- Abstract
This study aims to test the relationship between globalization, foreign direct investment and income inequality in the sample of Türkiye for the period 1980-2022. In this context, the ARDL bounds test approach developed by Pesaran et al. (2001) was used in the study to conclude that the increase in globalization and foreign direct investment (FDI) reduces income inequality. In addition, it was determined that the increase in the economic growth rate, which is the control variable of the model, has a reducing effect on income inequality. It was observed that the findings obtained in the study support the neo-liberal view and modernization theory in the relevant literature. In this direction, it is thought that reducing the development gap between regions may be effective in reducing income inequality in Türkiye. For the purpose of the study, it is suggested to increase educational opportunities for regions with low economic development levels in Türkiye, to expand investment incentives and to support these regions with alternative tourism activities. - Abstract
One of the main purposes of the state is to ensure economic growth, and taxes are used as an effective fiscal policy tool to achieve this goal. The effect of tax revenues on economic growth has been an important research topic in the literature for a long time. In this study, the effect of indirect and direct tax revenues on economic growth in the Turkish economy were analysed by applying ARDL bounds test approach and TodaYamamoto causality test. The analyses were conducted with quarterly data for the period 2006:01-2023:02. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that indirect taxes increased economic growth in the long run, while direct taxes decreased it. In the short run, the effect of indirect taxes on economic growth is found to be insignificant, while the effect of direct taxes is found to be positive. According to the results of TodaYamamoto causality test, a bidirectional causality relationship was found between indirect taxes and economic growth and between direct taxes and economic growth. - Abstract
The objective of this paper is to examine whether the health expenditures and energy consumption affect the economic growth for Asia Pacific and Scandinavian countries for the period between 2000-2021 using panel data analysis. Most of the previous studies have focused on the relationship between health expenditures and economic growth and energy consumption and economic growth. While the recent health concerns caused by pandemics emphasize the importance of increasing resources allocated to health, the increase in energy capacity and its impact on the environment with the increase in the world population and thus production are among the issues that need to be investigated. Healthy people will be more productive and contribute more to the growth of the economy. In this context, the analysis conducted in this study shows that health expenditures affect economic growth in both Asia Pacific and Scandinavian countries. In the same period, energy consumption does not affect economic growth for both regions. In this respect, the study shows that investments in health services support economic growth. The findings obtained will help to develop economic policies in theory and practice in line with sustainable growth targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between export diversification, economic growth and ecological footprint of D-8 (Turkiye, Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria and Bangladesh) countries for the period 1995-2022 using panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) analysis method. In addition, causality test with Emirmahmutoğlu and Köse (2011) panel causality test is also applied. According to the panel ARDL results, export diversification decreases the ecological footprint in both the short and long run, while economic growth increases it in the short run. According to the results of the panel Fisher Test Statistic in the Emirmahmutoğlu and Köse causality test, there is a bidirectional causality between export diversification (EXPD), economic growth (GDP) and ecological footprint (EF). Looking at the individual country results for EXPD and EF, bidirectional causality was found in Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Malaysia, unidirectional causality from EXPD to EF in Nigeria and unidirectional causality from EF to EXPD in Turkiye. When individual country results for GDP and EF are analyzed, bidirectional causality is found in Iran, unidirectional causality from GDP to EF in Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and unidirectional causality from EF to GDP in Turkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh. Looking at the individual country results for GDP and EXPD, unidirectional causality from GDP to EXPD was found in Turkiye, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bangladesh and unidirectional causality from EXPD to GDP in Egypt. As a result, if export diversification is increased in the D-8 countries, environmental damage will be reduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between human development index, urbanization, economic growth and ecological footprint in MINT countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkiye) for the years 2003-2022. First of all, the cointegration relationship between human development index, urbanization, economic growth and ecological footprint was examined with Gengenbach, Urbain and Westerlund (2016) panel cointegration. As a result of the cointegration analysis, it was concluded that the variables were cointegrated. The long-term relationship was estimated by the DOLSMG method. According to the DOLSMG estimator, it was determined that a 1% increase in the human development index in MINT countries reduced the ecological footprint by 1.89%, a 1% increase in urbanization increased the ecological footprint by 0.22%, and a 1% increase in economic growth increased the ecological footprint insignificantly. Secondly, the relationship between human development index, urbanization, economic growth and ecological footprint was examined with Dumitrescu and Hurlin (2012) panel causality analysis. According to the findings, there is a bidirectional causality relationship between ecological footprint and urbanization in MINT countries. Additionally, the findings of the study show that there is a unidirectional causality relationship from ecological footprint to human development index and a unidirectional causality relationship from economic growth to ecological footprint. OIL consumption , *ENERGY consumption , *ECONOMIC expansion , *COINTEGRATION ,GROUP of Seven countries - Abstract
