The U.S. state of Missouri contains seven major and numerous lesser Fe oxide deposits within the 1.47 Ga St. Francois Mountains terrane. These deposits have been previously described as iron oxide-apatite (IOA) and iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits and are speculated to contain significant resources of critical minerals, most notably rare earth elements and cobalt. One of the less-studied deposits in the region is the 1.455 Ga Kratz Spring deposit. The deposit consists of two steeply dipping magnetite bodies beneath 450 m of sedimentary cover. The genesis of the Kratz Spring deposit and its relationship to nearby IOA-IOCG deposits remains poorly constrained. To better understand the formation of the Kratz Spring deposit, we integrated stratigraphic, petrographic, and bulk rock studies with in situ trace element and Fe isotope chemistry of magnetite and hematite. Our data show that the Kratz Spring deposit is hydrothermal in origin but is divided into two subdeposits according to different fluid sources and formation conditions: (1) a deep but cooler hydrothermal Kratz Spring South deposit with a juvenile fluid source and (2) a shallow but hotter magmatic-hydrothermal Kratz Spring North deposit with variable fluid sources. Our genetic model suggests the two Kratz Spring deposits are local expressions of the same mineralization system; i.e., the Kratz Spring South deposit is a distal, lower-temperature offshoot of the feeder system that formed the Kratz Spring North deposit. Understanding the magmatic-hydrothermal plumbing system that formed Missouri’s IOA-IOCG deposits is important to guide critical mineral exploration efforts in the region.

BACKGROUND: In 2018, Nigeria accounted for the highest prevalence of malaria worldwide. Pregnant women and children under five years bear the highest risk of malaria. Geographical factors affect utilization of insecticide-treated nets (ITN), yet existing literature have paid little attention to the rural-urban dimension of ITN utilization in Nigeria. This study aimed at investigating the rural-urban variation in ITN utilization among pregnant women in Nigeria using data from the 2018 Demographic and Health Survey. METHODS: A total of 2909 pregnant women were included in the study. The prevalence of ITN utilization for rural and urban pregnant women of Nigeria were presented with descriptive statistics. Chi-square test was employed to assess the association between residence, socio-demographic characteristics and ITN utilization at 95% level of significance. Subsequently, binary logistic regression was used to assess the influence of residence on ITN utilization. RESULTS: Eight out of ten of the rural residents utilized ITN (86.1%) compared with 74.1% among urban residents. Relative to urban pregnant women, those in rural Nigeria had higher odds of utilizing ITNs both in the crude [cOR = 2.17, CI = 1.66-2.84] and adjusted models [aOR = 1.18, CI = 1.05-1.24]. Pregnant women aged 40-44 had lower odds of ITN utilization compared to those aged 15-19 [aOR = 0.63, CI = 0.44-0.92]. Poorer pregnant women had higher odds of ITN utilization compared with poorest pregnant women [aOR = 1.09, CI = 1.04-1.32]. Across regions, those in the south [aOR = 0.26, CI = 0.14-0.49] and south-west [aOR = 0.29, CI = 0.16-0.54] had lower odds of ITN use compared to their counterparts in the north-west region. CONCLUSION: The high use of ITNs among pregnant women in Nigeria may be due to the prioritization of rural communities by previous interventions. This is a dimension worth considering to enhance the attainment of the national anti-malarial initiatives. Since possession of ITN is not a guarantee for utilization, women in urban locations need constant reminder of ITN use through messages delivered at ANC and radio advertisements. Moreover, subsequent mass ITN campaigns ought to take cognizance of variations ITN use across regions and pragmatic steps be taken to increase the availability of ITN in households since there is a moderately high use in households with at least one ITN in Nigeria.

