1. Targeted microRNA Profiling in Gastric Cancer with Clinical Assessement

Abstract

Although several microRNAs (miRNAs) have been associated with gastric cancer there is still the need for identification of stable and validated biomarkers. The purpose of this study was to determine the alterations of a specific set of miRNA levels in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues to identify and validate gastric cancer-specific miRNAs using paired normal and tumor samples in an independent patient cohort. Gastric adenocarcinoma and normal stomach tissue samples of 20 patients who underwent surgery for gastric cancer were studied. The miRNA expression profiling was performed for eight miRNAs in a total of 40 tissue samples using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Six out of these eight miRNAs, namely, miR-375-3p, hsamiR-129-5p, miR-196a-5p, miR-376c-3p, miR-34c-5p and miR-767-5p, were significantly underexpressed in malignant tissues of our cohort. Furthermore, the expression of miR-662 although not significantly different between normal and tumor tissues, was inversely associated with age (r = −0.440, p = 0.049). The levels of miR-129-3p and miR34c-5p were correlated with an increase in the number of metastatic lymph nodes (r = 0.470, p = 0.036; r = 0.510, p = 0.020), while and miR-376c-3p levels were negatively associated with smoking (p = 0.043). In addition, we found that the variability of miRNA expression in cancerous tissues was lower than that in normal tissues. Alterations in miRNA expression in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues in comparison to healthy tissues of each individual serves for identification of consistent biomarkers that can be used for development of diagnostic tools for gastric cancer.

Abstract

Aim: we aimed to test the reliability of Canadian Assessment of Tomography for Childhood Head İnjury (CATCH) Rule iin children with minor head injury. Methods: It was performed prospectively on patients admitted due to minor head trauma. Patients were evaluated with CATCH rule and divided into 2 groups. Descriptive values are number and percentage for categorical data, mean ± standard deviation for age expressed in terms. Abstract

Introduction: Lithium is a mood stabilizer often used as a first-line treatment for bipolar disorder. Its narrow therapeutic window and changes in the absorption, distribution, and elimination of the drug following bariatric surgery have important implications regarding patient safety. Objectives: We present a 51-year-old female patient with bipolar disorder and a medical history of morbid obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hyperlipidemia, and essential hypertension. She was mentally stable on lithium 1200 mg/day, valproate 500 mg/day, and quetiapine 400 mg/day. She had undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. After a month, she showed up to the emergency room (ER) with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue. Gastroenteritis was suspected until the patient started showing neurological symptoms such as delirium, dysarthria, ataxia, chorea, and athetosis. Methods: The patient was monitored and received aggressive intravenous hydration (3000 cc of 0.9% serum isotonic) in the intensive care unit (ICU). She was prescribed intramuscular biperiden injection of 5 mg/ml/day, pheniramine 45.5 mg/2 ml/day, and lorazepam 1 mg/day. Her lithium levels were checked every six hours. She was agitated and disoriented for the first five days despite lithium levels being in the therapeutic range. On day six, her blood lithium levels dropped to 0.399 mmol/L. Her psychiatric examination revealed that she resumed cooperation and orientation, her dysarthria subsided. However, her thought content and attitude were grandiose, and she had a labile affect. We prescribed 5 mg/day of olanzapine routinely and 1 mg/day of lorazepam on a needed basis. The next day, her labile affect became calmer, and her sleep improved so she was discharged from the ICU and admitted to general surgery inpatient service, and olanzapine was titrated to 10 mg per day since she had elevated mood symptoms. Results: After 7 days of intravenous hydration and supportive treatment, her neurological symptoms completely subsided except for a fine tremor, which lasted for another 3 days and then ceased. She was clinically stabilized without further need for intervention. Her lithium level was 0.206 mmol/L before her discharge. Conclusions: We believe it is of utmost importance to build a consensus in guidelines and inform physicians about lithium toxicity and its symptoms after bariatric surgeries. We recommend a careful follow-up of the patient pre-and postoperatively. Preoperative psychiatric intervention includes decreasing the lithium dose gradually and discontinuing it. After the operation, lithium can be started with a much lower dose and may be increased by checking lithium levels every week for at least 6 weeks after the operation until the patient can digest solid food again, and then every 2 weeks for 6 months, and thereafter every month for one year. Abstract

