El presente artículo tiene como finalidad estructurar una visión general sobre el streaming de videojuegos como agente generador de empleo y nuevas carreras profesionales en el Ecuador. En la metodología se planteó un diseño no experimental de alcance descriptivo y correlacional, de enfoque mixto, empleando el método Delphi en el componente cualitativo, mientras que se ejecutaron encuestas para solventar el componente cuantitativo. En este sentido, se pudo observar una mayor participación de la generación Z y millennials en este tipo de actividades, lo que a su vez refleja el interés por formar parte del streaming de videojuegos, mientras que otros que ya son usuarios han percibido un aporte o beneficio económico por jugar o crear contenido. Además, se resalta al género masculino como el principal participante en estas plataformas. Se concluyó que hay relación entre las personas que dedican horas a los videojuegos y el deseo de obtener réditos económicos a través de este modelo de negocio. De igual forma se observa una tendencia de los gamers en profesionalizarse en carreras de marketing digital y producción audiovisual y multimedia, lo cual sirve para que las instituciones de educación superior ajusten y fortalezcan los programas académicos relacionados, así como enfocar de manera más efectiva sus estrategias de marketing hacia este público objetivo.

Background. Uncontrolled donation after circulatory death (uDCD) increases organ availability for kidney transplantation (KT) at the expense of a higher risk of primary graft nonfunction (PNF). At least half of the cases of PNF are secondary to graft venous thrombosis. The potential benefit from prophylactic anticoagulation in this scenario remains unclear. Methods. In this single-center retrospective study we compared 2 consecutive cohorts of KT from uDCD with increased (≥0.8) renal resistive index (RRI) in the Doppler ultrasound examination performed within the first 24–72 h after transplantation: 36 patients did not receive anticoagulation (“nonanticoagulation group”) and 71 patients underwent prophylactic anticoagulation until normalization of RRI in follow-up Doppler examinations (“anticoagulation group”). Results. Anticoagulation was initiated at a median of 2 d (interquartile range, 2–3) after transplantation and maintained for a median of 12 d (interquartile range, 7–18). In 4 patients (5.6%), anticoagulation had to be prematurely stopped because of the development of a hemorrhagic complication. Abstract Background The global spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection causing the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has raised serious concern for patients with chronic disease. A correlation has been identified between the severity of COVID-19 and a patient’s preexisting comorbidities. Although COVID-19 primarily involves the respiratory system, dysfunction in multiple organ systems is common, particularly in the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, immune, renal, and nervous systems. Patients with amyloid transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis represent a population particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 morbidity due to the multisystem nature of ATTR amyloidosis. Main body ATTR amyloidosis is a clinically heterogeneous progressive disease, resulting from the accumulation of amyloid fibrils in various organs and tissues. Amyloid deposition causes multisystem clinical manifestations, including cardiomyopathy and polyneuropathy, along with gastrointestinal symptoms and renal dysfunction. Given the potential for exacerbation of organ dysfunction, physicians note possible unique challenges in the management of patients with ATTR amyloidosis who develop multiorgan complications from COVID-19. While the interplay between COVID-19 and ATTR amyloidosis is still being evaluated, physicians should consider that the heightened susceptibility of patients with ATTR amyloidosis to multiorgan complications might increase their risk for poor outcomes with COVID-19. Conclusion Patients with ATTR amyloidosis are suspected to have a higher risk of morbidity and mortality due to age and underlying ATTR amyloidosis-related organ dysfunction. While further research is needed to characterize this risk and management implications, ATTR amyloidosis patients might require specialized management if they develop COVID-19. The risks of delaying diagnosis or interrupting treatment for patients with ATTR amyloidosis should be balanced with the risk of exposure in the health care setting. Both physicians and patients must adapt to a new construct for care during and possibly after the pandemic to ensure optimal health for patients with ATTR amyloidosis, minimizing treatment interruptions.

