The lifetime of a hydrogen bond between water and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is found to be considerably longer than that between two water molecules in neat water. This is counter-intuitive because the charge on the oxygen in DMSO is considerably less than that in water. Additionally, the strength of the water–dimethyl sulfoxide (w–D) hydrogen bond is found to be strongly composition dependent; the lifetime of the hydrogen bond is ten times larger at 30% than at very low concentrations. Using computer simulations, we perform microscopic structural and dynamic analysis to find that these anomalies arise at least partly from an "action-at-a-distance" effect where the attraction between the hydrophobic methyl groups results in the self-aggregation of DMSO molecules that "cages" both the rotational and linear motions of the molecules involved. This is reflected in the observed strong correlation of the lifetime with the local coordination number of the associated methyl groups. The elongated w–D h-bond lifetime causes a slowdown of collective dynamics and affects the lifetime of the w–w h-bond. This nonlinear feedback mechanism explains the strong composition dependence of viscosity and is anticipated to play a dominant role in many self-assemblies. Furthermore, the w–D hydrogen bond breaking mechanism changes from low to high DMSO concentration, a phenomenon not anticipated a priori. We introduce a new order parameter-based free energy surface of the bond breaking pathway. We study, through molecular dynamics simulations, three aqueous solutions with one lysozyme protein and three different concentrations of trehalose and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). We analyze the structural and dynamical properties of the protein hydration water upon cooling. We find that trehalose plays a major role in modifying the structure of the network of HBs between water molecules in the hydration layer of the protein. The dynamics of hydration water presents, in addition to the α-relaxation, typical of glass formers, a slower long-time relaxation process, which greatly slows down the dynamics of water, particularly in the systems with trehalose, where it becomes dominant at low temperatures. In all the solutions, we observe, from the behavior of the α-relaxation times, a shift of the Mode Coupling Theory crossover temperature and the fragile-to-strong crossover temperature toward higher values with respect to bulk water. We also observe a strong-to-strong crossover from the temperature behavior of the long-relaxation times. In the aqueous solution with only DMSO, the transition shifts to a lower temperature than in the case with only lysozyme reported in the literature. We observe that the addition of trehalose to the mixture has the opposite effect of restoring the original location of the strong-to-strong crossover. In all the solutions analyzed in this work, the observed temperature of the protein dynamical transition is slightly shifted at lower temperatures than that of the strong-to-strong crossover, but their relative order is the same, showing a correlation between the motion of the protein and that of the hydration water. Potential applications of previously synthesized pillared graphene oxide frameworks with phenyldiboronic acid linkers in the field of the adsorption and separation of polar protic and aprotic liquid solvents have been systematically explored using grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations. Particular attention was initially paid to the adsorption of pure liquid water, methanol, and dimethyl sulfoxide. The results obtained a significant increase in the isosteric heat of adsorption at low uptake in the case of dimethyl sulfoxide, which is about 17.9 and 26.8 kJ/mol higher than the values corresponding to methanol and water adsorption. These findings indicated that from a thermodynamic point of view, these pillared graphene oxide frameworks could be used in the separation of dimethyl sulfoxide–water liquid mixtures. Systematic grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations were then subsequently performed for dimethyl sulfoxide–water mixtures, with a low dimethyl sulfoxide concentration. The calculated values of the separation selectivity indicate that these materials could have potential applications in the separation of these mixed liquid solvents. Advances in cryobiology techniques commonly target either the cooling or the warming cycle, while little thought has been given to ≪repair≫ protocols applicable during cold storage. In particular, crystallization is the dominant threat to cryopreserved samples but proceeds from small nuclei that are innocuous if further growth is forestalled. To this end, we propose a laser editing technique that locally heats individual crystals above their melting point by a focused nanosecond pulse, followed by amorphization during rapid resolidification. As a reference, we first apply the approach to ice crystals in cryoprotected solution and use Raman confocal mapping to study the deactivation of crystalline order. Then, we examine dimethyl sulfoxide trihydrate crystals that can germinate at low temperatures in maximally freeze concentrated regions, as commonly produced by equilibrium cooling protocols. