The widespread use of geographic information and applications has been particularly favoured by the rapid changes and developments in GIS that have been penetrated into citizen’s everyday life. Geographical data has become an integral component of decision-making processes across various sectors, including urban planning, environmental management, and public health. The growth of geographic information and the corresponding demand create the need for libraries to play a central role both in its dissemination through organized collections (e.g. maps, geospatial data) and services, as well as enhancing the geo-skills of their users by organizing geo-information seminars and similar activities. The purpose of this work is to raise awareness amongst librarians to get involved in user education programs aiming to develop the geo-informational skills of their users. Though, the evolving role of libraries in promoting geo-information literacy will be explored, and their central contribution to enhancing the ability of users to understand, interpret and effectively use geospatial data will be examined. Additionally, contemporary methods of geo-informational literacy projects enhancing users' geographical skills used by libraries abroad will be presented. Finally, the paper will highlight the necessary skills that the librarian should have in order to successfully fulfil his/her educational duties.

Rapid developments in all areas of today’s life and society have highlighted Skills as key factor, both for formal education and lifelong learning, as well as for the workplace and the economy. Specifically, digital achievements in technology and information have a direct impact on libraries as places of knowledge, learning and awareness, as well as on their employees in terms of the skills they need to have or acquire and continuously develop. In this context, collaborative networks, library associations and consortia, can contribute to putting forward the challenges, needs and changes related to the skills of library staff in the 21st century. This paper presents the results of a survey carried out by the Hellenic Economic Libraries Network (H.E.LI.N.) in July 2023 in Greece and Cyprus, with the aim of recording the views of employees in Libraries and Information Centers on the skills they must possess in the modern information environment. In addition, the survey highlights those skills that participants consider improved by their presence in the activities and actions of H.E.LI.N.

The implementation of information literacy activities and programs occupies a central place in libraries in order to provide information and training on available services and resources, to promote the development of skills in the use and management of information and to strengthen the link with the user community. The return to post-pandemic presence in educational institutions was faced with the challenge of adopting the hybrid format with the design of didactic proposals according to user’ s needs and expectations. Likewise, the latest advances in artificial intelligence applied to research and learning present a new challenge and the need to strengthen the collaborative alliance with teachers and researchers to think of creative proposals together. The case of the Central Library of the National University of San Martín will be presented, which in recent years has built different in-person, virtual and hybrid spaces for information literacy.

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is an innovative idea to promote higher education accessibility and success in the world today. It is a global, online database that stores academic credit records of students, enabling institutions to verify course and subject details and provide a more efficient and secure system for storing, tracking, and evaluating student credits and provides numerous benefits to students. The paper highlights the advantages and disadavatnges of ABC along with its functions and the role of libraries in ABC. Authors found that the awareness of ABC at an institutional level is important in order to ensure its successful implementation and use.

The rapid technological changes in cartographical applications and information systems favoured the widespread use of geographical information in human’s everyday life. Map/ GIS libraries maintain a variety of materials in print and electronic form while offering a range of services to their users, -experts and/or not - in order to meet their various information needs. The continuous spread of digital cartography along with the complex approaches to the analysis of geospatial data both in academia and in the daily life of the citizens requires ensuring the correct and maximum use of geo-library collections. Additionally, the incorporation of technology and services in the library daily work affect how librarians keep up with the instruction and training they provide to their users. User education and the development of information literacy programs in libraries is not a new concept, but it is a long-standing, and a traditional component of their function. According to ALA (1989) to be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information. The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness amongst librarians in their involvement in user’s education programs and in communicating their geo-collections. The paper examines concepts and definitions related to user education, explores how significant Map/GIS libraries approach information literacy and what methods are used for this achievement to be accomplished. Furthermore, the paper underlines the role of the Map/GIS librarian and the necessary skills that he/she must have in order to successfully fulfil his educational duties.

The articulation between the Library and Bedelía is born from a recurring need at the moment of the registrations to the Faculty of Law, observing that a number of registered had difficulties using the platforms used in the trajectory academic. With this work it has been possible to generate a synergy between the collective Librarians/Teachers/Students valid to be shared and promoted. This preparation was in charge of the Library since it has a training team in Information literacy that includes among its contents the leveling in media information. To elaborate the program that was applied, a diagnosis of the digital needs of users who opted for training. were designed Guides for the topics of managing email and editing documents online and these were delivered to the participants. The workshops were held in the Salon of Computer Science of the Faculty of Law on Saturdays since the participants did not could attend during the working week for work reasons and the employees came from honorary form. By way of conclusion, we say that information problems are become more complex accompanied by the rapid evolution of digital media, the appearance of new tools, the permanent updating of systems, networks, and the way that give new meaning to their existence force us to reformulate again the need to Digitally literate at the beginning of each generation for timely leveling.