Objective: Our targets in this research are; measuring the changes on hemodynamic parameters and methemoglobin levels non-invasively by using pulse co-oxymeter (Radical 7 Masimo USA), early diagnosis of methemoglobinemia which can be due to local anesthetic substance and preventing its complications, evaluation of changes on hemodynamic parameters due to methemoglobinemia on patients who were applied retroclavicular and axillary blocks on upper extremity surgeries. Material and Methods: 40 patients at the age of between 18-70 who will have a surgery of hand, wrist, forearm and elbow by Orthopedics and Traumatol-ogy Department in American Society of Anesthesiologists I-III groups are taken into this research after the patient's and ethics committee's approval are taken. Our research was done prospectively. Ultrasound guided retroclavicular or axillary block was applied to all patients with local anesthetic solution which was prepared as; bupivacaine 0.5% 1 mg/kg+prilocaine 2% 6 mg/kg+NaCl 0.9% until reaching the solution limit of 40 cc. Basal values of heart rate, diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, peripheric oxygen saturation, sensorial and motor block durations, perfusion index, and methemoglobin values and these values at the minutes of 10th, 20th, 30th were recorded. Results: When we compare the perfusion index values of the patients in research in both groups which were measured at different times; the difference between groups was insignificant on basal and 30th minute values but the difference was significant on 10th and 20th minute. In retroclavicular block and axillary block patients, the difference in methemoglobin levels which were measured on different times was significant. Conclusion: There was increase in methemoglobin levels that were measured by pulse-oxymeter in retroclavicular and axillary block patients but we thought that, this increasing was not enough to cause complication. Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to assess anxiety, depression, and knowledge level in postpartum women during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design and Methods: This cross‐sectional study was conducted on 212 postpartum women using a web‐based online survey in Ankara, Turkey. Findings: The prevalence of depression was 34.0%. The mean anxiety and COVID‐19 knowledge scores were 42.69 ± 9.93 and 9.69 ± 1.94, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the anxiety scores and depression status (p < 0.001) of women. There were statistically significant differences between fear about being infected with COVID‐19 for themselves (p = 0.01) and for babies (p = 0.01) and the postpartum depression (PPD). Practice Implications: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, early detection and appropriate and timely intervention to prevent and detect anxiety and PPD are crucial to the well‐being of a woman. Abstract

Introduction: This research was conducted to determine the opinions of breastfeeding mothers regarding breast milk banking. The aim of this study was to investigate the attitudes of breastfeeding mothers towards breast milk banking and to determine the potential impact of education on increasing knowledge and awareness of breast milk donation. Methods: The study was carried out with 303 breastfeeding mothers who presented to the healthy child and general pediatrics clinics between April 15, 2020 and September 1, 2020, for various reasons. After a brief information session on breast milk banking, a 20-question survey was conducted face-to-face with the mothers. The questions related to breast milk banking in the survey were prepared according to the literature. The first part of the survey included demographic questions about the mothers, and the second part included questions about breast milk banking. Results: The mean age was found to be 32.6±5.9 years. 67.7% of the mothers had heard of breast milk banking before, while 73.6% did not know if there was a breast milk bank in Turkey. Additionally, 61.7% of the mothers had a positive view of donating breast milk, and 76.2% stated that they could give their milk to another baby if there was a need. As the education level of the mothers increased and the number of pregnancies exceeded three, the rates of those who considered donating breast milk and those who stated that they could use donor milk for their own children if necessary were found to be statistically significant (p lt;0.05). Conclusion: As the education levels and number of pregnancies of the participating mothers increased, the rates of those considering donating breast milk also increased. The most significant difference of our study compared to other similar studies is that, with the brief information provided to the mothers during the study, their knowledge and awareness increased, and they indicated that they could donate their milk to breast milk banks and use donor milk for their own children when necessary. Providing education to mothers about breast milk banks in our country can have a positive impact on establishing breast milk banks. In addition, it is believed that increasing women's education levels is important not only for their own babies but also for providing milk to all high-risk babies in the society. 28. Phylogenetic Relationships Based on Morphological and Anatomical Characters on Ricotia L. Genus (Brassicaceae) Growing in Turkey

Abstract

The phylogenetic relation of Ricotia (Brassicaceae) genus, which is distributed throughout Turkey based on morphological and anatomic characters were investigated. A total of 36 characteristics of which 24 from morphological and 12 from anatomic studies were used in the cladistics analyses. Anatomical characters were studied from horizontal and superficial sections of the stems and leaves. Analysis of data set utilizing maximum parsimony criteria with Branch-and-Bound search algorithm yielded 87 parsimonious trees. Some of the branches obtained by majority rule consensus algorithm were supported by bootstrap analysis. Maximum parsimony tree formed based on morphological and anatomic data sets consisted of three clades. Clade 1 consisting of R. tenuifolia, R. sinuata and R. carnosula is a monophyletic group. This group was supported by a bootstrap value of 54%. Clade 2 is made up of R. davisiana, R. aucheri and R. varians and was supported with a bootstrap value of 54%.