This paper presents the application of an linear quadratic gaussian (LQG) control strategy for concrete caisson deployment for marine structures. Currently these maneuvers are carried out manually with the risk that this entails. Control systems for these operations with classical regulators have begun to be implemented. They try to reduce risks, but they still need to be optimized due to the complexity of the dynamics involved during the sinking process and the contact with the sea bed. A linear approximation of the dynamic model of the caisson is obtained and an LQG control strategy is implemented based on the Kalman filter (KF). The results of the proposed LQG control strategy are compared to the ones given by a classic controller. It is noted that the proposed system is positioned with greater precision and accuracy, as shown in the different simulations and in the Monte Carlo study. Furthermore, the control efforts are less than with classical regulators. For all the reasons cited above, it is concluded that there is a clear improvement in performance with the control system proposed.

Because of their rarity in men, systemic lupus erythematous and lupus nephritis (LN) are poorly understood in men. Our aim was to analyze the clinical presentation and course of histology-proven systemic lupus erythematous and LN in males and to determine the risk factors for progression to end-stage renal disease. Methods: Fifty patients from 2 historical cohorts in Spain (Hospital 12 de Octubre) and Uruguay were retrospectively analyzed and compared with a female cohort matched for age and disease characteristics. Results: The median age at the time of renal biopsy was 27 years (range, 8–79 years). The main forms of presentation were nephrotic syndrome in 26 of 50 patients (52%), and class IV LN in 34 of 50 (68%). After treatment, 21 patients (45.6%) achieved complete renal remission. During follow-up, 12 patients required renal replacement therapy, and 3 patients died of infectious causes. When patients who required renal replacement therapy were compared with those who did not require it, several parameters showed significant differences (P < 0.05) at the time of renal biopsy: estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml/min, hypertension, hypoalbuminemia, and concomitant visceral involvement (neurologic, cardiovascular, and/or pulmonary). In the multivariate analysis, only estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml/min persisted as a risk factor for progression to end-stage renal disease. When compared with a cohort of female patients with LN, there were no significant differences in remission or renal survival. Discussion: LN in males usually presents as nephrotic syndrome, and type IV LN is the most frequent form. An estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml/min at the time of renal biopsy is associated with poor renal outcomes. There were no differences in remission or progression of LN in males when compared with a cohort of female patients with LN.

Allergies are an increasing global public health concern, especially for children and people living in urban environments. Allergies impair the quality of life of those who suffer from them, and for this reason, alternatives for the treatment of allergic diseases or reduction in their symptoms are being sought. The main objective of this study was to compile the studies carried out on probiotics as a possible therapy for allergies. The most studied allergies on which probiotics have been shown to have a beneficial effect are rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. Most studies have studied the administration of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium spp. in children and have shown beneficial effects, such as a reduction in hyperreactivity and inflammation caused by allergens and a decrease in cytokine release, among other beneficial effects. In the case of children, no clear beneficial effects were found in several studies, and the potential risk from the use of some opportunistic bacteria, such as probiotics, seems controversial. In the studies that reported beneficial results, these effects were found to make allergy symptoms less aggressive, thus reducing morbidity in allergy sufferers. The different effects of the same probiotic bacteria on different patients seem to reinforce the idea that the efficacy of probiotics is dependent on the microbial species or strain, its derived metabolites and byproducts, and the gut microbiota eubiosis of the patient. This study is relevant in the context of allergic diseases, as it provides a broader understanding of new alternatives for the treatment of allergies, both in children, who are the main sufferers, and adults, showing that probiotics, in some cases, reduce the symptoms and severity of such diseases.

One of the cardinal features of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is its association with a profound immunosuppression. NK cell function is markedly impaired in CLL patients, who show a significant dysregulation of the expression of activating and inhibitory receptors. Here, we analyzed the role of the novel inhibitory receptor Ig-like transcript 2 (ILT2, also termed LIR-1, LILRB1) in the regulation of NK cells in CLL. Our results show that ILT2 expression was significantly decreased on leukemic cells and increased on NK cells of CLL patients, particularly in those with advanced disease and with bad prognostic features, such as those carrying chromosome del(11q). The immunomodulatory drug lenalidomide may regulate the expression of ILT2 and its ligands in CLL since it significantly increased the expression of ILT2 and partially reestablished the expression of its ligands on leukemic cells. Furthermore, lenalidomide significantly increased the activation and proliferation of NK cells, which was strongly enhanced by ILT2 blockade. Combining ILT2 blockade and lenalidomide activated NK cell cytotoxicity resulting in increased elimination of leukemic cells from CLL patients. Overall, we describe herein the role of an inhibitory receptor involved in the suppression of NK cell activity in CLL, which is restored by ILT2 blockade in combination with lenalidomide, suggesting that it may be an interesting therapeutic strategy to be explored in this disease.