But: relever les différentes étiologies et d’identifier les facteurs déterminants la morbidité et la mortalité en milieu chirurgical rural des péritonites aigues chez l’enfant.Matériel et méthodes: cette étude rétrospective, d’une durée de 24 mois (juin 2014 à juillet 2016) menée à l’hôpital Saint Joseph de Datcha, a concerné tous les patients âgés de moins de 15 ans chez qui le diagnostic de péritonite a été confirmé à la laparotomie.Résultats: elle a concerné 25 enfants des 91 malades opérés pour abdomen chirurgical pendant cette période et 25 malades des 60 cas de péritonite aigue généralisée opérée. La fièvre typhoïde était la première cause avec 60% suivies des appendicites compliquées (16%) et des cholécystites compliquées (8%). La suppuration pariétale reste la 1ère cause de morbidité avec 4 cas des 9 cas de complications observées en postopératoire et les problèmes d’anesthésie et de réanimation étaient le facteur déterminant de la mortalité observée dans 2 cas.Conclusion: les péritonites aigues généralisées constituent un problème quotidien des équipes soins chirurgicales en milieu rural et le problème d’anesthésie-réanimation reste un facteur déterminant de la mortalité.Mots clés: Péritonite, enfantEnglish Title: Acute generalized peritonitis in children in the Hospital Saint Joseph Dacha: specific etiological and morbidity and mortality of about 25 casesEnglish AbstractPurpose: Meeting the different etiologies and identify the determinants of morbidity and mortality in surgical acute peritonitis rural children.Materials and Methods: This retrospective study lasting 24 months (June 2010-July 2012) conducted at Saint Joseph Hospital Datcha, concerned all patients aged under 15 years in whom the diagnosis of peritonitis was confirmed at laparotomy. Results: it involved 25 children of 91 patients operated on for abdominal surgery during this period, 25 patients of 60 cases of acute generalized peritonitis surgery. Typhoid fever was the leading cause with 60% followed by complicated appendicitis (16%) and complicated cholecystitis (8%). Parietal suppuration remains the first cause of morbidity with 4 cases of 9 cases of postoperative complications observed and problems of anesthesia and resuscitation were the determinant of mortality observed in 2 cases.Conclusion: Acute generalized peritonitis is a daily problem of surgical care teams in rural areas and the issue of Anesthesiology is a determinant of mortality.Keywords: Peritonitis, child

Background: cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) is one of the cellular transcription factors found in neurons. CREB is also important for the survival of neurons, and has an important role in the development of drug addiction. Datura stramonium (DS) is a tropical ubiquitous plant commonly used to increase the intoxication of certain beverages for recreational purposes. The seeds of this plant are very toxic and may produce addiction on prolong usage. This research investigated the effects of administration of high doses of DS seeds on the expression of CREB protein in both male and female rats’ frontal cortices and its implication in addiction and neurodegeneration. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted with a total of 24 male and female Wistar rats weighing 200 g - 250 g. The rats were divided into three groups of 8 rats each. Each group was further divided into four sub-groups of 2 rats each. Ethanolic dried seed extract of DS was diluted in normal saline and administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) to the treatment groups. The treated sub-groups received 750 mg/kg of DS extract once in group 1, twice in group 2 and thrice in group 3 daily for 4 weeks respectively, while the control sub-groups received i.p. normal saline concurrently for the same duration of time. The rats were euthanized and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) was computed to detect a significant main difference of DS effect on CREB expression for each group, while post hoc Bonferroni Test compared CREB protein expression between male and female groups. Result: There were significant differences in the expression of CREB protein between the sub-groups and between the male and female rats of treated sub-group (p DS administration for a prolong time may affect the expressions of CREB protein differently in male and female treated rats which may consequently lead to addiction and neurodegeneration affecting frontal cortex neurons.

The effectiveness of strategies targeting professional integration and reintegration strongly depends on the experiences of participants. The aim of this systematic literature review is to synthesize European qualitative studies exploring views and experiences of persons with chronic conditions regarding strategies for integration and reintegration into work. The systematic search was conducted in Medline, PsycINFO, CDR-HTA, CDR-DARE and Cochrane Systematic Reviews. Overall, 24 studies published in English between January 2011 and April 2016 were included. Most studies were carried out in Nordic countries or in the UK, and most participants were persons with either mental or musculoskeletal disorders. Ten themes emerged: individual and holistic approach, clarity of strategy and processes, timing of rehabilitation processes, experience with professionals, at the workplace and with peer groups, changes in the understanding of health and work, active involvement in the process, competencies development and motivating aspects of work. Findings highlight, among others, the need to actively involve participants in the return to work process and to provide timely and clearly structured processes and interventions. This review provides stakeholders key information to develop, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to integrate and re-integrate persons with chronic conditions into work in Europe.

