Natural and anthropogenic disturbances may threaten big game migration. Migration corridors span both biophysical and jurisdictional barriers, which create challenges for effective species conservation. Though corridor conservation in the Intermountain West of the United States gained traction with the 2018 Secretarial Order that directed the U.S. Department of the Interior to enhance habitat quality within big game winter ranges and identify priority migration corridors in the western U.S., public support and active policies at sub regional scales remain polarized. We surveyed registered voters in Wyoming, USA, to assess perspectives and preferences to conserve land and habitat for big game migration. We used online focus groups and phone surveys to assess attitudes and opinions specific to support for policies that conserve migrations, the believability of interest groups, and the efficacy of conservation messaging frames. Our results show that Wyoming voters favored policies that benefit both humans and big game, associated higher credibility with state agencies than federal agencies, and found messages that specify human‐centered benefits most compelling. We assessed beliefs across demographics, such as political ideology, but found few significant differences. Our work provides insight into dynamic perspectives and preferences for big game corridor conservation among critically affected public, which can aid future research and engagement to advance big game management. - Abstract
In order to monitor wildlife populations in a manner that supports policy makers and natural resource managers, data must be collected using frameworks and methodologies that allow for comparisons between projects and across time. Though hunting statistics may represent a reliable data source for monitoring population trends in game species, a standardised framework for collecting and analysing this data has never been established in Europe, even within countries. Here we describe a case study on the use of hunting statistics in Spain in order to (i) describe the variability in big game statistics collection frameworks across mainland regions of Spain and (ii) propose a minimum common denominator for a standardised approach at the country level. The main differences in methodologies identified are that each region collects different variables, uses different spatial and temporal resolution, and follows different methodologies. We described spatial patterns by grouping regions based on similarities in the hunting data collection system and identified socio-economic factors as a potential driver of differences in methodologies among regions. Hunting effort-related variables and improved temporal resolution (to the event level) must be incorporated in order to achieve country-level standardisation of methodologies. The use of application software to collect information from the field in a standardised way is recommended, which necessitates engaging stakeholders as part of the monitoring process. Applications software should be designed intentionally, and only after clear objectives for the monitoring program have been defined. Making hunting data open access will improve collaboration and information transfer to scientific and professional sectors. Our recommendations can be adapted to other European countries, which would make hunting data more useful for population monitoring and wildlife policy-making at large spatial scales. Initiatives such as the “European Wildlife Observatory” (), a network of wildlife observation and monitoring points in Europe, may improve data exchange and standardise protocols, leading to better utilisation of hunting statistics for European wildlife population monitoring. Using the case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in white-tailed deer, we estimated hunters' willingness-to-pay (WTP) for testing their game and determined how their perception of disease risk, trust, and confidence in wildlife agency affected hunter participation in ongoing disease surveillance. The average WTP for testing was $23.75 per deer, and it was positively related to trust and confidence in the wildlife agency and the perception of risk about deer populations in the declining area and the pathogen spreading to other areas. These findings imply that implementing active outreach programs can improve hunter participation in user-paid systems for CWD surveillance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Recreational hunting can have positive consequences on biodiversity conservation, but in many countries the number of hunters is declining. This downward trend threatens the sustainability of an important human activity that can be used as a tool for wildlife management and biodiversity conservation. On the other hand, in developed countries there is an upward trend in the number of female hunters. In this study, we analyzed women and men's hunting preferences in Spain, focusing our attention on the game species they were interested in. We found that female hunters were more interested than male hunters in hunting big game species. We discussed potential consequences of our results on the sustainability of hunting and biodiversity conservation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the article is to study the events of the big game, their reflection and comparison in Russian and English historiography. For its implementation, considerable amounts of materials related both to the time of these events and to modern authors were used. Since the research concerns the topic of political rivalry between the two states, the observation of a subjective attitude in some works is not unexpected. However, the works presented in the article generally stand up to historical objectivity. The Big Game is an important event in terms of what is essentially a forerunner of subsequent global conflicts, primarily the cold war.

