Objetivo. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar la producción científica que aborda la intersección entre las temáticas multiculturalidad y liderazgo en contextos escolares, a través de una revisión sistemática. Metodología. Se identifican los estudios que exploran el cruce entre ambos fenómenos en escuelas públicas; se clasifican los objetivos de investigación de los estudios revisados, y categorizan los estudios según sus atributos bibliométricos principales, aproximaciones conceptuales al multiculturalismo, y figuras asociadas al rol de liderazgo. La revisión contempló 104 documentos publicados en los últimos 25 años (1994-2019), con empleo de la metodología PRISMA. Resultados. Se identifican tendencias y desafíos de la investigación educativa en este campo, entre los que destacan que la mayor parte de los estudios se enfocan tanto en los discursos de las comunidades escolares frente a sus problemáticas, como en los procesos de toma de decisión o acciones conducidas en estos contextos. Asimismo, se aprecia que la producción científica se concentra en países angloparlantes (68%), con predominancia de estudios realizados en EE.UU. A su vez, una gran proporción de los estudios se aproxima al multiculturalismo desde perspectivas centradas en temáticas indígenas e identifican como figura de liderazgo a los equipos directivos. Conclusiones. Estos resultados manifiestan la necesidad de mayores estudios en dimensiones poco abordadas, en particular que consideren la multiculturalidad desde la diversidad de género o socioeconómica, así como el liderazgo escolar con mayor énfasis en este rol por parte de docentes, en virtud de escenarios educativos cada vez más diversos.

En este libro se encuentra la experiencia obtenida de distintos ejercicios de investigación realizados por estudiantes de la Especialización en Psicología Educativa de la Universidad Católica de Colombia. Se trata de una muestra de la responsabilidad social y formativa del programa, en la cual se abordan temáticas de alto impacto personal, profesional y social-comunitario en diferentes ámbitos psicoeducativos. Las temáticas tratadas en este texto son una muestra del compromiso con el mejoramiento de la calidad de la educación, pues en las distintas experiencias se identifican situaciones de alto impacto, y a partir de ellas se desarrolla un análisis crítico para la formulación de propuestas que entiendan las problemáticas y que aporten los elementos necesarios para su superación. En este capítulo se presentan los resultados de la investigación acerca del estrés laboral en docentes que tuvo lugar en el Gimnasio los Robles, el Gimnasio las Palmas y en instituciones de educación superior como la Universidad Católica de Colombia y la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios en Bogotá. Para este trabajo, se evaluó el síndrome de burnout a partir del cuestionario Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach, 1986), constituido por 22 ítems agrupados en tres dimensiones: cansancio o agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y realización personal. Se contó con una muestra de 40 docentes (16 hombres y 24 mujeres) con edades entre los 25 y los 58 años, y se utilizó el programa SPSS para identificar, según los datos sociodemográficos en relación con las dimensiones (agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y realización personal), quién presentaba burnout. Dentro de los resultados, se logró identificar que 30 de los docentes evaluados presentaron ausencia de burnout, puesto que en las dimensiones la mayor frecuencia fue de un nivel “medio”. Esto de alguna manera resulta contradictorio por las características sociodemográficas de los participantes, quienes en su mayoría estaban vinculados a mínimo dos trabajos, con horas de clase en educación media y educación superior. De este grupo, los que trabajaban en colegio presentaron mayores índices en las variables de agotamiento emocional y despersonalización, y una característica común es que trabajaban entre 9 y 13 horas diarias. Todas estas variables son propias del síndrome de burnout.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to explore the conditions and challenges that facilitate teacher professional learning through the implementation of pedagogical mentoring (PM) within the Chilean school context.Design/methodology/approachThis study employed a qualitative methods approach, utilizing an instrumental case study. As the primary data source, researchers conducted 14 individual, semistructured interviews. Participants included two comentors, six mentor teachers and six mentee teachers from two K-8 focal school sites. Data were examined using the content analysis method.FindingsResults revealed five aspects that contributed to PM's execution: the voluntary participation model, the reflective emphasis, the focus on teaching and learning, the facilitating role of the principal and comentor support. At the same time, the findings indicated three factors that hindered PM's success: interruptions due to schedule conflicts, limited dissemination throughout the school community and assimilation of the values embedded in the Chilean teacher evaluation system.Practical implicationsPM holds great potential for collaborative professional development and continuous improvement of teachers' instructional practices, drawing on their experiences and resources and leading to the strengthening sense of professionalism in teaching and in teachers' social esteem.Originality/valueThis is the first research to address a formal PM project in Chile aimed specifically at in-service teachers. Previous projects in the country have focused on novice teachers. Unlike other initiatives in the region, this project does not focus on teacher induction but on capacity building within schools through collaborative work. This research also adopts an approach based on support for teachers' professional development, while in Chile the main policies currently focus on teacher evaluation.

