The article uses insights from the capability approach as a theoretical framework. It investigates the potential of higher education to provide fertile advantages regarding young adults’ participation in nonformal education and whether this potential is bounded by people’s individual characteristics and the wider social context in which they live. Applying descriptive statistics and multilevel modelling, we conducted a secondary data analysis of the Adult Education Survey for 29 European countries. The findings go beyond previous research by clearly demonstrating that the fertile advantages of higher education regarding participation in adult nonformal education are not absolute and straightforward. They are bounded not only by certain important individual characteristics (such as individuals’ social background and household income) but are also context-dependent. A survey tasks young adults who graduated from virtual charters managed by a large education management organization to assess the degree to which virtual schools prepared them for postsecondary and career success. The same survey questions were also administered to a nationally representative group of American adults ages 18-29. Overall, comparison of survey responses reveals that virtual charter graduates report statistically significant advantages when it comes to career readiness and mixed responses with regard to college readiness. This study aims to explore cultural engagement and learning among youth through Jingyun Dagu, traditional Chinese folk songs in Tianjin Municipality, seamlessly blending traditional cultural practices with modern learning techniques. The study delves into the intricate relationship between traditional Chinese folk songs, specifically Jingyun Dagu, and cultural engagement, learning, and teaching among the youth in Tianjin Municipality. Drawing on a comprehensive literature review, this research navigates the historical evolution of Jingyun Dagu, its role in preserving cultural heritage, and its integration into modern education. By employing a dual data collection approach involving document analysis and fieldwork techniques, this study engages key informants - legal inheritors of Jingyun Dagu - to unravel the nuances of this art form's journey. The findings highlight the transformative potential of cultural heritage, emphasizing its ability to bridge the past and present, engage learners, and foster cultural pride. The integration of Jingyun Dagu into curricula and workshops emerges to transmit history, values, and societal norms. This article presents an excerpt from the dissertation “Cordel Literature for Teaching the Decimal Numbering System”, which aimed to develop a didactic sequence with Cordel Literature for teaching the decimal numbering system in a class of the First Phase of Education of Youth and Adults (EJA). In this study, we will present fragments of the diagnostic test, of block two of the activities of Unit 01 and the development of students in relation to learning the content evaluated in the activity - the post-test. These data helped us to understand the research question: “What are the contributions of using cordel literature to the teaching of the decimal numbering system in the learning of students in a class of the 1st Phase of EJA? With the development of the didactic sequence it was possible to see an evolution of the class in relation to the learning of the decimal numbering system, going from 75% of correct answers in the initial test to 90% in the final test. Thus, showing how important it is to use new means that make these students protagonists of their learning.

This paper intends to outline the theme of young people with disabilities, with respect to the educational contexts to which they belong. Starting with brief references to the situation faced by young people in Italy, the author takes up themes dear to Special Education, with a particular focus on the theme of 'belonging' (relational, affective, cultural and institutional), which is often lacking or non-existent for those with a disability. The family, school and community of reference represent the educational 'contexts' of greatest interest and responsibility, in order to initiate young people's identity processes and contain the risks deriving from 'adhesive identities' and 'false selves'. The family contributes extensively to the positive development of self-orientation and the school can put itself forward as the most important reference point in learning processes, through the group. This widespread responsibility of educational contexts can also contribute to reducing situations of poverty and marginality that are, in fact, real conditions of capability deprivation, which prevent access to all the opportunities that life offers, risking further aggravation of 'problematic' situations, making them chronic and depriving them of a positive development. In this article we examine the complex relationship between care experience, mental health and exclusion from school and how young people (YP) negotiate these different experiences and identities. The study is a secondary analysis, informed by symbolic interactionist theory, of interviews conducted with 19 care experienced YP in Scotland. Not all of the YP were excluded and not all had a formal mental health diagnosis, as such our study design allows interrogation of the contexts and relationships which not only facilitate but also disrupt pathways to exclusion. It also allows reconsideration of assumptions of vulnerability which are often applied to care experienced YP. Our findings suggest that these YP are moving beyond 'role playing' the identities ascribed to them and actively seek out relationships which enable them to construct