Abstract: Computer vision applications have been increasingly gaining space in the field of remote sensing and geosciences for automated terrain classification and semantic labelling purposes. The continuous and rapid development of monitoring techniques and enhancements in the spatial resolution of sensors have increased the demand for new remote sensing data analysis approaches. For semantic labelling of 2D (or 2.5D) image terrain representations for rock slopes, it has been shown that Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) results in high efficiency and accurate identification of landslide hazards. However, the application of such object-based approaches in 3D point cloud analysis is still under development for geospatial data analysis. In the field of engineering geology, which deals with complex rural landscapes, frequently the analysis needs to be conducted based solely on 3D geometrical information accounting for multiple scales simultaneously. In this study, the primary segmentation step of the object-based model is applied to a TLS-derived point cloud collected at a landslide-active rock slope. The 3D point cloud segmentation methodology proposed here builds on the principles of the Fractal Net Evolution Approach (FNEA). The objective is to provide a geometry-based point cloud segmentation framework that preserves the 3D character of the data throughout the process and favours the multi-scale analysis. The segmentation is performed on the basis of supervoxels based on purely geometrical local descriptors derived directly from the TLS point clouds and comprises the basis for the subsequent steps towards the development of an efficient Object-Based Point cloud Analysis (OBPA) framework in rock slope stability assessment by adding semantic meaning to the data through a homogenization process.

Abstract: This paper evaluates one potential impact of California’s Proposition 14, which created a top-two primary system for all non-Presidential election races within the state. Our analysis is twofold, with the concern of each analysis placed on voter roll off when the result of the top-two primary placed a non-traditional pairing of candidates on the ballot.We focus on U.S. House races using data at the congressional district level to evaluate the impact of a non-traditional general election that omits one of the major parties from the ballot. Using major party registration of the political party omitted from the general election ballot, we find suggestive evidence that voter roll-off increases with these non-traditional contests. These elections do not effect voter turnout as a whole, but can increase voter roll-off by upwards of 7%.

Abstract: International audience; We present relative astrometric and photometric measurements of visual binaries made in 2011-2012, with PISCO2 installed at the 76-cm refractor of Côte d'Azur Observatory in Nice (France). Our observing list contains orbital couples as well as binaries whose motion is still uncertain. Three different techniques have been used for obtaining those measurements: Lucky imaging, speckle interferometry, and the direct vector autocorrelation method. From our observations of 3,136 multiple stars, we obtained 3,568 new measurements with angular separations in the range of 0″.1-10″ and an average accuracy of 0″.016. The mean error on the position angles is 1°.7. Most of the position angles were determined without the usual 180° ambiguity with the application of the direct vector autocorrelation technique and/or by inspection of the Lucky images or the long integration files. We managed to routinely monitor faint systems (mV ≈ 9-11) with large magnitude difference (up to ΔmV ≈ 5). We have thus been able to measure many systems containing red dwarf stars that had been poorly monitored since their discovery. We also measured the magnitude difference of the two components of 326 binaries with an estimated error of 0.2 mag. Except for a few objects that have been discussed, our measurements are in a good agreement with the ephemerides computed with published orbital elements, even for the binaries closer than the diffraction limit. Thanks to good seeing images and with the use of high-contrast numerical filters, we have also been able to obtain 196 measurements with an angular separation smaller than the diffraction limit of our instrumentation, and consistent with those obtained with larger telescopes. We also obtained new measurements of the 15th magnitude multiple system CON37, and discovered a faint new double star in its vicinity. Finally, we report 47 measurements of 28 new binaries found during our observations.