This study was based on a temporal analysis of trophy quality trends and hunting effort in Chewore South Safari Area (CSSA), Zimbabwe, for the period 2009–2012. We selected four of the big five species, namely; buffalo (Syncerus caffer), elephant (Loxodonta africana), the leopard (Panthera pardus) and lion (Panthera leo) for analysis. Existing database of 188 trophies from 2009 to 2011 was reviewed and recorded using the Safari Club International (SCI) scoring system. Further, 50 trophies for 2012 were measured and recorded based on the SCI scoring system. Local ecological knowledge on trophy quality and hunting effort in CSSA was obtained through semi-structured questionnaires from 22 conveniently selected professional hunters in 2012. The results indicated no significant change in trophy quality trends of buffalo, leopard and lion (p > 0.05) over the study period. In contrast, there was a significant decline in elephant trophy quality trend over the same period (p < 0.05). The results showed no significant change in hunting effort over the study period for all the four study species (p > 0.05). Furthermore, seventy-two percent (72%, n = 13) of the professional hunters confirmed that elephant population was declining in CSSA and this was likely due to poaching. Professional hunters perceived trophy hunting as a source of financial capital generation for wildlife conservation (61%, n = 11), as well as positively contributing to the local economy (56%, n = 10). It was concluded that hunting has limited negative impact on species trophy quality trends when a sustainable hunting system is consistently followed in CSSA. CSSA management need to continuously monitor trophy hunting, animal populations and employ adaptive management approach to quota setting and species conservation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wild pigs (Sus scrofa) are a widespread exotic, invasive species that pose ecological, agricultural, and human health risks in their invaded range. Wildlife managers must manage wild pig abundance and range expansion to mitigate these risks. The diversity of stakeholders involved in the issue of wild pig management complicates efforts to manage the species, and, to be successful, wildlife professionals must consider the human dimensions associated with wild pig management. The prevalence of privately owned lands in Texas, USA necessitates cooperation to enact effective management policies. In this study, we investigate the impact of hunter motivations on wild pig harvest quantity. Motivations driving wild pig hunting are diverse. While the majority of wild pig hunters in Texas are motivated by trophy value, meat-motivated hunters harvest more wild pigs per day afield. Wildlife managers should develop plans that include various management techniques to control wild pig population growth and damage. Education and outreach will continue to be important for involving private landowners in effective wild pig management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wild pigs (Sus scrofa) are a widespread exotic, invasive species that poses ecological, agricultural, and human health risks in invaded areas. Wildlife managers often manage wild pig abundance and expansion to mitigate these risks. The diversity of stakeholders involved in the issue of wild pig management complicates efforts to manage the species, and, to be successful, wildlife professionals should consider the human dimensions associated with wild pig management. The prevalence of privately owned lands in Texas, USA necessitates cooperation to enact effective management policies. In this study, we investigate the factors that affect a hunter's likelihood to participate in wild pig hunting. Multiple factors affect participation in wild pig hunting activities. We found that participation in other types of big game hunting increased the likelihood of participation in wild pig hunting and that wild pig hunting does not deter individuals from participating in other types of hunting activities. Additionally, hunters' attitudes toward wild pigs are important in determining the likelihood of participation in wild pig hunting. Finally, our results suggest that hunters are largely uninformed about wild pigs and do not hold the same perceptions, values, or tolerance levels of the species. The diversity of preferences among wild pig hunters necessitates that wildlife managers consider the desires of the public as well as natural resource needs in creating socially acceptable management plans for the species. MOOSE , *WATER levels , *HARVESTING , *HIGH temperatures , *WILDLIFE management - Abstract
Alaska moose (Alces alces) hunters have expressed concern that harvest has been challenged by warmer temperatures altering moose behavior and low water levels limiting boat access to hunting areas. The environmental impacts of these changes on moose harvest have not been quantified and are not well understood. Our objective was to assess how environmental conditions impact hunter harvest in Interior Alaska from 2000-2016. We split hunters into categories (local or non-local) and analyzed relationships during 5-day blocks that spanned the moose hunting season. The local harvest model associated high water level with increased harvest during block 4 (peak-harvest) of the hunting season (p = 0.006). A water level increase of 1 m increased daily harvest by 1.5 (p = 0.003). Non-local harvest was significantly different than null models for block 2 (p = 0.001), 3 (p = 0.048), and 4 (p = 0.001), and nearly in block 5 (p = 0.063). The non-local harvest model associated an increase in mean high temperature with reduced harvest in block 2 (p = 0.004) and block 5 (p = 0.037), and an increase in water level with increased harvest in block 3 (p = 0.083), 4 (p = 0.017), and block 5 (p = 0.092). These results reveal that local and non-local hunters are impacted differently by environmental conditions throughout the hunting season. We provided quantitative information on previously untested hypotheses regarding the impacts of dynamic environmental conditions on moose hunter harvest. Our findings provide wildlife managers with new insight on causes of variation in harvest among different user groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ecosystem services typically benefit multiple groups of people. However, natural resource management decisions aiming to secure ecosystem services for one beneficiary group rarely consider potential consequences for others. Here, we examine records of moose hunting in Vermont, USA, a recreational ecosystem service with at least two beneficiary groups: hunters, who benefit from recreational experiences and moose meat, and residents, who live in hunting areas and benefit from hunters' expenditures. We ask how the allocation of hunting permits has affected (1) the total number of hunters and therefore the benefits enjoyed by this group, (2) the benefits residents received, and (3) the spatial distribution of benefits for each group. We found that changes in the allocation of permits had heterogeneous effects on the beneficiaries. For example, increasing the number of hunting permits increased the total number of hunters, but not necessarily the number of residents who potentially benefit. Also, a more balanced distribution of permits across Vermont increased the total number of potentially benefiting residents, but not those from lower socio-economic groups. Understanding these differences and interactions between beneficiary groups is necessary to distribute benefits equitably amongst them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Classic methods of stocktaking big game living in a given area have many disadvantages. The main result is the need to ensure appropriate terrain and weather conditions and also require the involvement of a large number of people, so-called observers. The development of technology makes it possible to create new stocktaking methods that will not have as many of the above-mentioned disadvantages, while reducing the cost of stocktaking and increasing its accuracy. This paper presents an analysis of the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles, so-called drones, in combination with the observation of game in the infrared wave range with the use of a thermal imaging camera. The paper presents the concept of such a solution, which will of course be further developed. Raids are planned with the use of thermal cameras over areas according to strictly defined transects and subjecting the obtained images to analysis, also with the use of artificial intelligence methods. This article was written as part of the PBL project carried out by a group of students from the Silesian University of Technology under the supervision of dr inż. Arkadiusz Boczkowski.

