The US Bureau of Labor Statistics notes this is substantially faster than the national average for other occupations. Information from this report finds its way into popular media, news shows, and other information outlets, which increases the number of prospective applicants to college and university health care management programs. A study was conducted to explore the perceptions of chief executive officers in US hospitals regarding the origins of leadership and how they felt about internally developed successors versus externally recruited successors. Furthermore, the study examined how this group of executives utilizes the succession planning process, what factors impact successor identification, what positions are applicable for succession planning activities, and who is ultimately held responsible for leadership continuity within the hospital industry. A study was conducted to determine if workforce demographics of chief executive officers within hospitals in the United States were changing. It sought to analyze the retirement patterns and the current gender mix of chief executive officers in hospital settings within the United States. Over the last few years, most health care facilities have become intensely aware of the need to increase patient satisfaction. However, with today's more consumer-driven market, this can be a daunting task for even the most experienced health care manager. Recent studies indicate that focusing on employee satisfaction and subsequent employee retention may be strong catalysts to patient satisfaction. This study offers a review of how employee satisfaction and retention correlate with patient satisfaction and also examines the current ways health care organizations are focusing on employee satisfaction and retention. Health care organizations continue to be plagued by labor shortage issues. Further complicating the already existing workforce challenges is an aging population poised to retire en masse within the next few years. With fewer cohorts in the age group of 25 to 44 years (Vital Speeches Day. 2004:71:23-27), a more mobile workforce (Grow Your Own Leaders: How to Identify, Develop, and Retain Leadership Talent, 2002), and an overall reduction in the number of individuals seeking employment in the health care field (J Healthc Manag. 2003:48:6-11), the industry could be faced with an unmanageable number of vacant positions throughout the organization. Bracing for the potential impact of these issues is crucial to the ongoing business continuity of health care organization. Many health care organizations have embraced succession planning to combat the potential labor famine. However, the health care industry as a whole seems to lag behind other industries in terms of succession planning efforts (Healthc Financ Manage. 2005;59:64-67). This article seeks to provide health care managers with a framework for improving the systematic preparation of the next generation of managers by analyzing the succession planning process. Photocatalysis mediated by low energy light wavelengths has potential to enable safer, sustainable synthetic methods. A phenanthroline-derived ligand bathocupSani, with a large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross section was used to construct a heteroleptic complex [Cu(bathocupSani)(DPEPhos)]BF 4 and a homoleptic complex [Cu(bathocupSani) 2 ]BF 4 . The ligand and the respective homoleptic complex with copper exhibit two-photon upconversion with an anti-Stokes shift of 1.2 eV using red light. High-risk sexual behavior is the primary risk factor for the acquisition and persistence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the development of HPV-associated diseases including cancer. Incidence of HPV infection is high among individuals in their late teens and early 20s. Thus, college students represent a historically high-risk group for HPV infection yet are also a group with the ability to independently access HPV vaccination for HPV prevention. To inform future interventions, we examined factors associated with HPV-associated risky sexual behaviors among sexually active college students. Data (N = 741) were from an anonymous online survey distributed to students at a public Midwestern university in 2021. The outcomes were HPV-associated sexual risk behaviors-number of oral or vaginal sexual partners [high (≥ 5) or low (< 5)] and age of oral or vaginal sexual debut [early (< 18 years) or late (≥ 18 years)]. Multivariable logistic regression models estimated the association between HPV-associated risky sexual behaviors and several predictors including age, gender, relationship status, academic level, country of birth, and rural-urban status. Among sexually active students, approximately 47% and 41% had a high number of lifetime vaginal and oral partners, respectively. Among the same group, 60% and 64% had early vaginal and oral sexual debut. Students who were single and dating (aOR = 1.93; 95% CI = 1.21, 3.08) or single and not dating (2.11; 1.28, 3.48) were more likely to have a high number of vaginal lifetime partners compared with married students. Single (vs. married) students were also about twice as likely to have a high number of oral lifetime partners. Relative to graduate students, freshmen/sophomores were more likely to have an early vaginal (2.44; 1.45, 4.11) and oral (2.14; 1.26, 3.63) sexual debut. Thiol-yne reactions typically employ thiols and terminal alkynes as the reaction partners. The thiol-yne reaction of alkynyl sulfides and thiols is possible when employing a nonmetal photocatalyst eosin Y, green LED irradiation, under an air atmosphere. Alkynyl sulfides were transformed in good overall yields (58-90% total yields, 11 examples) favoring the cis isomer. No addition to the α-position of the alkynyl sulfide is observed, and regioselectivity is believed to be controlled through the stabilization of radical intermediates by the adjacent sulfur atom. Furthermore, control experiments with "all-carbon" internal alkynes demonstrate that alkynyl sulfides possess improved reactivity and regioselectivity profiles during thiol-yne processes.

