Philosophy programs for children have an important position in developing cognitive skills in children. This study focuses on how philosophy can be used effectively in helping children think inquisitively, creatively and critically, starting from early childhood. The importance of the research stems from the fact that it holistically addresses the methods that can be used to develop thinking skills through philosophy and includes original examples enriched with different activities for early childhood. In this regard, an attempt has been made to present a holistic perspective that takes into account the diversity of activities in early childhood education programs and the developmental needs of the child. In this study, it was concluded that philosophy programs for children will contribute to the child's development in many aspects such as being able to produce thoughts around ethical values, building selfconfidence by participating in a community of inquiry, and treating others with care. - Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of values education given to 5-6 years old children attending pre-school institutions through digital storytelling, on the value development of students (responsibility, respect, cooperation, honesty, friendship, sharing). This study was planned and implemented as a quasiexperimental design study with a pre-test and post-test control group in order to investigate the effectiveness of values education given to 5-6 years old children attending pre-school education through digital storytelling, one hour a week, for a total of eight weeks. Sixty children aged 5-6 years, attending pre-school education institutions, were included in the study. The "Preschool Values Scale; Teacher and Family Form" was used in the research which developed by Neslitürk and Çeliköz (2015). The scale includes items that can measure the friendship, respect, honesty, sharing, cooperation and responsibility values of preschool students. The Preschool Values Scale consists of 30 items in the Teacher Form and 30 items in the Family Form. As a result of the research; according to the results of the parent's and teachers's evaluation of the experimental and control groups' value judgment levels, an increase was observed in the control group's "respect and friendship" values, an increase in the "cooperation" value of the experimental group was observed. As a result of teacher evaluations, an increase was observed in the "honesty" value of the control group, while an increase was observed in the values of "responsibility and friendship" of the experimental group. Davranışlarına yön vermede temel referans noktası olarak kabul edilen değerlerin, gerçek hayattaki belirleyici rolünün sosyal medya paylaşımları üzerinde de etkili olması beklenmektedir. Ancak sosyal medyanın kullanıcılarına sunduğu olanakların artması ve çeşitlenmesiyle toplumda önemli değerlerden olan mahremiyete yönelik algının değişime uğraması ve mahremiyetin kişisel rızaya dayalı olarak ifşası söz konusudur. Literatürde artan sosyal medya kullanımının mahremiyet algısı üzerindeki olumsuz etkilerine yönelik çalışmalar bulunmasına rağmen konunun değerler eğitimi çerçevesinde Din Kültürü ve Ahlak Bilgisi (DKAB) öğretmenlerinin bakış açısıyla incelendiği bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada değerlerin yaşamdaki belirleyici rolünün sosyal medya kullanımının yaygınlaşmasıyla değişip değişmediği ve ne yönde değiştiği mahremiyet değeri örnekliğinde DKAB öğretmenlerinin görüşlerine dayalı olarak incelenmektedir. Araştırmanın amacı DKAB öğretmenlerinin mahremiyete ve mahremiyetin dönüşümüne ilişkin görüşlerini sosyal medya paylaşımları bağlamında incelemektir. Bu doğrultuda; DKAB öğretmenlerinin mahremiyet algılarının; mahremiyetin tanımı, mahrem olarak değerlendirilen durumlar, mahremiyeti ihlal eden sosyal medya paylaşımları ve bu paylaşımlarda olması gereken ölçüt açılarından belirlenmesi, sosyal medya ve mahremiyet konusunda öğrencilere nasıl bir eğitim verilebileceğine ilişkin görüşlerinin derinlemesine incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yönteminde fenomenoloji desenine göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu çeşitli illerde görev yapan 19 DKAB öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yoluyla toplanmış, içerik analizi yöntemi ile tema, kategori ve kodlara ayrılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda mahremiyetin sosyal medya paylaşımları yoluyla ihlal edildiği, mahremiyet algısının ise sosyal medyayla ilişkili birçok faktöre bağlı olarak değişime uğradığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Günümüzde oluşan paylaşım kültürünün mahremiyet algısını olumsuz etkilediği ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırma sonuçlarının ilgili araştırmacı, öğretmen, ebeveyn ve yetkililer açısından önemli çıkarımlara sahip olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokul 5. sınıf fen bilimleri ders kitaplarında yer alan değerleri belirlemek ve incelemektir. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın veri kaynağı, farklı yayınevleri tarafından basılmış olan ve 2020–2021 eğitim-öğretim yılından itibaren okutulan, iki 5. sınıf fen bilimleri ders kitabıdır. Fen bilimleri ders kitaplarını değerler bakımından incelemek için Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu Başkanlığı tarafından hazırlanmış 10 kök değer sınıflandırması kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda fen bilimleri ders kitaplarında en fazla “öz denetim” ve “sorumluluk” değerlerinin yer aldığı, buna karşılık “adalet” ve “dostluk” değerlerinden hiç bahsedilmediği, “dürüstlük” ve “saygı” değerlerinden ise sadece bir kez bahsedildiği görülmüştür. Ayrıca incelenen her iki ders kitabında da değerlerin ünitelere göre dağılımının dengeli olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında fen bilimleri ders kitaplarının tüm kök değerleri içerecek şekilde tekrar düzenlenmesi ve değerleri içeren ifadelerin görsellerle desteklenmesi önerilmektedir.