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique has been widely applied to biosensing technologies for the rapid quantification of biomolecules without enzyme and fluorescent labeling. However, the conventional prism-coupling SPR method generally has a detection area of a few mm2, and the large contribution of the background signal forms a barrier to highly sensitive detection. Based on a highly spatially resolved SPR method, the present study constructed a scanning GC-SPR imaging instrument using an objective lens with a high numerical aperture and a plasmonic chip that could be used for grating-coupled SPR. Focusing light on the diffraction limit can suppress background signals and improve detection sensitivity. SPR imaging can also be performed by scanning a focal spot. Using this method, the refractive index of a mixture of water and dimethyl sulfoxide was measured with a detection accuracy of 2.43 × 10−3 RIU. Polydopamine films prepared with a thickness of <5 nm were also measured, and each film thickness was evaluated with high sensitivity from the effective refractive index detected in a small area of <1 µm2. Two-dimensional terahertz–infrared–visible (2D TIRV) spectroscopy directly measures the coupling between quantum high-frequency vibrations and classical low-frequency modes of molecular motion. In addition to coupling strength, the signal intensity in 2D TIRV spectroscopy can also depend on the selection rules of the excited transitions. Here, we explore the selection rules in 2D TIRV spectroscopy by studying the coupling between the high-frequency CH3 stretching and low-frequency vibrations of liquid dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Different excitation pathways are addressed using variations in laser pulse timing and different polarizations of exciting pulses and detected signals. The DMSO signals generated via different excitation pathways can be readily distinguished in the spectrum. The intensities of different excitation pathways vary unequally with changes in polarization. We explain how this difference stems from the intensities of polarized and depolarized Raman and hyper-Raman spectra of high-frequency modes. Borneol is a natural monoterpene with significant applications in various industries, including medicine and perfumery. It presents several diastereomers with different physical and chemical properties, influenced by their unique structures and interactions with molecular receptors. However, a complete description of its inherent structure and solvent interactions remains elusive. Here, we report a detailed investigation of the gas-phase experimental structures of borneol and isoborneol, along with the description of their microsolvation complexes with the common solvents water and dimethyl sulfoxide. The molecules and complexes were studied using chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy coupled to a supersonic expansion source. Although three rotamers are potentially populated under the conditions of the supersonic expansion, only one of them was observed for each monomer. The examination of the monohydrated complexes revealed structures stabilized by hydrogen bonds and non-covalent C–H⋯O interactions, with water as the hydrogen bond donor. Interestingly, in the clusters with dimethyl sulfoxide, borneol and isoborneol change their roles acting as donors. We further identified a higher-energy rotamer of the borneol monomer in one of the complexes with dimethyl sulfoxide, while that rotamer was missing in the experiment for the monomer. This observation is not common and highlights a specific position in borneol especially favorable for forming stable complexes, which could have implications in the understanding of the unique physical and chemical properties of the diastereomers. The returning probability (RP) theory, a rigorous diffusion-influenced reaction theory, enables us to analyze the binding process systematically in terms of thermodynamics and kinetics using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Recently, the theory was extended to atomistically describe binding processes by adopting the host–guest interaction energy as the reaction coordinate. The binding rate constants can be estimated by computing the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the reactive state existing in the binding processes. Here, we propose a methodology based on the RP theory in conjunction with the energy representation theory of solution, applicable to complex binding phenomena, such as protein–ligand binding. The derived scheme of calculating the equilibrium constant between the reactive and dissociate states, required in the RP theory, can be used for arbitrary types of reactive states. We apply the present method to the bindings of small fragment molecules [4-hydroxy-2-butanone (BUT) and methyl methylthiomethyl sulphoxide (DSS)] to FK506 binding protein (FKBP) in an aqueous solution. Estimated binding rate constants are consistent with those obtained from long-timescale MD simulations. Furthermore, by decomposing the rate constants to the thermodynamic and kinetic contributions, we clarify that the higher thermodynamic stability of the reactive state for DSS causes the faster binding kinetics compared with BUT. Porous alumina structures were developed by indirect Powder Bed Fusion with Laser Beam (PBF-LB), employing a novel feedstock (composite granules) based on alumina (Al 2 O 3), bio-renewable polyamide 612 (PA612), and micron-sized graphite (MG) using a commercial PBF-LB machine that operates with a low-power visible light diode laser. Regular and slightly rounded composite granules were prepared via the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) using 0.05 vol% of PA612, 40/60 vol% of Al 2 O 3 /PA612 and 6.25 wt% of MG, and then characterized via density measurements, Hausner's ratio, SEM-EDS, particle size distribution, Raman spectroscopy, DSC, and TGA. Experimental conditions to be used in the PBF-LB process were determined in order to obtain high-quality green porous structures with a controlled geometry. After the heating treatments, sintered components with good structural integrity, a high open porosity associated with interconnected pores in the struts, and a ceramic matrix with microsized-equiaxial grains were obtained. The evaluation of the mechanical properties was performed by diametral compression testing. In order to improve these properties, a vacuum infiltration process involving a low-concentration alumina-ethanol suspension was used on pre-sintered discs. A newly designed tetracarboxylic acid ligand precursor 5,5'-([9,9'-bianthracene]-10,10'-diyl)diisophthalic acid (H4BADI) has been used to prepare a series of copper-based metal--organic frameworks (MOFs) with the formula [Cu2(BADI)(S)2]•xS (denoted as 1-S, where S = solvent) and exhibiting solvent-induced structural transformations. Single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation occurs upon exchanging 1-DMF (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) with DMSO (DMSO = dimethylsulfoxide). 