We describe the level of awareness of the link between HPV and HPV-associated cancers and identify demographic and lifestyle factors associated with awareness. This was a cross-sectional study of college students (n = 862) at a public Midwestern university conducted between February and May 2021. The outcomes were student's awareness-accessed by asking students if they knew whether HPV was causally link with anal, cervical, vaginal, oropharyngeal, vulvar, and penile cancers. Logistic regression models estimated the association between sociodemographic and sexual behavior and awareness of the link between HPV and HPV-associated cancers. Approximately 70% were aware that HPV causes cervical, 53% were aware HPV causes vaginal, 40% were aware HPV causes vulvar cancers, 39% were aware HPV causes oropharyngeal, 38% were aware HPV causes penile, and 34% were aware HPV causes anal cancers. In multivariable analyses, men were less likely to be aware that HPV causes vaginal (aOR = 0.42, 95% CI 0.30-0.59) or vulvar cancers (aOR = 0.54, 95% CI 0.38-0.77) compared to women. Compared with sexually naïve students, those who had have oral and vaginal sex were more likely to be aware that HPV causes anal (aOR = 1.98, 95% CI 1.17-3.34), penile (aOR = 1.82, 95% CI 1.11-2.97), vaginal (aOR = 1.81, 95% CI 1.14-2.88), or vulvar (aOR = 2.05, 95% CI 1.24-3.40) cancers. Awareness of the link between HPV and HPV-associated cancers was low, except cervical. This underscores the need for more tailored interventions to increase knowledge about HPV and its association with cancer. HPV vaccination is most effective if received before initiation of sexual activity. Previous studies suggested that young adult women who were not sexually active were not interested in receiving the vaccine because they did not think it was necessary. Whether this misperception is still prevalent today-and also shared by men-is unknown. This study examined whether sexual activity was associated with HPV vaccine uptake (initiation and completion) among university students. A cross-sectional study was conducted between February and May 2021 among students ( n = 951) at a public Midwestern University. Sexual activity was categorized as "never" or "ever" had oral and/or vaginal sex. Outcome variables were HPV vaccine initiation, defined as receipt of ≥1 dose, and completion, defined as receipt of ≥3 doses. Multivariable logistic regression models estimated the association between sexual activity and HPV vaccine uptake, adjusting for sociodemographic factors. Approximately 18% of students reported never engaging in sexual activity. Overall, 45.5% initiated the HPV vaccine, and 16.5% completed the vaccine series. After adjusting for covariates, compared to students that reported never engaging in sexual activity, those that had ever engaged in sexual activity were more likely to have initiated the vaccine series (aOR = 2.06, 95% CI: 1.34-3.17); however, no difference was observed for completion. HPV vaccination was low; sexually naïve students were less likely to initiate the HPV vaccine. Since sexually naïve students may benefit from receiving the HPV vaccination, targeted interventions should be implemented towards this population to help increase vaccination rates and prevent HPV-associated diseases.

A series of copper-based photocatalysts of the type Cu( NN )( BINAP )BF 4 were synthesized bearing π-extended diimine ligands. Their behavior in several photocatalytic processes were evaluated and revealed acceptable levels of activity in an SET process, but negligible activity in PCET or ET processes. Suitable activity in ET processes could be restored through modification of the ligand. The BINAP-derived complexes were then evaluated for activity against triple-negative breast cancer cell lines. Controls indicated that copper complexes, and not their ligands, were responsible for activity. Encouraging activity was displayed by a homoleptic complex Cu( dppz ) 2 BF 4 .

