The effectiveness of dehydration and utilization processes for citric acid dewatered sludge is hampered by its high concentrations of polysaccharides, proteins, and water-binding properties of microbial extracellular polymers (EPS). This research explores the efficacy and mechanisms involved in extracting water from this type of sludge using biological drying technology, with varying rates of ventilation. Especially pertinent was the use of low ventilation rates as control variables. Our results suggest that a scheduled intermittent ventilation at lower rates allows for the most efficient removal of water, achieving a rate of 41.71 % within eight days, according to the zero-order kinetic model. Remarkably, the peak temperature registered was 60 °C, reaching this threshold in just 0.1 days and maintaining high temperatures for approximately 5.9 days. Component analysis of organic matter illustrated a preferential degradation process for lipids under these ventilation conditions which is pivotal for releasing and transforming bound water for efficient extraction, as well as facilitating the breakdown of easily hydrolysable materials. Further, polysaccharide/protein (EPS) decomposition contributed to water removal, though less significantly. The periodic ventilation strategy allowed for the maximum cumulative temperature to be sustained, demonstrating superior efficiency in harnessing bio-generated heat (82.77 % for water evaporation), resulting in dry sludge suitable for self-sustained combustion at relatively low cost ($26.61/t). Highlighted by this study is the considerable potential of energy-efficient ventilation methods in the biological drying treatment of citric acid fermented sludge and similar industrial waste materials. Quercus ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis cupules extract was utilized to investigate its effect on preventing browning in potatoes. Potato samples were immersed in three different solutions: distilled water (WP), Quercus extract (QP), and citric acid (CP) solution (10 mM). The colour parameters, polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activities, malondialdehyde, and hydrogen peroxide content, and ABTS radical scavenging activity of immersed potato samples were measured on days 0, 1, 2, 5, and 7. The a* values of the treatment groups were significantly (p < 0.001) affected by the storage time. The redness of the samples significantly increased over time in treatments WP, QP, and CP. A significant (p < 0.05) correlation was found between Δa* value and BI. The polyphenol oxidase activity of WP and QP groups significantly increased on day 2, and the change in the QP group was different from the other groups. At the beginning of storage and during the subsequent two-day storage period the QP group had a lower hydrogen peroxide level than the other treatments. The research conducted so far on the chemical mechanisms of trees' defence against foliophages has not uncovered the chemical compounds biosynthesized by plants that are essential for these mechanisms. The objective of this study was to identify a chemical indicator for the presence of the pine beauty moth in Pinus sylvestris stands. Fresh needled shoots were collected from the crowns of pine trees in stands where the pine beauty moth tends to occur in large numbers, as well as from control stands. Total phenolic contents, total flavonoids contents, total chlorophyll content, terpene compounds, phenolic compound concentration, LMWOAs, sugar content, and colour analysis were conducted. Chlorophyll content, the presence of Panolis flammea in forest stands, and the colour of pine needles were discovered to be related. Variable L* correlated positively with the concentrations of chlorophyll a and b. In pine needles that were not attacked by the pine beauty moth, significantly higher concentrations of 4‐hydroxybenzoic acid, salicylic acid, chlorogenic acid, syringic acid, quercitin, and rutin were found, with the first compound having the most significant effect (4‐hydroxybenzoic acid). Ferric ion (Fe3+) serves as an essential and indispensable inorganic element in various biological process. Excess Fe3+ is harmful for biological systems and human health. Herein, highly sensitive carbon quantum dots (Fe-CQDs) for ferric ions were synthesized by a high-efficiency, one-step hydrothermal route utilizing L-arginine and citric acid. The prepared Fe-CQDs exhibited good water solubility, high photostability, and bright blue florescence with relatively high quantum yields (QYs) over 21.33% and a Stokes shift exceeding 100 nm. The functionalized Fe-CQDs offer rapid, sensitive, and selective recognition of Fe3+ with a linear relationship from 0.6 to 80 μM and a low detection limit of 0.2 μM. Moreover, the synthesized Fe-CQDs illustrated strong anti-interference properties in samples and buffer solutions. The developed sensor demonstrated high biocompatibility and was successfully applied for intracellular Fe3+ determination in SHSY5Y and HT22 cells, illustrating excellent imaging application. Background: Aspergillus tubingensis is a citric acid-producing fungus that can utilize sugars in hydrolysate of lignocellulosic biomass such as sugarcane bagasse and, unlike A. niger, does not produce mycotoxins. To date, no attempt has been made to model its metabolism at genome scale. Results: Here, we utilized the whole-genome sequence (34.96 Mb length) and the measured biomass composition to reconstruct a genome-scale metabolic model (GSMM) of A. tubingensis DJU120 strain. The model, named iMK1652, consists of 1652 genes, 1657 metabolites and 2039 reactions distributed over four cellular compartments. The model has been extensively curated manually. This included removal of dead-end metabolites and generic reactions, addition of secondary metabolite pathways and several transporters. Several mycotoxin synthesis pathways were either absent or incomplete in the genome, providing a genomic basis for the non-toxinogenic nature of this species. The model was further refined based on the experimental phenotypic microarray (Biolog) data. The model closely captured DJU120 fermentative data on glucose, xylose, and phosphate consumption, as well as citric acid and biomass production, showing its applicability to capture citric acid fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysate. This experiment aimed to investigate the impact of malic acid (MA) and citric acid (CA) on the nutritional composition, fermentation quality, rumen degradation rate, and microbial diversity of a mixture of apple pomace and corn protein powder during ensiling. The experiment used apple pomace and corn protein powder as raw materials, with four groups: control group (CON), malic acid treatment group (MA, 10 g/kg), citric acid treatment group (CA, 10 g/kg), and citric acid + malic acid treatment group (MA, 10 g/kg + CA, 10 g/kg). Each group has 3 replicates, with 2 repetitions in parallel, subjected to mixed ensiling for 60 days. The results indicated: (1) Compared to the CON group, the crude protein content significantly increased in the MA, CA, and MA + CA groups (p < 0.05), with the highest content observed in the MA + CA group. The addition of MA and CA effectively reduced the water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content (p < 0.05). Simultaneously, the