1-DMF exhibits reversible structural transformation upon treatment with a variety of solvents; of particular interest is the reversible crystalline-to-amorphous phase transformations observed upon exchange with volatile, polar solvents. A thorough structural investigation of the three framework isomers characterized via single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments is reported and compared to several other tetracarboxylate-based MOFs composed of dimetal secondary building units. Copper(I) thiocyanate (CuSCN) is a prominent wide‐bandgap p‐type semiconductor with desirable transparency and chemical robustness. Whereas intrinsic limitations, such as its relatively low Fermi level (EF) and modest electrical conductivity, have impeded its broader application in organic solar cells (OSCs). This study introduces a novel approach to modify the electronic properties of CuSCN by inducing copper vacancies through the use of specific solvent mixtures, thereby enhancing its suitability for OSCs. The effects of two solvent mixtures, methanol/ammonia (CH3OH/NH4OH) and dimethyl sulfoxide/N,N‐Dimethylformamide (DMSO/DMF) is have systematically investigated, on the CuSCN layer. The findings reveal that these solvent systems induce a higher concentration of copper vacancies within the CuSCN film, resulting in a significant reduction of the EF and a substantial increase in electrical conductivity. These modifications have led to the improved energy level alignment with the PM6:L8‐BO:BTP‐eC9 blended photoactive layers, culminating in a marked enhancement of the power‐conversion efficiencies of 19.10% for the DMSO/DMF processed CuSCN layer. Additionally, it has observed enhanced shelf/thermal stability and thickness tolerance of OSCs based on these CuSCN films. This work not only presents a novel strategy for modifying the performance characteristics of CuSCN but also underscores its potential to contribute to the advancement of photovoltaic technologies. The preservation of microorganisms is pivotal in microbiological practice. Currently, cryopreservation is assumed to be an effective and inexpensive approach for the storage of microorganisms, including bacteria. The key point of cryopreservation is optimal cryoprotectant selection. In the present study, different cryoprotectant compositions were tested for long-term storage of 15 Enterobacterales bacterial strains at − 20 °C. The survival rates of the bacterial strains were evaluated in four different cryoprotectant solutions containing 70% glycerin only (cryoprotectants 1 and 4), 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with 70% glycerin (cryoprotectant 2), and 10% DMSO (cryoprotectant 3). In addition, cryoprotectants 1 and 2 contained peptone and yeast extract as nutritional supplements. The general survival rates of the bacterial strains were evaluated after 12 months of storage. After 12 months, the survival rates of the different cryoprotectants were as follows: cryoprotectant 1—88.87%; cryoprotectant 2—84.85%; cryoprotectant 3—83.50%; and cryoprotectant 4—44.81%. Thus, the composition of cryoprotectant 1 (70% glycerin with nutrient supplements) was optimal for preserving 15 tested strains of the order Enterobacterales. Despite these findings, the biochemical properties of the tested strains changed after cryopreservation for 12 months in the presence of 1 or 3 cryoprotectants. Alterations in the biochemical profile could be related to changes in environmental conditions and cold adaptation. We assume that the composition of cryoprotectant 1 can be optimal for storing the order Enterobacterales at − 20 °C. An engineered tetra‐amide macrocycle is presented, and its conformation and anion recognition properties are investigated. The tetra‐amide macrocycle 1, containing the m‐amino benzoic acid, 1,3‐benzenedicarboxylic acid and m‐xylenedinediamine adopts an envelope‐like conformation in solid‐state, where the m‐xylenedinediamine ring is perpendicular with the molecular plain. The tetra‐amide macrocycle 1 is able to bind anions such as halides, sulphate and phosphate in DMSO (dimethyl sulphoxide) solution. The stabilities of the fluoride (2.6×103 M−1) and chloride (5.6×102 M−1) complexes of 1 in DMSO is higher than that of bromide (66 M−1) and iodide (52 M−1). SO42− complexes of 1 in DMSO is more stable than the HSO4−, NO3− and H2PO4− complexes. Using this information, a quantitative evaluation of the stability of the 1 : 1 complex of 1, for which overall binding energy in the order −123.98 kcal/mol for SO42−was calculated. The strong binding affinity of the tetra‐amide macrocycle 1 toward the SO42− ion can be explained on the basis of non‐covalant interaction like ion−dipole interaction, hydrogen bonding interaction and size selectivity. In this study, three Gemini cationic surfactants related to thiazol-2-amine with three hydrocarbon chain lengths including 3-hexylthiazol-3-ium (TAC6), 3-dodecylthiazol-3-ium (TAC12) and octadecylthiazol3-ium (TAC18) were