This study focused on the extraction and analysis of β-glucan, free and bound phenols, total phenolic content (TPC), and total flavonoid content (TFC) from whole grain, rice, and bran of purple and glutinous hulless barley, and assessment of the antioxidant activity of extracts. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) quantified various phenolic compounds, including protocatechuic aicd, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, vanillin, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, sinspic acid, luteolin-7-O-glucuronide, chrysoeriol-7-O-glucuronide, luteolin, chrysoeriol, anthocyanin and 8 types of ferulic acid dimers. The Penthorum chinense Pursh leaves were rich in active ingredients. The active ingredient content, in vitro antioxidant capacity and pancreatic lipase inhibition ability of P. chinense leaves extracted by different solvents (80% acetone, 80% ethanol, 80% methanol, water) were compared in this study. The results showed that the total phenolic content (250.04 mg/g) extracted by 80% acetone was highest, while both the total flavonoid content (176.96 mg/g and 174.89 mg/g) and total proanthocyanidins content (43.05 mg/g and 42.87 mg/g) extracted by 80% methanol and 80% ethanol were highest. Except for rutin, isoquercitrin, kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, pinocembrin 7-O-D-glucoside, pinocembrin 7-O-(3''-O-galloy-4'',6''-hexahydroxydiphenoyl)-β-glucoside and thonningianin A, the content of nine phenolic compounds showed insignificant differences among three organic solvent extracts, which were significantly higher than those in water extract (P0.05 ), while 80% acetone extract showed the strongest ABTS+ free radical scavenging ability (IC50=48.92 μg/mL) and 80% ethanol extract also showed the strongest ferric reducing antioxidant power. Abstract With the rapid development of Chinese transportation networks, such as the Sichuan-Tibet railway, numerous tunnels are under construction or planned in mountainous regions. Some of these tunnels must traverse or be situated near active fault zones, which could suffer damage from fault slip. In this study, the seismic response of a mountain tunnel subjected to coseismic faulting was analyzed using a fault-structure system in a two-step process. Firstly, a nonuniform slip model was proposed to calculate the ground deformations and internal displacements induced by a specific active fault on a geological scale, considering nonuniform slips on the fault plane. The 1989 Loma Prieta and 2022 Menyuan earthquakes were chosen as case studies to validate the proposed slip model. Secondly, the calculated displacement of the Menyuan earthquake was used as the input load for the discrete–continuous coupling analysis of the Daliang tunnel on an engineering scale. The simulated deformation of the Daliang tunnel aligned with the on-site damage observations following the Menyuan earthquake. Lastly, the effects of different fault conditions on the tunnel seismic response were investigated. The results indicate that the distribution of the peak longitudinal strain of the lining is governed by fault mechanisms, and the degree of fault slip significantly influences the response of the tunnel. A tunnel passing through an active fault with a wider fault fracture zone and smaller dip angle experience less damage.

Abstract The TBS is a new method for clinicians to assess the bone quality. It is directly related to the mechanical strength of bone and helps predict fracture risk. The present analysis aimed to investigate the associations between serum PTH levels and TBS by analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A total of 3516 participants from the NHANES 2005–2006 were included in this cross-sectional study. The independent variable was serum PTH, and the outcome variable was TBS. The associations of serum PTH levels with TBS were examined using multivariable linear regression models. After adjusting for covariates, there was a negative association between serum PTH level and TBS (β = − 0.0034; 95% confidence interval, − 0.0050 to − 0.0017). However, in the subgroup analysis stratified by gender, race, and age, this association became negative only in Non-Hispanic White (β = − 0.0047, 95% CI: − 0.0071 to − 0.0048) and young people (age

The exploration of sustainable and valuable by-products from industrial and agricultural processes is increasingly recognized for its economic, environmental and health advantages. This review examines the phytochemical constituents, biological properties, current applications and future directions of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) leaf (PGL). PGL exhibits broad biological activities, aiding in managing health conditions like chronic diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and neurological disorders. Anti-cancer and anti-diabetic effects are demonstrated in vitro and in vivo using animal models. Anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties are also observed in cell cultures and animal studies. Its anti-microbial properties show efficacy against pathogens. However, variability in phytochemical composition due to different extraction methods and environmental conditions poses challenges for standardization. The review underscores the urgent need for comprehensive human clinical trials to confirm PGL's therapeutic benefits and safety, calling for future research to fully harness PGL's potential as a sustainable and bioactive compound in various industrial applications.

The non-stationary Karpman–Washimi ponderomotive force and self-generated magnetic field in an unmagnetized system are investigated in the context of nonextensive distribution based on the kinetic theory. The ponderomotive force, magnetization, and radiation power are obtained as functions of the nonextensive parameter q, wave frequency, and wave number. It is shown that the presence of high-velocity electrons leads to an increase in temporal and spatial variation parts of ponderomotive force, magnetization, and radiation power. Furthermore, the results indicate that the self-generated magnetic field driven by the Karpman–Washimi ponderomotive force primarily manifests as small-scale and low-frequency magnetic field.

