Das Ziel heutiger Entwicklung von Sprachdialogsystemen (SDS) ist eine intuitive und natürliche Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle. Für eine natürliche Bedienung von SDS ist es Voraussetzung, dass Nutzer nicht weiter auf eine vordefinierte Menge an möglichen Eingaben zurückgreifen müssen und die Sprache des Systems lernen müssen, sondern frei und intuitiv mit dem System kommunizieren können. Dies bedingt, dass die Sprachverstehen-Komponente idealerweise mit allen möglichen Äußerungen umgehen können muss, die mit einer bestimmten semantischen Bedeutung assoziiert werden. Für die Entwicklung kommerzieller SDS, die den Anforderungen natürlicher Nutzereingaben gerecht werden sollen, muss zunächst definiert werden, welche Äußerungsvielfalt das Sprachverstehen verarbeiten können muss, um alle Nutzer gleichermaßen zufriedenzustellen. Zur Sicherstellung der Qualität muss die entwickelte Software hinsichtlich der Erfüllung dieser Anforderungen systematisch überprüft werden können. Da natürliche Nutzereingaben in kommerziellen Systemen erst seit kurzer Zeit bis zu einem gewissen Grad möglich sind, fehlt es im Entwicklungsprozess kommerzieller SDS an Methoden, mit denen sich die Anforderungen natürlicher Nutzereingaben definieren und systematisch überprüfen lassen. Ziel der Arbeit ist es daher, die prozessrelevanten methodischen Voraussetzungen für die Qualitätssicherung für das Verstehen natürlicher Nutzereingaben in zielorientierten SDS zu schaffen. Als exemplarischen Anwendungsfall betrachtet die Arbeit fahrzeuggebundene SDS, da die Problematik in diesem Kontext durch die Zusammenarbeit mit externen Systemlieferanten und die erforderliche Systemreife eine besondere Rolle spielt. Dafür charakterisiert die Arbeit zunächst den abstrakten Begriff Natürlichsprachlichkeit, indem freie und intuitive Äußerungen erhoben und analysiert werden. Basierend auf den Erkenntnissen werden theoretisch motivierte Kriterien definiert, die anhand der erhobenen Daten verifiziert werden. Die Kriterien ermöglichen, die Äußerungsvielfalt natürlicher Nutzereingaben zu erfassen und das Sprachverstehen entsprechend zu evaluieren. Für die Evaluation der Sprachverstehen-Komponente wird eine große Menge an natürlichen Äußerungen benötigt. Dafür untersucht und bewertet die Arbeit die Eignung verschiedener Methoden, um diese Daten im Entwicklungsprozess zu generieren. Der Beitrag der Arbeit ermöglicht zum einen die Erfassung der Anforderungen, die mit natürlichen Nutzereingaben an das Sprachverstehen gestellt werden und auf deren Basis die technische Umsetzung erfolgen kann, und zum anderen eine systematische Evaluation des Natürlichen Sprachverstehen.

Radar-based gesture recognition can play a vital role in autonomous vehicles’ interaction with vulnerable road users (VRUs). However, in automotive scenarios the same gesture produces strongly differing radar responses owed to the wide range of variations such as position, orientation, or ego-motion. Since including all kinds of modifications in a measured dataset is laborious, gesture simulations alleviate the measurement effort and increase the robustness against edge and corner cases. Hence, this paper presents a flexible geometric human target model allowing the direct introduction of a wide range of modifications, while it facilitates the handling of shadowing effects and multiradar constellations. Using the proposed simulation model, a dataset recorded with a radar sensor network consisting of three chirp sequence (CS) radars is resimulated based on motion data simultaneously captured with a stereo video system. Completely substituting the measured by simulated data for training, a convolutional neural network (CNN) classifier still achieves 80.4% cross-validation accuracy on a challenging gesture set, compared to 89.4% for training on measured data. Satellite, fifth generation (5G), and sixth generation (6G) mobile communication systems operating at micro- and millimeter wave frequencies are an essential pillar in advanced network architectures for high-throughput low latency services. The decisive factors for this current development were the significant technological advances accomplished over the last two decades, which meanwhile enable highly integrated, feature-rich, and cost-effective realizations of complete phased array transceiver topologies. Motivated through the today's trend for heterogeneous constellation types to provide truly global coverage, this contribution reviews the current state-of-the-art of electronically steerable antennas for terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems up to 100 GHz. First, the potential benefits and limitations of the most relevant technologies are contrasted and put into context with recent system architectures for adaptive beamforming. Their operating principles along with various experimental implementation and achievements providing advanced capabilities such as multi-band/multi-beam operation, polarization agility, and wide-angle scanning are thoroughly presented. The current wave of artificial intelligence and technological advancements has brought intelligent assistants into our daily lives. Such personal assistants help us with simple tasks, like providing news or weather information, smart home control, or entertainment using natural language. Despite their appraisal as intelligent entities, personal or conversational assistants are in general still stuck in the role of butlers and reactive bystanders that act upon commands. For enhancing the cooperation capability of these systems and unfolding their technical competencies to the fullest, the integration of proactivity has become an emerging research topic in this area. Proactivity implies that technical systems, such as conversational assistants, possess the ability to detect a user’s need for assistance and to initiate appropriate actions accordingly. Even though related work shows the potential benefits of proactive behaviour with regard to human-machine cooperation, the acceptance of proactive technology is still low due to an expectation gap between system behaviour and user requirements. For closing this gap, we propose to equip proactive systems with proactive dialogue management in order to include the user in the system’s decision processes and negotiate appropriate actions. However, how to computationally model timely and relevant proactive dialogue without giving the user the perception of being controlled or invading their privacy is an open question. Inappropriate proactive behaviour may have devastating effects on the cooperation and lead to diminished trust in the system which may compromise the acceptance of this technology. Therefore, this work aims at providing accepted and trustworthy proactive assistance by developing socially and task-effective dialogue models with the overall goal of improving the cooperation between humans and machines. For this, three major contributions are provided. As the first contribution, we present a proactive dialogue model for human-machine cooperation. This concept builds upon two exploratory pilot studies observing the user perception of state-of-the-art approaches for inferring user and system requirements of proactive dialogue for application in cooperative contexts. Based on the outcome of the initial studies we conduct an requirement analysis and provide a taxonomy of proactive dialogue for cooperation. Here, we introduce proactive dialogue act types which represent different autonomy levels of proactive dialogue behaviour. Proactive dialogue in general is considered as the initiation of supporting dialogues for facilitating task execution. Besides, we propose a cognitive system architecture with the goal of implementing proactive dialogue in a technical system using methods of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. As a second contribution, we present the design and evaluation of four user-centred proactive dialogue strategies based on the developed proactive dialogue model. Here, the goal is to provide an understanding of the effects of proactive dialogue design on the cooperation not only from a usability point of view but also from a social, user-centred perspective including a system’s trustworthiness. For this, we develop and implement several conversational assistance prototypes, both low- and high-fidelity, that are capable of proactive dialogue. In laboratory and more realistic user studies, we shed light on the effects of proactive dialogue on a system’s usability as well as human-computer trust dependent on task context, user characteristics, and state. These experiments allow to synthesise guidelines for the implementation of user-centered proactive dialogue management into cooperative conversational assistants. As a third and last contribution, we fuse the gained understanding of the social impact of proactive dialogue for implementing user-centred proactive dialogue models with the goal of achieving trusted and task-effective conversational assistants for improving cooperation. In this regard, we provide findings considering the user expectations of useradaptive proactive dialogue and the feasibility of utilising a trust measure for dialogue adaptation. For enabling statistically-driven adaptation methods, a proactive dialogue data corpus is collected and annotated with several features including trust. Based on the provided data, we advance the state-of-the-art for computationally modelling trust during conversational cooperation and present approaches for real-time prediction of trust during dialogue. Evaluation of the trust predictors shows the utility of our approach by achieving reasonable recall and accuracy. Trust prediction is then included in a conversational assistant for realising trust-adaptive proactive dialogue management. For dialogue management, we develop and implement a rule-based and reinforcement learning approach. The high trustworthiness and usability of trust-adaptive proactive dialogue management are proven in a user simulator study, for which a new socially aware user simulator has been developed. In summary, we provide the first user-centred approach for integrating the concept of proactivity in human-computer dialogue. Here, we enhance the social awareness of artificially intelligent systems by equipping them with the ability to reason about their own trustworthiness during cooperation and adapt their proactive dialogue behaviour accordingly. Finally, this enables machines to provide more human-like and natural decisionmaking for appropriately assisting humans in complex task environments. This forms an important step on the way from mere conversational assistants to personal advisors.

In the last few years, a technological turnaround has taken place with the so-called Internet of Things (IoT). This has drastically changed the classic view of IT, which until the IoT era had largely consisted of fully-fledged and powerful desktop computers. Compared to classical computers, IoT devices are designed for a specific use. As a result, the hardware and form factor of these devices can be reduced, the price becomes more affordable and, hence, the number of applications increases. Thus, kitchen appliances, thermometers and oscilloscopes become “smarter” and are permanently networked with the Internet. This is taking on greater proportions due to the wide range of possible applications for IoT devices, such as the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) philosophy of many companies, the ever-increasing networking through home automation, the development of smart cities with sensors, and even through the communication of autonomous vehicles with their environment (V2X). IoT devices, however, consist of computer systems on a reduced scale, which - analogous to classical computer systems - are equally vulnerable to computer attacks. However, there is no trivial way to secure IoT devices by installing antivirus programs or anomaly detection. This is aggravated by the fact that IoT manufacturers often focus on implementing profitable functionalities instead of strengthening the security of the devices. In combination with the lack of standards, this leads to an unmanageable diversity of device models, which, for example in large heterogeneous networks, can neither be identified nor critically evaluated in sufficient time without the help of automation. The focus of this dissertation is to create security risk assessments for IoT devices in large heterogeneous networks to estimate their current and future device security risk. For this purpose, we deal with the following research questions: (i) How can device identification be improved to automatically identify different IoT device models in large-scale heterogeneous networks?, (ii) How can gathering of firmware and vulnerability information be automated for known vulnerabilities including patch detection to improve risk assessment results?, (iii) How can knowledge of software vulnerabilities serve to establish risk metrics including a future risk prediction?, and (iv) Do the solutions of research questions 1–3 scale to large heterogeneous networks? We investigate in two exemplary approaches to automate device identification through different information sources. In the following, we show how a data fusion process can be used to increase the device identification rate for a potentially large number of device identification mechanisms. For each device identification, the three most likely device models of being the device under test are further processed by downloading and analyzing their firmware images. This includes vulnerability detection of contained software up to the detection of whether and when manufacturers have fixed vulnerabilities. From the obtained information, the current and future device security risk indicator is calculated per device. In various visualizations, we show these resulting security risk indicators and the evidence for their calculations based on the user’s IT-security experience. The final result is a highly automated process - for technical and non-technical users - which allows a fast, detailed and traceable security assessment for IoT devices. In this work we develop SAFER, a framework for conducting security risk assessments of IoT devices. We evaluate SAFER in the large and heterogeneous network infrastructure of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), in which about 312,000 network devices are registered. We use SAFER to identify IoT devices in this network and evaluate them in a security critical way. To enable SAFER to provide a comprehensive risk assessment for its users, our framework only needs the host-name of a device to start. In order to evaluate if users can interpret SAFER’s risk assessments in a comprehensible manner, we conducted a study with 10 technical and 10 non-technical CERN employees. The contributions of our work include: (i) the application of a data fusion methodology to device identification mechanisms in order to improve the detection rate, (ii) the automation of the process from firmware acquisition to the automated detection if and when identified software vulnerabilities have been fixed by the device vendor, (iii) the automated calculation of current as well as predicting future risk indicators for IoT devices, and (iv) the evaluation of our SAFER system in its applicability to large heterogeneous networks.

Distillation is the most important thermal separation process, accounting for about 3 % of the world's energy demand. In the chemical industry, distillation processes are often realized in packed columns. In many cases their large-scale implementation is based on preliminary experimental investigations in laboratory-scale test columns, especially if new chemicals are involved or when particularly complex processes are to be realized. According to the state of the art, laboratory columns with a diameter of 50 mm are used for the scale-up process to generate reliable measurement data. Packings with particularly advantageous scalability properties should be used. In the context of this work, the term scalability describes a separation efficiency of a packing that is independent of the gas load and thus constant. Furthermore, the generation of reliable, reproducible mass transfer measurement data is of great importance. This thesis focuses on evaluating the security of the recently released home automation standard Matter, which is intended to improve the security and interoperability of smart home devices. The goal of this work was to analyze the security implications that can be derived from the specification of Matter, and to determine whether the Matter standard fulfills the promises made regarding its security. Our analysis was done by creating a threat model and performing a manual vulnerability analysis, where we focused on determining the attack surface and potential vulnerabilities, dangerous deviations that could be made by vendors, and by providing concise examples of possible implementations that could reduce the overall security of Matter in the field. In addition, we added a test catalog and Tamarin models of Matter’s PAKE, SIGMA exchange during the CASE as well as plain SPAKE2+ for future use in symbolic verification. We were able to show that Matter is able to mostly fulfill its claims, explain where Matter deviates from its promises, and provide recommendations on how to further increase Matter’s security. Our work also identifies weaknesses in the specification for which we expect future revisions of the specification to add additional mandatory requirements to address them. With this work, we aim to help security researchers, device manufacturers, and specification developers in gaining a comprehensive picture of Matter’s security model, and ultimately contribute to overall security and privacy.

Fault-tolerant systems are ubiquitous—not only in the world of IT, but in every critical system we design and build in our natural environment. Approaches aimed at equipping systems with the resilience they need to withstand both internal and external disturbances are multitudinous. Among these approaches, State Machine Replication (SMR) stands out due to the remarkable guarantees it provides system designers with in regard to the types of failures it can tolerate. Unfortunately, however, replicating state machines comes with high resource costs, and the architectural requirements of this technique are difficult to fulfill without incurring additional, significant decreases in performance. This thesis contributes to several research endeavors addressing the performance issues SMR solutions commonly face. The primary goal of this work is the advancement of the state-of-the-art regarding solutions that equip SMR systems with the means to self-optimize during runtime. The thesis first identifies a common drawback of existing optimization methods that are based on deterministic multithreading, and provides an immediate solution in the form of a novel, runtime-reconfigurable scheduling algorithm. This forms the basis for the following research efforts contained in this work, which improve on prior systems using two main approaches: (i) The first approach aims at enabling SMR systems to scale vertically during runtime, which unlocks significant potential in regard to cost efficiency of these solutions. (ii) The second approach looks at the performance of SMR systems as experienced by clients, i.e., using metrics such as throughput and request latencies, and improves these by introducing several novel optimization solutions. In addition to detailing these approaches and their results, the thesis also introduces background knowledge about fault-tolerant systems, deterministic multithreading, and optimization methods that is required to understand and follow this work. The resulting contributions consist of multiple novel algorithms in the contexts of deterministic scheduling, deterministic distributed measurements, and performance optimization. Additionally, several proof-of-concept implementations are presented and used for thorough evaluations, showing significant advantages over unoptimized approaches or related work. Among these implementations, an architecture for vertically scalable SMR systems is presented, and a fully self-optimizing SMR setup is introduced and evaluated. Finally, the thesis details the development of a Reinforcement Learning-based framework for the creation of autonomous agents capable of self-optimizing SMR systems during runtime. Some of these novel mechanisms are orthogonal to prior work and can be combined with existing solutions to further boost the performance of deterministically multithreaded systems in the context of SMR., Fehlertolerante Systeme sind weltweit nicht mehr aus unserer Gesellschaft wegzudenken, sichern sie doch in vielerlei Hinsicht unseren hohen Lebensstandard. Die Ansätze mit denen DesignerInnen und IngenieurInnen die diese Systeme entwerfen letztendlich Fehlertoleranz sicherstellen, sind vielfältig und Kernthema verschiedenster Forschungsdisziplinen. Unter all diesen Ansätzen stechen replizierte Zustandsautomaten (State Machine Replication, Abk. SMR) hervor, da sie ein hohes Level an Fehlertoleranz bieten, welches von den meisten anderen Mechanismen nicht erreicht werden kann. Leider wird diese hohe Fehlertoleranz jedoch durch intensiven Ressourceneinsatz erkauft, und die zahlreichen Anforderungen an die Architektur von SMR-Systemen haben oftmals starke Performanceeinbußen zur Folge. In dieser Arbeit werden mehrere Lösungsansätze verfolgt, die Performance von SMR-Systemen zu verbessern. Das Hauptziel dieser Dissertation ist, SMR-Systeme mit der Fähigkeit auszustatten, sich während der Laufzeit selbst und so autonom wie möglich zu optimieren, um auf Änderungen an Umgebungsvariablen reagieren zu können und ihre Performance im Vergleich zu unoptimierten Systemen allgemein zu steigern. Als erstes wird diesbezüglich eine gemeinsame Schwäche aller vorheriger auf deterministischem Multithreading basierender Optimierungsmethoden identifiziert, und ein neuartiger deterministischer Schedulingalgorithmus als Lösung vorgeschlagen. Dieser bildet zugleich die Basis für die weiteren Forschungsansätze der Arbeit, welche den aktuellen Stand der Forschung hinsichtlich der folgenden Themen vorantreiben: (i) Der erste Ansatz zielt darauf ab, SMR-Systeme zu befähigen, während ihrer Laufzeit vertikal zu skalieren. Dies ermöglicht immense Kosteneinsparungen im Betrieb cloudbasierter SMR-Installationen. (ii) Im zweiten Ansatz wird die Leistung von SMR-Systemen aus Perspektive der Clients betrachtet, und die entsprechenden Metriken, wie Request-Durchsatz und -Latenzzeiten mit innovativen Optimierungsmethoden verbessert. Zusätzlich zur Beschreibung dieser Forschungsansätze beinhaltet die Arbeit ausführliche Hintergrundinformationen zu den Kernthemen des deterministischen Multithreadings und der Systemoptimierung, um LeserInnen die Möglichkeit zu geben, der Arbeit auch ohne viel Vorwissen folgen zu können. Die aus den Forschungsansätzen resultierenden Ergebnisse und Beiträge der Arbeit zum aktuellen Forschungsstand bestehen aus mehreren neuartigen Algorithmen, mitunter für deterministisches Multithreading, für fehlertolerante Messungen in verteilten Systemen, und für die Leistungsoptimierung von SMR-Systemen. Zusätzlich zeigen verschiedene Proof-of-concept Implementierungen anhand ausführlicher Messungen und Evaluationen die Vorteile unserer Lösungen im Vergleich zu vorherigen oder unoptimierten Systemen. Unter diesen Prototypen findet sich zum einen eine Architektur die SMR-Systemen vertikales Skalieren zur Laufzeit ermöglicht, und zum anderen ein umfassender, lauffähiger Prototyp eines selbstoptimierenden SMR-Systems. Zu guter Letzt wird eine Plattform für das Trainieren von Reinforcement Learning-Agenten vorgestellt, durch die es ermöglicht wird, Agenten zu kreieren die mit komplexeren Kombinationen aus Metriken und Konfigurationsparametern umgehen können, um Systeme selbsttätig zu optimieren. Einige der vorgestellten Ansätze sind zudem orthogonal zu vorherigen Arbeiten und können mit diesen kombiniert werden, um zusätzliche Leistungssteigerungen im Kontext von SMR zu erzielen.

