This article discusses the conceptual bridges between the leadership learning framework; specifically, its emphasis on metacognition and social justice advocacy, and explores how leadership education might be revamped. The focus of the article is practicing socially shared metacognition using the American Counseling Association's (ACA) advocacy competencies model. The purpose of the ACA advocacy model is to offer comprehensive advocacy--at individual, group, and community dimensions--with interventions aimed at systematic change. The model stresses creating alliances and working with the community. The article concludes with the practical implications of applying metacognition in leadership education and additional resources. A case example (Kai) is used throughout this article.

At the time of his death, Dr. Adam Peck served as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Illinois State University. During his 25 years in student affairs, he served in a variety of other roles, including assistant vice president and dean of students at Stephen F. Austin State University and director of student life at Saint Louis University. Adam was unique in that he was a student affairs professional who met the criteria of being a practitioner-scholar, an administrator in which research, contributing to it and consuming it, plays a significant role. Dr. Peck not only wanted to engage in scholarly pursuits, he needed to because he believed writing clarified his thinking about complex issues and guided his practice. On the morning of September 30th, 2022, Adam died from injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident. He was 49 years old. His name may not be well recognized in higher education, but he was not one for fanfare or the spotlight. Yet, he did his best to help students succeed. As highlighted in this article, to those who knew Dr. Peck, he was a storyteller. He told and enacted stories of caring, curiosity, compassion, scholarship, and intellectualism -- a life lived well. This article is his story as well as the story of how the campus activities profession must continue his work.

Though promoting student advocacy has become an essential part of leadership education, few studies explore development of advocacy in leadership education. This article offers how distortions, an aspect of a Black feminist reframing of dissonance, is related to existing leadership education literature. It then introduces students' voices demonstrating the importance of the realization of distortions in student advocacy development and links distortions with how power communicates and upholds systemic oppression. Finally, we offer practical recommendations based on a case scenario that utilize Black feminist perspectives of dissonance in refining student advocacy leadership education. Such insight prompts more effective strategies in student advocate development.

Though advocacy and activism have been frequent topics of research, few studies explore this work across campus roles, meaning inclusive of students, faculty, and staff. A more holistic understanding of advocacy would pave the way for more effective social justice efforts. Researchers used hermeneutic phenomenology to engage with 26 advocates finding that identity influences advocacy; advocates work for, with, and to others; and advocates take risks with consequences associated with their identities. The American Counseling Association's Advocacy Competencies extended the analysis to reveal the lack of alliances in cross-campus advocacy.

Objectives: To unravel the still unexplored HBV-replicative kinetics in anti-HBc-positive/HBsAg-negative people-with-HIV (PWH) suspending tenofovir disoproxil-fumarate/tenofovir-alafenamide (TDF/TAF). Methods: A total of 101 anti-HBc-positive/HBsAg-negative PWH switching to TDF/TAF-sparing therapy were included. Serum HBV-DNA and HBV-RNA were quantified by droplet-digital-PCR at switching (T0), within 12 months (T1) and 12-24 months postswitch (T2). Results: At T0, 33.7% had cryptic HBV-DNA (undetected by commercial assays, median [interquartile range (IQR)]: 2 [1-5] IU/mL) and 22% were positive to HBV-RNA alone (median [IQR]: 4 [3-4] IU/mL), indicating an active HBV-reservoir despite HBsAg-negativity and TDF/TAF-pressure. Notably, anti-HBs-titer 10 IU/mL increased from 12.9% at T1 to 42.6% at T2 (P < 0.0001). Likewise, a rise from 2 to 11% was observed for HBV-DNA >100 IU/mL (P = 0.02); median (IQR) HBV-DNA: 579 (425-770) IU/mL. Notably, HBV-DNA >10 IU/mL at T2 occurred in 70% of PWH with cryptic HBV-DNA, in 38.5% with HBV-RNA alone and in 25% negative to both HBV-markers at T0 (P = 0.01). Cryptic HBV-DNA at T0 and lower nadir CD4+ T-cell-count independently predicted HBV-DNA >10 IU/mL at T2 (OR [95% CI]: 8.2 [1.7-40.6], P = 0.01; OR [95% CI]: 8.1 [1.3-52.1], P = 0.03). Lastly, persistent HBV-DNA positivity was independently associated with a reduced CD4+ T-cell recovery at T2 (OR [95% CI]: 0.07 [0.01-0.77], P = 0.03). Conclusion: This study underlines the importance to regularly monitor anti-HBc-positive/HBsAg-negative PWH undergoing TDF/TAF-sparing regimen and the role of highly-sensitive HBV markers in optimizing their management.