Bu çalışmanın amacı aerodinamik (laboratuar) ve aerodinamik + radyasyon (açık hava) şartlarında kurumakta olan tuzlu ve tuzsuz toprak yüzeyinden meydana gelen buharlaşmayı Staple (1974) metodunu kullanarak tahmin etmek ve metotda buharlaşmayı daha hassas bir şekilde kestirilebilmesi için yapılabilecek iyileştirmeleri belirlemektir. Deneysel çalışmalarda, killi toprak örnekleri önce tatlı ve tuzlu (16 dS/m) su ile sature edilmiş, sonra laboratuar ve açık hava koşullarında buharlaşmaya maruz bırakılmıştır. Genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde, laboratuar ve açık hava koşulları için simüle edilen sonuçlar deneysel sonuçlarla iyi bir uyum göstermiştir (R2 = 0.90 civarında). Ancak denem başlangıcı ve sonunda bu uyum zayıftır. Bu zayıf uyum da modelde toprak ve atmosfer sıcaklığının eşit varsayılmasına bağlanmıştır. Model tuzlu ve tuzlu olmayan koşullar için yaklaşık olarak aynı sonuçları vermiştir. Toprak tekstürünü dikkate almak için ise matrik potansiyel-su içeriği ve su içeriği oransal nem ilişkileri her bir toprak tekstürü için tanımlanmalıdır

Abstract

We have synthesized YbFe1−xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.10) compounds by the conventional solid-state method. Structural and chemical analysis of the synthesized compounds have been carried out by XPS, SEM and EDX techniques. Frequency dependent (1–107 Hz) electrical properties including the loss tangent, real and imaginary part of impedance and resistivity have been examined in wide range temperature (from − 100 to 100 °C with 20 °C step) using Dielectric/Impedance Spectrometer (Novocontrol). The frequency dependent loss tangent plots have showed different dielectric relaxations peaks and the activation energies of the compounds have been calculated from those peaks using Arrhenius relation. The resistivity measurement results revealed that the increasing Co doping ratio decreases the resistivity of the compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

37. Tekirdağ İl Merkezindeki Yufka İmalathanelerinde Satışa Sunulan Böreklik Yufkaların Bazı Mikrobiyolojik Özelliklerinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Tekirdağ il merkezindeki imalathanelerde satılan böreklik yufkaların mikrobiyolojik özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada analiz için 20 adet yufka örneği kullanılmıştır. Yufka örneklerinin toplam mezofil aerob canlı bakteri ve küf sayıları sırasıyla 1x104 ’ten 8x108 kob/g’a ve 15’ten 1,5x105 kob/g’a değişmiştir. Altı örnekte maya tespit edilmemiş, geri kalan örneklerde maya sayısı 10’dan 1,5x104 kob/g’a değişmiştir. İki örnekte koliform grubu bakteri ve Staphylococcus aureus bulunmazken, diğer örneklerde koliform grubu bakteri sayısı 10 ile 3x104 kob/g, S. aureus sayısı 3,4x102 ile 6x106 kob/g arasında değişmiştir. Dört örnekte de E. coli tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda örneklerde Salmonella varlığına rastlanmamıştır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, üzerinde çalışılan yufka örneklerinin belirlenen mikrobiyolojik özellikler bakımından TS10443(Yufka-Böreklik Standardı)’uygun olmadığını, tüketici sağlığı bakımından tehlikeli olabileceğini göstermektedir. The microbiological characteristics of dough leaves for börek production(yufka) sold in yufka workshops in center of Tekirdağ Province were determined in this study. 20 yufka samples were used for analysis in the study. Total mesophilic aerobic bacteria and mould counts were changed from 1x104 to 8x108 (cfu/g) and from 15 to 1,5x105 respectively. In six samples, yeast wasn’t found, in the rest of the samples, was changed from 10 to 1,5x104 cfu/g. While in two samples, coliform bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus weren’t found, in the rest of the samples, coliform bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus counts were changed from 10 to 3x104 cfu/g and from 3,4x102 to 6x106 cfu/g respectively. E.coli was determined in four samples. According to analysis, Salmonella wasn’t found. As a result, this study showed that studied yufka samples weren’t suitable to TS 10445 ( The Standart of Dough leaves for börek production) in terms of microbiological properties and they might be dangerous for consumer health.