Abstract: beta Lyr A is a complex binary system with an extensive observational dataset: light curves (from FUV to FIR), interferometric squared visibility, closure phase, triple product measurements, spectral-energy distribution (SED), high-resolution spectroscopy, differential visibility amplitude, and also differential phase. In particular, we use spectra from Ondrejov 2m telescope from 2013 to 2015, to measure the emission in Halpha, HeI, SiII, NeI, or CII lines, and differential interferometry by CHARA/VEGA from the 2013 campaign to measure wavelength-dependent sizes across Halpha and HeI 6678. This allows us to constrain not only optically thick objects (primary, secondary, accretion disk), but also optically thin objects (disk atmosphere, jets, shell). We extended our modelling tool Pyshellspec (based on Shellspec; a 1D LTE radiative transfer code) to include all new observables, to compute differential visibilities/phases, to perform a Doppler tomography, and to determine a joint chi^2 metric. After an optimisation of 38 free parameters, we derive a robust model of the beta Lyr A system. According to the model, the emission is formed in an extended atmosphere of the disk, two perpendicular jets expanding at ~700 km s^-1, and a symmetric shell with the radius ~70 R_S. The spectroscopy indicates a low abundance of carbon, 10^-2 of the solar value. We also quantify systematic differences between datasets and discuss alternative models, with higher resolution, additional asymmetries, or He-rich abundance., Comment: 19 pages, 31 figures

Abstract: Les pathologies de la sphere odontognathique, accessibles aux therapies manuelles, ne se limitent pas aux seuls dysfonctionnements de l’appareil manducateur (DAM). Les contraintes generees par les traitements orthodontiques et les consequences temporomandibulaires d’un fleau cervical peuvent beneficier de ce type d’approche. De connaissance avant tout empirique, elles s’integrent dans ce protocole en tant que moyen de reinitialisation des capteurs. En effet, dans une approche mecanomorphe de l’homme, on peut considerer que lors d’un dysfonctionnement articulaire ou postural, les differents recepteurs, mecaniques cutanes, tendinomusculaires et articulaires emettent un signal d’erreur dont une des modalites d’expression est la contracture musculaire, un des facteurs de limitation de l’amplitude articulaire. L’abord de cette pathologie est imperativement multidisciplinaire, integrant chirurgien-dentiste et stomatologue, medecin et kinesitherapeute. Les therapies manuelles ne sont qu’un appoint au traitement occlusal et a la reeducation. Elles permettent de passer un cap et d’eviter des repercussions tardives d’une contusion directe ou indirecte des ATM.

Abstract: Phase-referenced interferometric astrometry offers the possibility to look for exoplanets around bright stars. Instruments like PRIMA (Phase-Referenced Imaging and Micro-arcsecond Astrometry) will measure the astrometric wobble of a candidate star due to an exoplanet relative to a close-by ‘calibrator’ star, located within the instrument's observing field (1 arcmin in the PRIMA case). Stars with already known exoplanets will constitute the first targets for this technique, as it will provide a way to further specify the characteristics of the known exoplanets, such as the inclinations. The main requirement is to have a calibrator in the vicinity of the star. We provide here a list of calibrators for all stars with known exoplanets obtained using data mining and Virtual Observatory techniques. This list is available online and revised regularly. The calibrators are found from catalogues available at Centre de Donnees astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS) using the SearchCal software developed at Jean-Marie Mariotti Center (JMMC). In our test case, the calibrators are found within 1 arcmin angular distance for approximately 50 per cent of the stars tested, and often closer. They are all faint objects from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) with K magnitudes between 13 and 15. A list of the most promising targets is also given.

Abstract: Mass exchange and mass loss in close binaries can significantly affect their evolution, but a complete self-consistent theory of these processes is still to be developed. Processes such as radiative shielding due to a hot-spot region, or a hydrodynamical interaction of different parts of the gas stream have been studied previously. In order to test the respective predictions, it is necessary to carry out detailed observations of binaries undergoing the largescale mass exchange, especially for those that are in the rapid transfer phase.βLyr A is an archetype of such a system, having a long and rich observational history. Our goal for this first study is to quantitatively estimate the geometry and physical properties of the optically thick components, namely the Roche-lobe filling mass-losing star, and the accretion disk surrounding the mass-gaining star ofβLyr A. A series of continuum visible and NIR spectro-interferometric observations by the NPOI, CHARA/MIRC and VEGA instruments covering the whole orbit ofβLyr A acquired during a two-week campaign in 2013 were complemented withUBVRphotometric observations acquired during a three-year monitoring of the system. We included NUV and FUV observations from OAO A-2, IUE, and Voyager satellites. All these observations were compared to a complex model of the system. It is based on the simple LTE radiative transfer codeSHELLSPEC, which was substantially extended to compute all interferometric observables and to perform both global and local optimization of system parameters. Several shapes of the accretion disk were successfully tested – slab, wedge, and a disk with an exponential vertical profile – and the following properties were consistently found: the radius of the outer rim is 30.0±1.0R⊙, the semithickness of the disk 6.5±1.0R⊙, and the binary orbital inclinationi=93.5±1.0deg. The temperature profile is a power-law or a steady-disk in case of the wedge geometry. The properties of the accretion disk indicate that it cannot be in a vertical hydrostatic equilibrium, which is in accord with the ongoing mass transfer. The hot spot was also detected in the continuum but is interpreted as a hotter part of the accretion disk illuminated by the donor. As a by-product, accurate kinematic and radiative properties ofβLyr B were determined.