Natural plant fibers are hierarchical structures with multi-level microstructures. With advances in composite material science, these fibers have been widely used in various polymer products. Therefore, it is crucial to quantitatively understand the relationship between their microstructures and mechanical behavior. This paper utilizes the Mori-Tanaka micromechanics model, viscoelasticity theory, and Zakian’s inversion method to study the impact of plant fiber microstructure on the viscoelastic behavior of multiscale structures. At the microscopic scale, the macromolecular polymer (matrix) and cellulose (fiber) are first homogenized. The second homogenization involves the cell wall microstructure, and the third homogenization considers the porosity of the cell wall and lumen to predict the effective modulus of fiber bundles. By applying the principle of elastic-viscoelastic correspondence, the viscoelastic mechanical parameters of plant fibers are calculated. The study examines the effects of cellulose crystallinity and lumen porosity on the structural stiffness and viscoelastic properties of fibers, identifying these factors as key influences on the mechanical behavior of plant fibers. Given their significant economic potential, the feasibility of using tobacco plant fibers as bio-based materials is also explored.

Morphine is a classic opioid analgesic drug commonly used to treat chronic pain, cancer pain, neuropathic pain, etc. But repeated use can be addictive, this makes its clinical use severely limited. Morphine addiction has become a major global public health problem leading to the spread of some diseases. However, the mechanisms of morphine addiction are still not fully understood. An ion channel is a protein structure on the cell membrane, similar to a gate between inside and outside of the cell, that selectively allows some ions to enter and exit the cell. Current research shows that voltage-gated, ligand-gated and mechanically gated ion channels are all involved in the mechanism of morphine addiction. Therefore, this paper reviews the mechanism of voltage-gated, ligand-gated and mechanically gated ion channel for morphine addiction.

ObjectiveTo explore the influence of excessive weight gain during pregnancy in pre-pregnancy overweight and obese women on pregnancy outcomes and neonatal conditions， and to provide scientific evidence for formulating weight management strategies before and during pregnancy and prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes.MethodsClinical data of 2 172 parturients collected from a community in Huangpu District from 2017 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed， and they were divided into pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity group （n=530）， normal pre-pregnancy weight group（n=937）， and underweight pre-pregnancy group（n=705） according to maternal precursor body mass index （BMI）. Based on their weight gain during pregnancy，the parturient were divided into moderate gestational weight gain （MGWG） group and excessive gestational weight gain （EGWG） group. Meanwhile， the pregnancy and neonatal outcomes such as postpartum hemorrhage， puerperal infection， placental abruption， premature rupture of membranes， mode of delivery， premature birth， stillbirth， fetal distress， admission to the intensive care unit （ICU）， macrosomia， and Apgar score， were recorded. Then the differences in pregnancy and neonatal outcomes between groups were compared. Abstract Dark matter can be boosted by high energy particles in astrophysical environments through elastic scattering. We study the production of boosted dark matter via scattering with electrons in the relativistic jet of the closest active galactic nucleus, Centaurus A, and its detection in the Super-Kamiokande experiment. Since there are a huge number of electrons in the jet and dark matter is extremely dense around the supermassive black hole that powers the jet, the number of boosted dark matter is tremendously large. Compared to boosted dark matter from blazars, the dark matter flux from Centaurus A is enhanced due to the proximity of Centaurus A. The constraint on dark matter-electron scattering cross section set by Super-Kamiokande is more stringent, down to ∼ 10 −36 cm2 for MeV dark matter.

Biomass and its derivatives have broad applications in the fields of bio-catalysis, energy storage, environmental remediation. The structure and components of biomass, which are vital parameters affecting corresponding performances of derived products, need to be fully understood for further regulating the biomass and its derivatives. Herein, tobacco is taken as an example of biomass to introduce the typical characterization techniques in unraveling the structural information, chemical components, and properties of biomass and its derivatives. Firstly, the structural information, chemical components and application for biomass are summarized. Then the characterization techniques together with the resultant structural information and chemical components are introduced. Finally, to promote a wide and deep study in this field, the perspectives and challenges concerning structure and composition charaterization in biomass and its derivatives are put forward.

Tobacco, a widely cultivated crop, has been extensively utilized by humans for an extended period. However, the tobacco industry generates a significant amount of organic waste, and the effective utilization of this tobacco waste has been limited. Currently, most tobacco waste is either recycled as reconstituted tobacco sheets or disposed of in landfills. However, tobacco possesses far more potential value than just these applications. This article provides an overview of the diverse uses of tobacco waste in agriculture, medicine, chemical engineering, and energy sectors. In the realm of agriculture, tobacco waste finds primary application as fertilizers and pesticides. In medical applications, the bioactive compounds present in tobacco are fully harnessed, resulting in the production of phenols, solanesol, polysaccharides, proteins, and even alkaloids. These bioactive compounds exhibit beneficial effects on human health. Additionally, the applications of tobacco waste in chemical engineering and energy sectors are centered around the utilization of lignocellulosic compounds and certain fuels. Chemical platform compounds derived from tobacco waste, as well as selected fuel sources, play a significant role in these areas. The rational utilization of tobacco waste represents a promising prospect, particularly in the present era when sustainable development is widely advocated. Moreover, this approach holds significant importance for enhancing energy utilization.

Pyrethroids (PYs) are widely applied pesticides whose residues pose potential health risks. This review describes current knowledge on PY chemical properties, usage patterns, environmental and food contamination, and human exposure models. It evaluates life cycle assessment (LCA), chemical alternatives assessment (CAA), and high-throughput screening (HTS) as tools for pesticide policy. Despite efforts to mitigate PY presence, their pervasive residues in the environment and food persist. And the highest concentrations ranged from 54,360 to 80,500 ng/L in water samples from agricultural fields. Food processing techniques variably reduce PY levels, yet no method guarantees complete elimination. This review provides insights into the fates and exposure pathways of PY residues in agriculture and food, and highlights the necessity for improved PY management and alternative practices to safeguard health and environment.