Populations of North American bison (Bison bison) are widely presumed to have remained stable, numbering in the tens of millions, right up until the hide hunts of the 1870s nearly brought about extinction. Recent scholarship from various disciplines consistently undermines this presumption. Indigenous people likely affected bison populations from their arrival toward the end of the Pleistocene. By the time of Columbus, indigenous populations were high and their impacts were felt keenly. As documented in the 16th century journals of Cabeza de Vaca, big game populations, including bison, were suppressed by hunting. That changed, however, with arrival of Old World diseases that are estimated to have reduced indigenous populations in the Americas by 90 % within a century of contact with Europeans. Such drastic reductions in indigenous human populations allowed bison populations to expand. Gradually, increased pressure from human hunters, along with competition from feral horses, introduced infectious diseases, habitat changes, and droughts, all suppressed bison populations well before the notorious hide hunts began in the 1870s. The hide hunts were the final blow to free-ranging bison, but reduced populations in the decades prior paved the way and helps explain why bison were reduced to near extinction within a few years.

- Abstract
Hunting is a resource of rural areas that is traditionally exploited. In the current context, it is conceived as an economic activity that contributes to the creation of employment in municipalities immersed in a profound demographic regression, provided that it is practised in a sustainable manner. The aim of this work is to analyse the geographical distribution of big game hunting reserves in Extremadura and the demographic dynamics in which the municipalities concerned are immersed. For the analysis, official statistics on both variables have been compared. The results obtained show the wide territorial distribution of the big game reserves, which have been clearly expanding in recent years, throughout the different physiographic units, and the regressive demographic trend in the municipalities where they are located. As a result, we propose a discussion including measures that could contribute to generate a greater economic impact in rural areas., La caza es un recurso de los espacios rurales que es objeto de aprovechamiento tradicional.

