Aim: This study was designed to assess the effect of vitamin E supplement on Creatine Kinase (CK-MB) C - reactive protein, (C-RP), urea and creatinine of albino rats fed with high fat diet. Methodology: A total of twenty (20) albino rats of both sexes were used in this study. They were grouped into four (4) groups comprising of five (5) rats each. Group 1 was fed with normal diet; group 2 with normal diet and treated with vitamin E supplement (70 mg/kg); group 3 was fed with high fat diet only, while group 4 was fed with high fat diet and treated with vitamin E supplement (70 mg/kg). The treatments were administered daily using oral gavage method for a period 21 days. After the experimental period, the animals were sacrificed and blood samples collected for the analysis of CK-MB, CRP, urea and creatinine respectively using ELISA and colorimetric method with a spectrophotometer. Data generated were analyzed statistically using SPSS version 20 and P = 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The results revealed a significance difference in C-RP (mg/l) levels (P < 0.001) amongst the groups with a decreased C-RP levels in group 2 (1.43 ± 0.39) compared to group 1 (1.94 ± 0.53), then in group 4 (2.27 ± 0.53) which is also decreased compared to group 3 (3.31 ± 0.63). For CK-MB there was also a significant difference among the different groups. In group 2, it was 1.94 ± 0.65 ng/ml which was decreased compared to group 1 (2.22 ± 0.55), and group 4 (2.74 ± 0.68) compared to group 3 (3.31 ± 0.62). For the urea and creatinine results, there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) among the groups when the mean levels were compared. Conclusion: This shows that administration of vitamin E to rats fed normal or high fat diet could significantly reduce the plasma levels of CRP and CK-MB hence having some ameliorative effects on high fat induced inflammatory and cardiovascular risks or conditions.

The liver is an essential organ involved in anabolic and catabolic processes in the body. Substance like paraquat is injurious to the liver by way of oxidative damage. Vitamin E and C are known antioxidant used to tackle oxidative stress. The aim of this study was focused at evaluating the antidotal benefit of vitamin E and C in the treatment of paraquat intoxication in rat. Except “A” group which was the control, all groups were treated with paraquat in doses of 0.02g, 0.04g and 0.06g respectively every 2 weeks for 3 months. All subgroups with “VEC” designation were treated with 500mg of vitamin E and 2000mg/dl of vitamin C weekly for 3 months. Purpose: Sport is a necessity for the development of sound mind and body which are needed for adequate and balanced education. Besides, it is an international phenomenon with socio-political and economic implication. This has facilitated the need for the development of sport facilities alongside other educational and social facilities in universities to enhance the participation of students in sport activities either as a full time programme as in physical education or as a social and recreational activity. The study involves analysing various structural systems use in enveloping sport facilities. It investigates sporting facilities where light weight structure roofing systems have been achieved at minimal cost or expenditures. Methodology: The case study method of research has been adopted. Secondary sources of information shall be from studies by other researchers through books, journals, published and unpublished literature, as well as online sources. Findings: Though the sport complex is not a new building type, but the information was sort, so as to gain knowledge. It is hoped that the sport facility will enhance the development of sport in its environs and also make it possible for people to participate actively in sporting activities. Paraquat has been considered as a toxicant in various countries, since it is not only intensely harmful but yet promptly accessible and generally cheap. Vitamin C and E are notable cancer prevention agents that respond rapidly to free radical and maximally forestall lipid peroxidation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ameliorative impact of vitamin E and C in paraquat induced liver poisoning in rat. A total of 200 male wistar rats were obtained for the study. With 50 rats each, the rats were arranged into four grougs: A, B, C, and D. Each group was partitioned into two subgroups (0 and VEC), each with 25 rodents. The "A" group was not treated with paraquat, while the "B," "C," and "D" groups got 0.02g, 0.04g, and 0.06g of paraquat treatment respectively. All the "0" subgroups were those not treated with Vit E and C and all “VEC” subgroups were those treated with 500mg of vitamin E and 2000mg/dl of vitamin C. The experimental animals (male rats) were 200 and they were classified into 4 groups designated as A, B, C and D. The A served as the control group, B, C and D were test groups classified based on dose of paraquat administered. A was not treated with paraquat, B, C and D were treated with 0.02g, 0.04g and 0.06g of paraquat respectively every two weeks for three months. Each group mentioned had subgroups designated “0” and “VE”; “0” subgroups were subgroups not treated with vitamin E while “VE” were subgroups treated with 500mg of vitamin E. Treatment of vitamin E occurred weekly for one month. Both vitamin E and paraquat treatments occurred orally. After treatment period rats were sacrificed and blood sample collected via cardiac puncture for urea and creatinine assay. The results showed that there was no significant difference in urea levels among paraquat alone treated groups but there was a significant increase in creatinine levels among paraquat alone treated groups. There was a significant decrease in creatinine level after vitamin E treatment. This study has shown that vitamin E is a therapeutic hope for paraquat inflicted nephrotoxicity in rats.

