3. A Complex Neural Network Model for Predicting a Personal Success Based on Their Activity in Social Networks

Abstract

The development and improvement of effective tools for predicting human behavior in real life through the features of its virtual activity opens up broad prospects for psychological support of the individual. The presence of such tools can be used by psychologists in educational, professional and other areas in the formation of trajectories of harmonious person's development. Currently, active research is underway to determine psychological characteristics based on publicly available data. Such studies develop the direction of "Psychology of social networks". As markers for determining the psychological characteristics of people, various parameters obtained from their personal pages in social networks are used (texts of posts and reposts, the number of different elements on the page, statistical information about audio and video recordings, information about groups, and others). There is a difficulty in obtaining and analyzing a data set this big, as there are non-linear and hidden relationships between individual data elements. As a result, the classic methods of information processing become inefficient. Therefore, in our work to develop a comprehensive model of success based on the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, we use an approach based on artificial neural networks. The labels of the input records are used to divide the subjects of the study into five clusters using clustering methods (kmeans). In the course of our work, we gradually expand the set of input parameters to include metrics of users' personal pages, and compare the results to determine the impact of qualitative parameters on the accuracy of the artificial neural network. The results reflect the solution of one of the tasks of the research carried out within the framework of the project of the Russian Science Foundation and serve as material for an information and analytical system for automatic forecasting of human life activity based on the metrics of his personal profile in the social network VKontakte.

Abstract

AimsIn heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), excessive redistribution of blood volume into the central circulation leads to elevations of intracardiac pressures with exercise limitations. Splanchnic ablation for volume management (SAVM) has been proposed as a therapeutic intervention. Here we present preliminary safety and efficacy data from the initial roll-in cohort of the REBALANCE-HF trial.Methods and resultsThe open-label (roll-in) arm of REBALANCE-HF will enrol up to 30 patients, followed by the randomized, sham-controlled portion of the trial (up to 80 additional patients). Patients with HF, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥50%, and invasive peak exercise pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) ≥25 mmHg underwent SAVM. Baseline and follow-up assessments included resting and exercise PCWP, New York Heart Association (NYHA) class, Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ), 6-min walk test, and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). Efficacy and safety were assessed at 1 and 3 months. Here we report on the first 18 patients with HFpEF that have been enrolled into the roll-in, open-label arm of the study across nine centres; 14 (78%) female; 16 (89%) in NYHA class III; and median (interquartile range) age 75.2 (68.4-81) years, LVEF 61.0 (56.0-63.2)%, and average (standard deviation) 20 W exercise PCWP 36.4 (±8.6) mmHg. Abstract

Increasingly, today's adult online college student is a Millennial possessing high self-esteem but low self-efficacy as cognitive characteristics. This work examines research into these cognitive differences, Bandura's self-efficacy theory, and the role of instructor feedback aimed at improving self-efficacy and self-directedness among these adult students. A resulting feedback model is offered for application in online education to ad- dress these challenges and improve persistence.

6. The Time It Takes to Reveal Embarrassing Information in a Mobile Phone Survey

Abstract

To explore socially desirable responding in telephone surveys, this study examines response latencies in answers to 27 questions in a corpus of 319 audio-recorded voice interviews on iPhones. Response latencies were compared when respondents (a) answered questions on sensitive vs. nonsensitive topics (as classified by online raters); (b) produced more vs. less socially desirable answers; and (c) were interviewed by a professional interviewer or an automated system. Respondents answered questions on sensitive topics more quickly than on nonsensitive topics, though patterns varied by question format (categorical, numerical, ordinal). Independent of question sensitivity, respondents gave less socially desirable answers more quickly when answering categorical and ordinal questions but more slowly when answering numeric questions. Respondents were particularly quicker to answer sensitive questions when asked by interviewers than by the automated system. Findings demonstrate that response times can be (differently) revealing about question and response sensitivity in a telephone survey.

