Wetting phenomena have been widely observed in our daily lives, such as dew on lotus leaf, and applied in technical applications, e.g., ink-jet printing. In contrast to constant liquid–solid and solid–gas interfacial tensions in Young's law, we here focus on the wetting phenomena by considering varying fluid–solid interfacial tensions. We analyze the energy landscape, the map of Young's contact angle, the number and corresponding contact angle of local energy minima, and the contact angle hysteresis for a liquid droplet on a solid substrate in a gas phase. In addition, a gas bubble on a solid substrate in a liquid phase has been scrutinized from the aspect of surface energy minimization. The wetting effect has been regarded, where the liquid and gas species penetrate into the solid phase on the microscopic scale [F. Wang and B. Nestler, Phys. Rev. Lett. 132, 126202 (2024)]. We assume the liquid–solid and the solid–gas interfacial tensions to be a function dependent on the volume fraction of the liquid and the gas species and investigate the impact of the size ratio of the droplet to the solid surface that is overlooked in existing theories on the wetting phenomena. Using hydrophobic aerogel (AGL) as the carrier, the catalyst supported p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA) is synthesized, and the impact of the hydrophobicity of the catalyst on the formaldehyde–ethylene condensation reaction is investigated. Water contact angle, XRD, N2 adsorption/desorption, IR, and thermogravimetric analysis are used to characterize the catalyst. The outcomes demonstrate the ability of p-TSA to be loaded onto the carrier and the strong hydrophobicity of the catalyst when using AGL as the carrier. The elemental analysis results indicate that when AGL is employed as the carrier, the catalyst not only has more active sites than the SiO2-supported catalyst, but can also effectively limit the loss of active sites, reducing the loss rate from 25.82% to 15.03%. The findings demonstrate that 1,3-dioxane (1,3-DX) had a higher selectivity, rising from 16.2% to 33.3% when using AGL as the carrier. It is discovered that 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) can be directly synthesized with a selectivity of up to 80.5% by employing acetic acid as a solvent in place of water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The contact line (CL) is where solid, liquid, and vapor phases meet, and Young's equation describes the macroscopic force balance of the interfacial tensions between these three phases. These interfacial tensions are related to the nanoscale stress inhomogeneity appearing around the interface, and for curved CLs, e.g., a three-dimensional droplet, another force known as the line tension must be included in Young's equation. The line tension has units of force, acting parallel to the CL, and is required to incorporate the extra stress inhomogeneity around the CL into the force balance. Considering this feature, Bey et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 152, 094707 (2020)] reported a mechanical approach to extract the value of line tension τℓ from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. In this study, we show a novel thermodynamics interpretation of the line tension as the free energy per CL length, and based on this interpretation, through MD simulations of a quasi-static detachment process of a quasi-two-dimensional droplet from a solid surface, we obtained the value τℓ as a function of the contact angle. The simulation scheme is considered to be an extension of a thermodynamic integration method, previously used to calculate the solid–liquid and solid–vapor interfacial tensions through a detachment process, extended here to the three-phase system. We show that the reflection interference fringe (RIF) is formed on a screen far away from the microdroplets placed on a prism-based substrate, which have low contact angles and thin droplet heights, caused by the dual convex–concave profile of the droplet, not a pure convex profile. The geometric formulation shows that the interference fringes are caused by the optical path difference when the reflected rays from the upper convex profile at the droplet–air interface interfere with reflection from the lower concave profile at oblique angles lower than the critical angle. Analytic solutions are obtained for the droplet height and the contact angle out of the fringe number and the fringe radius in RIF from the geometric formulation. Furthermore, the ray tracing simulation is conducted using the custom-designed code. The geometric formulation and the ray tracing show excellent agreement with the experimental observation in the relation between the droplet height and the fringe number and the relation between the contact angle and the fringe radius. This study is remarkable as the droplet's dual profile cannot be easily observed with the existing techniques. However, the RIF technique can effectively verify the existence of a dual profile of the microdroplets in a simple setup. In this work, the RIF technique is successfully developed as a new optical diagnostic technique to determine the microdroplet features, such as the dual profile, the height, the contact angle, the inflection point, and the precursor film thickness, by simply measuring the RIF patterns on the far-field screen. In this study, low-cost laser marker ablation of vanadium-coated glass was adopted to prepare self-cleaning, anti-reflective, and anti-fog micro-nano structures on its surface. The surface had a hierarchical micro-nano structure composed of a quasi-periodic microstructure and ∼100 nm-sized worm-like clusters interspersed with dispersed nanoparticles. The solar spectrum (AM 1.5) weighted average transmission of treated glass was enhanced by 3.87% over control glass in the wavelength range of 400–1100 nm. Importantly, the water contact angle of the laser-treated samples achieved and maintained 0° for a duration of 25 days, and the laser-treated samples achieved and maintained excellent anti-fog performance for 150 days. The antifog performance degraded substantially afterward, though was still noticeable compared to the reference even after 428 days of storage in the laboratory. Furthermore, co-achievement of exceptional self-cleaning anti-fog performance and broadband transmission enhancement through laser treatment of glass has rarely been previously reported. We energetically predict the morphology of Pd, Ag, Au, and Pt nanoparticles on (0001) sapphire substrates, using density functional theory (DFT) simulations and the well-known Young–Dupre equation. In all cases, the contact angles exceed 90 ° , indicating that the nanoparticles are spherical. Notably, Au nanoparticles exhibit a higher contact angle than those of their counterparts. The validity of the proposed a b i n i t i o nanoparticle morphology prediction approach based on DFT simulations was assessed in comparison with our previous experimental findings pertaining to the time variation of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the resonant peak. Furthermore, the diffusivities of single Pd, Ag, Au, and Pt atoms on the substrate were evaluated by calculating the activation energy, offering insights into the underlying physics governing the timing of FWHM peaks. The analysis confirms a higher diffusivity of Au and Ag compared with Pd and Pt. According to the comparison between DFT and experiment results, although no clear relation is observed between the contact angles and timing of FWHM peaks, the diffusivity of sputtered atoms may influence the timing of FWHM peaks. Geological CO2 sequestration (GCS) can help mitigate global warming and enhance methane recovery from coal beds. However, few studies have linked the effects of CO2 to surface chemistry changes controlling wetting behavior in deep coal beds. Contact angles (CAs) of CO2/N2-high volatile bituminous coal-water systems were measured under different temperatures and pressures. The surface chemistry and physical structure of coals were characterized to investigate changes in physicochemical properties and their relations with wettability after reactions. For N2 treatment, the time-dependence of static and dynamic CAs were insignificant, ranging within 4°. For gaseous CO2 treatment, the static CAs and the average advancing angles increased slightly. With supercritical (sc) CO2, both the static and dynamic CAs increased significantly, and θ adv changed to intermediate-wet (92°). Reactions with minerals exposed to scCO2 resulted in greater surface roughness and heterogeneity, greater contact angle hysteresis and more surface sites occupied by scCO2 rather than H2O. Increases in hydrophobic functional groups and decreases in hydrophilicity were shown by FTIR spectra, reflecting the shedding of polar oxygen-containing functional groups, reduction of hydrogen bonds, and increasing percentage of hydrocarbons. XRD patterns obtained following scCO2-treatment showed that crystallite growth and molecular polymerization were higher toward graphite-like. The calculated structural parameters of functional groups and crystallites both showed elevated coal rank. Changes in crystallite structure, notably higher carbon content and decreased negative surface charge, are unfavorable for water-wetting. This study contributes to understanding surface chemistry changes responsible for decreased wettability during CO2-enhanced coal bed methane recovery and GCS in coal reservoirs.

