Introduction: Sleep disorders affect up to 70% of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and appear to have significant negative effects on their quality of life (QoL). We compared life and sleep quality between patients on automated PD (APD) and continuous ambulatory PD (CAPD). Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study in chronic PD patients followed in our Dialysis Unit in February 2022. We evaluated sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and QoL with EUROHIS-QOL-8. Results: Fifty-two patients, mostly men (65.4%, n=32), with a mean age of 52.7±14.2 years and PD vintage of 24.3±17.1 months. Our sample had similar distribution between APD and CAPD; we found no difference between groups regarding demographic data, PD-related quality parameters or prevalence of previous sleep disturbances. Mean QoL index was 69.9%±9.3% and similar between APD and CAPD patients; EUROHIS-QOL-8 negatively correlated with the scores on ESS (p=0.004) and PSQI (p=0.011). Regarding sleep quality, the mean ESS was 8.8±4.2 and PSQI was 7.6±3.6. APD patients had similar scores on ESS, but higher prevalence of severe daytime sleepiness (ESS≥18) (p=0.04) and higher scores on PSQI (p=0.002). Within the PSQI, sleep’ latency (p=0.003), duration (p=0.002) and efficiency (p=0.013) were the most affected parameters. Higher PSQI scores also correlated with worse blood pressure control; a cut-off value for PSQI of 6 was found to increase the risk of uncontrolled hypertension. Conclusion: In our series, APD patients had worse global sleep quality (PSQI) when compared to ACPD patients. This difference was mainly due to worse sleep latency, duration and efficiency. The assessment of the quality of life showed no difference between groups, however there was a clear link between quality of life and sleep quality.

Heart failure (HF) is a syndrome that conduct patients to high levels of impairment. Knowing the symptoms of the disease and being aware about the most important aspects related to a good selfmanagement is very important. The first step to improve knowledge is to know what patients really understand about HF and what are they capable of doing, in order to control the disease. Purpose To characterize the level of selfmanagement of the disease on patients admitted due to decompensated HF Methods Using the Self Care Heart Failure Index (SCHFI), 92 inpatients were evaluated in order to understand their level of awareness about selfcare in HF and what are the main strategies used when they identify symptoms of decompensation. Variables like age, gender and functional status (Barthel index (BI) and LCADL) at admission were used to made some correlations. Descriptive statistics was used to identify the most common strategies used by patients and to analyze the selfcare items of the scale. Results The mean age was 70 (±9,4) years and patients were mainly male (66,7%). They presented high levels of functional impairment with 32 points on LCADL and 73 on BI and a mean of 4 cardiovascular risk factors. Regarding section A, the three most frequent instructions performed by patients was: 1) Avoid getting sick, 2) keep doctor or nurse appointments and 3) Don´t forget to take the medicines. The most notfollowed instructions were: 1) Do some physical activity or Exercise for 30 minutes, 2) Weight themselves and 3) check ankles for swelling. Regarding section B only 7,6% of the patients immediately recognized the symptom of HF decompensation and 57,6% did not. 64,1% of the patients refers Very likely to Call the doctor or nurse for attendance. Section C refers to confidence of patients in selfmanagement, 53% of the patients refer to be not confident about any of the items of the list. The mean score of the scale was 43 (±10) points. Regarding correlations, patients who refer to perform same physical activity or exercise at least 30 minutes show a negative correlation with number of CVRF and LCADL at admission and a positive correlation with BI at admission. Conclusions Patients demonstrate high confidence on their health team providers, however they do not perform correctly the instructions given and showed difficulties in identifying symptoms of decompensation. Self management and knowledge must be improved to these patients. Other study must be devolved in order to understand the causes for this results. O objetivo da presente investigação foi realizar a primeira tradução e adaptação para o português europeu da ICS (Insomnia Catastrophizing Scale) de Jansson-Fröjmark, Harvey e Flink (2012, 2019), bem como a análise das suas propriedades psicométricas. A ICS avalia