Abstract

This paper discusses the general state of information technology in New Zealand society, current issues, and policies. It is a qualitative study that reviews recent scholarly articles, periodicals, and surveys in order to create an understanding of some of the information technology issues and trends in New Zealand. After reviewing previous research, it assesses the potential existence and nature of a 'digital divide' in New Zealand society whilst also evaluating possible strategic responses to the issue. New Zealand society has rapidly accepted emerging online trends as well as achieving an overall high level of Internet provision nationally. Through government policy and education, this small island nation has remained at the forefront of information technology and can be considered somewhat of an e-democracy. However, despite these positives, there is a risk of low-income communities being left behind as New Zealand society becomes increasingly dependent on IT in the workplace and in governmental administration.

10. Influence of trap type on the captures of Lymantria disparL. (Lepidoptera: Erebidae): trials from different European countries

Abstract

The spongy moth, Lymantria disparL. (Lepidoptera: Eribidae), is a serious pest of deciduous forests and causes widespread defoliation. Despite this, few studies have evaluated the wide-ranging surveillance of adult male L. disparusing different types of pheromone-baited traps. We evaluated the effect of trap type on captures of adult male L. disparat 18 sites in Europe; two in Slovenia, two in Spain, 12 in Greece, one in Hungary, and one in Croatia. Seven different trap types, G trap and eGymer 1–6, were evaluated June–September 2022 and 2023. Generally, captures of L. disparstarted in late June and lasted until mid-August. Trap type affected captures. The G trap (consisting of a dark brown plastic rectangular parallel-piped body) caught significantly more L. disparthan other trap types in many instances, particularly when the peak of the flight period occurred. Captures of L. disparin pairs of different trap types showed a significant correlation in trap catch in most investigations, suggesting that most detected comparable fluctuations in L. disparabundance. We recommend that the G trap be used for wide-ranging surveillance of L. disparin Europe.

Abstract

IMPORTANCE: Greater splanchnic nerve ablation may improve hemodynamics in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility and safety of endovascular right-sided splanchnic nerve ablation for volume management (SAVM). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a phase 2, double-blind, 1:1, sham-controlled, multicenter, randomized clinical trial conducted at 14 centers in the US and 1 center in the Republic of Georgia. Patients with HFpEF, left ventricular ejection fraction of 40% or greater, and invasively measured peak exercise pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) of 25 mm Hg or greater were included. Study data were analyzed from May 2023 to June 2024. INTERVENTION: SAVM vs sham control procedure. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The primary efficacy end point was a reduction in legs-up and exercise PCWP at 1 month. The primary safety end point was serious device- or procedure-related adverse events at 1 month. Secondary efficacy end points included HF hospitalizations, changes in exercise function and health status through 12 months, and baseline to 1-month change in resting, legs-up, and 20-W exercise PCWP. RESULTS: A total of 90 patients (median [range] age, 71 [47-90] years; 58 female [64.4%]) were randomized at 15 centers (44 SAVM vs 46 sham). There were no differences in adverse events between groups. The primary efficacy end point did not differ between SAVM or sham (mean between-group difference in PCWP, −0.03 mm Hg; 95% CI, −2.5 to 2.5 mm Hg; P = .95). There were also no differences in the secondary efficacy end points. There was no difference in the primary safety end point between the treatment (6.8% [3 of 44]) and sham (2.2% [1 of 46]) groups (difference, 4.6%; 95% CI, −6.1% to 15.4%; P = .36). There was no difference in the incidence of orthostatic hypotension between the treatment (11.4% [5 of 44]) and sham (6.5% [3 of 46]) groups (difference, 4.9%; 95% CI, −9.2% to 18.8%; P = .48). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Results show that SAVM was safe and technically feasible, but it did not reduce exercise PCWP at 1 month or improve clinical outcomes at 12 months in a broad population of patients with HFpEF. Abstract