Abstract Background Subglottic Stenosis (SGS), with increasing numbers of studies, is the most specific and common clinical type of Laryngotracheal Stenosis (LTS). There is rapid publication turnover with newer management introduced and expanding research field. To our knowledge, there is no bibliometric analysis of SGS yet. Methods In August 2022, we performed a thorough search in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the word “subglottic stenosis,” and “SGS.” The 580 articles were arranged based on correlation. The collected articles were then analyzed with an assessment of relevant factors. Meanwhile, we analyzed the top 100 most-cited articles on SGS. Results The frequency of publication on SGS has increased substantially over time. The USA has contributed the most articles (n = 301). Vanderbilt University published most of the articles among other institutions (n = 18). Laryngoscope topped the list of journals and has published 89 SGS-related articles. Research hotspots shift from surgical treatment to conservative management. Conclusions The SGS-related literature has grown rapidly in recent years. This study represents the first bibliometric analysis of scientific articles on SGS. Areas to improve in SGS research can be identified after this analysis of the most impactful articles on this topic.

IntroductionIn the context of the deep coupling and synergistic development of digital villages and healthy villages, the development of China’s rural society harbors a huge potential for medical and healthcare consumption.MethodsOn the basis of theoretical research, a framework was constructed to analyze the influence mechanism of farmers’ medical and healthcare consumption in the context of Internet medical information overflow, and empirically examines the research and analysis framework by using the 2020 China Household Tracking Survey data with the OLS model, mediation effect model, and instrumental variable method.ResultsIt is found that Internet medical information spillover has a “crowding-in effect” on farmers’ healthcare consumption; Medical attendance behavior, economic capital utilize the intermediary effect between Internet medical information spillover and farmers’ healthcare consumption. And there is age group heterogeneity in the effect of Internet medical information spillover on farmers’ healthcare consumption, The ability of rural middle-aged and old-aged groups to recognize new things such as Internet medical information needs to be improved, so the overflow of Internet medical information will induce rural middle-aged and old-aged groups to generate a certain amount of medical and health care consumption. However, the impact on healthcare consumption is not sensitive to the youth cohort group.DiscussionThe sinking of Internet medical resources should be accelerated in the future to promote the high-quality development of rural medical and health services, at the same time the “Internet + healthcare services” should be optimized to promote scientific and rational stratification of farmers’ access to healthcare, and economic capital for farmers’ access to health care should be improved in order to alleviate the burden of health care, etc.

“Golden-flower” Tibetan tea (GTT) is an innovative dark tea fermented via fungus Eurotium cristatum. To study GTT effects on alleviating the symptoms of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), GTT's extract (GTTE) was prepared. GTTE chemical compositions were analyzed via HPLC, pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass (Py-GC-MS) spectrometry analysis, and chemistry analyses. GTTE effects on T1DM were explored on T1DM mice model induced by streptozotocin (STZ). GTTE was composed mainly of tea pigment theabrownin (TB) (49.18%), with high percentages of polysaccharide (16.93%), protein (10.15%), polyphenols (13.90%), amino acids (5.89%), caffeine (1.83%), and flavonoids (0.67%). Py-GC-MS results exhibited that GTTE constituted of phenols, lipids, sugars, and proteins. GTTE attenuated T1DM conditions of mice, relieved their liver and pancreatic injury, restored damaged islet cells, decreased oxidative stress by increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) levels, modulated cytokine expression leading to the decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6, increased anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4 to improve inflammatory responses, and optimized gut microbiota composition and structure based on high-throughput 16S rDNA sequencing, suggesting multi-channel anti-diabetes mechanisms.

Anthocyanidins and flavonoids are important components in plant. In present study, the anthocyanidins and flavonoids in black hulless barley bran were identified by operating UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. Among them, chrysoeriol 7-O-glucouronid, luteolin 7-O-glucouronid, chrysoeriol, and luteolin were quantified by using UPLC. Additionally, the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoids content (TFC) and total anthocyanin content (TAC) were determined. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity (via ferric reducing, DPPH and ABTS method) and α-glucosidase inhibition effect were estimated. From the results, fifty-one constituents comprised 19 anthocyanidins and 32 flavonoids were detected in hulless barley bran fractions. Wherein compounds 1 and 9–19 (belong to anthocyanidins), and 21, 25–32, 35–42, 44–50 (belong to flavonoids) were first identified in hulless barley. The contents of chrysoeriol 7-O-glucouronid luteolin 7-O-glucouronid, chrysoeriol and luteolin were higher in E80% than that of in E40%, but were not detected in E20%. Another, the TAC exhibited the trend of E40% > E80% > E20%, and the TPC and TFC showed same trend of E40% > E20% > E80%. The higher TPC and TFC showed stronger antioxidant activity. However, no significant correlation between TAC, TPC, TFC and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was observed. These results provided the anthocyanidins and flavonoids information, antioxidant value and α-glucosidase inhibition potential, which could provide reference in the development of black hulless barley bran.