pensamentos catastróficos relacionados com sintomas de insónia na hora de dormir (ICS-N) e no funcionamento diurno (ICS-D). A ICS é composta por 17 itens avaliados numa escala de Likert de 0 a 5 pontos. No presente estudo recolheram-se dados de uma amostra comunitária de 802 participantes portugueses, com idades ≥ a 18 anos, sendo aproximadamente 80% do sexo feminino e 20% do sexo masculino. Os resultados demonstraram que a escala apresentou uma boa consistência interna tanto para a subescala ICS-N (α=0,93) como para a subescala ICS-D (α=0,95). A análise fatorial exploratória (Principal Axis Factoring) sugere a presença de um único fator para ambas as medidas. Verificou-se que as duas subescalas se correlacionam de forma elevada (r=0,79), sugerindo que medem construtos relacionados. Considerou-se que a variável sexo poderia moderar a relação entre a catastrofização e a gravidade da insónia. Neste estudo, encontrou-se correlações entre moderadas e fortes em ambos os sexos no que toca à associação quer da ICS-N, quer da ICS-D com a ISI (Insomnia Severity Index). Posteriormente, a amostra foi dividida em dois grupos, designados “insónia” (n=170) e “sem insónia” (n=632), através do ponto de corte da ISI proposto para a população portuguesa. Comparou-se os resultados médios totais entre os grupos e constatou-se que a ICS-N, comparativamente à ICS-D, apresentou uma magnitude de efeito ligeiramente mais elevada. Dentro de cada grupo (i.e., “insónia” versus “sem insónia”), nas respetivas subescalas, os valores médios foram mais elevados para o grupo “insónia”. Por último, calcularam-se curvas ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics), tendo-se extraído pontos de corte com base na sensibilidade (ICS-N=75,9%; ICS-D=65,9%) e especificidade (ICS-N=75,6%; ICS-D=77,8%) ótimos. Em suma, os resultados obtidos apresentam semelhanças com os escassos estudos realizados até ao momento com a ICS, sendo que esta última parece constituir um instrumento de avaliação fiel e válido com potencialidade para uso no nosso país. The aim of the current study was to develop the first translation and adaptation of the ICS (Insomnia Catastrophizing Scale) of Jansson-Fröjmark, Harvey and Flink (2012, 2019) into the European Portuguese, as well as to study its psychometric properties. The ICS evaluates the catastrophic thoughts related with insomnia symptoms during sleeping time (ICS-N) and during daytime functioning (ICS-D). Besides, the ICS comprises 17 items in a Likert scale ranging from 0 to 5 points. In this study, it was recruited a community-based sample of 802 Portuguese participants, aged ≥ 18 years, where approximately 80% of the sample were females and 20% males. The results showed that the scale has good internal consistency values for both the ICS-N (α=0,93) and ICS-D (α=0,95) subscales. The Principal Axis Factoring suggested the presence of a single factor in both measured scales. It was also observed a large correlation between the two subscales (r=0,79), suggesting that they measure related constructs. Additionally, it was considered that the gender variable could moderate the association between the catastrophization and insomnia severity. In this line, it was verified a moderate to large correlation coeficient among ICS-N and ICS-D and ISI (Insomnia Severity Index) for males and females. Posteriorly, the sample was divided in two groups labeled “Insomnia” (n=170) and “no Insomnia” (n=632). For that purpose, the cut-off point of 14 of the ISI - based on European Portuguese population - was used. For all the items of each one of the subscales, it was observed that “insomnia” individuals presented higher scores than “no insomnia” group. Finally, the ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics) curves were computed for the subscales, extracting the cut-off points based on optimal sensitivity (ICS-N=75,9%; ICS-D=65,9%) and specificity ICS-N=75,6%; ICS-D=77,8%) values. Overall, these findings show similarities with the few published studies with ICS. The ICS seems to be a promising psychological assessment measure to be used in clinical and research settings. Em dois dos últimos números da Educação e Matemática surgiram artigos sobre a avaliação de atividades de investigação e respectivos relatórios. Para saber que trabalhos de investigação propor e que parâmetros avalizar talvez seja bom começarmos por sentir essa experiência na pele. Esse texto pretende ser um relato breve das fases porque passei e um relatório de uma pequena investigação que me vi obrigada a fazer para pedir aos alunos um determinado trabalho de investigação e respectivo relatório.