prepared. Surfactant structures were confirmed with IR and 1HNMR Spectroscopies. Critical micelle concentrations for all surfactants in 15% DMSO-Water solvent were measured using conductometric, refractometric, and densitometric techniques. Thermodynamics parameters were computed and explained. Also, enhancing properties of all surfactants were indicated under the effect of two concentrations, 0.001 M and 0.01 M, of six inorganic salts including Cl−, Br−, I−, Co+2, Cu+2, and Mn+2 radicals using conductivity and refractive index measurements. All techniques used to measure critical micelles concentration showed a good convergence in measuring CMC values and the behavior of all surfactants in 15% DMSO-water solvent. Increasing the binding constant of the counter ion and association constant reflects the effect of hydrocarbon chain length increment on enhancing micelle formation, where TAC 18 was shown as the lowest CMC in all applied measurements. Modeling the density of all surfactant solutions under study indicates an increase in hydrophobic polarizability with an increase in the molecular weight of the surfactant. Inorganic salts decreased the CMC of all surfactants with the increase in Gibbs free energy of micellization which ensures easier formation of more stable micelles in the presence of a salt solution. The effect of salts on decreasing CMC for all surfactants under study was arranged in the following order: Mn+2 < Cu+2 < Co+2 for cationic radicals and I− < Br− < Cl− for anionic radicals. In the present study, bioactive compounds, including chlorophyll a and c1 + c2, carotenoids, fucoxanthin, and total phenols, were extracted from Dictyota ceylanica and Dictyota cervicornis using various solvents to evaluate their in vitro antioxidant activities. Species-specific and solvent-specific differences (p < 0.05) were observed for those compounds. D. ceylanica yielded high chlorophyll a (2.083 mg/g) and carotenoids (0.672 mg/g) in acetone, whereas D. cervicornis showed a maximum of chlorophyll c1 + c2 (1.134 mg/g) and fucoxanthin (0.803 mg/g) in dimethyl sulfoxide. D. cervicornis was found to have a significant amount of total phenols (583.46 mg GAE/100 g), DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) scavenging activity (39.85%), ferric reducing antioxidant power activity (472.81 mg TE/100 g), and total antioxidant activity (1037.52 mg AAE/100 g) in the water extract. The Pearson's correlation and R2 value revealed that chlorophyll a, chlorophyll c1 + c2, carotenoids, fucoxanthin, and total phenols are highly responsible for the remarkable antioxidant activities in D. ceylanica and D. cervicornis. Two complexes of Sn (IV), Sn (IV)‐TSC 1 and Sn (IV)‐TSC 2, with the ligands 4‐(2,4‐dimethylphenyl)‐1‐([pyridin‐2‐yl]methylene)thiosemicarbazide (TSC 1) and 4‐(2,5‐dimethoxyphenyl)‐1‐([pyridin‐2‐yl]methylene)thiosemicarbazide (TSC 2) were synthesized. X‐ray crystallographic investigation of Sn (IV)‐TSC 2 afforded valuable information on its octahedral geometry, monoclinic lattice and C 1 2/c 1 space group. The ligands are monoanionic tridentate via a deprotonated thiol sulfur atom and two nitrogen atoms of pyridine and azomethine moieties. These atoms coordinate tin alongside three independent chlorine atoms making the tin atoms in the complexes tetravalent, despite of incorporating tin (II) chloride in the reactions. Solutions of the ligands TSC 1 and TSC 2 (20 mg/ml in dimethyl sulfoxide) induced growth inhibitions only to Staphylococcus aureus (14 and 10 mm) and Escherichia coli (15 and 10 mm) bacteria. But the complexes displayed activities against four bacterial species, that is, S. aureus, E. coli, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (complex Sn (IV)‐TSC 1, complex Sn (IV)‐TSC 2 and ampicillin showed inhibition diameters with 12–14, 13–14 and 21–26 mm). All TSC ligands and coordination compounds induced cytotoxicity in MCF‐7 cancer and BHK normal cells. The compounds TSC 1, TSC 2, Sn (IV)‐TSC 1, Sn (IV)‐TSC 2 and doxorubicin inhibited the MCF‐7 (BHK) cells with IC50 values of 68.9 (126.6), 145.4 (110.6), 22.6 (16.7), 34.2 (16.1) and 9.66 (36.42) μM, respectively. A sensor based on graphite nanosheets was fabricated through the electrochemical expansion of a graphite electrode in dimethyl sulfoxide for the sensitive electrochemical determination of enrofloxacin. The modified electrode surface exhibited a distinctive structure of nanoplates, characterized by layer thickness ranging from a few nanometers to ten nanometers. The developed electrode displayed notable electrochemical properties, including a faster charge transfer rate and a larger electrochemically active surface area, which was 1.3 times greater compared to the unmodified electrode. As a result, the sensor improved square wave voltammetric signals for enrofloxacin, exhibiting a 2.4-fold enhancement compared to the unmodified electrode. By optimizing the experimental parameters such as electrode fabrication conditions, pH of analytical solution, and adsorption time for enrofloxacin, the sensor demonstrated good reproducibility and a strong linear correlation over two ranges of enrofloxacin concentrations from 0.05–0.15 μM and 0.1–20 μM. The limit of detection was determined to be 0.002 μM. The sensor was successfully employed for the determination of enrofloxacin in spiked surface water samples before and after treating enrofloxacin by a photocatalytic method. The obtained results exhibited consistency with those obtained using a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry reference method, and a high recovery rate of 105.5% further confirmed the reliability of the proposed method for enrofloxacin detection. Quasi‐tetrahedral o‐azophenylboronic acid (azoB‐ROH), which contains the protic solvent ROH, is a