alternative identities. This article investigates the parental role in educational decisions of young adults in Poland. The country-context is vital due to the profound impact of the 1989 transition on educational aspirations and subsequent 'degree boom' in the younger cohorts. Using data from two qualitative studies, we adopt an intergenerational lens to examine how young men and women are affected by their mothers and fathers when making choices about their educational pathways. We propose a matrix of four types of educational aspirations framed by parents, pointing to the importance of resources (capitals/socialisational conditions) on the one hand, and the notion of socialisation influences linked to pragmatism and experimentation, on the other. Based on the analysis we discuss four ideal-types of Successors, Questers, Trailblazers and Hustlers. Accounting also for the gender dimension, we contribute to the broader debates on the reproduction of inequalities and unpack 'critical moments' in youth transitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Following remarks about the nature and significance of values and values education, generally and more specifically in China, England, Mexico and Spain, we explain the methods used to analyse official policies that apply to moral education, citizenship education and character education. We find similarity across the documents regarding five values-related themes: justice and the rule of law; harmony and tolerance; diversity and non-discrimination; international understanding; and equality. These themes emphasise understanding and knowing, with limited consideration of implementation and privileging of dominant values and contextually relevant considerations. We suggest that across countries there are attempts to develop personally responsible citizens and that further work is needed on how these documents are interpreted in practice by educators. Adolescents and young adults are often active participants in their health care, but our understanding of health literacy needs in this population is limited. The significance of this gap in the literature is magnified for youth facing behavioral health challenges in addition to chronic health conditions. This preliminary report finds that over two-thirds (68.7%) of a sample of youth ages 10–21 with co-occurring behavioral health and physical health challenges in Bergen County, New Jersey have low (12.7%), or the possibility of low (46.0%), health literacy. Based on this preliminary report, pediatric practices and organizations providing integrated health care services to youth may consider implementing health literacy screening to identify youth and families with the greatest potential need for intervention. Developing young children's vocabulary is essential for later reading success; thus, early childhood classrooms require a comprehensive vocabulary approach that teaches academic vocabulary. Yet even providing young children with child‐friendly definitions of sophisticated words can be a challenge. First, the authors outline the components of a comprehensive vocabulary program for young children. Second, they review research evidence on the importance of direct vocabulary instruction and ways to increase children's word consciousness and interest in learning "amazing" academic words. Next, they turn to practical suggestions of ways to select and teach new vocabulary. They describe ways to increase word consciousness that extend excitement for word learning. Finally, they demonstrate that early childhood educators can improve the quantity and quality of their vocabulary instruction when using a comprehensive vocabulary program the features routine shared book reading, direct vocabulary instruction, and supports for word consciousness. Background/Context: This conceptual essay contributes to recent education research on immigrant youth from West African countries that examines the interplay of popularized narratives of immigrant youth and young adults, and their Diasporic literacy practices. Specifically, we examine embodied Diaspora literacies as affirming and extending presences and absences of Black immigrant bodies across two contexts: an after-school African Club, and a qualitative inquiry of civic learning and action-taking of immigrant youth and young adults from West African countries. Purpose: We theorize in this conceptual essay the interplay of the humanity of Black immigrant youth and young adults and their embodied Diaspora literacy practices. We highlight possibilities for research, literacy teaching, and teacher education when intentionally naming, affirming, and building with the humanity of Black immigrant youth and young adults from West African countries--what we conceptualize as humanizing the Black immigrant body. We conceptualize humanizing the Black immigrant body as an enacting of embodied Diaspora literacies. In theorizing embodied Diaspora literacies, we build with African Indigenous lensings, and African, Black, and Chicana/Latina feminisms. We further contextualize humanizing the Black immigrant body as an enacting of embodied Diaspora literacies expressed in the creative and artistic practices and artifacts of artists, literary authors, playwrights, and youth and young adults who have long authored and told narratives that affirm, extend, and historicize the strengths of Black immigrant communities. Interpretive Analysis: We highlight in this conceptual essay the urgency of humanizing the Black immigrant body across four moments, or tellings of embodied Diaspora literacies. Our use of Diasporic tellings, an intentional naming and humanizing research approach, draws on the words of Chinua Achebe, the Nigerian author who reflected on