In this paper, the low-cycle unidirectional stress controlled (R=0) loading experiments were carried out on AW 1050 aluminium alloy friction stir welded (FSW) and tungsten inert gas welded (TIG) specimens in order to com-pare the influence of the welding method on the durability of welded structures. It was found that, under stress controlled unidirec-tional stress (R=0) loading, the material AW 1050 is cycli-cally stable as the semicycle hysteresis loop width remains constant with increase in number of cycles. The same cycli-cal properties remain for AW 1050 aluminium alloy FSW and TIG welded joints. All the specimens demonstrated a tendency to accumulate the plastic strain. The stress con-trolled low-cycle fatigue testing enabled to conclude that the AW 1050 not welded specimens have the highest fatigue life. Among the welded joints, the FSW ones have a better fatigue life.

This paper presents an experimental investigation and a numerical modelling of the friction stir welding (FSW) process on aluminium alloy AW 1050 and TL091T4 plates. The experiments were done in order to analyse the influence of different welding parameters on the horizontal welding force. The modelling of the FSW process of AW 1050 aluminium alloy was carried out and the temperature, von Mises stress, equivalent plastic strain and horizontal welding force variation over time were obtained. A comparison between the experimental and the modelled horizontal welding force showed a good agreement. The obtained results of the presented study lead to a conclusion that the presumptions taken in the modelling are reasonable, therefore, the FEM modelling could be used for prediction of rational FSW parameters in order to define lower weld force, which leads to a decrease of tool wear.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.mech.22.4.16167

This paper presents an experimental analysis and a numerical simulation of the friction stir spot welding (FSSW) process on aluminium alloy 5754 plates. The experiments were done in order to analyse the influence of different welding regimes on the welding force. The simulation of the FSSW process was carried out and the equivalent plastic strain, temperature and welding force were obtained. The shape of the spot weld in the simulation is close to the actual shape obtained by the experiments. The trends of the experimental and the simulated welding force variation over time are quite similar The obtained results of the presented study lead to a conclusion that the presumptions taken in the simulation are reasonable and the model quite realistically defines the FSSW process. The FEM model could be useful for prediction of rational FSSW regimes in order to lower welding forces and, as a consequence, to decrease tool wear. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.mech.22.1.14243

In this paper there are presented several investiga-tions considering the wire cutting tool diameter which does influence on wire cutting operation accuracy when in the cutting operation it is used various matrix configurations. The investigation consist of true cutting opera-tions, when is used different poison and the matrix diame-ters for cutting the same wire diameter. The second part of investigation consists of determining the mechanical prop-erties of tested specimens. The third investigation part is building Finite element model and making tension test as well as making cutting operation as well as in the first part. The last one part of investigation consists of making 3D scan and comparing result of FEM and real scanned spec-imen. The major investigation achievement is that there were determined three deformed zones in the cut wire strip. This is the same result was gained in the FE model as well. So the model showed relevant and reliable results for making judgments on deformed zones in the real specimen. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.mech.21.6.13477

In some fields of industry, such as stowage works, strongly safety assessment should be ensured, so it is im-portant to design constructions, like platforms, which would withstand heavy static loading and, in emergences situations, to withstand the same bulk, dropped from the predicted height, with the ability to damp it. In order to perform a FEM structural analysis of such structure, the accurate material characteristics should be known. For this reason, four types of specimens - standard flat, tube con-toured and the same ones containing longitudinal weld, welded in the longitudinal direction using electrodes CT36, were manufactured from a stainless 321 steel sheet and tested in order to define mechanical properties of the mate-rial. Using the obtained true stress-strain curves, the static analysis of pillar compression was carried out and the sim-ulation of its behaviour, if a heavy weight structure will be dropped from a height of 5 meters, was performed. The static analysis showed that, when the static load is 40 tons, the pillar structure satisfies high safety requirements. The dynamic impact simulation showed that the most reasona-ble load for the pillar is 9 - 11 tons and, if it is not over-loaded, the longitudinal weld does not influence an adverse effect and the pillar deforms smoothly without cracks., Eksploatuojant krovinių platformas turi būti užtikrintas atraminių konstrukcijų patikimumas ir krovos darbų sauga, todėl jas projektuojant, skaičiuojamieji modeliai turi įvertinti ne tik ribinių statinių apkrovų poveikį, bet ir avarinių situacijų atvejais gebėti atlaikyti bei amortizuoti smūgines apkrovas.