CA group showed a decreasing trend in NDFom and hemicellulose content (p = 0.08; p = 0.09). (2) Compared to the CON group, the pH significantly decreased in the MA, CA, and MA + CA groups (p < 0.01), and the three treatment groups exhibited a significant increase in lactic acid and acetic acid content (p < 0.01). The quantity of lactic acid bacteria increased significantly (p < 0.01), with the MA + CA group showing a more significant increase than the MA and CA groups (p < 0.05). (3) Compared to the CON group, the in situ dry matter disappearance (ISDMD) significantly increased in the MA, CA, and MA + CA groups (p < 0.05). All three treatment groups showed highly significant differences in in situ crude protein disappearance (ISCPD) compared to the CON group (p < 0.01). (4) Good's Coverage for all experimental groups was greater than 0.99, meeting the conditions for subsequent sequencing. Compared to the CON group, the Shannon index significantly increased in the CA group (p < 0.01), and the Simpson index increased significantly in the MA group (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the Chao index among the three treatment groups and the CON group (p > 0.05). At the genus level, the abundance of Lentilactobacillus in the MA, CA, and MA + CA groups was significantly higher than in the control group (p < 0.05). PICRUSt prediction results indicated that the metabolic functional microbial groups in the CA and MA treatment groups were significantly higher than in the CON group (p < 0.05), suggesting that the addition of MA or CA could reduce the loss of nutritional components such as protein and carbohydrates in mixed ensilage. In conclusion, the addition of malic acid and citric acid to a mixture of apple pomace and corn protein powder during ensiling reduces nutritional losses, improves fermentation quality and rumen degradation rate, enhances the diversity of the microbial community in ensiled feed, and improves microbial structure. Development of novel biodosimetry assays and medical countermeasures is needed to obtain a level of radiation preparedness in the event of malicious or accidental mass exposures to ionizing radiation (IR). For biodosimetry, metabolic profiling with mass spectrometry (MS) platforms has identified several small molecules in easily accessible biofluids that are promising for dose reconstruction. As our microbiome has profound effects on biofluid metabolite composition, it is of interest how variation in the host microbiome may affect metabolomics based biodosimetry. Here, we 'knocked out' the microbiome of male and female C57BL/6 mice (Abx mice) using antibiotics and then irradiated (0, 3, or 8 Gy) them to determine the role of the host microbiome on biofluid radiation signatures (1 and 3 d urine, 3 d serum). Biofluid metabolite levels were compared to a sham and irradiated group of mice with a normal microbiome (Abx-con mice). To compare post-irradiation effects in urine, we calculated the Spearman's correlation coefficients of metabolite levels with radiation dose. For selected metabolites of interest, we performed more detailed analyses using linear mixed effect models to determine the effects of radiation dose, time, and microbiome depletion. Serum metabolite levels were compared using an ANOVA. Several metabolites were affected after antibiotic administration in the tryptophan and amino acid pathways, sterol hormone, xenobiotic and bile acid pathways (urine) and lipid metabolism (serum), with a post-irradiation attenuative effect observed for Abx mice. In urine, dose×time interactions were supported for a defined radiation metabolite panel (carnitine, hexosamine-valine-isoleucine [Hex-V-I], creatine, citric acid, and Nε,Nε,Nε-trimethyllysine [TML]) and dose for N1-acetylspermidine, which also provided excellent (AUROC ≥ 0.90) to good (AUROC ≥ 0.80) sensitivity and specificity according to the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUROC) analysis. In serum, a panel consisting of carnitine, citric acid, lysophosphatidylcholine (LysoPC) (14:0), LysoPC (20:3), and LysoPC (22:5) also gave excellent to good sensitivity and specificity for identifying post-irradiated individuals at 3 d. Although the microbiome affected the basal levels and/or post-irradiation levels of these metabolites, their utility in dose reconstruction irrespective of microbiome status is encouraging for the use of metabolomics as a novel biodosimetry assay. Currently, one of the main causes of death in the world is cancer; therefore, it is urgent to obtain a precocious diagnosis, as well as boost research and development of new potential treatments, which should be more efficient and much less invasive for the patient. Magnetic hyperthermia (MH) is an emerging cancer therapy using nanoparticles, which has proved to be effective when combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and/or surgery, or even by itself, depending on the type and location of the tumor's cells. This article presents the results obtained by using a previously developed economic homemade hyperthermia device with different types of magnetite nanoparticles, with sizes ranging between 12 ± 5 and 36 ± 11 nm and presenting different shapes (spherical and cubic particles). These magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized by three different methods (co-precipitation, solvothermal and hydrothermal processes), with their final form being naked, or possessing different kinds of covering layers (polyethylene glycol (PEG) or citric acid (CA)). The parameters used to characterize the heating by magnetic hyperthermia, namely the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and the intrinsic loss power (ILP), have been obtained by two different methods. Among other results, these experiments allowed for the determination of which synthesized MNPs showed the best performance concerning hyperthermia. From the results, it may be concluded that, as expected, the shape of MNPs is an important factor, as well as the time that the MNPs can remain suspended in solution (which is directly related to the concentration and covering layer of the MNPs). The MNPs that gave the best results in terms of the SAR were the cubic particles covered with PEG, while in terms of total heating the spherical particles covered with citric acid proved to be better. • The multi-step method aims to increase the number of incineration periods. • The new method requires a lower dosage of calcium-based additives. • The difference in P species may be due to amorphous Ca-P and Ca 3 (PO 4) 2. Due to the irreplaceable nature of phosphorus (P) in biological growth and the shortage of P rock, it is necessary to recover P from waste, such as sludge ash. P-containing products were prepared using sludge ash and calcium-based additives (CaCO 3 and eggshell). In addition, the effects of different incineration methods (one-step method (OSM) and multi-step method (MSM)), additive doses, and incineration temperature on the P content and species in the products were investigated. The results indicated that as the dose of calcium-based additives increased, total P (TP) content in P-containing products reduced, apatite P (AP) content increased, non-apatite P (NAIP) content declined, and P solubility in citric acid content decreased. The amount of AP increased, NAIP