key species in the colorimetric sensing of saccharides by o‐azophenylboronic acid (azoB). In this study, we compared the reactivity of azoB‐ROH with that of trigonal azoB and tetrahedral o‐azophenylboronate (azoB‐OH−), and clarified the reaction mechanism of azoB‐ROH with cis‐1,2‐cyclopentanediol and D‐glucose. Analysis of the kinetics of the reactions of azoB with cis‐1,2‐cyclopentanediol and D‐glucose in DMSO:water = 1:9 and azoB with cis‐1,2‐cyclopentanediol in tetrahydrofuran containing a small amount of methanol revealed that there was not much difference in the reactivity of azoB‐H2O and azoB‐OH−, although the reactivity of azoB was higher than that of azoB‐MeOH, that is, the reaction mechanism of azoB‐H2O was essentially the same as that of azoB‐OH−. The density (ρ) and dynamic viscosity (η) values of the binary mixed solution (ethylene glycol propyl ether (2-PE) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)) with different concentrations were measured by Ubbelohde viscometer (0.8–0.9 mm in diameter) and 25 mL pycnometer at atmospheric pressure and 293.15–318.15 K of the temperature. According to the ρ and η values, the viscosity deviation (), excess molar volume (), partial molar volume ( , ), apparent molar volume ( , ), excess Gibbs energy of activation for viscous flow (), and thermal expansion coefficient () of the mixed solution were obtained by the calculation method. In addition, the intermolecular forces between 2-PE and DMSO were analyzed by infrared spectra (FTIR), ultraviolet spectra (UV–Vis) and fluorescence spectra. The results showed that hydrogen bond is formed between the hydrogen atom on hydroxyl of 2-PE and oxygen atom of DMSO, and the hydrogen bond affects the physical properties of the binary system. For many cancer patients tumor burden negatively impacts quality of life due to associated pain onset. Neuropathic pain is commonly associated with late cancer stages, and is resultant of tumor metastasis to bone, herein referred to as cancer-induced bone pain. Given the severe impact on quality of life and clinical treatment strategies focusing on symptom management, novel therapeutics are needed to alleviate cancer-induced bone pain and/or reduce cancer burden. In the current study we characterized a commercially available murine fibrosarcoma cell line, NCTC-2472 in vitro, which can be used to assess the capacity of novel compounds to impact cellular viability. We found that dimethyl sulfoxide, a known cytotoxic agent and common drug preparation compound, significantly decreased cell viability in a dose-related manner. We then characterized the in vivo tumor development and associated pain behavior characteristics following implantation of NCTC-2472 fibrosarcoma into male and female C3H/HeJ mice. The C3H/HeJ strain was utilized as these mice are syngeneic with NCTC-2472 fibrosarcoma and their use reduces potential implantation failure. We found that tumor development in mice resulted in the development of mechanical allodynia but not thermal hyperalgesia. Gabapentin, a clinically relevant analgesic, produced dose-related mechanical allodynia reversal. Background: Failure of treatment with gemcitabine in most cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) patients is due to drug resistance. The therapeutic potential of natural plant secondary compounds with minimal toxicity, such as cannabidiol (CBD), is a promising line of investigation in gemcitabine-resistant CCA. We aim to investigate the effects of CBD on gemcitabine-resistant CCA (KKU-213BGemR) cells in vitro and in vivo. Materials: In vitro, cell proliferation, colony formation, apoptosis and cell cycle arrest were assessed using MTT assay, clonogenicity assay and flow cytometry. The effect of CBD on ROS production was evaluated using the DCFH-DA fluorescent probe. The mechanism exerted by CBD on ER stress-associated apoptosis was investigated by western blot analysis. A gemcitabine-resistant CCA xenograft model was also used and the expression of PCNA and CHOP were evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis. Results: The IC50 values of CBD for KKU-213BGemR cells ranged from 19.66 to 21.05 µM. For a non-cancerous immortalized fibroblast cell line, relevant values were 18.29 to 19.21 µM. CBD suppressed colony formation by KKU-213BGemR cells in a dose-dependent manner in the range of 10 to 30 µM. CBD at 30 µM significantly increased apoptosis at early (16.37%) (P = 0.0024) and late (1.8%) stages (P < 0.0001), for a total of 18.17% apoptosis (P = 0.0017), in part by increasing ROS production (P < 0.0001). Multiphase cell cycle arrest significantly increased at G0/G1 with CBD 10 and 20 µM (P = 0.004 and P = 0.017), and at G2/M with CBD 30 µM (P = 0.005). CBD treatment resulted in increased expression of ER stress-associated apoptosis proteins, including p-PERK, BiP, ATF4, CHOP, BAX, and cytochrome c. In xenografted mouse, CBD significantly suppressed tumors at 10 and 40 mg/kg·Bw (P = 0.0007 and P = 0.0278, respectively), which was supported by an increase in CHOP, but a decrease in PCNA expression in tumor tissues (P < 0.0001). Conclusion: The results suggest that CBD exhibits potent anti-cancer activity against gemcitabine-resistant CCA in vitro and in vivo, in part via ER stress-mediated mechanisms. Taking iodine-peroxide and diphenyldiselelen ether as raw materials, dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent, ammonium iodide and potassium tert-butoxide as catalysts, C Se bond coupling was formed at room temperature, and 11 selenium aryl peroxides were synthesized. By using HNMR spectroscopy, CNMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, the products were characterized and analyzed separately. Through a series of control experiments, the reaction was determined to be ionic