the urgency of a global "balance of stories." We examine four Diasporic tellings: (1) youth in an African Club in a high school in New York City attending an off-Broadway play authored by a daughter of Ghanaian immigrants, (2) participating in a group discussion following the play, and (3) engaging in Youth Participatory Action Research inquiries; and (4) youth and young adults from West African countries discussing their creative and artistic embodied Diaspora literacies, and civic learning and action-taking across contexts of peers, schooling, and families. Conclusion / Recommendations: We theorize humanizing the Black immigrant body as a vibrant, necessary research and teaching stance to recognize the humanity of Black immigrant youth who daily negotiate and render visible their language and literacy practices. These practices comprise the coalescing of Black immigrant bodies, discursive perspectives, and material artifacts of teaching and learning, and their racialized, social, and educational experiences across contexts of schools and communities. These Diasporic tellings provide important insights for productive approaches in research, teaching, and teacher education with youth and young adults making sense of the lives of Black immigrants, across contexts of literacy learning and lived experiences that meaningfully recognize the humanity of Black immigrant youth from West African countries. Vocational education and training (VET) is high on the European agenda. This article adds nuance to the policy ambition of "fixing" parents' views on VET. It is based on extensive qualitative research in Romania, with over 250 young people. An unanticipated finding was the "absence" of parents from the young people's accounts, along with a tendency by the teachers and employers to blame young people for having "unreasonable expectations." This article explores the deeper structural reasons for the current state of "parental disengagement." Grounded in theory and research on the role of adolescent family experiences in young adult educational attainment, this study took the novel step of synthesizing results from prior studies and using a machine learning (ML) approach to address three questions: (1) By incorporating adolescent family experience factors examined across prior studies in a single analysis, how accurately can we predict young adult educational attainment? (2) Which family experience factors are the best predictors of young adult educational attainment? (3) What complex patterns among family experience predictors merit further examination? Based on a review of 101 publications that used National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health data to investigate links between adolescent family experiences and young adult attainment, we identified 53 family experience independent variables. We used an ML-based approach to train and test models with these 53 Wave I family variables (adolescent in Grade 7–12) as predictors of both college enrollment (N = 4598) and graduation (N = 4180) at Wave IV (young adult mean age = 28.88, SD = 1.76). Our models (1) obtained prediction accuracies of 73.43% and 72.33% for college enrollment, and 79.10% and 79.07% for college graduation, (2) identified the best predictors of college enrollment and graduation, including family socioeconomic characteristics and parent educational expectations, and (3) highlight nonlinear patterns for further examination. This study advanced understanding of how adolescent family experiences may influence educational attainment and provided a paradigm for developmental research to synthesize existing findings into novel discoveries with large-scale datasets. This paper seeks to introduce a reflection on the Escuela Sindical Bancaria, a union school founded by the Banking Association of Mendoza, which was the first Secondary Education Center opened in the province, in agreement with the National Direction of Adult Education (DINEA). We start with a brief history of the school and then focus on the construction of the Social Sciences Area, analyzing the bibliography used at the time and the specific mediations applied by the teachers in their classes. We conclude that trade union participation had a leading role in the school's opening process and in the construction of its political significance. Regarding academic content, official guidelines for the Social Sciences Area were not followed, as a unique construction was developed. According to practice engagement theory within the field of adult education, everyday workplace activities offer an opportunity for skill development among youth and young adults; yet, prior research highlights the prevalence of routine and low-skill work within entry-level jobs. Utilising data from the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), the objective of the following study is to demonstrate how workplace literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving activities differ among people aged 16 to 34 in Canada. Latent class analysis provides a typology of literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving activities at work and generates insight into how socio-demographic and employment factors are associated with each group. The findings highlight that employment cannot be uniformly characterised as low-skill. Rather, there are unique employment groups with differing literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving activity characteristics. Nevertheless, socio-demographic factors do matter for gaining access to employment that involves daily skill-based activities. While age, parental education, immigration background, and education level are significantly associated with the latent classes, economic and