reduced, and P solubility in citric acid decreased as the incineration temperature climbed. Although P in P-containing products prepared by OSM and MSM changed in a similar way at different additive doses and temperatures, P-containing products prepared by MSM had at least a 6.1% increase in P solubility in citric acid. Compared with OSM, MSM could save 10% of calcium-based additives when reaching the maximum AP value. Additionally, pure materials were employed to investigate how P species changed during the incineration procedure. The advantage of the MSM-prepared product over the OSM-prepared product may be explained by the high concentration of Ca 3 (PO 4) 2 and low concentration of amorphous calcium bound P (Ca-P). There is growing demand for separation of 90Y carrier free from 90Sr coexisting to produce high purity 90Y essential for radiopharmaceutical uses. Thus, in this context the sorption profiles of Y3+ and Sr2+ from aqueous solutions containing diethylenetriaminepenta acetic acid (DTPA), ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid (EDTA), acetic acid, citric acid, or NaCl onto Chelex-100 (anion ion exchange) solid sorbent were critically studied for developing an efficient and low-cost methodology for selective separation of Y3+ from Sr2+ ions (1.0 × 10−5 M). Batch experiments displayed relative chemical extraction percentage (98 ± 5.4%) of Y3+ from aqueous acetic acid solution onto Chelex-100 (anion ion exchanger), whereas Sr2+ species showed no sorption. Hence, a selective separation of Y3+ from its parent 90Sr2+ has been established based upon percolation of the aqueous solution of Y3+ and Sr2+ ions containing acetic acid at pH 1-2 through Chelex-100 sorbent packed column at a 2 mL min−1 flow rate. Y3+ species were retained quantitatively while Sr2+ ions were not sorbed and passed through the sorbent packed column without extraction. The sorbed Y3+ species were then recovered from the sorbent packed column with HNO3 (1.0 M) at a 1.0 mL min−1 flow rate. A dual extraction mechanism comprising absorption associated to "weak-base anion exchanger" and "solvent extraction" of Y3+ as (YCl6)3− and an extra part for "surface adsorption" of Y3+ by the sorbent is proposed. The established method was validated by measuring the radiochemical (99.2 ± 2 1%), radionuclide purity and retardation factor ( R f = 10.0 ± 0.1 cm) of 90Y3+ recovered in the eluate. Ultimately, the sorbent packed column also presented high stability for reusing 2-3 cycles without drop in its efficiency (±5%) towards Y3+ uptake and relative chemical recovery. Although they possess a high working voltage and environmental compatibility, and are low in cost with abundant resources, the poor cycling performance and rapid capacity attenuation of LiMn2O4 cathodes at high temperature restrict their extensive application. In this study, LiMn2O4 materials are synthesized by a simple rheology-assisted solid-phase method using citric acid as an additive. The citric acid improves the uniformity of the mixed raw materials, resulting in a reduction in particle agglomeration. Consequently, the synthesized LiMn2O4 shows an initial capacity of 117.4 mA h g−1 with a capacity retention of 79.50% at 2C after 300 cycles and 54.78% of the initial discharge capacity at 20C. A mutual extension of an increasing demand for LiFePO 4 (LFP) is the need to develop a synthesis technique that enables improved particle morphology and size control at different scales. In this study, the polyol method was used for this purpose and modified to allow in-situ interventions, which, in turn, increased flexibility in particle design. Ethylene glycol was used as a reaction medium, and pure, porous, hierarchical LFP nanoparticles were synthesized at the lowest temperature reported in the literature. The primary and secondary particle size and morphology could be altered almost independently by controlling the amount and the addition sequence of the ascorbic acid (AA) and citric acid (CA). It was possible to control the particle features at different scales after the individual and combined effects of the acids were revealed. Particles with equiaxed small primaries (∼20 nm) and a mild aspect ratio in the secondaries (∼1.5) led to tap densities of 1.98 g/cm3, which is the highest value reported in the literature. Even though the heat treatment applied in this work had limitations in inducing a fully graphitized layer of carbon on LFPs, the added boost from the increased tap densities was observable in the high volumetric discharge capacities. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of a solution including honey, ethyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, distilled water and citric acid (HEFS) as a preservative for rabbit cadavers, serving as a potential substitute for formaldehyde. The cadavers underwent preservation using three distinct solutions: 10% formalin, 35% alcohol and HEFS. The cadavers were subjected to a total of four sampling events, occurring at 4‐month intervals, in order to collect specimens for microanatomical, histological, microbiological, mycological, colourimetric, texture and odour analysis. In terms of hardness, suitability for dissection and joint mobility metrics, the cadavers fixed with HEFS had superior qualities to those fixed with formalin. The fixation quality of HEFS for histological analyses was deemed acceptable, except kidney and intestinal tissues. In texture analysis, differences only in the elasticity parameter (p < 0.05) in the same sampling period. A total of 10 (13.9) bacteria isolates were identified among which, Metasolibacillus meyeri 3 (30%) was predominantly followed by Staphylococcus aureus 2 (20%), Bacillus siamensis, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudarthrobacter oxydans, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis with a proportion of 1 (10%), respectively, by both microbiological and molecular analysis. However, no anaerobic bacteria and fungi were isolated. A considerable percentage of the students had the perception that HEFS was appropriate for utilization in laboratory settings due to its absence of unpleasant odours and detrimental impact on ocular and respiratory functions. The improper disposal of plastics is a growing concern due to increasing global environmental problems such as the rise of CO2 emissions, diminishing petroleum sources, and pollution, which necessitates the research and development of biodegradable materials as an alternative to conventional packaging materials. The purpose of this research was to analyse the properties of biodegradable polymer blends of thermoplastic potato starch (TPS) and polylactide, (PLA) without and with the addition of citric acid (CA) as a potential compatibilizer and plasticizer. The prepared blends were subjected to a comprehensive physicochemical characterization, which included: FTIR-ATR spectroscopy, morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), determination of thermal and mechanical properties by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), water vapour permeability (WVP), as well as biodegradation testing in soil. The obtained results indicate an improvement in adhesion between the TPS and PLA phases due to the addition of citric acid, better homogeneity of the structure, and greater compatibility of the polymer blends, leading to better thermal, mechanical and barrier properties of the studied biodegradable TPS/PLA polymer blends. After conducting the comprehensive research outlined in this paper, it has been determined that the addition of 5 wt.