Background: Intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) and cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) are associated with a heavy socioeconomic burden; however, their longitudinal changes remain controversial., Methods: We conducted a longitudinal analysis on 756 participants of Shunyi Cohort who underwent both baseline and follow-up brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MR angiography in order to investigate the risk factors for ICAS and CSVD progression in community population. Incident ICAS was defined as new stenosis occurring in at least one artery or increased severity of the original artery stenosis. CSVD markers included lacunes, cerebral microbleeds (CMB), and white matter hyperintensities (WMH)., Results: After 5.58 ± 0.49 years of follow-up, 8.5% of the 756 participants (53.7 ± 8.0 years old, 65.1% women) had incident ICAS. Body mass index (BMI) (OR = 1.09, 95% CI = 1.01-1.17, p = 0.035) and diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.67, 95% CI = 1.44-4.93, p = 0.002) were independent risk factors for incident ICAS. Hypertension was an independent risk factor for incident lacunes (OR = 2.12, 95% CI = 1.20-3.77, p = 0.010) and CMB (OR = 2.32, 95% CI = 1.22-4.41, p = 0.011), while WMH progression was primarily affected by BMI (β = 0.108, SE = 0.006, p = 0.002). A higher LDL cholesterol level was found to independently protect against WMH progression (β = -0.076, SE = 0.027, p = 0.019)., Conclusions: Modifiable risk factor profiles exhibit different in patients with ICAS and CSVD progression. Controlling BMI and diabetes mellitus may help to prevent incident ICAS, and antihypertensive therapy may conduce to mitigate lacunes and CMB progression. Background:  There is limited data available regarding the prevalence of intracranial arterial stenosis (ICAS) among acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients in Brazil and Latin America., Objective:  The present study sought to investigate the frequency and predictors of ICAS among patients with AIS or transient ischemic attack (TIA) in a Brazilian center, with transcranial color-coded duplex sonography (TCCS) technique., Methods:  Consecutive AIS and TIA patients, admitted to an academic public comprehensive stroke center in Brazil from February to December 2014, evaluated by TCCS were prospectively selected. Vascular narrowings > 50% were considered as ICAS, based on ultrasound criteria previously defined in the literature., Results:  We assessed 170 consecutive patients with AIS or TIA, of whom 27 (15.9%) were excluded due to an inadequate transtemporal acoustic bone window. We confirmed ICAS in 55 patients (38.5%). The most common location was the proximal segment of the middle cerebral artery (28.2%), followed by the vertebral (15.4%), posterior cerebral (13.6%), terminal internal carotid (9.1%) and basilar (8.2%) arteries. On multivariate models adjusting for potential confounders, systolic blood pressure (OR: 1.03, 95%CI: 1.01-1.04; p  = 0.008) was independently associated with ICAS., Conclusion:  We found significant ICAS in approximately ⅓ of patients admitted with symptoms of AIS or TIA in a public tertiary academic stroke center in Brazil. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate perioperative complications and the details of postoperative ureteral stricture after ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy (URS-L) for upper urinary tract stones in Japan., Methods: Patient data on intra- and postoperative complications after ureteroscopy using URS-L were retrospectively collected from multiple centers in Japan between April 2017 and March 2020 with the cooperation of the Japanese Society of Endourology and Robotics. Data included the number of patients undergoing URS-L, number and type of intra- and postoperative complications, and detailed characteristics of postoperative ureteral stricture., Results: In total, 14 125 patients underwent URS-L over 3 years at 82 institutions. Annual URS-L numbers gradually increased from 4419 in 2017, to 4760 in 2018, and 4946 in 2019. The total complication rate was 10.5%, which was divided into intra-operative complications in 1.40% and postoperative complications in 9.18%. The annual incidences of intra- and postoperative complications were not significantly different from year to year (p = 0.314 and p = 0.112). Ureteral perforation, ureteral avulsion, and the intra-operative conversion rate were 1.35%, 0.03%, and 0.02%, respectively. Fever >38°C, septic shock, blood transfusion, and postoperative mortality were 7.44%, 0.81%, 0.07%, and 0.04%, respectively. Ureteral stricture occurred in 0.8% of cases. The median length of stricture site was 10.0 mm and the success rate of stricture treatment was 54.6%., Conclusion: Although URS-L utilization has increased in Japan, the annual complication rate has remained steady. Background: Biliary strictures are a significant cause of morbidity and graft loss in pediatric liver transplant recipients. Risk factors for the development of biliary strictures are not fully established. We aimed to evaluate the incidence of biliary strictures and treatment modalities outcomes and to identify potential risk factors for occurrence., Methods: Pediatric patients who underwent liver transplantation in the single tertiary pediatric liver transplant center in Israel were evaluated. We compared demographics, presentation, laboratory results, imaging, treatment, and outcomes between patients with and without biliary stricture. Multivariate regression analyses were used to identify risk factors for biliary strictures., Results: Among 121 pediatric liver transplant patients, 65 (53.7%) were males; the median age at the time of liver transplantation was 43 (3-215) months. Fifteen patients (12.4%) had biliary strictures following transplantation. One (7%) patient with biliary stricture was treated via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and 12 patients (80%) underwent interventions via a percutaneous transhepatic approach. Nine of the 12 patients were treated successfully, requiring one or multiple procedures, while the remaining had surgery or laser therapy. Risk factors for the development of biliary strictures were biliary leak, acute cellular rejection, and the presence of two biliary anastomoses., Conclusions: In our cohort, the presence of two biliary anastomoses and post-transplant complications including acute cellular rejection and early biliary leaks were associated with biliary strictures in pediatric liver transplantation recipients. Objective: To review the literature and report the incidence of vaginal stenosis (VS) after vaginoplasty and compare the incidence rates by surgical technique and follow-up duration., Methods: We performed a systematic literature review according to PRISMA guidelines. Original research on primary vaginoplasty was included. Exclusion criteria included non-English studies, mixed cohorts without subgroup analysis, revision vaginoplasty, and papers without stenosis rates. The search was ran in Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane on September 9, 2022. Stenosis rates were compared with descriptive statistics using SPSS., Results: Fifty-nine studies with a cumulative 7338 subjects were included. The overall incidence of VS was 5.83% (range 0%-34.2%). Combining VS with introital stenosis (IS) and contracture results in a cumulative incidence of 9.68%. The rate of VS in the penile inversion vaginoplasty subgroup (PIV) was 5.70%, compared to 0.20% in primary intestinal vaginoplasty. The rate of IS in the PIV group was 3.13% and 4.7% in the intestinal vaginoplasty subgroup., Conclusion: The overall rate of VS was 5.83%, which is lower than previously documented. This may be related to the inclusion of more recent studies and analysis limited to primary vaginoplasty. The similar rate of IS in PIV and intestinal vaginoplasty subgroups may be secondary to multiple suture lines and the need for dilation through this anastomosis. Radical resection of rectal cancer is a safe and effective treatment, but there remain several complications related to anastomosis. We aimed to assess the risk factors and incidence of rectal anastomotic stenosis (AS) after rectal cancer resection. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis after searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Medline databases from inception until May 2023. Data are reported as the combined odds ratio (OR) for categorical variables and the weighted mean difference (WMD) for continuous variables. Six hundred and fifty-nine studies were retrieved, nine (3031 patients) of which were included in the meta-analysis. Young age (WMD = -3.09, P = 0.0002), male sex (OR = 1.53, P = 0.0002), smoking (OR = 1.54, P = 0.009), radiotherapy (OR = 2.34, P = 0.0002), protective stoma (OR = 2.88, P = 0.007), intersphincteric resection surgery (OR = 6.28, P = 0.05), anastomotic fistula (OR = 3.72, P = 0.003), and anastomotic distance (WMD = -3.11, P = 0.0006) were identified as factors that increased the risk of AS, while staple (OR = 0.39, P < 0.001) was a protective factor. The incidence of AS after rectal cancer resection was approximately 17% (95% CI: 13%-21%). We identified eight risk factors and one protective factor associated with AS after rectal cancer resection. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of radiological left common iliac vein (LCIV) compression among the asymptomatic population and identify possible predictors., Methods: Contrast-enhanced abdominal and/or pelvic computed tomography scans of eligible asymptomatic patients were examined. The LCIV diameter was measured from different horizontal planes in the venous phase using PACSView. Degree of LCIV compression (D c ) was calculated by a predefined formula and graded as insignificant (D c  < 25%), mild (≥25% D c  < 50%), moderate (≥50% D c  <75%), and severe (D c ≥ 75%). Venous stenosis was defined as a D c of ≥50%. Comparison of variables, including gender, age, body mass index (BMI), and comorbidities was performed between the different grades of LCIV compression., Results: Between November 2019 and July 2022, 1698 eligible asymptomatic patients (53.1% females; mean age, 39.3 ± 11.8 years; mean BMI, 22.9 ± 3.6 kg/m 2 ) were reviewed. The mean D c was 46.2% (range, 0.29%-90.4%). Insignificant, mild, moderate, and severe compression were distributed in 14.5%, 38.0%, 42.2%, and 5.2% of the cohort population, respectively. Prevalence of venous stenosis was higher in females than males (58.1% vs 42.2%; χ 2  = 15.52; P < .001). Females aged ≥25 and <35 years accounted for the highest proportion of venous stenosis than other age groups and was a significant predictor (odds ratio [OR], 3.18; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.74-7.79; P < .001). In the Asian BMI classification group, being underweight is associated with venous stenosis (OR, 4.69; 95% CI, 2.70-8.14; P < .001) and obesity may be a protective factor (OR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.23-0.64; P < .001). There is an inverse relationship between D c and age and BMI., Conclusions: The prevalence of radiological LCIV compression on computed tomography scans was high, but all patients were asymptomatic. Background: Data on prevalence of intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) in Western populations is sparse. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors for ICAS in a mainly Caucasian general population., Methods: We assessed the prevalence of ICAS in 1847 men and women aged 40 to 84 years who participated in a cross-sectional population-based study, using 3-dimensional time-of-flight 3 Tesla magnetic resonance angiography. ICAS was defined as a focal luminal flow diameter reduction of ≥50 %. The association between cardiovascular risk factor levels and ICAS was assessed by multivariable regression analysis., Results: The overall prevalence of ICAS was 6.0 % (95 % confidence interval (CI) 5.0-7.2), 4.3 % (95 % CI 3.1-5.7) in women and 8.0 % (95 % CI 6.3-10.0) in men. The prevalence increased by age from 0.8 % in 40-54 years age group to 15.2 % in the 75-84 years age group. The majority of stenoses was located to the internal carotid artery (52.2 %), followed by the posterior circulation (33.1 %), the middle cerebral artery (10.8 %) and the anterior cerebral artery (3.8 %). Background: Small circular staplers possess the advantage of being relatively easy to use when compared to larger circular staplers. However, there is some contention as to whether the use of small circular staples in colorectal surgery increases the incidence of anastomotic strictures. This study aimed to determine whether the frequency of anastomosis site stricture formation differs depending on stapler size when performing anastomosis in colorectal surgery., Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for colon or rectal disease between June 1, 2009, and December 31, 2021, and who had circular staplers used for the formation of intestinal anastomoses post colectomy were included in our study. Propensity score matching with a 1:1 ratio using logistic regression was performed. The primary outcome was the anastomotic stricture rate, and the secondary outcome was total anastomotic complications., Results: A total of 875 patients who were operated on by surgeons using 28/29-mm and 25-mm circular staplers were included. After propensity score matching, 106 patients were assigned to each group. Anastomotic strictures occurred in two cases (1.9%) from the 25-mm group and in four cases (3.8%) from the 28/29-mm group. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups (p = 0.683). Background: The symptoms of stricturing diverticulitis can overlap with those of colorectal cancer. Additionally, the stricture itself may mask a "hidden" colorectal cancer. We aimed to describe the demographics, operative details and outcomes, including occult colorectal cancer, in a cohort of consecutive resections for presumed diverticular strictures., Methods: In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, all patients undergoing resection for a presumed diverticular stricture between January 2010 and December 2015 were included. Preoperative imaging and colonoscopies were individually reviewed. Only patients with radiographically, endoscopically and/or intraoperatively benign-appearing strictures were included., Results: One hundred fifty patients (72.7% female, mean age = 70.4 ± 11.8 years, 62.7% elective) were included. Only 34 (22.7%) had a complete preoperative colonoscopy. In 95 (63.6% of cohort) patients, the stricture was non-traversable colonoscopically. Overall, 47 (31.3%) patients did not have complete preoperative imaging or a colonoscopy. In total, 53.3% were open procedures and 62% had non-diverted primary anastomosis. Eleven (14.7%) underwent resection of adjacent organs (5 appendixes/5 right colons/7 fallopian tubes ± ovaries/3 small bowel resections/2 partial cystectomies/1 spleen). The median length of stay was 7 (5, 12.5) days. Only 2 cancers (1.3% of patients) involving the stricture (1 invasive moderately differentiated sigmoid adenocarcinoma/1 lymphoma) were found. Three additional cancers were found in organs involved in the inflammatory process (20% of concomitantly resected organs, 1 ovarian carcinoma/1 leukemia in a lymph node/1 appendiceal tumor)., Conclusion: Despite approximately one-third of the cohort not having undergone successful preoperative colonoscopy or imaging, the rate of neoplasia involving diverticular strictures was only 1.3%. Background: It is unknown whether plasma low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol level (LDL-C) can predict the occurrence of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS), especially asymptomatic (A)ICAS. This study investigated whether LDL-C level is independently associated with AICAS., Methods: The Asymptomatic Polyvascular Abnormalities Community study is an ongoing community-based, prospective, long-term follow-up observational study with 3387 participants. AICAS was diagnosed by transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. The participants were divided into 3 groups based on LDL-C level. Cox regression was used to evaluate the association between LDL-C level and incidence of AICAS., Results: During 2 years of follow-up, 9.98% of participants were diagnosed with AICAS. The incidence of AICAS (person-years with 95% CI) was 4.99% (4.48%-5.50%). AICAS incidence did not increase with increasing LDL-C level. Compared with the <2.6 mmol/l subgroup, the incidence of asymptomatic ICAS was not significantly higher in the 2.6 to 3.4 and >3.4 mmol/l subgroups after adjusting for confounding factors (hazard ratio=0.95, 95% CI: 0.86-1.03 and hazard ratio=0.96, 95% CI: 0.84-1.10, respectively)., Conclusions: LDL-C is not an independent predictor of AICAS incidence in the Chinese population., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2023 The Author(s). Purpose: Vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis after radical prostatectomy is a complication with significant adverse quality-of-life implications. Herein, we identify groups at risk for vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis and further characterize the natural history and treatment patterns., Materials and Methods: Years 1987-2013 of a prospectively maintained radical prostatectomy registry were queried for patients with the diagnosis of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis, defined as symptomatic and inability to pass a 17F cystoscope. Patients with follow-up less than 1 year, preoperative anterior urethral stricture, transurethral resection of prostate, prior pelvic radiotherapy, and metastatic disease were excluded. Logistic regression was performed to identify predictors of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis. Functional outcomes were characterized., Results: Out of 17,904 men, 851 (4.8%) developed vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis at a median of 3.4 months. Multivariable logistic regression identified associations with vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis including adjuvant radiation, BMI, prostate volume, urine leak, blood transfusion, and nonnerve-sparing techniques. Robotic approach (OR 0.39, P < .01) and complete nerve sparing (OR 0.63, P < .01) were associated with reduced vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis formation. Vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis was independently associated with 1 or more incontinence pads/d at 1 year (OR 1.76, P < .001). Of the patients treated for vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis, 82% underwent endoscopic dilation. The 1- and 5-year vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis retreatment rates were 34% and 42%, respectively., Conclusions: Patient-related factors, surgical technique, and perioperative morbidity influence the risk of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis after radical prostatectomy. Ultimately, vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis is independently associated with increased risk of urinary incontinence. Endoscopic management is temporizing for most men, with a high rate of retreatment by 5 years.

Background: Coexistence of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) and unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) is increasingly encountered in clinical practice. This study aims to determine the prevalence of ICAS in patients with UIAs and procedural ischemic risk associated with ICAS when treating UIAs., Methods: Based on the CAIASA study (Coexistence of Atherosclerotic Intracranial Arterial Stenosis With Intracranial Aneurysms), we prospectively included patients undergoing treatment procedures for UIAs from October 2015 to December 2020 at Beijing Tiantan Hospital, China. We used computed tomography angiography or digital subtraction angiography to diagnose ICAS (stenosis≥50%). Multivariable logistic regression and propensity-score matching were performed to evaluate the risk of procedure-related ischemic stroke and unfavorable outcome associated with ICAS. The ICAS score was used to explore the association between different burden of ICAS and procedure-related ischemic risk., Results: Among 3949 patients who underwent endovascular or open surgical procedures for UIAs, 245 (6.2%) had ICAS. After exclusion, 15.7% (32/204) of patients with ICAS experienced procedure-related ischemic stroke compared with 5.0% (141/2825) of patients without ICAS. From the unmatched and matched cohort, ICAS was significantly associated with increased risk of procedure-related ischemic stroke (unmatched: adjusted odds ratio=3.11 [1.89-5.11]; and matched: adjusted odds ratio=2.99 [1.38-6.48]). This association became more evident among patients not receiving antiplatelet therapy ( P interaction =0.022). For patients undergoing different treatment modalities, similar increased risks were observed (clipping: adjusted odds ratio=3.43 [1.73-6.79]; and coiling: adjusted odds ratio=3.59 [1.94-6.65]). Higher ICAS score was correlated with higher procedural ischemic risk ( P trend <0.001)., Conclusions: The occurrence of ICAS is not infrequent in patients with UIAs. ICAS confers an ~2-fold increased procedural ischemic risk, irrespective of clipping or coiling. Background: Anastomotic strictures represent a major source of morbidity in colorectal surgery with an incidence reported up to 30%. Despite this, the mechanism by which strictures develop remains unclear. This study aims to determine the incidence of colorectal anastomotic strictures and associated risk factors among a series of diverted patients., Materials and Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 142 patients over a 7-year period at a single institution after colorectal resection with anastomosis and diverting ileostomy creation re-examined with postoperative endoscopy. One patient was removed due to anastomotic tumor recurrence. Patient and technical factors were examined for significance using chi-square analysis. Logistic regression was used to perform multivariate analysis to estimate odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI)., Results: Among 141 patients, 14.1% (20 patients) developed strictures detected on endoscopy. Strictures were observed in a greater percentage of women than men (21.2% vs 8%, P = .025). 30.6% of patients who underwent resections for diverticulitis developed strictures while those with neoplastic lesions and other indications had stricture rates of 6.8% and 17.6%, respectively ( P = .002). Anastomoses performed during a colostomy reversal were associated with a higher stricture rate (OR 4.23, 95% CI 1.37-13.40, P = .012). Anastomoses performed with a 28/29 mm EEA circular stapler demonstrated a significantly higher stricture rate versus a 31/33 mm stapler (OR 7.21, 95% CI 1.23-155.58, P = .045)., Discussion: Our data reveal that female sex, history of diverticulitis, anastomoses performed in the setting of colostomy reversal, and smaller stapler size are associated with a higher rate of anastomotic stricture.