State-of-the-art mobile devices have become progressively mainstream, can be more and more personalized, and are ubiquitous devices. The pervasive adoption of mobile devices has encouraged the development of many mobile applications (apps) that are accessible via marketplaces of respective mobile platforms. Such mobile apps are also commonplace in healthcare and medical use. From perspective of tinnitus -- the perception of a phantom ringing sound in absence of external source -- these apps are capable of providing relief, self-help, general management, and using internal embedded smartphone sensors or interfacing external sensors to better understand the phantom phenomenon. The principle and collective goal of this thesis work is to foster and bring forth Mobile Health (mHealth) apps applicable in the tinnitus context. To do so, primarily, this thesis work emphasizes on the identification, assessment and evaluation of the quality of tinnitus-related mHealth apps currently available on the app marketplaces. Secondarily, a novel Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) middleware executed as an Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) mHealth app to better understand tinnitus is developed. The proposed thesis project is divided in two sub-projects. The first sub-project involves systematic identification and discovery of commercial apps for tinnitus, available for major mobile platforms; thus contributes to the body of knowledge by providing 1) an up-to-date overview of existing apps, and 2) discussions on scientific literature pertaining to the mHealth apps. Additionally, the first sub-project focuses on studying the quality of commercially available tinnitus-related mHealth apps. Herein, primarily, a literature review of apps used for tinnitus treatment and management is presented; therefore, contributes significantly by providing deep insights into efficacy and effectiveness of smartphone apps for tinnitus treatment. Secondarily, an objective quality assessment and evaluation of tinnitus apps using Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) is conducted. The results and analysis of the MARS assessment of tinnitus-related mHealth apps will provide imperative viewpoint about the quality of apps for tinnitus treatment and management to both clinicians and patients. The second subproject addresses the significant lack of EMA mHealth apps for daily assessment of tinnitus patients. In this regard, a novel mobile-based middleware for real-time measurements of tinnitus-related parameters along with automated sensing of environmental data as well as Electroencephalography (EEG) of tinnitus patients is proposed. The proposed mobile-based middleware is realized as a tinnitus-specific MCS-based EMA mHealth app namely, TinnituSense. The TinnituSense app will allow therapists and researchers to collect evidence for unknown facts regarding tinnitus, as this is the first opportunity to correlate EEG and weather-related data to patient conditions on a larger scale. Moreover, the app will assist the data collection process, gathering of tinnitus-related, weather-related, and EEG data for designing large scale longitudinal studies. The precise identification of the vehicle pose, which is comprised of the position and orientation within a local or global coordinate system, is a critical backbone module and an essential prerequisite for the safe and responsible operation of automated vehicles. In well-structured environments with low complexity, for example, on highways, series-produced vehicles already operate in an automated manner in specific scenarios using environment perception only. However, the deployment in highly dynamic and urban areas requires sophisticated perception and action planning algorithms to calculate and perform a driving maneuver appropriate to the current situation. For this purpose, the pose is estimated using self-localization approaches, which, combined with accurate digital map information acts as an additional sensor. For example, an intersection that the sensors cannot correctly perceive can be loaded from the digital map, and valuable and required information is extracted accordingly. Then, appropriate trajectories can be planned, which would not be possible without knowing the vehicle's position on the map. Subsequently, localization methods can be divided into several categories, often characterized by the type of map and measurement representation. This thesis focuses on processing pure point cloud-based measurements and landmarks, which means that the environment is represented by two or three-dimensional unordered and unstructured point sets. Traditional filter-based localization methods are well-explored in the literature, matching multi-modal sensor measurements, such as radar, camera, or lidar measurements, with information from a previously acquired high-accuracy digital map to infer the pose. This process requires a so-called association and matching algorithm, which is usually implemented by heuristic or hand-tuned algorithms. The application of deep neural networks has already revolutionized many areas of computer vision, especially the processing of camera-based image information. Based on these advances, this work aims to present state-of-the-art methods in the area of data-based point cloud processing, as well as novel techniques that are applied to landmark-based self-localization. First, this thesis introduces the Point Transformer network architecture, a general method that processes geometric information from three-dimensional point clouds and learns shape and local dependencies. A novel sorting module is presented, which learns a latent feature representation of the input that induces permutation-invariance. Furthermore, the widespread attention mechanism is adapted to deal with the difficult task of processing arbitrary point sets. The network can be applied to solve common computer vision tasks, such as object classification or part segmentation. The second part of this thesis focuses on a deep neural network that adapts well-known and established point cloud processing architectures for vehicle self-localization. Here, two unstructured point sets represent the input, i.e., the landmarks and multi-modal measurements. The goal is to approximate the traditional self-localization task comprised of multiple subtasks such as measurement-to-landmark association and point cloud registration, using a permutation-invariant neural network that processes the landmarks and measurement sets to infer the vehicle's pose. Moreover, different improvements, a novel training strategy, and two system architectures that allow the deployment in real-world scenarios are presented. The methods are evaluated using a dataset creation pipeline that is able to generate automatically labeled data on the fly. Finally, the introduced Point Transformer approach is adapted for self-localization, where high-density lidar point clouds that contain semantic features in addition to geometric information are processed. Again, an automatically generated and annotated dataset is presented for this method that uses state-of-the-art lidar segmentation networks. The evaluation of all methods presented in this thesis is first performed in synthetically generated scenarios, allowing systematic analysis of different influences and interfering factors of the localization task. Subsequently, the methods are evaluated in experiments using real-world data acquired with an automatically operated vehicle. Compared to traditional filter-based localization algorithms, significant improvements in localization accuracy can be achieved, meeting the requirements for safe and reliable automated operation in urban environments., In den vergangenen Jahren haben neue Technologien und Algorithmen im Bereich der Fahrerassistenzsysteme einen starken Anstieg der Funktionalität und Einsatzbereiche ermöglicht, sodass bereits heute in bestimmten Szenarien und in gut strukturierten Umgebungen von geringer Komplexität wie zum Beispiel auf Autobahnen, ein weitestgehend automatisiertes Fahren von Serienfahrzeugen gewährleistet werden kann. Jedoch sind für den sicheren und robusten, voll automatisierten Betrieb in dynamischen Szenarien, beispielsweise in urbanen Bereichen, eine Vielzahl von aufeinander aufbauenden Softwaremodulen und komplexe Prozessketten erforderlich. Dabei ist die hochgenaue Bestimmung der Fahrzeugpose eine grundlegende Voraussetzung und ein essenzieller Bestandteil für die verlässliche und detaillierte Umgebungswahrnehmung, das Situationsverstehen, sowie die Handlungs- und Trajektorienplanung. Im Allgemeinen setzt sich die Fahrzeugpose aus einer zweidimensionalen Position und der Orientierung zusammen, die in einem globalen oder lokalen Koordinatensystem definiert sind. Um ein der aktuellen Situation angemessenes Fahrmanöver zu planen und durchzuführen, wird die Fahrzeupose mit einer Genauigkeit im Zentimeterbereich erwartet, welche durch handelsübliche GPS-Sensorik nicht gewährleistet werden kann. Aus diesem Grund wird die Fahrzeugpose mithilfe von Lokalisierungsalgorithmen geschätzt, indem Sensormessungen und statische Objekte aus einer digitalen Karte, auch Landmarken genannt, miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden. So lassen sich beispielsweise relevante Informationen für eine Kreuzung, die von den Sensoren nicht umfassend eingesehen und wahrgenommen werden kann, aus der digitalen Karte laden und für nachgelagerte Algorithmen zur Verfügung stellen. In der Literatur werden Lokalisierungsmethoden üblicherweise in verschiedene Kategorien untergliedert, wobei die Unterscheidung anhand der Darstellung der Karten- und Messinformationen durchgeführt wird. Diese Arbeit konzentriert sich dabei auf die Verarbeitung punktwolkenbasierter Eingangsdaten, was bedeutet, dass die Umgebung durch zwei- oder dreidimensionale, ungeordnete und unstrukturierte Punktmengen dargestellt wird. Weit verbreitet sind traditionelle filterbasierte Lokalisierungsmethoden, die multimodale Sensormessungen wie zum Beispiel Radar-, Kamera- oder Lidarmessungen, mit Informationen aus einer zuvor erstellten hochgenauen digitalen Karte abgleichen, um daraus die Pose abzuleiten. Dieser Prozess erfordert unter anderem einen Assoziationsalgorithmus für die Zuordnung von Messungen und Landmarken, der in der Regel durch heuristische oder manuell eingestellte Algorithmen implementiert wird. Tiefe neuronale Netze haben bereits viele Bereiche des maschinellen Sehens revolutioniert, insbesondere die Verarbeitung von Kamerabildern. Aufbauend auf diesen Fortschritten zielt diese Arbeit darauf ab, neuartige Verfahren im Gebiet der datenbasierten Punkwolkenverarbeitung vorzustellen und diese Methoden für die Selbslokalisierung von automatisierten Fahrzeugen anzupassen. Dafür wird zunächst die Point Transformer Netzwerkarchitektur vorgestellt, wobei es sich um eine allgemeine Methode zur Verarbeitung geometrischer und punktbasierter Eingangsdaten handelt, die lokale Abhängigkeiten zwischen individuellen Punkten berücksichtigt. Das Verfahren adaptiert den weitverbreiteten Attention Mechanismus, um die Verarbeitung von unstrukturierten Punkwolken zu ermöglichen und stellt ein neues Modul vor, welches eine permutationsinvariante Repräsentation der Eingangspunktwolke anhand von gelernten Kernpunkten generiert. Die Netzwerkarchitektur wird auf bekannten 3D Computer Vision Benchmarks evaluiert, wobei vielversprechende Ergebnisse erzielt werden. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit einem Framework aus tiefen neuronalen Netzen, welches etablierte Netzwerkarchitekturen zur Verarbeitung von Punktwolken für die Selbstlokalisierung von automatisierten Fahrzeugen adaptiert. Bei den Verfahren stellen zwei unstrukturierte Punktmengen den Eingang dar, die im Folgenden als Landmarken und Messungen bezeichnet werden. Das Ziel dabei ist es, die lernbasierten Ansätze an traditionelle Formulierungen des Lokalisierungsproblems anzupassen, welche die Lokalisierung in mehrere Teilaufgaben untergliedern. Hierzu gehört zum Beispiel die Assoziation von Landmarken und Messungen und die Registrierung von Punktwolken unter Verwendung eines permutationsinvarianten neuronalen Netzes, um die Pose des Fahrzeugs zu ermitteln. Darüber hinaus werden verschiedene Verbesserungen, neuartige Trainingsstrategien sowie zwei Systemarchitekturen vorgestellt, die den Einsatz der Methoden in realen Szenarien ermöglichen. Für die Evaluation wird eine Prozessierungspipeline vorgestellt, die automatisiert annotierte Daten generiert. Schließlich wird der vorgestellte Point Transformer Ansatz für die Selbstlokalisierung angepasst, wobei dichte Lidar-Punktwolken verarbeitet werden, die zusätzlich zu den geometrischen Informationen auch semantische Merkmale enthalten. Die Evaluierung aller in dieser Arbeit vorgestellten Methoden erfolgt zunächst in einer synthetischen Simulationsumgebung, wodurch eine systematische Analyse von verschiedenen Einflüssen und Störfaktoren auf die Lokalisierungsgenauigkeit ermöglicht wird. Anschließend werden die Verfahren mit realen Daten evaluiert. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of neural networks have become omnipresent in recent years. Neural networks model complex mathematical functions that can be based on billions, or even trillions, of parameters. At the same time, neural networks make decisions that can deeply impact our lives. Therefore, understanding, testing, and interpreting these networks and their decisions is an integral part of model development and deployment. While there exist introspection techniques that support such understanding, testing, and interpretation, their adoption for diagnosing systems and explaining decisions can be difficult. Current problems with the adoption of introspection techniques are that they are not easily implemented in one's framework, do not work well in combination to create more meaningful analyses, and are difficult to interpret. Through the integration of existing and novel introspection techniques into visualization interfaces, extensive analysis, actionable insights, and effective diagnosis are made widely available. These visualization interfaces can be incorporated into existing development workflows and are designed to support bespoke analysis needs, which makes the interpretation of findings easier. In this thesis, we present published visualization interfaces in three different areas, namely quality assurance, communication, and AI education. These publications include a visualization approach for correcting mislabeled training data, an interface for automatic network figure generation to communicate network architectures, and an educational environment for recurrent neural networks (RNNs). Finally, to unify the diverse landscape of AI visualization interfaces, we also present a framework for composing, reusing, exploring, and sharing such interactive machine learning (ML) interfaces.

Feature models are commonly used to describe software product lines. There are different textual representations to describe a feature model, which leads to additional effort when using tools and feature models that use different languages. The Universal Variability Language (UVL) is a textual feature-modeling language. UVL is developed in close cooperation with the community with the goal to gain widespread adoption. The current version of UVL is rather simple, which makes it easy to understand and integrate into tools. However, this simple UVL version is not suitable for some use cases due to a lack of language features. An example that is difficult to represent as UVL feature model is a configurable computer, with the constraint that the accumulated power consumption of all parts must be lower than a certain threshold. If UVL adds explicit support to describe such a constraint, tools need to manage the added complexity to fully use UVL which again hampers exchange. The goals of being suitable for many use cases, but also easy to integrate into tools, contradict each other. We address this contradiction by adding optional language levels to UVL. This way, developers can integrate UVL into their tool and specify the language levels the tool supports. Tools that support different language levels are not interoperable by default. To improve exchangeability, we provide a set of basic conversion strategies to translate between language levels. Through conversion strategies, tools can use feature models, even if they do not fully support all UVL language level. As initial set of UVL language levels, we add support for expressions and equations over numerical attributes in constraints and feature cardinality to UVL. We provide tool support for parsing, printing, and conversion of feature models with a Java library. Our proposal makes UVL suitable for more use cases and reduces the effort when using UVL models across multiple tools.

