arabic letters recognition according to articulation which entails using Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) method that uses dynamic programming basics to obtain the matching path for the least distance accumulated value, where the word used in segmentation and recognition belongs to the four persons who create the data base and the results were in consistence which ranged from (75- 80)%

The entire world has been suffering from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic since March 11, 2020. More than a year later, the COVID-19 vaccination brought hope to control this viral pandemic. Here, we review the unknowns of the COVID-19 vaccination, such as its longevity, asymptomatic spread, long-term side effects, and its efficacy on immunocompromised patients. In addition, we discuss challenges associated with the COVID-19 vaccination, such as the global access and distribution of vaccine doses, adherence to hygiene guidelines after vaccination, the emergence of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants, and vaccine resistance. Despite all these challenges and the fact that the end of the COVID-19 pandemic is still unclear, vaccines have brought great hope for the world, with several reports indicating a significant decline in the risk of COVID19-related infection and hospitalizations., (© 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

This chapter briefly describes the universal intricacies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, from the ineffectiveness of distance measures, the massive economic impacts, and the severe mental health challenges to the failure of finding a vaccine, a therapeutic agent or even accurately diagnosing the infection. The entire world is suffering, but every country is trying to combat this pandemic individually, and this deed is the main barrier that prevents reaching a peaceful end.