The rapid realization of efficient anti-icing coatings on diverse substrates is of vital value for practical applications. However, current approaches for rapid preparations of anti-icing coatings are still deficient regarding their surface universality and accessibility. Here, we report a simple processing approach to rapidly form icephobic liquid-like polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) brushes on various substrates, including metals, ceramics, glass, and plastics. A poly(dimethylsiloxane), trimethoxysilane is applied as a reactant under the catalysis of a minimal amount of acid formed by hydrolysis of dichlorodimethylsilane. With such an advantage, this approach is approved to be applicable of coating metal surfaces with less corrosion. The distinctive flexibility of the PDMS chains provides a liquid-like property to the coating showing low contact angle hysteresis and ice adhesion strength. Notably, the ice adhesion strength remains similar across a wide temperature window, from −70 to −10 °C, with a value of 18.4 kPa. The PDMS brushes demonstrate perfect capability for resisting acid and alkali corrosions, ultra-violet degradation, and even tens of icing/deicing cycles. Moreover, the liquid-like coating can also form at supercooling conditions, such as −20 °C, and shows an outstanding anti-icing/deicing performance, which meets the in situ coating reformation requirement under extreme conditions when it is damaged. In this work, we implemented an off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM) setup to study the behavior of liquid drops on nanostructured porous silicon (PS) membranes. When a liquid comes into contact with the PS structure, capillary action and surface tension give rise to imbibition of the liquid into the intricate volume of the pores. At the same time, the vapor field developed around the drop enhances liquid condensation and evaporation into and from the pores. The complex interplay between these phenomena (capillary driven internal flows, condensation, and evaporation) is not yet fully understood but the methods we propose can provide new insights. We demonstrate how DHM allows determining the filling fraction of the porous membrane around drying drops of water and isobutyl alcohol. The phase information obtained from registered holograms provides quantitative information that permits to reconstruct the filling fraction along the porous membrane and its evolution during the drying process. Additionally, relevant parameters such as speed and contact angle during retraction of the drops can be measured. These methods can be further extended to other porous materials, such as porous alumina, micro- and macro-PS, to develop better fluid-dynamic models for describing fluid behavior in highly confined structures. Moving contact line dynamics calculations include two models: precursor film models and slip models. The lubrication approximation method is used to establish a three-dimensional mathematical model to analyze the droplet thermocapillary migration behavior on a non-uniformly heated solid substrate with a wettability track. The contact line dynamics in the slip model and the disjoining pressure effect in the precursor model are proposed to regulate the substrate wettability. Both models are numerically implemented to investigate droplet spreading for three cases: free spreading on an isothermal substrate, thermocapillary migration on a uniform wettability substrate, and thermocapillary migration on a wettability-confined track. For the case of free spreading on an isothermal substrate, the three-dimensional results of the slip and precursor contact line models are essentially consistent with two-dimensional slip model results. For the case of thermocapillary migration on a uniform wettability substrate, the results of the two models essentially agree with the experimental results. Decreasing the thermal gradient reduces the discrepancies between the two models that result from the coordinate transformation method used in the slip model, which reduces the contact angles measured in the y-direction and enlarges the advancing contact angle in the migration direction. For the case of thermocapillary migration on a wettability-confined track, the slip model gradually shows a "dynamic-pinning" behavior with increasing equilibrium contact angle in the hydrophobic region. By contrast, the precursor film model maintains a stationary pinning behavior but separates a residual liquid outside the track. The precursor film model is preferred over the slip model in lubrication approximations for three-dimensional fluids when calculating complex moving contact dynamics caused by wettability differences. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the bonding effectiveness of two HEMA/BPA-free universal adhesives (UAs) to flat dentin, to characterize their adhesive-dentin interfacial ultrastructure, and to measure their water sorption (Wsp), water solubility (Wsl), and hydrophobicity. Materials and Methods: The immediate and aged (50,000 thermocycles) microtensile bond strength (μTBS) to flat dentin of the HEMA/BPA-free UAs Healbond Max (HbMax; Elsodent) and Healbond MP (HbMP; Elsodent) as well as the reference adhesives OptiBond FL (Opti-FL; Kerr), Clearfil SE Bond 2 (C-SE2; Kuraray Noritake), and Scotchbond Universal (SBU; 3M Oral Care) was measured. The adhesive-dentin interfaces of HbMax and HbMP were characterized by TEM. Wsp and Wsl of all adhesive resins and of the primer/adhesive resin mixtures of HbMax, Opti-FL, and C-SE2 were measured. Hydrophobicity was determined by measuring the contact angle of water dropped on adhesive-treated dentin. Results: In terms of μTBS, HbMax and HbMP performed statistically similarly to Opti-FL and C-SE2, but outperformed SBU. Aging only significantly reduced the μTBS of SBU when applied in E&R bonding mode. TEM revealed typical E&R and SE hybrid-layer ultrastructures at dentin, while electron-lucent globules of unknown origin, differing in size and shape, were observed within the adhesive resin of HbMP and even more frequently in that of HbMax. Higher Wsp was measured for the primer/adhesive resin mixtures than for the adhesive resins. Opti-FL was more hydrophobic than all other adhesives tested. Conclusion: The HEMA/BPA-free UAs bonded durably to flat dentin with bond strengths comparable to those of the goldstandard E&R/SE adhesives and superior to that of the HEMA/BPA-containing 1-step UA. Hydrophobicity has proven fundamental in an inexhaustible amount of everyday applications. Material hydrophobicity is determined by chemical composition and geometrical characteristics of its macroscopic surface. Surface roughness or texturing enhances intrinsic hydrophilic or hydrophobic characteristics of a material. Here we consider crystalline surfaces presenting molecular-scale texturing typical of crystalline porous materials, e.g., metal-organic frameworks. In particular, we investigate one such material with remarkable hydrophobic qualities, ZIF-8. We show that ZIF-8 hydrophobicity is driven not only by its chemical composition but also its sub-nanoscale surface corrugations, a physical enhancement rare amongst hydrophobes. Studying ZIF-8's hydrophobic properties is challenging as experimentally it is difficult to distinguish between the materials' and the macroscopic corrugations' contributions to the hydrophobicity. The computational contact angle determination is also difficult as the standard "geometric" technique of liquid nanodroplet deposition is prone to many artifacts. Here, we characterise ZIF-8 hydrophobicity via: (i) the "geometric" approach and (ii) the "energetic" method, utilising the Young–Dupré formula and computationally determining the liquid–solid adhesion energy. Both approaches reveal nanoscale Wenzel-like bathing of the corrugated surface. Moreover, we illustrate the importance of surface linker termination in ZIF-8 hydrophobicity, which reduces when varied from sp3 N to sp2 N termination. We also consider halogenated analogues of the methyl-imidazole linker, which promote the transition from nanoWenzel-like to nanoCassie–Baxter-like states, further enhancing surface hydrophobicity. Present results reveal the complex interface physics and chemistry between water and complex porous, molecular crystalline surfaces, providing a hint to tune their hydrophobicity. Cahn