Although LGBTQ+ persons are one of the largest minority groups in the workforce, little has been written on the most helpful way to mentor them for leadership. We present a model of relational mentoring based on mentor critical awareness of their own intersected identities and sharing vulnerabilities.

This article shares the findings of a qualitative study of a community-based organization in Mexico and the emancipatory pedagogy practiced there in a time characterized by a changing global economic order, conflict and war, corruption and geographic displacement. To make sense of the transnational philosophical fusion and the pedagogical practices in the organization, I draw on Karen Barad's ideas to propose an ethico-onto-epistemology of emancipatory learning to uncover power in spaces of self/knowledge that are outside the binaries of critical-theoretical practice. It suggests an understanding of emancipatory learning that is relational, embodied, ethical, and emergent.

Increased technology, integration of the global economy, and the shift from investing in long-term employees to hiring temporary contract workers have spawned pervasive employment insecurity. This trend has led to a growing industry of career and marketing professionals, who have found a career niche in helping job seekers create personal brands and apply marketing tactics to their personal identities. This article looks critically at the use of narrative identity development activities in materials used to teach personal branding to emerging adults and some of the challenges personal branders face in marketing an extended self in virtual space.

How collegiate gay and bisexual men acquire a sociosexual identity appears to affect their sexual health. Analysis of interview data from 25 self-identified collegiate gay or bisexual men resulted in the development of a collective sexual script for men acquiring a sociosexual identity. Changes in an individual's acting out of a cultural scenario seemed to occur when resolving intrapsychic conflict arising from new sexual experiences. Persons working with young collegiate gay and bisexual men may find this sexual script helpful when developing sex education programs. (Contains 4 tables.)

This chapter addresses the complexity of providing workplace ESL by identifying patterns of "best practices" in the related fields of human resource management, adult education, and training and development, all of which have a stake in workplace ESL and the integration of immigrant workers.

Many people perceive rural America as being an almost completely agricultural, farming, or ranching economy. In fact, less than 7 percent of rural employment is in agriculture; service industries account for over half, and service and manufacturing together account for more than 66 percent of employment in rural areas. Rural regions take 50 percent of total earned income in service sectors, especially recreation, tourism, and retirement living, and while many view foreign competition as reducing rural manufacturing, recent studies indicate that manufacturing has decreased only in apparel, textiles, and footwear, while remaining strong in construction, mining, rural factories, and high-skill business activity. Two main barriers make work-related learning difficult in rural settings. First, rural settings can be remote from centers of power where policies are made; knowledge is generated, stored, and disseminated; and opportunities for professional networking are more abundant. Second, small rural businesses may lack the resources in people and training to acquire or provide learning opportunities to employees. In this article, the authors look at specific industries from five economic segments and find that each of these has unique needs and barriers to learning. These segments include tourism and health care; agriculture, forestry, and fishing; mining; education, law enforcement, security, and corrections; and small business.

This review of research focuses on the impact of race and on learning and development in the U.S. workplace from 1980 to 2005. Specifically, we take a historical perspective on race and ethnicity in the United States; summarize and synthesize research in the areas of career development, training, promotion, performance appraisals, mentoring, and social networking; and make recommendations regarding research questions, theory, and research design. Interviews with managers caught between traditional organizational culture and a shift to "learning organizations" show that individual development is important to organizational change; efforts to change managers to fit a culture defined by top management may not succeed if the vision is not shared; and spiritual and moral dimensions of learning and an ethos of community must be developed.