Abstract: Summary Background Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) affects the skin, retina and cardiovascular system. Most cases are related to mutations in the ABCC6 gene. The diagnosis is most often made late in the second or third decade of life. Objectives To describe the manifestations of PXE before the age of 15 years. Methods Children under age 15 years with definite PXE were evaluated at a PXE referral centre, as were adult patients in whom serious manifestations of PXE had occurred before the age of 15 years. Results Our series included 96 patients; 15 (16%) had paediatric onset of the disease. Nine children were diagnosed at a mean age of 10 years, a mean of 2·5 years after the presenting symptoms. Cutaneous lesions were the presenting symptoms in eight. None had cardiovascular or ophthalmological symptoms. Six adult patients had had severe cutaneous and/or cardiovascular manifestations before the age of 15 years. Both adult patients with early extensive skin lesions had the PXE-like condition related to the GGCX gene. No ocular symptoms were recorded during childhood. Conclusions Cutaneous manifestations of PXE are the same in children as in young adults. Absence of complications is common in childhood, but severe complications are unpredictable. The frequency of complications was retrospectively estimated to be 7% in the adults of our series, although this figure was probably an overestimate because of the recruitment bias in a referral centre. It is, however, important to consider PXE in the paediatric setting, as early diagnosis may be important to provide accurate information and discuss lifestyle adjustments in order to improve the prognosis of the disease.

Abstract: Aims. The aim of this paper is to determine the properties of the dusty environment of the hydrogen-deficient binary system υ Sgr, whose binary properties and other characteristics are poorly known. Methods. We obtained the first mid-IR interferometric observations of υ Sgr using the instrument MIDI of the VLTI used with different pairs of 1.8 m and 8 m telescopes. The calibrated visibilities, the N band spectrum, and the SED were compared with disk models computed with the MC3D code to determine the geometry and chemical composition of the envelope. Results. υ Sgr is unresolved with an 8 m telescope at 8.7 μ m. We propose a disk model that agrees with the measured visibilities and the SED, consisting of a geometrically thin disk with an inner radius $R_{\rm in} = 6.0^{+0.5}_{-1.5}$ AU and a scale height $h_{100} = 3.5^{+2.0}_{-1.5}$ AU. The chemical composition of the dust is approximately 60% of carbon dust and 40% of silicate dust, as a consequence of several episodes of mass transfers, whose chemistry was imprinted in the dust composition. We also constrain the inclination of the disk $i = {50^\circ}^{+10^\circ}_{-20^\circ}$ and its orientation position angle PA = ${80^\circ}^{+10^\circ}_{-5^\circ}$. Conclusions. The mid-infrared interferometric observations of the binary star υ Sgr allowed us to constrain the geometry of the circumbinary dusty envelope. By defining the inclination and PA of the system with better accuracy than before, these observations restrict the parameter space for the orbital parameters and thus the nature of the stars orbiting in this system.