Verletzliche Verkehrsteilnehmer sind im Straßenverkehr besonders gefährdet, da sie nicht durch eine Fahrzeugkarosserie geschützt sind. Ein Großteil dieser Gruppe machen hierbei Fußgänger und Fahrradfahrer aus. Die Überwachung des direkten Fahrzeugumfeldes bietet hierbei die Möglichkeit die Anzahl der Unfälle zu reduzieren. Unter anderem können dabei Radarsensoren eingesetzt werden, die anhand der mikro-Doppler-Signatur verletzliche Verkehrsteilnehmer klassifizieren. Zum zeitsparenden Test des Radars kann ein Radarzielsimulator verwendet werden. In dieser Arbeit wird ein Radarzielsimulator vorgestellt, mit dem die charakteristische mikro-Doppler-Signatur von verletzlichen Verkehrsteilnehmern generiert werden kann. Das System arbeitet hierbei bei dem für den Automobilbereich relevanten Frequenzbereich von 77 GHz. Die Ziele können hierbei anhand von Simulationen generiert, oder aus realen Messungen extrahiert werden. Durch die Überlagerung von Einzelzielen lassen sich somit realistische Verkehrsszenarien generieren.

Das Navigieren ist eine räumliche und kognitiv beanspruchende Aufgabe für Fahrende. Die neue Anzeigetechnologie Augmented Reality (AR) kann für das Navigieren eine Fahrerunterstützung erzielen. Es handelt sich um eine Weiterentwicklung des konventionellen Head-Up Displays (HUD). Durch AR ist die positionsgenaue Verortung der virtuellen Informationen in der realen Fahrsituation möglich. Die Informationen werden folglich im direkten Bezug zur Umwelt präsentiert. Bisherige Forschung zeigte, dass die Darstellung der Information direkt am Bezugsort zu einem schnellen und einfachen Verständnis führt. Das Forschungsziel der vorliegenden Dissertation war die Untersuchung der Effektivität und Nutzerakzeptanz von AR-Informationen in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen. Angenommen wurde, dass Fahrende besonders in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen von AR-Informationen profitieren, da diese im direkten Bezug zur Umwelt dargestellt werden. Im Rahmen dieser Dissertation wurden drei Nutzerstudien durchgeführt, davon zwei im Fahrsimulator und eine Validierungsstudie im realen Straßenverkehr. Bei der ersten Simulatorstudie handelte es sich um eine Grundlagenstudie. Die Aufgabe der Probanden war es mit dem AR Display bzw. dem HUD die richtige Zielabbiegung in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen zu finden. Es wurde analysiert, ob AR-Informationen zu einer verbesserten Orientierung und gleichzeitig zu einer reduzierten mentalen Beanspruchung in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen verhelfen können. Somit lag der Untersuchungsfokus auf dem Entscheidungspunkt für die korrekte Abbiegung in uneindeutigen Navigationsszenarien. Ein weiterer Fokus lag auf der Fahrerbeanspruchung mit den Anzeigearten AR Display bzw. HUD. Als Maß für die Fahrerbeanspruchung wurde die Leistung in einer kognitiven Nebenaufgabe analysiert, die eine indirekte Messung der Beanspruchung darstellt. Des Weiteren wurde die Navigationsleistung, das Fahrverhalten und das subjektive Erleben betrachtet. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Fahrenden mit einem AR Display die richtige Zielabbiegung in uneindeutigen Navigationsaufgaben frühzeitiger identifizieren konnten als mit einem HUD (Bauerfeind et al., 2019). Gleichzeitig führte das Navigieren mit AR-Informationen zu weniger Navigationsfehlern als mit einem HUD (Bauerfeind et al., 2019). Diese Daten deuten auf eine gesteigerte Orientierung in der Navigationsaufgabe durch AR-Informationen hin. Mit dem AR Display zeigten die Versuchspersonen eine bessere Leistung in der Nebenaufgabe. Abgeleitet werden kann, dass AR-Informationen mental weniger beanspruchend zu verarbeiten sind als Informationen im HUD (Bauerfeind et al., 2021). Weitere Daten belegen, dass die Probanden mit dem AR Display eine höhere Annäherungsgeschwindigkeit an die Zielabbiegung in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen zeigten (Bauerfeind et al., 2021). Demgegenüber fuhren die Probanden mit einem HUD langsamer zur Zielabbiegung, was als ein Kompensationsverhalten interpretiert werden kann, um Zeit für die Entscheidung in der uneindeutigen Navigationssituation zu gewinnen. Die Probanden bewerteten das Navigieren mit dem AR Display als angenehmer und verständlicher (Bauerfeind et al., 2019). Des Weiteren wurde das AR Display als nützlicher als das HUD für uneindeutige Navigationssituationen eingeschätzt. Im Rahmen der zweiten Studie wurde analysiert, ob das Navigieren mit AR-Informationen im Vergleich zu einem HUD zu aufmerksamkeitsbindenden Effekten führt, die auf einen Cognitive-Capture-Effekt (Weintraub, 1987 nach Tufano, 1997) verweisen können. Dafür wurde das Blickverhalten, in Form der Blickstreuung, während des Navigierens mit den Anzeigearten (AR Display vs. HUD) in einer vorstädtischen Gegend mit uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen untersucht. Die Fahrten unterschieden sich hinsichtlich der Verkehrskomplexität (niedrig vs. hoch), um herauszufinden, ob die Fahrenden ihr Blickverhalten an veränderte Umweltbedingungen anpassen. Des Weiteren wurde untersucht, ob die Verkehrskomplexität Einfluss auf die Effektivität und Bewertung der AR-Informationen hat. Da die Informationen positionsgenau in der Umwelt verortet sind, kann es zu Überlagerungen kommen, welche womöglich als störend von Fahrenden wahrgenommen werden können. Die Verkehrskomplexität wurde in Form der Anzahl fahrender und parkender Fahrzeuge in den Fahrten variiert. Potentielle aufmerksamkeitsbindende Effekte wurden des Weiteren in einer komplexeren Situation, einer uneindeutigen Linksabbiegung mit einem entgegenkommenden Fahrzeug, am Ende jeder Fahrt untersucht. Analysiert wurde, ob die Fahrenden dieses entgegenkommende Fahrzeug beachten und ein angemessenes Fahrverhalten mit der jeweiligen Anzeigeart zeigen. Dazu wurden die Fahrenden mit der Entscheidung konfrontiert, vor diesem abzubiegen oder ihn passieren zu lassen. Außerdem wurde analysiert, ob es mit einem AR Display zu einer reduzierten Blickwechselanzahl zwischen der Anzeige und der Zielabbiegung kommt, da die virtuellen Informationen bereits positionsgenau in der Umwelt verortet sind und die Fahrenden diese somit nicht mehr mental auf die reale Fahrsituation übertragen müssen. Für die Erfassung der Fahrerbeanspruchung absolvierten die Fahrenden eine kognitive Nebenaufgabe. Außerdem wurden die Navigationsfehler erfasst und die subjektive Bewertung analysiert. Die Daten zeigten, dass es weder durch das AR Display noch durch das HUD zu aufmerksamkeitsbindenden Effekten kam. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichten des Weiteren, dass es während des Navigierens zu weniger Blickwechsel zwischen der Zielabbiegung und den AR-Navigationsinformationen als den HUD-Navigationsinformationen kam. Abgeleitet wird, dass ein mentaler Abgleich zwischen den virtuellen Informationen und der realen Fahrsituation, wie mit einem HUD erforderlich, nicht länger notwendig ist. Dies bedeutet, dass AR-Informationen nicht in die Umwelt übertragen werden müssen. Auch in dieser Studie wurden mit dem AR Display weniger Navigationsfehler gemacht als mit dem HUD. Das AR Display erzielte eine höhere Nutzerakzeptanz als das HUD. Die Überlagerung der AR-Informationen über andere Verkehrsobjekte wurde von den Versuchspersonen als wenig störend bewertet. Die Hälfte der Probanden bemerkte keinen Unterschied zwischen der niedrigen und der hohen Verkehrskomplexität, da die Verkehrskomplexität die Navigationsaufgabe zu wenig beeinflusste. Die Realfahrtstudie diente der Validierung der gefundenen Potentiale der AR-Informationen im realen Straßenverkehr. Die technische Implementierung eines AR Displays in einem Realfahrzeug kann zu Einschränkungen führen, die Auswirkungen auf die Effektivität und die Nutzerakzeptanz der AR-Informationen zeigen können (Jansen, 2018; Pfannmüller et al., 2015b; Pfannmüller, 2017; Sadovitch, 2020). Beispielsweise können Nick-Wank-Bewegungen des Fahrzeugs ein Mitschwingen der präsentierten AR-Informationen bewirken und Sensorungenauigkeiten zu versetzten AR-Informationen führen. Somit sollte u.a. untersucht werden, ob diese Einschränkungen eine Aufmerksamkeitsbindung bewirken können. Dafür navigierten die Versuchsteilnehmer mit Hilfe der Navigationsanzeigen über das Werksgelände der Volkswagen AG. In dieser Realfahrtstudie wurde der Einfluss der Anzeigearten (HUD vs. AR Display) und die Eindeutigkeit der Abbiegesituation (eindeutige vs. uneindeutige Abbiegungen) auf die Fahrerbeanspruchung, das Blickverhalten, die Navigationsleistung und das subjektive Erleben untersucht. Die Ergebnisse ließen auf keine aufmerksamkeitsbindenden Effekte bedingt durch das AR Display oder das HUD im realen Straßenverkehr schließen. Des Weiteren konnte, trotz Ungenauigkeiten im AR Display, eine hohe Nutzerakzeptanz in dieser Realfahrtstudie erzielt werden. Ferner bewerteten die Fahrenden die Navigationsaufgabe mit dem AR Display als leichter als mit dem HUD. Mit beiden Anzeigearten zeigten die Fahrenden eine gute Navigationsleistung. Die Fahrenden absolvierten die kognitive Nebenaufgabe mit beiden Anzeigearten gut, bewerteten das AR Display subjektiv jedoch als entlastender als das HUD. Diese Dissertation trägt zu einem verbesserten Verständnis der Rolle von AR in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen bei. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass AR-Informationen leicht und intuitiv von Fahrenden verstanden werden können. Die Fahrenden schienen mit AR-Informationen über mehr freie Ressourcen als mit einem HUD zu verfügen (Bauerfeind et al., 2021). Im Vergleich zu einem HUD, konnten sich die Fahrenden mit AR-Informationen frühzeitiger für die richtige Zielabbiegung in uneindeutigen Navigationssituationen entscheiden und zeigten eine verbesserte Orientierung. Dies kann zu einem gesteigerten Fahrerlebnis führen. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse dieser Forschungsarbeit dienen der weiteren Entwicklung der AR basierten Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion, um das größtmögliche Potential von AR auszuschöpfen.

Constantly growing demands on the pollutant emissions and fuel consumption of motor vehicles are, among other things, driving the development of locally emission-free powertrains. The resulting increase in the degree of freedom and complexity of the powertrain, especially in hybrid vehicles, requires new control concepts, also known as control strategies. Researchers agree that efficiency can be further increased by incorporating predictive information into control strategies. This leads to the model predictive control methods, which however are often not real-time capable or only achieve this by linearizing the simplest physical models. The goal of this dissertation is the development of data-based, model predictive methods, which do not contain any linearizations, but nevertheless allow a real-time capable application. After a detailed description of the state of the art, a two-part methodology is described. In the first step, the hybrid powertrain's nonlinear, dynamic process behavior is approximated using system identification methods. Since the common methods of system identification produce insufficient model accuracy due to the complex, dynamically coupled system, an augmented time-delay neural network (TDNN) architecture is proposed. This architecture shows sufficient model accuracy and advantages in computational efficiency, especially with respect to the intended application. The second step of the overall methodology consists of the nonlinear model predictive control. In order to deliver optimal results for the control, the cost function is first established and a suitable optimization algorithm is selected. Furthermore, stabilizing measures are investigated and implemented to ensure the robust operation of the control strategy. To further collateralize the model predictive approach, a redundant, locally optimal control strategy is incorporated. In the next step, the developed methodology is applied in a simulation environment, respecting certification cycles and everyday driving. The new approach is compared with a locally optimal approach. The results show a consumption advantage with a lower number of engine starts in all cycles. In addition, an advantage in driving safety is identified and the real-time capability is evaluated. The fuel consumption and driving safety advantages are contrasted by significant disadvantages in system excitation, model generation, and traceability, among others. This leads to the conclusion that the developed approach should not be pursued in this version. Finally, subsequent research focusing on predictive-adaptive approaches is recommended., Stetig wachsende Anforderungen an die Schadstoffemissionen und den Kraftstoffverbrauch von Kraftfahrzeugen treiben unter anderem die Entwicklung von lokal emissionsfreien Antrieben voran. Dies führt zu den modellprädiktiven Regelungsmethoden, welche jedoch oftmals nicht echtzeitfähig sind oder dies nur durch die Linearisierung einfachster physikalischer Modelle erreichen. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Entwicklung datenbasierter, modellprädiktiver Methoden, welche keinerlei Linearisierungen enthalten, aber dennoch eine echtzeitfähige Anwendung ermöglichen. Nach Ausführung der notwendigen Grundlagen folgt die Beschreibung einer zweiteiligen Methodik. Im ersten Schritt wird das nichtlineare, dynamische Prozessverhalten des hybriden Antriebsstrangs mithilfe von Systemidentifikationsmethoden approximiert. Da die gängigen Methoden der Systemidentifikation aufgrund des komplexen, dynamisch gekoppelten Systems unzureichende Modellgenauigkeiten produzieren, wird eine erweiterte Time-Delay-Neural-Network-Architektur vorgeschlagen. Diese weist insbesondere hinsichtlich der beabsichtigten Anwendung eine ausreichende Modellgüte und Vorteile in der Berechnungseffizienz und der Modellstabilität auf. Der zweite Schritt der Gesamtmethodik besteht aus der nichtlinearen modellprädiktiven Regelung. Damit die Regelung anschließend optimale Ergebnisse liefert, wird zuvor deren Bewertungsfunktion aufgestellt und ein geeigneter Optimierungsalgorithmus ausgewählt. Um eine robuste Arbeitsweise der Regelung zu ermöglichen, werden zusätzlich stabilisierende Maßnahmen untersucht und implementiert. Als weitere Absicherung des modellprädiktiven Ansatzes dient eine redundante, lokal optimale Betriebsstrategie. Anschließend folgt die Anwendung der entwickelten Methodik in einer Simulationsumgebung für Zertifizierungszyklen und Alltagsfahrten. Die Methodik wird mit einem lokal optimalen Ansatz verglichen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen bei allen Zyklen einen Verbrauchsvorteil bei geringerer Anzahl von Motorstarts auf. Zudem werden Vorteile in der Fahrsicherheit erkannt und die Echtzeitfähigkeit wird evaluiert. Den Verbrauchs- und Fahrsicherheits-Vorteilen stehen signifikante Nachteile unter anderem in der Systemanregung, der Modellgenerierung und der Nachvollziehbarkeit gegenüber. Dies führt zum Schluss, den entwickelten Ansatz in dieser Ausführung nicht weiterzuverfolgen. Schlussendlich werden anknüpfende Forschungen mit prädiktiv-adaptiven Ansätzen empfohlen. Die entwickelten Systemidentifikationsmethoden können jedoch bei anderen Anwendungen bedeutende Möglichkeiten eröffnen.

A robust and reliable environment perception in all weather conditions is an important premise for autonomous vehicles. While current environment perception systems based on neural networks such as semantic segmentation approaches deliver good results in good weather conditions, being confronted with adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog or snow is still a challenging task today. The reason is that they are disturbed by adverse weather effects which may cause sensor disturbances or bad visibility. This thesis addresses these difficulties coming up with adverse weather effects. Two different approaches are presented how to overcome this problem and to increase robustness and performance of environment perception systems in adverse weather conditions in the case of semantic segmentation. One possibility to improve the segmentation accuracy is to consider image information of previous video frames as well as the current video frame. This reduces the number of ghost objects and the number of flickering pixels within a video sequence. For instance, temporal image information can be captured by means of recurrent neural networks. Therefore, a state-of-the-art segmentation approach is extended with recurrent units. The drawback of this video-segmentation method is that it is time-intensive so that its network architecture and the recurrent units are optimized further to accelerate the proposed segmentation approach with only a slight loss of performance. The second approach how to increase the robustness in adverse weather conditions is to use not only camera information but also additional environment information from other sensors, e.g. lidar sensor. The motivation is that different sensor types are disturbed differently in diverse adverse weather conditions. The failure of one sensor may be still compensated by the environment data recorded by the other sensors. In this thesis, a semantic segmentation approach is developed, which uses camera and lidar data to increase the overall performance and robustness in adverse weather conditions. More concretely, the sensor data are fused at proper positions by means of a fusion unit, which weights each modality by means of its noise level. Noiseless sensor data are weighted more strongly than disturbed sensor data, so that the neural network is affected by noisy data to a smaller extent. Finally, both approaches are evaluated on different datasets and are compared with current state-of-the-art segmentation approaches. Special attention is paid to their performance and robustness in various adverse weather conditions. It turns out that the use of temporal information and the use of different sensor data increase the robustness and performance of current segmentation approaches in these conditions.

