CISTI (Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies) is a technical and scientific annual eventdating back to 2006, whose purpose is to present and discuss knowledge, new perspectives, experiences and innovations in the Information Systems and Technologies domain (IST). The dynamics associated with IST together with the growing interest of the global community in CISTI have resulted in many topics and articles published in each conference, justifying a comprehensive analysis of the literature published. In this study, we present such analysis encompassing the last four editions, between 2013 and 2016, and a total of 677 articles. To accomplish such challenge more efficiently, we adopted text mining. We assessed through topic modeling how the unveiled research trends are aligned with the main conference themes. Data-driven empirical research has proven it is still a hot subject for researchers. Likewise, education and learning are also playing a significant role in CISTI's contributions. Notwithstanding, Internet and social media are highly relevant topics for the conference, although not figuring as major themes. On the other side, health is receiving less attention. Thus, this study can lead to recommendations for future CISTI's themes, in addition to providing an overview of current research trends. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GREY literature ,OPEN data movement ,TECHNICAL information ,PUBLIC libraries ,ACADEMIC libraries - Abstract
Purpose – The paper aims to investigate the impact of the open access movement on the document supply of grey literature. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is based on a comparative survey of five major scientific and technical information centres: The British Library (UK), KM (Canada), INIST-CNRS (France), KISTI (South Korea) and TIB Hannover (Germany). Findings – The five institutions supplied less than 1.8 million supplied items in 2014, i.e. half of the activity in 2004 (−55 per cent). There were 85,000 grey documents, mainly conference proceedings and reports, i.e. 5 per cent of the overall activity, a historically low level compared to 2004 (−72 per cent). At the same time, they continue to expand their open access strategies. Just as in 2004 and 2008, these strategies are specific, and they reflect institutional and national choices rather than global approaches, with two or three common or comparable projects (PubMed Central, national repositories, attribution of DOIs to datasets, dissertations and other objects). In spite of all differences, their development reveals some common features, like budget cuts, legal barriers (copyright), focus on domestic needs and open access policies to foster dissemination and impact of research results. Document supply for corporate customers tends to become a business-to-business service, while the delivery for the public sector relies more, than before, on resource sharing and networking with academic and public libraries. Except perhaps for the TIB Hannover, the declining importance of grey literature points towards their changing role – less intermediation, less acquisition and collection development and more high-value services, more dissemination and preservation capacities designed for the scientific community needs (research excellence, open access, data management, etc.). Originality/value – The paper is a follow-up study of two surveys published in 2006 and 2009. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The authors are hereby presenting a rare case of neo formation developing on the left kidney in a 80-year-old patient affected by left lumbar backache. The neo formation appears doubtful in nature, on ultrasonography, CT scan and MRI. The lesion is roundish and contiguous at the kidney convex edge; due to its clinical aspects, it requires a surgical management and is, therefore, easily excised. The histopathologic examination confirms it is a mesothelial cyst. The case is presented for its absolute rarity and for the preoperative diagnostic doubts it may generate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NRC-CISTI serves Canada as its National Science Library (as mandated by Canada's Parliament in 1924) and also provides direct support to researchers of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). By reason of its mandate, vision, and strategic positioning, NRC-CISTI has been rapidly and effectively mobilizing Canadian stakeholders and resources to become a lead player on both the Canadian national and international scenes in matters relating to the organization and management of scientific research data. In a previous communication (CODATA International Conference, 2008), the orientation of NRC-CISTI towards this objective and its short- and medium-term plans and strategies were presented. Since then, significant milestones have been achieved. This paper presents NRC-CISTI's most recent activities in these areas, which are progressing well alongside a strategic organizational redesign process that is realigning NRC-CISTI's structure, mission, and mandate to better serve its clients. Throughout this transformational phase, activities relating to data management remain vibrant.