Constipation, a widespread gastrointestinal disorder, often leads to the exploration of natural remedies. This study examines the efficacy of Golden Flower Tibetan Tea Polysaccharides (GFTTPs) in alleviating constipation in mice. Chemical analyses reveal that GFTTPs possess O-H, carboxyl, carboxylic acid (-COOH), and C-O-C groups, alongside a porous crystal structure with thermal stability. In animal experiments, GFTTPs significantly upregulated aquaporin 3 (AQP3) and aquaporin 8 (AQP8) expressions in the colon, enhancing water absorption and reducing fecal water content. At a 400 mg/kg dosage, GFTTPs notably improved colonic tissue alterations and serum levels of excitatory neurotransmitters caused by loperamide hydrochloride. They also beneficially altered gut microbiota, increasing Coprococcus, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus populations. These changes correlated with improved stool frequency, consistency, and weight in constipated mice. Importantly, GFTTPs at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses exhibited comparable effects to the normal control group in key parameters, such as gastrointestinal transit rate and fecal moisture. These findings suggest that GFTTPs may serve as a potent natural remedy for constipation, offering significant therapeutic potential within the context of gut health and with promising implications for human applications.

The contents of polysaccharides, triterpenes, ganoderic acid A, ganoderic acid C1 and ganoderic acid F in Kangding Ganoderma leucocontextum were analyzed by pharmacopoeia and HPLC. The antioxidant activities were evaluated by DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging abilities and total antioxidant capacity, and hypoglycemic activities were evaluated by the inhibitory effect on α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities. The results showed that the contents of polysaccharides and triterpenes in Kangding Ganoderma leucocontextum were 1.15% and 1.50%, and the contents of ganoderic acid A, ganoderic acid C1 and ganoderic acid F were 0.052%, 0.020% and 0.064%, respectively. The antioxidant activities and hypoglycemic activities in vitro showed that IC50 values of polysaccharide extract for DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging were 0.75 mg/mL and 1.24 mg/mL, and IC50 values of α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities were 1.45 mg/mL and 1.97 mg/mL, respectively. The IC50 values of triterpenoids extract for DPPH· and ABTS+· radical scavenging were 0.65 mg/mL and 1.06 mg/mL, and the IC50 values of α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities were 1.44 mg/mL and 1.09 mg/mL, respectively. The results of this study show that Kangding Ganoderma leucocontextum contain high content of functional components, and presented favourable antioxidant and hypoglycemic activities, which would provide the theoretical basis for the development and utilization of Kangding Ganoderma leucocontextum in food, medicine and health products.

The phenolic components, antioxidation, and anticancer effects of different polar parts of ethanol extract of Jinhua Tibetan tea were studied. Three polar fractions, i.e., ethyl acetate, n-butyl alcohol, and water fractions, of ethanol extract of Jinhua Tibetan tea were obtained via liquid-liquid extraction process. The contents of total polyphenols and total flavonoids of the three fractions and ethanol extract were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride-potassium acetate method, respectively. The contents of tea polyphenol monomers in all the parts were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Their antioxidant activities of all the parts were tested and compared using DPPH radical scavenging, ABTS+ radical scavenging, and Fe2+ ion chelating methods. Their anti-proliferation effects on human cervical cancer HeLa cell were evaluated using cell counting Kit8. Results indicated that ethyl acetate fraction had the highest contents of total polyphenols and total flavonoids, as 384.65 mg/g and 188.82 mg/g, respectively, including gallic acid (GA), gallocatechin (GC), and epigallocatechin (EGC) as major phenolic monomers. Antioxidant activity test showed that compared with vitamin E, the DPPH and ABTS+ radical scavenging capacity of all the parts were as the sequence vitamin E>ethyl acetate fraction>n-butyl alcohol fraction>ethanol extract>water fraction, with Pethyl acetate fraction (332.4 µg/mL)>n-butyl alcohol fraction (1332.0 µg/mL)>ethanol extract (1846.0 µg/mL) and water fraction (1952.0 µg/mL), with P0.05. All the results indicated that the general antioxidant ability sequence was ethyl acetate fraction>n-butyl alcohol fraction>ethanol extract>water fraction. All the parts showed anti-proliferation activity to human cervical cancer HeLa cell, and all with dose-effect relationship. Ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest anti-proliferation activity (IC50 111.6 µg/mL) to the HeLa cell. In conclusion, ethyl acetate fraction possessed the strongest capacity of both antioxidation and anti-proliferation to HeLa cell, resulted from its highest contents of polyphenols and flavonoids. The studies provide some preliminary scientific evidence of the antioxidant and anticancer effects of Jinhua Tibetan tea.

The volatile aroma compounds of 15 representative dark tea products in Sichuan Province were analyzed by sensory evaluation and headspace solid phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromato graphy-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in this study. The results showed that ''stale flavor'' were the main aromatic aroma type of Sichuan dark tea, other tea samples had glutinous rice aroma, sweet , sour gas and smoky, which were typical of dark tea. A total of 121 aroma components were detected in the dark teas,and the major aroma compounds were alkenes (5.41%~42.38%), aldehydes (7.26%~19.97%), ketones (6.68%~39.26%) and alcohols (14.03%~27.06%). 7 principal components were extracted from the 32 common aroma components byprincipal component analysis（principal component analysis, PCA） and the total contribution attained 84.27%. Characteristic aroma components included β-ionone, 1-octen-3-ol, 2,3-dihydro-2,2,6-trimethyl,5,6-epoxy-β-ionone, geranylacetone, 3,5-octadienone (E,E), trans-2-octenal, 2-n-pentylfuran, which played important roles in the aromatic characteristics of strong and pure ''stale flavor'' of Sichuan dark tea. Relative odor activity value (ROAV) was used to evaluate the contribution of aroma components to flavor characteristics of Sichuan dark tea. It was found that the ROAV values of (E,E)-2, 4-heptadienal, linalool, geraniyl acetone, α-ionone and 1-octene-3-ol were greater than 1. The above components made great contributions to the formation of aroma characteristics of Sichuan dark tea. This study could provide a theoretical reference for research on characteristic aroma formation and quality evaluation of Sichuan dark tea.