Background: The use of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) has greatly improved the health and lifespan of people living with HIV, however, hepatic dysfunction has been associated with HIV. This study investigated the liver function biomarkers of women living with HIV and who are on ART. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on HIV-positive pregnant women and HIV-positive non-pregnant women in Rivers State, Nigeria. A total of 330 women between 15-60 years participated in this study. HIV-negative pregnant and non-pregnant women served as a control to the test subjects. Sociodemographic data were collected using a well-structured questionnaire. Blood samples were collected for biochemical assay of the liver function biomarkers. The subjects were on Tenofovir-Lamivudine-Efavirenz (TLE) antiretroviral therapy. Data were analyzed statistically on IBM SPSS Version 25 using student’s t - test, ANOVA and compared using the Post hoc test. Results: The results obtained showed a significant increase at p ≤ 0.05 in the ALP, ALT and AST levels of both HIV-positive pregnant and non-pregnant women when compared to the control group. The serum TP level of HIV-positive pregnant women decreased in comparison to the control group. However, the decrease was not statistically significant at p ≤ 0.05. A statistically significant increase in the total protein level was observed in the HIV-positive non-pregnant women when compared to the control group. The albumin level in HIV-positive pregnant women had a statistically insignificant increase in comparison to the control group. HIV-positive non-pregnant women had a decreased level of Albumin at p ≤ 0.05 in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the HIV-positive pregnant and non-pregnant women on ART are prone to adverse alterations in their liver function biomarkers in comparison to the control groups, hence they are vulnerable to liver dysfunction. Thus proper care and regular investigations should be carried out on HIV-positive women on ART.

The A group was the control, B, C and D were test groups classified in light of dose of paraquat given. “A” was not treated with paraquat, B, C and D were treated with 0.02g, 0.04g and 0.06g of paraquat separately at regular intervals of 2 weeks for 3 months. Each group had subgroups assigned "0" and "VEC"; "0" subgroups were subgroups not treated with vitamin E while "VEC" were subgroups treated with 500mg of vitamin E and 2000mg/dl vitamin C. Treatment of vitamin E and C happened week after week for one month. Both vitamins and paraquat treatment happened orally. After treatment period, the rats were sacrificed and blood sample collected through cardiac puncture for urea and creatinine assay. The outcomes showed that there was no significant difference in urea levels among only paraquat treated groups yet there was a significant increase in creatinine levels among only paraquat treatment groups. There was a significant decrease in creatinine level after vitamin E and C treatment. This study has shown that vitamin E and C is capable of restoring kidney function paraquat induced nephrotoxicity in rat.

There has been an increase in the level of oil spillage across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria since the advent of crude oil exploration. The effects of oil pollution cannot be overemphasized, as it is not only detrimental to human health but also to the ecosystem at large. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are veritable tools in Environmental management. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index was used as GIS and RS tools to determine the intensity of pollution caused by oil spillage in the Niger Delta area for the past decade (2010-2020). The land sat imageries of the study area were acquired and NDVI analyses were performed. Five NDVI types were used with the equation NDVI=(NIR-Red)/(NIR+Red). The total land mass covered was 109,582 sq.Km. The results showed that in 2010, Healthy Vegetation was 37,352 sq. Km, which was 34 percent of the total land mass. In 2015, Poor Health vegetation accounted for the highest land mass with a total of 41,976 sq. Km, while Moderate Health Vegetation had the lowest land mass of 12,830 sq.Km. In 2020, Poor Health Vegetation accounted for the highest land mass of 38,324 sq.Km representing 35 Percent of the total land mass while Increasing Vegetation had 13,452 sq.Km with 12 Percent making it the lowest NDVI type for the year. From the results, there was evidence showing of increased Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) negative values across the years in the study area. This was an indication of the high level of pollution. There is a need to mitigate oil spillage to its barest minimum in the study area.