Due to low employment rates associated to chronic conditions in Europe, it is essential to foster effective integration and re-integration into work strategies. The objective of this systematic review is to summarize the evidence on the effectiveness of strategies for integration and re-integration to work for persons with chronic diseases or with musculoskeletal disorders, implemented in Europe in the past five years. A systematic search was conducted in MedLine, PsycINFO, CDR-HTA, CDR-DARE and Cochrane Systematic Reviews. Overall, 32 relevant publications were identified. Of these, 21 were considered eligible after a methodological assessment and included. Positive changes in employment status, return to work and sick leave outcomes were achieved with graded sickness-absence certificates, part-time sick leave, early ergonomic interventions for back pain, disability evaluation followed by information and advice, and with multidisciplinary, coordinated and tailored return to work interventions. Additionally, a positive association between the co-existence of active labour market policies to promote employment and passive support measures (e.g., pensions or benefits) and the probability of finding a job was observed. Research on the evaluation of the effectiveness of strategies targeting integration and re-integration into work for persons with chronic health conditions needs, however, to be improved and strengthened.

Datura Stramonium (DS) is a tropical shrub which is available worldwide. It has various uses and is often used to increase the intoxication of certain beverages. The seeds of this plant are very toxic but are commonly smoked in like manner as tobacco. The present study investigated the potential harmful effects of DS on pyramidal cells and CREB protein in the hippocampus of Wistar rats in order to further elucidate the effects of DS seed extract on hippocampal structure. The study was conducted on both male and female Wistar rats (200-250 g). They were first divided into three batches, which were further sub-divided into four groups in each batch with eight animals per group. Ethanolic extract of dried seeds of DS was diluted in normal saline and given to the treatment groups. The treated groups received intraperitoneal administration (i.p.) of 750 mg kg-1 (Bania et al., 2004) of diluted DS seed extracts, once in batch 1, twice in batch 2 and thrice in batch 3 per day respectively for 4 weeks while the control groups received an equivalent of normal saline. The rats were euthanized and Western blot analysis used to evaluate the levels of CREB protein in the rats’ hippocampi. Sections of each hippocampus were histologically processed in all the groups and silver impregnation stain for degenerating axons and neurons was used to elucidate the actions of DS on the pyramidal neurons of the hippocampus. The result of i.p. administration of DS extract (750 mg kg-1) given three times per day to the treated rats showed significant histological changes such as axonal atrophy, cytoplasmic vacuolation and neuronal necrosis of the pyramidal cells of the hippocampus, as well as an increase in CREB protein levels in both male and female rats. Excessive ingestion of DS seeds, therefore, may lead to hippocampal pyramidal cell losses and an increase in CREB protein levels in the hippocampus. This may be implicated in neurological disorders.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of adjunctive rectal misoprostol compared to oxytocin infusion in the prevention of primary postpartum hemorrhage after routine active management of the third stage of labor in women with identifiable risk factors for uterine atony. Material and Methods: A double-blind randomized controlled trial was carried out at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. A total of 264 parturients with known risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage were randomized to receive either rectal misoprostol (600 µg; n = 132) or oxytocin infusion (20 IU in 500 mL; n = 132) after routine active management of the third stage of labor. Intrapartum blood loss was measured using a combination of the BRASSS-V calibrated drapes and differential pad weighing. Hematocrit was measured intrapartum and 24 h postpartum. Results: There was no significant difference (P = 0.07) in the mean intrapartum blood loss between the misoprostol (387.28 ± 203.09 mL) and oxytocin (386.73 ± 298.51 mL) groups. There was also no difference in the requirement for additional intervention for uterine atony (P = 0.74). Postpartum hematocrit drop and blood transfusion were, however, significantly less in the misoprostol group. Conclusion: Rectal misoprostol is as effective as oxytocin infusion as an adjunct for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage in women with risk factors for uterine atony and is associated with a lower hematocrit drop and blood transfusion postpartum. However, shivering, pyrexia and vomiting are more frequent with misoprostol, though usually self-limited.

In this study, we aimed to experimentally evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of hydro-ethanolic extract in animal models of inflammation and nociception and membrane stabilization assay.

Two rhetorical structural types, characterised as WH-ASK and NPWH-LET constructions, derived from the Yoruba praise and incantatory poetic tradition, are identified in Niyi Osundare’s poetry. The syntax, though distinct and unique, does not violate the combinatory possibilities of English. Breaking no rules of the syntax of English, the syntagmatic patterns inevitably draw attention to themselves as characteristic habits of thought and modes of expression of the Yoruba people. The syntactorhetorical borrowing from Yoruba poetry represents the poet’s efforts at “domesticating” English or making it carry the “weight” of his Yoruba experience. The paper identifies a profound and highly rewarding interaction between the lexical and syntactic arrangements in the poet’s creative works, pointing out that no investigation of the oral dimension of his poetry should ignore the structural paradigm.