introduced the concept of wall energy to describe the interaction between two immiscible fluids and a solid wall [J. W. Cahn, J. Chem. Phys. 66, 3667–3672 (1977)]. This quintessential concept has been successfully applied to describe various wetting phenomena of a droplet in contact with a solid surface. The usually formulated wall free energy results in the so-called surface composition that is not equal to the bulk composition. This composition difference leads to a limited range of contact angles which can be achieved by the linear/high-order polynomial wall free energy. To address this issue and to improve the adaptability of the model, we symmetrically discuss the formulation of the wall free energy on the Young's contact angle via Allen–Cahn model. In our model, we modify the calculation of the fluid-solid interfacial tensions according to the Cahn's theory by considering the excess free energy contributed by the distorted composition profile induced by the surface effect. Additionally, we propose a semi-obstacle wall free energy which enforces the surface composition to be the bulk composition within the framework of bulk obstacle potential. By this way, the accuracy of the contact angle close to 0° and 180° is significantly improved in the phase-field simulations. We further reveal that the volume preservation term in the conservative Allen–Cahn model has a more significant impact on the wetting behavior on superhydrophobic surfaces than on hydrophilic surfaces, which is attributed to the curvature effect. When a contact line (CL)—where a liquid–vapor interface meets a substrate—is put into motion, it is well known that the contact angle differs between advancing and receding CLs. Using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, we reveal another intriguing distinction between advancing and receding CLs: while temperature increases at an advancing CL—as expected from viscous dissipation, we show that temperature can drop at a receding CL. Detailed quantitative analysis based on the macroscopic energy balance around the dynamic CL showed that the internal energy change of the fluid due to the change of the potential field along the pathline out of the solid–liquid interface induced a remarkable temperature drop around the receding CL, in a manner similar to latent heat upon phase changes. This result provides new insights for modeling the dynamic CL, and the framework for heat transport analysis introduced here can be applied to a wide range of nanofluidic systems. The stability of holes in solid thin films is crucial, as an absence of holes is necessary in some applications and holes are needed in others. We develop an axisymmetric two grain model with a central hole, with surface diffusion governing the exterior surfaces and mean curvature motion governing the grain boundary. The model can exhibit grooving, wetting, dewetting, as well as void, hole, and hillock formation. Here, we extend an earlier work [Zigelman and Novick-Cohen, J. Appl. Phys. 130, 175301 (2021)], where it was shown for an axisymmetric single grain system with a hole at the center that there exists a critical effective radius, which is independent of the contact angle. The stability of the steady states, which consist of coupled nodoidal and catenoidal surfaces, is analyzed numerically by imposing the steady state configurations as initial conditions. This approach yields stability criteria in terms of (i) the effective energy, (ii) the ratio between the maximal thickness of the inner and outer grains, (iii) a generalized effective radius, and (iv) the ratio between the mean curvature of the exterior surfaces and the total volume of the system. Some of these criteria partially reflect the Rayleigh stability criterion. Hillock formation tends to be stabilizing. Micro–nano symbiotic superamphiphobic surfaces can prevent liquids from adhering to metal surfaces and, as a result, improve their corrosion resistance, self-cleaning performance, pollution resistance, and ice resistance. However, the fabrication of stable and controllable micro–nano symbiotic superamphiphobic structures on metal surfaces commonly used in industry remains a significant challenge. In this study, a laser-electrochemical hybrid subtractive–additive manufacturing method was proposed and developed for preparing copper superamphiphobic surfaces. Both experimental and fluid simulation studies were carried out. Utilizing this novel hybrid method, the controllable preparation of superamphiphobic micro–nano symbiotic structures was realized. The experimental results showed that the prepared surfaces had excellent superamphiphobic properties following subsequent modification with low surface energy substances. The contact angles of water droplets and oil droplets on the surface following electrodeposition treatment reached values of 161 ± 4° and 151 ± 4°, respectively, which showed that the prepared surface possessed perfect superamphiphobicity. Both the fabrication method and the test results provided useful insights for the preparation of stable and controllable superamphiphobic structures on metal surfaces in the future. The fluid–solid interfacial tension is of great importance to many applications including the geological storage of greenhouse gases and enhancing the recovery of geo-resources, but it is rarely studied. Extensive molecular dynamics simulations are conducted to calculate fluid–solid interfacial properties in H2O + gas (H2, N2, CH4, and CO2) + rigid solid three-phase systems at various temperatures (298–403 K), pressures (0–100 MPa), and wettabilities (hydrophilic, neutral, and hydrophobic). Our results on the H2O + solid system show that vapor–solid interfacial tension should not be ignored in cases where the fluid–solid interaction energy is strong or the contact angle is close to 90°. As the temperature rises, the magnitude of H2O's liquid–solid interfacial tension declines because the oscillation of the interfacial density/pressure profile weakens at high temperatures. However, the magnitude of H2O vapor–solid interfacial tension is enhanced with temperature due to the stronger adsorption of H2O. Moreover, the H2O–solid interfacial tension in H2O + gas (H2 or N2) + solid systems is weakly dependent on pressure, while the pressure effects on H2O–solid interfacial tensions in systems with CH4 or CO2 are significant. We show that the assumption of pressure independent H2O–solid interfacial tensions should be cautiously applied to Neumann's method for systems containing non-hydrophilic surfaces with strong gas–solid interaction. Meanwhile, the magnitude of gas–solid interfacial tension increases with pressure and gas–solid interaction. High temperatures generally decrease the magnitude of gas–solid interfacial tensions. This study investigates the modification of graphene oxide (GO) with ethylenediamine (EDA) to enhance its interlayer spacing to 1.04 nm and increase water flux to 879.2 L m−2 h−1. Subsequently, gallic acid (GA) was employed for secondary modification of the ethylenediamine-modified graphene oxide (EGO). Cellulose acetate (CA) served as the substrate for membrane fabrication, with the GA–EGO membrane prepared via a vacuum filtration method. The fundamental properties of the GA–EGO membrane were characterized using various analytical techniques, including water contact angle measurements and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results indicated that the optimal concentration of GA in the GA–EGO membrane was 1 mg. Under these conditions, significant alterations to the membrane surface were observed, achieving a water contact angle of 0°, which corresponds to a superhydrophilic state. The GA–EGO membrane demonstrated an increased water flux of 1058.2 L m−2 h−1 and exhibited excellent emulsion separation capabilities, achieving a separation efficiency of 95.3% for coal–oil emulsions. Notably, after ten cycles of use, the GA–EGO membrane retained its operational efficiency. Furthermore, it maintained a separation efficiency exceeding 90% for emulsions derived from various oils, underscoring its promising potential for practical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the sol-gel stage co-precursor method was used to hydrophobically modify the gel and increase the content of alkali catalyst in the gel, thereby reducing the capillary force generated during ambient pressure drying and enhancing the strength of the gel skeleton. This improvement makes the gel skeleton structure not easy to destroy during the rapid drying process, thus greatly reducing the preparation time of atmospheric pressure drying, which could be as short as 10 h. It is worth mentioning that this method does not require extensive use of modifiers and organic solvents, so it has low cost, high efficiency, and broad industrial production application prospects. The experimental results show that the DDS/ZSA aerogel exhibits the lowest thermal conductivity (0.035 W m−1 K−1) when the dilute ammonia content is 5 ml. However, it should be noted that too low or too high an amount of dilute ammonia will lead to a decrease in aerogel performance, so it needs to be controlled within the appropriate range. In addition, the prepared aerogel has excellent hydrophobic properties with a contact angle greater than 140° and excellent thermal stability at 1000 °C, which can be used in harsh, humid, and high-temperature environments. Polymeric composite materials are in great demand in biomedical and water treatment applications. This is because they possess distinct characteristics and can fulfill specific biomedical needs, in addition to their ability to degrade dyes. This study successfully synthesized sustainable strontium titanate (STO) particles with an average size of 120 nm using the solid-state method. When these STO particles were mixed into a PCL-based polyurethane matrix, the matrix became hydrophilic with a contact angle of 58.60° and its mechanical strength enhanced by 320%. The morphology and surface roughness of the films were determined using FESEM and AFM techniques. The antibacterial studies of polymeric composites film against E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and S. aureus , showing good zone growth, and showing enhanced swelling properties of 270% for wound healing and biomedical applications. The photocatalytic performance of the STO by degrading Methyl Orange (MO) and Congo Red (CR) under UV light, achieving degradation efficiencies of 92.25% for MO and 62.5% for CR over 150 min. The competitiveness between photovoltaic conversion efficiency (PCE) and transparency would be the bottleneck of transparent device for actual applications, as well as the high maintenance cost. In this work, the self-cleaning transparent device in interfacial Tb:Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 QDs modified Cu 2 Y 2 O 5 /Bi 2 O 3 pn junction is prepared via a simple approach of sol-gel-hydrothermal method. The obtained Cu 2 Y 2 O 5 /Tb:Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 QDs/Bi 2 O 3 exhibits high transmittance of ∼85 %, obvious photovoltaic enhancement of ∼2.0 × 103-folds (PCE of ∼1.17 %), stable output in 5 months cycles and a good self-cleaning via the hydrophobicity (contact angle of ∼123.4°). It's mainly attributed to the Tb:Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 QDs and lamellar Bi 2 O 3 array. Besides appropriate potential and high quantum yield, the Tb:Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 QDs, with the synergism of up-conversion fluorescence and interface/surface optimization, can improve the carrier kinetic equilibrium for achieving PCE-transparency balance, as well as increasing p-type conductivity through the synergism of Cu+/Cu2+ and interstitial oxygen. Moreover, the regular lamellar array can enhance solar efficiency via optimized surface, meanwhile achieving self-cleaning via the surface hydrophobicity and enhancing structural stability via the regular interval, making it being advantageous in actual applications of energy and information field, including windows, smart devices, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inspired by the antifouling process observed in fluorescent corals, this study introduces a novel functional antifouling film consisting of Ag-Cu 2 O nanocomposites, zwitterionic polymers, and a phosphor substrate. Zwitterionic polymers serve as a dispersive medium for Ag-Cu 2 O nanocomposites, enabling a uniform coating and optimal structural through spin-coating. During daylight hours, visible light irradiation excites Ag-Cu 2 O nanocomposites to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), which cooperates with the hydration layer, exhibit a high-level antifouling effect. Notably, the unique structural coating can emit a weak coral-like fluorescence at night, sustaining ROS release and further enhancing antifouling performance. The assembly structure of the composite film was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and water contact angle (WCA), while its antifouling performance was evaluated through antibacterial tests and a 30-day light-dark cycle anti-algae attachment experiment. The distinct nighttime antifouling capability contributes to 97.30 % anti-algae settled rate over a 30-day diurnal cycle. Moreover, we also investigated the effect of phosphor color on the composite film's antifouling properties. The blue phosphor group exhibited greater antifouling performance than the green or transparent phosphor group. The composite film created with multiple synergistic mechanisms exhibited auspicious antifouling performance. Photothermal antibacterial composite membranes have a broad range of clinical applications such as wound dressing, drug delivery, and physiotherapy. However, existing photothermal antimicrobial films have limitations related to biosafety, stability, and degradability. Herein, we develop an environmentally‐friendly composite membrane with antibacterial properties, photothermal conversion capability, and facile processing. The composite membrane film is comprised of polylactic acid (PLA) with graphene (G) and is synthesized via melt co‐blending and hot pressing. We verify that graphene is uniformly dispersed in the PLA phase, and an antibacterial rate of 99.7% can be achieved by a PLA/G composite membrane with only 3.0 wt.% graphene added. Moreover, the obtained films exhibit efficient photothermal conversion, reaching thermal treatment temperatures (40–60°C) within 10 s and maintaining temperature stability for extended periods. Additionally, the composite fiber film exhibited a tensile strength of 3.5 cN/dtex and good hydrophobicity (>90° contact angle). The combination of antibacterial properties, efficient photothermal conversion, noninfiltration, high strength, hydrophobicity, and mechanical stability, along with the inherent degradability of PLA and the scalability of the synthesis process for mass production, offer broad application prospects for PLA‐based composite materials. Currently, the problem of air pollution is getting more and more serious, especially the pollution of tiny solid particles (PM, particulate matter) in the air, which poses a great challenge to the environment and human health. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop air filtration materials with high filtration efficiency and low resistance to meet this challenge. In this study, we propose to prepare air filtration membranes by centrifugal jet electrospinning technology, design multifactorial orthogonal coupling experiments, and investigate the effects of key process parameters of centrifugal jet electrostatic spinning, including solution concentration, airflow rate, rotational speed, and voltage, on the fiber diameter and uniformity by applying the polar analysis of variance and analysis of variance. PAN‐BaTiO3 electret nanofiber filtration membranes with high efficiency and low resistance were prepared by combining the optimized process of centrifugal blowing electrospinning. Various characterization methods (tensile test, water contact angle test, surface charge test, filtration test) were used to evaluate the effect of different BaTiO3 electret contents (0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%) on the comprehensive performance of the filtration membranes, and the electret filtration efficiency of the electret filtration membranes prepared by the present process reached as high as 96.56% with a pressure drop of 29 Pa. In order to clarify the effect of feeding rate ratio (Rsr) for polylactic acid (PLA) to polyethylene glycol (PEG) on the performance of thermal regulation nanofibers, PLA and PEG solutions were used as the outer and inner spinning solutions, respectively, to develop PLA/PEG nanofibers (NFp‐p) through coaxial electrospinning. NFp‐p nanofibers with Rsr of 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1 were labeled PR1, PR2, and PR3, respectively. The morphology, chemical structure, mechanical properties, and thermal performance of NFp‐p were tested, and the thermal regulation function was investigated. The results showed that increasing Rsr could increase the diameter of NFp‐p, with PR1 having the smallest average diameter (520 nm). PR1 had the lowest water contact angle (122.4°), and higher Rsr enhanced the encapsulation effect of PLA on PEG. The mechanical properties of NFp‐p were significantly improved compared to pure PLA, with PR1 and PR3 exhibiting the highest breaking stress (2.5 MPa) and breaking strain (213%). The thermal performance of NFp‐p could be regulated by Rsr, with PR1 showing a more pronounced endothermic peak due to the melting of PEG, and the highest phase‐change enthalpy (13.2 J/g). A particularly significant metric in the initial phase and in industrial applications is the contact angle (CA), which arises from the surfaces’ wetting behavior. One of the