La amiloidosis renal es una de las complicaciones más graves de la fiebre mediterránea familiar (FMF). La colchicina ha reducido la incidencia de esta complicación, que ahora solo aparece en pacientes no tratados, tratados de manera insuficiente o resistentes al fármaco. No obstante, la colchicina se ha mostrado poco eficaz en pacientes que inician el tratamiento cuando la amiloidosis ya está presente. En este trabajo presentamos el caso de un enfermo con FMF y amiloidosis renal secundaria diagnosticada mediante biopsia renal que desarrolló un síndrome nefrótico completo a pesar del tratamiento con colchicina. Por la mala evolución del cuadro se decidió iniciar tratamiento con anakinra (un inhibidor de la interleucina 1β). En los meses posteriores a la instauración del fármaco el enfermo presentó una mejoría progresiva del síndrome nefrótico, hasta alcanzar la remisión completa. La función renal permaneció estable. Los inhibidores de la interleucina 1β pueden ser un tratamiento efectivo de la FMF en pacientes con amiloidosis renal secundaria.

Renal amyloidosis is one of the most severe complications of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). Colchicine has reduced the incidence of this complication, which now only appears in untreated, under-treated and resistant patients, but it is usually ineffective in patients with advanced amyloidosis. Here we report a patient with FMF and biopsy-proven amyloidosis who presented with nephrotic syndrome despite colchicine treatment. Anakinra (an interleukin-1β inhibitor) was started and a dramatic complete remission of nephrotic syndrome was observed in the following months. Anakinra can be an effective treatment for FMF patients with severe secondary amyloidosis.