Objective: Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) reduced Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) hospitalizations in people at risk of clinical worsening. Real-world descriptions are limited. Methods: CONDIVIDIAMO, a two-year multicenter observational study, consecutively enrolled SARS-CoV-2 outpatients with ≥1 risk factor for COVID-19 progression receiving mAbs. Demographic data, underlying medical condition, type of mAbs combination received, duration of symptoms before mAbs administration, COVID-19 vaccination history, were collected upon enrolment and centrally recorded. Data on outcomes (hospitalizations, reasons of hospitalization, deaths) were prospectively collected. The primary endpoint was the rate of hospitalization or death in a 28-day follow-up, whichever occurred first; subjects were censored at the day of last follow-up or up to 28 days. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the incidence rate curve in time. The Cox regression model was used to assess potential risk factors for unfavorable outcome. Results were shown as hazard ratio (HR) along with the corresponding 95 % Confidence Interval (95%CI). Results: Among 1534 subjects (median [interquartile range, IQR] age 66.5 [52.4–74.9] years, 693 [45.2 %] women), 632 (41.2 %) received bamlanivimab ± etesevimab, 209 (13.6 %) casirivimab/imdevimab, 586 (38.2 %) sotrovimab, 107 (7.0 %) tixagevimab/cilgavimab. After 28-day follow-up, 87/1534 (5.6 %, 95%CI: 4.4%–6.8 %) met the primary outcome (85 hospitalizations, 2 deaths). Hospitalizations for COVID-19 (52, 3.4 %) occurred earlier than for other reasons (33, 2.1 %), after a median (IQR) of 3.5 (1–7) versus 8 (3–15) days (p = 0.006) from mAbs administration.In a multivariable Cox regression model, factors independently associated with increased hospitalization risk were age (hazard ratio [HR] 1.02, 95%CI 1.00–1.03, p = 0.021), immunodeficiency (HR 1.78, 95%CI 1.11–2.85, p = 0.017), pre-Omicron calendar period (HR 1.66, 95%CI 1.02–2.69, p = 0.041). Conclusions: MAbs real-world data over a 2-year changing pandemic landscape showed the feasibility of the intervention, although the hospitalization rate was not negligible. Immunosuppressed subjects remain more at risk of clinical worsening.

RESUMO O controle dos agregados monetários no Brasil enfrenta três grandes problemas: 1) alto déficit orçamentário do governo; 2) a ineficácia da taxa de juros como instrumento de política em um ambiente de alta inflação; 3) inovação financeira imprevisível. Os dois primeiros problemas são especialmente importantes quando se tenta projetar programas de estabilização. Depois que a inflação atinge um certo nível, as políticas monetárias padrão tornam-se impotentes. O controle do déficit orçamentário (ou seja, a limitação do uso do imposto inflacionário) torna-se uma condição necessária para a estabilização.

Background: This study examined the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescriptions among persons living with HIV (PWH) in Italy. Methods: Data from the ICONA cohort included ART-naïve individuals who started ART between January 2019 and December 2022, and ART-experienced individuals who started new ART with HIV RNA ≤50 cps/mL from January 2016 to December 2022. The analysis focused on the proportion of PWH starting or switching to dual (2DR) versus triple (3DR) ART regimens. Comparisons were made using Chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests, with logistic regression (LR) to assess associations, adjusting for sex and age. Results: Among 2481 ART-naïve PWH, 17% were female, with a median age of 40. Using 2020 as the comparator (the lockdown year), the odds ratio (OR) from fitting a LR showed a reduced probability of prescribing 2DR both before and after 2020. The proportion of PWH starting 2DR was 9% in 2019, 18% in 2020, 13% in 2021, and 10% in 2022. Among 12,335 ART-experienced PWH, 20% were female, with a median age of 47. The proportion switching to 2DR rose from 24% in 2016 to 38% in 2020, 62% in 2021, and 65% in 2022, showing a >3-fold higher probability to be switched to 2DR instead of 3DR in recent years (2021-2022). Conclusions: For ART-naive PWH, 2DR initiation did not decrease during the 2020 lockdown but changed in the following years, possibly indicating shifts in clinical practice or resuming HIV services. For ART-experienced PWH, 2DR prescriptions increased significantly over time, especially for INSTI-based regimens.