commonly employed processes for separation in the mineral processing industry is froth flotation. The principal goal of this work is to describe the behavior of flotation (collision, attachment, and detachment to the air bubble) as it corresponds to the requirement and use of CA in surface wetting behavior, especially in the context of minerals. This review and previous part provide information on the CA measurement method, the wetting characteristics of mineral surfaces, the variables affecting CA measurements, and the associated implications for the flotation process. The preceding part (Part I) included a broad examination, the idea of a static and dynamic CA, and a statement of the sessile drop method. The current part (II) for the initial-time examines multiple methods and approaches that employed both historical and existing flotation research to investigate the literature on the foundation of CA of various minerals as function of the approach used for CA assessment, which provides an in-depth analysis of questions relating to the determination of CA on real surfaces or powder materials including the evaluation of the impact of the surface heterogeneity, particle fraction size and shape, roughness, and the drop/bubble size with coordination the foremost later information on how these factors affect surface wettability. At that point, the data could be combined into a flotation demonstration or used to evaluate the viability of increasing flotation productivity and provide further insight into this procedure. There are a lot of publications on the subject of CA across several sciences, but the quantity is likewise low when looking at the CA of minerals or flotation, and much more so if it comes to review articles. Using the data and information gathered from the CA measurement and its connection to flotation recovery, the primary objective is to ascertain if any of these variables considerably impact the hydrophobicity of the mineral surface. Hydroxyapatite (HA) or bioceramic-based coatings on stainless steel (SS) 316L significantly enhance the biofunctionality of the base material's surface. However, HA's low thermal conductivity and brittleness limit its effectiveness as a coating material. This study investigates HA coating on SS 316L using electric discharge machining (EDM) with varying discharge energies and powder concentrations. Surface morphology, elemental composition, and phase analysis of untreated and coated samples were characterised using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results demonstrate that the HA-assisted EDM process creates a coating comprising biocompatible oxides, phosphates, carbides, and intermetallic compounds. The coating exhibits a thin resolidified layer of 10.74 μm, characterised by redeposited spherical debris, shallow cavities, and a surface texture of 2.688 μm. The layer's hydrophilic nature is confirmed by a minimum contact angle of 47.68°. Taguchi analysis indicates that the machining rate is optimised at an HA powder concentration of 16 g/l, with peak current and HA powder concentration being the most influential parameters affecting resolidified layer thickness, surface texture, and wetting angle. An anion-responsive boron-containing π-conjugated polymer was synthesized via the Sonogashira coupling polymerization. The 11B NMR, UV/vis absorption, and fluorescence spectra confirmed the formation of an anion complex between the polymer and tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF). Thin films were then prepared either by the pre-addition method, where the thin film was prepared using a solution of the polymer and TBAF, or by the post-addition method, where the polymer thin film was treated with an aqueous TBAF solution. The contact angle measurements revealed an enhancement in wettability with both methods. Consequently, wettability can be controlled via anion-complex formation at the surface. The titanium scaffolds and surface-porous implants are manufactured by fast and cheap additive methods such as selective laser melting (SLM). The obtained irregularity and relative biological inertness of the titanium need proper surface modification. This research is aimed at forming bioactive multicomponent oxide coatings by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) at different process parameters on the selective laser-melted Ti13Zr13Nb alloy. The MAO process was carried out in a base solution containing 0.15 mol/L Ca and 0.1 mol/L GP, with different amounts of metasilicate added under two different applied voltages. Scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray electron diffraction spectroscopy, nanomechanical and nano scratch tests, water contact angle measurements, phosphate deposition observed in long-term immersion tests, and biological LDH and MTT assays were performed. The results showed that the coating microstructure, morphology, and properties were significantly dependent on process parameters. In particular, the metasilicate addition and its rising content in the electrolyte resulted in the higher development of the surface followed by better viability of osteoblasts at no necrosis, with no negative change in the other parameters, usually close to those obtained on silicon-free coatings. The obtained results prove that the addition of silicon to the electrolyte at the partial expense of calcium can be favorable for long-term titanium implants made by selective laser melting. Recently, the utilization of hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) with high crystallinity and inherent well-defined H-bonding networks in the field of proton conduction has received increasing attention, but obtaining HOFs with excellent water stability and prominent proton conductivity (σ) remains challenging. Herein, by employing functionalized terephthalic acids, 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid, 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid, 2-nitro terephthalic acid, and terephthalic acid, respectively, four highly water-stable ionic HOFs (iHOFs), [(C 8 H 5 O 6)(Me 2 NH 2)]∙2H 2 O (iHOF 1), [(C 8 H 5 O 5)(Me 2 NH 2)] (iHOF 2), [(C 8 H 4 NO 6)(Me 2 NH 2)] (iHOF 3) and [(C 8 H 5 O 4)(Me 2 NH 2)] (iHOF 4) were efficiently prepared by a straightforward synthesis approach in DMF and H 2 O solutions. The alternating-current (AC) impedance testing in humid conditions revealed that all four iHOFs were temperature- and humidity-dependent σ, with the greatest value reaching 10-2 S·cm−1. As expected, the high density of free carboxylic acid groups, crystallization water, and protonated [Me 2 NH 2 ]+ units offer adequate protons and hydrophilic environments for effective proton transport. Furthermore, the σ values of these iHOFs with different functional groups were compared. It was discovered that it dropped in the following order under 100 °C and 98 % relative humidity (RH): σ iHOF 1 (1.72 × 10−2 S·cm−1) > σ iHOF 2 (4.03 × 10−3 S·cm−1) > σ iHOF 3 (1.46 × 10−3 S·cm−1) > σ iHOF 4 (4.86 × 10−4 S·cm−1). Finally, we investigated the causes of the above differences and the proton transport mechanism inside the framework using crystal structure data, water contact angle tests, and activation energy values. The petal effect is a well-known natural phenomenon in surface science and has served as inspiration for the creation of several materials with superhydrophobic qualities and high adhesion. As surface roughness has a crucial role in these properties, being able to modulate it could help us design materials at will. Capillary penetration frustrates diffusion and promotes large contact angles as well as high adhesion. Polystyrene surfaces were created using the spin-coating technique. By varying the polymer concentration, the surface roughness was modified. To determine the roughness parameters, atomic force microscopy was used. We recorded advancing and receding contact angles using water and glycerol as test liquids to study contact angle hysteresis, the work of adhesion and the apparent surface energy, which was determined with the Chibowski and Perea–Carpio method. For the purpose of elucidating the wetting states, captive bubble experiments were conducted. Using an easy method, we create polystyrene surfaces with both superhydrophobicity and strong adhesion, where the roughness area factor regulates wetting transitions from Cassie–Baxter to Wenzel. The receding contact angle suggests capillary penetration, which we demonstrate by captive bubble experiments. In addition, a link was found between the surface roughness and apparent surface energy. Durable superhydrophobic fabrics with electromagnetic wave absorption were highly valuable in practical applications. In this work, durable superhydrophobic cotton fabrics with electromagnetic wave absorption were successfully prepared by modifying the cotton fabrics with polydopamine (PDA) and then depositing MoS2/RGO (MR) composites and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The