and the corresponding reaction mechanism was inferred. In this work, a novel colorimetric chemosensor (BIAD) containing azo chromophore, 1,5dihydroxynaphthalene, and benzimidazole was synthesized and characterized by using IR, 1H,13C NMR, and mass spectral data, and elemental analysis. The cation recognition studies (including fourteen metal cations) exhibited that the synthesized azo dye can act as a rapid, sensitive, and selective colorimetric chemosensor for detecting Cu2+ ions. The addition of Cu2+ ions to the BIAD solution, changed immediately the solution color from purple to blue‐green, which could be observed by the naked eye. Comparison of the UV/Visible spectra of BIAD and (BIAD+Cu2+) revealed a red shift from 543 nm to 616 nm, which confirms the formation of a complex between Cu2+ cations and BIAD molecules. The result of Job's plot indicated that the stoichiometry binding ratio of BIAD to Cu2+ is 1 : 1. The limit of detection (LOD) was found for BIAD toward Cu2+ ion to be 0.10 μM. Tin (Sn)–lead (Pb) mixed perovskite solar cells (PSCs) stand out as the optimal choice for the bottom subcell of the all‐perovskite tandem solar cells. One of the major challenges impeding the further enhancement of Sn–Pb mixed PSCs power conversion efficiency (PCE) is the easy oxidation of Sn2+ to Sn4+ and a large number of Sn vacancies in the perovskite films. In this work, the sources of Sn2+ oxidation in the perovskite precursor solution are systematically investigated, focusing on the oxidation state of raw materials, solvent‐dissolved oxygen, and solvent oxidizing ability. It is discovered that compared to the commonly used dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent, N, N'‐Dimethylpropyleneurea (DMPU) exhibits a weaker oxidizing ability while forming excellent coordination with the perovskite precursor. Using a mixed solvent of N, N‐Dimethylformamide (DMF), and DMPU as the precursor solvent not only obviates the need for additional antioxidants but also demonstrates reduced oxidation susceptibility toward Sn–Pb mixed perovskite. Utilizing a gas‐assisted technique without anti‐solvents, high‐efficiency Sn–Pb mixed PSCs are fabricated. These findings not only deepen the understanding of the oxidation phenomena in Sn–Pb perovskite precursor solutions but also provide essential guidance for the scalable production of Sn–Pb mixed PSCs and tandem solar cells. In the first part of this study, the electrochemical polymerization of two compounds, 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 2′,6′-dihydroxyacetophenone, was compared in dimethyl sulfoxide solvent on platinum and glassy carbon electrodes. The voltammograms obtained showed remarkable differences between the two monomers and between the two electrode materials. The acetophenone derivative formed electropolymer remnants at the electrodes, while in the case of the benzoic acid derivative, practically no passivation occurred, and the scanning electron microscopic results reinforced this. A few stackings adsorbed only after electropolymerization from a highly concentrated solution of dihydroxybenzoic acid. As a modifying layer on the platinum and glassy carbon electrodes, the prepared films from 2′,6′-dihydroxyacetophenone were tested for tributylamine in acetonitrile and in an aqueous solution of a redox-active compound, hydroquinone, during the stirring of the solution. More stable amperometric current signals could be reached with modified platinum than with glassy carbon, and the significant influence of the organic washing liquid after deposition was established via the study of noise level. In this respect, acetone was the best choice. The amperometric signals with the modified platinum obtained upon the addition of aliquots of the stock solution resulted in a 3.29 μM detection limit. The biomimetic synthesis of substituted tetrahydro coumestan (3–8) derivatives is accomplished from 4-hydroxycoumarins (1a–f) and cyclohexanone derivatives (2a–n) using a 20 mol% FeCl3·6H2O catalyst in DMSO solvent upon heating at 110 °C. The significant features of the present strategy are mild reaction conditions, easy handling, readily available starting materials, no need for dry solvents, additives, and inert atmospheric reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, good to excellent yields, and high atom economy. Curcuminoid boron difluoride dyes have garnered significant attention in the realm of bioimaging, primarily owing to their excellent photophysicochemical properties. However, the strong hydrophobicity limits their optimal near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence emission, and the synthesis process is complicated. In this study, Curc-TPA, a curcuminoid boron difluoride derivative with a high fluorescence quantum yield, was facilely synthesized and surprisingly exhibited aggregation-induced NIR emission in a dimethyl sulfoxide/water mixture. The compound self-assembled into stable and homogeneous nanoparticles through hydrophobic interaction with the amphiphilic polymer 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-poly(ethylene glycol), which showed enhanced aggregation-induced emission (AIE) capacity in the NIR region. The nanoparticles specifically enriched at the tumor site due to the enhanced penetration and retention effect and exhibited bright fluorescence in vitro and in vivo. Notably, they showed satisfactory hematological compatibility and unobservable cellular and histological toxicity. Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas putida , Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus were utilized as test samples to evaluate the antibacterial characteristics of DD3-clay/MgO and DD3+38 wt% ZrO 2 -clay/MgO nanoparticles. The ceramic powders prepared by a thermal autoclave method are characterized before and after Mg addition by SEM, EDX, XRD, IR, UV–visible, and TEM in order to investigate microstructure, phase, and surface morphology. The results showed that after adding Mg, it led to the deformation of the crystal lattices of (mullite, zirconium silicate, and zirconium oxide) together with a decrease in particle size (75–103 nm) and a complete change in its shape from nanotube to nanospherical, as observed by SEM and TEM analyses. It also confirmed by UV–visible spectroscopy that the addition of Mg increases the absorbance accompanying a decrease in the energy gap of 1.91, 1.74, 1.73, and 1.43 eV corresponding to DD3, DD3Z, DD3/30 wt% Mg and DD3Z/30 wt% Mg respectively. The antibacterial mechanism is related to the size of the particles, the solvent used for powder dissolution, the nanoparticle's size when they come into touch with bacteria, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS: ˙O 2 −, ˙OH, and H 2 O 2). It was observed that the anti-bacterial activity is enhanced with 10 wt% and 30 wt% of Mg added to a modified ceramic powder. Also, more O 2 − is formed on the surface of the prepared powder, which penetrates the bacterial cell and destroys it. The nanocomposite particles showed remarkable antibacterial activity when they were dissolved in DMSO compared to methanol and chloroform as organic solvents. The aim is to enrich knowledge on the antibacterial activities of metal nanoparticles (ZrSiO 4 and MgO) on three bacterial strains with different Grams due to their extensive involvement in the phenomena of contamination and infection encountered in the medical field. The synthesized nanoparticles have good antimicrobial activity against all strains tested. A maximum inhibition zone of 35 ± 0.2 mm was obtained with S. aureus , a zone of 23 ± 0.46 mm with P. putida and a zone of 27 ± 0.46 nm with B. subtilis for DD3/30 wt% Mg and an inhibition zone of 38 ± 0.93 mm, 26 ± 0.24 nm and 17 ± 0.33 nm was obtained with same strains for DD3Z/30 wt% Mg, respectively. Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a conductive polymer widely used in various microwave sensing components. Enhancing the efficiency of PEDOT:PSS‐based microwave structures relies on improving the polymer's conductivity, achievable by adding secondary solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which significantly boosts the electrical conductivity. However, the performance of DMSO‐doped PEDOT:PSS films in microwave regime requires investigations. Herein, patch resonators are fabricated using solution processing of aqueous dispersion of PEDOT:PSS doped with varying concentrations of DMSO from 0 to 8 wt.% to investigate their microwave behavior within the frequency range of 4.5–6.5 GHz. The PEDOT:PSS patch structures are implemented on a glass substrate and their resonant characteristics, including resonant frequency and amplitude, are studied in response to varying relative humidity (RH) levels ranging from 0% to 70%. The significant variations in the microwave responses are observed at the resonant amplitude, confirming the main impact of humidity on the conductivity of the films. According to the measured results, the 2 wt.% doped patch shows greater sensitivity to the changes to the RH in contrast to the 8 wt.% doped patches, where the response shows less sensitivity to the humidity variation. The results indicate that a lower percentage of DMSO enhances sensitivity to the humidity at the cost of increased electromagnetic loss in the resonant patch structures for humidity sensing applications. Properly fusing various photophysical processes in a single chromo-fluorophore platform is crucial for developing a highly selective and sensitive chromo-fluorogenic probe to detect various target analytes. Moreover, deciphering the mechanistic approach for understanding the detection mechanism for any target analyte is paramount to facilitate the construction and development of new efficient probes for the selective detection and quantification of different target analytes. In this report, we introduce a phthalimide-based chromo-fluorogenic scaffold, DAID, fusing intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), photoinduced electron transfer (PET), and excited-state intermolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) processes in a single molecular platform. DAID showed turn-on and ratiometric chromo-fluorogenic behaviors toward trivalent transition metal ions Al3+, Fe3+, and Cr3+ in a 20% (v/v) water–DMSO mixture. A visual colorimetric change was detected in the DAID solution by incorporating trivalent transition metal ions. A remarkable turn-on green color emission enhancement was noticed in the DAID solution in the presence of these trivalent ions. The limit of detection and limit of quantification for these trivalent transition metal ions were in the nM range and were superior to those of other methods reported in the literature. Time-resolved fluorescence-lifetime-decay, 1H-NMR titration, and high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis were carried out to elucidate the detailed mechanistic aspects to understand the detection mechanism for the identification of the trivalent transition metal ions employing the DAID probe. The successful demonstration of DAID for practical applications is encouraging for its further application in a variety of fields, fusing and deciphering the various photophysical processes in a single chromo-fluorophore platform, which would enable researchers to develop new efficient probes to selectively detect various target analytes. Graphitic carbon plays a pivotal role in numerous technological applications, including energy storage, energy conversion, and different fields of material science. The transformation of amorphous carbon into graphitic carbon, a process known as graphitization, is important for optimizing the properties of carbon materials. In this study, we explore the catalytic graphitization of polyacrylonitrile (PANs) using various metal salts (LiNO3, Ca(NO3)2·4H2O, and Ni(NO3)2·6H2O). We prepared dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solutions of PAN with different salt concentrations of 5, 10, and 15 wt.