The G7 countries, which represent a significant portion of global energy consumption and have a major impact on the World economy, consider energy to be of utmost importance. These advanced economies have a significant influence on global oil dynamics. Oil will continue to be a significant component of the global energy system, with an anticipated consumption of 70-80 million barrels per day by 2035. This study aims to investigate the causal relationship between oil consumption and economic growth in G7 countries from 1990 to 2022 using panel data analysis methods. The analysis employed Gengenbach et al.'s (2016) cointegration test and Emirmahmutoğlu and Kose's (2011) causality methods. The results indicate a cointegration relationship and a positive effect of oil consumption on economic growth. However, no causality relationship was detected between the variables, which supports the neutrality hypothesis in the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
With the increase in climate change, environmental pollution and emissions in the world, a fight with fossil fuels has been entered. Many countries have begun to take measures to control CO2 emissions, enact laws and amend existing laws. Traditional logistics, which ignores the deterioration of ecological balance, adopts only product and consumption-oriented logistics. Issues such as waste management, the use of renewable energy sources and the circular economy are neglected. While traditional logistics is a purely cost-oriented and monetary-oriented type of transportation, green logistics concept has been revealed as an alternative to this situation. Especially in the emergence of green logistics, the increase in sensitivity and concerns about the environment can be shown as a reason. With the development of the logistics sector, the trend has started to increase in issues such as ecological balance, emission emission emission rates, savings understanding and renewable energy sources. In this context, many companies operating in the logistics sector use efficient transportation methods compatible with the environment, development of distribution and packaging systems, and, he decided that many services such as waste management and emission control should be within the framework of a nature-friendly understanding. These eco-friendly practices have accelerated the transition from traditional logistics to green logistics understanding, enabling companies to update their mission and vision policies. Because the issue to be considered here is the continuous reduction of the supply of natural resources globally and the increase in the degree of pollution. Green logistics activities, which also contribute to the circular economy, are the most important factors that enable the development of a sustainable environment. With renewable energy policies becoming an important issue in the field of logistics, environmentally friendly practices have emerged. In particular, companies within the scope of green logistics in order to achieve maximum profit at minimum cost; green supply, green production, green packaging, green transportation, green storage and on the contrary, logistics have begun to focus on issues such as. Because companies need to discover new markets and improve their brand image in order to have a good position in international markets. Carrying out both production and logistics activities without leaving waste in nature will ensure the efficient use of company resources and increase the company's preferability in international markets. Today, with the increase of environmental destruction, countries have started to bring a green-oriented understanding of their strategic plans and policies. Thanks to the sustainability of the energy resources used, having a lower carbon footprint is important for future generations. In Turkey, it can be said that this understanding has just begun to be applied and that it should produce a policy in a more conscious way. With the introduction of alternative energy sources in Turkey, it is also ensured that the foreign trade deficit of the energy-dependent country is reduced. The country's seasonal availability has expanded its range of uses, making it easier to discover, develop, promote and use renewable energy sources. In addition, the sensitivity of consumers in this regard has started to increase. In this study, renewable energy sources and green logistics relationship were examined in Turkey and Johansen cointegration test and Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis were performed for the period 1990-2019. Johansen cointegration analysis results show a long-term cointegration relationship between variables. In the Toda-Yamamoto causality test applied, a one-way causality relationship has been determined from gross domestic product to the amount of CO2 emissions from the logistics sector. This causality relationship states that economic growth is a variable that affects the amount of carbon emissions. This study also reveals that renewable energy sources should be used in a wider area. Analyzing how it is applied to other sectors, the stages to be followed and its contribution to the economies of the country can be an inspiration for future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Economic growth is one of the most important and discussed topics of economics in the last fifty years. An increase in quantity of output produced in a given time is called economic growth. In order to mention about economic development or growth, there must be continuous increase in production. Otherwise, there would be economic stagnation or recession in the country. In the study, the sources of economic growth are analyzed with panel data of some selected OECD countries for the years 1990-2021 and 1996-2020. 28 OECD countries, which have all dataset in the model, wearere specified as sample in the study. In this sense per capita income (dependent variable), population, technological development (R&D expenses), education (schooling rate), health (infant mortality rate), inflation, foreign direct investment and trade openness are used as variables for the panel data analysis. It is concluded that while foreign direct investments, schooling rate, trade openness, population and R&D variables affect economic growth positively; infant mortality rate and inflation rate affect negatively. - Abstract