Objectives: To investigate whether SARS-CoV-2 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccination has an impact on HIV-related viro-immunological parameters. Methods: People with HIV (PWH) in the VAXICONA-ORCHESTRA cohort who received one or more doses of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine and for whom paired measures of immuno-virological markers (viral load, clusters of differentiation [CD]4, and CD8 count 1 month before and after a vaccine dose [VD]) were available were included. Paired t-test and generalized estimating equation linear regression analyses were used to study changes over ± 1 month around the VD. Subgroup analyses were performed. Results: A total of 510 PWH were enrolled: the median age was 55 years (interquartile range 46-60 years), the CD4 and CD8 count were 489 (287-719) and 790 (59-1104) cells/mm3, respectively, and 81% received three VDs. After a median of 28 (3-53) days from VD, CD4 count increased by +15 cells/mm3 (SD ± 129.7, P = 0.001) and CD8 by +12 (±250.5, P = 0.199) and the viral load decreased by −0.11 log10 (±0.88, P = 0.001). Similar results were observed after restricting the analysis to viro-suppressed PWH, with CD4 ≤200/mm3, more than 6 months of antiretroviral therapy before VD and after excluding previous COVID-19. Conclusions: A small significant increase in CD4 count and a negligible drop in HIV RNA were observed. Our findings are consistent with the hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine can prime CD4 T spike-specific cells, even in the more immuno-compromised PWH.

Over the last years computer modelling and simulation has emerged as an effective tool to support the total product life cycle of cardiovascular devices, particularly in the device preclinical evaluation and post-market assessment. Computational modelling is particularly relevant for heart valve prostheses, which require an extensive assessment of their hydrodynamic performance and of risks of hemolysis and thromboembolic complications associated with mechanically-induced blood damage. These biomechanical aspects are typically evaluated through a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) approach, which enables valve fluid dynamics evaluation accounting for leaflets movement. In this context, the present narrative review focuses on the computational modelling of bileaflet mechanical aortic valves through FSI approach, aiming to foster and guide the use of simulations in device total product life cycle. The state of the art of FSI simulation of heart valve prostheses is reviewed to highlight the variety of modelling strategies adopted in the literature. Furthermore, the integration of FSI simulations in the total product life cycle of bileaflet aortic valves is discussed, with particular emphasis on the role of simulations in complementing and potentially replacing the experimental tests suggested by international standards. Simulations credibility assessment is also discussed in the light of recently published guidelines, thus paving the way for a broader inclusion of in silico evidence in regulatory submissions. The present narrative review highlights that FSI simulations can be successfully framed within the total product life cycle of bileaflet mechanical aortic valves, emphasizing that credible in silico models evaluating the performance of implantable devices can (at least) partially replace preclinical in vitro experimentation and support post-market biomechanical evaluation, leading to a reduction in both time and cost required for device development.