employment characteristics reduce the magnitude of these associations. Together, the results suggest that access to skill-based activities at work are more or less accessible for certain groups and connect to other aspects of early-career job quality and occupational segregation. Art education is often praised for its engaging programmes and inclusive pedagogies, with many initiatives created with the intention of widening access for those who are deemed to be lacking. This article investigates one such programme – the young people's Arts Award, which is a nationally recognised qualification for young people aged 11–25. I call upon a range of pedagogies in order to critique the Arts Award within the context of informal and alternative education settings in the United Kingdom. Drawing on a 12‐month ethnographic study, the research was conducted across five diverse programmes which included youth work projects and alternative provision. I present two cases – 'learning to be an artist' and 'learning to behave' – which demonstrate a hierarchy of pedagogy in the application of this programme across these particular contexts. Artists' Signature Pedagogies are used as an analytical framework to explore the affordances of working with artists through the programme. Further, I engage with the Pedagogy of Poverty to demonstrate that young people who were classified as 'dis‐engaged' were more likely to receive lower quality programmes, low‐level work and over‐regulated teaching. I argue that despite changes to the ways that young people access art education, there continues to be unequal opportunities. Prior studies have shown that young adults with severe physical and multiple disabilities are less likely to complete upper secondary education. This study aimed to identify whether these students' type of multiple disability, gender, location and literacy skills were associated with completion of upper secondary education. The participants were 74 young adults with severe physical disabilities (aged 19–22, M age = 20.2, SD = 1.16), of whom 39 (52.70%) had multiple disabilities. The data was gathered via the healthcare professionals' instrument, Severely Disabled Youth's Life Situation and Functioning of Service Systems in Finland. The results of chi-squared tests of independence indicated that having severe physical disability (other than cerebral palsy) with intellectual disability, location, and literacy skills were associated with completion of upper secondary education. The binary logistic regression showed that urban location and moderate or good literacy skills predicted completion of upper secondary education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Triggered by rising higher education (HE) participation rates in recent years there is an intense debate in Germany regarding the future value of vocational education and training (VET). While VET in Germany has traditionally been a major contributor to the successful transition of young people fromschool to the labourmarket, this role is questioned by an increasing proportion of school leavers that enter HE instead of initial VET. This paper introduces this debate to the international readership by analysing the available data and by discussing some of the implications of the current changes. For instance, there are a number of studies that identify the fields and types of VET that are in danger of being substituted by HE provision, assuming a competitive relationship between the two sectors. However, there is also growing interest in programmes that aim to combine vocational and academic learning in so-called 'dual study programmes', taking a complementary perspective of VET and HE. The analysis will lead to conclusions regarding the future shape of upper secondary and tertiary education in Germany and the links of different education sectors to the labour market. This study uses quarterly EU Labour Force Survey data for 30 countries over the period 2000 to 2016 to examine the relationship between changes in the composition of educational attainment and overeducation rates among new labour market entrants holding post-secondary and tertiary qualifications. We find that tertiary education expanded rapidly across our sample, while the proportion of young people with lower levels of education fell gradually throughout the period. Despite the significant increases in the percentage of young people educated to tertiary level, overeducation among new tertiary graduates fell. The descriptive evidence also suggests that some of the greatest declines in overeducation of young tertiary graduates occurred in the countries experiencing the most significant expansion in tertiary education. Overeducation rates among young graduates with upper-secondary and postsecondary (non-tertiary) education were lower in magnitude than overeducation of tertiary graduates and declined slightly over the period. Our GMM results confirm the negative relationship between educational expansion and overeducation for both tertiary and post-secondary graduates, and reveal a number of other factors potentially explaining cross-country variation in youth overeducation rates. Introduction: Attending school and working are consistently associated with positive outcomes for juvenile offenders returning to the community.Methods: Using longitudinal data from the Pathways to Desistance Study, we used structural equation modeling to test whether better school experiences while incarcerated was positively connected to adjustment upon release among serious juvenile offenders (91% male) in the U.S. Adjustment was assessed as attending school for 310 legal minors (<18 years), and engaging in work for 259 emerging adults (≥18 years), as well as self-reported