Abstract: Niemann–Pick type C (NPC) disease is a recessive disorder that results in unesterified cholesterol accumulating in the lysosomal and late endosomal system. It is caused by mutations in NPC1 or NPC2 genes and leads to systemic and neurodegenerative symptoms. Few cases of prenatal presentation of NPC have been reported and only two cases in the absence of previous family history, indicating the diagnosis is particularly difficult in such a situation. We report a prenatal diagnosis of NPC in a couple without family history. An ultrasound screening at 22 weeks of gestation (WG) detected fetal ascites and hepatomegaly, which were still present at 25, 27, and 29 WG, and a splenomegaly progressively appeared. No placentomegaly or other signs of hydrops fetalis were observed. The diagnostic of NPC was prenatally confirmed by a filipin test and NPC1 sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification assay which revealed a maternal missense mutation (c.2608T>C; p.Ser870Pro) and a paternal deletion of exons 5 to 25. This additional prenatal case of NPC suggests that even in the absence of family history, fetal ascites associated with splenomegaly but no hydrops should nonetheless arouse suspicion concerning this disease as a possible diagnosis.

Abstract: In addition to site characterization, measurements of critical atmospheric parameters are required to design and to optimize future adaptive optic systems and long-baseline interferometers. It is possible to estimate seeing conditions by processing data obtained with existing High Angular Resolution instruments. We report the results of joint observations with the GI2T interferometer and the GSM site-testing monitor performed over a period of several nights. We compared estimates of the wavefront outer scale done at various baselines as well as the seeing (Fried’s parameter). We processed interferometric data by calculating power spectra of dispersed fringe images. Deduced measurements of the optical path difference lead to the estimates of the outer scale. We found that the outer scale values obtained from the GI2T data are mostly in the 5−30 m range, in good agreement with GSM measurements.

Passee la periode neonatale, l'evolution des hamartomes cardiaques est le plus souvent favorable et caracterisee par une involution, au moins partielle. Observation – Des images echographiques cardiaques antenatales precoces et douteuses n'ont pas permis de poser le diagnostic chez un fœtus dont le pere etait atteint de la sclerose tubereuse de Bourneville. Les autres investigations antenatales (genetique, IRM cerebrale) n'etaient pas contributives. Le diagnostic a ete porte avec certitude par l'echographie cardiaque postnatale, qui revelait deux hamartomes intracardiaques. Conclusion – Meme oriente, le diagnostic antenatal de la maladie de Bourneville est difficile. La presence d'hamartomes cardiaques des la periode neonatale precoce est un moyen fiable de porter le diagnostic. L'histoire naturelle des hamartomes cardiaques de la sclerose tubereuse de Bourneville semble etre une involution spontanee au moins partielle.

Abstract: The design of crankshaft bearings is carried out with software using many assumptions on the geometrical and operating bearing parameters. The calculation results are thus more or less close to reality according to the assumptions used. In order to know the level of accuracy of the theoretical results, it is necessary to compare these results with those obtained by experimentation. This paper describes the experimental measurements and the theoretical calculations of oil-film thickness in a dynamically loaded crankshaft main bearing. Four eddy current gap sensors for each bearing are used to measure the oil-film thickness and to deduce the shaft trajectories. The elastohydrodynamic model considers the bearings, housing and crankshaft elastic deformations. The calculation process uses the finite element method and the Newton-Raphson method for the numerical analysis. Comparisons of the load effects and crankshaft speed are made between the experiment and the theory.