surface morphology, crystal structure, and thermal degradation properties of the obtained products were evaluated. The PDA modification enhanced the affinity and adsorption saturation between the fabrics and the MR composites. Here, the MR composites provided the fabrics with wave-absorbing components and rough micro/nanostructure, and the PDMS offered lower surface energy for the treated fabrics. Ultimately, the water contact angle (WCA) of the obtained cotton fabrics could reach 157.2 ± 0.4 ° and the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) was −45.3 dB at 11.1 GHz, which showed excellent superhydrophobicity and microwave absorption properties. In addition, the obtained cotton fabrics displayed excellent robustness against rubbing, bending, and laundrying and satisfactory chemical stability. The unique structure of penguin feathers endows them with extremely high thermal insulation properties in extreme cold environments via sunlight absorption, heat insulation and infrared reflection. Herein, inspired by a thermal insulation strategy of the penguin feathers, the laminated wearable textile with coupled thermal insulation was fabricated for thermal management. The outermost layer, comprised of carbon nanotube-cellulose, simulates the black tip of the penguin's dorsal feather, exhibiting exceptional light-to-heat conversion as it can swiftly elevate its temperature by 5 ℃ upon exposure to simulated sunlight. The middle layer, constructed from polylactic acid, mimics the intermediate section of the penguin's feather, achieving effective heat insulation by trapping significant amounts of air. And the innermost layer MnO2-cellulose membrane is functionally similar to the fluff of the penguin closest to the skin, reflecting the infrared radiation of the body to reduce heat loss. Additionally, the textile underwent hydrophobic modification, endowing it with waterproof properties, resulting in an alteration of the exterior contact angle from 52.2 to 118.8°. Furthermore, the textile displayed anti-ultraviolet capabilities (with ultraviolet transmittance below 8%), excellent mechanical performance (with tensile strength is 3.22 MPa) and active deicing properties, enhancing the wearable comfort. This work represents a versatile and comprehensive textile learning from the bionic structure of penguin feathers for highly efficient thermal management applications, making it attractive for textiles to satisfy various wearable applications in cold environments and even extreme weather conditions. With a growing focus on sustainable building thermal regulation for buildings, cellulose foams have emerged as promising materials due to their low thermal conductivity and biodegradable properties. However, their flammability and hygroscopic nature limit practical applications. This is attributed to the abundant hydroxy groups of cellulose. In this study, a sustainable, simple, and cost-effective method was proposed for the synthesis of multifunctional thermal insulation materials based on cellulose nanofiber composite foam with hydrophobic, flame retardant, and thermally insulating performance. As a result, the cellulose nanofiber composite foam showed a high mechanical modulus (6.3 ± 0.3 MPa), high compression strength (0.78 ± 0.10 MPa), and specific modulus (246.2 ± 34.4 MPa·cm3·g⁻1). The homogeneous three-dimensional (3D) porous network structure of cellulose nanofiber composite foam resulted in outstanding thermal insulation capabilities (LOI values of 60.7 ± 3.2, UL-94 V-0 rating) and low thermal conductivity (36.3 ± 0.8 mW·m⁻1 K⁻1). Furthermore, the incorporation of phytic acid (PA) imparted high flame retardancy, while cellulose nanofiber composite foam modified with 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (POTS) maintained outstanding hydrophobicity (static water contact angle of 145.5° ± 0.2°) even under harsh environmental conditions. In this way, it is believed that cellulose nanofiber composite foam with light weight, high mechanical strength, thermal insulation, high flame retardancy, and hydrophobicity has great potential in thermal insulation materials. The purpose of this study is to improve the performance of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ultrafiltration membrane with graphene oxide (GO) that was synthesized from the pyrolysis of polypropylene (PP) bottles. The amount of GO loading in the membrane structure was 0.05, 0.15, and 0.25 wt%. x‐ray diffractometer, FTIR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle (CA), water content, porosity, mechanical strength were used to characterize the synthesized membranes. Cross‐sectional SEM results of membranes indicated that the modification of the membrane caused the formation of finger‐like pores in the bottom part and also these holes increased the dye rejection efficiency in the membranes of (18 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP/0.15 wt% GO) and (14 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP/0.25 wt% GO). The CA of the synthesized membranes were decreased from 70 in (18 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP) to 62 in (14 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP/0.15 wt% GO), which indicates the increase in hydrophilicity of these membranes. The results showed that the best performance is related to the membranes (18 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP/0.15 wt% GO) and (14 wt% PVC/2 wt% PVP/0.25 wt% GO) with a rejection efficiency of 92% and 83% for 100 ppm methyl blue. Poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) is a thermoresponsive polymer, which presents a transition from hydrophilic to hydrophobic behavior close to the physiological temperature, being promising for biomedical applications. However, the production of finished products with PNVCL is difficult due to its high mechanical fragility in the solid state. In the present work, in order to prepare a thermoresponsive film with good mechanical properties, a blend of PNVCL with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was prepared. Three compositions of PNVCL/TPU were studied with mass proportions of 90/10, 70/30, and 50/50, respectively. The films were flexible, miscible and presented different thermoresponsive behaviors, with changing from transparent to opaque varying from 31 to 40°C. Contact angle analysis showed significant changes in the hydrophilicity of the films' surfaces with temperature variation. Moreover, it was possible to induce a change in solid films from transparent to opaque by varying the temperature and verify the reversibility of this change. In addition, tensile tests were carried out, which proved, for PNVCL/TPU blends, the reduction of film brittleness with TPU increase. Methods such as gas stripping and vacuum-assisted gas stripping (VAGS) result in significant removal of water from the bioreactor, thus requiring continuous water replenishment in the bioreactor. In this study, we developed a hydrophobic stainless steel meshes capable of selectively recovering concentrated ABE stream from the bioreactor during VAGS. Three stainless steel meshes with pore sizes of 180 µm, 300 µm, and 425 µm were made hydrophobic and oleophilic with zinc oxide (ZnO) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Butanol concentrations in the model solutions range from 3 to 10 g/L which mimic concentrations typically produced during batch ABE fermentation. The meshes were integrated in a 5-L bioreactor containing 2.5 L of operational ABE model solution followed by the evaluation of selective extraction of ABE from both cell-free and Clostridium beijerinckii-rich ABE model solutions. The results show that the 180-µm ZnO/PDMS-coated mesh retained 54–64% more water in the bioreactor without C. beijerinckii cells and 61–65% more water with cells compared to the uncoated mesh. Furthermore, the butanol concentration of condensates recovered with 180-µm ZnO-PDMS-coated mesh was up to 10.8-fold greater than that of uncoated counterpart. Our data demonstrate that the developed ZnO-PDMS mesh can recover high concentrations of ABE while selectively retaining water in the bioreactor. Additionally, this technology demonstrates the potential for real-time ABE recovery during the fermentation of lignocellulosic and colloidal materials, without the concern of clogging the separation system. Efficient wound and burn healing is crucial for minimising complications, preventing infections, and enhancing overall well-being, necessitating the development of innovative strategies. This study aimed to formulate a novel thin film combining chitosan, carboxymethyl cellulose, tannic acid, and beeswax for improved wound healing applications. Several formulations, incorporating chitosan, carboxymethyl cellulose, tannic acid, and beeswax in various percentages, were utilized to deposit thin films via the solvent evaporation technique, Mechanical