Objectives: Heavily treatment-experienced (HTE) people living with HIV (PLWH) pose unique challenges due to limited antiretroviral treatment (ART) options. Our study aimed to investigate the prevalence and features of HTE individuals followed up in the Italian Cohort Naïve Antiretrovirals (ICONA) cohort as of December 31, 2021. Methods: HTE were defined based on meeting specific conditions concerning their current ART and their ART history up to December 31, 2021. Descriptive statistics were performed by HTE status. Regression analyses explored factors associated with becoming HTE based on pre-ART patients' characteristics. Cluster dendrogram analysis provided insights into subgroups with inadequate responses based on clusters of differentiation (CD4) counts and viral load (VL) trajectories. Results: Among the 8758 PLWH actively followed in our cohort, 163 individuals (1.9%), mainly female, younger, Italian, and infected through heterosexual contact, met the HTE criteria. A lower CD4 count at ART initiation (odds ratio [OR] 1.60 per 100 cells/mmc lower CD4, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.06-2.41, P = 0.03) and hepatitis C virus antibody positivity (OR 1.90, 95% CI 1.16-3.11, P = 0.01) were associated with higher HTE risk. Thirty PLWH exhibited ongoing immune-virological failure (18% of the HTE subgroup and 0.003% of the total population). Background: Mpox virus (MPXV) has recently spread outside of sub-Saharan Africa. This large multicentre study was conducted in Lombardy, the most densely populated Italian region accounting for more than 40% of Italian cases. The present study aims to: i) evaluate the presence and the shedding duration of MPXV DNA in different body compartments correlating the MPXV viability with the time to onset of symptoms; ii) provide evidence of MPXV persistence in different body compartment as a source of infection and iii) characterize the MPXV evolution by whole genome sequencing (WGS) during the outbreak occurred in Italy. Material and methods: The study included 353 patients with a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of MPXV infection screened in several clinical specimens in the period May 24th - September 1st, 2022. Viral isolation was attempted from different biological matrices and complete genome sequencing was performed for 61 MPXV strains. Results: MPXV DNA detection was more frequent in the skin (94.4%) with the longest median time of viral clearance (16 days). The impact of common and rare variants in COVID-19 host genetics has been widely studied. In particular, in Fallerini et al. (Human genetics, 2022, 141, 147–173), common and rare variants were used to define an interpretable machine learning model for predicting COVID-19 severity. First, variants were converted into sets of Boolean features, depending on the absence or the presence of variants in each gene. An ensemble of LASSO logistic regression models was used to identify the most informative Boolean features with respect to the genetic bases of severity. After that, the Boolean features, selected by these logistic models, were combined into an Integrated PolyGenic Score (IPGS), which offers a very simple description of the contribution of host genetics in COVID-19 severity.. IPGS leads to an accuracy of 55%–60% on different cohorts, and, after a logistic regression with both IPGS and age as inputs, it leads to an accuracy of 75%. The goal of this paper is to improve the previous results, using not only the most informative Boolean features with respect to the genetic bases of severity but also the information on host organs involved in the disease. In this study, we generalize the IPGS adding a statistical weight for each organ, through the transformation of Boolean features into “Boolean quantum features,” inspired by quantum mechanics. The organ coefficients were set via the application of the genetic algorithm PyGAD, and, after that, we defined two new integrated polygenic scores (IPGSph1 and IPGSph2). By applying a logistic regression with both IPGS, (IPGSph2 (or indifferently IPGSph1) and age as inputs, we reached an accuracy of 84%–86%, thus improving the results previously shown in Fallerini et al. (Human genetics, 2022, 141, 147–173) by a factor of 10%.

ObjectivesHIV outcomes centre primarily around clinical markers with limited focus on patient-reported outcomes. With a global trend towards capturing the outcomes that matter most to patients, there is agreement that standardizing the definition of value in HIV care is key to their incorporation. This study aims to address the lack of routine, standardized data in HIV care.MethodsAn international working group (WG) of 37 experts and patients, and a steering group (SG) of 18 experts were convened from 14 countries. The project team (PT) identified outcomes by conducting a literature review, screening 1979 articles and reviewing the full texts of 547 of these articles. Semi-structured interviews and advisory groups were performed with the WG, SG and people living with HIV to add to the list of potentially relevant outcomes. The WG voted via a modified Delphi process - informed by six Zoom calls - to establish a core set of outcomes for use in clinical practice.ResultsFrom 156 identified outcomes, consensus was reached to include three patient-reported outcomes, four clinician-reported measures and one administratively reported outcome; standardized measures were included. The WG also reached agreement to measure 22 risk-adjustment variables. This outcome set can be applied to any person living with HIV aged > 18 years.ConclusionsAdoption of the HIV360 outcome set will enable healthcare providers to record, compare and integrate standardized metrics across treatment sites to drive quality improvement in HIV care.