The purpose of this qualitative systematic review was to examine how frailty was conceptually and operationally defined for participant inclusion in qualitative research focused on the lived experience of frailty in community-living frail older adults. Search of six electronic databases, 1994-2019, yielded 25 studies. Data collection involved extracting the definition of frailty from the study aim, background, literature review, methods, and sampling strategy in each research study. Quality appraisal indicated that 13 studies (52%) demonstrated potential researcher bias based on insufficient information about participant recruitment, sampling, and relationship between the researcher and participant. Content analysis and concept mapping were applied for data synthesis. Although frailty was generally defined as a multidimensional, biopsychosocial construct with loss of resilience and vulnerability to adverse outcomes, most studies defined the study population based on older age and physical impairments derived from subjective assessment by the researcher, a healthcare professional, or a family member. However, 13 studies (52%) used objective or performance-based quantitative measures to classify participant frailty. There was no consistency across studies in standardized measures or objective assessment of frailty. Synthesis of the findings yielded four themes: Time, Vulnerability, Loss, and Relationships. The predominance of older age and physical limitations as defining characteristics of frailty raises questions about whether participants were frail, since many older adults at advanced age and with physical limitations are not frail. Lack of clear criteria to classify frailty and reliance on subjective assessment introduces the risk for bias, threatens the validity and interpretation of findings, and hinders transferability of findings to other contexts. Clear frailty inclusion and exclusion criteria and a standardized approach in the reporting of how frailty is conceptually and operationally defined in study abstracts and the methodology used is necessary to facilitate dissemination and development of metasynthesis studies that aggregate qualitative research findings that can be used to inform future research and applications in clinical practice to improve healthcare., Competing Interests: The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of this article., (Copyright © 2021 Deborah A. Copper-catalyzed C sp -S cross-coupling is known to form rare macrocyclic alkynyl sulfides. Computational studies now suggest a mechanism for the reaction pathway. Upon formation of Cu-S species, subsequent α-addition/elimination at the ethynylic carbon affords the desired macrocycle.

The synthesis of rare macrocyclic alkynediyl sulfides by a Cu-catalyzed C sp -S cross-coupling is presented. The catalytic protocol (Cu(MeCN) 4 PF 6 /dtbbpy) promotes macrocyclization of peptides, dipeptides and tripeptides at ambient temperature (14 examples, 23→73 % yields) via thiols and bromoalkynes, and is chemoselective with regards to terminal alkynes. Importantly, the underexplored alkynediyl sulfide functionality incorporates a rigidifying structural element and opens new opportunities for diversification of macrocyclic frameworks through S oxidation, halide addition and azide-alkyne cycloaddition chemistries to integrate sulfones, halides or valuable fluorophores (7 examples, 37→92 % yields)., (© 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of thiols and bromoalkynes affords a mild, rapid, and selective C sp -S coupling with broad scope, enabling the use of aryl-, alkyl-, and silyl-substituted alkynyl coupling partners (38 total examples, 50-99% yields). Importantly, the method enables the preparation of difficult-to-access bis-heteroatom-functionalized ( S , S -, S , P -, and S , N -) alkynes.

The relative stability and predictable reactivity of alkynyl sulfides make them ideal synthons for the development of new transformations. Classic methods for forming alkynyl sulfides relied on dehydrohalogenation approaches. However more recent methods have focused on employing umpolung strategies, as well as nucleophilic and electrophilic thiol alkynylation. In addition, the recent syntheses of Csp-S bonds have trended towards exploiting catalysis and expanding the reaction scope of the methods. A survey of existing methods to form alkynyl sulfides is presented as well as an evaluation with regards to the scope of each method, to provide the reader with an overview of advantages and limitations of current technology.

Macrocycles can restrict the rotation of substituents through steric repulsions, locking in conformations that provide or enhance the activities of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, aroma chemicals, and materials. In many cases, the arrangement of substituents in the macrocycle imparts an element of planar chirality. The difficulty in predicting when planar chirality will arise, as well as the limited number of synthetic methods to impart selectivity, have led to planar chirality being regarded as an irritant. We report a strategy for enantio- and atroposelective biocatalytic synthesis of planar chiral macrocycles. Background: Faculty who teach gerontological nursing are challenged to deliver competency-based baccalaureate nursing education. Because our courses are divided into multiple sections and taught by a variety of faculty, the need for a peer-reviewed, curated repository of gerontological learning materials was conceived., Method: Syllabi for prelicensure and RN-to-baccalaureate nursing (BSN) degree gerontological courses were reviewed. Stufflebeam's Content, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model of program evaluation provided a framework to guide the process of identifying existing resources and gaps in eLearning materials. Using the Learning Object Review Instrument, faculty determined the relevance and applicability of eLearning materials., Results: A crosswalk between the syllabi and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing-recommended geriatric nursing competencies was completed to evaluate eLearning materials identified as valuable. Consensus was reached, and content was placed in the learning management system., Conclusion: This project can serve as a model for other course faculty and faculty in other specialty areas to enhance the curriculum by providing readily available, multifaceted instructional resources. A copper-based photocatalyst, Cu(tmp)(BINAP)BF 4 , was found to be active in a photoredox Appel-type conversion of alcohols to bromides. The catalyst was identified from a screening of 50 complexes and promoted the transformation of primary and secondary alcohols to their corresponding bromides and carboxylic acids to their anhydrides. The protocol was also amendable and optimized under continuous flow conditions.