The work presents the results of the first stage of the research on the insertion of competence in Information in the curricula of two courses of Library Science in Brazil and Mexico. Therefore, it is adopted as a methodological approach to exploratory research of a bibliographic nature. The empirical material examined was the curricular flows, the elements and, in some cases, the programmatic contents of the disciplines of two Library Science courses and similar ones existing in Brazil and Mexico. Collect and analyze two due dice by means of the content analysis of the items and discipline programs. The results reveal that Competência em Informação is more and more present in the format of disciplines in the curricula of two courses of Library Science in Brazil and Mexico, well as contained as a programmatic content of some discipline of the curriculum. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that the curricula do not have a standardization of the use of the term "competence in Information" in both countries. I conclude that competence in Information is a content that is presented in both a disciplinary and transversal way in some curricula, but that still no two curricula are found in most of Brazil, differently from Mexico.

Experience of advocacy in and around LIS across the UK.

The ever-changing education and information landscape has brought with it an increased focus on teaching pedagogy and curriculum design. In response, Latin American Studies faculty are pursuing creative pedagogical directions and approaches in areas such as digital scholarship and information literacy in partnership with librarians and archivists. This roundtable will explore faculty-librarians practice-based initiatives focusing on issues related to the Global North and South. The uniqueness of this roundtable is that both the teaching faculty and the librarian representing each academic institution will be present. The University at Albany will discuss the redesign of a Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies undergraduate major, including a revamped theory and methods capstone, where both the faculty and the librarian actively participate in its development and implementation. The Ohio State University will examine the integration of digital humanities pedagogy and research methods into a course on the literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. University of Connecticut will present on their award-winning project, The Puerto Rico Citizenship Archive Project, a library-faculty collaboration to create a database that gives access to all the documentation regarding the granting of U.S. citizenship to the people of Puerto Rico. Participants will explore the potential of faculty/librarian/archival partnerships to introduce transformative Latin American curricula and research practices. The roundtable will facilitate a discussion on best practices, lessons learned, scalable design and benefits to Latin American Studies faculty and students.

The use of new technologies as teaching resources in the classroom has been shown as a motivating way for students to support teaching practices. Such resources can promote the shift from purely theoretical school context to practical experience and meaningful learning. This experience report is based on a survey of the Assistive Technology acquisitions carried out by the Coordination of Inclusive Actions - CDIN of the Extension and Culture Department of the Federal Institute of Brasília - IFB, based on the experience during the managers who acted among 2010 and 2016. The objective is to relate the acquisitions obtained, their destination and their utilization to the students, identifying which courses and IFB Campuses have benefited

Ostensibly, there has been a recent rise in ‘post-truth’ thinking (Higgins, 2016; Rochlin, 2017; Speed & Mannion, 2017; Suiter, 2016). The Oxford English Dictionary, which made ‘post-truth’ its word of the year for 2016, defines post-truth as “[r]elating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping political debate or public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief” (“Post-truth,” 2017). Going into more detail, post-truth is described not just the (i) proliferation of false information, but also (ii) the attitude that truth is, at best, a convenient coincidence that can be superseded by ideological, instrumental, and/or emotional concerns and that (iii) acting on certain beliefs, specifically false ones, can be a good in and of itself. While this seems like an apt way of characterizing ‘post-truth’, I argue that (i) post-truth is, at most, a rhetorical strategy, (ii) that it is a concept grounded in vicious circularity, and (iii) that it equivocates between things being true with those that merely pass as true. The very fact that so-called instances of post-truth are under scrutiny and that purveyors of post-truth often have to frame their views in terms of truth claims, provides evidence that truth still has currency in most discourse. The question is whether these truth claims or assertions are, in fact, warranted. The purpose of my talk is to question the widespread use of post-truth as a term and concept. I propose alternative ways of describing and assessing the contemporary situation regarding disinformation and misinformation. Namely, I focus on the role of norms in the act of assertion (e.g., putting factual claims forward) and how clarifying these might help us manage the ‘post-truth’ phenomenon. My contention is that focusing on justification as a norm of assertion, provides useful tools for dealing with disinformation that sidesteps the problematic conceptual issues associated with post-truth. I will end by providing a few examples of how my focus on this justificatory project has influenced my approach to teaching information literacy to students.

A contextual approach to the phenomenon of false news in the field of information and documentation is presented, taking into account the role that professionals in the sector can exercise efficiently and efficiently. We present a description of initiatives and projects, both from library institutions and professionals, as well as from the education and communication sectors, also affected and involved in the problem of fake news and posttruth. In the conclusions the required revision of a series of practices and activities so far developed is stated, with both the participation and the collaboration with the other professional sectors involved and the inexcusable empowerment of training projects in digital / media competition.