26. Le syndrome de Wiedemann-Steiner : un exemple d’hypertrichose localisée héréditaire

Abstract: Introduction Les hypertrichoses de l’enfant peuvent etre generalisees ou localisees. Les hypertrichoses generalisees necessitent la realisation d’un bilan endocrinologique a la recherche d’une pathologie endocrinienne sous-jacente et potentiellement curable. En revanche, les hypertrichoses localisees sont de diagnostic etiologique plus difficile. L’hypertrichose cubitale est une forme particuliere d’hypertrichose congenitale localisee caracterisee par une pilosite excessive au niveau de la face d’extension des coudes. Nous rapportons ici l’observation d’une jeune patiente presentant une hypertrichose cubitale s’integrant dans le cadre d’un syndrome de Wiedemann-Steiner. Observations Une enfant etait suivie pour un retard des acquisitions psychomotrices modere dans un contexte de retard de croissance intra-uterin (RCIU) sans etiologie trouvee. Elle presentait egalement une microcephalie et une myopie. Une consultation en dermatologie etait motivee par une hypertrichose severe, predominant sur les membres superieurs, en regard des coudes. L’ensemble du tableau clinique associe a cette hypertrichose localisee faisait evoquer un syndrome de Wiedemann-Steiner (WSS). La suspicion de WSS etait confirmee par biologie moleculaire avec la mise en evidence d’une mutation de novo au niveau du 23e exon du gene KMT2A. Une premiere prise en charge par lumiere pulsee n’avait pas ete efficace. L’instauration d’un traitement topique par eflornithine s’etait averee efficace mais ce traitement n’avait pas pu etre poursuivi car non rembourse. Discussion Notre patiente presentait un WSS defini par l’association cardinale d’une hypertrichose cubitale et d’un retard des acquisitions. Le gene KMT2A, mute dans le WSS, code pour une histone methyltransferase regulant la transcription de plusieurs genes et notamment les genes HOX intervenant en periode post-natale sur la pilosite. Le defaut de methylation des genes HOX empeche leur inhibition. Des mutations heterozygotes non sens, aboutissant a la fin precoce de la transcription de cette proteine, ont ete decrites dans les observations de WSS et evoquent alors un mecanisme physiopathologique par haplo-insuffisance. Les differentes observations de WSS decrites dans la litterature n’ont pas toutes des phenotypes superposables. D’autres manifestations peuvent etre observees telles que dysmorphie faciale, retard staturoponderal, retard mental, hypotonie et clinodactylie. Cependant, l’hypertrichose cubitale est la manifestation clinique la plus frequemment associee a ce syndrome. Les recours therapeutiques restent modestes, limitant le traitement de l’hypertrichose a une prise en charge symptomatique (rasage, decoloration, laser epilatoire). Conclusion Notre observation souligne la necessite d’evoquer le diagnostic de Wiedemann-Steiner devant l’association d’un retard des acquisitions et d’une hypertrichose cubitale.

27. Removing the photon-centroiding hole in optical stellar interferometry

Abstract: We describe a technique to remove the photon- centroiding hole from event-sensitive intensied cameras. This eect degrades the average power-spectrum of short- exposures and can bias the fringe visibility estimates from a long baseline stellar interferometer. Using a simple nu- merical model and 2D interpolating techniques we show that this hole can be corrected directly from actual inter- ferograms on the object itself. We apply our technique to stars with dierent visual magnitudes, i.e. dierent photon rates, which have been observed by the GI2T interferom- eter. The proposed method can signicantly improve the GI2T observations providing robust estimates of visibili- ties whatever the photon rate in clipped short exposures.

Abstract: We report on the results of an observing run of Cassiopeiae using the optical long baseline interfer- ometer Grand Interf erom etre a 2T elescopes (GI2T) in the southern France equipped with lm-sheet polarizers. Four interferometric baselines ranging from 20 to 40 m were obtained on this star during 1994 on September 5th and 6th, with Cephei as a calibrator. We aimed at detecting possible variations of the angular diameter of Cas as a function of polarization directions parallel and orthogonal to the north-south baseline of the GI2T. We do not detect any variation of the visibility as a function of Hour Angle on Cephei, neither on Cas. We nd an upper limit of 1.3 on the ratio of the angular diameters of the envelope of Cas seen through polarizers parallel and perpendicular to the North-South direction of the GI2T's baseline. We discuss how this limit could constrain density laws in the wind of this Be star. We clearly resolve Cas for increas- ing baselines in the red continuum whatever the polar- ization. Assuming the continuum flux originating from a photosphere surrounded by an elliptical gaussian envelope we estimate the extent of the latter as (2:9 0:5) mas. This diameter agrees well with the H emitting envelope as obtained by other interferometers.

