Abstract

Chemical research has established the structure and magnetic characteristics of the six dinuclear Cu(II)/Gd(III) complexes (Ln = Pr, Eu, Gd and Yb). Ferromagnetic interaction is measured between 4.8 and 7.0 centimeters (super -1). The synthetic pathway of the dinuclear complexes, involving the precursor bis(3-methoxysalicylaldehydato)copper (II), is described.

Abstract

A new method for measuring the diffusion length of minority carriers within the plane of a p-n junction diode is described. It is based on the measurements of the photovoltage between the p- and n-layers, when the diode is illuminated by an interference pattern through a window between contacts 1 and 2 on the top surface of the diode. The advantage is that the voltage between a top contact and a bottom contact is independent of the possible differences in the characteristics of the two ohmic contacts on the top of the sample.

Abstract

Preparation and study of the crystal structure and magnetic characteristics of (Mn2(mu - O)2(mu - OAc)(H2O)2(bipy)2)(ClO4)3).H2O provides one of the feeblest antiferromagnetic interaction established for a bis-(mu - oxo)-bridged Mn(sub 2)(super IV) species. ClO4 anions and a molecule of water of crystallization separate the binuclear (Mn(sub 2 )(super IV)(mu - O)2(mu-OAc)((H2O)2(bipy)2)(3+) cations in the structure.

Abstract

The first structurally characterized example of a heterodimetallic lanthanide complex is presented. The synthetic route involves a tripodal ligand with imine linkers, which offers 10 potential coordination sites all employed to encapsulate two identical or different lanthanide ions. The tripodal ligand is also capable to support a magnetic interaction between the two lanthanide ions. The approach proves to be a general route for preparing homo- and heterodinuclear complexes.

5. How creditor rights matter for debt finance: a review of empirical evidence

Abstract

The chapter reviews evidence from a new generation of empirical studies, largely focusing on within-country effects, that seek to measure the impact of reforms to creditor rights on access to credit, both on the recovery of debt and rescue of businesses (ex post), but also on the level of credit made available to business and the terms (ex ante). The studies show that effective reform of creditor rights is associated with a lower cost of credit, increased access to credit, improved creditor recovery, and strengthened job preservation. A country’s creditor rights regime plays an important role in mitigating investor risk, which in turn contributes to the improved access and cost of credit and increased financial stability in a country.

Abstract

There is increasing interest in the magnetic behaviour of complexes containing f and d ions, with particular emphasis on the Gd(III)-Cu(II) couple. It has been demonstrated that ferromagnetism is an intrinsic property of the Gd(III)-Cu(II) pair. A structurally characterized example of a discrete dinuclear Gd(III)-Ni(II) complex showing ferromagnetic behaviour is the result of current experiments.