To construct an index system for evaluating the supply of Internet+ public health services, and to provide a practical tool for assessing the supply of Internet+ public health services in an objective and scientific manner. The research team drafted the index system framework by combing the literature. The Delphi method was used to determine the content and weight of the index through two rounds of expert consultations. At the same time, the Cronbach coefficient and factor analysis were adopted to test the reliability and validity. What's more, the analytic hierarchy process and the TOPSIS method were applied to analyze the empirical data of 15 counties and cities in the eastern, central, and western regions of China. The constructed indicator system includes 3 first-level indicators, 6 second-level indicators and 29 third-level indicators. Through reliability and validity tests, the stability and practicability of the index system are demonstrated in empirical research. The evaluation index system constructed in this article can be applied to the performance evaluation of Internet + public health service.

(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) possesses potent antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. In this study, a novel glucose-modified EGCG encapsulated liposome (EGCG-Glu-Lip) was developed and characterized. EGCG-Glu-Lip liposome’s cytotoxicity, brain targeting ability, and its antioxidative neuroprotection were examined via bEnd.3 and PC12 cells testing. EGCG-Glu-Lip liposome particle mean size was 158.7 nm, with encapsulation efficiency 73.05 % under EGCG/lipid mass ratio 1:22 and soybean phospholipids (SPC) to cholesterol (Chol) mass ratio 3.84:1. EGCG-Glu-Lip exhibited less cytotoxicity, stronger protection to PC12 cells from H2O2 induced oxidative damage, keeping reactive oxygen species (ROS) level. Glucose modified liposome (Glu-Lip) cellular uptake in bEnd.3 and PC12 cells were 1.5-fold and 1.3-fold higher than that of Lip, supporting EGCG-Glu-Lip possessing enhanced blood–brain barrier (BBB) permeability mediated via glucose transporter protein 1 (GLUT1) and neuronal cell uptake for brain targeting. EGCG-Glu-Lip could provide an efficient nano delivery pathway to deliver sufficient EGCG to brain tissue exerting its antioxidative neuroprotection more efficiently.

Phage contamination is one of the significant problems in the food fermentation industry, which eventually causes economic losses to the industry. Here, we investigated the viability of Lactobacillus plantarum phage P1 and P2 using various biocides treatments (ethanol, isopropanol, sodium hypochlorite and peracetic acid). Results indicated that phage P1 and P2 could be completely inactivated by treatment with 75% ethanol for 5 min, followed by 400 ppm of sodium hypochlorite treatment for 5 min. Phage P2 could be completely inactivated in the reverse sequence, while 800 ppm of sodium hypochlorite was required to achieve a similar effect for phage P1. Moreover, 100% isopropanol could increase the inactivating effect of 75% ethanol. This study may provide basic information on using multiple antimicrobials for phage control in laboratories and food plants.

Improvement of medical equipment’s’ function may contribute to the efficiency of nursing care in the general hospital. This paper introduced the design and application of a mobile nursing trolley, which consisted of a mobile computer and a medical trolley. Biotemplates are often used in the preparation of catalysts due to availability of raw materials and environment-friendly. Herein, three biomorphic CeO2 were prepared from waste tobacco materials and impregnated with 1 wt% Ru for the catalytic combustion of vinyl chloride. The results showed that the biotemplates greatly affected the properties of the catalysts. 1Ru/CeO2-YS exhibited the best catalytic activity and superior stability because of its abundant oxygen vacancies, sufficient acidic sites and the optimal redox properties. SEM images suggested that CeO2-YS and CeO2-YM maintained the basic structure of the biotemplates. Moreover, a possible reaction mechanism over Ru/CeO2 was proposed.

Key points The model simultaneously segments infarcts and estimates ASPECTS by using baseline CT. A mirror-assembly module plus dual-path DCNN model improved the segmentation efficiency. We evaluated the model in a multi-reader and multicenter (MRMC) setting.

In order to investigate the formation and changes of aroma components during the pile-fermentation of Jinhua Tibetan tea, chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to determine the volatile component, and sensory evaluation was used to test the flavor. Results showed that, 80 volatile compounds were identified from Jinhua Tibetan tea. The main aroma components were alcohols, acids, hydrocarbons, and heteroaxygens in the Mao'chao stage, which were alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbons, and others in the final stage. The main alcohol compounds such as 2,3-butanediol, cyclohexanol,2,5-dimethyl-, 2-decen-1-ol, (2E)-, 1,2,3-butanetriol disappeared over the fermentation. In S2 stage, limonene became the main volatile component, accounting for 85.4%. With the pile-fermentation of Jinhua Tibetan tea, alpha-terpineol, linalool and its oxides, which were associated with floral smell, decreased significantly. 1,2,3-trimethoxybenzene and alkenals, which were associated with woody and stale smell, increased significantly. The results of this study would lay a theoretical foundation for aroma characteristics of Jinhua Tibetan tea, and provide a reference for tea processing and quality control.