In the United States, an estimated 20 million people, or 15% of the population, are currently infected with human papilloma virus (HPV). The prevalence of HPV is increasing in females aged 14 to 24 years. Assessing allied health students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding HPV was performed using a 34-question survey. The survey was in four sections: general information, measuring knowledge of HPV and the vaccine, HPV vaccine, and HPV screening and diagnosis. Physicians were noted by 31.6% of the participants as the first individual who gave them information about HPV. There were 46.4% of the participants who stated that HPV education came from a school nurse. Nurses play a critical role in educating young people about the benefits of the HPV vaccine.

A library of 50 copper-based complexes derived from bisphosphines and diamines was prepared and evaluated in three mechanistically distinct photocatalytic reactions. In all cases, a copper-based catalyst was identified to afford high yields, where new heteroleptic complexes derived from the bisphosphine BINAP displayed high efficiency across all reaction types. A photochemical dual-catalytic cross-coupling to form alkynyl sulfides via C(sp)-S bond formation is described. The cross-coupling of thiols and bromoalkynes is promoted by a soluble organic carbazole-based photocatalyst using continuous flow techniques. Synthesis of alkynyl sulfides bearing a wide range of electronically and sterically diverse aromatic alkynes and thiols can be achieved in good to excellent yields (50-96 %). The simple continuous flow setup also allows for short reaction times (30 min) and high reproducibility on gram scale. A phase separation/continuous flow strategy employing an oxidative Glaser-Hay coupling of alkynes has been applied toward the synthesis of the macrocyclic core of complex pharmaceutical vaniprevir. The phase separation/continuous flow strategy afforded similar yields at 100-500 times the concentration and at shorter reaction times than common slow addition/high dilution techniques. In addition, dendritic PEG cosolvents were employed in the phase separation strategy for the first time and shown to allow productive macrocyclization at concentrations up to 200 mM.

A synthesis of neomarchantin A has been achieved wherein key bond constructions involving C-O or C-C bond formations were augmented via continuous flow techniques. Of note, the synthesis of neomarchantin A represents the first demonstration of catalytic macrocyclic olefin metathesis as a key step for the synthesis of a macrocyclic bisbibenzyl natural product.

An increasingly sustainable photochemical synthesis of carbazoles was developed using a catalytic system of Fe(phen) 3 (NTf 2 ) 2 /O 2 under continuous flow conditions and was demonstrated on gram-scale using a numbering-up strategy. Photocyclization of triaryl and diarylamines into the corresponding carbazoles occurs in general in higher yields than with previously developed photocatalysts.

A study was conducted to analyze the perceptions of chief executive officers in US hospitals regarding leadership development and succession planning. Results of the study were compared to identical surveys delivered in previous years for the purposes of identifying possible trends and changing perspectives related to how executives use succession planning in their facilities, what factors influence the identification of successors, what positions are the more likely to use succession planning efforts, and who specifically should be responsible for building the leadership pipeline.