This article analyzes the stories of Sait Faik Abasıyanık's book "Sarnıç" in the context of values education. The research finds that the book contains a wide range of values, indicating Sait Faik's value consciousness and understanding of society. The article emphasizes the importance of values education and the role of literature in transmitting values. The text discusses the relationship between education and literature, highlighting the role of literature in educating society and transmitting cultural values. It specifically focuses on the works of Sait Faik Abasıyanık, a Turkish writer known for his stories that emphasize love, respect, and tolerance. The text also describes the methodology used in analyzing Sait Faik's stories in terms of values education, using the Schwartz Values Classification as a tool. The findings of the analysis are presented for two of Sait Faik's stories, "Sarnıç" and "Kalorifer ve Bahar," highlighting the values of power, hedonism, stimulation, universalism, benevolence, tradition, and security. The aim of this study is to improve students' awareness of values by using flags and banners within the scope of social studies course. With the studies prepared with the examples of flags and banners used in Turkish states, the values of "independence", "freedom", "patriotism" and "respect" were tried to be developed. This study is of great importance for the promotion of Turkish flags and banners, which are of great importance for the existence, unity and independence of a nation, and for the development of values that have an important place in education programs. In this study, it is essential to determine the importance of the flag as a symbol of national independence and freedom with examples of flags and banners, to develop values and to raise awareness of protecting the flag. This study was carried out within the scope of "Active Citizenship Unit" within the scope of social studies course with 25 5th grade students of a state secondary school in Ereğli district of Zonguldak province in the 2020-2021 academic year. This research was carried out with the case study pattern, which is one of the qualitative research models Within the scope of this study, data were collected with the answers given by the students to the questions about the analysis of the values related to the flag and ensign samples in the worksheets, and the collected data were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, it was determined that the students gained awareness about the values with the comments and determinations extracted from the students' discourses and that the studies were effective for the development of the students' values. This study aims to understand the ethical source of the selfless efforts as a prosocial behavior taken by mine workers during search and rescue operations after 6 February earthquakes. The study is qualitative and follows a phenomenological methodology. In this regard, face-to-face and online interviews with 17 individuals were conducted using the intentional and snowball sampling methods. Partici-pants are mine workers from TTK and private miners in Zonguldak who voluntarily helped in search and rescue operations following the earthquakes on February 6, 2023. A semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers was used as a data collecting technique, and the results were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. Themes, categories, and codes were developed by reviewing the literature, research questions, and participant responses. The findings were analyzed under four themes: (i) description of the work performed during the search and rescue operations, (ii) ethical justification of the work done during the search and rescue operations, (iii) definition of success, (iv) challenges encountered during search and rescue operations and ways to overcome them. The results indicate that while a sense of community is the most essential