% of citric acid serves as an effective compatibilizer and plasticizer. This supplementation achieves an optimal equilibrium across thermal, mechanical, morphological, and barrier properties, while also promoting material sustainability through biodegradation. In conclusion, it can be stated that the use of thermoplastic starch in TPS/PLA blends accelerates the biodegradation of PLA as a slowly biodegradable polymer. While the addition of citric acid offers significant advantages for TPS/PLA blends, further research is needed to optimize the formulation and processing parameters to achieve the desired balance between mechanical strength, thermal and barrier properties and biodegradability. This study delves into the physicochemical properties of inorganic hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hybrid hydroxyapatite–chitosan (HAp-CTS) granules, also gold-enriched, which can be used as aggregates in biomicroconcrete-type materials. The impact of granules' surface modifications with citric acid (CA) or polyethylene glycol (PEG) was assessed. Citric acid modification induced increased specific surface area and porosity in inorganic granules, contrasting with reduced parameters in hybrid granules. PEG modification resulted in a slight increase in specific surface area for inorganic granules and a substantial rise for hybrid granules with gold nanoparticles. Varied effects on open porosity were observed based on granule type. Microstructural analysis revealed increased roughness for inorganic granules post CA modification, while hybrid granules exhibited smoother surfaces. Novel biomicroconcretes, based on α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) calcium phosphate cement and developed granules as aggregates within, were evaluated for compressive strength. Compressive strength assessments showcased significant enhancement with PEG modification, emphasizing its positive impact. Citric acid modification demonstrated variable effects, depending on granule composition. The incorporation of gold nanoparticles further enriched the multifaceted approach to enhancing calcium phosphate-based biomaterials for potential biomedical applications. This study demonstrates the pivotal role of surface modifications in tailoring the physicochemical properties of granules, paving the way for advanced biomicroconcretes with improved compressive strength for diverse biomedical applications. Soft cheeses are coagulated milk products obtained through acidification or applying a combination of acids and heat. In this research, in order to improve technological characteristics, the effects of different coagulants (salt and acids) and process parameters (temperature and homogenization pressure) on the organoleptic, textural, and functional characteristics of soft (unripened) cheese were investigated. The results revealed significant differences between cheeses coagulated with acid and mineral salt regarding protein recovery, fat content, and moisture content (p <.05). Acidic coagulants (74%–94%) resulted in higher cheese yield compared to mineral salt (66%–88%). Texture analysis indicated that the cheese produced with acetic acid had a firmer texture, while samples treated with citric acid exhibited better cohesiveness. Cheeses produced with minerals displayed more acceptable organoleptic characteristics regarding flavor, odor, and texture. To increase the oxidative stability of flaxseed oil (FSO), combinations of two synergists (vitamin C, citric acid) and five distinct antioxidants (SDG (Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside), tea polyphenol (TP), resveratrol (RE), caffeic acid (CA), and vitamin E (VE)) were assessed. Based on the accelerated oxidation reaction at 65°C, the antioxidant effect was assessed for changes in the shelf‐life, fatty acid composition, peroxide value (POV), volatile and sterol contents of FSO. The SDG multi‐antioxidant combination, which included 0.01% SDG, 0.01% TP, and 0.02% vitamin C, demonstrated the strongest antioxidative qualities, according to the data; the POV of FSO dropped by 57.5% as compared to the blank group. Additionally, the SDG multi‐antioxidant combination outperformed 0.02% TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone), increased the shelf‐life of FSO from 295 to 761 days, and postponed the deterioration of sterols and unsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, the production of ketones and the degradation of esters and acids were diminished. In summary, the combination of SDG‐TP and vitamin C as antioxidants can be an effective natural alternative to artificial antioxidants to extend the shelf‐life of FSO. An anthracene thiazole based Schiff base L was synthesized and employed for fluorescence switch-on detection of maleic acid in aqueous DMSO. The non-fluorescent L (10–5 M) showed an instantaneous and selective fluorescence enhancement at 506 nm upon interaction with maleic acid (10–5 M). Other potential carboxylic acids (10–5 M), such as malic acid, citric acid, acetic acid, cinnamic acid, tartaric acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, oxalic acid and malonic acid failed to alter the chromo-fluorogenic properties of L. Probe L can be employed to detect maleic acid down to 2.74 × 10–6 M. The probe L showed good linearity from 2.97 to 6.87 µM. BACKGROUND: Potato is the most important non‐grain crop worldwide, whose quality characteristics are always affected by temporal and spatial variability. Knowledge of the performance consistency of quality characteristics over long periods could prove very important to identify which quality traits are less variable over time, and therefore provide greater guarantees of stability. In this research, variations in physicochemical and nutritional traits of tubers over five consecutive growing seasons of two potato genotypes (Arizona and Vogue) were monitored in two locations. RESULTS: Although qualitative performances of genotypes fluctuated across the seasons in both locations, two physicochemical traits (pH and dry matter content) and starch content showed less variability throughout the five seasons compared to total soluble solids and most of the nutritional traits (namely reducing sugars, citric acid, vitamin C, total phenolics and antioxidant capacity), which were considerably influenced by weather conditions. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that pH, dry matter content and starch content traits could be used advantageously in studies of temporal stability in potatoes. Summary: Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth and serves as a signaling molecule to regulate gene expression inducing physiological, growth and developmental responses. An excess or deficiency of nitrogen may have adverse effects on plants. Studying nitrogen uptake will help us understand the molecular mechanisms of utilization for targeted molecular breeding.Here, we identified and functionally validated an NAC (NAM‐ATAF1/2‐CUC2) transcription factor based on the transcriptomes of two apple rootstocks with different nitrogen uptake efficiency. NAC1, a target gene of miR164, directly regulates the expression of the high‐affinity nitrate transporter (MhNRT2.4) and citric acid transporter (MhMATE), affecting root nitrogen uptake.To examine the role of MhNAC1 in nitrogen uptake, we produced transgenic lines that overexpressed or silenced MhNAC1. Silencing MhNAC1 promoted nitrogen uptake and citric acid secretion in roots, and enhanced plant tolerance to low nitrogen conditions, while overexpression of MhNAC1 or silencing miR164 had the opposite effect.This study not only revealed the role of the miR164‐MhNAC1 module in nitrogen uptake in apple rootstocks but also confirmed that citric acid secretion in roots affected nitrogen uptake, which provides a research basis for efficient nitrogen utilization and molecular breeding in apple. A solid phase extraction-electrospray ionization-ion mobility spectrometry (SPE-ESI-IMS) method was developed to determine six organic acids in cucumber leaves. The multiplexing IMS using correlation technique was adopted to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and resolution. 90% methanol/water was selected to be the solvent, the flow rate was 120 µL·h−1, the stop frequency of ion gate was 5000 Hz, the ion gate opening period was 0.1 ms, the air flow velocity was 2.0 L·min−1, the electrospray voltage was 3.5 kV, and the drift tube temperature was 90 °C. The cucumber leaves were treated with ultrasound in 50% methanol/water. The analytes were subsequently eluted from an SPE cartridge with 0.1 mol·L−1 HCl, and the extract was neutralized to pH 2–3 with ammonia before freeze-drying. SPE-ESI-IMS enabled the effective determination of citric acid, fumaric acid, lactic acid, malic acid, pyruvic acid, and succinic acid based upon the drift time. The limits of detection were from 0.008 µg·mL−1 to 0.2 µg·mL−1, and the recoveries of spiked samples were from 87.00% to 107.20%. Climate change, land fragmentation, coupled with nationwide lockdown during COVID-19, had put the rural people of Bihar in financial distress without any alternative livelihood. In this context, oyster mushroom cultivation was considered to be a viable livelihood option but the existing technology produced less yield with shorter shelf life. Hence an on-farm trial (OFT) was undertook by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sitamarhi, Bihar to assess existing technology, refine it as needed and then strategize its out-scaling through TOWS matrix. Out of three substrates (paddy, wheat and paddy + wheat), the mushroom grown on wheat straw substrate performed best. In this paper, EFKA FA 4663 (EFKA) dispersant was used for the first time in the alumina slurries tert-butyl alcohol-based freeze-casting and compared to the commonly used anionic dispersant citric acid (CA). The comparison of both dispersants was analyzed at the beginning of the process at different ultra-low freezing temperatures (− 170 to − 130 °C). The monoliths obtained with EFKA presented promising properties due to its stabilization of alumina particles by both electrostatic interactions and steric impediment, a considerable improvement when compared to the CA that promotes the stabilization of alumina particles only by electrostatic interaction. The use of different dispersants, as well as the control of freezing temperature, significantly influenced the microstructural properties of the monoliths. The monoliths exhibited prismatic pore geometry with high connectivity, forming a complex pore channel with total porosity up to 64.7%, and open porosity up to 48.5%. Results confirmed that the modification of the type of dispersant led to a difference in the grain size (up to 23.1%) and pore size (up to 30.5%) obtained in the materials. The monoliths produced with EFKA dispersant presented a considerable compressive strength resistance up to 11.7 MPa due to its dispersion mechanism that provided the thickening of the walls, confirming that the type of dispersion has a strong influence on the final properties of the materials. Therefore, the type of dispersant proved to be another parameter that allows the refinement of alumina monoliths properties, highlighting the use of EFKA as a promising alternative in the system studied. Citric acid (citH4) is a ubiquitous product in nature with an interesting chemistry owing to its three carboxy and one hydroxy groups, which can be deprotonated in a stepwise manner into six kinds of citrate anions involving two protonation isomers. Deprotonated citrates easily coordinate to late‐3d‐metal ions (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn), affording complexes including mono‐, di‐, tri‐, tetra‐, hexa‐, hepta‐, octa‐, nona‐, and 21‐nuclear complexes with a variety of structures. Magnetic interactions between metal centers are mainly generated via superexchange through hydroxylate or carboxylate bridging, whereas weaker magnetic dipole interactions appear in the absence of superexchange interactions. In citrate complexes, both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions have been found. Citrate has a great potential to serve as a bridge between spin quantum magnetism and green chemistry. Benzoxazines, renowned for their self-curing properties, high glass transition temperature, and exceptional thermal stability, have faced environmental and biotoxicity concerns despite their remarkable performance. Combining high-performance, ecofriendly and degradable benzoxazines remains a challenge. In this work, we synthesized an entirely bio-based benzoxazine resin, 2,6-bis(3-(furan-2-ylmethyl)-8-methoxy-2-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[e][1,3]oxazin-6-yl)tetrahydro-[1,3]dioxino[5,4-d][1,3]dioxine (VE-BZ), from natural raw materials, including vanillin, erythritol, furfurylamine, and natural benzaldehyde. The presence of the bis(acetal) structure, furanic structure, and benzene ring-branched chain structure in the resin confers favorable adhesive strength, high carbon residue, self-extinguishing ability, and outstanding thermal stability to VE-BZ. Moreover, VE-BZ can undergo dual-site curing and complete degradation through the synergistic effects of acid and heat, enabling its reuse in benzoxazine synthesis. The acid used for both synthesis and degradation is bio-based citric acid, eliminating non-biobased catalysts or additives from the entire process. This approach embodies a comprehensive green chemistry closed-loop process. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of cross-linking and reinforcements in gelatin on the physico-mechanical properties of obtained composites. The gelatin-based composites cross-linked with citric acid (CA) were prepared: gelatin type B (GB) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and novel hybrid composite GB with β-TCP and hydroxyapatite (HAp) particles, and their structure, thermal, and mechanical properties were compared with pure gelatin B samples. FTIR analysis revealed that no chemical interaction between the reinforcements and gelatin matrix was established during the processing of hybrid composites by the solution casting method, proving the particles had no influence on GB cross-linking. The morphological investigation of hybrid composites revealed that cross-linking with CA improved the dispersion of particles, which further led to an increase in mechanical performance. The microindentation test showed that the hardness value was increased by up to 449%, which shows the high potential of β-TCP and HAp particle reinforcement combined with CA as a cross-linking agent. Furthermore, the reduced modulus of elasticity was increased by up to 288%. Results of the MTT assay on L929 cells have revealed that the hybrid composite GB-TCP-HA-CA was not cytotoxic. Over the years, pancreatic cancer has experienced a global surge in incidence and mortality rates, largely attributed to the influence of obesity and diabetes mellitus on disease initiation and progression. In this study, we investigated the pathogenesis of pancreatic cancer in mice subjected to a high‐fat diet (HFD) and observed an increase in citric acid expenditure. Notably, citrate treatment demonstrates significant efficacy in promoting tumor cell apoptosis, suppressing cell proliferation, and inhibiting tumor growth in vivo. Our investigations revealed that citrate achieved these effects by releasing secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) proteins, repolarizing M2 macrophages into M1 macrophages, and facilitating tumor cell apoptosis. Overall, our research highlights the critical role of citric acid as a pivotal metabolite in the intricate relationship between obesity and pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, we uncovered the significant metabolic and immune checkpoint function of SPARC in pancreatic cancer, suggesting its potential as both a biomarker and therapeutic target in treating this patient population. In order to improve the nutritional value of leisure tree nuts, this study was conducted to explore the effects of the supplemental levels of anthocyanin, salt and citric acid on the sensory and anthocyanin retention rates of the product in the pre-cooked solution of Zanthoxylum, anise and cassia, which were 1. 5%, 3. 0% and 4. 0% (w/ w), respectively. The results of single factor optimization showed that when the supplemental levels of anthocyanin, salt and citric acid were 8. 0%, 12. 5% and 0. 6% (w/ w), respectively, the score of sensory evaluation was the highest, and the anthocyanin retention rate reached 63. 54%, respectively. After moisturizing and drying at 95 ℃ for 160 min, pecan showed nutty fragrance, and anthocyanin retention rate was 40. 88%. After baking at 125 ℃ for 25 min, the product was crisp and good in appearance, and the anthocyanin retention rate was 36. 97%. This research investigates citric acid (CA) synthesis using the indigenous strain Aspergillus niger ASP26, which was isolated from date by‐products. The study initially involved isolating fungi capable of CA production and identifying the most potent strain based on its characteristic enzymatic activity. A. niger ASP26 was acknowledged in a previous study for its remarkable ability to produce extracellular enzymes, such as cellulase and amylase, which enable it to degrade organic materials effectively. After the identification phase, these isolates were screened for CA production using a modified Czapek‐Dox medium. The research identified significant factors affecting CA production in submerged fermentation, including pH, carbon source, inoculum size, and fermentation time. Optimal conditions were determined for A. niger ASP26, resulting in a maximum CA yield of 16.89 g/L. These conditions included a 2.5% spore suspension at 2 × 107 spores/mL, an initial glucose concentration of 125 g/L, and incubation at 30°C for 144 h. Notably, A. niger ASP26 demonstrated the ability to produce CA under stress conditions as well. Citric acid is essential for various biological processes, such as cellular respiration, and is naturally present in citrus fruits. It also serves as a preservative and flavor enhancer in processed foods and beverages. Background: In order to find an alternative cryoprotectant for canine semen, different cryoprotectants, as dimethyl sulphoxide and ethylene glycol, dimethyle formamide either alone or in combination with glycerol have been evaluated on pooled semen of different breeds with different opinions. Methods: In the current study the effect of glycerol, DMF and their combination in Tris-citric acid-fructose egg yolk plasma extender on motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity (PMI), acrosome integrity (AI), inner mitochondrial membrane potential (IMMP), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant enzymes in frozen-thaw semen of pug breed was compared. Result: Values for motility, viability, (PMI), AI were significantly (p<0.05) high in TCFEYP-G compared to TCFEYP-DMF and TCFEYPG+ DMF at post thaw. However, HIMMP and MIMMP/MDA were non-significantly (P>0.05) high and low in TCFEYP-G compared to TCFEYP-DMF and TCFEYP-G + DMF at post thaw, respectively. MDA concentration was significantly (p<0.05) low in TCFEYP-G compared to TCFEYP-DMF and TCFEYP-G + TCFEYP-DMF extenders. However, H2O2, scavenging capacity of spermatozoa, cryopreserved in TCFEYP-G was significantly (p<0.05) higher than in TCFEYP-DMF and TCFEYP-G + TCFEYP-DMF. However, there was no significant (p>0.05) difference in superoxide free radical scavenging activity and nitrite concentration of spermatozoa among the three extenders. Activity of GPX, SOD and Catalase was also significantly (p<0.05) higher in TCFEYP-G compared to TCFEYP-DMF and TCFEYP-G+DMF. However, values were reverse for GRE activity. Citric acid, which is a type of polycarboxylic acid, is environmentally friendly, and non-harmful and it can be used as a cross-linker. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticle is a catalyst that provides many properties for textile products with its large surface area. Present study, a mixture was prepared with different concentrations of citric acid and commercial TiO2 Degussa P25 nanopowder suspensions. Two different curing temperatures (120°C and 140°C) were applied to the cotton fabrics in the pad-dry-cure method. The adhesion of the chemicals to the fiber surface was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FT/IR) analysis. The yellowing effect caused by citric acid on cotton fabrics was eliminated with white TiO2 nanoparticles. Methylene blue was used for staining the samples. Color analyses were performed with a spectrophotometer to determine photocatalytic properties of the samples. It was determined that the samples treated with a mixture of 30 g/L citric acid and TiO2 suspensions were the most discolored samples after exposure to solar light. The ability of β-CD to form inclusion complexes with ibuprofen (IBU) and at the same time to make a two-phase system with citric acid was explored in the present study for achieving improved solubility and dissolution rate of IBU. Mechanical milling as well as mechanical milling combined with thermal annealing of the powder mixtures were applied as synthetic methods. Solubility and dissolution kinetics of the complexes were studied in compliance with European Pharmacopoeia (ICH Q4B). β-CD and citric acid (CA) molecules were shown to interact by both ball milling (BM), thermal annealing, as well as BM with subsequent annealing. Complexes were also formed by milling the three compounds (β-CD, CA and IBU) simultaneously, as well as by a consecutive first including IBU into β-CD and then binding the formed β-CD/IBU inclusion complex with CA. As