Photochemistry is an important tool in organic synthesis that has largely been underdeveloped in comparison to thermal activation. Recent advances in technology have ushered in a new era in synthetic photochemistry. The emergence of photocatalysis, which exploits sensitizers for the absorption of visible light, has provided organic chemists with a new route to the generation of radical intermediates for synthesis. Of particular interest is the development of Cu-based complexes for photocatalysis, which possess variable photophysical properties and can display complementary reactivity with common photocatalysts based on heavier transition metals such as Ru or Ir. Heteroleptic Cu-based sensitizers incorporating the presence of both a bisphosphine and diamine ligand bound to the copper center are a promising class of photocatalysts. Their synthesis is a single step, often involving only precipitation for purification. In addition, it was shown that the sensitizers could be formed in situ in the reaction mixture, simplifying the experimental setup. The heteroleptic nature of the Cu-complexes also affords opportunities to fine-tune properties. For example, structurally rigidified bisphosphines reinforce geometries about the metal center to extend the excited state lifetime. Variation of the diamine ligand can influence the excited state oxidation/reduction potentials and optical absorbances. The heteroleptic complex Cu(XantPhos)(neo)BF4 has demonstrated utility in the synthesis of helical polyaromatic carbocycles. The synthesis of [5]helicene, a relatively simple member of the helicene family, was improved from the existing UV-light mediated method by eliminating the formation of unwanted byproducts. In addition, the Cu-based sensitizers also promoted the formation of novel pyrene/helicene hybrids for materials science applications. The synthetic methods that were developed were augmented when combined with continuous flow technology. The irradiation of reaction mixtures as they are pumped through small diameter tubing provides a more homogeneous and increased photon flux compared with irradiation in round-bottom flasks or other batch reactors. The value of continuous flow methods is also evident when examining UV-light photochemistry, where the simple and safe experimental set-ups allow for further exploration of high energy light for synthetic purposes. The synthesis of functionalized complex carbazoles was also studied using both a visible light method exploiting a heteroleptic copper-based sensitizer and a UV-light mediated method. It was demonstrated that both the photocatalysis methods and UV light photochemistries were rendered more user-friendly, safe, and reproducible when using continuous flow methods. Interestingly, the two photochemical methods often afford contrasting selectivities as a result of their inherently different mechanisms. It can be expected that the complementarity of the various photochemical methods will be an asset to synthetic chemists as the field continues to evolve.

A formal total synthesis of ivorenolide A has been accomplished employing a Z-selective olefin cross metathesis and a macrocyclic Glaser-Hay coupling as key steps. The macrocyclization protocol employed a phase separation/continuous flow manifold whose advantages include catalysis, fast reaction times, high concentrations, and facile scale-up.

Internally promoting clinical staff members into management positions is often a wise organizational strategy. Although there are advantages in doing such, there are also a number of challenges. Newly appointed managers may need introductory management level training given technical expertise does not always equate to management expertise. Devoting time to teaching even the most basic management skills will assure a more seamless role transition for the promoted employee. Upper administration also needs to be aware that possessing clinical expertise does not always serve as a precursor to promotion. Not every clinical employee, regardless of how proficient they are in their technical roles, seeks to be a manager.

An evaluation of both a visible-light- and UV-light-mediated synthesis of carbazoles from various triarylamines with differing electronic properties under continuous-flow conditions has been conducted. In general, triarylamines bearing electron-rich groups tend to produce higher yields than triarylamines possessing electron-withdrawing groups. A study was conducted to determine the perceptions of chief executive officers in US hospitals regarding the most important characteristics aspiring health care executives should possess. The results of this 2012 study were compared with a previous study conducted in 2007 to determine if the perceptions had changed over time.

Presenteeism is defined as the act of going to work when sick. Occupations that have a high degree of human interaction, such as healthcare providers and educators, have been found to exhibit the highest rates of presenteeism. The incidence of presenteeism among physicians has been reported to be as high as 90%. Various reasons are given for choosing to work when sick including a commitment to patients, unwillingness to burden coworkers, competition, and the lack of a suitable replacement. The topic is important in the field of radiology given presenteeism has been shown to reduce worker productivity, increase the likelihood of patient errors, and result in negative long term health effects. Radiology managers can discourage presenteeism by changing attitudes toward the use of sick leave and through health promotion programs to encourage healthy lifestyles.

Efficient direct synthesis of macrodiolides via catalysis using Hf(OTf)4 is possible in high yields, forming water as the sole by-product. The first protocol for the direct synthesis of macrodiolides from equimolar mixtures of diols and dicarboxylic acids was developed (58-96%). In addition, modification of the reaction concentration allows for the synthesis of head-to-tail macrodiolides from the corresponding seco acids. The catalytic preparation of the macrodiolides using a commercially available catalyst without the need for slow addition or azeotropic condition provides an operationally simple alternative to protocols which employ toxic tin catalysts or stoichiometric activation strategies.

A ministudy was conducted to collect self-reported employee turnover rates in US hospitals. The results indicate many hospitals are struggling with high employee turnover rates. Widespread variances in ratings were observed across hospitals, which may be due to lack of consistency in how they each calculate their employee turnover. This makes benchmarking for the purposes of performance improvement challenging.

An advanced strategy for efficient macrocyclic Cu(I)-catalyzed cycloaddition is described. The key features include employing azide-iodoalkyne cycloadditions (CuAiAC), low catalyst loadings, relatively high concentrations (30 mM → 300 mM), and application to continuous flow. The remarkably efficient new tool affords a variety of macrocyclic skeletons having either different alkyl, aryl, or amino acid spacers in high yields (70-97%). The macrocyclic CuAiAC process affords macrocycles having an iodotriazole moiety that can be further functionalized using standard Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings.