Introduction: To evaluate the prevalence, predictors, management, and trends for ureteroenteric strictures (UES) after robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC)., Methods: Retrospective review of our RARC database was performed (2005-2022). UES was described in terms of timing, laterality, and management. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to depict time to UES. Local regression was used to assess trend of UES over time and multivariable regression to identify variables associated with UES., Results: UES occurred in 109 patients (15%). UES occurred in 13%, 17%, and 19% at 1, 3, and 5 years after RARC, respectively. Incidence of UES decreased in 2017, coinciding with stentless uretero-enteric anastomosis. UES occurred on the right in 33%, on the left in 46%, and bilaterally in 21%. All patients were initially managed by nephrostomy/stent. Surgical revision was required in 45% of patients, of which 13% developed recurrent UES after revision. On MVA, UES formation was associated with ureteral stents (OR 2.27, 95%CI 1.01-5.10, P = .05) and receipt of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (OR 2.01, 95%CI 1.24-3.25, P = .005)., Conclusion: UES occurred in 15% of patients after RARC, with 45% of patients requiring surgical reimplantation. Importance: Adverse pregnancy outcomes are recognized risk enhancers for cardiovascular disease, but the prevalence of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis after these conditions is unknown., Objective: To assess associations between history of adverse pregnancy outcomes and coronary artery disease assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography screening., Design, Setting, and Participants: Cross-sectional study of a population-based cohort of women in Sweden (n = 10 528) with 1 or more deliveries in 1973 or later, ascertained via the Swedish National Medical Birth Register, who subsequently participated in the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study at age 50 to 65 (median, 57.3) years in 2013-2018. Delivery data were prospectively collected., Exposures: Adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, preterm delivery, small-for-gestational-age infant, and gestational diabetes. The reference category included women with no history of these exposures., Main Outcomes and Measures: Coronary computed tomography angiography indexes, including any coronary atherosclerosis, significant stenosis, noncalcified plaque, segment involvement score of 4 or greater, and coronary artery calcium score greater than 100., Results: A median 29.6 (IQR, 25.0-34.9) years after first registered delivery, 18.9% of women had a history of adverse pregnancy outcomes, with specific pregnancy histories ranging from 1.4% (gestational diabetes) to 9.5% (preterm delivery). The prevalence of any coronary atherosclerosis in women with a history of any adverse pregnancy outcome was 32.1% (95% CI, 30.0%-34.2%), which was significantly higher (prevalence difference, 3.8% [95% CI, 1.6%-6.1%]; prevalence ratio, 1.14 [95% CI, 1.06-1.22]) compared with reference women. History of gestational hypertension and preeclampsia were both significantly associated with higher and similar prevalence of all outcome indexes. For preeclampsia, the highest prevalence difference was observed for any coronary atherosclerosis (prevalence difference, 8.0% [95% CI, 3.7%-12.3%]; prevalence ratio, 1.28 [95% CI, 1.14-1.45]), and the highest prevalence ratio was observed for significant stenosis (prevalence difference, 3.1% [95% CI, 1.1%-5.1%]; prevalence ratio, 2.46 [95% CI, 1.65-3.67]). In adjusted models, odds ratios for preeclampsia ranged from 1.31 (95% CI, 1.07-1.61) for any coronary atherosclerosis to 2.21 (95% CI, 1.42-3.44) for significant stenosis. Similar associations were observed for history of preeclampsia or gestational hypertension among women with low predicted cardiovascular risk., Conclusions and Relevance: Among Swedish women undergoing coronary computed tomography angiography screening, there was a statistically significant association between history of adverse pregnancy outcomes and image-identified coronary artery disease, including among women estimated to be at low cardiovascular disease risk. Further research is needed to understand the clinical importance of these associations.

Background: The hepatic artery is the only blood source nourishing the biliary duct and associated with biliary complication after liver transplantation (LT). Gastroduodenal artery (GDA) disconnection increased proper hepatic artery flow. Whether this procedure attenuates biliary non-anastomotic stricture (NAS) is not clear., Methods: A total of 241 patients with LT were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into the GDA disconnection (GDA-) and GDA preservation (GDA+) groups. Propensity score matching (PSM) was administrated to reduce bias. Logistic regression was conducted to analyze risk factors for biliary NAS before and after PSM. Postoperative complications were compared. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank tests were performed to compare overall survival., Results: In all, 99 patients (41.1%) underwent GDA disconnection, and 49 (20.3%) developed NAS. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that GDA preservation (OR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.11-4.53; P = 0.025) and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score > 15 (OR = 2.14, 95% CI: 1.12-4.11; P = 0.022) were risk factors for biliary NAS. PSM provided 66 pairs using 1:2 matching method, including 66 GDA disconnection and 99 GDA preservation patients. Multivariate logistic regression after PSM also showed that GDA preservation (OR = 3.15, 95% CI: 1.26-7.89; P = 0.014) and MELD score > 15 (OR = 2.41, 95% CI: 1.08-5.36; P = 0.031) were risk factors for NAS. When comparing complications between the two groups, GDA preservation was associated with a higher incidence of biliary NAS before and after PSM (P = 0.031 and 0.017, respectively). In contrast, other complications including early allograft dysfunction (P = 0.620), small-for-size graft syndrome (P = 0.441), abdominal hemorrhage (P = 1.000), major complications (Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ 3, P = 0.318), and overall survival (P = 0.088) were not significantly different between the two groups., Conclusions: GDA disconnection during LT ameliorates biliary NAS incidence and may be recommended for application in clinical practice., (Copyright © 2022. Introduction: The optimal choice of anastomotic techniques for cervical esophagogastric anastomosis in esophagectomy remains unclear., Methods: An electronic literature search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science (data up to April 2022) was conducted and screened to compare hand sewn (HS), circular stapling (CS), side-to-side linear stapling (LS), and triangulating stapling (TS) for cervical esophagogastric anastomosis. Anastomotic leak, pulmonary complications, anastomotic stricture, and reflux esophagitis of the 4 anastomotic techniques were evaluated using a Bayesian network meta-analysis by R., Result: Twenty-nine studies were ultimately included, with a total of 5,020 patients from 9 randomized controlled trials, 7 prospect cohort studies, and 13 retrospective case-control studies in the meta-analysis. The present study demonstrates that the incidence of anastomotic leakage is lower in TS than HS and CS (TS vs. HS: odds ratio (OR) = 0.32, 95% CI: 0.1 to 0.9; TS vs. CS: OR = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.13 to 1.0), and the incidence of anastomotic stricture is lower in TS than in HS and CS (TS vs. HS: OR = 0.32, 95% CI: 0.11 to 0.86; TS vs. CS: OR = 0.23, 95% CI: 0.08 to 0.58). TS ranks best in terms of anastomotic leakage, pulmonary complication, anastomotic stricture, and reflux esophagitis., Conclusion: TS for cervical esophagogastric anastomosis of esophagectomy had a lower incidence of anastomotic leakage and stricture. Objective: To assess the incidence of genital pain in patients with urethral stricture and examine the impact of urethroplasty. Genital pain is a common and challenging urological condition and potentially associated with urethral stricture., Methods: From 2011-2019, patients were offered enrollment in a prospective single-center study assessing patient-reported genital pain pre- and 6-months posturethroplasty. Genital pain was assessed with the question, "Do you experience genital (scrotum or penis) pain?" answered on a five-point scale ["Never" (1), "Occasionally" (2), "Sometimes" (3), "Most of the Time" (4) or "All of the Time" (5)]. Responses of 3, 4, or 5 were considered clinically significant. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare pre- and postoperative states and logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between genital pain and clinical variables., Results: Of the 387 patients completing enrollment, 36.4% (141/387) reported genital pain preoperatively. Patients with panurethral stricture reported higher rates (57.1%) of pain (Odds Ratio 2.93, 95%CI 1.32-6.50; P = .008). Posturethroplasty, pain scores improved with an incidence of 14.2% (P < .0001). In patients reporting preoperative pain, 88.7% (125/141) experienced improvement, 8.5% were unchanged and 2.8% reported worsening pain. On logistic regression, patients with penile strictures (O.R. 0.24, 95%CI 0.06-0.91; P = .04), hypospadias (O.R. 0.14, 95%CI 0.02-0.88; P = .04), and staged reconstruction (O.R. 0.22, 95%CI 0.05-0.90; P = .04) were less likely to report improvement., Conclusion: Genital pain is common in patients with urethral stricture and improves in the majority of patients undergoing urethroplasty but less so in patients with penile strictures, hypospadias and staged reconstruction., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Inc. Purpose: As the prevalence of urolithiasis increases and ureteroscopy is used more frequently, the risks of uncommon complications such as ureteral stricture may become more notable. Our objective is to assess the rate and associated risk factors of ureteral stricture formation in patients undergoing ureteroscopy., Materials and Methods: Utilizing the IBM MarketScan research database, we evaluated data from 2008 to 2019 and compared ureteral stricture rates and their management following ureteroscopy to subjects who had shock wave lithotripsy. Shock wave lithotripsy was used as a comparison group to represent the rate of stricture from stone disease alone. A third group of those having both shock wave lithotripsy and ureteroscopy was included. Patients and secondary procedures were identified using Current Procedural Terminology, and International Classification of Diseases-9 and -10 codes., Results: A total of 329,776 patients received ureteroscopy, shock wave lithotripsy, or shock wave lithotripsy+ureteroscopy between 2008 and 2019. Stricture developed in 2.9% of patients after ureteroscopy, 1.5% after shock wave lithotripsy, and 2.6% after shock wave lithotripsy+ureteroscopy. In the multivariable model, rates of stricture were 1.7-fold higher after ureteroscopy vs shock wave lithotripsy (OR:1.71, 95% CI 1.62-1.81). Preoperative hydronephrosis, age, prior stones/intervention, and concurrent kidney and ureteral stones were associated with increased risk of stricture. Of those with strictures incurred after ureteroscopy, 35% required drainage, 21% had endoscopic intervention, 4.8% required reconstructive surgery, and 1.7% underwent nephrectomy., Conclusions: Ureteral stricture rate after ureteroscopy of nearly 3% was higher than expected and approximately twice the rate attributable to stone disease alone. Factors associated with the stone as well as instrumentation were found to be risk factors. The morbidity of stricture disease following ureteroscopy was significant.