Splanchnic vasoconstriction augments transfer of blood volume from the abdomen into the thorax, which may increase filling pressures and hemodynamic congestion in patients with noncompliant hearts. Therapeutic interruption of splanchnic nerve activity holds promise to reduce hemodynamic congestion in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Here we describe (1) the rationale and design of the first sham-controlled, randomized clinical trial of splanchnic nerve ablation for HFpEF and (2) the 12-month results of the lead-in (open-label) trial's participants. REBALANCE-HF is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled clinical trial of endovascular, transcatheter, right-sided greater splanchnic nerve ablation for volume management (SAVM) in patients with HFpEF. The primary objectives are to evaluate the safety and efficacy of SAVM and identify responder characteristics to inform future studies. The trial consists of an open-label lead-in phase followed by the randomized, sham-controlled phase. The primary efficacy endpoint is the reduction in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) at 1-month follow-up compared to baseline during passive leg raise and 20W exercise. Secondary and exploratory endpoints include health status (Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire), 6-minute walk test distance, New York Heart Association class, and NTproBNP levels at 3, 6 and 12 months. The primary safety endpoint is device- or procedure-related serious adverse events at the 1-month follow-up. The lead-in phase of the study, which enrolled 26 patients with HFpEF who underwent SAVM, demonstrated favorable safety outcomes and reduction in exercise PCWP at 1 month post-procedure and improvements in all secondary endpoints at 6 and 12 months of follow-up. The randomized phase of the trial (n = 44 SAVM; n = 46 sham) has completed enrollment, and follow-up is ongoing. REBALANCE-HF is the first sham-controlled randomized clinical trial of greater splanchnic nerve ablation in HFpEF. Initial 12-month open-label results are promising, and the results of the randomized portion of the trial will inform the design of a future pivotal clinical trial. Abstract

In this paper we study the relaxation singularities of human motor system at aging. Our purpose is to examine the structure of force output variability as a function of human aging in the time and frequency domains. For analysis of experimental data we have developed here the statistical theory of relaxation of force output fluctuation with taking into account the effects of two relaxation channels. The first of them contains the contribution of short-range correlation whereas other relaxation component reflects the effect of long-range correlation. Abstract

Dynamical wiring and rewiring in neural networks are carried out by activity-dependent growth and retraction of axons and dendrites, guided by gudance molecules, released by target cells. Experience-dependent structural changes in cortical microcurcuts lead to changes in activity, i.e. to changes in information encoded. Specific pattens of external stimulation can lead to creation of new synaptical connections between neurons. Abstract

We propose a model for description of activity-dependent evolution and self-wiring between binary neurons. Specifically, this model can be used for investigation of growth of neuronal connectivity in the developing neocortex. By using computational simulations with appropriate training pattern sequences, we show that long-term memory can be encoded in neuronal connectivity and that the external stimulations form part of the functioning neocortical circuit. It is proposed that such binary neuron representations of point-like cortical neurons fail to reproduce cytoarchitectural differences of the neocortical organization, which has implications for inadequacies of compartmental models., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

In this work we develop a new method of diagnosing the nervous system diseases and a new approach in studying human gait dynamics with the help of the theory of discrete non-Markov random processes. The stratification of the phase clouds and the statistical non-Markov effects in the time series of the dynamics of human gait are considered. We carried out the comparative analysis of the data of four age groups of healthy people: children (from 3 to 10 year olds), teenagers (from 11 to 14 year oulds), young people (from 21 up to 29 year oulds), elderly persons (from 71 to 77 year olds) and Parkinson patients. The full data set are analyzed with the help of the phase portraits of the four dynamic variables, the power spectra of the initial time correlation function and the memory functions of junior orders, the three first points in the spectra of the statistical non-Markov parameter. The received results allow to define the predisposition of the probationers to deflections in the central nervous system caused by Parkinson's disease. We have found out distinct differencies between the five submitted groups. Abstract

The study of social networks and especially of the stochastic dynamics of the diseases spread in human population has recently attracted considerable attention in statistical physics. In this work we present a new statistical method of analyzing the spread of epidemic processes of grippe and acute respiratory track infections (ARTI) by means of the theory of discrete non-Markov stochastic processes. We use the results of our last theory (Phys. Rev. E 65, 046107 (2002)) to study statistical memory effects, long - range correlation and discreteness in real data series, describing the epidemic dynamics of human ARTI infections and grippe. We have carried out the comparative analysis of the data of the two infections (grippe and ARTI) in one of the industrial districts of Kazan, one of the largest cities of Russia. The experimental data are analyzed by the power spectra of the initial time correlation function and the memory functions of junior orders, the phase portraits of the four first dynamic variables, the three first points of the statistical non-Markov parameter and the locally averaged kinetic and relaxation parameters. The received results give an opportunity to provide strict quantitative description of the regular and stochastic components in epidemic dynamics of social networks taking into account their time discreteness and effects of statistical memory. Abstract