Veronica arvensis, which is an annual flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae, has commonly used as a Chinese herbal medicine to treat malaria in China. Here, the complete plastome of V. arvensis was successfully assembled based on genome skimming sequencing. The plastome of V. arvensis was 149,386 bp in length, comprising a pair of inverted repeats (IR; 24,946 bp) separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region (82,004 bp) and a small single-copy (SSC) region (17,490 bp). The plastid genome encoded 113 unique genes, consisting of 79 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes, with 19 duplicated genes in the IR regions. Six plastid hotspot regions (trnH-psbA, trnK-rps16, atpI-rps2, ndhF-rpl32, ccsA-ndhD and rps15-ycf1) were identified within Veronica. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the representative species from Veronica was monophyletic. V. persica and V. polita formed a maximum clade, followed by sister to V. arvensis.

In order to study the distribution of components (aqueous extract, alcohol precipitation and supernate) in the water extract of Tibetan tea after alcohol precipitation, the basic components, total polyphenols, total flavonoids, and tea pigments were comprehensively analyzed and compared. The contents of polyphenols were detected by high performance liquid chromatography, and the differences of DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging abilities and inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase digestive enzyme were investigated. Results indicated that the contents of total sugar (17.73 g/100 g), total polysaccharide (16.93 g/100 g), amino acid (5.89 g/100 g) and the abrownin (49.18 g/100 g) in the alcohol precipitation were significantly higher than those in the supernatant. However, the contents of total polyphenols (195.93 mg/g), total flavonoids (61.61 mg/g) and main polyphenols (GA, GC, EGC, C, CA, EC, EGCG, GCG, ECG and CG) in the supernatant were significantly higher than those in the alcohol precipitation. The results of antioxidant activity and digestive enzyme inhibition activity in vitro showed that the DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging ability of alcohol precipitate was lower than that of supernatant, while had higher inhibition ability of α-glucosidase. The supernatant of Tibetan tea after alcohol precipitation had strong antioxidant activity, while the alcohol precipitation had strong digestive enzymes (α-glucosidase) inhibition activity.

Phage P2 was isolated from failed fermentation broth carried out by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum IMAU10120. A previous study in our laboratory showed that this phage belonged to the Siphoviridae family. In this study, this phage’s genomic characteristics were analyzed using whole-genome sequencing. It was revealed that phage P2 was 77.9 kb in length and had 39.28% G + C content. Its genome included 96 coding sequences (CDS) and two tRNA genes involved in the function of the structure, DNA replication, packaging, and regulation. Phage P2 had higher host specificity; many tested strains were not infected. Cell wall adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption receptor component of phage P2 might be a part of the cell wall peptidoglycan. This research might enrich the knowledge about genomic information of lactobacillus phages and provide some primary data to establish phage control measures.

Abstract Background This study aimed to reveal the associations of osteoporotic vertebral compression refracture (OVCRF) incidence with sarcopenia and paravertebral muscles (PVM). Methods A total of 214 elderly patients who underwent percutaneous kyphoplasty in our hospital between January 2017 and December 2019 were analyzed. Data on possible risk factors, including sex, age, weight, height, diabetes, treated vertebral levels (thoracolumbar junction [(T10–L2]), vacuum clefts, and body mass index (BMI), were collected. Preoperative bone mineral density (BMD) and appendicular muscle mass were evaluated using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Nutritional status was evaluated using the Mini Nutritional Assessment. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to evaluate the physiological cross-sectional area of the PVM. Results Overall, 74 (15 men and 59 women) and 60 (55 women and 14 men) patients developed OVCRF and sarcopenia, respectively. Sarcopenia is related to advanced age, ower BMD and BMI values. Sarcopenia-related indicators (PVM fat rate, appendicular muscle mass index, grip strength) were significantly lower in the sarcopenia group. Univariate analysis showed a correlation between OVCRF and BMD, BMI, diabetes, sarcopenia, and age. Multivariate analysis suggested that fatty infiltration of the PVM, BMD, sarcopenia, diabetes, BMI, and treated vertebral level remained as the independent predictors of OVCRF (p

The properties of dust inertial Alfvén waves (DIAWs) in a dusty plasma with the effects of polarization force are investigated. First, the dispersion equation is obtained from the fluid equations by considering the polarization force. Then, the energy balance equation is deduced by applying the Sagdeev pseudopotential method. It is shown that the polarization force affects the characteristics of DIAWs as well as the pseudopotential significantly. In addition, the existence of the polarization force changes the width of DIAWs. The present results may be helpful in further understanding the effect of polarization forces on the formation of linear and nonlinear structures of Alfvén waves in the laboratory plasma, astrophysical dusty plasma systems, planetary ring systems, cometary tails, etc.