properties, morphology, antioxidant activity, antibacterial efficacy, and wound healing potential were evaluated. The optimized thin film (M4), composed of 2% chitosan, 2% carboxymethyl cellulose, and 1% tannic acid, along with 0.2% glycerol and 0.2% tween80, exhibited a thickness of 39.0 ± 1.14 μm and a tensile strength of 0.275 ± 0.003 MPa. It demonstrated a swelling degree of 283.0 ± 2.0% and a drug release capacity of 89.4% within 24 h. The film also showed a low contact angle of 40.5° and a water vapour transmission rate of 1912.25 ± 13.10 g m−2 0.24 h−1. FT-IR spectroscopy indicated that chitosan and carboxymethyl cellulose were cross-linked through amide linkages, with tannic acid occupying the interstitial spaces and hydrogen bonding stabilizing the structure. Microscopy of M4 revealed a uniform morphology. The film exhibited strong antioxidant activity of (95.17 ± 0.02%) and antibacterial efficiency (80.8%) against S. aureus. In a rabbit model, the film significantly enhanced burn and excision wound recovery, with 90.0 ± 3.3% healing for burns and 88.85 ± 1.7% for infected wounds by day 7. Complete skin regeneration was observed within 10–12 days. The M4 thin film demonstrated exceptional mechanical properties and bioactivity, offering protection against pathogens and promoting efficient wound healing. In order to obtain food packaging film with better performance, whey protein concentrate (WPC) and egg white protein (EWP) were used as film‐forming substrates, and its film properties were modified by transglutaminase (TG). Then the effect of TG on the mechanical, physical, barrier, and microstructural properties of the WPC/EWP composite biodegradable film was investigated, and its preliminary application potential was explored. Compared to WPC and EWP films, WPC/EWP composite film had higher transmittance, tensile strength (TS), and thermal stability. Fluorescence results showed that the film experienced fluorescence quenching after TG treatment. Fourier transform infrared and x‐ray diffraction results showed that WPC and EWP had good compatibility in the biodegradable film, the hydrogen bond interaction of film was increased due to TG, resulting in an increase in TS. Meanwhile, the water vapor permeability and contact angle of WPC/EWP film treated with TG at 5 U/g protein increased by 28% and 76.1%, respectively. Besides, the WPC/EWP biodegradable film modified by TG (TG‐W/E) was applied as a coating film on cherry tomatoes, effectively reducing the weight loss rate during storage from 14.2% to 10.8%. Furthermore, indexes, such as solid content, spoilage rate, hardness, pH, and lycopene, showed that the film had a good preservation effect on cherry tomatoes. To conclude, the appropriate addition of TG has a positive effect on the film properties of the WPC/EWP biodegradable film, which is beneficial to the development and utilization of protein‐based film. Liquid composite molding (LCM) is a promising option for low‐cost manufacturing of high‐performance composites compared to traditional prepreg‐autoclave methods. Void formation may be the most significant roadblock to such adaptation of LCM. In this article, the hypothesis that higher wettability, that is, lower contact angles of liquid on solids, would lead to lower void content for LCM is tested. First, a theory that calculates the energy required to form a bubble with varying contact angles is formulated by considering interfacial energy differences of a system with and without it. To experimentally prove this hypothesis, six different carbon fiber reinforcement samples were prepared each with a different fiber surface treatment. The wettability from the surface treatments was evaluated with contact angle measurements based on capillary rise between two fiber yarns. Void formation in situ during infusion was evaluated by a series of 1D infusion experiments using the same six surface modifications. Of the six samples, the reinforcements coated with fluorinated alkane and aminosilane showed the highest wettability and lowest void content, confirming that a lower contact angle can reduce the formation of voids during the infusion process. A multifunctional absorbing foam (CIPs‐COP/CNTs/PDMS) is fabricated via a simple template casting method, employing mesoporous carbonyl iron (CIPs) and carbonized orange peel (COP) as absorbing agents, along with flexible PDMS modified by CNTs serving as the matrix material. An elaborate design in the work is that a nano‐micron hierarchical rough structure is constructed via coating CNTs on foam surface, aiming to harvest synergistic effect of hydrophobicity and absorbing performance, where the contact angle is 136.2° and reflection loss (RLmin) reaches −48.2 dB. The absorbing stability and resistance sensitivity are investigated. The results manifest that CIPs‐COP/CNTs/PDMS foam exhibits highly sensitive resistance responses to force, including strength and direction. The foam's RLmin values remain nearly unchanged at ‐46.0 dB after 365 days of exposure to atmosphere, indicating a steady absorption properties. Significantly, to broaden the absorption bandwidth, tri‐layer square pedestal foam is assembled, the integrated structure feature is similar to ancient architecture, achieving RLmin of −52.0 dB and broadband of 12.5 GHz, covering full of Ku and X bands, and part of C band. The CIPs‐COP/CNTs/PDMS foam is expected to become a multi‐function material for outdoor application due to its hydrophobicity, machine‐electricity sensitivity, and stable absorbing properties. Introduction: 316L stainless steel (316L SS) has poor wear and corrosion resistance compared to that of the Cp-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V implants [when studied under a physiological environment using phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)]. However, 316L SS implants are cost-effective. Their wear and corrosion properties can be improved by depositing biocompatible coatings. Method: In this research work, a polymer coating of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) was deposited at optimized parameters (20 V for 3 min) on 316L SS via electrophoretic deposition (EPD). We compared the performance between of the PEEK coating and hybrid PEEK/PTFE coatings for biomedical applications. The PEEK/PTFE coating was sintered at 350°C for 30 min. Results and Discussion: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that the PEEK/PTFE coating showed a uniform coating with a uniform thickness of ∼80 µm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of bonds attributed to the PEEK and PTFE coatings. The PEEK/PTFE coating exhibited adequate average surface roughness (Ra) of 2.1 ± 0.2 µm with a high value of contact angle of 132.71 ± 3, indicating the hydrophobic nature of the PEEK/PTFE coating. Scratch tests evaluated that the PEEK/PTFE coating demonstrated a 7 N load, which indicated the good adhesion between the coating and 316L SS. Furthermore, the PEEK/PTFE coating demonstrated good wear resistance, capable of withstanding a 7 N load under dry conditions, and showed a specific wear rate of ∼0.0114 mm3/Nm. Electrochemical analysis conducted using the phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution demonstrated that the corrosion rate of 316L SS was reduced from 0.9431 mpy to 0.0147 mpy by depositing the PEEK/PTFE coating. To separate the oil/water mixtures, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber mats were produced using electrospinning. Additionally, PVDF films were made using the solvent evaporation method, and the effectiveness of their separation was evaluated against that of nanofiber mats. By choosing oxygen‐functionalized graphene (with HNO3) as a nano reinforcement, the hydrophobic properties of the PVDF materials made using both techniques were transformed into hydrophilic ones. It has been determined how the characteristics of the solution (viscosity, conductivity, molecular weight, surface tension, and contact angle) relate to the diameter of the nanofiber. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy‐attenuated total reflection (FT‐IR/ATR), x‐rays diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA)/DTG, and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) have been used to study the chemical and crystal structures, morphology, and thermal behavior of PVDF materials. The addition of oxygen‐functionalized graphene was found to cause a peak in the PVDF composites' FT‐IR/ATR spectrum, roughly in the wavenumber 1400 cm−1, which was identified as the C‐OH bending vibration. Together with the shift in peak strengths, the lack of a discernible shift in the PVDF peak location in the XRD patterns indicates that the addition of oxygen‐functionalized graphene has caused a phase transition in the PVDF in the semi‐crystal structure. Surface hydrophobicity has also been measured using contact angle measurements. The addition of oxygen‐functionalized graphene has been seen to decrease the PVDF's contact angle, resulting in the development of a hydrophilic characteristic. These PVDF‐based materials' oil/water separation capabilities have also been evaluated. PVDF composite films were not as effective as PVDF nanofiber mats with oxygen‐functionalized graphene in the studies to separate the oil/water mixtures. The permeate flux value was determined to be 240 Lm−2 h−1, and the oil/water separation efficiency of nanofibers containing 10% (m/m) PVDF534000 combined with oxygen‐functional graphene was found to be 99%. The effect of surface roughness and temperature on wettability of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) melt on steel substrates is assessed. A plot of contact angle, Φ, Vs. time, τ, revealed the significant effect of temperature on wetting compared to surface roughness. The surface free energy of the steel substrate decreased by about 22% with increase in surface roughness from 0.21 to 3.8 μm. The measured surface tension of the polymer melt was 31.36 mN m−1 at 260°C. The variation in the cooling rate of the solidifying molten PET resulted in varying degree of polymer opacity. The opacity variations were quantified as a function of pixel intensity. The opacity of the solidified PET melt drops sharply declines at lower cooling rates before stabilizing at higher rates. No significant difference in the mean pixel intensity is observed between PET melts solidified at different substrate temperatures. Three distinct regimes in PET melt solidification are identified: (i) increased crystallization propensity at lower cooling rates (<8°C min−1), (ii) dominance of amorphous characteristics at higher rates (>199°C min−1), and (iii) a transitional regime at intermediate cooling rates. In order to tackle the issue of excessive coal dust and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) concurrently in underground coal mines, an alkaline dust suppressant was formulated by combining surfactant sodium sec-alkyl sulfonate (SAS60) and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) at a certain mass ratio, meant for injection into coal seams. This study principally targeted long-flame coal extracted from Hequ County, located in Shanxi Province, China. The objective was to investigate and analyze the underlying process of how alkaline dust suppressants affect the wettability of coal. A comprehensive strategy including contact angle determination, Fourier transform infrared absorption spectrometer(FTIR) analysis, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption tests, scanning electron microscope(SEM) experimental studies, and molecular dynamics simulations was employed for this examination. The results revealed that merging Na2CO3 with SAS60 could reduce the coal's contact angle. Despite the core structure of the coal surface staying unchanged after alkaline dust suppressant treatment, a rise in the number of hydrophilic functional groups was observed. This count notably surpassed the amount of hydrophobic functional groups, consequently boosting the coal's hydrophilicity. The permeability of the examined coal specimens was chiefly affected by the existence of macropores and mesopores. Processing with 0.05 wt% SAS60 and 1.0 wt% Na2CO3, the coal acquired additional pores and cracks, causing an upswing of average pore size by 25.79% and a 30.64% increase in the maximum gas adsorption. This facilitated more straightforward infiltration of water into the coal dust. Molecular dynamics simulation outcomes indicated a closer affiliation between coal and water following the incorporation of Na2CO3. It led to a heightened activity in water molecule movement, fortifying intermolecular electrostatic interactions, and fostering the creation of hydrogen bonds. Consequently, this improved the coal's wettability. The increase in the mass fraction of Na2CO3 directly corresponds to a more considerable enhancement in the solution's ability to wet the coal. ABSTRACT Myrrh oleo‐gum‐resin (MOGR) is a natural substance that has a rich history of medicinal use due to its anti‐inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. The present study reports on the fabrication and assessment of pectin and K‐carrageenan composite films infused with varying proportions (0.3%, 0.5%, and 0.7%) of MOGR. Morphological analysis of the film samples was conducted using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The results indicated that the introduction of MOGR led to a notable increase in surface roughness. The SEM micrographs of the films showed that the MOGR addition had an important effect on the microstructure of the film. The surface hydrophobicity of the MOGR‐loaded films increased, as confirmed by the rise in the contact angle. Moreover, there was an increase in the thickness (0.062 ± 0.004–0.095 ± 0.006 mm) and opacity (1.24 ± 0.07–9.41 ± 0.24) of the films with the addition of MOGR; however, tensile strength (7.30 ± 0.50–4.92 ± 0.34 MPa), elongation at break (32.41% ± 1.0%–29.70% ± 0.24%), and barrier properties decreased. Additionally, a rise in MOGR concentration corresponded to a rise in overall color difference ΔE (0.77 ± 0.03–5.09 ± 0.49) of the films. Plastics make up a great portion of solid waste that constitutes an emerging threat to the natural environment. Among plastics, polyethylene is the most widely used in the world. In this research, polyethylene materials with different densities designed for packaging applications are the subject of a degradation study. The materials were exposed to simulated solar exposure and were characterized by a combination of analytical techniques to compare both chemical and physical changes, including attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR), water contact angle measurements, Raman spectroscopy, grazing incidence X‐ray Diffraction (GIXRD) and nanoindentation tests. The experimental data were systematically analyzed using statistic methods. It was found that the extent of the increase of polar groups, hydrophilicity, crystallinity, and elastic modulus depends on both the density of polyethylene and the duration of UV aging. These changes result from photooxidation and the subsequent structure reorganization occurring in amorphous chains. The implementation of various analytical techniques and statistical analysis provides a holistic understanding of polyethylene degradation behaviors. The knowledge of increased hydrophilicity/polarity in polyethylene is crucial for understanding the fate of plastics in the environment because such polyethylene changes also facilitate the environmental biodegradation on initially non‐polar polyethylene. Critical water crisis due to overpopulation, industrialization and urbanization has resulted to the shortfall of providing safe drinking water to one billion people in the world. This work intends to fabricate modified hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane by hydrophilic chitosan extracted from waste fish scales for wastewater treatment. Chitosan was blended with PVDF in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone solution by solution casting method. Three different concentrations of 1, 3 and 5 wt% of chitosan were taken. The morphological, spectral and thermal analysis of the produced films were elaborately studied. The contact angle decreased with the increase of chitosan content from 82.64° to 60.97°. The tensile strength decreases from 1.11 to 0.38 MPa and Young’s modulus decreased from 12.08 to 7.4 MPa with increase in chitosan content in the film from 1 to 3 %. The performance of microparticle embedded membrane was compared with the pristine PVDF membrane, and it was affirmed that the microsized-chitosan embedded PVDF membrane manifests a broad promising application perspective towards wastewater treatment owing to its excellent water flux (76 L m−2 h−1) as well as antibacterial properties. Non-Newtonian viscous fluids such as yogurt, honey, etc., due to their extremely high viscosity and complex fluidity, remain on food containers after use, where adhesion and staining occurs, which is a great inconvenience and causes a lot of wasted resources. Hydrophobic coatings can be an excellent candidate for eliminating liquid waste. Inexpensive wollastonite nanoparticles were used to build rough micro- and nano-structures, and chitosan was used to emulsify rice bran wax to prepare green and low surface energy emulsions. The above two were mechanically mixed to obtain the hydrophobic emulsion, and coated on the paper surface and heat-treated to prepare the hydrophobic paper. Contact angles up to 157.3°. The coating exhibits good self-cleaning properties for a wide range of non-Newtonian viscous food liquids and shows excellent resistance to repeated machine bending and multiple abrasion damages, while maintaining its hydrophobicity. After 40 cycles of friction, the contact angle is 148.1°, which is still close to 150° and has good hydrophobicity.