In the past, visual output devices and haptic input devices dominated human-computer interaction. Thus, much research and development have been done in the field of graphical user interfaces, and engineers developed plenty of input devices for use by hands. However, technological advances in machine learning, semiconductor manufacturing, and signal processing enabled sophisticated auditory and voice-based interfaces. Those allow for more natural interaction between humans and technology, and created new ways of processing and interacting with acoustic signals. How those novel interfaces need to be designed will be studied and discussed in this thesis. In this work, the entities which humans interact with are split into three areas: human-human interaction, interaction with the physical surroundings, and human-machine interaction. In human-human interaction, only computer-supported verbal communication was investigated since the computer as a mediator enables new qualities such as persistence. Asynchronous voice messages as a novel and emerging form of communication were found to be perceived as enabling more efficient communication, helping to handle secondary occupations, and better facilitating the maintenance of close relationships as text-based communication in a first work. Building on this, I developed a concept for manipulating and augmenting such voice messages and presented an effective implementation. As an example of interaction with the physical surroundings, the alteration of the acoustic perception via wearable audio technology has widespread applications and diverse uses. I gathered current headphone usage and demands and applications for future devices via focus groups. Based on the insights, the concept of a per audio-source alteration of the acoustic surrounding was developed and tested. It was found to allow for a comfortable, informative soundscape while satisfying the need for isolation in our dynamic and busy world. In the setting of human-machine interaction, voice interfaces will be investigated in a final step. A comparison of efficient, utilitarian voice assistants and one with full sentences highlights the difference between human-human and human-computer interaction. Overall, the three identified settings in auditory interaction have been investigated from a theoretical and practical point of view to optimize auditory interaction and present novel possibilities enabled by recent technology., In der Vergangenheit dominierten visuelle Ausgabegeräte und haptische Eingabegeräte die Interaktion zwischen Mensch und Computer. Daher wurde viel Forschung und Entwicklung auf dem Gebiet der grafischen Benutzeroberflächen betrieben, und Ingenieure entwickelten zahlreiche Eingabegeräte für die Hände. Die technologischen Fortschritte im Bereich des maschinellen Lernens, der Halbleiterfertigung und der Signalverarbeitung ermöglichen jedoch hochentwickelte sprachbasierte Benutzerschnittstellen. Diese ermöglichen eine natürliche Interaktion zwischen Mensch und Technik und schaffen neue Möglichkeiten der Verarbeitung und Interaktion mit akustischen Signalen aus der Umwelt. Wie diese Schnittstellen und Interaktion gestaltet werden soll, wird in dieser Arbeit untersucht und diskutiert. In dieser Arbeit werden die Entitäten, mit denen Menschen interagieren, in drei Bereiche unterteilt: die Mensch-Mensch-Interaktion, die Interaktion mit der physischen Umgebung und die Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion. In der Mensch-Mensch-Interaktion wurde ausschließlich die computergestützte verbale Kommunikation untersucht. Asynchrone Sprachnachrichten als neue und aufkommende Kommunikationsform wurden als effizientere Kommunikation wahrgenommen, die besser in der Lage ist, mit Nebentätigkeiten umzugehen, und die Aufrechterhaltung enger Beziehungen erleichtert im Vergleich zur textbasierten Kommunikation. Darauf aufbauend wurde ein Konzept zur Bearbeitung und Augmentierung solcher Sprachnachrichten entwickelt und eine Umsetzung vorgestellt. Als Beispiel für die Interaktion mit der physischen Umgebung ist die Veränderung der akustischen Wahrnehmung durch tragbare Audiotechnologie weit verbreitet und vielfältig einsetzbar. In Fokusgruppen wurde die aktuelle Nutzung von Kopfhörern sowie Anforderungen und Anwendungen für zukünftige Geräte erhoben. Basierend auf diesen Erkenntnissen wurde das Konzept einer Veränderung der akustischen Umgebung per Audioquelle entwickelt. Im Rahmen der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion werden in einem letzten Schritt Sprachschnittstellen untersucht. Ein Vergleich zwischen effizienten, funktionalen Sprachassistenten und einem Sprachassistenten mit vollständigen Sätzen verdeutlicht den Unterschied zwischen Mensch-Mensch- und Mensch-Computer-Interaktion. Insgesamt wurden die drei identifizierten Bereiche der auditiven Interaktion unter theoretischen und praktischen Gesichtspunkten untersucht, um die auditive Interaktion zu optimieren und Möglichkeiten zu präsentieren, die durch die neue Technologie ermöglicht werden.

Self-driving vehicles (SDVs) promise enormous potential to increase traffic safety, improve access to mobility, and reduce emissions – provided people accept them. Public approval of SDVs is expected to be linked to their ability to successfully interact with humans. In this context, not only primary users – i.e., riders who decide to use SDVs – but also incidental users – e.g., pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers of conventional vehicles who are forced to interact with SDVs when they encounter them in traffic ─ must be considered. To facilitate the interaction between SDVs and incidental users it has been proposed to equip SDVs with an external human-machine interface (eHMI). The eHMI could display information to traffic participants in its vicinity, e.g., about the SDV’s automated status, its perception of a person, and its intent to yield, or could provide advice, for example, to cross. This PhD project focused on pedestrians’ interactions with SDVs in ambiguous and unsignalized street-crossing scenarios. A first objective of this PhD project was the development and validation of a safe, natural, and parsimonious methodological paradigm to examine pedestrians’ street-crossing behavior (Study I). The paradigm allows relative comparisons between eHMIs in terms of how fast pedestrians initiate street- crossing if the SDV is yielding and whether pedestrians show safe street-crossing if the SDV is nonyielding. Participants indicate their street-crossing decision through the actual behavior of stepping off a sketched sidewalk onto a sketched crosswalk while watching videos of an approaching vehicle on large screens in a lab. Two hidden force-sensitive resistor sensors under the sidewalk capture pedestrians’ crossing onset time. Ultimately, the major objective of this PhD project was the in-depth examination of pedestrians’ informational needs towards eHMIs. For this purpose, three experimental studies were conducted on a test field (Study II) and in labs (Study III, Study IV) in which participants acted as pedestrians. The studies examined eHMI effects on subjective feelings such as trust and perceived safety (Study II, Study III, Study IV). In addition, objective measurements of pedestrians’ street-crossing behavior were evaluated. In this regard, the studies examined the efficiency of eHMIs in promoting fast street- crossing when the SDV is yielding to the pedestrian (Study II, Study III, Study IV) as well as the effectiveness of eHMIs in inducing safe street-crossing if the SDV is failing to yield to the pedestrian in the event of a system malfunction (Study IV). Beyond this, semistructured retrospective interviews were conducted to form a better understanding of pedestrians’ motives (Study II, Study III, Study IV). The findings emphasize that the combined messages of the automated status and the intent for its next maneuver enable pedestrians to form an accurate and complete situation awareness, resulting in positive subjective feelings as well as fast and safe street-crossing when pedestrians interact with SDVs. Without an eHMI, pedestrians struggle to interact in a positive manner with an SDV because they miss seeing a driver. Transparent information about the SDV’s automated status supports pedestrians in comprehending the invalidity of driver factors and thereby reduces the increased complexity that arises in mixed traffic of SDVs and conventional vehicles (Study II, Study III). However, a basic status eHMI is also related to overtrust in and overreliance on the automated driving system as pedestrians build the preconception that SDVs will always yield to them – which may result in unsafe street-crossing if the SDV fails to yield to the pedestrian in the event of a system malfunction (Study IV). Subsequent information about the SDV’s intent supports pedestrians in anticipating the future actions of the SDV (Study II, Study III). This proved to be particularly relevant in enabling pedestrians to detect a system malfunction – i.e., an SDV that is yielding to a pedestrian (status eHMI changes to status+intent eHMI) is clearly distinguishable from an SDV that fails to yield to a pedestrian (status eHMI remains unchanged). In this manner, subsequent information on the SDV’s intent-to-yield promotes a calibrated level of trust as well as safe street-crossing (Study IV). Moreover, the value of providing transparent information on the SDV’s status and intent(-to-yield) to pedestrians was shown to be consistent for various urban traffic situations (Study II) and to remain stable or even increase over time as the number of encounters increases (Study III). Based on its findings and theoretical considerations, this PhD project discourages the use of an eHMI informing about the perception of a person or giving advice to pedestrians. A perception signal is perceived as an obvious gimmick (Study II). An advice eHMI is associated with legal, ethical, and safety issues. Hence, the present PhD project contributes to both measuring eHMI effects and developing eHMIs for successful interactions between SDVs and pedestrians. The discussion provides indications that the study findings might be transferred to other recipients of eHMIs such as cyclists and drivers of conventional vehicles as well as primary users of automated systems such as drivers of SDVs and even other domains of automation. In view of the study findings, strategies for the implementation of and education regarding the eHMIs were developed. Furthermore, the present findings give rise to future research directions – particularly the design of the eHMIs that convey the status and intent of SDVs remains unsolved.

Airborne ground-penetrating synthetic aperture radar (GPSAR) using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offers advantages for many applications compared to established methods. In particular, these systems are useful for non-traversable terrain, where they could be used for the detection and localization of buried objects and structures. At distances of a few meters to the ground, refraction effects at the surface need to be considered in processing even for shallowly buried objects. Often the ground is assumed to be horizontal, which is not the case in many situations, such as uneven meadows or acres. This work investigates the influence of uneven ground on GPSAR images. It is shown that neglecting tilt in backprojection for shallowly buried targets leads to an apparent target shift. A model is derived to predict the shift for circular measurement trajectories and to estimate, if quality loss is to be expected. The model is verified using simulations, which are verified by measurement. It is concluded that tilt can be neglected in processing for shallowly buried targets. Organic compounds are carbon-based molecules that cluster into structures that are flexible, light-interacting and their electrical conductivity lies between that of an insulator and a semiconductor. They are cheap and easily recyclable, some self-aggregate while others can be self-repaired. They can be printed onto many different surfaces for all sorts of purposes, from energy storage to light energy harvesting. This impeccable portfolio of organic materials is heavily tarnished by their reputation of having a low power performance and being easily degradable, and the advancement of these green materials in the industrial energy landscape has yet to find more durable and scalable solutions. Notwithstanding, the spectacular progress that has taken place during the last decade in the laboratories exploring organic and hybrid compounds may revolutionize both the energy and semiconductor industries at the design and foundry level that rely the more and more on the mining of rare earth materials. The links between molecules in organic aggregates are based on noncovalent forces, which makes them relatively soft and disordered. The energy range of these weak, electronic bonds is close to that of the vibrational motion of the nuclei. For example, the double and triple carbon-carbon bonds and other long-lived intramolecular vibrations have frequencies that are high enough to mingle with electronic excitations, modulating their motion quite noticeably. For this reason we call these aggregates vibronic, as a reminder of the intimate interaction between electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom. More importantly, the mixing between vibrations and electrons may even trigger or prevent some desired events, which makes them very useful as engineering materials. If we learn one day how to tune these vibronic antennae networks into efficient biosynthetic devices, who knows what kind of technologies and devices can emerge from the merging and manipulation of sound, light and electricity? It is clear that Nature hasn’t spared this opportunity. Since electrons and vibrations operate at similar time scales, approximate theories that treat vibrations as small perturbations cannot be applied. Modeling realistic dissipative effects requires the electronic states and intramolecular vibrations to interact with quantized vibrational reservoirs at finite temperatures, making simulations of spatially extended vibronic systems particularly challenging. However, the ability to perform this type of simulations is crucial to make further progress in the understanding of transfer phenomena at the microscopic level and, in particular, discerning the possible relevance of coherent effects in the dynamics of these complexes. In the present work, we introduce a method that addresses challenges of existing methods and is able to simulate efficiently composite vibronic systems of many sites with highly structured environments. The method is composed by an efficient representation of vibronic states based in tensor networks. The structured vibrational environment will be modeled after a collection of dissipative oscillators based on a recent formulation of pseudomode theories in Open Quantum Systems. The intrinsic decoherence mechanism of the dissipative oscillator solves the “explosion” of quantum correlations that is associated with the unitary dynamics of a system plus environment model and extends considerably the available system size and time duration of simulations. One of the intentions of this dissertation is to provide also some sort of construction manual for those interested in implementing a version of the DAMPF method while learning about it. Tensors products can be initially scary because of their rough notation, so I have opted for an unorthodox geometrical representation that I believe is more gullible for newcomers. This manuscript contains everything one needs to build a minimal version of the algorithm without many intricacies.

Human African Trypanosomiasis, a tropical disease induced by infections with the African trypanosome, is termed a neglected disease due to the lack of efficient diagnostic methods. This results in a late detection of the disease in an advanced stage, when patients are already suffering severe damage to their nervous system. To enable more effective containment and treatment strategies, new and improved methods for the detection and classification of infections are urgently needed. In this thesis, the foundations for a sensor platform are laid, which aims to detect trypanosomes in samples of patients’ body fluids by analysis with electromagnetic waves in the terahertz spectrum. In this context, methods for a precise characterization of the electromagnetic properties of African trypanosome cells under different conditions are developed. Based on this fundamental knowledge, designs for passive, planar electromagnetic sensors based on metallic split-ring resonators are devised and investigated w.r.t. their capability to detect the parasite. Subsequently, a fabrication technology for passive metallic micro-resonators on PET film is demonstrated, which is robust, bio-compatible, and promotes the analysis with mm-waves. An emphasis is put on the compatibility to bio-engineered functional aptamers, which introduce additional selectivity by assisting in the aggregation of target cells from conglomerates. Based on this technology, several candidate designs for sensor packages are presented, which are optimized for different compositions of the sample material.

Interaction between humans and machines is becoming increasingly voice-based. There are numerous, different contexts in which human-machine interaction can take place, from smart home control to tutor systems to spoken dialog systems in vehicles. As numerous as these interaction contexts are, they each pose individual requirements that need to be taken into account in their development. In this context, the current trend is moving away from formerly command-based interaction toward natural-language, adaptive systems that flexibly adapt to the respective user in a specific interaction context according to the model of human-human communication. This becomes particularly relevant in interaction contexts where a user performs a secondary task in parallel to a so-called primary task, such as interacting with a spoken dialog system while driving a car. For safety reasons, a driver’s attention here has to focus on the primary task of driving, while the voice interaction with a system has to run in parallel. In this context, the execution of a secondary task represents an additional cognitive load on the driver, which may affect his or her driving performance and the associated driving safety. In order to counteract this danger according to the model of successful interpersonal communication, the development of an in-vehicle dialog system should take into account both the individual user and the respective interaction context. In this regard, the concept of linguistic alignment represents a particularly valuable mechanism to design human-machine interaction in a natural, efficient, and intuitive way. In this context, this thesis presents an approach for developing a user- and situation-adaptive strategy in the automotive context, focusing on the syntactic design of voice output with reference to syntax as an elementary component of hu- man language. For this purpose, various user studies addressing language perception and production were conducted in order to exploratively characterize individual user characteristics and influencing factors of driver distraction and user experience with different syntactic forms in voice-based interaction besides driving a vehicle. In particular, the user personality within the framework of the Big Five model was proven to be a reliable tool in this context. Based on these findings, this thesis presents a user- and situation-adaptation strategy focusing on the syntactic complexity of in-vehicle voice output by aligning the syntactic features of realistic spoken driver language with evidenced user preferences regarding the syntactic design of voice output. An evaluation of this adaptation strategy in the context of a user study in actual road traffic revealed a demonstrably enhanced user experience compared to a non-adaptive standard system. In contrast, an effect on driver distraction by applying the developed strat- egy could not be proven. The findings and achievements presented in this thesis nevertheless provide a valid basis for the development of intuitive, natural dialog systems in dual-task environments.