Abstract Chronic inflammatory diseases, such as intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), which affect the lives of hundreds of millions of people, still lack effective and precise treatments. In this study, a novel hydrogel system with many extraordinary properties is developed for gene–cell combination therapy of IVDD. Phenylboronic acid‐modified G5 PAMAM (G5‐PBA) is first synthesized, and therapeutic siRNA silencing the expression of P65 mixed with G5‐PBA (siRNA@G5‐PBA) is then embedded into the hydrogel (siRNA@G5‐PBA@Gel) based on multi‐dynamic bonds including acyl hydrazone bonds, imine linkage, π–π stacking, and hydrogen bonding interactions. Local and acidic inflammatory microenvironment‐responsive gene‐drug release can achieve spatiotemporal regulation of gene expression. In addition, gene‐drug release from the hydrogel can be sustained for more than 28 days in vitro and in vivo, greatly inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory factors and the subsequent degeneration of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Through prolonged inhibition of the P65/NLRP3 signaling pathway, the siRNA@G5‐PBA@Gel is verified to relieve inflammatory storms, which can significantly enhance the regeneration of IVD when combined with cell therapy. Overall, this study proposes an innovative system for gene–cell combination therapy and a precise and minimally invasive treatment method for IVD regeneration.

This paper investigates the impact of trajectory predictor performance on the encounter probability generated by an adaptive conflict detection tool and examines the flexibility of the tool dependent on its adjustable thresholds, using historical radar track data. To achieve these objectives, two figures of merit were proposed: System Dynamic Range and System Tuning Envelope. To examine the conflict detection’s performance variability under different uncertainty levels and predictor types, simple multi-horizon trajectory predictors trained with two machine learning techniques of different characteristics are assessed at various look-ahead times: extreme gradient boosting with a discrete nature and a multi-layer perceptron regressor with a continuous nature. The results highlight the interdependence between the performances of the trajectory predictor and the conflict detector, and the quantification of this relationship can be represented through a sigmoid function. In addition, the two proposed figures of merit are effective for selecting suitable operating points in an adaptive conflict detector, based on dynamic thresholds and the performance requirements necessary for the trajectory predictors to achieve the expected detection performance at different look-ahead time.

Penthorum chinense Pursh (Penthoraceae) is a traditional herb used in Miao medical systems that is also processed into foods (e.g., tea products) in China. Different processing methods significantly affect the volatile compounds, phenolic constituents, and biological activities. This study aimed to produce P. chinense green tea leaves (GTL), black tea leaves (BTL), and untreated leaves (UL) to investigate differences in their flavor substances, functional components, antioxidant activity, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity, and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity. The results showed that 63, 56, and 56 volatile compounds were detected in UL, GTL, and BTL, respectively, of which 43 volatile compounds were identified as differential metabolites among them. The total phenolic content (97.13–179.34 mg GAE/g DW), flavonoid content (40.07–71.93 mg RE/g DW), and proanthocyanidin content (54.13–65.91 mg CE/g DW) exhibited similar trends, decreasing in the order of UL > BTL > GTL. Fourteen phenolic compounds were determined, of which gallic acid, (−)-epicatechin, and pinocembrin 7-O-glucoside showed a sharp decrease in content from UL to BTL, while the content of pinocembrin 7-O-(3″-O-galloy-4″, 6″-hexahydroxydiphenoyl)-glucoside and pinocembrin significantly increased. GTL showed better DPPH/ABTS·+ scavenging ability and ferric-reducing ability than UL. The ADH and ALDH activities decreased in the order of GTL > UL > BTL. Therefore, tea products made with P. chinense leaves contained an abundance of functional compounds and showed satisfactory antioxidant and hepatoprotective activities, which are recommended for daily consumption.

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) are mainly induced by oxidative stress which produces excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). Quercetin (QU) is a potent antioxidant with some effects on NDDs. This study prepared and characterized a novel glucose-modified QU liposome (QU–Glu–Lip), aiming not only to overcome QU’s poor water solubility and bioavailability but also to deliver more QU to brain tissue to enhance its neuroprotective effect. QU–Glu–Lip possessed encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 89.9%, homogenous particle sizes (116–124 nm), small PDI value (2O2-induced oxidative damage to PC12 with higher cell viability (88.42%) and lower intracellular ROS compared to that of QU. QU–Glu–Lip had higher brain target ability and delivered more QU to neuronal cells, effectively exerting the antioxidative neuroprotection effect. There is potential for the QU–Glu–Lip application for more effective treatment of NDDs.

Additionally, artificial enzymes (nanozymes) have favors above natural enzymes, for example, the effortless yield on a big scale, low costs, and high stability in coarse surrounds. The amount of antibiotic repellent microorganisms has activated big concern in the growth of stuff with essential bactericide potentials such as metal or metal oxide nanoparticles, cationic polymeric compounds, graphene oxide, and other carbon materials that can be used as antibacterial agents by altering cell morphology. In this report, we have summarized catalytic antibacterial strategies by natural enzymes, artificial enzymes, or photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the demands and hereafter contents about catalytic antibacterial strategies are supposed in this report.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) refers to the aging and degenerative diseases of intervertebral disc components such as nucleus pulposus, annulus fibrosus, and cartilage endplate, and is the main cause of chronic low back pain. Over the past few years, many researchers around the world concerned that the degeneration of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells plays the main role in IVDD. The degeneration of NP cells is caused by a series of pathological processes, including oxidative stress, inflammatory response, apoptosis, abnormal proliferation, and autophagy. Interestingly, many studies have found a close relationship between the senescence of NP cells and the progression of NP degeneration. The classical aging pathways also have been confirmed to be involved in the pathological process of IVDD. Moreover, several anti-aging drugs have been used to treat IVDD by inhibiting NP cells senescence, such as proanthocyanidins, resveratrol and bone morphogenetic protein 2. Therefore, this article will systematically list and discuss aging, cell senescence, the pathogenesis and targeted therapies of IVDD, in order to provide new ideas for the treatment of IVDD in the future.