Aim: To study the effect of exposure to crude oil on the liver, ovary, and some oxidative stress parameters in albino rats. Study Design: A total of 50 female albino rats were used in the experiment. The rats were grouped into three: The control group which consisted of 10 rats, the low dose group which consisted of 20 rats, and the high dose group also consisted of 20 rats. The low dosage group was orally administered 1.5 mL crude oil mixed with 300 grams of rat feeds (0.005 mL/g) and the high dosage group was orally administered 3.0 mL crude oil mixed with 300 grams of rat feeds (0.01mL/g), while the control group was fed with normal rat feeds. The treated feeds were given once a day for 35 days. Place of Study: The study was carried out in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Methodology: On the 36th day, the rats were sacrificed and then 5mL of blood from each rat was collected by cardiac puncture into labeled lithium heparin bottles for liver enzymes assay, hormonal assay, and oxidative stress parameters assay, while the livers and ovaries were harvested and fixed in 10% formal saline before tissue processing and histological examinations using H&E staining technique. The collected blood specimens were spun; the plasma was extracted and analyzed in the laboratory for Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), follicle Stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), Prolactin, Malondialdyde (MDA), and Superoxide dismutase (SOD). Statistical analysis was performed using Graphpad prism version 8.02. Results: Significantly higher plasma levels of AST, ALT, and MDA in the treated groups, except for ALP which was only significantly higher in the high-dose group. FSH, LH, Prolactin, and SOD indicated significantly lower levels in the crude oil-treated rats. The histological examinations showed marked distortion in the architecture of the livers and ovaries of the treated groups, also, there was a reduction in ovarian cellularity and massive degenerated tissues. Conclusion: It is shown that exposure to crude oil contaminants orally could have a significant effect on the plasma level of hepatocellular enzymes, reproductive hormones, and oxidative stress parameters which in turn could lead to hepatocellular dysfunction, infertility, or impaired reproduction in mammals and cellular injuries caused by excess free radicals as signaled by plasma level of oxidative stress parameters.

The primary factor in ecumenism has been the church's unity. The World Council's Central Committee produced an agreed-upon definition of ecumenical in 1951. The word derives from the Greek word for inhabited earth, and it refers to the church and its efforts to spread the Gospel over the world. As a result, ecumenism is linked to the Christian faith's unique unity and mission in the context of the entire globe. In Nigeria, some State Governments have attempted to unify the key denominations of the Christian faith in an attempt to pursue this common mission by literarily bringing them under one roof. In other to achieve that, markers, and features of scared spaces for each of these denominations have to be identified and combined where possible. This paper explores how elements have been unified in the design of these Government initiated archetype.

Paraquat is an organic compound also known as methyl viologen, a chemical herbicide or weed killer with highly toxic effect on ingestion or exposure. Vitamin E and C are powerful antioxidants that act as initial responder against oxygen reactive species called free radicals which attack and destroy the tissues. The aim of this study was to determine a short term therapeutic effect of vitamin E and C combination on liver enzymes parameters of paraquat induced liver toxicity in male albino rats. 200 male albino rats were used for the study. The 200 rats were divided into four main groups (A, B, C, D) consisting of 50 rats in each group. The Groups were further divided into two subgroups having 25 rats in each subgroup. “A” group was not induced with paraquat while “B”, ‘C” and “D” groups were induced with increasing dose of 0.02g, 0.04g and 0.06g of paraquat respectively. “A” group had two subgroups; “Ao” and “AVEC” which represented the sub-group not treated with Vit E and the subgroup treated with Vit E (500mg) respectively. This also applied to group “B”, “C” and “D” paraquat was administered every forth night followed by treatment with the vitamins for one month. Blood samples were collected and analysed for liver function (SGOT, SGPT, ALT And GGT). Ingestion of toothbrush is an uncommon occurrence and most commonly seen in patients with psychiatric comorbidities and in adolescent girls whohave a medical history of eating disorders such as bulimia or anorexia nervosa who try to induce emesis. Long ingested objects, such as a toothbrush, cannot pass the gastrointestinal tract spontaneously therefore require endoscopic removal or surgical approach (in cases of unsuccessful endoscopic removal, development of life threatening complications and resource defective setting). We present a case of a 34-year-old male without mental health issues, neurological comorbidity or any obvious potential secondary gain, who accidentally ingested a toothbrush during a routine oral hygiene. After X-ray confirmation, the toothbrush was removed surgically.