Abstract: The present study was designed to examine the effects of administration of a GABAergic agonist (Baclofen) on run-time to exhaustion in trained and untrained rats, and on some indicators of fatigue. Run-time to exhaustion on a treadmill set at a speed of 25 m.min-1 was significantly increased in both untrained (p < 0.01) and trained rats (p < 0.005) administered with baclofen one hour before the exercise. The animals who had run the longest time displayed the lowest concentrations of liver and muscle glycogen, and a decrease in plasma glucose concentrations (p < 0.05). The results of this investigation suggest that fatigue during prolonged exercise can be influenced by pharmacological administration of a GABAergic agonist. Indicators of fatigue such as glycemia, liver and muscular glycogen are not the limiting factors of performance and central mechanisms play a key role at exhaustion.

Abstract: The capability of optical long baseline interferometry for measuring the angular diameter of stars or binary separation is now well established. However, for the imaging of photospheric disk structures one needs very long baseline interferometers operated in the multi-telescope phase-closure technique. In this paper we will stress the capability of spectro-interferometric measurements to constrain the physics of hot stars. We will report our study of the interacting binary, β Lyrae, and the mass-losing Be star γ Cassiopeiae. We will look at the interpretation of both the modulus and phase data recorded by the long baseline interferometer GI2T in the southern France. The performances and limitations of spectro-interferometric techniques will also be discussed through some of the most exciting prospects within the reach of current interferometers.

Abstract: Behr syndrome is a complex genetic disorder occurring in children. It associates optic nerve atrophy and spinocerebellar degeneration (ataxia, pyramidal signs), some patients also presenting with peripheral neuropathy. Transmission is generally autosomal recessive and in some cases is related to mutation in OPA1 , a gene encoding a dynamin-related GTPase. 4 children (age 3–14 y-o) with severe visual loss and balance impairment due to OPA1 gene mutations underwent electrodiagnostic (EDX) examination. They presented with early visual loss, mixed cerebellar and proprioceptive ataxia. Some also had pyramidal signs. Compound heterozygous OPA1 mutations were found in all cases. EDX examination demonstrated a severe sensory neuropathy with absent sensory potentials or dramatic decrease of the amplitude, in contrast with normal motor nerve conduction parameters and needle EMG. To date, compound heterozygosity for OPA1 has been proven in only three patients from two unrelated families and neuropathy was not specifically assessed. This is therefore the first report demonstrating the occurrence of severe sensory neuropathy in such cases. Peripheral neuropathy sometimes represents a useful help in the diagnosis of a neurological or metabolic disease occurring in children. The search for sensory neuropathy in children with optic atrophy can be helpful in orientating the genetic diagnosis.

33. Michelson-Spectro-Interferometry (MSI) of Be stars envelopes with the GI2T Interferometer

Abstract: The GI2T is an optical long-baseline Michelson interferometer which analyses dispersed stellar fringes in the multi-speckle mode with a spectral resolution of one Angstrom while the spatial resolution is about one milliarcsecond. This makes the GI2T a powerful instrument able to perform MSI of extended sources like Be stars or shell stars. In order to interpret these data we have developed a latitude dependent radiative wind model for Be stars. This numerical code enables us to compare directly computed 2D maps in some Balmer lines (Hα and Hβ) with high angular resolution data of some Be stars.

Abstract: Although stellar interferometers are capable of measuring the angular diameters of stars, with longer baselines they may also be used to measure brightness variations across a star's surface and to provide constraints on models of stellar envelopes. In this paper we will look at the interpretation of visibility data and some of the more exciting prospects within the reach of current interferometers.

Abstract: We report the observation of T Tau by visible speckle interferometry at the CFHT. The observations were carried out at two wavelengths simultaneously. Each image was split into two, allowing improved data processing. The 4-channel photon-counting detector CP40 was used. We have discovered that 30% of the total energy at Hα is emitted by an extended elliptical component, with a FWHM of 70 marcsec. In the neighbouring continuum, T Tau is not resolved by the 3.60 m CFHT. We briefly discuss the astrophysical consequences of this new result.