Background: In-stent stenosis (ISS) is a delayed complication that can occur after pipeline embolization device use when treating intracranial aneurysms (IAs)., Objective: To assess the incidence, predictors, and outcomes of ISS., Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter, observational study. All patient data were collected from a PLUS registry study. We collected data from patients with IA who completed digital subtraction angiography at follow-up and divided patients into "non-ISS," "mild ISS," or "severe ISS" groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine predictors of ISS., Results: A total of 1171 consecutive patients with 1322 IAs participated in this study. Angiographic follow-up was available for 662 patients with 728 IAs, and the mean follow-up time was 9 months. ISS was detected in 73 cases (10.03%), including 61 mild ISS cases and 12 severe ISS cases. Univariate and multivariable analysis demonstrated that current smoking history (mild ISS: OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.122-4.118, P = .021; severe ISS: OR 5.858, 95% CI 1.186-28.93, P = .030) and cerebral atherosclerosis (mild ISS: OR 5.694, 95% CI 3.193-10.15, P = .001; severe ISS: OR 6.103, 95% CI 1.384-26.91, P = .017) were independent predictors of ISS. Compared with the other groups, the severe ISS group had higher rate of ischemic stroke (33.3%)., Conclusion: ISS occurs in approximately 10.03% of cases at a mean follow-up of 9 months. Statistically, current smoking history and cerebral atherosclerosis are the main predictors of ISS. Purpose: Chronic obstructive sialadenitis (COS) is a recurring inflammation of the salivary gland. To date, there are no known predisposing factors for COS. Given the advances seen in radiology and sialendoscopy, we must update our knowledge of COS, analyzing factors that can favor its development., Methods: We prospectively analyzed 333 patients who underwent sialendoscopy between 2012 and 2021. Epidemiologic, radiologic, and sialendoscopy-related factors were correlated. Suspected diagnosis was established based on the clinical and radiologic data. The final diagnosis was determined on the basis of sialendoscopic findings., Results: The most common etiology of COS was stricture (40.8%). Lack of papilla distensibility (LPD) was also described as an etiology. COS was related to patient gender and age. Submandibular gland involvement was significantly more associated with lithiasis and LPD, while COS of the parotid gland was most frequently caused by stricture. Radioiodine sialadenitis and Sjögren's syndrome were significantly associated with stricture. MR sialography (MR-Si) showed the best overall sensitivity and specificity., Conclusion: In our series, stricture was the most common cause of COS. We describe LPD as a frequent cause of COS in this series; ours is the first study to report this finding. There was a significant association between the salivary gland involved, patient sex and age, and the cause of COS. MR-Si showed the greatest diagnostic yield., (© 2022. We assessed the incidence and risks factors of bladder neck and urethral stenosis after Thulium laser enucleation of the prostate. Patients who underwent surgery at two centres were retrospectively reviewed (December 2014-June 2020). Exclusion criteria: previous urethral/prostatic surgery, pelvic irradiation, prostate cancer, neurogenic bladder, history of bladder neck and urethral stenosis, concomitant transurethral surgery, active urinary tract infection. Significant variables at univariate analysis (p < 0.05) were included in a multivariate logistic regression analysis to establish their association with bladder neck/urethral stenosis. One thousand and three patients were included. Median age was 69.0 (63.0-75.0) years. Median prostate volume was 65.0 (46.3-82.0) ml. Median follow-up was 31 (25-75) months. Thirty patients (2.99%) developed bladder neck stenosis [median time after surgery: 15 (11-17.75) months], 50 patients (4.98%) urethral stenosis [median time after surgery: 9 (7-11) months]. Men with bladder neck and urethral stenosis had significantly smaller prostate volume (median volume 43.5 ml vs. 66.0 ml, p = 0.008, and 52.0 ml vs. 66.0 ml, p = 0.009, respectively). At multivariable analysis, short surgical time predicted for bladder neck stenosis (OR 0.973; 95% CI 0.957-0.994, p = 0.002), and re-catheterization (OR 3.956; 95% CI 1.867-8.382, p < 0.001) for urethral stenosis, whereas prostate volume was significantly associated with a lower incidence of US (OR 0.984, 95% CI 0.972-0.998, p = 0.03)., (© 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Background: It is unknown whether the novel POT-side-POT technique is more useful than the commonly preferred kissing balloon inflation in patients with non-complex coro- nary bifurcation lesions treated with a single-stent strategy. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of POT-side-POT and kissing balloon inflation techniques in one- stent strategy for non-complex coronary bifurcation lesions., Methods: In this study, 283 patients were retrospectively analyzed (POT-side-POT group, n = 149; KBI group, n = 134). Primary endpoints of the study were defined as follows: in- hospital and 30-day mortality, contrast-induced acute kidney injury, stent thrombosis, side branch dissection, and need for side-branch stenting. Characteristics of patients at baseline were balanced by using propensity score inverse probability weighting., Results: Procedure time (minute, 30.6 ± 8.5 vs. 34.3 ± 11.6; P = .003) and contrast volume (milliliter, 153.7 ± 42.4 vs. 171.1 ± 58.2; P = .004) were significantly lower in POT-side-POT group. Besides, side branch residual stenosis and number of patients with >50% side branch residual stenosis remained significantly higher in POT-side-POT group both in general and true bifurcation subgroup analysis (20.3 ± 19.8% vs. 16.5 ± 16.4%, P=.022; 11.9% vs. 5.7%, P = .013 and 24.1 ± 23.2% vs. 18.8 ± 18.7%, P = .033; 17.6% vs. 6.6%, P = .005; respectively). Combined clinical adverse outcomes were similar between groups. Side branch dissection (10.2% vs. 20.1%, P = .001) and need for side branch stenting (12.6% vs. 19%, P=.040) reached statistically significance in kissing balloon inflation group after adjustment., Conclusion: POT-side-POT may be a simple and safe technique with a shorter procedure time and lower incidence of adverse clinical events in non-complex coronary bifurcationlesions treated with single-stent strategy.