a result, ternary β-CD/IBU/CA complex formed by initial incorporation of ibuprofen into β-CD, followed by successive formation of a two-phase mixture with CA, exhibited notably improved dissolution kinetics compared to the pure ibuprofen and slightly better compared to the binary β-CD/IBU system. Although the addition of CA to β-CD/IBU does not significantly increase the solubility rate of IBU, it must be considered that the amount of β-CD is significantly less in the ternary complex compared to the binary β-CD/IBU. this study evaluated dentin microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and failure modes (at 24 h and one year), bonding interface regarding hybridization, surface morphology regarding demineralization, in situ metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, and antibacterial effect of three dentin etchants compared to 35% phosphoric acid (PA). The Adper Single Bond 2 adhesive (3 M Oral Care) was applied on moist dentin etched with PA (control) or on air-dried dentin etched with 3% aluminum nitrate + 2% oxalic acid (AN), 6.8% ferric oxalate + 10% citric acid (FO), or 10% citric acid (CA). The µTBS test used 40 human teeth (n = 10). Failure modes and surface morphology were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (n = 3), while bonding interface morphology and MMP activity were evaluated by laser scanning confocal microscopy (n = 3). Antibacterial activity was evaluated against S. Mutans biofilm by means of viable cells count (CFU/mL). PA presented the highest bond strengths regardless of aging time. PA, AN, and CA showed stable bond strengths after one year of storage. Adhesive and mixed failures were predominant in all groups. Thin hybrid layers with short resin tags were observed for the experimental etchants. The AN-based etchant was able to inhibit MMP activity. All tested etchants presented antibacterial activity against S. Mutans biofilm. Sugarcane juice is a popular beverage and is also processed to produce sugar. The polyphenol oxidase (PPO) in sugarcane juice causes enzymatic browning and makes the process of sugar production complex and cumbersome. Storage of sugarcane juice is also hampered by the high sugar content and rapid microbial fermentation. The present research assessed the potential of lemon juice (LJ) and ginger extract (GE) as natural inhibitors of PPO. Enzyme kinetics and the mechanism of inhibition of LJ and GE were studied. Primary investigation was carried out using molecular docking approach to assess the inhibitory potential of LJ and GE and to determine the nature of interaction between the enzyme and inhibitors. Extracts were used as inhibitors and studies revealed that both reduced the PPO activity. Subsequently, pure bioactive inhibitors such as ascorbic acid, citric acid, and 6‐shogaol present in these natural extracts were used to study the mode of inhibition of PPO. Citric acid decreased PPO activity by lowering pH, while ascorbic acid was found to be a competitive inhibitor of PPO with a Ki of 75.69 µM. The proportion of LJ and GE required in sugarcane juice was optimized on the basis of browning index and sensory acceptance. Further, the sugarcane cane juice after inhibition of PPO under optimized conditions was spray dried and evaluated for reconstitution properties. Developing bio-based plastic has become an important strategy for solving environmental pollution. In this study, konjac flour (KF) and poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) as main film-forming substances with added citric acid (CA), glutaraldehyde (GA) and glycerin, were used to prepare bio-based composite films via solution casting. How the PVA polymer amount affected the composite films including mechanical performance, structural properties and morphology was investigated. The results revealed that PVA polymer could obviously improve the mechanical property of the films, and the addition of 25% PVA based on KF mass when CA, GA and glycerin were fixed, was demonstrated as the optimal amount, maintaining an excellent tensile strength (TB) and elongation at break (EAB). Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicated the successful cross-linking reaction between PVA and KF, and some further proofs could be confirmed from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetry (TG). After modification with PVA, the cross section of the KF/PVA composite film was more dense and uniform, implying that PVA was well fused with KF system. Meanwhile, the films modified with PVA presented a good thermal resistance ability. To broaden the range in structures and properties, and therefore the applicability of sustainable foams based on wheat gluten expanded with ammonium-bicarbonate, we show here how three naturally ocurring multifunctional additives affect their properties. Citric acid yields foams with the lowest density (porosity of ~50%) with mainly closed cells. Gallic acid acts as a radical scavenger, yielding the least crosslinked/ aggregated foam. The use of a low amount of this acid yields foams with the highest uptake of the body-fluid model substance (saline, ~130% after 24 hours). However, foams with genipin show a large and rapid capillary uptake (50% in one second), due to their high content of open cells. The most dense and stiff foam is obtained with one weight percent genipin, which is also the most crosslinked. Overall, the foams show a high energy loss-rate under cyclic compression (84-92% at 50% strain), indicating promising cushioning behaviour. They also show a low compression set, indicating promising sealability. Overall, the work here provides a step towards using protein biofoams as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based plastic/rubber foams in applications where absorbent and/or mechanical properties play a key role. Wheat gluten is a bio-based alternative to fossil-based polymers in thermoplastic and crosslinked foams, and it has been shown that it is possible to extrude foams based on wheat gluten. BACKGROUND: Color, nutrients and flavor are the key characteristics of pomegranate juice, but they are susceptible to processing methods and raw materials. In this study, the effects of aril juicing and whole fruit juicing methods on the composition of 'Black‐seed' pomegranate juice from three producing areas were studied, including physicochemical parameters, color attributes, organic acids, sugars, phenolic compounds, and volatile compounds. RESULTS: The whole fruit juicing method resulted in higher juice yields of pomegranate fruit with 69.01–72.59%, hue angle values were 5.95–6.45°, and the juice remained red. The highest level of citric acid (21.21 g L−1), total acids (24.78 g L−1), and total anthocyanin content (435.59 mg L−1) were found in whole fruit juice, and seven tannins were detected. The most abundant volatile compounds were (Z)‐3‐hexen‐1‐ol and 1‐hexanol in all juice samples, with alcohol content increased and aldehydes content decreased by whole fruit juicing. Principal component analysis revealed that the 24 indexes (variable important in projection >1) clearly distinguished juice samples obtained by two juicing methods, with ellagic acid hexoside, (E)‐2‐heptenal, (+)‐catechin, and octanoic acid having the best discriminatory potential. CONCLUSION: Overall, the effects of juicing method on 'Black‐seed' pomegranate juice were greater than those of raw‐material‐producing areas. A high content of water is needed in traditional thermoplastic starch (TPS) processing to plasticize the starch and facilitate the processing, which leads to relatively low strength and modulus of the products and causes the issue of product aging partially due to the gradual water loss over time. In this work, based on the results from our previous study on lignin and cellulose nanofibril-reinforced TPS composites, a low content of citric acid (<0.5 wt%) was used to replace all the added water in the prior study (∼20 wt%). Citric acid demonstrated a much stronger viscosity-reducing effect than water and enabled composite processing at a very low acid content. The resultant nanocomposites exhibited much higher strength and modulus than those containing 20 wt% water as the processing aid. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) results showed strong interactions between the polar groups of starch and other ingredients. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photos indicated the disappearance of the two-phase "sea-island" morphology, suggesting the strong compatibilization effect of the acid. To lower the cost of the nanocomposites, we further replaced the starch and zein (an expensive biopolymer) components in the original composites with low-cost cornmeal. The new nanocomposites with cornmeal as the major ingredient exhibited similar processability and mechanical properties. With its low cost and high properties, this new type of agricultural byproduct-based nanocomposites is expected to be a promising material to replace synthetic polymers in many applications. Industrial processes are the main source of Pb(II) contamination of natural water bodies. Pb(II) is a non-biodegradable heavy metal and carcinogen. The recent study explored the ability of citric acid-modified-kepok banana peel (CA-BP) to remove Pb(II) from an aqueous solution using the batch method. The adsorption capacity of kepok banana peel (BP) was also investigated for comparison. The optimum conditions for Pb(II) removal using kepok banana peel were achieved at pH 5, initial concentration of 600 mg l-1, contact time of 75 min, and agitation speed of 100 rpm, with an adsorption capacity of 36.478 mg g-1. Meanwhile, the adsorption capacity of citric acid modified-kepok banana peel was 64.088 mg g-1, which was reached at pH 5, initial concentration of 850 mg l-1, contact time of 75 min, and agitation speed of 150 rpm. The adsorption of Pb(II) onto both sorbents followed the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order model, indicating monolayer adsorption with chemical interaction as a rate-limiting step. A Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analysis was conducted to identify the functional groups present in the biosorbent and demonstrate a change in the wave number. The surface morphology of the biosorbent was examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) before and after the absorption of Pb2+ metal ions. The objective of Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) is to quantify the elemental composition of the biosorbent derived from the surface of the kepok banana peel. An X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis was conducted to determine the chemical composition of the surface of the kepok banana peel biosorbent. There are abundant low-rank coal resources in China. However, its higher AAEMs (alkali and alkaline earth metals) content and the release of AAEMs during combustion cause serious fouling and slagging problems. In this paper, a method of removing AAEMs and ash from low-rank coal to produce clean coal by organic acid leaching was proposed. The leaching effects of four organic acids were compared, the leaching mechanism of citric acid was analyzed, and the removal behavior of AAEMs and ash was investigated. The results show the effect of citric acid is better than others. During the leaching process, the citric acid ionizes H+, which reacts with inorganic minerals of AAEMs, completes ion exchange with AAEMs Organics. Under the relative optimized experimental conditions, the content of Na2O in coal ash is 0.9%, which is in line with the standard of power coal in China. The removal efficiency of alkaline earth metals Ca and Mg are significantly lower than those of alkali metals Na and K. The trend in the removal efficiency of Ca and ash are consistent. Yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ) materials are of great interest due to their mechanical properties, chemical inertness, low thermal conductivity and high ionic conductivity. However, a high temperature is required to consolidate the YSZ, while homogeneity problems may arise. This study proposes a modified wet chemical method for commercial YSZ sintering started from a scalable colloidal solution containing yttrium and lithium in an aqueous medium. This homogeneous mixture, adjusted by pH and Li/Y content, transforms into intermediate phases that play a key role as "cement" linking YSZ particles at low sintering temperatures. The originality consists of the use of the citric acid enabling the formation of either porous or dense microstructure depending on processing conditions. A complete follow-up of the transformation of compounds throughout the process, from liquid phase to cement, is proposed and enables us to propose the consolidation mechanism that will be useful for further optimization. The aim of this study is the determination some quality parameters of grape and mulberry pestils (leathers) sold in Elazig. For this purpose, a total of 45 fruit pestil samples, of which 23 were grape pestils and 22 were mulberry pestils, were analyzed for their physical properties, chemical properties, and microbiological characteristics. In grape and mulberry pestils, the average L* (lightness/darkness) values were 42.72 and 44.81, a* (redness) values were 10.29 and 9.07, and b* (yellow) values were 20.90 and 20.90, respectively. In grape and mulberry fruit pestil samples, the thickness values were 1.62 and 1.34, pH values were 3.82 and 4.75, acidity values (as citric acid) were 0.63 and 0.22%, aw values were 0.602 and 0.627, dry matter values were 68.78% and 72.99 %, ash values were 2.25% and 0.64%, insoluble ash values in 10% HCl were 0.20 and 0.29, and Brix values were 18.83 and 19.36, respectively. TMAB, coliform, Staphylococcus-Micrococcus, and yeast-mold counts were found to be 4.72 and 4.48, 1.30 and 1.89, 2.11 and 2.12, and 2.04 and 2.11 log10 cfu/g, respectively, in all samples examined. In 14 of the samples (31.11%), the total number of mesophilic aerobic microorganisms was found to be >5 log10 cfu/g. Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. were not found in any of the samples. However, the samples were found to contain significant levels of yeast-mold. There was no difference between the groups in microbiological terms in statistical analysis (P > 0.05). According to the current study, there was no standard production and not enough hygiene rules were observed in the pestil production process in family businesses in Elazig. On the other hand, essential information was obtained on some physical, chemical and microbiological quality parameters of grape and blackberry pulps sold in markets and stores in Elazig.