The basic purpose of the paper is to draw the attention of researchers to new possibilities of differentiation of similar signals having different nature. One of examples of such kind of signals is presented by seismograms containing recordings of earthquakes (EQ's) and technogenic explosions (TE's). We propose here a discrete stochastic model for possible solution of a problem of strong EQ's forecasting and differentiation of TE's from the weak EQ's. Theoretical analysis is performed by two independent methods: with the use of statistical theory of discrete non-Markov stochastic processes (Phys. Rev. E62,6178 (2000)) and the local Hurst exponent. Time recordings of seismic signals of the first four dynamic orthogonal collective variables, six various plane of phase portrait of four dimensional phase space of orthogonal variables and the local Hurst exponent have been calculated for the dynamic analysis of the earth states. 20. Stochastic Dynamics of Time Correlations in Complex Systems with Discrete Time

Abstract

In this paper we present the concept of description of random processes in complex systems with the discrete time. It involves the description of kinetics of discrete processes by means of the chain of finite-difference non-Markov equations for time correlation functions (TCF). We have introduced the dynamic (time dependent) information Shannon entropy $S_i(t)$ where i=0,1,2,3,... as an information measure of stochastic dynamics of time correlation $(i=0)$ and time memory (i=1,2,3,...). The set of functions $S_i(t)$ constitute the quantitative measure of time correlation disorder $(i=0)$ and time memory disorder (i=1,2,3,...) in complex system. Harnessing the infinite set of orthogonal dynamic random variables on a basis of Gram-Shmidt orthogonalization procedure tends to creation of infinite chain of finite-difference non-Markov kinetic equations for discrete TCF and memory function.The solution of the equations above thereof brings to the recurrence relations between the TCF and MF of senior and junior orders. The results obtained offer considerable scope for attack on stochastic dynamics of discrete random processes in a complex systems. Application of this technique on the analysis of stochastic dynamics of RR-intervals from human ECG's shows convincing evidence for a non-Markovian phenomemena associated with a peculiarities in short and long-range scaling. Abstract

The REDUCE LAP-HF II (Reduce Elevated Left Atrial Pressure in Patients With Heart Failure II) trial found that, compared with a sham procedure, the Corvia Atrial Shunt did not improve outcomes in heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction. However, after 12-month follow-up, “responders” (peak-exercise pulmonary vascular resistance <1.74 WU and absence of a cardiac rhythm management device) were identified.

28. Belonging, Identity and Third Culture Kids: Life Histories of Former International School Students

Abstract

This article is based on a multiple case study which examines the lives of a group of 11 former international school students who all attended an international school between 20 and 50 years ago. The research design was based on a review of the literature on third culture kids and adult third culture kids, covering emotional and relational issues such as sense of belonging, identity and the nature of relationships formed. Data were gathered through both postal questionnaires and indepth interviews and multi-dimensional pictures of the lives of the former international students have been generated. Links between the literature and personal experiences are explored.

31. The Use of Ethnography and Criticism as Methods for Disclosing Classroom Settings.

Abstract

The potential uses of ethnography and aesthetic criticism as sources for developing a qualitative approach to evaluating classrooms are delineated. Such work involves three interrelated processes--description, interpretation, and appraisal--which are discussed and exemplified. When describing a classroom, the evaluator vividly renders it, recreating it for others, and points out its pervasive quality. Interpretation consists of discussing the social meaning of classroom events, analyzing a classroom into its constituent parts and resynthesizing them to form a whole, and relating classroom events to external considerations. Appraisal entails weighing whether (and on what grounds) a particular lesson or practice is worthwhile and whether the lesson or practice was executed well. These three processes necessitate the researcher's drawing upon many ideas from education, sociology, philosophy, psychology, and so forth. Additionally, consideration is given to qualifications of an educational evaluator using qualitative methods--a broad understanding of classrooms, an ability to observe classrooms sensitivity, and the ability to transmit the experience to others. Abstract