%. The different prepared metal salt-mixed PAN/DMSO solutions were dried at 45 °C and this was followed by carbonization processes at 950 °C, with a heating rate of 1 °C min−1 for 1 h under an N2 atmosphere. The resulting graphitic carbon was characterized to determine the influence of salt type and concentration on the degree of graphitization. Our findings provide valuable insights into PAN-derived graphitic carbon's structural and compositional properties. This work underscores the influence of salt concentration in optimizing the graphitization process, offering a pathway to design facile and cost-effective graphitic carbon materials. One of the most popular foods consumed worldwide is meat. According to its high protein and moisture content, it is highly susceptible to spoiling itself. Preservatives are therefore necessary to maintain its quality and lengthen its shelf life. The objective of this assessment is to draw attention to a certain technique for extending the shelf life of meat products. This study examined the shelf-life of secondary collagen -containing raw materials treated with varied concentrations of DMSO in terms of pH degree and total ion concentration (TIC). For this purpose, six meat samples were treated with different concentrated DMSO solutions under room temperature and aerobic conditions for 7 days. Complex permittivity spectra of propionitrile (PN) – dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) mixtures in the 10 MHz–30 GHz frequency range were investigated using time-domain reflectometry (TDR). The Debye model was employed to fit the measured dielectric spectra, allowing for the calculation of dielectric parameters like the static dielectric constant (ε0) and relaxation time (τ). Excess dielectric constant (ε0 E) and excess inverse relaxation time (1/τ)E were subsequently calculated from the measured ε0 and τ. The observed variations in these excess parameters provide evidence for intermolecular interactions within the PN-DMSO mixtures. Electrochemical study of the mechanism of dimethylsulfoxide electrooxidation on a platinum electrode in acidic and alkaline solutions is carried out. On the stationary anodic polarization curves taken in acidic and alkaline dimethylsulfoxide solutions, the oxidation currents preceded those measured in the supporting electrolyte. By the analyzing of linear segments of anodic voltammograms, the coefficients of the Tafel equation are determined. This allowed choosing the current density range and conditions for the dimethylsulfoxide electrooxidation on the platinum electrode. The electrolysis was carried out at controlled current density in electrolyzers both with unseparated compartments and the anodic and cathodic compartments separated with MK-40, MA-40 membranes and a MF-4SK fluoropolymer sulfocationite membrane. The high electrical conductivity and selectivity of the membranes provided good performance of the electrolysis process and obtaining of high-purity final product. Raman spectroscopy and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry confirmed that the products of dimethylsulfoxide electrooxidation in the acidic solution are dimethylsulfone and dimethylsulfoxide; in alkaline solution, the dimethyl sulfone and sodium methanesulfonate. The method of quantum-chemical calculations showed good adsorption of dimethylsulfoxide molecules at platinum within the frames of the cluster model. It is shown that the dimethylsulfoxide formation at the platinum electrode surface at high current densities occurs by the radical-ion mechanism, involving breaking of the C–S bond. Sulfonated carbon catalysts exhibit superior catalytic performance for production of biobased chemicals, but the catalyst preparation approaches are still suffered from high corrosion and possible pollution risks. In this paper, lignin extracted from corn stover was used to prepare lignin-based activated carbon, which was then subjected to grafting modification by sulfur dioxide nonthermal plasma method to construct a novel lignin-derived solid acid catalyst (LP-LDSA). The catalytic performances of LP-LDSA were further determined by dehydration of fructose to produce 5-HMF in a biphasic solvent system composed by dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and water. Under the optimal conditions, the 5-HMF yield and reaction selectivity were 88.9% and 89.4%, respectively. This LP-LDSA catalyst also exhibited excellent stability and reusability in five sequential reaction batches. This method has advantages of shorter solid acid preparation duration, lower energy consumption, and higher catalytic stability, presenting an innovative and green method for sulfonation production of solid acid catalyst. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype with poor prognosis of breast cancer. Thiostrepton exerts anti-tumor activities against several cancers including TNBC. Herein we discussed the new molecular mechanisms of thiostrepton in TNBC. Thiostrepton inhibited MDA-MB-231 cell viability, accompanied by a decrease of c-FLIP and p-SMAD2/3. c-FLIP overexpression reduced the sensitivity of MDA-MB-231 cells to thiostrepton, while SMAD2/3 knockdown increased the sensitivity of MDA-MB-231 cells to thiostrepton. Moreover, c-FLIP overexpression significantly increased the expression and phosphorylation of SMAD2/3 proteins and vice versa.