In the Canadian research environment, it is difficult for researchers to effectively discover, access, and use data sets, except for those that are the most well known. Several recent reports have discussed the issues around "lost" data sets: those which are intended to be shared but cannot be identified and utilized effectively because of insufficient associated metadata. Both problems are approaching critical levels in Canada and internationally, a situation that is unacceptable because these data sets are often generated as a result of public funding. Solutions may involve providing support and training for researchers on how they can best collect and manage their data sets or developing gateways to scientific data sets. NRC-CISTI is the largest comprehensive source of scientific, technical, and medical information in North America, with a mandate to serve as Canada's national science library. Through its publishing arm, NRC Research Press, it is also Canada's foremost scientific publisher. NRC-CISTI is an organization with demonstrated expertise in metadata management, which, until recently, focused primarily on library and publishing contexts. However in November 2007, it formally committed to expand its agenda to address the management of scientific research data and the related critical needs of the research community. This paper presents NRC-CISTI's activities in this area. NRC-CISTI has begun by hosting forums in which the critical players (including the granting agencies) mapped out targets and approaches. It has strengthened its own internal expertise regarding metadata and management of scientific data sets. Finally, NRC-CISTI is developing a gateway Web site which will provide access to Canadian scientific data sets and related metadata, tools, educational resources, and other informative and collaborative tools urgently needed by Canadian and international researchers. NRC-CISTI is the sponsoring body for the Canadian National Committee for CODATA and is committed to promoting and supporting CNC/CODATA's initiatives.

MAXI J1836-194 is a Galactic black hole candidate X-ray binary that was discovered in 2011 when it went into outburst. In this paper, we present the full radio monitoring of this system during its `failed' outburst, in which the source did not complete a full set of state changes, only transitioning as far as the hard intermediate state. Observations with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) show that the jet properties changed significantly during the outburst. The VLA observations detected linearly polarised emission at a level of ~1% early in the outburst, increasing to ~3% as the outburst peaked. High-resolution images with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) show a ~15 mas jet along the position angle $-21 \pm 2^\circ$, in agreement with the electric vector position angle found from our polarisation results ($-21 \pm 4^\circ$), implying that the magnetic field is perpendicular to the jet. Astrometric observations suggest that the system required an asymmetric natal kick to explain its observed space velocity. Comparing quasi-simultaneous X-ray monitoring with the 5 GHz VLA observations from the 2011 outburst shows an unusually steep hard-state radio/X-ray correlation of $L_{\rm R} \propto L_{\rm X}^{1.8\pm0.2}$, where $L_{\rm R}$ and $L_{\rm X}$ denote the radio and X-ray luminosities, respectively. With ATCA and Swift monitoring of the source during a period of re-brightening in 2012, we show that the system lay on the same steep correlation. Due to the low inclination of this system, we then investigate the possibility that the observed correlation may have been steepened by variable Doppler boosting., 18 pages, 4 tables, 10 figures. Librarians frequently express their reluctance to get involved in international lending. This can perhaps be attributed to a feeling that their interests lie closer to home. As a result, they tend to view requests from libraries in other countries as an exceptional problem to be solved rather than part of the regular workflow. A few bad experiences with international lending can forever color the feeling of interlibrary loan offices about requests from abroad. The general feeling is a dismissive “Why bother?” CISTI has taken a more optimistic view of international resource sharing. CISTI has, in fact, taken up the challenge of supplying to libraries outside of North America, realizing that as the world shrinks, along with library budgets, we must be prepared to look beyond our own borders. This article provides a review of CISTI's experiences and some practical advice for dealing with particular issues, such as lending across long distances, language barriers, messaging and ordering systems, international mail and Customs controls and billing issues.

21. Defects of Glucose Metabolism in Polycystic Kidney Disease: First Studies and Future Perspectives
- Abstract
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a common genetic disorder characterized by bilateral renal cyst formation. Several aspects of the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying cyst formation in this disease are still controversial, but there is today general agreement on ADPKD being a loss-of-function disease. In this brief article we specifically discuss 2 aspects: (i) we try to give an overview of the state-of-the-art of our current understanding of the genetic and molecular basis of the disease, trying to provide an integrated view of the different models of cystogenesis proposed; (ii) we provide a detailed description and a discussion of the recent findings reported by our laboratory on defective glucose metabolism in ADPKD and its potential therapeutical implications, highlighting also the need for further validation of our findings in additional animal models of late onset and slow progression., Il rene policistico autosomico dominante (ADPKD) è una malattia genetica molto comune, caratterizzata dalla formazione di cisti in entrambi i reni. - Abstract
Basic research has identified the 2 major defects linked to polycystic disease: (i) the cystic cells proliferate excessively; (ii) these cells secrete fluid that enlarges the cysts. The main therapeutic strategies in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) are the use of drugs capable of interfering with the mechanisms causing these defects. One of the strategies explored was the inhibition of the mTOR system. Unfortunately, 2 clinical trials have failed to show a protective effect of this class of drugs. Somatostatin is another molecule under intense clinical validation. At the moment, the collected data suggest a possible activity against ADPKD, but the results are still too preliminary to attain clinically meaningful conclusions. Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor antagonist that has been extensively studied: a clinical trial recruiting an adequate population suggested a possible positive effect of this molecule in the reduction of renal volume growth and the achievement of significant clinical targets. The near future promises new exploratory clinical trials of molecules that have already been assessed in the recent past or of completely new therapeutic strategies. For the high number of enrolled patients, the HALT study attracts the attention of the scientific community. This trial will explore the role of antagonists of the renin-angiontensin system in slowing the progression of ADPKD. Finally, a category of drugs previously unexplored is that of the inhibitors of the epidermal growth factor receptor. Clinical research in ADPKD is extraordinarily active in this period and this consideration allows a cautious optimism about the prospective therapies for this disease that for long remained orphan. A shadow on the prospect of future results in clinical research in this field comes from the observation that a considerable number of trials show a methodologically inadequate design., La ricerca di base ha identificato i due principali difetti legati alla patologia policistica: a) le cellule cistiche proliferano eccessivamente e b) queste cellule secernono del fluido che ingrossa le cisti.

ICIST ,CISTI - Abstract
The NRC-CISTI library had its beginnings in 1924, when a small resource collection was established to serve the scientific staff of the newly organized laboratories of the National Research Council of Canada. The pioneering chief librarian, Margaret Gill, was appointed in 1928. The first president, Dr. H.M. Tory made it clear from the outset, however, that he intended to create “a library that would serve scientific workers everywhere in Canada.” During her 30 years, Miss Gill built up one of the strongest collections of scientific journals in Canada.

CISTI, the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, is a division of the National Research Council of Canada. Our formal mandate is "to promote and provide for the use of scientific and technical information by the government and people of Canada for the purposes of economic, regional and social development." This means in essence first, to maintain a national resource of scientific and technical information, and second, to provide services which enable Canadians to use that resource. I will divide my talk into two major parts: first, the collection itself; and second, the services provided to make this collection available to Canadians.

The communication addresses different aspects of accessibility and dissemination of grey literature in the digital age when the de-materialization of documents leads to a new paradigm that overcomes the intrinsic characteristics of print material. Based on the added value of grey literature for academic institutions, the communication attempts an analysis of the ongoing transformations; especially concerning the way research and development in the grey area have become part of the open access movement. In this context, we analyse some supply services for the dissemination of grey literature: their typology, their strategic approach, and the special conditions and characteristics of their service. The analysis starts with a review and an update of professional information on the main European supplier of grey literature. For some of them, the review is completed by an empirical survey. We conclude with some remarks on significant developments in grey supply. Who are dynamical actors in this playground, where are original and interesting services and approaches? Where the dissemination of grey literature is moving, and what is the logic of this movement? Canada produces just 3% of the world's total GNP; it is a prosperous country, but a small one. Canada also produces about 3% of the world's research, roughly in line with its GNP. However, its main science, technology and medical library is the largest in the world. That library is called the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI)., The Second International AESE/CBE/EASE Joint Meeting, Sixth International Conference on Geoscience Information, and Thirty-second Annual Meeting. The theme of this year's DIA meeting - the dissemination, availability, source, and quality of drug information - reflects the continuing concern over the prolific amount of information being published every year and the importance of having access to the right information at the right time. The modes of access to the biomedical literature have changed drastically in the last 10 years, bringing us into the age of computer-based information services. In response to this change, the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) has been playing an important role since the middle of the sixties in providing access to computerized bibliographic information systems in Canada.
