Several analyses are conducted to explain the links joining the social remembering and the knowledge management concepts to the study of Organizational Memory Studies (OMS). The results reveal that social remembering leads to the formation of strong connections between the research programmes and memory in the studies of the organizational culture.

Words become associated following repeated co-occurrence episodes. This process might be further determined by the semantic characteristics of the words. The present study focused on how semantic and episodic factors interact in incidental formation of word associations. First, we found that human participants associate semantically related words more easily than unrelated words; this advantage increased linearly with repeated co-occurrence. Second, we developed a computational model, SEMANT, suggesting a possible mechanism for this semantic-episodic interaction. In SEMANT, episodic associations are implemented through lateral connections between nodes in a pre-existent self-organized map of word semantics. These connections are strengthened at each instance of concomitant activation, proportionally with the amount of the overlapping activity waves of activated nodes. In computer simulations SEMANT replicated the dynamics of associative learning in humans and led to testable predictions concerning normal associative learning as well as impaired learning in a diffuse semantic system like that characteristic of schizophrenia. Responses to probe targets that have been distractors in a prime display are slower than responses to new targets, a finding called negative priming (NP). The selective attention model, which attributes NP to lingering inhibition of the prime distractor, predicts that NP should occur only when the prime display has disappeared before the probe display is processed. The present study tested this prediction both in easy--and in diffficult--selection tasks. In Experiments 1, 2, and 3A, target selection was easy, and NP was observed only after prime display offset, regardless of whether offset was manipulated between or within participants. In Experiment 3B, target selection was difficult, and NP was found with and without prime display offset. Experiment 4 replicated the finding of NP without prime display offset in a difficult-selection task. A modified version of the selective attention model can explain the results of the present study. However, we also discuss the results in light of episodic retrieval theory and temporal discrimination theory.

In the present study, the trajectory of prospective memory across the lifespan was investigated in a total of 200 participants from five age groups (4- to 6-year-old children, 13- to 14-year-old adolescents, 19- to 26-year-old adults, 55- to 65-year-old adults, and 65- to 75-year-old adults). In an event-based prospective memory task the prospective and the retrospective components were assessed separately. For the prospective component, the results showed better performance for adolescents and young adults than for children and 65- to 75-year-old adults. In addition, participants belonging to the latter group were more likely to forget the retrospective component after having noticed the prospective memory targets. Overall, these results indicate that across the lifespan prospective memory performance follows a similar inverted u-shape function as is well known for retrospective episodic memory.

Six experiments examined the proposal that an item of long-term knowledge can be simultaneously inhibited and activated. In 2 directed forgetting experiments items to-be-forgotten were found to be inhibited in list-cued recall but activated in lexical decision tasks. In 3 retrieval practice experiments, unpracticed items from practiced categories were found to be inhibited in category-cued recall but were primed in lexical decision. If, however, the primes and targets in lexical decision were taken directly from the study list, inhibition was observed. Finally, it was found that when items highly associated with a study list were processed in between study and test, no inhibition in recall was present. These, and a broad range of other findings, can be explained by the concept of 'episodic inhibition,' which proposes that episodic memories retain copies of semantic knowledge structures that preserve patterns of activation/inhibition originally generated in those structures during encoding. This research was an investigation of children's performance on a task that requires memory binding. In Experiments 1 and 2, 4-year-olds, 6-year-olds, and adults viewed complex pictures and were tested on memory for isolated parts in the pictures and on the part combinations (combination condition). The results suggested improvement in memory for the combinations between the ages of 4 and 6 years but not in memory for the isolated parts. In Experiments 2 and 3, the authors also examined the developmental relationship between performance in the combination condition and free recall of a naturalistic event, finding preliminary evidence that performance on a memory task that requires binding is positively related to performance in episodic memory. Two experiments investigated adult age differences in episodic and semantic long-term memory tasks, as a test of the hypothesis of specific age-related decline in context memory. Older adults were slower and exhibited lower episodic accuracy than younger adults. Fits of the diffusion model (R. Ratcliff, 1978) revealed age-related increases in nondecisional reaction time for both episodic and semantic retrieval. In Experiment 2, an age difference in boundary separation also indicated an age-related increase in conservative criterion setting. For episodic old-new recognition (Experiment 1) and source memory (Experiment 2), there was an age-related decrease in the quality of decision-driving information (drift rate). As predicted by the context-memory deficit hypothesis, there was no corresponding age-related decline in semantic drift rate. Keywords: aging, reaction time, context memory, recognition test

The presentation of a subset of learned items as retrieval cues can have detrimental effects on recall of the remaining items. For 2 types of encoding conditions, the authors examined in 3 experiments whether such part-list cuing is a transient or a lasting phenomenon. Across the experiments, the detrimental effect of part-list cues was consistently found to be transient with a high degree of interitem associations and lasting with a low degree. These results indicate that the persistence of part-list cuing depends on encoding, thus challenging both strategy disruption and retrieval inhibition as general accounts of part-list cuing. A 2-mechanism account is provided according to which the 2 mechanisms mediate the effect in different encoding conditions. An introduction of a modification of the iterated prisoners' dilemma is presented by an experiment where participants interacted with five fictitious interaction partners within one game, either in a random order or against each of the interaction partners in succession.

An examination was performed on whether memory control beliefs and self-efficacy could be enhanced as well as improves performance by encouraging strategy use on an episodic memory task. Results revealed that encouraging strategy use resulted in higher self-efficacy for older adults, while there were no effects for young and middle-aged adults.

The important aspects of semantics theories and episodic memory using agnostic approach are analyzed.