Abstract

In this paper, the energy performance of a flat-plate collector and a heat pipe evacuated tube collector exploited for domestic hot water production in the Mediterranean climate is compared. For this purpose, yearly data obtained from two field-trial solar waterheating systems are used. The selected systems are with forced circulation and installed near each other. The studied solar collectors are installed on the roof with the same slope angle of 45° and the surface azimuthal angle of 10°. The installed surface area of theflat-plate solar collector is 4.41 m2, whereas for the heat pipe evacuated tube collector is 1.5 m2. The annual irradiation on solar collector plane was 1,456 kWh/m2year. Obtained results showed that the annual solar yield for the flat-plate collector was 664 kWh/m2year, whereas for the heat pipe evacuated tube collector was 885 kWh/m2year. The annual average collector efficiencies were 0.494 and 0.62, respectively.

Abstract

The microbiological quality of meat products is characterized by the presence of aerobes, facultative anaerobes, psychrotrophs and mezophiles which are responsible for spoilage and pathogenic bacteria. Producers should be careful about the microbiological quality and contamination of meat products in all processing stages including production and consumption in order to protect consumer health. One of these processing stages is selling. The aim of this research was to determine the hygienic quality of the packaged (by vacuum packaging) and unpackaged (sausages which have been packaged in modified atmosphere packages as 3000 grams and sold in portions/grams according to customer demand) frankfurters sausages sold in Tekirdag. The samples was investigated for Staphylococcus aureus, yeasts and moulds, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella spp. in order to observe their hygienic quality. In general, the unpackaged sausage samples had higher S. aureus and yeast and mould counts than the frankfurters sausages should not be sold in unpackaged form because of low hygienic quality. Abstract

Amyand's hernia is defined as the presence of a normal or inflamed appendix vermiformis within the inguinal hernia sac and was first described by Claudius Amyand. Most cases of Amyand's hernia are seen on the right side associated with the normal anatomy of the appendix. Diagnosis is usually made during hernia surgery. In this study, a rare case is reported of a patient operated on for left-side incarcerated inguinal hernia and determined with acute appendicitis within the hernia sac.

Abstract

In this research, black grapes from types of Ma latya region were used. Hardaliye occur of samples produced by applying traditional method, pasteurized and produced by applying traditional method, inoculated Lactobacillus plantarum as starter into the crushed grapes pasteurized and pasteurized and inoculated Lactobacillus plantarum as starter into the crushed grapes pasteurized. A week after completion of fermentation, some physicochemical, microbiological and sensory properties of the final product were analyzed. Samples were kept in cold weather (4°C for a periodof 1 yea rand again a year later were analyzed. Asa result of analysis, changes in the physicochemical microbiological and sensory properties of samples we re detected. Decrease in pH, brix, total phenolic, monomeric anthocyaninsandthenumberof microorganizms; increase in acidity, flies acid and levels of invert sugar of samples was observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this study, some microbiological properties of ground black pepper, red pepper, ground red pepper and powdered cinnamon sold in Tekirdag market were investigated. The samples were supplied in packaged, unpackaged and irradiated and packaged forms. As a result of the analysis the total mesophilic aerobic bacteria counts of red pepper and ground red pepper samples are higher than those of the other spice samples. Total mesophilic aerobic spore-forming bacteria was determined in all irradiated samples. However coliform group bacteria, S. aureus and mold were determined in a few samples, E.coli and yeast were not found in none of them. As reported in previous studies, spore-forming bacteria are more resistant to irradiation than vegetative forms. S. aureus counts were higher than the limitation of spice communique in Turkish Food Codex. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study primarily aimed to evaluate whether the serum CCL-18 level differentiates the frequent exacerbator COPD phenotype from infrequent exacerbators. The secondary aim was to investigate whether serum CCL-18 level is a risk factor for exacerbations requiring hospitalization. Materials and methods: Clinically stable COPD patients and participants with smoking history but normal spirometry (NSp) were recruited for the study. Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale, COPD Assessment Test, spirometry, and 6-min walking test were performed. Serum CCL-18 levels were measured with a commercial ELISA Kit.