Service robots are complex, software-intensive systems that must handle their tasks in a robust and reliable way in dynamic environments. Due to these complexities, structures and tools must exist that support the development of service robot systems for service robot applications sensibly. The resulting reduced effort of the development shall justify the deployment of robot technologies for many users from an economical perspective. This is the goal of a robotics software ecosystem. A robotics software ecosystem relies on a building block principle. That means, service robot sys- tems can be composed out of reusable software building blocks. Likewise, the principle of separation of roles is of central importance so that the development process can be divided to different persons with different tasks according to their respective expertise. Different building blocks and systems respectively have different properties (in particular non- functional properties) and various applications have various requirements related to these properties. The matching of these two forms of variability taking into account the variability of an environment is the task of variability management in a robotics software ecosystem. By this, the development of service robotic systems is not just supported somehow but requirement-related. This thesis provides a general method for the variability management in a robotics software ecosystem and includes the modeling of building blocks and their properties, the composition of the properties of composed systems in dependence of the available configuration variants and states of the environment, the specification of requirements as well as the determination of an adequate (composed) variant according to the current situation. The application of the models that can be created based on the methodological blueprint by build- ing block developers allow for an automatic configuration of customized robotic systems according to the requirements of the end users. In addition, the principles of composition and separation of roles supported by the general method ensure that the effort of creating such models for the building block developers is significantly reduced. The thesis thus contributes to the general goal of a robotics software ecosystem mentioned above., Serviceroboter sind komplexe, softwareintensive Systeme, die ihre Aufgaben robust und zuverlässig in dynamischen Umgebungen bewältigen müssen. Aufgrund dieser Komplexitäten müssen Strukturen und Werkzeuge existieren, die die Entwicklung von Servicerobotersystemen für Serviceroboteran- wendungen sinnvoll unterstützen. Der daraus resultierende reduzierte Aufwand der Entwicklung soll den Einsatz von Robotertechnologie für viele Anwender aus ökonomischer Sicht rechtfertigen. Dieses Ziel hat ein Robotik Software Ökosystem. Ein Robotik Software Ökosystem setzt auf ein Baukastenprinzip, das heißt, Servicerobotersys- teme können aus wiederverwendbaren Softwarebausteinen zusammengesetzt werden. Ebenfalls ist das Prinzip der Rollentrennung von zentraler Bedeutung, so dass der Entwicklungsprozess auf ver- schiedene Personen mit unterschiedlichen, ihrer Expertise entsprechenden, Aufgaben verteilt ist. Unterschiedliche Bausteine beziehungsweise Systeme besitzen unterschiedliche Eigenschaften (insbesondere nicht-funktionale Eigenschaften) und verschiedene Anwendungen haben verschiedene Anforderungen bezüglich dieser Eigenschaften. Das Abgleichen dieser beiden Formen von Variabil- ität unter Berücksichtigung der Variabilität einer Umgebung ist die Aufgabe von Variabilitätsmanage- ment in einem Robotik Software Ökosystem. Damit wird die Entwicklung von Servicerobotersyste- men nicht nur irgendwie, sondern anforderungsbezogen unterstützt. Diese Arbeit liefert eine allgemeine Methode für das Variabilitätsmanagement in einem Robotik Software Ökosystem und umfasst das Modellieren von Bausteinen und deren Eigenschaften, das Zusammensetzen der Eigenschaften für zusammengesetzte Systeme in Abhängigkeit der vorhandenen Konfigurationsvarianten und Zuständen der Umgebung, das Spezifizieren der Anforderungen sowie das Ermitteln einer angemessenen, der aktuellen Situation entsprechenden (zusammengesetzten) Vari- ante. Die Modelle, die auf Basis der methodischen Blaupause durch Bausteinentwickler erstellt wer- den können, ermöglichen eine automatische Konfiguration von maßgeschneiderten Robotiksystemen entsprechend der Anforderungen von Endnutzern. Darüberhinaus sorgen die durch die allgemeine Methode unterstützten Prinzipien der Komposition und Rollentrennung dafür, dass der Aufwand der Entwicklung solcher Modelle für die Bausteinentwickler maßgeblich reduziert wird. Damit trägt die Arbeit zu dem oben genannten allgemeinen Ziel eines Robotik Software Ökosystems bei.

In this thesis, bio-chemical sensors with optical read-out are investigated. They are characterized in various experimental situations and optimized for optimal sensitivity in later applications in labs, hospitals, or industry. The sensor is formed by a GaN/InGaN heterostructure located closely to the surface enabling optical signal readout via optical excitation. The band structure of the heterostructure reacts to changes of the surface potential by adsorption or chemisorption of molecules on the surface leading to a chance of its photoluminescence signal wavelength and intensity. This change is caused by the quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE). A compact, machine-controlled setup is presented with a GaN-based diode laser for excitation, a cheap and effective split-diode detection unit, and a liquid flow setup with electronic valves. Simulations are performed to optimize the split-diode detection unit and possible future improvements are presented. The standard characterization experiment for testing sensor performance in this thesis is the alternating flow of isopropanol vs. deionized water over the sensor surface, where the altered PL response is a measure for overall sensitivity. To optimize the band structure of the sensors for sensitivity, systematic 1D-simulations using the software tool nextnano are performed. Nextnano calculates the spectral response of the sensor with respect to the variation of design parameters such as doping concentration, cap layer thickness, quantum well thickness as well as the indium content. Subsequent growth series are used to verify the found trends and predictions and to grow an ideal heterostructure. The influence of ambient substances on the sensor structure is investigated in various experiments. We observed a change of the sensor response over time particularly at high excitation powers which could be fairly minimized by lower excitation powers. The most probable effects responsible for this behaviour are photoassisted chemisorption of ambient oxygen and persistent photoconductivity. With subsequently applied low-excitation densities, this sensor drift can be greatly reduced and thus the sensor be used for fairly stable sensing experiments. The influence of the fluidic and optical setup on the sensor response is also investigated. Simulations predicted that the lowest possible excitation power is beneficial for sensor performance. Contrary to our expectations, performed experiments showed an optimum excitation density at medium low excitation. One possible explanation for this effect are additional loss channels occurring at very low excitations and thus surface potentials reducing sensor performance. In the last chapter, biosensing is performed with ferritin, the molecule which transports iron in blood, and its empty state apoferritin. The discriminability of apoferritin and ferritin, both solved in saline buffer solution is proven by liquid flow experiments with our sensor structure. All samples are grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) and characterized by photoluminescence (PL) experiments for sensing, X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, and Hall experiments.

Advancements in display and sensor technology have led to virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) progressing from devices mainly used for research purposes to everyday end user technology. The devices are used in a broad range of application areas, particularly for training and educational purposes. Such applications leverage the advantage of the devices of being able to create ecologically valid environments allowing us to study human behavior in a controlled, safe, and realistic way. Furthermore, consumer users are increasingly adopting the devices, anticipating their potential to become an integral part of our everyday device repertoire. However, current VR HMDs expose users to digital eye strain (DES) - a rapidly spreading health problem in today's digital society. DES collectively refers to eye and vision problems caused by prolonged exposure to digital screens. Its non-specific symptoms, such as dry eyes, eye ache, or blurred vision, affect the users' overall quality of life and general well-being. While a large body of work exists on DES in conventional displays, the problem has only marginally been addressed in the context and development of VR HMDs - despite them carrying inherent properties that make them particularly prone (e.g., coverage of large parts of the field of view, close distance to the eyes). Besides such technical factors, the context of use inherently increases the problem, as the goal of VR experiences is usually to immerse the users in the virtual environment, which may lead to prolonged and extended exposures. This dissertation lays the foundation for researching DES in VR HMDs by analyzing properties, causes, and solutions to the problem and setting it into context with other types of discomfort occurring in VR HMDs. To that end, it applies two complementary views allowing it to analyze the problem from a user-driven and a technology-driven perspective. The thesis is structured into four parts. First, it provides an analysis of the properties of the two views user and VR HMD, which are the main stakeholders in the interactive system of interest. It explores the interaction possibilities between the two using a morphological analysis, the results of which are presented as a two-dimensional design space. In a second step, the thesis presents a literature survey on the user-driven and technology-driven causes of DES that are currently present in the human-computer interaction literature. The survey results reveal a lack of user-driven solutions. Building on these results, in the third part, two solutions to alleviate DES symptoms are developed and empirically evaluated. One solution consists of short visual tasks that have to be performed actively by the users (user-driven eye exercises) and one that can passively be integrated into device use (technology-driven blue light filtering). The two solutions are evaluated in three quantitative user studies (N=28, N=24, and N=19), revealing that the user-driven solution (eye exercises) is successful in reducing symptoms, while the technology-driven solution (blue light filtering) did not have a reducing effect on symptoms. In the fourth and final part of the thesis, the problem of DES is set into perspective with two other important types of discomfort occurring in VR HMDs (simulator sickness and ergonomic symptoms). The relationship between the three symptom types and their individual contribution to general discomfort is formalized with an exploratory factor analysis. Then, the severity of the three symptom categories is compared in a user study (N=352), revealing that DES and ergonomic symptoms are more prevalent and severe than the currently dominantly researched problem of simulator sickness. The dissertation concludes with a number of overreaching findings: (1) The interaction on VR HMDs carries unique properties that promote the occurrence of DES symptoms. (2) The search for causes has currently dominantly focused on technology-driven causes, and user-driven solutions are rare. (3) The problem of DES is prevalent and severe in the users of VR HMDs but is currently not sufficiently addressed neither by VR HMD experience developers nor by the research community. (4) Solutions should be designed in a way that they can be integrated into device use; one example for such a solution are short visual tasks can be employed to reduce symptoms. (5) There are external factors, such as users' susceptibility or sex, that further drive the experience of DES symptoms. (6) In addition to these main insights into DES in VR HMDs, this dissertation provides an analysis of general discomfort, consisting of at least three main factors (DES, simulator sickness, and ergonomic symptoms) and provides an extended factor structure that can be used to build a more timely and comprehensive discomfort measure for VR HMDs. These findings implicate the importance of DES for future research and highlight that our understanding of discomfort should proceed with the technology., Fortschritte in der Display- und Sensortechnologie führten dazu, dass sich Datenbrillen für die Virtuelle Realität (VR) von primär für Forschungszwecke genutzte Geräte zu einer alltäglichen Technologie für Endverbraucher:innen entwickelt haben. Die Geräte werden in vielen Anwendungsbereichen eingesetzt, insbesondere zu Schulungs- und Ausbildungszwecken. Solche Anwendungen nutzen den Vorteil der Geräte, dass sie ökologisch valide Umgebungen schaffen können, um menschliches Verhalten auf kontrollierte, sichere und realistische Weise zu untersuchen. Weiterhin wächst das Interesse von Verbraucher:innen für die Geräte erheblich, was deren Potential zeigt Teil unseres alltäglichen Geräterepertoires zu werden. Aktuelle VR-Datenbrillen setzen Nutzer:innen jedoch digitaler Augenbelastung (DES) aus - ein sich in der heutigen digitalen Gesellschaft rasch ausbreitendes Gesundheitsproblem. DES bezieht sich auf Augen- und Sehprobleme, die durch längeres Betrachten von digitalen Bildschirmen verursacht werden. Die unspezifischen Symptome, wie trockene Augen, Augenschmerzen oder verschwommenes Sehen, beeinträchtigen die Lebensqualität und das allgemeine Wohlbefinden der Nutzer:innen. Während es zahlreiche Arbeiten zu DES bei herkömmlichen Bildschirmen gibt, wurde das Problem im Zusammenhang mit VR-Datenbrillen bisher nur am Rande behandelt - obwohl diese aufgrund einiger Eigenschaften (z.B. Abdeckung großer Teile des Sichtfelds, geringer Abstand zu den Augen) besonders anfällig sind. Neben technischen Faktoren verschärft der Nutzungskontext das Problem, da das Ziel von VR-Erlebnissen oft darin besteht, die Nutzer:innen in die virtuelle Umgebung zu immersieren, was längeren Nutzen und so Symptome begünstigt. Diese Dissertation legt den Grundstein für Untersuchungen von DES mit VR-Datenbrillen, indem sie Eigenschaften, Ursachen und Lösungen analysiert und das Problem in einen Kontext mit anderen Beschwerdearten, die in VR-Datenbrillen vorkommen, setzt. Hierzu werden zwei komplementäre Blickwinkel eingenommen, die es ermöglichen, das Problem aus einer nutzungs- und einer technologieorientierten Perspektive zu analysieren. Die Arbeit gliedert sich in vier Teile. Zunächst werden die Eigenschaften der beiden Hauptbestandteile des interaktiven Systems, Nutzer:in und VR-Datenbrille, analysiert. Interaktionsmöglichkeiten zwischen den beiden Teilen werden mittels einer morphologischen Analyse untersucht. In einem zweiten Schritt präsentiert die Arbeit eine Literaturübersicht über die nutzungs- und technologieorientierten Ursachen von DES, die derzeit in der Literatur zur Mensch-Computer-Interaktion zu finden sind. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen Mangel an nutzungsorientierten Lösungen. Darauf aufbauend werden im dritten Teil zwei Lösungen entwickelt und in drei Studien (N=28, N=24 und N=19) empirisch evaluiert. Eine Lösung besteht aus kurzen Sehaufgaben, die von den Nutzer:innen aktiv durchgeführt werden müssen (nutzungsorientierte Augenübungen), und eine, die passiv in die Gerätenutzung integriert werden kann (technologieorientierte Blaulichtfilterung). Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die nutzungsorientierte Lösung (Augenübungen) erfolgreich zur Verringerung der Symptome beiträgt, während die technologieorientierte Lösung (Blaulichtfilterung) keine Verringerung der Symptome bewirkte. Im vierten und letzten Teil der Arbeit wird das Problem DES mit zwei anderen wichtigen Beschwerdearten (Simulatorkrankheit und ergonomische Symptome) in Beziehung gesetzt. Die Beziehung zwischen den drei Symptomtypen und ihr individueller Beitrag zum allgemeinen Unbehagen wird mit einer explorativen Faktorenanalyse formalisiert. Anschließend wird der Schweregrad der drei Symptomkategorien in einer Studie (N=352) verglichen. Dabei zeigt sich, dass DES und ergonomische Symptome häufiger und schwerwiegender sind als das derzeit am häufigsten untersuchte Problem der Simulatorkrankheit. Die Dissertation schließt mit einer Reihe von übergreifenden Erkenntnissen: (1) Die Interaktion mit VR-Datenbrillen weist einzigartige Eigenschaften auf, die das Auftreten von DES begünstigen. (2) Die Suche nach den Ursachen konzentriert sich derzeit vor allem auf technologieorientierte Ursachen und nutzungsorientierte Lösungen sind selten. (3) Das Problem DES ist bei den Nutzer:innen von VR-Datenbrillen weit verbreitet und schwerwiegend, wird aber derzeit weder von Anwendungen noch von der Forschungsgemeinschaft ausreichend angegangen. (4) Lösungen sollten so konzipiert werden, dass sie in die Nutzung des Geräts integriert werden können; ein Beispiel sind kurze Sehaufgaben, die zur Verringerung der Symptome eingesetzt werden können. (5) Es gibt externe Faktoren, wie die Anfälligkeit oder das Geschlecht der Nutzer:innen, die das Auftreten von Symptomen zusätzlich beeinflussen. (6) Zusätzlich zu diesen wichtigen Erkenntnissen über DES mit VR-Datenbrillen bietet die Dissertation eine Analyse allgemeiner Beschwerden, bestehend aus drei Hauptfaktoren (DES, Simulatorkrankheit und ergonomische Symptome). Die Faktorenstruktur legt die Grundlage für ein zeitgemäßes und umfassenderes Maß für Beschwerden mit VR-Datenbrillen. Diese Ergebnisse verdeutlichen die Bedeutung von DES für die zukünftige Forschung und zeigen, dass unser Verständnis von Beschwerden, die mit einer bestimmten Technologie auftreten können, ständig reevaluiert werden sollte.

Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) have recently attracted researchers’ attention as a way to promote the driving experience by extending the driver’s view through wireless data exchange. ITS applications have become prevalent, varying from safety and accident avoidance to leisure and entertainment. The data dissemination routine differs according to the delay tolerance of the application. Location awareness and destination prediction are vital for delay-tolerant applications and protocols, where the best next hop must be chosen for efficient data dissemination. While location awareness offers reactive driving capabilities, mobility prediction enables appealing proactive experiences for a wide range of ITS location-aware services and applications. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), classifies the vehicles according to the intelligence level and automation capabilities into six classes, where zero stands for no automation and five stands for full automation. This work aims to create a seventh class by extending the concept of the vehicle’s intelligence beyond autonomous driving to include predicting the driver’s destinations. The suggested Spatial-Social-Temporal-Semantic Model (also referred to as the four-dimensional model or 4D model) is the first model to combine the semantic properties of both the locations of interest and the social relations affecting drivers’ mobility. The proposed model utilises an optimisation algorithm to combine the different model dimensions and to accommodate changes in human mobility behaviour. Furthermore, the work extends the vehicles’ view of locations beyond geographical coordinates, adding a context-aware dimension that includes the semantic features of the points of interest to the map representation. To increase the model’s reliability, we propose methods for calculating the input independently of mobility traces, which are often unavailable. To compute the input social network’s tie strength, we develop a model called Social-Spatial-Context Encounter Frequency (SSCEF). This model provides a new definition of social tie strength and formalises an optimisation-based model within the context of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) to quantify the strength according to the suggested definition. Furthermore, it demonstrates that certain contextual information and similarities between users are directly linked to the social tie strength driving their mobility activities. The experimental results demonstrate that the optimised 4D predictor significantly outperforms state-of-the-art approaches. It achieves an average accuracy of 95% when trained using and validated against the data-set collected in the city of Ulm, Germany for the purpose of this study. In addition to destination prediction, the presented approach lays the groundwork for a realistic mobility model capable of simulating the mobility activities of an input social network with great precision, independently of mobility traces.