The need and importance of the formation of information competencies in Cuban universities has been exposed in the scientific literature and in normative documents of the Ministry of Higher Education. Previous research reveals insufficiencies in the integration of information competencies into the academic curriculum of undergraduate degree programs in Cuban contemporary university. The analysis of the literature evidenced that one of the fundamental causes is related to the insufficiency of proposals that guarantee the transversality and convergence of the formation of information competencies in the undergraduate training processes. Therefore, this research aims to establish that curricular strategies, by guaranteeing transversality and convergence at the level of the entire curriculum, constitute a suitable variant for the curricular integration of information competencies into the academic curriculum of undergraduate degree programs in Cuban contemporary university. In the research, a review of the literature published in three Cuban scientific journals recognized in several studies as the most productive in topics of information competencies-ALFIN and in the ALFIN / IberoAmerican Wiki-Repository-Cuba, was carried out. Related to the formation of information competencies in undergraduate training processes in Cuban universities; similarly, foreign investigations on the subject were consulted. The systematization allowed an approach to the Cuban and international experiences on the integration of the formation of informational competences in the university curricula.

Many international researches confirmed the importance of the School Library for the Students learning. Recently the IEA PIRLS survey has revealed a positive relationship between the Reading comprehension performance and the size of the School Library collection. In this paper, we verify the relation between the results of INVALSI tests in Italian and Mathematics - on school grades 5,8,10 - with the presence and functioning of the School Library. The information on the School Library comes from the School Questionnaire compiled by the School Principal in the course of the Self-evaluation Report. The analysis confirm a positive relationship in each school grade and in both subjects of investigation.

In these last 60 years, the concept and practice of literacy in the world have been expanding and becoming more complex in accordance with the transformations produced in society, education and contemporary culture, so that, in the new century, they renew their scope and meaning. The literacy task of educational institutions is supported by the recognition of education as a universal right enshrined in various international declarations and conventions. From this perspective, every young person who completes their compulsory education has the right to go through the comprehensive literacy process. Of the multiple literacies involved in this process, the informational literacy sustain and constitute the others given that adequate information management is needed in all areas of knowledge. In this work we reflect on the contribution of information literacy to the comprehensive literacy process, because we consider that it is a fundamental component in the training of young people, what is its contribution to educational improvement and how in practice it can become a bridge for the interdisciplinary development of didactic proposals.

Literacy from an expanded and renewed concept leads us to think about a comprehensive process that involves the individual in all its dimensions to provide them with multiple skills and tools - multiliteracies - that allow them to develop to their full potential and understand and respond to the complex and changing demands of our society. This vision of comprehensive literacy has been the focus of the UNES Project - University and Secondary Schools of the National University of San Martín (2014-2017) from which the literacy activities grouped into two lines were proposed: the mathematical-scientific and the informational (IL). Librarians and teachers worked collaboratively on the design of an innovative proposal: Information Literacy as a bridge for the interdisciplinary development of didactic sequences. To carry out this task, the reflection on the literacy process and the information culture in secondary schools was taken as a starting point to in turn think about what the demands and needs are for the comprehensive training of 21st century citizens and what place IL- and therefore the librarians - occupy in this process. Various applications of transversal informational competencies were explored in teaching and as an instrument for the selection of content, which resulted in a process of resignification of IL as a pedagogical-didactic tool that sustains and enhances learning. The need to integrate this knowledge into the school career from an early age and in a sustained manner over time is highlighted and possible paths for its implementation are presented. Sizing IL as a transversal axis of the comprehensive literacy process and valuing its contribution to educational improvement is an invitation to rethink the literacy role of librarians and to create multidisciplinary collaborative alliances to capitalize on the potential of this facet of our profession.

Regarding the high importance of credibility evaluation of health information online in every day and career life, the current research aimed to explore how expert users including students and faculty members evaluate health information on the web especially with regard to their personality trait of conscientiousness. By considering the extensive body of literature and research methodologies, a random sample including 148 students and faculty members located at the two faculties of Medicine Sciences and Nursing and Midwife at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences was the population of the study. Two validated questionnaires related to credibility and conscientiousness was distributed among the participants. Gathered data were then analyzed by SPSS software. Data analysis showed that there existed some problems in evaluating the credibility of online health information and quick retrieval. About half of the participants evaluate web health information as credible often and very often. Most important quality assessment criteria were objectivity, currency, and authority. There was a significant correlation between conscientiousness and credibility assessment of the students and faculty members. There appears a change in trust to information found accord with the change in conscientiousness levels. There was no significant correlation between conscientiousness and trust to information among ill people. Quality and credibility were identified as most important problems in assessing health information on the web. There is a significant and meaningful correlation between conscientiousness and trust or mistrust to health information available via the Web.

The library services have changed very fast in the digital era. The library customers have access to multiple sources of information and expect quality material within the shortest possible time irrespective of the format of information. Hence, library must provide quality service in order to retain and increase its importance for its users and succeed in enhancing the role of the library in teaching, learning and research. Quality services means those which satisfy users’ expectations and perceptions. Proper understanding of customers' perceptions along service quality dimensions is essential for LIS professionals to recognize the customer expectations. This paper briefly explains the concept of service quality; trace its development and highlight some results of service quality studies using various models, with an objective to describe and identify the issues meriting attention by the library professionals to gear up the library products and services so that user communities get satisfied coming to library.