Abstract: Context. In long-baseline interferometry, images or astrophysical parameters are obtained from the raw fringe contrast after a careful calibration process. We have already developed the software (SearchCal) to select suitable bright calibration stars (V ≤ 10; K ≤ 5.0) for obtaining the ultimate precision of current interferometric instruments like the VLTI. With the expected gain in sensitivity of AMBER and PRIMA on the VLTI, the need for fainter calibrators should now be adressed. Aims. We present a new version of SearchCal dedicated to the creation of an evolving catalog of stars suitable as calibrators with K magnitude >5 around the scientific target. Methods. Star catalogs available at the CDS are searched via web requests and provide the useful astrometric and photometric informations for selecting calibrators. The missing photometries are computed with an accuracy of about 0.1 mag. The stellar angular diameter is estimated with a precision of about 10% through newly determined surface-brightness versus color-index relations based on the I, J, H and K magnitudes. For each star the squared visibility is computed taking into account the central wavelength and the maximum baseline of the predicted observations. Results. The version of SearchCal for faint objects that allows to find calibrators for interferometric observations up to K ∼ 15 is available as a web service at the address: http://www.jmmc.fr/searchcal

Abstract: Context. Five different physical processes might be responsible for the formation of decretion disks around Be stars: fast rotation of the star, stellar pulsations, binarity, stellar winds, and magnetic fields. Our observations indicate that fast rotation seems to produce a disk in Keplerian rotation, at least in the specific case of the two stars observed. We do not know if this observational result is a generality or not. Aims. We measure the size, orientation, shape, and kinematics of the disks around 2 Be stars, namely 48 Per and ψ Per. Methods. We used the VEGA/CHARA interferometer with a spectral resolution of 5000 to obtain spectrally dispersed visibility modulus and phases within the Hα emission line. Results. We were able to estimate the disk extension in the continuum and in the Hα line, as well as flattening, for both stars. Both stars rotate at nearly a critical rotation, but while the disk of 48 Per seems to be in Keplerian rotation, our preliminary data suggest that the disk of ψ Per is possibly faster than Keplerian, similarly to what has been found for κ CMa with observations carried out in the near-IR. However, more data is needed to confirm the fast rotation of the disk. Conclusions. Assuming a simple uniform disk model for the stellar photosphere in the continuum and a Gaussian brightness distribution in the line emission region, we obtain a ratio of the disk diameter over the photospheric diameter of 8 for 48 Per and 11 for and ψ Per. We also found that the major axis of 48 Per is parallel to the polarization angle and not perpendicular to it as previously observed for many Be stars, including ψ Per. This might be due to the optical thickness of the disk, which is also responsible for the incoherent scattering of a non negligible part of the Hα line emission. To our knowledge, this is the first time that this effect has been measured in a Be star.

The SIDONIE database is implemented on the Web and allows astronomers to prepare new observations, find data to calculate new orbits or obtain statistical information on the stars in the database.

45. Dispersed fringe tracking with the multi-r(0) apertures of the Grand Interféromètre à 2 Télescopes

Abstract: A new fringe tracker based on photon-counting detectors and real-time image processing has been implemented on the Grand Interféromètre à 2 Télescopes at the Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur. Fringe visibilities have been recorded on P Cygni and other stars across the Hαemission line with optical path differences stabilized to between 4 and 7 µm rms (1% of the coherence length). We present our initial results and describe the principle, implementation, and performance of the fringe tracker.

Abstract: Hereditary optic neuropathies, resulting from retinal ganglion cell degeneration, are a heterogeneous group of diseases ranging from asymptomatic forms to legal blindness.Two most frequent phenotypes are Kjer's disease, an autosomal dominant optic atrophy caused by OPA1 gene mutations, and Leber's disease due to maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA mutations.Both optic neuropathies usually isolated are sometimes associated with extraocular symptoms, especially neurological symptoms, thus justifying a systematic neurological evaluation and brain imaging.