In this paper there were given the results from the investigation of the mechanical properties of pipe elbow modeled with finite element under the working conditions of 550ºC. The pipe elbow was modeled with three different boundary conditions: i.e. when the pipe is constructed from the separate tensile, compression and the neutral zones. Analysis was performed with mechanical properties from neutral and tangential zones. The second test has been in-vestigated under the dynamical load conditions. After the investigation of mechanical properties of overheated steam pipe elbow under the working per-formance of 45000 exploitation time at AB Lithuania power plant and under the working temperature of 550oC there can be draw a conclusion that stress do not exceed the admissible stress limit. At the dynamical load case, more then 95% of working pressure reaches its load limit in less then the 1% of total intended time. Such an imitation of the load causes resonance processes., Šiame straipsnyje pateikta vamzdžio lenktosios dalies mechaninių charakteristikų tyrimas baigtinių elementų metodu, esant 550ŗC eksploatacijos temperatūrai.

The present paper is a continuation of the authors’ works. The paper examines a variable blank holding force of sheet metal on overall forming details. We present a new analytical expression which characterizes a variable holding force. This expression covers all the main compo-nents affecting forming components, such as: strain rate, the actual material stress state, static and dynamic friction coefficients, the specific details of the thickness as a func-tion of punch displacement, and two very important em-pirical factors. These empirical coefficients directly char-actere variable blank holding force by changing its shape and size. Comparison of constant and variable blank hold-ing force strain rate state after the full forming operation of an investigated metal sheet part is presented in the forming limit diagram (FLD) diagram, where clearly can be seen that a variable blank holding force significantly reduces final plastic strain value., Šis darbas yra autorių ankstesnių darbų tęsinys. Jame nagrinėjama kintamos metalo lakšto prispaudimo jėgos įtaka pagrindinėms detalės formavimo savybėms. Čia pateikiama nauja analitinė išraiška, kuri charakterizuoja kintamą prispaudimo jėgą. Į šią išraišką įtrauktos visos pagrindinės detalės formavimo savybes įtakojančios sudėtinės dalys, tokios kaip: deformacijos greitis, faktinis medžiagos įtempių būvis, statinis ir dinaminis trinties koeficientai, tam tikras detalės storis kaip funkcija nuo puansono poslinkio, bei du labai svarbūs empiriniai koeficientai. Pastarieji charakterizuoja ir įtakoja kintamos prispaudimo jėgos formą ir dydį. Palyginus deformacijų būvius po pilno detalės išformavimo, esant pastoviai ir kintamai prispaudimo jėgai, iš ribinio formavimo diagramos (FLD) matome, kad kintama prispaudimo jėga ženkliai sumažina galinę plastinių deformacijų būvio vertę.

This article presents the investigation of mechanical characteristics of the pipe's straight part dependence on operating temperature and exploitation times. The strength characteristics spl, Rp0,2, Rm, sfl decrease with increasing exploitation life and temperature, whereas the plasticity characteristic Z a little depend on the exploitation life. It increases with the increasing temperature, except for the pipe after 160 000 h of exploitation. When steel 12Ch1MF is used at 550°C temperature long time, intensive carbon diffusion takes place. Thus carbon contained in perlite diffuses and forms carbides, which results in worsening of steel's properties: increasing plasticity and decrease strength characteristics. Comparison thick walled pipes (Lame) and thin walled pipes equations results with results the finite element method showed that Lame theoretical equation describes stresses in the pipes more precisely., Straipsnyje aprašyti tiesios vamzdžio dalies mechaninių charakteristikų tyrimai, atlikti esant skirtingai eksploatacijos temperatūrai ir trukmei.