Product lines manage families of products that share a common set of features. Feature models are the predominant formalism to model the variability of product lines. Real-world product lines often become so large and complex that automated analyses of feature models are necessary. For such analyses, efficient tools are needed to handle the complexity. To assess which automated reasoning engines are suitable for that task, complex feature models are required for evaluation by automated reasoning engines to accurately test the tools’ performance under conditions relevant in practice. For development and selection of efficient tools, evaluations have to be comparable. Currently, researchers typically use strongly differing sets of feature models. A widely adopted set of practically relevant feature models could improve comparability in the future and help researchers and practitioners select promising tools. We conduct a systematic literature review of papers containing empirical evaluations of feature models with automated reasoning engines. During our literature search, we collect feature models suitable for empirical evaluations that are relevant in practice. We build a repository with the feature models we find to provide a public feature-model benchmark to the research community. We also characterize how feature models are used and published in literature. Our results after selecting 398 papers show that only half of them used real-world feature models for evaluations. We also find that more than half of the papers took feature models from earlier publications or repositories. SPLOT is the most popular resource of feature models. Large, real-world feature models are rarely published, but the few that are, are often used. For our feature-model benchmark, we identify 158 real-world feature models from different domains like software, automotive and finance and sizes of 234 to 76,820 features. We make the collected feature-model benchmark publicly available and invite researchers and practitioners to use the feature models and contribute new ones.

In communication theory, discrete-time end-to-end channel models play a fundamental role in developing advanced transmission and equalization schemes. Most notable, the discrete-time linear, dispersive channel with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is often used to model point-to-point transmission scenarios. In the last decades, numerous transmission methods for such linear channels have emerged and are now applied in many digital transmission standards. With the advent of high-speed CMOS technology, those schemes have also been adopted in applications for fiber-optical transmission with digital-coherent reception. Many of the applied techniques (e.g., coded modulation, signal shaping, and equalization) are still designed for linear channels whereas the fiber-optical channel is inherently nonlinear. A channel model which obtains the (discrete-time) output symbol sequence from a given (discrete-time) input symbol sequence by an explicit input/output relation is highly desirable to make further advances in developing strategies optimized for fiber-optical transmission. In the past two decades, considerable effort was spent developing channel models for fiber-optical transmission with good trade-offs between computational complexity and numerical accuracy. Most of the early work is, however, concerned with the phenomenology in the optical domain alone, i.e., both the source and the effect of fiber nonlinearity is studied in the continuous-time, optical domain not considering the transmitter and/or receiver front-ends. Here, one promising strategy is, e.g., based on the so-called perturbative approach where non-linear effects are considered as small perturbations to the optical signal. By now, the optical community is faced with a vast number of models based on the perturbation premise, each model with its own assumptions, simplifications, and objectives. The connection between already existing models using complementary views (e.g., one in time-, the other in frequency-domain) is often unclear. A detailed and rigorous derivation for some prominent models is still pending. E.g., the transition from the original continuous-time to the more relevant discrete-time end-to-end model lacks a comprehensive, system-theoretic analysis. Hence, in this dissertation, nonlinear fiber propagation is assessed from a systems-theoretic point of view with applications for communication systems. Based on the theory of nonlinear systems, the present work aims to connect the dots between various, existing channel models, unifying and comparing the different approaches. To that end, the perturbation approach in continuous-time is revisited with a special emphasis on the dual representations of nonlinear systems in time and frequency. From that, a discrete-time end-to-end fiber-optical channel model is derived which includes the transmit-side pulse shaping, the receive-side matched filtering, and T-spaced sampling. As before, two complementary representations of the now time-discretized end-to-end model are present—one in (discrete) time domain, the other in 1/T-periodic continuous-frequency domain. The time-domain formulation coincides with the well-known pulse-collision picture. The novel frequency-domain picture incorporates the sampling operation via an aliased and hence 1/T-periodic formulation of the nonlinear system. This gives rise to an alternative perspective on the end-to-end input/output relation between the spectrum of the discrete-time transmit symbol sequence and the spectrum of the receive symbol sequence. Both views can be extended from a regular, i.e., solely additive model, to a combined regular-logarithmic model to take the multiplicative nature of certain distortions into consideration. A novel algorithmic implementation of the discrete and periodic frequency-domain model is presented. The derived end-to-end model requires only a single computational step and shows good agreement in the mean-squared error sense compared to the oversampled and inherently sequential split-step Fourier method.

Fuel cell power trains are a promising and climate-friendly technology, especially in aviation, since fuel cell systems provide zero CO2 emissions and long flight ranges. One of the greatest challenges is ensuring a sufficient oxygen supply from ambient air to the fuel cell stack. Ambient pressure drops with increasing altitude, and at the same time, the performance of a fuel cell system decreases with lower operating pressure. For this reason, pressurization of the fuel cell supply air is necessary. This thesis investigates the influence of pressure, temperature, and humidity on the performance of a PEM fuel cell system experimentally and based on the findings, a model for the air mass flow and inlet pressure-dependent voltage and power of a 65 kW fuel cell stack is created. Furthermore, a corresponding air supply system, consisting of an air filter, electric turbo compressor, intercooler, membrane humidifier, and throttle valve, is developed and characterized experimentally in a climate chamber and theoretically. The focus is on the shift of the compressor map due to pressure and temperature changes and the resulting operating range of the air supply module. With increasing altitude, the possible air mass flow and the stack outlet pressure decrease significantly. This relationship is explained theoretically, and the operating range for altitudes up to 10 km is calculated. The generated operation maps of the fuel cell stack and the air supply module are merged to determine the performance and efficiency of the coupled system as a function of flight altitude. The results show that high performance is achieved at high mass flow rates and operating pressures. The potential system performance decreases almost linearly with altitude and is, for example, reduced by 20 % at 4000 m flight altitude compared to ground conditions, with system efficiency being 4 % lower for the same power. This work demonstrates the design and performance of an air supply system for airborne fuel cell systems and describes the resulting system performance., Brennstoffzellenantriebe sind besonders in der Luftfahrt eine zukunftsweisende und klimafreundliche Technologie, da Brennstoffzellensysteme kein CO2 ausstoßen und eine hohe Reichweite ermöglichen. Eine der größten Herausforderungen hierbei ist die ausreichende Versorgung des Brennstoffzellenstacks mit Sauerstoff aus der Umgebungsluft. Der Umgebungsdruck sinkt mit steigender Flughöhe stark ab und gleichzeitig sinkt die Leistungsfähigkeit eines Brennstoffzellensystems mit geringerem Betriebsdruck. Aus diesem Grund ist eine Druckaufladung der Brennstoffzellenzuluft notwendig. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird der Einfluss von Druck, Temperatur und Feuchtigkeit auf die Leistungsfähigkeit eines PEM Brennstoffzellensystems experimentell untersucht und darauf aufbauend ein Model zur Bestimmung der Spannung und Leistung eines 65 kW Brennstoffzellenstacks in Abhängigkeit von Luftmassenstrom und Einlassdruck erstellt. Im Weiteren wird ein entsprechendes Luftversorgungsmodul, bestehend aus Luftfilter, elektrischem Turboverdichter, Ladeluftkühler, Membran Befeuchter und Drosselklappe, entwickelt und sowohl experimentell in einer Klimakammer, als auch theoretisch charakterisiert. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf der Verschiebung des Verdichter Kennfelds durch Druck- und Temperaturänderungen und dem daraus resultierenden Betriebsbereich des Luftversorgungsmoduls. Mit zunehmender Flughöhe sinken der mögliche Luftmassenstrom und der Stackeinlassdruck signifikant. Dieser Zusammenhang wird theoretisch erklärt und der Betriebsbereich für Flughöhen bis 10 km berechnet. Die generierten Kennfelder des Brennstoffzellenstacks und des Luftversorgungsmoduls werden zusammengeführt, um die Leistungsfähigkeit und Effizienz des gekoppelten Systems in Abhängigkeit der Flughöhe zu ermitteln. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass hohe Leistungen bei hohen Massenströmen und hohen Betriebsdrücken erreicht werden. Die mögliche Systemleistung nimmt annähernd linear mit der Flughöhe ab und ist beispielsweise bei 4000 m Flughöhe gegenüber Startbedingungen um 20 % reduziert, wobei die Systemeffizienz bei gleicher Leistung um 4 % geringer ist. In dieser Arbeit wird die Auslegung und die Leistungsfähigkeit eines Luftversorgungsmoduls für Brennstoffzellensysteme in der Luftfahrt aufgezeigt und die daraus resultierende Systemleistung beschrieben.

Mit Industrie 4.0 soll die Vision einer vernetzten Produktion vorangetrieben werden. Insbesondere das Zusammenspiel von Soft- und Hardware in Cyberphysischen Systemen bietet ein enormes Potenzial für intelligente Services in der Produktion, etwa zur vorausschauenden Wartung von Maschinen (engl. Predictive Maintenance). Produzierende Unternehmen erhoffen sich u.a. durch präzise Vorhersagen eines Maschinenausfalls verbesserte Möglichkeiten zur Produktionssteuerung und -planung, verbunden mit einer kosteneffektiven und kontextbezogenen Wartung. Der Weg von der heute inflexiblen Wartung hin zu Predictive Maintenance Anwendungen erfordert allerdings einen komplexen Prozess, dessen Implementierung produzierende Unternehmen vor große Herausforderungen stellt. Aufgrund der technischen Fortschritte der letzten Jahre, insbesondere Sensorik und Industrial Internet of Things, wird die digitale Erzeugung, Verarbeitung und Speicherung von Maschinendaten stark erleichtert. Durch diese Entwicklung entstehen große Datenmengen in der Produktion, so dass das Verständnis dieser Daten für die Realisierung intelligenter Predictive Maintenance Anwendungen einen entscheidenden Faktor darstellt. Die Untersuchung der Daten auf Trends, Zusammenhänge und ungewöhnliches Verhalten liefert wichtige Erkenntnisse für die Entwicklung einer Predictive Maintenance Anwendung. In Industrie 4.0 Szenarien wird das Datenverständnis aufgrund hochdimensionaler und großer Datensätze allerdings erschwert. Benutzer benötigen hier passende Methoden und Werkzeuge zum Umgang mit diesen komplexen Daten. Optimalerweise können diese Methoden die spezifischen Anforderungen und Eigenschaften der Produktion berücksichtigen, etwa durch Berücksichtigung von örtlich zusammenhängenden Sensormessungen.

In a continuously changing world, for business processes it is crucial to be highly adaptive and to become more efficient and effective. As a consequence, companies crave for process automation to stay competitive in their markets. In this context, a promising approach is provided by Robotic Process Automation (RPA), which aims to automate business processes or parts of them using software robots that mimic human interactions. Developing such software robots is a challenging task as every software is unique and has individual challenges and characteristics. In practice, it is further common that software robots are implemented by knowledge workers, i.e., domain experts without profound IT background. As RPA projects often fail, we aim to understand RPA challenges to sustainably support the implementation of RPA projects accomplished by knowledge workers. For the support of knowledge-intensive processes, traditional workflow solutions are not recommended, but checklist-based approaches have established. Checklists constitute a simple concept to cover all tasks relevant in the given context and have proven to work in various domains, e.g., medicine or aviation. In this thesis, the results of developing a checklist that supports knowledge workers implementing RPA projects are presented. The research is based on design science methodology. In particular, interviews are conducted and questionnaires are distributed to understand the effects that can be achieved with RPA projects. Through an exploratory case study we identify the challenges faced during RPA projects leading to undesired effects. The current state-of-the-art is analyzed by a systematic mapping study. Using the resulting framework, the challenges not been tackled by literature so far are determined. The latter include user acceptance as well as human-robot interaction problems as robots take over tasks previously accomplished by humans. To tackle the challenges, we design and empirically validate an RPA user acceptance model. Furthermore, we investigate desired human-robot interactions empirically. For both research projects, we include RPA users in the automotive industry as participants in the study. The findings are used to derive the checklist, which is then evaluated according to the design science framework, in four evaluation steps. To conclude, the artifact, i.e., the checklist, improves the implementation of RPA projects. Furthermore, the special requirements of knowledge workers are met and, therefore, the checklist represents a valuable contribution to practice and scientific literature., In einer sich ständig verändernden Welt ist es für Geschäftsprozesse entscheidend, in hohem Maße anpassungsfähig zu sein und effektiver und effizienter zu werden. Infolgedessen sehnen sich Unternehmen nach Prozessautomatisierung, um auf ihren Märkten wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben. Ein vielversprechender Ansatz ist in diesem Zusammenhang die robotergestützte Prozessautomatisierung (RPA), die darauf abzielt, Geschäftsprozesse oder Teile davon mithilfe von Softwarerobotern zu automatisieren, die menschliche Interaktionen nachahmen. Die Entwicklung von Softwarerobotern ist eine anspruchsvolle Aufgabe, da jede Software einzigartig ist und individuelle Herausforderungen und Eigenschaften aufweist. In der Praxis ist es außerdem üblich, dass Softwareroboter von Wissensarbeitern, d.h. von Fachexperten ohne tiefgreifenden IT-Hintergrund, implementiert werden. Da RPA-Projekte häufig scheitern, wollen wir die Herausforderungen von RPA verstehen, um die Implementierung von RPA-Projekten durch Wissensarbeiter nachhaltig zu unterstützen. Für die Unterstützung von wissensintensiven Prozessen werden traditionelle Workflow Lösungen nicht empfohlen, viel mehr etablierten sich checklist-basierte Ansätze. Checklisten stellen ein einfaches Konzept dar, um alle im gegebenen Kontext relevanten Aufgaben abzudecken und haben sich in verschiedenen Bereichen wie beispielsweise der Medizin oder der Luftfahrt bewährt. In dieser Arbeit werden die Ergebnisse der Entwicklung einer Checkliste vorgestellt, die Wissensarbeiter bei der Umsetzung von RPA-Projekten unterstützt. Die Forschung basiert auf der Methodik der Design Science. Insbesondere werden Interviews geführt und Fragebögen verteilt, um die Effekte zu verstehen, die mit RPA-Projekten erzielt werden können. Anhand einer explorative Fallstudie identifizieren wir die Herausforderungen, die bei RPA-Projekten auftreten und zu unerwünschten Effekten führen. Der aktuelle Stand der Technik wird durch eine systematische Mapping-Studie analysiert. Anhand des deraus resultierenden Frameworks werden die in der Literatur bisher nicht behandelten Herausforderungen ermittelt. Dazu gehören die Benutzerakzeptanz sowie Probleme bei der Mensch-Roboter-Interaktion, da Softwareroboter Aufgaben übernehmen, die zuvor von Menschen ausgeführt wurden. Um diese Herausforderungen anzugehen, entwerfen wir ein RPA-Benutzerakzeptanzmodell und validieren es empirisch. Außerdem untersuchen wir empirisch die gewünschten Mensch-Roboter-Interaktionen. Für beide Forschungsprojekte beziehen wir RPA-Anwender aus der Automobilindustrie als Studienteilnehmer mit ein. Aus den Ergebnissen wird die Checkliste abgeleitet, die dann in vier Evaluationsschritten nach dem Design Science Framework evaluiert wird. Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass das Artefakt, d.h., die Checkliste, die Umsetzung von RPA-Projekten verbessert. Darüber hinaus werden die speziellen Anforderungen von Wissensarbeitern erfüllt, so dass die Checkliste einen wertvollen Beitrag für die Praxis und die wissenschaftliche Literatur darstellt.

Semiconductor device manufacturing has seen a constant decrease in transistors gate dimensions over the course of the last six decades, which also led to an increased influence of slight variations like random dopant variations and varying oxide thickness from manufacturing the physical instances. In the design of microelectronic chips, device mismatch usually degrades the performance of a system and thus is minimized as far as possible by design techniques or auxiliary systems within a chip. Physical Unclonable Functions are a promising alternative to storing secure encryption keys in non-volatile memory and utilize device mismatch as a source of unpredictable but static information contained in the physics of an integrated circuit itself. Physical Unclonable Functions have raised interest especially in the field of low-power IoT devices due to their small size, low costs, low power requirements and intrinsic resilience against physical tampering. In this thesis, techniques to enhance delay based Physical Unclonable Functions in the analog and the digital domain are investigated and analyzed. Arbiter PUFs are improved by a two-fold approach: First, custom sizing of transistors is investigated with respect to scaling effects on the ratio between mismatch and electrical noise in order to increase the reproducibility of measurement readouts. Second, a redesign of the measurement circuitry is investigated where the arbitration circuitry is extended to also function as a deadzone detector. This approach is complemented by feedback repetitive measurements, similar to oscillators, in order to avoid readouts with a minor phase difference, which would be strongly affected by electrical noise. Ring oscillators on FPGAs are investigated regarding their reproducibility and their individual bias based on their location on the chip. Counter failures occurring in high frequency oscillations are strongly reduced by a combination of an improved counter design, reference normalization and an additional feedback path of the ring oscillator for glitch avoidance. Analysis of the areal mismatch distribution is carried out to identify systematic and thus predictable bias.

