Abstract

In this work dependence between structure, surface and reactivity of SiO2 is investigated. Different samples are prepared with and without the presence of calcium cations and are characterized by different techniques. The FTIR frequency shifting of the bridging oxygen stretching vibration Si–O–Si and the binding energy shiftingof the Si2p and O1s photoelectron peaks have been observed and discussed. Results show the effect of presence of calcium on the structural change, surface and reactivity of SiO2 aggregate. After reaction, a structural and SiO2 surface changes occur, as the FTIR spectra illustrate depending on the presence of the calcium cations.

Abstract

Elastic properties of silica depend on the temperature. In this work are reported the heat treatment effect on the structural behavior of natural SiO2. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are used to characterize natural SiO2 before and after heat treatment samples. Williamson–Hall plots and Scherer’s formula are applied to identify the crystallite sizes. The experimental results reveal the detailed modification while varying the temperature. Changes are revealed by FTIR spectra assigned to an amelioration in the structural order with increasing temperature is in good agreement with XRD and TEM analysis. Furthermore, the changes of crystallite sizes, microstructure, and the lattice parameters calculated from XRD data are strongly influenced by the heat treatment. Careful TEM images showed the nanograined for materials, which could be correlated to that estimated from Scherer’s formula and Williamson–Hall plots. © 2019, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Abstract

Powders and thin films of ferroelectric Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 (BLT) have been prepared from a sol-gel precursor heated at various temperatures, up to 600°C. The BLT precursor and the BLT powders have been characterized by thermal analyses, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Then, the precursor has been used to deposit thin films of ferroelectric BLT on specific silicon substrates, using a specific spin coating process. The thin films have been characterized by XRD, SEM and ellipsometry. Electrical polarization analyses have been finally performed on these films, and performing remnant polarization has been obtained.

22. Synthesis, X-ray crystal structure and dielectric measurements of a tetragonal tungsten bronze: Pb0.75K1.80Li1.70Nb5O15

Abstract

Typical crystals Pb0.75K1.80Li1.70Nb5O15, belonging to tetragonal tungsten bronze materials, were grown by the slow cooling technique. The crystals were characterized at room temperature by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM). The structure, solved combining information obtained by HRTEM images and Direct Methods application to single crystal XRD data, was refined by full-matrix least-squares technique in the P4bm space group to a final R = 0.031. The lattice constants are a = 12.540(2), c = 4.037(1) Angstrom, V = 634.8(2) Angstrom(3), at 293 K. There are two formulas per unit cell, for a calculated density of 4.928 Mg/m(3). Dielectric measurements, carried out along the [001] direction in the frequency 10(3) Hz, showed the existence of the paraelectric-ferroelectric transition at 628 K and of a further maximum of epsilon(r)(') (with a very weak intensity) at T-1 = 150 K.

Abstract

Lead-free ferroelectric materials derived from BaTiO3, SrTiO3 and CaZrO3 were synthetized by the solid state reaction. Effects of ionic substitutions in A cationic sites between Ba, Ca and Sr and in B cationic sites between Ti and Zr on structural and dielectric properties were investigated. Structure and morphology of all the ceramics were determined by X-ray diffraction and SEM. Dielectric measurements were investigated in the temperature range from 80 K to 800 K and in frequency from 100 Hz to 1.8 GHz. Dielectric permittivity shows a good stability over all the frequency range for BTO, BCT, BZT, SCT and CZT ceramics. Barium substitution by Ca and Zr decreases the dielectric permittivity and moreover reduces the loss tangent over 1MHz by a factor of 10 compared to BTO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A new family of rare-earth ferroelectric Tetragonal Tungsten Bronze (TTB) - type compounds with general formula Pb2(1- x) K1+ xGdxNb5O15 was elaborated by solid state reaction. Structural and dielectric properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction and dielectric measurements. The symmetry of the ferroelectric phase strongly depends of the lead concentration. The ferroelectric phase of the compounds with high lead concentration (x < 0.35) was found to be described by the symmetry group Cm2m whereas the compounds with low lead concentration (x > 0.35) have the symmetry space group Pba2. Abstract

Substitution of Pb with Gd in the Pb 2 KNb 5 O 15 phases leads to a new composition of solid solution with chemical composition Pb 2(1 - x ) Gd x K 1 + x Nb 5 O 15 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) which crystallizes with TTB type structure. Powders are pressed and heated into ceramics and their compaction is about 90%. Thermal evolution of the real part of the dielectric permittivity presents different behavior according to the composition. The dielectric permittivity of compounds with Gd composition above x = 0.30 shows two anomalies. The first one appears at T C and is associated to the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition. The origin of the last one at which occurs at T 1 is up to now unknown. Domain structure should exhibit strong changes both with temperature and composition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