Military expenditures are not only an important factor in ensuring peace and security, but also have controversial effects on the economic growth of countries. The extent of military expenditures to ensure peace is another dimension of these discussions. This study analyzes the relationship between the global peace index, GDP, number of military personnel and military expenditures of 18 countries in the Global Peace Index (GPI) for the period 2008-2022 is analyzed using panel data analysis. The results show that there is a positive relationship between the global peace index, GDP, number of military personnel and military expenditures. It is thought that the result that peace has a decreasing effect on military expenditures should be evaluated not only by countries' own dynamics but also by taking into account factors such as geographical location, armaments of neighboring countries and developments in the world. INCOME inequality , *ECONOMIC expansion , *SUSTAINABLE development , *ECONOMIC policy , *POVERTY - Abstract
Income inequality and poverty are among the main problems of countries. Considering that economic growth is at the forefront of each country's main macroeconomic goals, determining how income inequality and poverty affect economic growth is a crucial issue in specifying the policies to be implemented. Therefore, economic growth, poverty, and income inequality are at the center of public discussions. The inclusion of the goals of "ending poverty" and "reducing inequalities" (which includes reducing income inequality) among the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals underscores the importance of this issue. In this context, this study aims to examine the relationship between income inequality, poverty, and economic growth in OECD countries using the 2004-2019 period using the Fixed-Effect Driscoll-Kraay estimator. The period was limited to 2004-2019 due to the data availability. Empirical findings show that income inequality and poverty harm economic growth. Policies aimed at increasing growth in OECD countries should also include policy components focused on reducing income inequality and poverty. In other words, strategies to reduce poverty and income inequality should be considered together with policies promoting economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the relationship between religiosity and economic growth as an indicator of modernization. It also examines the relationship between religiosity and various dimensions of development such as educational attainment, mortality rate, and urbanization. To this end, average country-level data from 6 different survey waves of the World Values Survey, spanning the period 1989-2022, and various data sources, including the World Christian Encyclopedia, Religion and State Project, Penn World Table, World Development Indicators are utilized. The analyses include a maximum of 108 countries. The ongoing secularization paradigm is experienced differently in each society, depending on the predominance of religious belief and societal characteristics, including the degree of cultural and social diversity. The Seemingly Unrelated Regression method is employed to address the potential problem of correlation between the error terms of the regressions utilizing different religiosity indicators. Estimates indicate that religiosity is negatively associated with economic growth, the presence of a state religion and religious pluralism, while it is positively associated with state regulation of the religious market. Education, which is one of the most fundamental indicators of development, is positively correlated with religiosity. Nevertheless, the most characteristic indicator of modernization and development, urbanization, is negatively related to religiosity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The source of economic growth is the supply-demand balance. Demand refers to consumption and supply refers to production. Producing quality products plays an important role on the production side of this balance. The country, which has a wide range of qualified products called sophisticated products, continues to grow with financial development. The concept of economic complexity refers to product diversity. This concept has taken its place in the literature by being expanded into commercial, technological, and research complexity indices as the content of the multidimensional complexity index. In this study, the relationship between multidimensional complexity indices and financial development indicators of E7 (Emerging) countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Turkey) is analyzed with Gengenbach, Urbain, and Westerlund Cointegration Test and Mean Group Estimator applied in case of cointegration. It has been determined that these variables are cointegrated, and this relationship between the commercial and technological complexity index and financial development is significant. As a result of the analysis with the mean group estimator, it was concluded that the technological complexity index has a greater impact on financial development than the commercial and research complexity indices.

This study examines the nexus between foreign direct investment (FDI), trade openness (TRO) and economic growth for selected 11 high-income and 22 middle- and low-income Asian countries within a model using a more recent panel dataset over the period 2000–2021. The cointegration test has been applied in this study, which shows that whether there is a long-term interrelationship between FDI and economic growth, which we focus on in particular, and then the covariance matrix estimators that are developed by Driscoll and Kraay are used. Our findings indicate that there is a positive relationship between FDI and TRO, and economic growth for high-income countries, whereas the relationship between FDI and economic growth is negative for middle- and low-income countries. This study provides insights on why governments and policy makers in developing countries should focus on prioritizing domestic investment and production strategies for sustainable economic growth rather than simply emphasizing the attractiveness of FDI and the indispensability of import-oriented trade liberalization.

This research aims to examine the effects of the development in the higher education and financial sector on economic growth in the case of North Cyprus. Findings of time series data show that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between real income and its elements such as labor, capital, higher education, and financial growth. Results show that both capital and labor have a statistically significant effect on economic growth. Additionally, development in the financial sector is a significant contributor to economic growth, however, higher education shows evidence of greater contribution to economic growth in North Cyprus. It draws attention that the higher education sector has a greater impact on economic development than the financial sector. In this context, government authorities should support both the financial and higher education sectors in order to accelerate their contribution to economic development. Policymakers needed to concentrate more on the higher education sector in Northern Cyprus.