aspect in justification prosocial behaviors, belief, conscience, and empathy are all important. Additionally, it has been found that in high-risk workplaces, at combination of ethical principles and professional skills enhances productivity. The aim of this study was to identify the values expressed in 107 poems from the poetry book “Kucağımda Dünya Var Çocukların Dünyası” written by Azerbaijani writer Bilal Enser in Azerbaijani Turkish, using the phenomenological design, a qualitative research method. The research findings identified 322 value expressions in the poems, encompassing 16 different values. The poems frequently mention the value of love, followed by sharing and patriotism. Loyalty and generosity are the least frequently mentioned values. The study's results indicate that the distribution of values in the poems is unequal and not close to each other. Furthermore, it was found that the most commonly used value in Azerbaijani Turkish poetry is love, which is expected to benefit society. It is also suggested that research be conducted to identify the values present in poetry books for children published in other Turkic Republics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Çalışmanın amacı, matematik dersi öğretim programındaki 10 kök değerden birisi olan adalet değerinin, matematik ders kazanımlarıyla bütünleştirildiği örnek bir etkinliğin sınıf içi uygulama ve öğrenci görüşmeleri çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmada durum çalışması modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında 7. sınıf öğrencisi olan 8 kişidir. Araştırmada Adalet değeri ile ilgili olarak hazırlanan etkinlik ve yarı yapılandırılmış öğrenci görüşme formu veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Etkinliğin uygulanmasından sonra elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Öğrenciler, adalet değerlerinin öneminin kavranması ve adalet konusu hakkındaki toplumsal bilincin arttırması için matematik derslerinde değer temelli etkinliklerin yapılmasını gerekli gördüklerini belirtmişlerdir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, öğrencilerin değer konusundaki farkındalıklarını artırmak için kendi değer algılarını matematiksel problem durumuna göre açıklayıp sürece aktif olarak katılabilecekleri ders içi etkinliklerin planlanması, uygulanması ve tartışılması önerilmektedir.

Ortaokul öğrencilerinin müzik dinleme alışkanlıklarının belirlenerek dinledikleri şarkıların sözlerinin değerler eğitimi kapsamında hangi kök değerleri içerdiğinin incelendiği bu çalışmada betimsel tarama ve doküman analizi yöntemleri birlikte işe koşulmuştur. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılında Türkiye’nin üç farklı bölgesinin İstanbul, Şanlıurfa ve Konya şehirlerindeki devlete ait ortaokul ve imam-hatip ortaokullarında öğrenim gören 469 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak dört sorudan oluşan mini bir anket kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda katılımcıların en çok dinlediği sanatçıların Türk ve yabancı uyruklu olduğu, bu isimlerin dijital müzik platformlarının güncel ve en çok dinlenen listelerinde yer aldığı, sanatçıların pop ve rap müzik türünde eserler ürettikleri ve Kore pop sanatçılarının ilk sıralarda yer aldığı tespit edilmiştir. Katılımcıların, şarkıcıları ya da grupları; seslerinin güzelliği, şarkılarının ve şarkı sözlerinin güzelliği, danslarının, giyim tarzlarının ve sahnelerinin güzelliği ile popüler oluşları gibi çeşitli değişkenler yönünden beğendikleri görülmüştür. Katılımcıların en çok dinlediği ilk on şarkının sözlerinde, Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın öğretim programlarında kazandırmayı hedeflediği on kök değerden hiçbirisinin bulunmadığı çalışmanın diğer bulguları arasındadır. Değerler eğitiminde kullanılmak üzere çocuklara yönelik özellikle pop ve rap müzik türlerinde nitelikli şarkıların bestelenmesi ve bu şarkıların devlet eliyle yaygınlaştırılması önerilebilir.