Background: Experimental and clinical data suggest that reducing inflammation without affecting lipid levels may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Yet, the inflammatory hypothesis of atherothrombosis has remained unproved. Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind trial of canakinumab, a therapeutic monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-1β, involving 10,061 patients with previous myocardial infarction and a high-sensitivity C-reactive protein level of 2 mg or more per liter. The trial compared three doses of canakinumab (50 mg, 150 mg, and 300 mg, administered subcutaneously every 3 months) with placebo. The primary efficacy end point was nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or cardiovascular death. RESULTS: At 48 months, the median reduction from baseline in the high-sensitivity C-reactive protein level was 26 percentage points greater in the group that received the 50-mg dose of canakinumab, 37 percentage points greater in the 150-mg group, and 41 percentage points greater in the 300-mg group than in the placebo group. Canakinumab did not reduce lipid levels from baseline. At a median follow-up of 3.7 years, the incidence rate for the primary end point was 4.50 events per 100 person-years in the placebo group, 4.11 events per 100 person-years in the 50-mg group, 3.86 events per 100 person-years in the 150-mg group, and 3.90 events per 100 person-years in the 300-mg group. The hazard ratios as compared with placebo were as follows: in the 50-mg group, 0.93 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.80 to 1.07; P = 0.30); in the 150-mg group, 0.85 (95% CI, 0.74 to 0.98; P = 0.021); and in the 300-mg group, 0.86 (95% CI, 0.75 to 0.99; P = 0.031). The 150-mg dose, but not the other doses, met the prespecified multiplicity-adjusted threshold for statistical significance for the primary end point and the secondary end point that additionally included hospitalization for unstable angina that led to urgent revascularization (hazard ratio vs. placebo, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.73 to 0.95; P = 0.005). Canakinumab was associated with a higher incidence of fatal infection than was placebo. There was no significant difference in all-cause mortality (hazard ratio for all canakinumab doses vs. placebo, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.83 to 1.06; P = 0.31). Conclusions: Antiinflammatory therapy targeting the interleukin-1β innate immunity pathway with canakinumab at a dose of 150 mg every 3 months led to a significantly lower rate of recurrent cardiovascular events than placebo, independent of lipid-level lowering. Abstract

The problem of the research lies in the possibility of making the tests used through accurate devices that work according to the computer system to avoid self-evaluation, which takes a lot of time in the testing process, the study aimed to design some tests of kinaesthetic perception using the computer-programmed atrousonic distance sensor and identify the level of some kinaesthetic perception tests For the research sample, the research sample was represented by a group of volleyball players in (Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar), totalling (40) players divided according to their specializations in playing. The results of the Colum grove Seminarov test for the normal distribution of volleyball players according to their specialities as well as the results of the analysis of variance of the value of (F) The calculated and tabular tests for the perception of the distance for the right hand and the perception of the distance for the left hand of the volleyball players, the researchers concluded that there are differences between the specialities of playing in the volleyball team and this is evidence that the specifications of the volleyball players differ from one player to another according to the requirements of modern play. Abstract

The article presents the results of applying a genetic algorithm to find the most optimal architecture of the neural network that would solve classification problem with minimal errors. The stages of the genetic algorithm are considered and the rule for encoding the parameters of the neural network is determined. A genetic algorithm for constructing the optimal architecture of a multilayer perceptron for solving classification problems has been developed. The algorithm independently creates a random population, evolves, creating new generations with more adapted individuals, i.e., neural networks with better architectures than previous generations. The paper describes the process of population formation, substantiates the choice of the fitness function and the method of selecting parents. Modifications of the crossover and mutation operators are proposed in order to ensure the operability of the algorithm on variable size individuals. A software tool that generates a neural network with the best parameters for solving classification problems has been developed on Python3 programming language.