delinquency for all participants.Results: Accounting for incarceration and school history, results showed that facility school attachment, but not grades, was associated with decreased delinquency 12 months after release across sex in both age groups. Additionally, facility school attachment predicted engagement in school for returning minors. However, facility school experience was not related to engaging in work for returning emerging adults.Conclusions: Results indicate that facility school climate matters for all juvenile offenders returning to their communities and that correctional education done right presents an important opportunity to reconnect returning minors with school, an important normative context of development. Conversely, results suggest that returning offenders who have 'aged out' of high school are a separate vulnerable group who may need additional support for successful reentry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article's aim is twofold: to outline the specificity of the embeddedness approach and to explore the embeddedness of graduates' education-job mismatch and the formation of lifelong learning policies. The study is based on both quantitative and qualitative data, obtained from the Bulgarian Universities Ranking System, and from interviews with experts and young adults engaged in a lifelong learning programme. The analysis uses multilevel modelling. It also relies on mapping lifelong learning policies in Bulgaria through a thematic content analysis. The article argues that the misbalances for highly educated people on the labour market mirror structural problems in the economy and the educational system. The argument is reflected in the historical and structural embeddedness of graduates' education-job mismatches and the lifelong learning policies applied to overcome this. The results show that the extent of vertical education-job mismatch depends on the different profiles of higher education institutions and professional fields; they also demonstrate different ways in which the embeddedness approach could help shed new light on, and critically assess, lifelong learning policies. The findings reveal a differentiation between national and local levels of lifelong learning policy towards graduates and that regional policies are actively embedded in local contexts. The article argues that chronic unemployment has become the main context of youth policies in Spain and Brazil. Our point is that the current structural crisis of the capitalist system eventually provokes chronic unemployment. To be precise, both business and international organisations have endorsed structural adjustments and austerity policies that have destroyed productive forces through expropriation and exploitation in many countries, thus expanding chronic unemployment despite youth policies claiming otherwise. In Spain, two public policies try to circumvent the adverse situation of many youth, namely: the Quality of Education Act (LOMCE) and the Youth Guarantee Scheme. Brazil follows the same logic of these policies through initiatives such as the High School reform and Projovem program. However, in both countries the structural crisis threatens the future of young generations despite these fashionable policies exclusively targeted to them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the interface between lifelong learning policies and the definition of social vulnerability of young adults in two regions located within the European Union. Girona comprises a constellation of small towns with important industry, service and hospitality sectors. Vienna is a global city where many key international operators are based and employ a large number of highly qualified professionals. The article explores to what extent the meta-governance and the 'causal narratives' of lifelong learning policies contribute towards shaping the prevailing images of youth vulnerability in these regions. In Girona, bureaucratic governance patterns lifelong learning policies, which strongly rely on the potential of career guidance to encourage the youth to undertake further education. Correspondingly, policy designs and professional discourses emphasise that the beneficiaries previously failed at school. In Vienna, authorities govern lifelong learning by means of both bureaucracy and complex networks of employers and non-profit organisations. The 'causal narrative' of the policies straightforwardly claims that all youth must have an experience with employment, whether in apprenticeships or in transitional workshops that emulate real jobs. Thriving is a developmental process that is shaped by previous and current interactions within developmental contexts. We hypothesized that academic performance in the school context will positively predict thriving in young adulthood. Data of N = 2,043 students from Zurich were assessed with standardized tests in Grades 1, 3, 6, and 9. Results showed that a stronger increase in academic performance significantly predicted thriving at age 20, even after statistically controlling for various covariates. Further analyses showed that school bonding might represent a mediating link between the academic performance and thriving. We argue that although schools can be considered the most widespread and intensive "youth development program" of sorts, their role for thriving has been largely neglected in developmental science. Also cited are a comparison of the experiences of young adults who attended college and those who attended the military, the 2015 book "The Prime of Life: The History of Modern Adulthood," by Steven Mintz, as well as the responsibility of higher education leaders to understand the experience of young adults' transition to adulthood.