Introduction: Patients (pts) with CLL may be at particular risk of severe COVID-19 given advanced age and immune dysregulation. Two large series with limited follow-up have reported outcomes for pts with CLL and COVID-19 (Scarfò, et al. Leukemia 2020; Mato, et al. Blood 2020). To provide maximal clarity on outcomes for pts with CLL and COVID-19, we partnered in a worldwide effort to describe the clinical experience and validate predictors of survival, including potential treatment effects. Methods: This international collaboration represents a partnership between investigators at 141 centers. Data are presented in two cohorts. Cohort 1 (Co1) includes pts captured through efforts by European Research Initiative on CLL (ERIC), Italian CAMPUS CLL Program, and Grupo Español de Leucemia Linfática Crónica. The validation cohort, Cohort 2 (Co2), includes pts from US (66%), UK (23%), EU (7%), and other countries (4%). There is no overlap in cases between cohorts. CLL pts were included if COVID-19 was diagnosed by PCR detection of SARS-CoV-2 and they required inpatient hospitalization. Data were collected retrospectively 2/2020 - 5/2020 using standardized case report forms. Baseline characteristics, preexisting comorbidities (including cumulative illness rating scale (CIRS) score ≥6 vs. The primary endpoint of this study was to estimate the case fatality rate (CFR), defined as the proportion of pts who died among all pts hospitalized with COVID-19. Chi-squared test was used to compare frequencies; univariable and multivariable analyses utilized Cox regression. Predictors of inferior OS in both Co1 and Co2 were included in multivariable analyses. Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate overall survival (OS) from time of COVID-19 diagnosis (dx). Results: 411 hospitalized, COVID-19 positive CLL pts were analyzed (Co1 n=281, Co2 n=130). Table 1 describes baseline characteristics. At COVID-19 dx, median age was 72 in Co1 (range 37-94) and 68 in Co2 (range 41-98); 31% (Co1) and 45% (Co2) had CIRS ≥6. In Co1, 48% were treatment-naïve and 26% were receiving CLL-directed therapy at COVID-19 dx (66% BTKi ± anti-CD20, 19% Venetoclax ± anti-CD20, 9.6% chemo/chemoimmunotherapy (CIT), 1.4% PI3Ki, 4% other). In Co2, 36% were never treated and 49% were receiving CLL-directed therapy (65% BTKi ± anti-CD20, 19% Venetoclax ± anti-CD20, 9.4% multi-novel agent combinations, 1.6% CIT, 1.6% PI3Ki, 1.6% anti-CD20 monotherapy, 1.6% other). Most pts receiving CLL-directed therapy had it held at COVID-19 diagnosis (93% in Co1 and 81% in Co2). Frequency of most COVID-19 symptoms/laboratory abnormalities were similar in the two cohorts including fever (88% in both), lymphocytosis (ALC ≥30 x 109/L; 27% vs. 21%), and lymphocytopenia (ALC < 1.0 x 109/L; 18% vs. 28%), while others varied between Co1 and Co2 (p Median follow-up was 24 days (range 2-86) in Co1 and 17 days (1-43) in Co2. CFRs were similar in Co1 and Co2, 30% and 34% (p=0.45). 54% and 43% were discharged while 16% and 23% remained admitted at last follow-up in Co1 and Co2, respectively. The proportion of pts requiring supplemental oxygen was similar (89% vs. 92%) while rate of ICU admission was higher in Co2 (20% vs. 48%, p Conclusions : In the largest cancer dx-specific cohort reported, pts with CLL hospitalized for COVID-19 had a CFR of 30-34%. Advanced patient age at COVID-19 diagnosis was an independent predictor of OS in two large cohorts. This CFR will serve as a benchmark for mortality for future outcomes studies, including therapeutic interventions for COVID-19 in this population. The effect of CLL treatment on OS was inconsistent across cohorts; COVID-19 may be severe regardless of treatment status. While there were no significant differences in distribution of current lines of therapy between cohorts, prior chemo exposure was more common in Co1 vs. Co2, which may account for difference in OS. Background: Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) may be more susceptible to COVID-19 related poor outcomes, including thrombosis and death, due to the advanced age, the presence of comorbidities, and the disease and treatment-related immune deficiency. In this retrospective multicenter study, conducted by ERIC, the European Research Initiative on CLL, we assessed the risk of thrombosis and bleeding in patients with CLL affected by severe COVID-19.Methods: The study included patients from 79 centers across 22 countries. Data collection was conducted between April and May 2021.Results: A total of 793 patients from 79 centers were included in the study with 593 being hospitalized (74.8%). Among these, 518 were defined as having severe COVID: 162 were admitted to the ICU while 356 received oxygen supplementation outside the ICU. Most patients (90%) were receiving thromboprophylaxis. During COVID-19 treatment, 8.8% developed a thromboembolic event, while 4.8% experienced bleeding. Thrombosis developed in 20.5% of patients who were not receiving thromboprophylaxis, but only in 8.1% of patients who were on thromboprophylaxis. Bleeding episodes were more frequent in patients receiving intermediate/therapeutic versus prophylactic doses of low-molecular-weight heparin (LWMH) (11.1% vs. 4.2%, respectively) and in elderly. In multivariate analysis, peak D-dimer level was a poor prognostic factor for thrombosis occurrence (OR=1.020, 95%CI 1.006‒1.033), while thromboprophylaxis use was protective (OR=0.194, 95%CI 0.061‒0.614). Age and LMWH intermediate/therapeutic dose administration were prognostic factors in multivariate model for bleeding (OR=1.055, 95%CI 1.013-1.103 and OR=2.490, 95%CI 1.044-5.935, respectively). Conclusions: Patients with CLL affected by severe COVID-19 are at a high risk of thrombosis if thromboprophylaxis is not used, but also at increased risk of bleeding under the LMWH intermediate/therapeutic dose administration.

Introduction The Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale has been widely used to assess the subjective sense of auditory ability, functional hearing loss and the resulting benefit of the hearing correction strategy. Objective To translate and culturally adapt the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale to the Colombian Spanish from Brazilian Portuguese by means of a final version that demonstrates an understanding percentage greater than 85%. Methods The study was divided into three phases: in the first one the translation was done, the retro translation and the modifications were defined by the evaluation team, and in the other two, two pilot tests were made to 50 participants: in the first one the understanding of each of the statements that made up the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale was examined in 25 people and adjustments were made, and in the second, the same procedure was carried out in 25 other individuals but the document was not changed. Results It was observed that during the pilot test 1, there was difficulty in questions number 2 of Part 1 (56% understanding), and in 8, 9, 10, 12, 16 and 17 of Part 3 (75%) of understanding), while in others, the degree of understanding was higher than 85%. However, in pilot test 2, understanding was above 85% in all questions. In addition, Cronbach's alpha (0.93) indicated that the items from which the test was constituted measured the same construct and were reliable. Conclusion The method used allowed obtaining the version of the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale in Colombian Spanish with an understanding percentage greater than 85%. Resumo Introdução A Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale tem sido amplamente usada para avaliar subjetivamente a capacidade auditiva, a perda auditiva funcional e o benefício resultante da estratégia de correção auditiva. Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente a Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale para o espanhol da Colômbia a partir do português do Brasil, através de uma versão final que demonstre um percentual de entendimento superior a 85%. Método Foi dividido em três fases: na primeira, foram feitas a tradução, retrotradução e as modificações que foram definidas pela equipe de avaliação; nas outras duas, foram feitos dois testes piloto para 50 participantes; no primeiro, a compreensão de cada uma das frases que compunham a Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale foi avaliada em 25 pessoas e foram feitos ajustes; na segunda, o mesmo procedimento foi feito em outras 25 pessoas, mas o documento não foi alterado. Resultados Observou-se que durante o teste-piloto 1 houve dificuldade de entendimento nas questões número 2 da Parte 1 (56% de entendimento) e nas questões 8, 9, 10, 12, 16 e 17 da Parte 3 (75%)), enquanto em outras o grau de entendimento foi superior a 85%; entretanto, no teste-piloto 2, o entendimento ficou acima de 85% em todas as perguntas. Além disso, o alfa de Cronbach (0,93) indicou que os itens que constituíam o teste mediam o mesmo construto e eram confiáveis. Conclusão O método usado permitiu obter a versão da Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale em espanhol da Colômbia com um percentual de entendimento superior a 85%.

Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) may be more susceptible to Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to age, disease, and treatment-related immunosuppression. We aimed to assess risk factors of outcome and elucidate the impact of CLL-directed treatments on the course of COVID-19. We conducted a retrospective, international study, collectively including 941 patients with CLL and confirmed COVID-19. Data from the beginning of the pandemic until March 16, 2021, were collected from 91 centers. The risk factors of case fatality rate (CFR), disease severity, and overall survival (OS) were investigated. OS analysis was restricted to patients with severe COVID-19 (definition: hospitalization with need of oxygen or admission into an intensive care unit). CFR in patients with severe COVID-19 was 38.4%. Capes Introdução: a escala Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing (SSQ), tem sido amplamente utilizada para avaliar o sentido subjetivo da habilidade auditiva, a perda auditiva funcional e o benefício resultante da estratégia de correção auditiva. Objetivo: traduzir e adaptar culturalmente a SSQ ao Espanhol colombiano do Português brasileiro, por meio de uma versão final que demostre um percentual de compreensão maior do que o 85%. Metodologia: na fase 1, dois dos pesquisadores fizeram a tradução do Português para o Espanhol e outros dois efetuaram a retrotradução, ou seja, a tradução do Espanhol ao Português, para examinar a equivalência entre os idiomas e evitar variações conceituais, funcionais, semânticas, operacionais, de item e de medição. Logo, o comitê de especialistas avaliou o documento, foram concluídas as modificações necessárias e foi obtida a primeira versão. Na fase 2, assim como na adaptação brasileira, a população foi dividida em dois grupos de 25 pessoas cada um, para fazer dois testes piloto. No teste piloto 1, foi apresentada a versão resultante da SSQ da fase 1, e as pessoas foram convidadas a ler cada pergunta para contestar que tão compreensível era a afirmação num intervalo de 0 a 1, onde 0 era equivalente a "não tão compreensível" e 1 a "compreensível. Posteriormente, o comitê de especialistas revisou de novo o documento, as respostas foram analisadas, os inconvenientes foram identificados, os ajustes foram executados e a segunda versão foi conseguida. Na fase 3, foi efetivado o teste piloto 2, no qual aplicou-se novamente a SSQ da mesma forma, mas esta vez, o questionário tinha as modificações resultantes da fase 2, e como não foram necessárias alterações, foi determinado que a versão final havia sido alcançada. E na fase 4, o questionário da fase 3 foi comparado com cada item da versão brasileira, então observou-se que era válido para o contexto colombiano e pelo mesmo motivo, permaneceu igual. Resultados: observou-se que durante o teste-piloto 1, houve dificuldade nas questões 2 da parte 1 (56% de compreensão), e em 8, 9, 10, 12, 16 e 17 da parte 3 (75%) da compreensão ), enquanto que em outros, o grau de compreensão foi superior a 85%; entretanto, no teste piloto 2, o entendimento foi superior a 85% em todas as questões; além disso, o alfa de Cronbach (0,93) indicou que os itens a partir dos quais o teste foi constituído mediram o mesmo construto e eram confiáveis. Methodology: in phase 1, two of the researchers did the translation from Portuguese to Spanish and two others did the back-translation, that is, the translation from Spanish to Portuguese, to examine the equivalence between languages and to avoid conceptual, functional, semantic, operational variations, item and measurement. Then, the expert committee evaluated the document, the necessary modifications were completed and the first version was obtained. In phase 2, as in the Brazilian adaptation, the population was divided into two groups of 25 people each, to do two pilot tests. In pilot test 1, the resulting SSQ version of phase 1 was presented, and people were asked to read each question to contest that the statement in the range 0 to 1 was so understandable, where 0 was equivalent to "not so understandable" and 1 a "understandable. Subsequently, the expert committee revised the document again, responses were analyzed, inconveniences were identified, adjustments were made and the second version was achieved. In phase 3, pilot test 2 was carried out, in which the SSQ was applied again in the same way, but this time, the questionnaire had the changes resulting from phase 2, and as no changes were necessary, it was determined that the final version had been achieved. And in phase 4, the phase 3 questionnaire was compared with each item in the Brazilian version, so it was observed that it was valid for the Colombian context and for the same reason, it remained the same. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a disease of the elderly, characterized by immunodeficiency. Hence, patients with CLL might be considered more susceptible to severe complications from COVID-19. We undertook this retrospective international multicenter study to characterize the course of COVID-19 in patients with CLL and identify potential predictors of outcome. Of 190 patients with CLL and confirmed COVID-19 diagnosed between 28/03/2020 and 22/05/2020, 151 (79%) presented with severe COVID-19 (need of oxygen and/or intensive care admission). Severe COVID-19 was associated with more advanced age (≥65 years) (odds ratio 3.72 [95% CI 1.79–7.71]). Only 60 patients (39.7%) with severe COVID-19 were receiving or had recent (≤12 months) treatment for CLL at the time of COVID-19 versus 30/39 (76.9%) patients with mild disease. Hospitalization rate for severe COVID-19 was lower (p < 0.05) for patients on ibrutinib versus those on other regimens or off treatment. Of 151 patients with severe disease, 55 (36.4%) succumbed versus only 1/38 (2.6%) with mild disease; age and comorbidities did not impact on mortality. In CLL, (1) COVID-19 severity increases with age; (2) antileukemic treatment (particularly BTK inhibitors) appears to exert a protective effect; (3) age and comorbidities did not impact on mortality, alluding to a relevant role of CLL and immunodeficiency.

