Understanding the characteristics of the vaginal microbiota of our patients allows us to carry out both a personalized therapeutic approach and a closer follow-up in those with microbiota susceptible to dysbiosis. This trial pursues the analysis of the vaginal microbiota of premenopausal women and its fluctuations within a four-week follow-up period. Vaginal samples of 76 fertile women were taken at a baseline visit and at a final visit (day 28 +/- 5). To perform a phylogenetic study, we employed massive sequencing techniques to detect the 16S rRNA gene of the vaginal microbiota. The most prevalent vaginal microbial community was type I (34.87%), dominated by Lactobacillus crispatus. Vaginal microbial community types II (Lactobacillus gasseri) and V (Lactobacillus jensenii) were underrepresented in our population. When repeating the sampling process four weeks later, 75% of our patients maintained their initial bacterial community. In the follicular phase, the most recurrent microbiota was type III (Lactobacillus iners); in the periovulatory phase, types III and IV (microbial diversity); finally, in the luteal phase, the most frequent type was IV. The most prevalent vaginal bacterial community in our population was dominated by L. crispatus. The vaginal microbiota was resistant to changes in its bacterial community in 75% of our patients, even between consecutive menstrual cycles.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory skin disease with a high impact on the comfort of those who are affected and long-term treated with corticosteroids with limited efficacy and a high prevalence of relapses. Because of the limited effectiveness of these treatments, new strategies for recovery from AD lesions are continually being explored. In this article, we describe the gut microbiome changes achieved in a recently published clinical trial with the probiotic formulation Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CECT 8145, Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347, and Lacticaseibacillus casei CECT 9104 (formerly Lactobacillus casei CECT 9104), showing a significant improvement in SCORAD (scoring atopic dermatitis) index in children (4-17 years) with AD (Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT02585986). The present gut microbiome post hoc study showed no significant changes in diversity (Shannon and Simpson indexes) after probiotic consumption. In the probiotic group, genera Bacteroides, Ruminococcus, and Bifidobacterium significantly increased their levels while Faecalibacterium decreased, compared to the placebo group. Faecalibacterium showed the highest presence and significant positive correlation with AD severity (SCORAD index), whereas Abyssivirga, Bifidobacterium, and Lactococcus were inversely correlated. The results suggest that the consumption of the probiotic formulation here assayed modulates the gut microbiome with significant changes in genera Bacteroides and Faecalibacterium. In turn, the improvement in SCORAD correlates with a decrease in Faecalibacterium and an increase in Bifidobacterium, among others.

Controversial results exist on mid-term effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy on hypertension remission. The aim of the present systematic review was to study 5-year hypertension remission after both procedures. One-year hypertension remission and SBP and DBP pressure change at 1 and 5 years after both surgical techniques were also evaluated. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). Thirty-two articles were included (six randomized controlled trials, 18 cohort and eight case-control studies). The proportion of patients with hypertension remission was greater for those treated with gastric bypass compared with sleeve gastrectomy at 5 years (RR = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.07-1.48) and 1 year (RR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.06-1.21). Gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy did not differ in terms of SBP or DBP change. Patients treated with gastric bypass present a higher hypertension remission rate at 1 and 5 years.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a rare genetic disorder associated with impaired body composition, hyperphagia, and excessive weight gain. Strict dietary restrictions from an early age is crucial to prevent or delay the early onset of obesity, which is the main driver of comorbidities in these patients. The aim of this study was to identify dietary and gut microbiota components closely linked to weight status of these patients. We studied a cohort of children and adolescents with genetic diagnosis of Prader-Willi syndrome (N = 31), in which we determined adiposity by Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and dietary composition with 4-day food records. Furthermore, we obtained fecal samples to assess microbiota composition by 16S sequencing. Multivariate regression models showed that body mass index standard deviation score (BMI-SDS) and body fat mass were directly associated with saturated fat intake and meat consumption, and inversely associated with fruit consumption. Furthermore, the gut microbiome from normal weight patients was characterized by higher phylogenetic diversity compared to those overweight or obese, with differential abundance of several genera, including Alistipes, Klebsiella, and Murimonas. Notably, Alistipes abundance was inversely correlated to adiposity, lipid and glucose homeostasis parameters, and meat intake. Our results suggest that limiting meat and increasing fruit intake might be beneficial for body weight management in children and adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome.

International audience; A numerical investigation has been conducted by DNS to investigate the coupling between the internal and the external flows and their respective efects on mass transfer from atranslating droplet in an immiscible phase. Low to moderate Reynolds flows have beeninvestigated 01 < Re < 100. On the first part of this paper, eforts have been made tosuggest new correlations of the drag coefficient and the angle of separation angle in termsof Re and the viscosity ratio . In the second part, computations were focused on flowparameters influence on the conjugate mass transfer and especially the evolution of the Sherwood number. The results has been compared with available experimental and numericaldata. Moreover, through a parametric study, the effct of relevant physical parameters onthe transfer process is investigated. An interesting behavior of Sh is evidenced for low Henry coefficient in a convective dominant process.