Background: The shortage of organs is a major hurdle in kidney transplantation, and one solution to the problem is to extend the age of the donor. However, organs from older donors are often discarded due to the macroscopic appearance of the parenchyma or major vessels. On the other hand, a large number of elderly patients are potential candidates for kidney transplantation, while many kidneys from elderly deceased donors are discarded due to a lack of age-matched recipients. In addition, a large number are often discarded due to the lack of compatible recipients among elderly patients undergoing chronic dialysis. A possible solution to avoid this wastage of kidneys potentially suitable for transplantation could be the performance of preemptive kidney transplantation (PKT) in carefully selected elderly patients. PKT improves graft and patient survival compared to other renal replacement therapy options. There is no information about PKT in elderly patients receiving kidneys from elderly deceased donors. Methods: From 2007 to 2012, we performed a prospective observational study comparing 26 elderly patients receiving PKT with a control group of 26 elderly patients receiving a first transplant after prior dialysis. Results: Mean age of recipients was 74.3 ± 2.9 years and mean age of donors was 73.8 ± 4.1 years. Induction immunosuppression was similar in both groups. Death-censored graft survival was 96% in the PKT group and 68% in the control group (p = 0.02), at 5 years after transplantation. Immediate and delayed graft function occurred in 92% and 3.8%, respectively, of patients in the PKT group and 53% and 34.6% of patients in the control group (p = 0.005). Acute rejection was significantly more frequent in PKT patients (23.1% vs 3.8%, p = 0.043). At the end of follow-up time 35.5 ± 20.1 months, the glomerular filtration rate was similar in both groups (42.2 ± 11.7 vs 41.7 ± 11.2 ml/min, p-value = 0.72). Patient survival was similar in the two groups. Conclusions: Elderly patients with end stage of renal disease non-dialysis may benefit from PKT elderly deceased donors whose kidneys were to be discarded for there are not patients in the waiting list.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is associated with a profound dysregulation of the immune system. Loss of T cell function is frequently caused in cancer by sustained signaling of inhibitory receptors. Here, we analyzed the role of the novel inhibitory receptor Ig-like transcript 2 (ILT2) in the pathogenesis of CLL. We observed that ILT2 expression was markedly reduced on leukemic cells, whereas it was increased on CD8 and CD4 T cells from CLL patients, particularly in those patients harboring chromosome 11q deletion, which includes the ATM gene. A deep dysregulation of ILT2 ligands expression in leukemia cells was also observed. ILT2 impaired the activation and proliferation of CD4 and CD8 T cells in CLL patients, but it had no effect in leukemic cells. ILT2 downregulated the production of IL-2 by CD4 T cells of CLL patients and induced the expression of cytokines that promote the survival of leukemic cells, such as IFN-γ, by T cells. Importantly, ILT2 blockade restored the activation, proliferation and cytokine production of T cells. In conclusion, we describe a novel immune inhibitory pathway that is upregulated in CLL and delineate a new potential target to be explored in this disease.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most prevalent inherited heart disease. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is the preferred genetic test, but the diagnostic value of screening for minor and candidate genes, and the role of copy number variants (CNVs) deserves further evaluation.Three hundred and eighty-seven consecutive unrelated patients with HCM were screened for genetic variants in the 5 most frequent genes (MYBPC3, MYH7, TNNT2, TNNI3 and TPM1) using Sanger sequencing (N = 84) or NGS (N = 303). In the NGS cohort we analyzed 20 additional minor or candidate genes, and applied a proprietary bioinformatics algorithm for detecting CNVs. Additionally, the rate and classification of TTN variants in HCM were compared with 427 patients without structural heart disease.The percentage of patients with pathogenic/likely pathogenic (P/LP) variants in the main genes was 33.3%, without significant differences between the Sanger sequencing and NGS cohorts. BackgroundWhether the remote myocardium of reperfused ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients plays a part in adverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling remains unclear. We aimed to use automated extracellular volume fraction (ECV) mapping to investigate whether changes in the ECV of the remote (ECVRemote) and infarcted myocardium (ECVInfarct) impacted LV remodeling. Methods and ResultsForty‐eight of 50 prospectively recruited reperfused STEMI patients completed a cardiovascular magnetic resonance at 4±2 days and 40 had a follow‐up scan at 5±2 months. Twenty healthy volunteers served as controls. Mean segmental values for native T1, T2, and ECV were obtained. Adverse LV remodeling was defined as ≥20% increase in LV end‐diastolic volume. ECVRemote was higher on the acute scan when compared to control (27.9±2.1% vs 26.4±2.1%; P=0.01). Eight patients developed adverse LV remodeling and had higher ECVRemote acutely (29.5±1.4% vs 27.4±2.0%; P=0.01) and remained higher at follow‐up (28.6±1.5% vs 26.6±2.1%; P=0.02) compared to those without. Patients with a higher ECVRemote and a lower myocardial salvage index (MSI) acutely were significantly associated with adverse LV remodeling, independent of T1Remote, T1Core and microvascular obstruction, whereas a higher ECVInfarct was significantly associated with worse wall motion recovery. ConclusionsECVRemote was increased acutely in reperfused STEMI patients. Those with adverse LV remodeling had higher ECVRemote acutely, and this remained higher at follow‐up than those without adverse LV remodeling. A higher ECVRemote and a lower MSI acutely were significantly associated with adverse LV remodeling whereas segments with higher ECVInfarct were less likely to recover wall motion.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a very rare Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. We report the case of a 41-year-old man who presented with fever and respiratory symptoms. Computed tomography showed multiple nodules in both lung fields. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of the bronchoalveolar lavage was positive for EBV and biopsy of lung node yielded a diagnosis of LYG, grade III. Shortly after initiation of treatment with chemotherapy, neurologic deterioration appeared. Radiologic findings revealed hydrocephalus and PCR analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was positive for EBV. Treatment with intravenous rituximab led to rapid reduction of EBV load in CSF, along with radiological and clinical improvement. After completion of treatment with immunochemotherapy, an autologous stem cell transplantation was performed. Patient stays in remission one year after diagnosis.

The immune system may mediate anti-tumor responses in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) which may affect disease progression and survival. In this study, we analyzed the immune characteristics of 99 consecutive previously diagnosed CLL patients and 50 healthy controls. The distribution of lymphocyte subsets at diagnosis was retrospectively analyzed. Compared with controls, leukemia patients showed an expansion of NK and CD8 T cells at diagnosis. The relative number of CD8 T cells at diagnosis was associated with time to treatment, suggesting that CD8 T cells may modify disease progression. The distribution of lymphocyte subsets was analyzed again when patients were enrolled in this study. The median time since these patients were diagnosed was 277 weeks. Compared with diagnosis, the absolute number of CD8 T cells significantly decreased in these patients, reaching similar values to healthy controls; however NK cells kept significantly elevated overtime. Nevertheless, NK cells showed an impaired expression of NKG2D receptor and a defective cytotoxic activity. This down-regulation of NKG2D expression was further enhanced in patients with advanced and progressive disease. Additionally, membrane NKG2D levels significantly decreased on CD8 T cells, but a significant increase of NKG2D+CD4+ T cells was observed in CLL patients. The cytotoxic activity of NK cells was diminished in CLL patients; however the treatments with IL-2, IL-15, IL-21 and lenalidomide were able to restore their activity. The effect of IL-2 and IL-15 was associated with the increase of NKG2D expression on immune cells, but the effect of IL-21 and lenalidomide was not due to NKG2D up-regulation. The expansion of NK cells and the reversibility of NK cell defects provide new opportunities for the immunotherapeutic intervention in CLL.

IgA anti-beta-2-glycoprotein I (aB2GPI) antibodies have been related to vascular pathology in the general population and mainly in hemodialyzed patients (prevalence 33%) in whom an elevated incidence of thrombosis and mortality is found. In this paper we have studied the presence of IgA aB2GPI antibodies at pretransplant and their evolution after transplantation with a cross-sectional-based follow-up study of a cohort of 288 endstage renal disease (ESRD) patients treated with kidney transplantation. Pretransplant IgA aB2GPI levels were elevated 31.7±4.2 U/mL without differences in age or type of dialysis. Patients with different etiologies of ESRD showed higher levels of IgA aB2GPI than blood donors, except the groups of non-IgA glomerular disease and systemic erythematosus lupus, whose nonsignificant differences were observed. Aortic to right ventricular fistula formation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a rare complication. We describe the first case of an aorto-RV fistula after TAVR, conservatively managed, in a patient with concomitant aortic stenosis and wild-type transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis. Given that the underlying pathology may have implications, transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis screening in patients undergoing TAVR is warranted.

Encouraging older and newer mobility alternatives to standard privately owned cars, such as cycling and autonomous vehicles, is necessary to reduce pollution, enhance safety, increase transportation efficiency, and create a more sustainable urban environment. Implementing mobility plans that identify the use of different transport modes in their confidence intervals can lead to the development of smarter and more efficient cities, where all citizens can benefit from safe and environmentally friendly streets. This research aims to provide insights into designing urban streets that seamlessly integrate autonomous vehicles and cyclists, promoting sustainable mobility while ensuring urban transport efficiency. With this aim, the research identifies and prioritizes the factors that are relevant to street design as well as the appropriate strategies to address them. Our methodology combines Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) with Game theory to identify and realize the most convenient conditions for this integration. Initially, the basic factors were identified using the value-interval fuzzy Delphi method. Following this, the factors were weighted with the interval-fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP), and the cause-and-effect variables were evaluated using the interval-fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory ANP (DANP). Finally, Game theory was employed to determine the optimal model for addressing these challenges. The results indicate that safety emerged as the most significant factor and two optimal strategies were identified; the integration of green infrastructure and smart technology.

Abstract Objective This study investigated the effectiveness and tolerability of brivaracetam (BRV) monotherapy in a large series of patients with epilepsy. Method This was a multicenter, retrospective, observational, non‐interventional study in 24 hospitals across Spain. Patients aged ≥18 years who started on BRV monotherapy, either as first‐line or following conversion, at least 1 year before database closure were included. Patients were evaluated at baseline and at 3, 6 and 12 months after initiation of BRV monotherapy, in accordance with usual clinical practice at these centers. Data were collected retrospectively from patients' individual charts by participating physicians. The primary effectiveness and safety endpoints were the percentage of seizure‐free patients 1 year after initiation of BRV monotherapy and the proportion of patients reporting adverse events (AEs) over the complete follow‐up period. Retention rates and subpopulation analysis (levetiracetam switchers, elderly and different etiologies) were also investigated. Results A total of 276 patients were included (48 with BRV as first‐line monotherapy and 228 who converted to BRV monotherapy). The overall retention rate in monotherapy at 12 months was 89.9% (87.5% for first‐line monotherapy group; 90.4% for conversion‐to‐monotherapy group). Seizure‐freedom rates at 12 months were 77.8% (75% for first‐line monotherapy group; 78.4% for conversion‐to‐monotherapy group). AEs occurred in 39.5% of patients at 12 months (35.4% for first‐line monotherapy group; 40.4% for conversion‐to‐monotherapy group). Most AEs were mild‐to‐moderate. The most frequent AEs were irritability (12.3%) and dizziness (10.1%). The most frequent AEs leading to BRV withdrawal were dizziness (1.8%) and memory problems (1.4%). Similar outcomes in terms of effectiveness and tolerability of BRV monotherapy were observed in patients switching from levetiracetam, those with different epilepsy etiologies, and elderly patients. Significance BRV was effective and well tolerated both as first‐line monotherapy and following conversion to monotherapy in a real‐world setting of patients with epilepsy. Plain Language Summary The goal of the medical treatment of epilepsy is to ensure best possible patient quality of life, by maximizing seizure control and minimizing medication toxicity. Brivaracetam (BRV) is a new‐generation epilepsy treatment that is well tolerated by patients. In our study, monotherapy with BRV reduced seizures in patients who had not received other treatments and in patients who switched from a previous treatment to BRV monotherapy. BRV was well tolerated and also effective in sensitive patients (i.e., the elderly and those who had epilepsy caused by a brain tumor or a brain injury).

This article makes a historical journey from the appearance of the post-mortem photographic portrait in the nineteenth century to the present day, focusing on women's importance in its birth, development, and survival. Women have always maintained a close relationship with death, both for the symbolic-biological issues, as well as those of practical origin derived from the first: mourn, fix, watch over, and remember them. All this has influenced the feminization of death, especially since the 19th century, which is evident in the post-mortem photographic portrait. In this context, these portraits restore identity, reinforce family ties, and approach the deceased when necessary for proper mourning. The deceased’s photographic image alone or in company is a visual representation that has undergone slight variations over time and contains different functions, in which the representation is intertwined with its material condition and its destiny. In addition, this type of image is a document that gives clues about the different eras with their respective mentalities and unifies them around the loss and its management. In the end, these photographs raise many questions about the lack and its consequences both in the past and present, which is why interdisciplinarity is needed to address them in their complexity.

IntroductionThe adverse health effects of sugar-sweetened beverage intake are well-established, but the implications of overall added sugar intake remain unclear. We investigated the associations between intake of added sugar and various sugar-sweetened foods and beverages and risk of 7 cardiovascular diseases in 69,705 participants aged 45–83 years (47.2% female) from the Swedish Mammography cohort and Cohort of Swedish men.MethodsQuestionnaire-based diet and lifestyle assessments were administered in 1997 and 2009. National registers were used for ascertainment of ischemic stroke (n = 6,912), hemorrhagic stroke (n = 1,664), myocardial infarction (n = 6,635), heart failure (n = 10,090), aortic stenosis (n = 1,872), atrial fibrillation (n = 13,167), and abdominal aortic aneurysm (n = 1,575) until December 31st, 2019. The associations were studied using Cox regression with time-updated exposure and covariate data.ResultsAdded sugar intake was positively associated with ischemic stroke and abdominal aortic aneurysm, although the highest risks of most outcomes were found in the lowest intake category. Positive linear associations were found between toppings intake and abdominal aortic aneurysm, and between sweetened beverage intake and ischemic stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and abdominal aortic aneurysm. Negative linear associations were found between treats intake (pastries, ice cream, chocolate, and sweets) and all outcomes, and between toppings intake (table sugar, honey, jams, and marmalades) and heart failure and aortic stenosis.DiscussionThe findings suggest that the associations between added sugar intake and cardiovascular diseases vary by disease and source of added sugar. The findings emphasize the adverse health effects of sweetened beverage consumption and indicate higher cardiovascular diseases risks with lower treats intake, which warrants further investigation.