Objective: This study was performed to investigate the efficacy of the modified Collard (MC) technique for reducing anastomotic stricture after esophagectomy compared with the circular stapled (CS) technique., Summary Background Data: The currently available techniques of anastomosis after esophagectomy are associated with a significant risk of anasto-motic complications. However, the optimal anastomotic technique after esophagectomy has not yet been established., Methods: We randomly allocated patients to either the CS group or the MC group. The primary endpoint was the incidence of anastomotic stricture. The secondary endpoints included the incidence of postoperative complications (including anastomotic leakage) and quality of life (QoL). All anastomoses were performed after indocyanine green evaluation for objective homogeni-zation of blood flow to the gastric conduit between the 2 techniques., Results: Among 100 randomized patients (CS group, n = 50; MC group, n = 50), anastomotic strictures were observed in 18 (42%) patients in the CS group and in no patients in the MC group. There were no significant between-group differences in anastomotic leakage (CS group, 7% vs MC group, 8%; P = 0.94). Quality of life domains of dysphagia and choking when swallowing at 3 months after surgery were significantly better in the MC group than in the CS group., Conclusions: The MC technique reduces the incidence of anastomotic stricture and improves postoperative quality of life. In order to explore the risk factors of intracranial and intracranial arterial stenosis, the distribution of young ischemic stroke sufferers with intracranial and intracranial arterial stenosis and the related are analyzed. In this study, a total of 213 young sufferers with ischemic stroke (IS) admitted to our hospital from February 2019 to September 2021 are selected. According to the CT diagnosis of intracranial artery stenosis (AS), 213 patients are divided into two groups, with 86 in the AS Group and 127 in the non-AS Group. To analyze the distribution of intracranial and intracranial AS in young patients with ischemic stroke, 86 patients with AS are examined by carotid B-mode ultrasound. Furthermore, a univariate analysis is performed on the relevant indicators of the sufferers in the cancer (CA) set and the two sets without CA, and then, the indicators with statistically extensive disparity were selected for multivariate logistic regression analysis of the risk factors for CA symptoms. The results show 50% of the sufferers with moderate or severe ischemic CA in young adults and 63.95% of the sufferers with intracranial artery stenosis. Background: Gastrojejunostomy (GJ) stricture is one of the most commonly recognized complications following laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). The risks involving the formation of early GJ stomal stenosis are largely unknown. The aims of this study are to evaluate the rate and risk factors associated with GJ stricture in patients requiring esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) within 30 days after LRYGB., Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent EGD for GJ stricture following LRYGB. Data were retrieved from MBSAQIP database from 2015 to 2018. Descriptive, bivariate, and logistic regression analyses were performed. Those who had reoperation, readmission, and intervention for other indications rather than GJ stricture were excluded from the risk factor analysis., Results: 760,076 patients underwent bariatric surgery. Of these, 184,660 (24.3%) underwent LRYGB and 875 had GJ stricture within 30 days postoperatively. The overall incidence of early GJ stricture after LRYGB was 4.7 per 1000 person-years. The incidence decreased from 6.2 to 3.4 per 1000 person-years during the 4-year period. 85% of patients with GJ stricture required therapeutic intervention. Median (IQR) day to the first endoscopic intervention was 25 (21-28) days. The overall 30-day readmission rate was 40%. 30-day reoperation rate due to GJ stricture was 5.6%. No 30-day mortality occurred. Factors independently associated with an increased risk for early GJ stricture include concurrent hiatal hernia repair (Adjusted Odds Ratio-AOR 1.8, 95% CI 1.5-2.2), revision case (AOR 1.4, 95% CI 1.1-1.6), African American (AOR 1.4, 95% CI 1.2-1.7), gastroesophageal reflux disease-GERD (AOR 1.4, 95% CI 1.2-1.5), drain placement (AOR 1.3, 95% CI1.1-1.4), and routine postoperative swallow study (AOR 1.3, 95% CI 1.1-1.50)., Conclusion: The incidence of early GJ stricture following LRYGB decreased at MBSAQIP-accredited centers over the review period. Objective: To compare the prevalence of middle ear malformations between patients with and without congenital external auditory canal stenosis (CEACS) and to investigate the outcomes of tympanoplasty and/or canalplasty in terms of tympanic membrane (TM) size and external auditory canal (EAC) stenosis in patients with middle ear malformation., Methods: Twenty-five patients who underwent primary tympanoplasty and/or canalplasty for middle ear malformation at a tertiary academic medical center were retrospectively reviewed. CEACS was defined as an EAC diameter of 4 mm or less. Intraoperative findings, including irregularity of the ossicles, facial nerve, or chorda tympani; size of the TM and EAC on computed tomography; and pre- and postoperative hearing level, were collected., Results: We included 7 and 18 patients with and without CEACS, respectively. The malleus handle defect, anterior deviation of the chorda tympani, and small TM (≤7 mm) (p-values 0.015, <0.001, and 0.003, respectively; Fisher's exact test) had significantly higher prevalence in patients with CEACS than in those without. The mean postoperative air-bone gap (ABG) in patients with CEACS was not significantly different from that in patients with normal-sized EAC (20.6 dB and 19.5 dB, respectively; p-value, 0.121; Mann-Whitney U test). No difference was observed in mean postoperative ABG between patients with small TM and those with normal-sized TM (19.2 dB and 20.0 dB, respectively; p-value, 0.469; Mann-Whitney U test)., Conclusion: Patients with CEACS were more likely to have malleus handle defect, anterior deviation of the chorda tympani, and small TM than those without CEACS. Large artery intracranial stenosis (ICS) is a common finding in stroke patients, but is much less prevalent in Western countries than in Asia and in young adults than in the elderly. We investigated the prevalence and causes of ICS among French young adults with ischaemic stroke. Clinical and radiological data of patients aged 18-54 years treated consecutively for acute ischaemic stroke in the anterior circulation at a tertiary stroke centre were analysed retrospectively. Patients with>50% ICS were identified. ICS was evaluated using TOF-MRA, vessel wall-MRI, digital subtraction angiography and CT-angiography. A total of 316 patients were included. ICS was diagnosed in 29 patients, resulting in a prevalence of 9.2% (95% CI, 6.2 to 13.3). The leading cause of ICS was atherosclerosis (n=13), ahead of moyamoya disease (n=4), dissection (n=2), vasculitis (n=2), and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (n=1). The cause of ICAS could not be determined in 7 patients. ICS was found in nearly one in 10 ischaemic strokes among French young adults. Atherosclerosis was the leading cause of ICS. Introduction and Hypothesis: Radiotherapy (RT) for cervical (CC) and endometrial cancer (EC) is known to lead to vaginal stenosis (VS), but the comparison between vaginal anatomical measurements and the risk of sexual dysfunction presents a wide variety of results among the literature. Thus, we sought to assess the prevalence of VS, vaginal measurements, sexual dysfunction and QOL in women with CC and EC submitted to pelvic RT with or without previous surgery., Methods: Cross-sectional study that included 61 women with CC and 69 with EC. VS was classified by the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Effects version 5.0 (CTCAE v5.0), sexual function by the validated Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and QOL by the validated World Health Organization questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). Acrylic cylinders were used for vaginal measurements. Uni-/multivariate analyses to address factors associated with VC in both groups were performed., Results: The prevalence of VS was 79% and 67% within patients with CC and EC, respectively. Vagina length was decreased in both groups without statistical difference (7.2 ± 1.7 vs. 6.6 ± 1.8;p = 0.072). Vaginal diameter was significantly higher (p = 0.047) in women with EC (25.4 ± 6.3) than in those with CC (23.1 ± 5.7). Sexual dysfunction was highly prevalent for both CC and EC (88% vs. 91%; p = 0.598). There was no difference in all WHOQOL-BREF domains between women with CC and EC., Conclusions: VS is highly prevalent in CC and EC patients, with vaginal length decreased in both groups but with a higher vaginal diameter in those with EC. Introduction: The prevalence of meatal stenosis after circumcision remains unclear, and its causes are unknown., Objective: To know the prevalence and the causes of meatal stenosis after circumcision in boys., Study Design: Between October 2018 and April 2019, we carried out a prospective cross-sectional study on 1031 circumcised boys, aged 5-8 years (mean age 6.1 years ± 0.3 years), enrolled in the first level of primary school. All enrolled children underwent genitourinary examination. Moreover, an anonymous questionnaire was filled-in by one of the parents., Results: The screening revealed the presence of meatal stenosis in 185 children, representing a prevalence of 17.9% of cases (95% CI = 15.6-20.3). Analysis of the results using both the univariate and multivariate mode brought out some common risk factors such as a foreskin that completely adheres to the glans with forceful retraction of the prepuce and the use of a healing product: Beta-sitosterol and Hydrocotyl (Centella Asiatica), rarely Trolamine. In addition, this study showed that boys circumcised during their first week of life are twice as likely to develop meatal stenosis than those circumcised between 7 and 12 months (OR = 2.08; 95% CI = 1.10-3.92, p = 0.021)., Discussion: We believe that when the foreskin is fully attached to the glans, forced retraction of the prepuce most often causes a loss of the mucous membrane that covers the glans, making the glans less resistant to chemical attack, and therefore may play an important role in the development of meatal stenosis. However, This study is limited by the absence of a cohort of uncircumcised boys for comparison to see if the small diameter of the meatus is also present in this group., Conclusions: This study showed that stenosis of the urethral meatus is a frequent complication of circumcision. Background: Anastomotic stricture is a recognized complication after esophagectomy. It can impact the patient's quality of life and may require recurrent dilatations. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of strictures, contributing factors, and long-term outcomes of management in patients undergoing esophagectomy with thoracic anastomosis using a standardized circular stapled technique., Methods: All patients who underwent a 2-stage transthoracic esophagectomy with curative intent between January 2010 and December 2019 at NOGU, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK were included. All patients who underwent a stapled (circular) intrathoracic anastomosis using gastric conduits were included. Stricture incidence, number of dilatations to resolve strictures, and refractory stricture rate were recorded., Results: Overall, 705 patients were included with 192 (27.2%) developing strictures. Refractory strictures occurred in 38 patients (5.4%). One, 2, and 3 dilatations were needed for resolution of symptoms in 46 (37.4%), 23 (18.7%), and 20 (16.3%) patients, respectively. Multivariable analysis identified the occurrence of an anastomotic leak (odds ratio 1.906, 95% confidence interval 1.088-3.341, P = .024) and circular staple size <28 mm (odds ratio 1.462, 95% confidence interval 1.033-2.070, P = .032) as independent predictors of stricture occurrence. Patients with anastomotic leaks were more likely to develop refractory strictures (13.1% vs 4.7%, odds ratio 3.089, 95% confidence interval 1.349-7.077, P = .008)., Conclusion: This study highlights that nearly 30% of patients having a circular stapled anastomosis will require dilatation after surgery. Background: Malament stitch is one of the effective techniques employed to minimize bleeding in simple open prostatectomy but concerns about possibility of increased risk of bladder neck stenosis has limited its routine use., Aim: We studied patients who had open prostatectomy with Malament stitch to determine the incidence of bladder neck stenosis amongst them., Material and Methods: This was a prospective study of 72patients who had simple open prostatectomy in which malament stitch was applied from 2010 to 2020. A proforma was designed to collect data. Pretreatment variables were transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) volume of prostate, pretreatment IPSS value, postvoidal residual urine volume before surgery, weight of enucleated prostate adenoma, time to removal of Malament stitch. Outcome measures were done with post treatment IPSS and PVR at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. Cystoscopy was done at 3 months or 6 months for patients with rising outcome measures to determine presence of bladder neck stenosis., Results: The mean age of patients in this study was 68.3 years (SD = 7.1, range 52-82). The mean of the pretreatment score for IPSS was 30.7 (SD = 3.9, range 18-34) and 5.9 (SD = 0.2) for QOLS. The mean weight of prostate estimated with ultrasound was 169.5 g and mean weight of enucleated adenoma of the prostate was 132.5 g. The mean time of removal of Malament stitch was 23.1 h. Only 3 (4.2%) patients required cystoscopy because of increasing IPSS and PVR at 3 months postprostatectomy. 2 (2.8%) patients out of 72patients were confirmed to have bladder neck stenosis at cystoscopy., Conclusion: Malament stitch did not lead to significant incidence of bladder neck stenosis in this study., (© 2021. Objective: The aim of the study was to introduce our new modification of the Indiana pouch with a refluxing ureteral anastomosis in a tubular afferent ileal segment of the ileo-caecal urinary reservoir., Patients and Methods: Between February 2008 and December 2020, we performed a total of 37 modified continent ileo-caecal pouches for urinary diversion when orthotopic bladder substitution was not possible. Hereby, we modified the Indiana pouch procedure with a new refluxing end-to-end ureteral anastomosis into an 8-cm afferent tubular ileal segment., Results: We performed the modified Indiana pouch in 27 women (73%) and 10 men (27%). The median age of the patients at time of operation was 64 years (43-80 years). To date, the average follow-up is 69 months (3-156 months). In 32/37 cases, we performed the new pouch procedure after radical cystectomy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer and in 1/37 cases after radical cystectomy for locally advanced prostate cancer. In 4 cases, the procedure was performed after total exenteration of the pelvis due to locally advanced bladder, colorectal, or gynaecological cancers. Ureteral anastomotic strictures were seen in 2/37 patients (5.4%) or 2/72 (2.8%) of renal units., Conclusions: Our modification of the Indiana pouch cutaneous continent urinary diversion with the ureteral anastomosis to a tubular segment of the pouch is easy to perform and effective in reducing the rate of ureteral anastomotic strictures. Background: Obesity is a known risk factor for the development of chronic venous disease (CVD). However, some obese patients with lower limb skin changes suggestive of venous disease do not demonstrate venous reflux or obstruction. Popliteal vein compression (PVC) caused by knee hyperextension during standing has been postulated by others to be more common in the obese due to the increased adipose content of the popliteal fossa. This compression may contribute to the development of venous disease. The objective was to examine the prevalence of PVC in obese and nonobese subjects, with and without venous disease., Methods: Participants were recruited across the range of Clinical-Etiology-Anatomy-Pathophysiology (CEAP) clinical classifications and body mass. Those referred for venous studies had full venous ultrasound assessments. To assess for PVC, the popliteal vein was assessed via B-mode ultrasound whilst the subject stood and performed two maneuvers: knee hyperextension and a bilateral toe stand. Video clips of each maneuver were analyzed offline., Results: There were 309 limbs (158 subjects), of which 131 were nonobese (body mass index [BMI]: 26 ± 3 kg/m 2 ) and 178 obese (BMI: 43 ± 8 kg/m 2 ). PVC with toe stand (PVC(toe stand)) was more common in obese limbs (89% vs 64%, P < .001). It occurred mainly in the distal popliteal vein, associated with contraction of the gastrocnemius muscles. PVC with knee hyperextension (PVC(lock)) was also more frequent in obese limbs (39% vs 10%, P < .0001) and was distinct as it occurred more proximally in the popliteal vein. PVC(lock) was significantly more frequent in all C classes of obese patients, most notably in the obese with C4-6 CVD (41% vs 4%, P < .0001), and was associated with more severe Venous Clinical Severity Score (median 8 [range: 0-19] vs 5 [0-21], P = .034). There were 19 limbs with skin changes (C4-6) with no venous reflux or obstruction on ultrasound, exclusively obese limbs. These limbs, designated CEAP Pn limbs, were in older, shorter participants with a higher BMI than their counterparts demonstrating reflux, and they also had more frequent PVC(lock) (63% vs 37%, P = .036)., Conclusions: PVC(toe stand) and PVC(lock) are both functional effects and more common in obese limbs. PVC(toe stand) is likely associated with normal functioning of the calf muscle pump. Background: Ileoanal pouch anastomosis is the surgical treatment of choice for patients with intractable ulcerative colitis. Perianal disease is a feature that is often present in Crohn's disease and infrequently in ulcerative colitis., Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the incidence and factors associated with the development of postoperative perianal fistula in patients undergoing ileoanal pouch anastomosis for ulcerative colitis., Design: A prospectively collected database at the time of surgery with subsequent follow-up was utilized., Setting: The study was conducted at a high-volume single institution., Patients: We studied a series of 475 consecutive patients with preoperative diagnosis of ulcerative colitis who underwent ileoanal pouch anastomosis., Main Outcome Measures: The incidence of postoperative perianal fistula and the factors correlating with its development were primary outcome measures of the study., Results: The overall number of patients developing perianal fistulas was 44 of 475 (9%). Eleven patients with perianal fistula (25%) required return to ileostomy, of which 7 had pouch excision. Patients who developed a postoperative perianal fistula had a younger age at the onset of disease, had a lower age at index surgery, and were more likely to be subsequently classified as indeterminate colitis or Crohn's disease. Patients developing perianal fistulas were also more likely to develop partial dehiscence or stricture of the ileoanal anastomosis., Limitations: This study spans nearly 40 years during which the surgical procedure evolved., Conclusions: Young age at the onset of disease, lower age at surgery, and postoperative diagnosis of Crohn's disease and indeterminate colitis were the factors correlating with perianal fistulas. Delayed healing of the ileoanal anastomosis with partial separation and/or stricture also correlated with the onset of perianal fistulas. Background: A permanent stoma is an unintended consequence that cannot be avoided completely after intersphincteric resection for ultralow rectal cancer. Unfortunately, its incidence and risk factors have been poorly defined., Objective: The objective was to determine the cumulative incidence and risk factors of permanent stoma after intersphincteric resection for ultralow rectal cancer., Design: This study was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data., Settings: This study was conducted at a colorectal surgery referral center., Patients: A total of 185 consecutive patients who underwent intersphincteric resection with diverting ileostomy from 2011 to 2019 were included., Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was the incidence of and risk factors for the permanent stoma. The secondary outcome included differences in stoma formation between patients with partial, subtotal, and total intersphincteric resection., Results: After a median follow-up of 40 months (range, 6-107 months), 26 of 185 patients eventually required a permanent stoma, accounting for a 5-year cumulative incidence of 17.4%. The causes of permanent stoma were anastomotic morbidity (46.2%, 12/26), local recurrence (19.2%, 5/26), distant metastasis (19.2%, 5/26), fecal incontinence (3.8%, 1/26), perioperative mortality (3.8%, 1/26), patients' refusal (3.8%, 1/26), and poor general condition (3.8%, 1/26). Although the incidence of permanent stoma was significantly different between the intersphincteric resection groups (partial vs subtotal vs total: 8.3% vs 20% vs 25.8%, p = 0.02), it was not an independent predictor of stoma formation. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that anastomotic leakage (OR = 5.29; p = 0.001) and anastomotic stricture (OR = 5.13; p = 0.002) were independently predictive of permanent stoma., Limitations: This study was limited by its retrospective nature and single-center data., Conclusions: The 5-year cumulative incidence of permanent stoma was 17.4%. Anastomotic complications were identified as risk factors. Patients should be informed of the risks and benefits when contemplating the ultimate sphincter-sparing surgery. Introduction: Ileocolic resection for Crohn's disease traditionally does not include a high ligation of the ileocolic pedicle, and most commonly is performed with a stapled side-to-side ileocolic anastomosis. The mesentery has recently been implicated in the pathophysiology of Crohn's disease. Two techniques have been developed and are associated with reduced postoperative recurrence: the Kono-S anastomosis that excludes diseased mesentery and extended mesenteric excision that resects diseased mesentery. We aimed to assess the technical feasibility and safety of a novel combination of techniques: mesenteric excision and exclusion., Techniques: This initial report is a single-center descriptive study of consecutive adults who underwent mesenteric excision and exclusion for primary or recurrent ileocolic Crohn's disease from September 2020 to June 2021. Medication exposure and endoscopic balloon dilation before surgery were recorded. Phenotype was classified using the Montreal Classification. Thirty-day outcomes were reported. A video of the mesenteric excision and exclusion including the Kono-S anastomosis is presented., Results: Twenty-two patients with ileocolic Crohn's disease underwent mesenteric excision and exclusion: 100% had strictures, 59% had fistulas, 81% were on biologics, and 27% had previous ileocolic resection(s). Seventy-two percent underwent laparoscopic procedures, a mesenteric defect was closed in 86%, omental flaps were fashioned in 77%, and 3 patients were diverted. Median operative time was 175 minutes. Median postoperative stay was 4 days. At 30 days, there were 2 readmissions for reintervention: 1 seton placement and 1 percutaneous drainage of a sterile collection. There were no cases of intra-abdominal sepsis or anastomotic leak., Conclusions: Mesenteric excision and exclusion represents an innovative, progressive, and promising approach that appears to be highly feasible and safe. Background: After major bile duct injury, hepaticojejunostomy can result in good long-term patency, but anastomotic stricture is a common cause of long-term morbidity. There is a need to assimilate high-level evidence to establish risk factors for development of anastomotic stricture after hepaticojejunostomy for bile duct injury., Methods: A systematic review of studies reporting the rate of anastomotic stricture after hepaticojejunostomy for bile duct injury was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Meta-analyses of proposed risk factors were then performed., Results: Meta-analysis included 5 factors (n = 2,155 patients, 17 studies). Concomitant vascular injury (odds ratio 4.96; 95% confidence interval 1.92-12.86; P = .001), postrepair bile leak (odds ratio: 8.03; 95% confidence interval 2.04-31.71; P = .003), and repair by nonspecialist surgeon (odds ratio 11.29; 95% confidence interval 5.21-24.47; P < .0001) increased the rate of anastomotic stricture of hepaticojejunostomy after bile duct injury. Level of injury according to the Strasberg Grade did not significantly affect the rate of anastomotic stricture (odds ratio: 0.97; 95% confidence interval 0.45-2.10; P = .93). Owing to heterogeneity of reporting, it was not possible to perform a meta-analysis for the impact of timing of repair on anastomotic stricture rate., Conclusion: The only modifiable risk factor, repair by a nonspecialist surgeon, demonstrates the importance of broad awareness of these data. Background: Central vein stenosis (CVS) is a common complication in hemodialysis patients following tunneled central venous catheter (CVC) insertion. Little is known about its incidence, association with patient characteristics, or relationship with duration of CVC placement. We systematically evaluated central vein stenosis in hemodialysis patients receiving their first CVC exchange at a large medical center., Methods: All new hemodialysis patients underwent an ultrasound before their internal jugular tunneled CVC placement, to exclude venous stenosis or thrombosis. After the initial CVC insertion, if the patients were referred for CVC exchange due to dysfunction, a catheterogram/venogram was performed to assess for hemodynamically significant (≥50%) central vein stenosis. During a 5-year period (January 2016 to January 2021), we quantified the incidence of CVS in patients undergoing CVC exchange. We also evaluated the association of central vein stenosis with patient demographics, comorbidities, and duration of CVC dependence before exchange., Results: During the study period, 273 patients underwent exchange of a tunneled internal jugular vein CVC preceded by a catheterogram/venogram. Hemodynamically significant CVS was observed in 36 patients (13%). CVS was not associated with patient age, sex, race, diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, or CVC laterality. However, the frequency of CVS was associated with the duration of CVC dependence (26% versus 11% for CVC duration ≥6 versus <6 months: odds ratio (95% CI), 3.17 (1.45 to 6.97), P =0.003)., Conclusions: Among incident hemodialysis patients receiving their first tunneled internal jugular CVC exchange, the overall incidence of de novo hemodynamically significant central vein stenosis was 13%. BACKGROUND Post-tuberculosis bronchomalacia (PTBM) is one of the main conditions occurring in patients after tracheobronchial tuberculosis (TBTB), and is also associated with the recurrence of symptoms. The present study aimed to investigate the predictors of PTBM in patients who had been undergoing appropriate TB treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS Clinical data of 104 patients with symptomatic airway stenosis after TBTB between January 01, 2019 and June 31, 2020 were recorded and analyzed. The association between baseline clinical characteristics, laboratory results, and PTBM was calculated with logistical regression. The time from onset of bronchoscopic intervention was examined by Kaplan-Meier estimates; differences between the 2 groups were tested by the log-rank test. RESULTS Fifty-seven patients (54.81%) had PTBM. In the multivariate logistical analysis, the left main bronchus stenosis lesion (odds ratio [OR]=3.763), neutrophil (NEUT) count (OR=1.527), and platelet (PLT) (OR=1.010) count were predictors of PTBM. During follow-up, patients with BM had a significantly longer duration from onset of bronchoscopic intervention than patients without BM (hazard ratio=2.412, P<0.0001). Further, all patients needing long-term bronchoscopic intervention therapy were subsequently identified as having PTBM. Additionally, blood PLT counts were significantly decreased to normal levels in the non-BM group (P<0.05), but not in the BM group (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS PTBM is most likely to occur in the left main bronchus. The inflammatory and immune responses associated with NEUT and PLT may represent therapeutic targets of PTBM. Our study is the first to report that decreased blood PLT count has the potential to monitor the treatment response.

The management of colorectal stricture complicating inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] remains a challenging condition. Stricture raises concern about neoplastic complications, which cannot be fully ruled out by negative endoscopic biopsies. Also, impassable strictures restrict the endoscopic monitoring of upstream disease activity and dysplasia. Surgery remains the 'gold standard' treatment for colonic strictures but is associated with high morbidity. Over the past few decades, our therapeutic arsenal for IBD has been reinforced by biologics and therapeutic endoscopy. Few studies have focused on colonic strictures, and so current therapeutic strategies are based on a low level of evidence and applied by analogy with the treatment of ileal strictures. Superior caval vein stenosis is a known complication following paediatric heart transplantation. Herein, we sought to assess the incidence of superior caval vein stenosis and need for intervention in a single centre paediatric heart transplantation programme. A retrospective review was performed to identify variables associated with superior caval vein stenosis and need for intervention. Patients were identified based on angiographic and echocardiographic signs of superior caval vein stenosis. Of 204 paediatric heart transplantation recipients, 49 (24.0%) had evidence of superior caval vein stenosis with no need for catheter intervention and 12 (5.9%) had superior caval vein stenosis requiring catheter intervention. Overall, patients with superior caval vein stenosis with and without intervention had more cavopulmonary anastomosis (41.7%; 20.4%), pre-transplant superior caval vein procedures (41.7%; 28.6%), and bicaval approach (100.0%; 98.0%), compared to the group with no stenosis (11.9% and p = 0.015, 12.6% and p = 0.004, 73.4% and p < 0.001, respectively). Smaller recipients and donors were more likely to need intervention. Intervention was also seen more frequently in recipients who were younger at diagnosis (4.7 years) compared to non-intervention (13.3 years; p = 0.040). Re-intervention was required in 16.7% patients (n = 2) and was not associated with any complications.

Objective: The incidence of benign ureteroenteric strictures following radical cystectomy (RC) for urinary bladder cancer (UBC) is investigated mainly in single-centre studies from high-volume centres. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cumulative incidence of strictures and risk factors in a population-based cohort., Patients and Methods: Data was collected from Bladder Cancer Data Base Sweden (BladderBaSe). The primary endpoint was stricture with intervention. Secondary endpoint included hydronephrosis both with/without intervention., Results: In total, 5,816 patients were registered as having had RC due to UBC between 1997 and 2014. After a median follow-up of 23.5 months (IQR = 9.0-63.1 months; range = 0.0-214.0 months), we found that 515 (8.9%) patients underwent intervention for stricture. Seven hundred and sixty-one (13.1%) patients were diagnosed with hydronephrosis without intervention. The cumulative incidence of strictures with intervention was 19.7% (95% CI = 16.7-23.1%) during the 17 years of follow-up. In the first year, the cumulative incidence of strictures was 5.6% (95% CI = 5.0-6.2%), and in the first 2 years 8.4% (95% CI = 7.6-9.3%). For the secondary endpoint, the cumulative incidence was 30.4% (95% CI = 26.7-33.1%) after 17 years. Only the year of RC was associated with stricture incidence in Cox regression analysis, whereas hospital cystectomy volume, patient age and patient sex were not., Conclusion: Ureteroenteric strictures requiring intervention may be more common than previously reported, affecting nearly one fifth of patients who have undergone RC for UBC. The annual incidence was highest in the first 2 years after surgery but the cumulative incidence increased continuously during 17 years of follow-up.