Si bien la politica educativa chilena ha innovado en la formacion de directores escolares principiantes introduciendo la mentoria, aun es escaso el conocimiento sobre este enfoque en el campo del liderazgo educativo a nivel nacional. Es por ello que este articulo busca repensar y resignificar la evidencia internacional sobre mentoria, con el fin de contribuir a la produccion de conocimiento contextualizado. Se realizo un estudio de caso multiple, guiado por el siguiente objetivo de investigacion: conceptualizar una ‘buena mentoria' y un ‘buen mentor' a partir de las voces de los actores involucrados en programas de induccion para directores novatos desarrollados en Chile en 2017. Se condujo 21 entrevistas a directores, mentores y coordinadores de programa; y se realizo un analisis tematico por caso y transversal. Los resultados permiten delimitar caracteristicas comunes de una ‘buena mentoria' y un ‘buen mentor' entre los entrevistados y derivar orientaciones para contextualizar adecuadamente la mentoria en los programas de induccion a directores escolares novatos.

PurposeThis article seeks to report on a research inquiry that explored the educational praxis of ethical school leaders in Chile. Behaving ethically is an imperative for school leaders. Being an ethical educational leader is something different. It is not only about behaving according to standards, but also rather involves an ethical way of being that engages the leader holistically in their attempt to do the right thing for students.Design/methodology/approachA multiple case study design was employed to gain insight into the feelings, beliefs and thoughts of ethical school leaders in Chile regarding their educational experiences. To this end, semi‐structured interviews were conducted with eight identified ethical school leaders. The data focused on the commonalities and uniqueness within and across participants.FindingsSix main themes that reflect the experience of being ethical as a school leader in Chile were identified and included: holding personal and professional ethics as inseparable; “consistently” inspiring practice; valuing others; sustaining a humane view of education; being sensitive to the complex local context; and leading as serving.Originality/valueEthical leaders in education have been shown to influence educational contexts from a moral imperative that is grounded in a critical and humanistic concern that deeply affirms “others” as a common good. Becoming and being an ethical leader is indeed an experiential journey that integrates the leader's personal and professional way of being. The findings provide key elements of ethical leadership within a Chilean school context that can influence current and future school leaders' practices and professional development.

Moyamoya disease is a unique chronic progressive cerebrovascular disease characterized by bilateral stenosis or occlusion of the arteries around the circle of Willis with prominent arterial collateral circulation. It can be primary or secondary to genetic syndromes such as Down syndrome. We report a seven year-old girl with a Down syndrome that presented with a disturbance of consciousness, seizures and a right hemiparesia at the age of five. Magnetic resonance imaging showed old cortical ischemic lesions in both cerebral hemispheres and a recent infarction in the territory of the left middle cerebral artery. Brain angiography showed a proximal stenosis of both medial cerebral arteries and a net of collateral vessels, consistent with the diagnosis of moyamoya syndrome. The patient had also an antithrombin III deficiency. Aspirin was indicated and a surgical correction was recommended. However, prior to the procedure, the patient had a new infarction in the territory of the right middle cerebral artery, which caused a severe disability.