This paper represents an investigation of hydrogen concentration and temperature influence on nuclear power reactor fuel channel tube material - Zr-2.5Nb zirconium alloy (TMT-2) fracture characteristics from the positions of nonlinear fracture mechanics. Zirconium free and made-up hydrogen saturated seminatural compact specimens were tested at various hydrogen concentration levels from 52 up to 140 ppm in order to examine temperature and hydrogen concentration influence onto fracture criteria J-integral of the alloy. Testing temperatures were selected with corresponding various operating regimes of the reactor and comprises 20, 170 and 200°C. Experimental data that has been given during experiment enabled to construct experimental J-R curves from which critical J-integral values J
1c were calculated. Dependence of J1c to various mechanical characteristics of the alloy has been analysed and satisfactory correlation of J-integral critical value J1c to modified plasticity criterion Zmod of the alloy was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The paper presents an investigation of wire strip mechanical properties who's what are use in the manufacturing of single core wire ropes [1]. The problem of the investigation is that the rope which must include all wire strips with a same mechanical properties. But since in the single core wire rope sometimes there are used wires from a different coils the breaking point of rope may vary. In the paper there are presented how do the wire strips break at the same load is applied in comparison with those wire strips having single and the same mechanical properties. The investigations were carried out using tension test and finite element method. Breaking point of wire strip were gained from tension test. And wire strip single core breaking regularities were determined by using finite element method. Validation of results of braking point were determined by using nonlinear FEM software LS-Dyna. The importance of investigation are significant to engineers, scientists and manufacture workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents investigation of relevancy of nonproportional over constant blank holding forces in stamping metal sheet part made from steel grades 45 and 45H. The load applied on the part was constant and nonproportional. There were used 3 different applied load schemes: Constant - Constant, Nonproportional -Nonproportional and Constant - Nonproportional. The results revealed that the highest peaks on stiffness curves belong to material 45H deformed with Constant - Constant blank holding load. Other loads applying schemes distributed accordingly: Constant - Nonproportional and Nonproportional - Nonproportional. The similar results are given in the concept of the plastic strain, thickness distribution and for the outer most points' movement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of the work -- investigation of aging process of Ignalina NPP fuel channel tubes manufactured from zirconium alloy Zr-2,5 Nb, i.e. determination of the influence of hydrogen content and temperature on fracture toughness characteristics and critical integral JIC. The main factor initiating degradation of the fuel channel materials under operating conditions is hydrogen, which forms during corrosion process and is absorbed in zirconium alloy. In zirconium alloy containing with hydrogen form hydrides, which cause brittleness of this alloy and decrease strength to brittle fracture. Fracture toughness characteristics KQ, KC and JIC were investigated on compact specimens (B ≈ 4 mm) without hydrogen and containing with hydrogen (52, 100 and 140 ppm) at 20, 170, 200 and 300°C. The investigation showed that characteristics of fracture toughness depended a little on hydrogen saturation value and more on temperature. The critical integral JIC for containing with hydrogen specimens decrease at 20°C, however at the increase of test temperature to 300°C also increase. Analysis of KC and J1C dependence on mechanical characteristics of zirconium alloy has shown, that modified plasticity Zmod = (Rp0,2/Rm)Z satisfactory approximated the influence of temperature and hydrogen concentration on this characteristics variation. This paper deals with the investigation of the influence of hydrogen concentration on zirconium alloy Zr-2.5Nb (TMT-2) mechanical characteristics at various operating regimes, which are related to temperature variation from normal to elevated up to 300°C. Tensile specimens, which were cut off from the reactor fuel channel tube free and hydrogen saturated at concentration levels from 52 up to 140 ppm were tested in order to evaluate the influence of hydrogen ingress on mechanical properties of the alloy. Specimens made from hydrogen free alloy were tested at 20, 150 and 300°C temperatures, while hydrogen saturated specimens were tested at 20, 170, 200 and 300°C. Results of the investigation has shown that at temperature increase mechanical characteristics of strength decrease and reduction of are increase. Saturation with hydrogen has stronger influence on mechanical characteristics only at 20-170°C and increases decreasing temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