O desenvolvimento das capacidades motoras é parte integrante dos Programas Nacionais, onde a Educação Física poderá desempenhar um papel fundamental na sua otimização. No conjunto das capacidades motoras, a força parece ser uma das que menos se trabalha no contexto das aulas. O seu desenvolvimento pode contribuir substancialmente para a saúde e bem-estar dos alunos, sendo reconhecido como uma componente importante nos programas de atividade física para jovens. Atendendo aos seus benefícios é sem dúvida um tema que merece alguma atenção. Neste sentido, este artigo objetiva refletir acerca da importância do trabalho de força nos jovens, assim como apresentar um método e uma proposta de organização didática para desenvolver a força no contexto das aulas de Educação Física, tendo sempre como referência os objetivos presentes nos Programas Nacionais de Educação Física. O método apresentado vai ao encontro do treino intervalado de alta intensidade, recorrendo nomeadamente ao protocolo desenvolvido por Izumi Tabata, que consiste na realização de 8 ciclos de 20 segundos de alta intensidade, seguidos de 10 segundos de descanso ativo, com a duração de 4 minutos. Este método é de fácil aplicabilidade na escola, já que na atualidade existem um conjunto de aplicações gratuitas para os smartphones que permitem a sua rentabilização neste contexto. Esta proposta permite centrar a nossa prática em determinados objetivos, nomeadamente trabalhar e desenvolver as aptidões cardiorrespiratórias e de força resistente simultaneamente, num curto espaço de tempo. The development of motor skills is an integral part of the National Programs, where Physical Education can play a fundamental role in its optimization. In motor skills as a whole, strength seems to be one of the least worked in the classroom context. Its development can contribute substantially to the health and well-being of the students, being recognized as an important component in the programs of physical activity for young people. Given its benefits is undoubtedly a subject that deserves some attention. In this sense, this article aims to reflect on the importance of work force in young people, as well as to present a method and a proposal of didactic organization to develop strength in the context of Physical Education classes, always having as reference the objectives present in the National Programs Of Physical Education. The method presented is in line with high intensity interval training, using the protocol developed by Izumi Tabata, which consists of 8 cycles of 20 seconds of high intensity, followed by 10 seconds of active rest, lasting 4 minutes . This method is easily applicable in school, since at present there is a set of free applications for smartphones that allow their monetization in this context. Este estudo teve por objetivo o seguinte: investigar a associação entre o estilo de vida e a atitude positiva (EñgEFD) ou negativa (EgEFD) dos alunos sobre a Educação Física (EF). Um estudo de natureza transversal foi conduzido em 243 estudantes (15.6 ±2.5 anos). A informação demográfica, a opinião sobre a EF, e a auto perceção foram avaliados através de questionários. A aptidão física foi determinada a partir da FITNESSGRAM e da EUROFIT. A percentagem de gordura foi estimada a partir das equações de Slaughter et al., (1988). Análises descritivas e o t-test de medidas independentes foram conduzidas nas análises. Nesta amostra, 74.5% dos estudantes afirmam gostar de EDF. Neste artigo pretendemos analisar a temática da lecionação das Atividades Rítmicas e Expressivas (ARE) nas aulas de Educação Física (EF). No contexto atual da EF, muitos professores não abordam esta matéria nas suas aulas por um vasto leque de motivos. Após a aplicação dos questionários, verificámos que dos 33 professores inquiridos, 17 lecionam ARE nas aulas de EF, apresentando como principais limitações a motivação dos alunos e a dificuldade em operacionalizar os conteúdos do PNEF, adaptando-os ao nível de aprendizagem dos alunos. Já quanto aos professores que não lecionam esta matéria nas suas aulas, 14 dos inquiridos apresentam como principais motivos a formação insuficiente e a falta de bases na relação música-movimento. Dos 159 alunos inquiridos, 97 referem já ter abordado ARE em aulas de EF e 62 alunos afirmam nunca terem tido esta experiência. Os que tiveram essa experiência afirmam terem sentido vergonha a dançar e os que nunca tiveram referem, na sua maioria, que não gostariam de ter. Para este último resultado, apresentam como motivos o terem pouco à vontade em dançar com os colegas e o facto de considerarem que não é uma matéria de ensino interessante. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

O jogo e as suas potencialidades metodológicas no processo de ensino-aprendizagem do Andebol implicam a resolução de problemas emergentes do jogo, cujas respostas apresentam várias soluções face às diversas possibilidades ocasionadas pela interferência contextual que nele se faz sentir. Por conseguinte, para melhor otimizar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, é necessário que os docentes ajustem constantemente a sua prática pedagógica e tenham em conta um conjunto de variáveis que podem ser manipuláveis, entre as quais o espaço, o tempo, o número de alunos, o material didático e as regras do jogo, atendendo aos diferentes níveis de proficiência existentes numa turma, objetivando minimizar a heterogeneidade entre os alunos. Desta forma, a lecionação da matéria de ensino de Andebol pode-se manifestar sobre diversas propostas de organização de situações de aprendizagem nas aulas de Educação Física, podendo até mesmo ser abordada fora do seu recinto específico com recurso a diversos meios de ensino do jogo. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion
