- Abstract
For short-range applications, the intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) technique is preferred because of its low cost, small size, and simplicity. However, when the data rate rises to 100 Gbps or more, signal distortion brought on by low-cost components and fiber dispersion leads to system performance limitations. In this study, we show that an artificial neural network (ANN) based equalizer is a more efficient way to enhance the transmission performance of high-speed IM/DD systems than traditional methods. Furthermore, a 50 Gbaud PAM4 communication system's overall performance can be improved by an ANN-based equalizer with low complexity. When compared to the conventional feed-forward equalizer (FFE), the simulation results for the 50 Gbaud system using the ANN equalizer generally demonstrate better performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