Abstract: High-precision interferometric measurements of pulsating stars help to characterize their close environment. In 1974, a close companion was discovered around the pulsating star beta Cep using the speckle interferometry technique and features at the limit of resolution (20 milli-arcsecond or mas) of the instrument were mentioned that may be due to circumstellar material. Beta Cep has a magnetic field that might be responsible for a spherical shell or ring-like structure around the star as described by the MHD models. Using the visible recombiner VEGA installed on the CHARA long-baseline interferometer at Mt. Wilson, we aim to determine the angular diameter of beta Cep and resolve its close environment with a spatial resolution up to 1 mas level. Medium spectral resolution (R=6000) observations of beta Cep were secured with the VEGA instrument over the years 2008 and 2009. These observations were performed with the S1S2 (30m) and W1W2 (100m) baselines of the array. We investigated several models to reproduce our observations. A large-scale structure of a few mas is clearly detected around the star with a typical flux relative contribution of 0.23 +- 0.02. Our best model is a co-rotational geometrical thin ring around the star as predicted by magnetically-confined wind shock models. The ring inner diameter is 8.2 +- 0.8 mas and the width is 0.6 +- 0.7 mas. The orientation of the rotation axis on the plane of the sky is PA = 60 +- 1 deg, while the best fit of the mean angular diameter of beta Cep gives UD[V] = 0.22 +- 0.05 mas. Our data are compatible with the predicted position of the close companion of beta Cep. These results bring additional constraints on the fundamental parameters and on the future MHD and asteroseismological models of the star., Comment: Paper accepted for publication in A&A (in press)

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents the current status of the VEGA (Visible spEctroGraph and polArimeter) instrument installed at the coherent focus of the CHARA Array, Mount Wilson CA. Installed in september 2007, the first science programs have started during summer 2008 and first science results are now published. Dedicated to high angular (0.3mas) and high spectral (R=30000) astrophysical studies, VEGA main objectives are the study of circumstellar environments of hot active stars or interactive binary systems and a large palette of new programs dedicated to fundamental stellar parameters. We will present successively the main characteristics of the instrument and its current performances in the CHARA environment, a short summary of two science programs and finally we will develop some studies showing the potential and difficulties of the 3 telescopes mode of VEGA/CHARA.

Abstract: International audience; Context. BA-type supergiants are amongst the most optically-bright stars. They are observable in extragalactic environments, hence potential accurate distance indicators. Aims. An extensive record of emission activity in the H alpha line of the BA supergiants beta Orionis (Rigel, B8Ia) and alpha Cygni (Deneb, A2Ia) is indicative of localized time-dependent mass ejections. However, little is known about the spatial distribution of these apparent structures. Here, we employ optical interferometry to study the H alpha line-formation region in these stellar environments. Methods. High spatial- (similar to 0.001 `') and spectral- (R = 30 000) resolution observations of H alpha were obtained with the visible recombiner VEGA installed on the CHARA interferometer, using the S1S2 array-baseline (34 m). Six independent observations were done on Deneb during the years 2008 and 2009, and two of Rigel in 2009. We analyze this dataset with the 1D non-LTE radiative-transfer code CMFGEN, and assess the impact of the wind on the visible and near-IR interferometric signatures, using both Balmer-line and continuum photons. Results. We observe a visibility decrease in H alpha for both Rigel and Deneb, suggesting that the line-formation region is extended (similar to 1.5-1.75 R-*). We observe a significant visibility decrease for Deneb in the SiII 6371 angstrom line. We witness time variations in the differential phase for Deneb, implying an inhomogeneous and unsteady circumstellar environment, while no such variability is seen in differential visibilities. Radiative-transfer modeling of Deneb, with allowance for stellar-wind mass loss, accounts fairly well for the observed decrease in the H alpha visibility. Based on the observed differential visibilities, we estimate that the mass-loss rate of Deneb has changed by less than 5%.

Abstract: The “Grand Interféromètre à deux Télescopes” (GI2T) is presently the largest operational interferometer operating at visible wavelengths (Labeyrie et al. 1986, Mourard et al. 1991). With two telescopes of 1.5-m aperture and baselines reaching 65 m in the North–South direction, it gives stellar spectra containing interference fringes, which provide high angular resolution measurements in the range of one milliarcsecond.The GI2T optical combination follows the Michelson principle of output pupil remapping to preserve a constant fringe spacing on the detector for stable and economical spatial sampling. The stellar light is dispersed in order to study the fringes parameters simultaneously with the spectral information. The direction of dispersion is perpendicular to that of the recombined pupils. Due to atmospheric turbulence the instantaneous images contain about 100 speckles. To freeze the atmospheric turbulence a temporal resolution of at least 10 milliseconds is needed.