Background: Limited research has been conducted on the effectiveness of sexuality education for very young adolescents (VYAs) ages 10-14 years in Sub-Saharan Africa. Furthermore, evaluations of sexuality education programs often report outcomes of risky sexual practices, yet positive aspects of sexuality are hardly studied and rarely reported. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) intervention for VYAs in Uganda, analyzing both positive and negative outcome indicators.Methods: We conducted a mixed methods study, incorporating a cluster randomized trial (NCT03669913) among pupils in 33 randomly selected primary schools in Mbarara district. This was followed by a qualitative evaluation of the intervention in 4 schools that included 14 in-depth interviews and 3 focus group discussions distributed among pupils, teachers and parents. Quantitative data were analyzed using ordered logistic regression to compare differences in the change from baseline to endline between the intervention and control arms. We conducted bivariate analysis and multiple regression analysis controlling for key covariates, including age, gender, school location (rural vs urban), truancy, and orphanhood. Qualitative data were analyzed by thematic approach using ATLAS TI.Results: Between July 2016 and August 2017, 1096 pupils were recruited. Outcomes were studied among 380 pupils in the intervention arm and 484 pupils in the control arm. The proportion of pupils who ever had sex increased from 9 to 12.1% in intervention compared to 5.2 to 7.4% in the control group between baseline and endline, however the differences between groups were not statistically significant. We found greater improvements in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) knowledge among intervention schools (AOR: 2.18, 95% CI: 1.66-2.86) and no significant differences in self-esteem, body image or gender equitable norms. Qualitative evidence echoes perceived SRH knowledge acquisition, increased their perception of SRH related risks, and intentions to delay sexual intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy, HIV and other STIs.Conclusion: This study demonstrates that CSE can improve SRH knowledge and behavioral intentions among VYAs in Uganda. These results further emphasize the importance of initiating sexuality education before most adolescents have started engaging in sexual activity, enabling them to make informed decisions in the future.Trial Registration: NCT03669913 , registered retrospectively on September 13th, 2018. Overcoming the reluctance of teenage learners to speak in the language classroom is a challenge for many teachers. This article reports on a study in which 60 Swedish pupils, aged 15–16, took part in a Storyline project based on a young adult fantasy novel. In the Storyline approach, a fictive world is created when learners, taking on the roles of characters in a story, collaborate on tasks to develop the story. A key feature is that the learners work in the same small groups for much of the time. During the six-week period of this study, these learners used English in a variety of speaking and writing tasks. The project showed a number of benefits, the most important of which were an increase in their motivation to speak English and enhanced self-confidence through doing so. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Within the EU, answers and responses to detected issues and problems facing young people are regularly searched for within and through education and learning. The EU's Structured Dialogue on youth is one of the consultation-based policy processes where education is often suggested as a solution and a highly relevant field of action helping to improve youth's status and life. Using Foucauldian discourse analysis, this paper examines discourse about education present in selected policy texts and statements of various stakeholders and individuals active within the EU's Structured Dialogue on youth. As an example, the first two phases of the fifth cycle of that dialogue are considered and examined, exploring perceptions of the dialogue and education and their role. The paper aims to explore the underlying political rationalities of education via which the field is governed and programmable realities created, while young people's specific role and conduct is suggested and framed. This article aims to investigate if education policies moderate the association between unemployment and well-being among young adults. Based on the capability approach, we argue that education policies mitigate the negative effects of unemployment by providing opportunities for education and thus ways to exit unemployment. Education policies can strengthen capabilities, enhance the control that individuals have over their situation, and thereby reduce the stress associated with unemployment. We estimated cross-level interactions between education policies and unemployment status using multilevel methods and data from the European Social Survey. Results showed that policies that increase educational opportunities—such as generous second chance opportunities—were associated with smaller negative effects of unemployment on well-being and that this moderating impact was stronger for young adults with low education. Further analyses show that education policies are also associated with perceived capabilities among unemployed, supporting the proposed mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

All learning systems involve the successful completion of high quality assignments indicating that the student has done additional reading beyond the course material and has made out all-out-effort towards completing assignments with ingenuity. The Commonwealth youth program (CYP), Post Graduate Diploma in 'Youth in Development Work' played a significant role in promoting the student's based reading cum writing, speaking and listening skills, motivated thinking process and above capacity for critical thinking. Using data from the Luxembourg Income Study, we conduct a gender comparison of how young people aged 20–34 in Finland (n  = 19,941), Spain (n  = 29,458), Taiwan (n  = 47,219), and the United States (n  = 184,581) participated in full time work, short-hours or temporary work, education, and homemaking before and after the Great Recession (GR) beginning 2008. Gender and country patterns varied substantially. In Finland, the GR was associated with higher proportions of young women homemaking, perhaps due to public support for home care of children. In Spain and the United States, higher proportions of both young men and young women were un- or underemployed post-GR, suggesting downward gender convergence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The educational experiences and outcomes of care experienced children and young people is of longstanding concern. The pervasive inequalities they face suggest that current policies have been unable to respond fully to the complex causes of the problem. This paper reflects on a qualitative study into the educational experiences and aspirations of children