There are statistical data that lead us to talk about the existence of a problem that can be described as 'rapid aging' or 'social aging' in Turkey in recent years. The problem can also be called 'the meltdown of human resources'. It seems that Turkey will no longer be a country with a young population in the long run. The loss of human resources and their separation from production is a great loss that will not be easy to compensate. The powers that have occupied Islamic geographies in the last hundred years have not been stingy in granting independence to the countries where they have imposed law, education and employment systems. What is important for them is to raise people according to their own standards. What is important for them is that the young population of the countries they occupy resemble themselves. If the population growth rate in any country has fallen dangerously, it is necessary to question the education system first. Religion should be included as a value above all other values in the education system. The fact that religion is not given the highest value makes values such as truth, justice, altruism and helpfulness independent of each other and ownerless. All values gain meaning through religion. Religion values population and sees every child born as a manifestation of the names and attributes of Allah Almighty. Independence from religion leads to nihilism. The move away from religion has led young people to nationalist movements independent of religion. Compulsory education that is not filled with qualified education brings more harm than good. Spiritual homeland is the sustainability of society's human resources together with its values. In the Quran, importance is given to the sustainability of the population. If the values can be passed on to the next generations, the population is sustainable and the spiritual homeland continues. The meticulousness regarding the protection of man and his generation is also seen in hadiths. Hz. In the hadiths of the Prophet encouraging marriage, there is an emphasis on the abundance of the population. One of the primary functions of education is to raise virtuous individuals who are familiar with the values of their society, live up to them and make them part of their lives. One of the most effective ways to teach values is to introduce the important cultural elements that exist in the tradition of the society to the next generations, presenting them in a practicable format. In this context, the culture of charitable foundations, which has performed a leading function in social and economic life in the Islamic world for centuries, holds an important position. In this context, in the Ottoman society, wealthy and benevolent people, especially the sultans, launched charitable foundations in order to contribute to the social and economic life of the society and to sustain educational and medical services. Since any attempt to deal with all the charitable foundation services performed in the Ottoman Empire would exceed the limits of this study, we shall focus on the most common charitable foundation services in the Ottoman society such as bird houses, caravanserais, the zimem notebooks, alms basins, and soup kitchens are discussed in terms of values education. In the Ottoman, not only human beings but also all living things were valued and various charitable foundations were established in this regard, to the extent some of them were set up for the care and needs of animals such as birds, cats, and dogs. The bird houses that were built into the walls of buildings such as mosques, mansions, tombs, and water fountains are just few of the reflections of the culture of charitable foundations. The caravanserais are one of the most important charitable foundation services, which contain the best examples of the high value that Islamic civilization has attached to human beings and all living things. The caravanserais, which offered free accommodation and shelter to people without making any discrimination amongst Muslims, non-Muslims, freemen, slaves, the rich and the poor, were built on important road routes, offering a free accommodation to passengers as well as their mounts. It is possible to see one of the best examples of solidarity, cooperation and sharing in the Ottoman society in the zimem notebooks which kept record of a client’s debts. Under the conditions of that day, people did their shopping from the grocery store, greengrocer or butcher, and if they had no cash at that time, they let their debts be written down in the zimem notebook. Benevolent people visited the shop where the zimem notebook was located at a suitable time, and had a certain amount of debt written off from the zimem notebook according to their economic power without letting anyone notice. The crucial point in this practice is that neither the benevolent knows whose debt he has paid off, nor is the debtor aware of who has paid off his debt. One of the concrete examples of this is the alms basins in the Ottoman society, which attaches a great importance to the human being and human dignity, especially when helping needy people in all areas of life. So, alms basins are a form of cooperation in which the giver and the recipient do not see each other and no one’s dignity is damaged. As one of the institutions that made important contributions to the solidarity and cohesion in Ottoman society for many years, the soup kitchens (imarets) provided food for the poor and travelers, especially the students in madrasahs. Soup kitchen is one of the charitable organizations that were established only for the sake of God. The purpose of this study, is to discuss some foundation services in the Ottoman Empire in terms of values education. In addition, it is to evaluate the possibility of the emergence and development of some values in students by including some of the foundation services in the education system, and to make some suggestions on this subject at the same time. In order to realize this aim, the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods, was adopted in the study and document analysis method was used in data collection. According to the data obtained as a result of this study, the functions performed by the charitable foundations in the Ottoman society contained such values as mercy, compassion, generosity, kindness, self-sacrifice, modesty, sensitivity, aesthetics, grace, fidelity, sincerity, friendship, responsibility, cooperation, solidarity, sharing, and altruism. It seems that these values are related to the root values included in the curriculum and expected to be internalized by the students For this reason, it is thought that giving an effective position in the curriculum to the services provided by the charitable foundations, which served as the basis of solidarity, cohesion, unity and solidarity in Ottoman society for hundreds of years, will play an important role in teaching students many values such as love, respect and compassion. - Abstract