Doküman analizi yöntemiyle hazırlanan makale, bölge ülkelerinin yanında küresel aktörlerin dâhil olmasıyla ciddi bir rekabetin gerçekleştiği bölgenin dinamiklerini ve gelişmeleri açıklamayı hedeflemektedir., With the dissolution of the USSR, Central Asia which is one of the politically unstable geographies due to border disputes and ethnic conflicts, holds important energy reserves. The increasing energy needs of major powers and the policies that the major powers attempt to meet these needs bring about the strategic importance of the Caspian Region, which has rich reserves. In the period from the foundation of the Soviet Union to its collapse, the resolution of disputes in the region could be more easily than in the present, since there were only two riparian states. However, with the participation of three new countries, which gained their independence with the dissolution of the USSR, have gained rights in the Caspian and a five-sided image has emerged. Because of being an important component in their fragile economies, energy makes the Caspian Region indispensable for the new states. Accordingly, (in addition to regional actors) important actors such as the EU, the USA and China, who want to increase their influence and to share energy resources in the region, participate in the power race in order to share energy resources and water surface. In this regard, the article prepared by document analysis method aims to explain the dynamics and situation of the region where a serious competition takes place with the participation of global actors in addition to the countries in the region.

This paper examines social institutions and norms related to cooperative big game hunting by introducing these explicitly into the basic economic model used to analyze moral hazard in teams [Holmstrom 1982]. Features built into Holmstrom’s basic model include effort to locate and acquire game, trophy taking and carcass sharing among members of a hunting party. The insights offered here are inspired by the norms of the Dumagat of Tanay in hunting, meat sharing and trophy taking. Among the Dumagat, the individual who acquires the game takes the head and the feet as trophy. The rest of the carcass is divided up along the lines described by Fabella’s [1988] natural team sharing formula. JEL classification: J23, J24

This article examines the concept of the “true hunter” (vrai chasseur) among big game hunters in French colonial Indochina. Drawing primarily on French language texts published by highly experienced European hunters between 1910 and 1950, it first examines in detail the true hunter ethic, which required hunters to hunt and kill their prey in a “sporting” (sportif) manner. This ethic involved adherence to an expansive and complicated set of rules related to stalking, marksmanship, knowledge possession, restraint, prey selection, choice of firearms and ammunition, and others. True hunting was regarded as by definition difficult and, as is argued, the practical realization of the true hunter ideal entailed not simply engaging in hunting as an activity, but instead successfully performing a very difficult but specific type of killing. The article's second purpose is to engage a paradox associated with the texts, their authors, and the ethic. While critical of other hunters for “unnecessary slaughter,” many killed staggering numbers of animals. This paradox is accounted for by placing the true hunters in the broader social context of colonial Indochina. Both their type of sport hunting and the virtuosity of their killing distinguished them from the indigenous populations that served their hunts and other European hunters. This virtuosity also legitimized the scale of their killing and placed these hunters into a distinctive social and moral community.

In general the councils of foreign governments are formed in ports and cities with which those governments have had relations and interactions. AlthoughEnglanddid not have any subjects or any trade with the southern states of the Caspian sea,it established a council inRashtand a council representative in Astarabad. It also charged some native employees from those states in these councils. The present study deals with the causes for the establishment of these councils byEnglandand the fate of their native employees. The study reveals that the founding of these councils only had political aims. The native employees did not earn much inspite of serving the British Imperialism.

The relevance of this work is determined by the presence of deep interests of Russia's foreign policy in the Central Asian region. Tasks that were solved during the study: 1. Analyze the evolution of Russia's foreign policy strategies in the 21st century; 2. Consider the geopolitical significance of the Central Asian region for Russia; 3. Formulate the main national interests of Russia in Central Asia; 4. To identify the main directions of the implementation of Russian geopolitical interests in Central Asia. The world has witnessed new trends and models of geopolitical relations after the collapse of the bipolar system, as the age-old system of two power blocs changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Central Asia, according to Mackinder's geopolitical theory, is the Heart of world politics. It was the chessboard of the imperial rivalry that existed between the British and Russian Empires, caused by their expansionist policies. Thus, there was competition between Britain and tsarist Russia for influence in Central Asia because of its location at the crossroads of various civilizations and the old Silk Road.