Wire-mesh sensors have been developed to measure gas-liquid distributions in two-phase flows at high speed. In a wire-mesh sensor, a wire electrode grid is formed in the flow cross-section by wires running in two planes of a small axial distance. Its functional principle is based on the measurement of either electrical conductivity (conductivity wire-mesh sensor) or relative permittivity (capacitance wire-mesh sensor) in the electrode crossings. Repeated scanning gives high speed sequences of cross-sectional phase indicator distributions. The sampling frequency can be very high. Thus, for a wire- mesh sensor with 2 × 16 wire electrodes (16 × 16 crossings or image pixel in a square cross-section) 10,000 frames per second can be scanned. The high acquisition speed together with the small wire spacing of typically 3 to 4 mm allows to image gas bubbles in many slices, such that the size and shape of the bubbles and the interfacial area can be resolved, but only in case of very large bubbles. The technical challenge of wire-mesh sensor imaging is the high amount of data, which need to be analyzed by automated computer algorithms. We used the wire-mesh sensor to study the flow conditions upstream a swirling device, which is used in the oil and gas industry as a separator. Our particular objective was the analysis of the correlation of upstream flow patterns with the shape of the swirling gas cores downstream the swirl. The upstream flow regimes depend on the gas and liquid superficial velocities and can range from bubble flow, via churn flow towards annular flow in vertical pipe orientation. The flow pattern and especially its transition have an impact on the shape and interface stability of the swirling gas core downstream. Hence the wire-mesh data can be used as a predictor for expected hollow vortex variations and can be used for automatic control of the swirling device. To assess the relationship between wire-mesh data and vortex shape we used a high-speed camera to record the downstream interface development at 200 Hz frame rate. As automatic control requires a good process model we intend to use an original computational fluid dynamics (CFD) coupling a Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method for interface resolution and an Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) for the separator description. For that we performed first CFD studies which give key indications of required model improvements and future numerical research work.

INTRODUCTION: Results of the effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (GB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels are controversial. Moreover, previous meta-analyses focused on global dyslipidemia remission, but did not include the separate remission rates of the different lipid fractions. Hence, the aim of the present meta-analysis was to compare the outcomes (concentration change and remission rates) of GB and SG on diverse lipid disorders one year postbariatric surgery (BS). EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: An exhaustive electronic search carried out on MedLine, Embase and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Central) until July 2016 yielded 2621 records, of which 17, totaling 4699 obese patients with one-year follow-up after BS were included in the meta-analysis. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: GB was superior to SG in terms of total cholesterol (mean difference = 19.77 mg/dL, 95% CI: 11.84-27.69) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (mean difference: 19.29 mg/dL, 95% CI: 11.93-26.64) decreases as well as in hypercholesterolemia remission (RR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.27-1.61). No differences were found between GB and SG in terms of HDL cholesterol increase or triglyceride concentration change after surgery, as well as in hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL remission rates. CONCLUSIONS: The effect of GB on total and LDL cholesterol concentration decreases and remission was greater than that of SG, whereas no differences were observed with respect to HDL cholesterol and triglyceride concentration evolution. Conclusions cannot be drawn from hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL remission rates based on this metaanalysis.

Since the last 5-10 years the relevance of the gut microbiome on different intestinal illnesses has been revealed. Recent findings indicate the effect of gut microbiome on certain dermatological diseases such as atopic dermatitis. However, data on other skin diseases such as psoriasis are limited. This is the first time attempting to reveal the gut microbiome composition of psoriatic patients with a prospective study including a group of patients with plaque psoriasis, analyzing their gut microbiome and the relationship between the microbiome composition and bacterial translocation. The microbiome of a cohort of 52 psoriatic patients (PASI score >= 6) was obtained by 16s rRNA massive sequencing with MiSeq platform (Illumina inc, San Diego) with an average of 85,000 sequences per sample. The study of the gut microbiome and enterotype shows from the first time a specific "psoriatic core intestinal microbiome" that clearly differs from the one present in healthy population. In addition, those psoriatic patients classified as belonging to enterotype 2 tended to experience more frequent bacterial translocation and higher inflammatory status (71%) than patients with other enterotypes (16% for enterotype 1; and 21% for enterotype 3).

A new prototype of Electronic Nose instrument, Multisensory Odor Olfactory System MOOSY32, with a processing method based on a multivariate classification analysis was used to assess different postharvest and storage treatments effects to Salustiana oranges. The analysis method is based on the measurement of the volatile compounds produced under different environmental and operational conditions. The Electronic Nose system revealed that orange juice flavor changes even when juices are analyzed right after each treatment and fruits are stored under refrigerated conditions. The instrument was able to detect even small changes in the aromatic pattern of the juices, confirming that the packing line itself is able to cause perceptible changes in the flavor. This can be a new and important finding in the Salustiana orange treatment that can lead to a significant improvement of fruits quality on the markets.