A generation that is alienated for himself and the society in which he lives, and the negative consequences of that alienation have revealed the importance of values and the necessity of values education. Because the values and values education of individuals assists a person to recognize and understand himself first and then the culture and society in which he lives. The correct and complete acquisition of values is realized with the abilities of teachers in schools. It is known that one of the primary tasks of teachers in education is to impart basic values and moral principles to the growing generations. The teacher who organizes values education should determine which values he aims to give to students, with which content he can achieve these goals, with which methods, techniques and tools he can process this content in the most efficient way, and then in what way he can evaluate the acquired values. Because the better the planning stage of values education is done, the higher success to be achieved from values education is expected to be. Otherwise, waste of effort and time may occur in the values education process and students may not be able to gain the desired values. In this regard, it is very important for teachers to have knowledge and skills about different methods in order to carry out values education effectively and efficiently. This research is a quantitative study conducted on the basis of a descriptive causal comparative model. It is examined whether the independent variables defined in causal comparative studies have an effect on the dependent variable. The aim of this research is to examine whether the application levels of RCE teachers regarding the methods and activities they apply in values education differ significantly according to their gender, marital status, professional seniority, and whether they have received in-service education or not. This research, which aims to reveal the views of teachers on how they implement, manage and evaluate values education, can reveal the effective and incomplete aspects of the values education performed in the RCE course. In this context, it can contribute to the improvement of the values education practices carried out in the DKAB course and the development of the values education program. The study group of the study consists of 1402 secondary school RCE teachers working in secondary schools and imam hatip secondary schools in Kastamonu, Zonguldak, Samsun, Ordu and Trabzon provinces in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 462 RCE teachers who were randomly selected from this universe. The research is descriptive in nature and was carried out in the relational screening model. The data of the research were collected through questionnaire and scale form. In the analysis of the obtained data, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test were used to determine the opinions of teachers in terms of different variables by using the SPSS program. The data of the research were collected through a questionnaire indicating the demographic characteristics of teachers and a scale form related to their views on values education practices. After receiving the approval of the Social and Humanities Research Ethics Committee of Ondokuz Mayıs University for the questionnaire and scale, the application permission was obtained from the Ministry of National Education. The questionnaire and scale forms were sent to the participants electronically and they were asked to answer. The survey and scale data were collected via Google forms. The maximum margin of error in testing the hypotheses was considered to be 0.05. According to the data analysis results, while there was no significant difference in teachers' views on values education in terms of gender variable, there was a significant difference in favor of single teachers in terms of marital status variable and in favor of newly employed teachers according to their professional seniority. However, teachers' views on values education showed significant differences according to their status of receiving any courses, seminars or in-service training related to values education. According to the results obtained, an awareness of values education should be created among teachers by focusing on the importance and necessity of values education. Practical trainings should be given to pre-service and in-service teacher candidates and teachers with rich content on how to plan the values education process and which evaluation activities they can use. This study investigated classroom teachers' cognitive fictions on the concept of value. The sample consisted of 40 primary school classroom teachers using purposive sampling. The study adopted a qualitative phenomenological research design. Data were collected using a Repertory Grid Interview Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using content analysis. Four hundred cognitive fictions were developed and categorized into ten fundamental values theorized by Schwartz. The cognitive fictions were addressed based on participants' gender and training in values education. As a result classroom teachers considered the value groups "achievement", ''conformity'', "self-direction" the most important. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to analyze the texts in the primary school 3rd and 4th grade Turkish textbooks taught by the Ministry of National Education in the 2022-2023 academic year in terms of patriotism value. In the study, qualitative research method was used and the texts were analyzed by document analysis technique. In the data analysis, the attitudes and behaviors associated with the patriotism value by the Board of Education and Discipline constituted the thematic framework. In the study, textbooks of MEB Publications and Gizem Publishing at the 3rd grade level, and textbooks of MEB Publications and Özgün Publishing at the 4th grade level were analyzed. A total of 160 texts were analyzed in the four textbooks and it was observed that 37 of these texts referred to the value of patriotism. The references to the value of patriotism in the texts are similar in terms of the distribution of publishers at both 3rd and 4th grade levels. At the 4th grade level, it was observed that more references were made to the value of patriotism. In addition, in terms of text types, it was observed that 4th grade texts consisted of informative texts more than 3rd grade texts. Finally, regardless of the grade and publishing, it was determined that the texts referring to the value of patriotism were not equally distributed in terms of themes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