Complex economic factors require health care professionals to possess multiple skills. Although controversial, some characteristics associated with Machiavellianism may be needed for the maintenance of organizational solvency. A study was conducted to determine the differences between aspiring health care managers and patient care professionals regarding Machiavellian tendencies. The results of the study indicate a significant mix of Machiavellian traits exists within both groups and that these need to be both cultivated and controlled. Efforts should be made to increase some Machiavellian tendencies such as risk taking and creativity while extinguishing counterproductive traits that lead to unethical decision making.

Macrocyclic olefin metathesis has seen advances in the areas of stereochemistry, chemoselectivity, and catalyst stability, but strategies aimed at controlling dilution effects in macrocyclizations are rare. Herein, a protocol to promote macrocyclic olefin metathesis, one of the most common synthetic tools used to prepare macrocycles, at relatively high concentrations (up to 60 mM) is described by exploitation of a phase-separation strategy. A macrocyclic Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira-type cross-coupling reaction has been developed that employs an operationally simple CuCl/phen/Cs2CO3 catalyst system. Macrocyclizations can be performed at relatively high concentrations without the need for slow addition techniques and form macrocycles with various ring sizes and functional groups. The optimized protocol was employed in the synthesis of (S)-zearalane, demonstrating applicability toward the synthesis of a macrocycle with known biological activity.

Synthesis of helically chiral aromatics resulting from fusion of pyrene and [4]- or [5]helicene has been accomplished using photoredox catalysis employing a Cu-based sensitizer as the key step. Photocyclisation experiments for the synthesis of the target compounds were carried out in batch and using continuous flow strategies. The solid-state structures, UV/Vis absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene-helicene hybrids were investigated and compared to that of the parent [5]helicene to discern the effects of merging a pyrene moiety within a helicene skeleton. The studies demonstrated that pyrene-helicene hybrids adopt co-planar or stacked arrangements in the solid state, in contrast to the solid-state structure of the parent [5]helicene. The UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene-helicene hybrids exhibited strong red-shifts when compared to the parent [5]helicene. A study was conducted to revisit the perceptions of chief executive officers in US hospitals regarding the origin of leadership and how they felt about internally developed successors versus externally recruited successors. Furthermore, the study sought to develop understanding of how this group of executives utilizes the succession planning process, what factors impact successor identification, what positions are applicable for succession planning activities, and who is ultimately held responsible for leadership continuity within the hospital industry. The results of this 2012 study were compared with a previous study conducted in 2007 to determine if the perceptions had changed over time.

The reactivity of a Cu catalyst for oxidative coupling is modulated by a small molecule additive, diethyl malonate, that slows over-oxidation of 2-naphthols. Efficient heterocoupling between electron-rich and electron-poor 2-naphthols/2-naphthylamines affords C(1)-symmetric BINOLs with yields ranging from 35-98%.

The aggregation properties of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can be exploited in organic synthesis to control dilution effects. Through the use of solvent mixtures containing PEG(400) /MeOH, macrocyclization by Glaser-Hay coupling can be conducted at high concentrations. This study is a reanalysis of employer incentives for healthcare managers. In 2007, a survey was administered to determine the top incentives used in healthcare as well as which individuals are receiving the most creative incentive packages; technical, managerial, or executive employees. A similar survey was distributed in 2012 in order to compare and see what changes have taken place in the last five years in respect to the incentives and the incentive packages used in healthcare that were first identified in 2007.

The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) is a significant piece of discrimination legislation that merits ongoing managerial exploration. This civil rights legislature indicates that employers are expected to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with reported disabilities. The statute also indicates that employers can refuse to offer a reasonable accommodation if doing so creates an undue hardship on the organization. However, health care managers should exercise extreme caution when using undue hardship as a defense against providing reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities. This point should be duly noted by health care managers given that studies indicate that lawsuits alleging disability discrimination are on the rise. This is unfortunate given the costs of reasonable accommodations are typically miniscule.

A photochemical synthesis of [5]helicene employing a copper-based sensitizer 7 has been developed that avoids the disadvantages associated with the traditional UV light mediated method. The visible light mediated synthesis uses common glassware and a simple household light bulb without the competing formation of [2 + 2] cycloadducts, regioisomers, or the overoxidation product benzo[ghi]perylene 3. Preliminary results show that the reaction time can be significantly reduced through the use of a continuous flow strategy.