Todays industry depends heavily on the collaboration of multiple businesses that have to exchange a lot of information. In combination with the recent trend of technology roadmapping and model-driven development, this leads to the exchange of very large models. However, the information exchangeable is governed by competition laws, and the businesses own interest of not revealing their intellectual property. Manually ensuring shared models do not contain any "content worth protection" for every exchange is a tedious and error-prone process. Therefore, this bachelor thesis suggests an automated one-way transformation approach to remove content worth protecting from a given model. With it, we propose two core artifacts: i) An obfuscation program with a formal catalog of applicable one-way model transformations ii) a proof of concept implementation of this obfuscation program in the context of the modeling tool Iris. We collect a total of sixteen transformation categories and analyze them according to a set of predefined properties and constraints. The proof of concept implementation underlines their effectiveness and reveals areas in which there exists a need for further research.

For autonomous driving vehicles, highly accurate representations of the environment are essential for both trajectory planning and self-localization. Different possibilities allow to generate detailed maps of the environment based on chirp-sequence radar sensors for advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs). A novel design methodology is presented to mitigate scan blindness in cavity antenna arrays without the need for any changes on the radiating structure itself. For a first proof-of-concept demonstration, a fully PCB-compliant dual-polarized cavity element is loaded by vertical stubs to manipulate the dispersion characteristics in the aperture plane. In contrast with its conventional cavity antenna counterpart, the proposed stub-loaded unit cell element shows through scattering and eigenmode analysis that the vertical stubs may effectively enhance the antenna’s wide-angle scan performance by preventing the onset of surface and leaky wave resonances. Owing to this additional design freedom, an element gain improvement of at least 1 dB is achieved, due to a truly TE and TM mode-free characteristic along the lateral directions. A dual-polarized 11 × 11 array prototype was implemented. The measurement results are in very good agreement with those obtained by full-wave simulations. The improvement of the angular resolution of radar sensors is one of the crucial goals of current radar research. A promising approach to achieve this goal is inspired by the ears of a fly called Ormia ochracea. The working principle was adapted for antennas, and the so-called biomimetic antenna arrays (BMAAs) aroused the interest of several research groups. In this work, BMAAs are incorporated into multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) arrays, a very common approach of improving the angular resolution, to gain more degrees of freedom in array design. The MIMO BMAAs are modeled utilizing the effective biomimetic antenna distance, a fundamentally new measure introduced in this article to translate the special biomimetic phase progression into a spatial quantity. We present straightforward antenna configurations but also describe how a genetic algorithm can be utilized to optimize both antenna positions and BMAA parameters. The proposed arrays show various beneficial effects such as a wider angular range for unambiguous angle estimation or a narrower beamwidth. The impact of MIMO BMAAs on the angular resolution is thoroughly analyzed both theoretically and by radar measurements in the range of 77 GHz. Predicting future paths of vehicles or pedestrians is an essential task for automated vehicles to allow for planning the own trajectory. Using predicted paths, a planning algorithm can, e.g., react to anticipated manoeuvres of other traffic participants. For calculating risks of planned manoeuvres, it is essential that the predicted paths are generated with information about their uncertainty. Since today's state of the art trajectory prediction algorithms are based on deep neural networks (DNNs), the estimation of uncertainty is left to the neural networks as well, which usually provide no means of assessing how the uncertainty estimation works. In this paper, we present a combination of DNNs with Gaussian processes via Deep Kernel Learning (DKL), which combines the ability of DNNs to perform the prediction task with the advantage of Gaussian processes of having more interpretable probabilistic outputs. We propose and evaluate two different variants for the task of multimodal trajectory prediction using Stochastic Variational Gaussian Processes (SVGPs) and the recently proposed regression method Deep Sigma Point Processes (DSPPs), respectively. Die fortschreitende Entwicklung und Skalierung von Halbleitertechnologien hat die Implementierung von hochperformanten Radaren auf einem einzelnen Chip ermöglicht. Dies hat zu einem enormen Anstieg der Anwendung verschiedenster Radarsysteme im Alltag geführt. Silizium-basierte Technologien sind hierfür hervorragend geeignet, denn sie erlauben eine kostengünstige Realisierung solch komplexer integrierter Systeme, die hochfrequente Front-Ends sowie digitale Signalverarbeitung monolithisch vereinen. In dieser Arbeit wird der Entwurf und die Implementierung von skalierbaren Radar-Transceiver (TRX) Front-Ends in Silizium-Germanium BiCMOS Technologie präsentiert. Die kritischen Komponenten, wie Frequenzvervielfacher und Leistungsverstärker werden untersucht und Techniken, um die Leistung der Schaltkreise zu verbessern, werden vorgeschlagen. Zwei effiziente D-band Frequenzvervierfacher werden entworfen und implementiert. Dabei werden die Entwurfstechniken zur Erhöhung des Konversionsgewinns erläutert. Zwei hochperformante Ausgangsstufen mit Leistungskombinierung für das E-band und G-band werden entworfen, gefertigt und charakterisiert. Darüber hinaus wird das Problem der Signalkopplung vom Sender zum Empfänger (TX-to-RX Leakage) analysiert und eine Kompensationstechnik wird vorgeschlagen. Schließlich werden die vollständigen monostatischen und bistatischen integrierten Radar TRX für E-Band und G-Band dargestellt und mittels dedizierter FMCW Platinen evaluiert. Die Skalierbarkeit des Systems wird mit Hilfe einer 2-kanaligen E-band Radarplattform demonstriert, die den Ort in zwei Dimensionen scannen kann und eine exzellente Präzision erreicht. Die Entfernungsauflösung des Radars wird durch den Einsatz der bistatischen G-Band TRX Version mit integrierten Antennen deutlich verbessert. Die Funktionalität des TX-to-RX Leckkompensationsnetzwerkes im monostatischen TRX wird sowohl im E- als auch G-Band geprüft. Dieses Netzwerk unterdrückt effektiv das TX-to-RX Übersprechen und verbessert die Erkennung von nahen, schwach reflektierenden Objekten., Rapid development and scaling of semiconductor technologies enabled implementation of high-performance radars on a single chip which led to an enormous increase in adoption of various radar systems in everyday life. Silicon-based technologies are well suited since they offer a cost-effective realization of integrated systems comprising a high-frequency front-ends and a digital part used for signal processing. This work presents the design and implementation of scalable millimeter-wave radar transceiver (TRX) front-ends in silicon-germanium BiCMOS technology. Critical components, such as frequency multipliers and power amplifiers are analyzed and techniques are proposed to improve the performance of the circuits. Two efficient D-band frequency quadruplers are designed and implemented. Circuit techniques to enhance the conversion gain are explained. Two high-performance output stages using power combining techniques targeting E-band and G-band, respectively, are designed, fabricated and characterized. Furthermore, a transmitter-to-receiver (TX-to-RX) leakage problem in monostatic radar TRX is addressed and a compensation technique is proposed. Finally, complete monostatic and bistatic integrated radar TRXs for E-band and G-band are presented and evaluated using dedicated FMCW radar boards. Scalability of the system is demonstrated using a 2-channel E-band radar capable of two-dimensional area scanning achieving an excellent ranging precision. The range resolution is significantly enhanced by employing a G-band bistatic TRX version with on-chip antennas. Functionality of a TX-to-RX leakage compensation network is validated in both E-band and G-band monostatic TRXs effectively suppressing the crosstalk and improving detectability of near, weakly reflecting objects.

The growing demand for fossil fuels is causing a series of environmental issues, most notably global warming. Finding the next general energy carrier which can store intermittent energy provided by wind or the sun is a key challenge for mankind. One possible solution for overcoming these obstacles is electrocatalytic water splitting, which generates hydrogen as a promising “green” fuel. This thesis explores electrochemical water splitting, and deals with challenges relating to the design and fabrication of electrodes, the electrochemical activity of catalysts, and the connection between catalysts and conductive supports. As one solution, this thesis will discuss the role of 3D printing in water splitting including the fundamentals of 3D printing electrodes, design of substrates, coating of conductive layers, characterization of active materials and electrochemical performance. To enable understanding of the fundamental mechanisms and development of facile metal plating processes and to optimize system performance, the following text will outline vital background and classic work in preparation of electrodes. Additionally, this thesis summarizes the basic concepts for electrolysis and widely accepted theory for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Particularly, as prospective catalysts for OER and HER, the various pathways and classic studies of NiFe- and Ni-based catalysts are discussed. According to this basic information, the primary objective of the thesis was to fabricate 3D-printed NiFe and Ni electrodes for water splitting. The thesis therefore focuses on three general aspects, i.e., the preparation of unsupported catalysts, the development of 3D metal foam electrodes and the design and fabrication of 3D printed electrodes. The methods used range from thermal precursor conversion (polyoxomolybdates, transition-metal salts and metal hydroxides), electrodeposition of transition bimetallic species (Co-Fe sulfate-phosphate oxide-hydroxide and Ni-Fe hydroxide) to wet chemical deposition (electroless plating, chemical etching and oxidation). Temperature, reactants, and reaction time were all optimized based on electrochemical performance analyses. To this end, linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA), chronopotentiometry (CP), electrochemical active surface area (ESCA), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and other methods are used to assess the activity of catalysts and electrodes. Spectroscopic technologies (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)), electron microscopy (scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM)), and X-ray methods (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS)) were used to investigate the composites and the underlying catalytic mechanism. As a result, the catalysts reported have low overpotential, low Tafel slope, and high long-term stability. These projects open up new possibilities for preparation and scale-up of high-activity transition metal-based electrodes or catalysts.

In dieser Dissertation werden lernende Verfahren zur Gesten- und Kochklassifikation mittels Radarsensorik vorgestellt. Die Verfahren umfassen zum einen die Klassifikation der Radardaten mithilfe verschiedener tiefer neuronaler Netzwerke. Zum anderen wird ein kognitives Radar vorgestellt, bei dem das Radar adaptiv auf die Szene reagieren und die Messparameter entsprechend anpassen kann. Die Verfahren werden anhand der Anwendung Kochsensor evaluiert. Der Kochsensor ist ein 120GHz FMCW-Radar, das oberhalb eines Kochfelds angebracht ist und die aktive Kochposition, verschiedene Steuergesten und das Kochen selbst klassifiziert. Auf diese Weise wird ein Überkochschutz realisiert. Die in dieser Arbeit erforschten Verfahren zeigen verschiedene Klassifikationsmöglichkeiten anhand von Range-Doppler-Matrix-Daten auf. Zunächst erfolgt die Klassifikation mit einer einzelnen Messung (Einzelbild-Klassifikation). Dieses Verfahren zeigt speziell bei dynamischen Klassen, wie den Gesten oder dem Kochen, Schwächen. Deutlich bessere Ergebnisse zeigt die Sequenz-Klassifikation, bei der eine Sequenz von Messungen mithilfe netzwerkinterner Speicher ausgewertet wird. Ein ähnlich gutes Ergebnis wird erreicht, wenn bei der Einzelbild-Klassifikation zusätzliche Sensormodalitäten zum Trainieren des Klassifikationsnetzwerks herangezogen werden. Bei diesem sogenannten Cross Learning werden die zusätzlichen Sensoren, wie eine Wärmebildkamera, allerdings nur zum Trainieren und nicht zur Klassifikation in der Anwendung benötigt. Ein weiteres lernendes Verfahren ist das Reinforcement Learning, das dem Radar ein kognitives Verhalten erlaubt. Das Radar kann adaptiv auf die Szene reagieren und die adaptiven Messparameter optimal wählen.

Autonomous Driving (AD) systems use digital maps as a virtual sensor to anticipate the road ahead and make decisions. The evolution of digital maps has posed a range of challenges to the current mapping ecosystem. First, different standards and formats make maps lack interoperability. Second, the regular update and increasing size of the maps data make it largely impossible to store and process a complete detailed map in a navigation system of a car. Finally, errors introduced in any step of map creation may cause unavailability of AD functions. Currently, there are separate software components trying to solve each challenge, however, the integration and maintenance of these components is a difficult task due to the challenges of the maps' evolution. This thesis investigates an ontology-based approach with the goal of shifting from map data-oriented functional design to knowledge-centered ontology design. Thus, we contribute a knowledge-spatial architecture with an embedded quality assurance mechanism to achieve efficient dynamic map provision with quality assurance, providing flexible query answering. Our first contribution is two levels of ontological abstraction to solve the map data integration problem. The developed low-level ontologies represent the specific map data formats. A single high-level ontology is designed with the prerequisites and requirements of a self-driving vehicle in mind resulting in a light(er) weight generic map ontology. Mapping rules are designed to unify low-level map ontologies to the generic map ontology. As our second contribution, we develop and implement an efficient dynamic map update strategy to provide continuous road knowledge ahead. To achieve efficient map updates, we design a spatial-sliding window on top of the light(er) weight generic map ontology and process map data streams via reasoning based on a pre-fetching mechanism. To ensure map data quality and preventing AD mode degradation, we conduct our third contribution which is the design of a workflow to detect and fix the map data violation including semantic enrichment, violation detection, and violation handling. To facility violation detection, we develop a Map Quality Violation Ontology and a set of constraint rules. Violation handling is realized based on a real-world map data error. To evaluate the proposed methods, we rely on empirical evaluations as well as on the development of concrete use cases. The attained results provide evidence that an ontology-based approach enables effective map integration and processing with ensured data quality. This allows engineers to focus more on developing AD functions on the knowledge level rather than on data processing and integration. The proposed two-level ontology development methodology shades the light for ontology practitioners to build ontologies in situations where the data is dynamic, and the computation resources are limited.

Anticipation is a basic human skill allowing people to travel safely and with foresight on the road. This cognitive ability can be improved through experience, training, and specific support systems. For these enhancements to succeed, there is a need to understand the underlying information processing procedures and identify factors that promote or inhibit anticipation. The process of anticipation is based on developing an adequate mental representation of the situation by integrating perceived environmental information and knowledge from long-term memory. The key to this is perceiving and processing specific, situational characteristics from the environment that activate existing knowledge structures. This cumulative thesis focuses on investigating these cognitive processes relating to anticipatory driving, particularly examining selected environmental characteristics and retrieval cues in the presence of specific individual and situational influencing factors. In the course of this thesis, I proposed and refined a retrieval cue characterization determined by coherence, perceived causality, spatial proximity, and contingency. The characterization allows for the discrimination of situational cues based on underlying cognitive processes. Furthermore, it provides the basis for derivating and investigating multiple hypotheses published in four peer-reviewed scientific articles. To investigate the process of anticipation, I selected objective measures of response and psychophysiology, as well as subjective ratings. A two-stage response scheme was developed, tested and extended. The metacognitive process of subjective confidence regarding one’s anticipation was addressed by recording (1) initial anticipation under high uncertainty and (2) the certain anticipation of an event by applying a tactile response. The first two studies (I & II) investigated the influence of cognitive load and experience on the processing of situational characteristics and related retrieval cues in lane change anticipation. In study III, the focus was on uncertainty reduction through anticipation, supported by reduced psychophysiological activity when people were confident in their anticipation. Study IV examined the effect of cue compatibility, linking anticipation and behavioral intention. The findings from all studies were incorporated into a revised version of the retrieval cue characterization. Furthermore, recommendations were made for more in-depth investigations of the anticipation process, especially considering confidence and uncertainty. Based upon this, future research ideas were proposed and practical applications in training or human-machine interfaces addressed that assist humans in anticipatory driving., Antizipation ist eine grundlegende menschliche Fähigkeit, die sichere und vorausschauende Fortbewegung im Straßenverkehr ermöglicht. Diese kognitive Fähigkeit kann durch Erfahrung, Training und spezifische Unterstützungssysteme verbessert werden. Zur erfolgreichen Implementierung solcher Maßnahmen, müssen die zugrundeliegenden Informationsverarbeitungsprozesse verstanden und Faktoren ermittelt werden, die den Prozess der Antizipation fördern oder hemmen. Dieser Prozess basiert auf der Entwicklung einer adäquaten mentalen Repräsentation der Situation durch die Integration von wahrgenommenen Informationen aus der Umgebung und Wissen aus dem Langzeitgedächtnis. Entscheidend ist die Wahrnehmung und Verarbeitung spezifischer, charakteristischer Reize aus der Umwelt, die vorhandene Wissensstrukturen aktivieren. Die vorliegende kumulative Dissertation befasst sich mit der Untersuchung dieser kognitiven Prozesse im Zusammenhang mit dem vorausschauenden Fahren. Insbesondere wird die Untersuchung spezifischer Umgebungsinformationen und Abrufreize in Abhängigkeit von ausgewählten individuellen und situativer Einflussfaktoren betrachtet. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Charakterisierung von Abrufreizen vorgenommen und erweitert, die durch Kohärenz, wahrgenommene Kausalität, räumliche Nahe und Kontingenz bestimmt wird. Diese Charakterisierung ermöglicht die Unterscheidung von situativen Reizen auf der Basis der zugrunde liegenden kognitiven Prozesse. Darüber hinaus bildet sie die Grundlage für die Ableitung und Untersuchung mehrerer Hypothesen, die in vier wissenschaftlichen Forschungsartikeln mit Peer-Review Verfahren veröffentlicht wurden. Zur Untersuchung des Antizipationsprozesses, wurden objektive Reaktions- und psychophysiologische Maße, sowie subjektive Bewertungen ausgewählt. Ein zweistufiges Reaktionsschema wurde entwickelt, getestet und erweitert. Der metakognitive Prozess der subjektiven Sicherheit hinsichtlich der eigenen Antizipation wurde einbezogen, indem (1) die anfängliche Antizipation unter hoher Unsicherheit und (2) die sichere Antizipation eines Ereignisses durch Tastendruck aufgezeichnet wurden. Die ersten beiden Studien (I & II) untersuchten den Einfluss von kognitiver Belastung und Erfahrung auf die Verarbeitung von situativen Merkmalen und zugehörigen Abrufreizen hinsichtlich der Antizipation eines Fahrspurwechsels. In Studie III lag der Schwerpunkt auf der Verringerung der Unsicherheit durch Antizipation. Dabei ging eine hohe Sicherheit der Antizipation einher mit einer verringerten psychophysiologischen Aktivität. Studie IV untersuchte die Auswirkung der Kompatibilität von Abrufreizen und stellte eine Verbindung zwischen Antizipation und Verhaltensabsichten her. Die Erkenntnisse aus allen Studien wurden in eine überarbeitete Version der Charakterisierung von Abrufreizen eingearbeitet. Darüber hinaus wurden Empfehlungen für vertiefende Untersuchungen des Antizipationsprozesses ausgesprochen, insbesondere unter Berücksichtigung von Vertrauen und Unsicherheit. Darauf aufbauend wurden zukünftige Forschungsideen vorgeschlagen und praktische Anwendungen für Fahrertrainings oder Mensch-Maschine Schnittstellen aufgezeigt, die Menschen beim vorausschauenden Fahren unterstutzen.