Objective: Although tracheal stomal stenosis can be life-threatening, factors associated with the occurrence of stomal stenosis remain unknown. This study was performed to evaluate these factors in adult patients., Methods: We retrospectively identified adult patients who underwent tracheostomy from 2010 to 2016 using a Japanese national inpatient and outpatient database. We performed Cox proportional hazard regression analyses to evaluate factors associated with the occurrence of tracheal stomal stenosis., Results: We obtained data on 25,436 eligible patients. The proportion of tracheal stomal stenosis was 0.9%. Tracheal stomal stenosis was significantly less likely to occur in patients with regular use of oral steroids [hazard ratio (HR), 0.28; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.09-0.88; P = 0.03] and in male patients (HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.57-0.97; P = 0.03). The occurrence of tracheal stomal stenosis was significantly associated with use of a mechanical ventilator at home (HR, 2.54; 95% CI, 1.55-4.15; P < 0.001) and a body mass index of <18.5 kg/m 2 (HR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.06-1.99; P = 0.02)., Conclusion: Our study revealed several factors that are associated with tracheal stomal stenosis. Objective: We aimed to establish the reliability of technique selection strategy for ureteroileal anastomosis (Bricker vs. Wallace) by comparing perioperative outcomes, complications, and anastomotic stricture rate in a contemporary series of patients who underwent open radical cystectomy followed by reconstruction of modified Hautmann neobladder., Materials and Methods: A total of 60 patients underwent radical cystectomy and modified Hautmann neobladder, of whom 30 patients (group I) with Bricker anastomotic technique were compared to 30 matched paired patients with end-to-end ureteroileal anastomosis (group II). Long-term results, including ureteroileal stricture (UIS) and postoperative complication rate at two year follow up were available. The choice of anastomosis type was successively based on chimney size, ureteral length after retro-sigmoidal tunneling and diameter of distal ureter. Postoperative complications were graded according to the Clavien-Dindo system., Results: Ureteroileal stricture rate was 6.6% in group I vs. 0% in group II, after three months (p < 0.05), while anastomotic leakage rate was 6.6% vs. 3.3% (group I vs group II) between the two groups for the same follow up period (p > 0.05). High-grade complications (Clavien III-V) were more in Bricker group as compared to Wallace group and the difference was significant (20% vs 10.3%, p = 0.03)., Conclusion: Our preliminary outcomes demonstrate that this selection strategy seems to be clinically reliable, with lower incidence of postoperative complications in Wallace group.

Background & Aims: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is increasingly recognized as a progressive disease and patients with long-standing disease can develop colorectal stricture. Few data about its incidence in UC are available, while risk factors for colorectal strictures in UC remain to be determined. We assessed the incidence of and risk factors for developing colorectal strictures in a large UC population., Methods: All adult patients followed at Nancy University hospital and at the centre hospitalier de Luxembourg for UC, between January 2004 and July 2019, were eligible for inclusion in this multicenter retrospective cohort study., Results: A total of 439 patients with UC were included. Median follow-up duration was 9.6 years. Incidence of colorectal stricture was 3.6%. The cumulative probability of developing this complication was 1% at 5 years and 2.3% at 10 years. Median age at stricture diagnosis was 47.9 years (41.0; 63.0), and median time from UC diagnosis to onset of stricture was 11.5 years (5; 15.3). Montreal A3 classification (age > 40 years) (P = .008) and steroids use (HR = 4.1; 95% CI, 1.1-16.1) were independent risk factors for stricture, whereas mesalamine-treated patients carried a lower risk (HR = 0.3; 95% CI, 0.1-0.9). Dysplasia was found in 6 patients with strictures (42.9%) and among them 5 developed a colorectal cancer (33.3%)., Conclusions: Patients with Montreal A3 classification and those exposed to steroids have a higher risk for strictures, while use of mesalamine lowers this risk. Background: The ileal conduit and ileal orthotopic neobladder were the most popular methods for urinary diversion following radical cystectomy. Stenting the anastomosis of ileo-ureter or ureter-neobladder was a common practice. However, it is still controversial if ureteral stents could prevent complications such as ureteroileal anastomosis stricture (UIAS) and ureteroileal anastomosis leakage (UIAL) after ureteral anastomosis., Objectives: This study aims to investigate the role of the ureteral stent in preventing UIAS and UIAL., Data Sources: We systematically searched the related studies in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library up to June 2020., Study Eligibility Criteria: Cohort studies that identified the use of stent and the incidence of UIAS or UIAL were recorded., Data Synthesis: Comparative meta-analysis was conducted on four cohort studies for comparison of UIAS and UIAL between the stented and nonstented groups. Besides, eleven studies which reported the events of UIAS and UIAL were used for meta-analysis of single proportion., Results: A total of 11 studies were qualified for analysis. Comparative meta-analysis identified that the incidence of UIAS was higher in the stented group than that in the nonstented group, but this did not reach a significant difference (odds ratio [OR]: 1.64; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.88-3.05; P = 0.12). Besides, there was no difference in the incidences of UIAL between the stented and the nonstented groups. On meta-analysis of single proportion, the incidence of UIAS was 7% (95% CI: 3%-10%) in the stented group and 3% (95% CI: 1%-6%) in the nonstented group. The UIAL rate was 1% (95% CI, 0%-4%) in stented patients and 2% (95% CI, 1%-4%) in nonstented patients., Conclusion: Stenting the ureteroileal anastomosis resulted in a higher incidence of UIAS. Background: Ureteroenteric stricture incidence has been reported as high as 20% after urinary diversion. Many patients have undergone prior radiotherapy for prostate, urothelial, colorectal, or gynecologic malignancy. We sought to evaluate the differences between ureteroenteric stricture occurrence between patients who had radiation prior to urinary diversion and those who did not., Methods: An IRB-approved cystectomy database was utilized to identify ureteroenteric strictures among 215 patients who underwent urinary diversion at a single academic center between 2016 and 2020. Chart abstraction was conducted to determine the presence of confirmed stricture in these patients, defined as endoscopic diagnosis or definitive imaging findings. Strictures due to malignant ureteral recurrence were excluded (3 patients). Statistical analysis was performed using chi squared test, t-test, and Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test, logistic regression, and Kaplan-Meier analysis of stricture by cancer type., Results: 65 patients had radiation prior to urinary diversion; 150 patients did not have a history of radiation therapy. Benign ureteroenteric stricture rate was 5.3% (8/150) in the non-radiated cohort and 23% (15/65) in the radiated cohort (p =  < 0.001). Initial management of stricture was percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) in 78% (18/23) and the remaining 22% (5/23) were managed with primary retrograde ureteral stent placement. Long term management included ureteral reimplantation in 30.4% (7/23)., Conclusions: Our study demonstrates a significant increase in rate of ureteroenteric strictures in radiated patients as compared to non-radiated patients. The insult of radiation on the ureteral microvascular supply is likely implicated in the cause of these strictures. Further study is needed to optimize surgical approach such as utilization of fluorescence angiography for open and robotic approaches., (© 2021. The Author(s).)

Purpose: Women's sexual health and wellbeing with cervical or vaginal cancer may be largely affected by complications from external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) and utero-vaginal brachytherapy (BT), of which vaginal stenosis is the main complication. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of support by a nurse sexologist on sexuality, vaginal side-effects, and the quality of clinical follow-up in patients treated with brachytherapy for cervical or vaginal cancer., Methods: We performed a retrospective study of the sexuality of women treated for cervical or vaginal cancer. Data from patients with cervical or vaginal cancer who underwent brachytherapy between 2013 and 2017 were collected at Institut Universitaire de Cancer de Toulouse-Oncopôle (IUCT-Oncopôle). Patients were divided into two groups: group A (intervention group) received support from a nurse sexologist and group B (control group) did not. The chi-square test and a logistic multivariate model were used for data analysis., Results: A total of 156 patients were included in this study, including 57.7% who were followed by a nurse sexologist. We observed low compliance in using vaginal dilators after brachytherapy and/or radiotherapy over time regardless of the group, and patients' sexual activity was inadequately addressed. Information regarding the resumption of sexuality 2 months after treatment was missing in 1.1% of patients in group A and in 36.4% of patients in group B. Multivariate analysis showed that patients in group A had a lower risk of developing vaginal stenosis with OR crude = 0.5 (95% CI = 0.25-0.92) and OR adj . = 0.5 (95% CI = 0.26-1.09) compared with those in group B., Conclusion: This retrospective study highlights the lack of information collected by physicians during follow-up concerning the sexuality of patients with cervical or vaginal cancer treated by EBRT and BT. The support offered by nurse sexologists in improving patients' sexual activity and reducing their physical side-effects such as vaginal stenosis is likely to be beneficial. A prospective study is currently being conducted to validate the present findings.