Objectives: We aimed to study whether people living with HIV (PLWH) are at higher risk of in-hospital COVID-19 mortality compared to the general population (GenPop). Methods: This was a retrospective study in 19 Italian centers (February 2020 to November 2022) including hospitalized PLWH and GenPop with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The main outcome was in-hospital mortality. Competing risk analyses by Fine-Gray regression model were used to estimate the association between in-hospital mortality and HIV status/age. Results: A total of 7399 patients with COVID-19 were included, 239 (3.2%) PLWH, and 7160 (96.8%) GenPop. By day 40, in-hospital death occurred in 1283/7160 (17.9%) among GenPop and 34/239 (14.2%) among PLWH. Abstract Background Post-COVID-19 condition refers to persistent or new onset symptoms occurring three months after acute COVID-19, which are unrelated to alternative diagnoses. Symptoms include fatigue, breathlessness, palpitations, pain, concentration difficulties ("brain fog"), sleep disorders, and anxiety/depression. The prevalence of post-COVID-19 condition ranges widely across studies, affecting 10–20% of patients and reaching 50–60% in certain cohorts, while the associated risk factors remain poorly understood. Methods This multicentre cohort study, both retrospective and prospective, aims to assess the incidence and risk factors of post-COVID-19 condition in a cohort of recovered patients. Secondary objectives include evaluating the association between circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants and the risk of post-COVID-19 condition, as well as assessing long-term residual organ damage (lung, heart, central nervous system, peripheral nervous system) in relation to patient characteristics and virology (variant and viral load during the acute phase). Participants will include hospitalised and outpatient COVID-19 patients diagnosed between 01/03/2020 and 01/02/2025 from 8 participating centres. A control group will consist of hospitalised patients with respiratory infections other than COVID-19 during the same period. Patients will be followed up at the post-COVID-19 clinic of each centre at 2–3, 6–9, and 12–15 months after clinical recovery. Routine blood exams will be conducted, and patients will complete questionnaires to assess persisting symptoms, fatigue, dyspnoea, quality of life, disability, anxiety and depression, and post-traumatic stress disorders. Discussion This study aims to understand post-COVID-19 syndrome's incidence and predictors by comparing pandemic waves, utilising retrospective and prospective data. Gender association, especially the potential higher prevalence in females, will be investigated. Symptom tracking via questionnaires and scales will monitor duration and evolution. Questionnaires will also collect data on vaccination, reinfections, and new health issues. Biological samples will enable future studies on post-COVID-19 sequelae mechanisms, including inflammation, immune dysregulation, and viral reservoirs. BackgroundRemdesivir, a nucleotide analogue prodrug that inhibits viral RNA polymerases, has shown in vitro activity against SARS-CoV-2.MethodsWe provided remdesivir on a compassionate-use basis to patients hospitalized with Covid-19, the illness caused by infection with SARS-CoV-2. Patients were those with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who had an oxygen saturation of 94% or less while they were breathing ambient air or who were receiving oxygen support. Patients received a 10-day course of remdesivir, consisting of 200 mg administered intravenously on day 1, followed by 100 mg daily for the remaining 9 days of treatment. This report is based on data from patients who received remdesivir during the period from January 25, 2020, through March 7, 2020, and have clinical data for at least 1 subsequent day.ResultsOf the 61 patients who received at least one dose of remdesivir, data from 8 could not be analyzed (including 7 patients with no post-treatment data and 1 with a dosing error). Of the 53 patients whose data were analyzed, 22 were in the United States, 22 in Europe or Canada, and 9 in Japan. At baseline, 30 patients (57%) were receiving mechanical ventilation and 4 (8%) were receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. During a median follow-up of 18 days, 36 patients (68%) had an improvement in oxygen-support class, including 17 of 30 patients (57%) receiving mechanical ventilation who were extubated. A total of 25 patients (47%) were discharged, and 7 patients (13%) died; mortality was 18% (6 of 34) among patients receiving invasive ventilation and 5% (1 of 19) among those not receiving invasive ventilation.ConclusionsIn this cohort of patients hospitalized for severe Covid-19 who were treated with compassionate-use remdesivir, clinical improvement was observed in 36 of 53 patients (68%). Measurement of efficacy will require ongoing randomized, placebo-controlled trials of remdesivir therapy. (Funded by Gilead Sciences.).

The ability to predict a protein's three-dimensional conformation represents a crucial starting point for investigating evolutionary connections with other members of the corresponding protein family, examining interactions with other proteins, and potentially utilizing this knowledge for the purpose of rational drug design. In this work, we evaluated the feasibility of improving AlphaFold2’s three-dimensional protein predictions by developing a novel pipeline (AlphaMod) that incorporates AlphaFold2 with MODELLER, a template-based modeling program. Additionally, our tool can drive a comprehensive quality assessment of the tertiary protein structure by incorporating and comparing a set of different quality assessment tools. The outcomes of selected tools are combined into a composite score (BORDASCORE) that exhibits a meaningful correlation with GDT_TS and facilitates the selection of optimal models in the absence of a reference structure. To validate AlphaMod's results, we conducted evaluations using two distinct datasets summing up to 72 targets, previously used to independently assess AlphaFold2's performance. The generated models underwent evaluation through two methods: i) averaging the GDT_TS scores across all produced structures for a single target sequence, and ii) a pairwise comparison of the best structures generated by AlphaFold2 and AlphaMod. The latter, within the unsupervised setups, shows a rising accuracy of approximately 34% over AlphaFold2. While, when considering the supervised setup, AlphaMod surpasses AlphaFold2 in 18% of the instances. Finally, there is an 11% correspondence in outcomes between the diverse methodologies. Consequently, AlphaMod’s best-predicted tertiary structures in several cases exhibited a significant improvement in the accuracy of the predictions with respect to the best models obtained by AlphaFold2. This pipeline paves the way for the integration of additional data and AI-based algorithms to further improve the reliability of the predictions.

Abstract Severe/critical COVID-19 is associated with immune dysregulation and plasmatic SARS-CoV-2 detection (i.e. RNAemia). We detailed the association of SARS-CoV-2 RNAemia with immune responses in COVID-19 patients at the end of the first week of disease. We enrolled patients hospitalized in acute phase of ascertained SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, and evaluated SARS-CoV-2 RNAemia, plasmatic cytokines, activated/pro-cytolytic T-cells phenotypes, SARS-CoV-2-specific cytokine-producing T-cells (IL-2, IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-4, IL-17A), simultaneous Th1-cytokines production (polyfunctionality) and amount (iMFI). The humoral responses were assessed with anti-S1/S2 IgG, anti-RBD total-Ig, IgM, IgA, IgG1 and IgG3, neutralization and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). Out of 54 patients, 27 had detectable viremia (viremic). Albeit comparable age and co-morbidities, viremic more frequently required ventilatory support, with a trend to higher death. Viremic displayed higher pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-α, IL-6), lower activated T-cells (HLA-DR+CD38+), lower functional SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cells (IFN-γ+CD4+, TNF-α+CD8+, IL-4+CD8+, IL-2+TNF-α+CD4+, and IL-2+TNF-α+CD4+ iMFI) and SARS-CoV-2-specific Abs (anti-S IgG, anti-RBD total-Ig, IgM, IgG1, IgG3; ID50, %ADCC). These data suggest a link between SARS-CoV-2 RNAemia at the end of the first stage of disease and immune dysregulation. Whether high ab initium viral burden and/or intrinsic host factors contribute to immune dysregulation in severe COVID-19 remains to be elucidated, to further inform strategies of targeted therapeutic interventions.

Abstract Discontinuation of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) and increased antibiotic use were described during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In order to measure COVID-19 impact on ASPs in a setting of high multidrug resistance organisms (MDRO) prevalence, a qualitative survey was designed. In July 2021, eighteen ID Units were asked to answer a questionnaire about their hospital characteristics, ASPs implementation status before the pandemic and impact of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on ASPs after the 1st and 2nd pandemic waves in Italy. Nine ID centres (50%) reported a reduction of ASPs and in 7 cases (38.9%) these were suspended. After the early pandemic waves, the proportion of centres that restarted their ASPs was higher among the ID centres where antimicrobial stewardship was formally identified as a priority objective (9/11, 82%, vs 2/7, 28%). SARS-CoV-2 pandemic had a severe impact in ASPs in a region highly affected by COVID-19 and antimicrobial resistance but weaknesses related to the pre-existent ASPs might have played a role.