In this study, we employed a chemical precipitation method to successfully synthesize nanoparticles of gallium-doped hydroxyapatite (Ga-HAp). The microstructure of Ga-HAp was precisely tailored by modulating the concentration of gallium ions. Our findings unequivocally demonstrate that gallium ions exert a pronounced inhibitory influence on the growth of HAp crystals, and this inhibitory potency exhibits a direct correlation with the concentration of gallium. Furthermore, gallium ions facilitate the metamorphosis of HAp nanoparticles, transitioning them from nanoneedles to nanosheets. It is worth noting, however, that gallium ions exhibit a limited capacity to substitute for calcium ions within the crystal lattice of HAp, with the maximum substitution rate capped at 4.85%. Additionally, gallium plays a pivotal role in constraining the release of ions from HAp, and this behavior remains consistent across samples with varying Ga doping concentrations. Our in vitro experiments confirm that Ga-doped HAp amplifies both the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.

In view of the problems in yarn-dyed fabric defect detection such as difficulty in obtaining a large number of labeled defect data and serious over inspection, an image reconstruction and repair model based on unsupervised adversarial learning was proposed, and the defect detection of yarn-dyed fabric was realized through the residual analysis between the reconstructed image and the original image. Firstly, the defect reconstruction and repair model based on generative adversarial networks (GAN) was constructed, and defect-free yarn-dyed fabric samples after adding Gaussian noise were used to train the model, so that the model can effectively reconstruct the defect-free samples. Then, the reconstructed image is obtained by inputting the yarn-dyed fabric sample imagel, and the residual image between the tested sample and its corresponding reconstructed image was further obtained. Finally, through the threshold segmentation and mathematical morphology operation of the residual image, the rapid detection and location of the defect region was realized. The experimental results show that the method can detect and locate the defect area of dyed fabrics by analyzing the residual between the reconstructed image and the original image without marking the defect samples.

Abstract Background The depth of cervical stromal invasion is one of the important prognostic factors affecting decision-making for early stage cervical cancer (CC). This study aimed to develop and validate a T2-weighted imaging (T2WI)-based radiomics model and explore independent risk factors (factors with statistical significance in both univariate and multivariate analyses) of middle or deep stromal invasion in early stage CC. Methods Between March 2017 and March 2021, a total of 234 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics IB1-IIA1 CC patients were enrolled and randomly divided into a training cohort (n = 188) and a validation cohort (n = 46). The radiomics features of each patient were extracted from preoperative sagittal T2WI, and key features were selected. After independent risk factors were identified, a combined model and nomogram incorporating radiomics signature and independent risk factors were developed. Diagnostic accuracy of radiologists was also evaluated. Results The maximal tumor diameter (MTD) on magnetic resonance imaging was identified as an independent risk factor. In the validation cohort, the radiomics model, MTD, and combined model showed areas under the curve of 0.879, 0.844, and 0.886. The radiomics model and combined model showed the same sensitivity and specificity of 87.9% and 84.6%, which were better than radiologists (sensitivity, senior = 75.7%, junior = 63.6%; specificity, senior = 69.2%, junior = 53.8%) and MTD (sensitivity = 69.7%, specificity = 76.9%). Conclusion MRI-based radiomics analysis outperformed radiologists for the preoperative diagnosis of middle or deep stromal invasion in early stage CC, and the probability can be individually evaluated by a nomogram.

An intimate understanding of the temperature distribution of turbine components is required for advanced and efficient cooling systems and blade designs. Regarding the micro turbine, the stronger tip-leakage flow caused by the dimensional effect has a non-negligible impact on the flow structure in the rotor, which can modify the hot-streak migration and its influence on the turbine. In this study, a numerical simulation is performed on a 1-stage high subsonic micro axial turbine to investigate the effect of tip-clearance height on hot-streak migration. The results show that, in the micro rotor, the relative radial hot-streak migration (towards the blade tip) caused by tip leakage exists a linear relationship between this migration and the clearance height within limits. The hot-streak migration at the blade tip is influenced by the changing of leakage flow and induced vortex, which will change the temperature distribution on the blade surface and tip area. The increase of clearance height will magnify the range of the relative total temperature fluctuation at the rotor-blade surface. An increase of 4.8%h for clearance will lead to an increase of 53.3% (10.4 K from 19.5 K) for the range of the fluctuation.

Mitochondrial dysfunction causes the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative damage, and oxidative stress and inflammation are considered key factors causing intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). Thus, restoring the mitochondrial dysfunction is an attractive strategy for treating IVDD. Platelet-derived extracellular vesicles (PEVs) are nanoparticles that target inflammation. Moreover, the vesicles produced by platelets (PLTs) have considerable anti-inflammatory effects. We investigate the use of PEVs as a therapeutic strategy for IVDD in this study. We extract PEVs and evaluate their properties; test their effects on H2O2-induced oxidative damage of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells; verify the role of PEVs in repairing H2O2-induced cellular mitochondrial dysfunction; and demonstrate the therapeutic effects of PEVs in a rat IVDD model. The results confirm that PEVs can restore impaired mitochondrial function, reduce oxidative stress, and restore cell metabolism by regulating the sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)-peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1α (PGC1α)-mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) pathway; in rat models, PEVs retard the progression of IVDD. Our results demonstrate that the injection of PEVs can be a promising strategy for treating patients with IVDD.