Machine learning models for classification and segmentation typically use loss functions based on binary or categorical cross entropy (BCE/CCE). Recent work has pointed out that cross entropy is not always optimal for maximizing accuracy of classification models. Instead, power error loss has been suggested as a generalization of BCE employing a power error exponent parameter q that can be adapted to output error distributions. In this paper we apply the power error loss to classification and segmentation using Convolutional Neural Network and a variant of DeepLabV3+. In line with previous findings, classification and segmentation performance can be improved significantly by using an appropriate fixed q. Due to the ever-increasing improvement in computer power and the development of more efficient codes, atomistic first-principles calculations have become an indispensable tool in materials and interface chemistry. They are no longer limited to explanatory purposes but have gained predictive power, so that computational modeling and experiment can collaborate on the same footing. Still, quantum chemical first-principles methods are computationally expensive, and there are certain limitations as far as their scaling behavior in high-performance computing is concerned. Hence computational methods based on machine learning have become increasingly popular as an alternative approach to study materials and interfaces. Due to it's cost effectiveness and flexibility machining is widely regarded as the backbone of manufacturing. To ensure the aforementioned features of this method, the tooling and process must be configured to suit the material. In literature many publications have analyzed and simulated a two-dimensional (orthogonal) cutting process to this end. This simplification has been proven to be effective and enables predictions for a continuous cut. For the interrupted cut at the heart of our research this approach is not valid and three-dimensional cutting simulations are necessary. Due to the computational complexity involved few publications exist in this area. In this study an Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) scheme is employed using the commercial solver LS-DYNA. To validate the results and determine our model parameters, an inverse method is proposed which uses the digitized surface of manufactured samples. Modern vehicles are equipped with many semi-automated and even highly automated driving functions, which enormously increase safety and comfort while traveling. A basic prerequisite for these features is an accurate and reliable perception of the vehicle’s environment, which is modeled by suitable algorithms on the basis of various sensor measurements. One appropriate sensor for this purpose is a radar sensor, which is able to directly measure the position, the orientation as well as the radial velocity of objects in the vehicle’s surroundings. Contemporary automotive radar sensors provide high-resolution data, such that multiple radar reflections are generated for a single object. Subsequently, the object detection task is to recognize all existing objects in the measured radar target list which means to determine their localization and class. This thesis proposes a novel technique for object detection in high-resolution radar data, which is then further used to realize environment perception at an object level. In summary, this covers the complete processing pipeline from a radar target list to the object recognition and multi-object tracking. The radar object detection system designed in this thesis is based on a Deep Learning technique, where the entire processing chain basically consisting of three main components. The first module divides the radar target list into several small regions and determines whether there is an object located in it, and if given, then its associated class. The second component segments all radar targets belonging to the actual object of interest. Finally, the third module determines the parameters for a 2D bounding box modeling the respective object and outputs all predicted hypotheses after the object extraction. The training of all neural networks exclusively utilizes real radar data from typical traffic situations in rural and urban areas. The evaluation validates the radar object detector based on three different datasets, and scores the intermediate results of each module as well as the final object detection result. Two of the radar datasets are publicly available ensuring that all results are reproducible and verifiable. The third dataset is self-generated and includes high-resolution radar data from real sensors. The evaluation reveals that the radar object detector provides convincing results on all datasets, where the best performance is obtained with the self-generated dataset. Further, a successful implementation and a parallel operation of three radar object detection systems on three radar sensors installed in a real system for autonomous driving demonstrates that this technology is real-time capable and appropriate for real-world applications in the automotive field. In the case of multiple sensors with an overlapping field of view, the respective radar object detectors provide different hypotheses for the same object, which may be contradictory. In order to obtain a consistent environment model, it is necessary to fuse and track all generated object detections over time. A multi-object tracking algorithm allows to combine detections from independent sources into one overall result. A tracking algorithm consists of two main stages: the prediction of existing objects according to a motion model and the correction of all object states based on measurements. This thesis presents a measurement model to process all hypotheses provided by the developed radar object detection system using an established multi-object tracking algorithm. The tracker processes all radar object detections and generates a robust environment model. Therefore, the algorithm optimizes the perception of objects such that the resulting tracks correspond accurately to reality. The proposed radar object detector and the subsequent multi-object tracking perform precisely and reliably in real-world applications, which makes this advanced technique an essential component for the environment perception in a real system for automated driving., Moderne Fahrzeuge verfügen über viele teil- und sogar hochautomatisierte Fahrfunktionen, welche die Sicherheit und den Komfort während der Fahrt enorm erhöhen. Als Grundvoraussetzung erfordern solche Systeme eine genaue und zuverlässige Wahrnehmung der Umgebung um das Fahrzeug, welche durch dafür vorgesehene Algorithmen auf Basis von verschiedenen Sensormessungen modelliert wird. Ein für diesen Zweck geeigneter Sensor stellt das Radar dar, welches in der Lage ist Position, Orientierung und Radialgeschwindigkeit von Objekten in der Fahrzeugumgebung direkt zu messen. Heutige Automobilradarsensoren liefern bereits hochauflösende Daten, sodass für ein Objekt mehrere Radarreflektionen erzeugt werden. Anschließend ist es die Aufgabe der Objektdetektion in der gemessenen Radartargetliste alle vorhandenen Objekte zu erkennen, das heißt deren Lokalisierung sowie deren zugehörigen Klasse zu bestimmen. Diese Arbeit stellt eine neuartige Technik für die Objektdetektion in hochauflösenden Radardaten vor, welche anschließend weiterverarbeitet wird um eine Wahrnehmung der Umgebung auf Objektebene zu realisieren. Zusammenfassend handelt es sich um ein vollständiges System von der Radartargetliste über die Objekterkennung bis hin zur zeitlichen Verfolgung all dieser detektierten Objekten. Das in dieser Arbeit entworfene Radar-Objektdetektionssystem basiert auf der Methode des Deep Learning, wobei der Detektor aus drei Hauptkomponenten besteht. Das erste Modul teilt die Radartargetliste in mehrere kleine Regionen auf und bestimmt, ob sich darin ein Objekt befindet und gegeben des Falls auch dessen Klassen. Die zweite Komponente segmentiert alle Radarreflektionen, die zum Zielobjekt gehören. Das dritte Modul bestimmt schließlich die Parameter für die zugehörige 2D-Bounding-Box, welche das Objekt modelliert. Dieser Prozess wird für alle Teiltargetlisten durchgeführt und letztendlich fasst die Objektextraktion alle prädizierten Hypothesen zu einem gesamtheitlichen Detektionsergebnis zusammen. Das Training der neuronalen Netzwerke verwendet ausschließlich reale Radardaten, welche aus typischen Verkehrssituationen in ländlichen und städtischen Gebieten stammen. Die Auswertung evaluiert den Radar-Objektdetektor auf drei verschiedenen Datensätze und bewertet die Zwischenergebnisse der einzelnen Module sowie das eigentliche Detektionsergebnis. Zwei der Radardatensätze sind öffentlich zugänglich, sodass alle Ergebnisse reproduzierbar und nachvollziehbar sind. Der dritte Datensatz ist selbst erzeugt und enthält hochauflösende Radardaten von echten Radarsensoren. Die Evaluation zeigt, dass der Objektdetektor auf allen Datensätzen überzeugende Ergebnisse liefert, wobei die Detektionsresultate auf dem selbst erzeugten Datensatz am besten abschneiden. Außerdem beweist eine erfolgreiche Implementierung sowie ein paralleler Betrieb von drei Radar-Objektdetektionssystemen auf drei Sensoren, die in einem realen System für autonomes Fahren installiert sind, dass diese fortschrittliche Technologie echtzeitfähig ist und sich für den Einsatz im realen Straßenverkehr eignet. Beim Einsatz von mehreren Sensoren mit einem sich überlappenden Sichtbereich, liefern die zugehörigen Radar-Objektdetektoren für das gleiche Objekt verschiedene Hypothesen, die sich durchaus widersprechen können. Um ein konsistentes Umgebungsmodell zu erhalten, müssen alle erzeugen Objektdetekionen fusioniert und über die Zeit verfolgt werden. Ein Algorithmus für Multi-Objekt-Tracking ermöglicht es, Messungen aus unabhängigen Quellen zu einem ganzheitlichen Ergebnis zu kombinieren. Solch ein Trackingalgorithmus besteht aus zwei wesentlichen Schritten, der Prädiktion von bestehenden Objekten gemäß einem Bewegungsmodell und der darauffolgenden Korrektur von aktuellen Objektzuständen mit Messungen. Diese Arbeit stellt ein geeignetes Messmodell vor, um alle Hypothesen, die das entwickelte Radar-Objektdetektionssystem liefert, mit dem eingesetzten Multi-Objekt-Trackingalgorithmus zu verarbeiten. Der Multi-Objekt-Tracker erzeugt unter Nutzung der gefundenen Radar-Objektdetektionen ein robustes Umgebungsmodell. Dabei optimiert der Algorithmus die Wahrnehmung von Objekten, sodass die resultierenden getrackten Objekte genau denen in der Realität entsprechen. Der in dieser Arbeit vorgeschlagene Radar-Objektdetektor und das anschließende Multi-Objekt-Tracking funktioniert im realen Betrieb sowohl schnell und präzise, als auch zuverlässig, sodass diese Technik ein unerlässlicher Bestandteil für die Umgebungswahrnehmung in einer realen Anwendung für das automatisierte Fahren darstellt.

Die Massive-MIMO-Technologie verkörpert eine der Schlüsselkomponenten zur Steigerung der Übetragungskapazität von zukünftigen Kommunikationssystemen. Durch die Ausstattung der Basisstationen mit einer Vielzahl an Antennen können viele Endgeräte gleichzeitig über dasselbe Frequenzband versorgt werden. Diese Systeme offenbaren jedoch große Herausforderungen, die nicht nur in der Gewinnung der essenziell notwendigen Kanalzustandsinformation, sondern auch im Realisierungsaufwand aufgrund der hohen Hardware-Komplexität liegen. Abhilfe können inkohärente Systeme schaffen. Hierbei muss der aktuelle Kanalzustand für die dafür entwickelten Detektionsverfahren im Uplink nicht bekannt sein. Bisherige Arbeiten mit diesem vielversprechenden Ansatz beschränken sich auf theoretische Übertragungskanäle sowie idealisierte Hardware. Um die Leistungsfähigkeit der inkohärenten Verfahren vollumfänglich beurteilen zu können, müssen allerdings möglichst realitätsgetreue Ausbreitungskanäle, aber auch die Hardware-Nichtidealitäten berücksichtigt werden. In dieser Arbeit wird ein Kanalmodell erarbeitet, das den physikalischen Ausbreitungskanal in realistischen Szenarien abbildet und als Bewertungsgrundlage für die inkohärenten Verfahren herangezogen wird. Über eine ganzheitliche und realitätsnahe Modellierung der Antennen- sowie der Hardware-Einflüsse werden die Anforderungen an die Antennenauslegung und an das Frontend-Design an der Basisstation im Detail aufgezeigt. Speziell für kompakte Abmessungen der Basisstation zeigt sich, dass die inkohärenten Verfahren nicht direkt angewendet werden können. Als Lösungsansatz werden hierfür neuartige Systemkonzepte und -ansätze entwickelt.

Background Pulsatile extracorporeal circulation (ECC) may improve perfusion of critical organs during cardiac surgery. This study analyzed the influence of the components of a minimal invasive ECC (MiECC) on the transfer of pulsatile energy into the pseudo-patient of a mock circulation. Methods An aortic model with human-like geometry and compliance was perfused by a diagonal pump. Surplus hemodynamic energy (SHE) was determined from flow and pressure data. Five adult-size oxygenator models and three sizes of cannulas were compared. Pulsatile pump settings were optimized, and parallel dual-pump configurations were evaluated. Results Oxygenator models showed up to twofold differences in pressure gradients and influenced SHE at flow rates up to 2.0 L min−1. Adjustments of frequency, systole duration, and rotational speed gain significantly improved SHE compared with empirical settings, with SHE above 21% of mean arterial pressure at flow rates of 1.0 L min−1 to 1.5 L min−1 and SHE above 5% at 3.5 L min−1. Small diameter cannula (15 Fr) limited SHE compared with larger cannula (21 Fr and 23 Fr). Two diagonal pumps did not provide higher SHE than a single pump, but permitted additional control over pulse pressure and SHE by varying the total fraction of pulsatile flow and the fraction of flow bypassing the oxygenator. Conclusions Proper selection of components and optimizations of pump settings significantly improved pulse pressure and SHE of pulsatile MiECC. Surplus hemodynamic energy depended on flow rate with a maximum at 1.0 L min−1–1.5 L min−1. Pulsatile MiECC may specifically assist organ perfusion during phases of low flow., publishedVersion

Principal component analysis (PCA) and kernel PCA allow the decorrelation of data with respect to a basis that is found via variance maximization. However, these techniques are based on pointwise correlations. Especially in the context of time series analysis this is not optimal. We present a novel generalization of PCA that allows to imprint any desired correlation pattern. Thus the proposed method can be used to incorporate previously known statistical dependencies between input variables into the model which is increasing the overall performance. This is achieved by generalizing the projection onto the direction of maximum variance—as known from PCA—to a projection onto a multi-dimensional subspace. We focus on the use of cyclic correlation patterns, which is especially of interest in the domain of time series analysis. Current trends in miniaturized diagnostics indicate an increasing demand for large quantities of mobile devices for health monitoring and point-of-care diagnostics. This comes along with a need for rapid but preferably also green microfabrication. Dry film photoresists (DFPs) promise low-cost and greener microfabrication and can partly or fully replace conventional silicon-technologies being associated with high-energy demands and the intense use of toxic and climate-active chemicals. Due to their mechanical stability and superior film thickness homogeneity, DFPs outperform conventional spin-on photoresists, such as SU-8, especially when three-dimensional architectures are required for micro-analytical devices (e.g. microfluidics). In this study, we utilize the commercial epoxy-based DFP ADEX to demonstrate various application scenarios ranging from the direct modification of microcantilever beams via the assembly of microfluidic channels to lamination-free patterning of DFPs, which employs the DFP directly as a substrate material. Finally, kinked, bottom-up grown silicon nanowires were integrated in this manner as prospective ion-sensitive field-effect transistors in a bio-probe architecture directly on ADEX substrates.