and young people who are looked after in Wales. The project worked with care experienced peer researchers and drew on visual, creative and participatory techniques to explore 67 children's and young people's experiences of education and, importantly, their opinions on what could be done to improve it. This multimodal approach allowed space for participants to think through their subjective, mundane, but important, experiences that operate alongside, and interact with, more structural challenges. A range of films, magazines, artwork, and music outputs were developed to ensure that the project recommendations could reach wide and diverse audiences. This paper argues the voices of children and young people need to be given a platform to inform policy and practice. For this to happen researchers need to be creative in their approaches to both fieldwork and dissemination; harnessing the power of the arts to make positive changes in the everyday lives of children and young people. This paper considers the role that schools have in determining whether school leavers participate in higher education or not. It examines the association between schools and university participation using a unique dataset of 3 cohorts of all young people leaving maintained schools in Wales. School “effects” are identified, even after controlling for individual-level factors, such as their prior attainment, socioeconomic circumstances, ethnicity, and special educational needs. Schools appear to have a particular “effect” on the likelihood that a young person enters an elite university. However, the findings suggest the concept of a school “effect” on higher education participation is not straightforward - schools appear to have different levels of effectiveness depending on the gender of the young people and the nature of their higher education participation. Fostering the skills necessary for self-directed learning is an important endeavour of vocational education and training in many contexts internationally. However, there is a distinct lack of studies that investigate the extent to which facilitation of self-directed learning is present within vocational education and training in different contexts. An exploratory thematic qualitative analysis of inspectors’ comments within general Further Education college Ofsted inspection reports was conducted to investigate the balance of control of the learning process between teacher and learner within vocational education and training of young adults in England. A clear difference between outstanding and inadequate provision is reported. Inadequate provision was overwhelmingly teacher-directed. Outstanding provision reflected a collaborative relationship between teacher and learner in directing the learning process, despite the Ofsted framework not explicitly identifying the need for learner involvement in directing the learning process. The present paper offers insight into the understanding of how an effective balance of control of learning between teacher and learner may be realised in vocational education and training settings and highlights the need to consider the modulating role of contextual factors. This article explores the complex emotional experiences of young male rural migrants in the city of Delhi, India. Based on multi-sited fieldwork, and drawing on a long-term study in Bihar, India, this paper contributes to emerging scholarship on the emotional geographies of migration that prioritise young people’s perspectives. I show that while young migrants are active agents in their own migration, they are also subject to specific vulnerabilities and exploitation. At the same time, they undertake challenging emotional labour in the city to create particular working identities that are both a source of pride and shame. I argue that an insertion of emotions in the analysis of migration helps disentangling this dissonance between migrants’ economic success and social rejection in the city. The article makes a case for the incorporation of emotions for a more comprehensive and nuanced analysis of young people’s migration in academic and policy discourses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This systematic review was undertaken to identify and assess an interactive pedagogical tool which uses photography to educate young people, with the participatory action research methodology, Photovoice being so identified. Photovoice involves participants photographically documenting a specific issue, then using the images to drive discussions with relevant policy and decision makers. This review analyses literature that examines the use of Photovoice as a pedagogical tool among young people aged from 13 to 19 years old in a variety of educational conditions around the globe. Research studies published between 2012 and 2017 that meet inclusion criteria were analysed in order to answer the research question: how effective is Photovoice as a pedagogical tool among young people in a variety of multicultural settings? Literature was searched in two academic databases, based on search terms derived from the research question. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guided the selection of the articles, which resulted in 14 studies meeting the criteria. Findings show that as a pedagogical tool for young people, Photovoice is highly successful in using photography to educate students from across the globe. The methodology overrides barriers of language, culture, social settings, gender and location, and its interactive and participatory nature results in it effectively tackling a multiplicity of issues face by young people around the globe. The data of this research work is given by secondary sources. In this study, we have analysed the introduction of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and an overview of trainees about short and long days youth training programme on education process of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. It is clear from 96.39% good openion of short days youth trainees for the lesson plan was feaseable to the trainees. 98.80% trainees of short day's trainings were agreed with organizing of training programme. It is the indication of positive response of trainees. All female trainees were 100% agree with the education process of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. 99.10% was positive response for the good progress of the cource. For the lesson plane preparation and learning and reading method 98.80% and 98.49% were positive response. 99.70% trainees were agreed with the facielity of training rooms. 99.10% trainees were agreed with the resources and material of learning. 86.76 trainees of long day's trainings were agreed with education process of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. 89.70% female trainees of log day's trainings were agreed with the feasibility of lesson plane. 92.65% trainees of long day's trainings were agreed with good organizing days. 91.18% trainees of long day's trainings were agreed with attandence level of trainees and 88.24% for the progress of the cource.