One of the most considerable measures of hunting management is to determine the number of game. Monitoring the population dynamics of the game is extremely important to prevent a decline in numbers, which can result in a significant reduction in the number of species or a reduction in the excessive number of individuals. The dynamics of the game population largely dependet of ecological factors and anthropogenic impact is more and more pronounced on game populations. Dana on the number of games and shootings were gathered from the period of 1955 to 2019, from the electronic databases of the Ministry of Agriculture, Statistical yearbooks, and databases of the Central Bureau of Statistics. With the reassessment of the scientific literature describing the reasons influencing the population dynamics of large and small game.

Purpose: To determine whether the presence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) decreases the risk of diabetic retinopathy. Methods: This was a retrospective, case-cohort study performed in patients with a systemic diagnosis of diabetes at a tertiary health care center from May 2011 to April 2020. A total of 43,153 patients (1,024 AMD patients and 42,129 non-AMD patients) were included in the analysis. A total of 1,024 age and diabetes mellitus (DM) duration-matched controls were chosen from the non-AMD group for risk factor analysis. The severity of diabetic retinopathy was compared between the patients with AMD and the patients without AMD. Results: Out of the enrolled 43,153 diabetic patients, 26,906 were males and 16,247 were females. A total of 1,024 patients had AMD and 42,129 had no AMD. The mean age of the cohort was 58.60 ± 0.09 years. The overall prevalence of DR was noted to be 22.8% (9,825 out of 43,153 eyes). A significantly lower prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) (23% in non-AMD, 11.4% in AMD, OR = −0.43, P < 0.001), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) (12% in non-AMD, 8.2% in AMD, OR = −0.66, P < 0.001), and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) (11% in non-AMD, 3.2% in AMD, OR = −0.27, P < 0.001) was seen in the AMD patients. No significant difference was seen between the dry and wet AMD. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, the lower age, absence of AMD, and male gender were associated with a higher risk of PDR. Conclusion: The presence of AMD was noted to statistically reduce the risk of DR. Our results may be useful in the field of resource allocation and awareness of DR.

S toga se u nekim predjelima grade zeleni mostovi, tuneli i drugi prijelazi koji olakšavaju migraciju životinja., The purpose of this paper is to show some animals which by Hunting Laws are placed in the category of Large game, to show their migrational tendencies, problems they face when migration is not possible and precautious measures that ensure the reduction of the fragmentations in the habital areas. These animals migrate for many reasons but mostly the cause for them is to forage for food, shelter and species preservation purposes. Migrating animals are found all across the animal kingdom. Animals are using every medium for it, for example fish migrate in the sea etc. Types of migrations are by flying, swimming, walking and drifting. Despite all this we are talking of one of a kind biological phenomenom which is on of the defining elements of the animal kingdom, their mobility. Animals that are more effective in migration survive longer and raise quite larger number of offspring. Today, considering that the fragmentation of habitats is larger due to modern society's need for space for modern highways, apartment building's etc. Also a large part for this is building borders and fences around countries of which a migration by land is disabled. In case of modern highway's natural crossings are some of the things that need to be ensure for animal and human safety.

Big game fishing in the world is equally represented at sea and in fresh waters, and the Adriatic Sea occupies an increasingly important position on the map of the world's Big game fishing destinations. It is an extremely demanding sport, and catching large fish can take hours. It also requires large investments in the necessary tools such as fishing rods, reels (nylon or braids), basics with a minimum load capacity of 30 lbs, circular types of hooks and lures. As such, it is extremely suitable for the development of tourist destinations and more and more countries are including it in their offers. The most important species are tuna, swordfish and other larger fish of the open sea. Some of the fishing techniques used are spinning, trolling, drifting, jigging and those techniques along with the most important species in Big game fishing are described in the thesis. In recent years, international tournaments in Big game fishing have been held in Croatia at destinations such as Jezera, Vodice, Poreč, etc., and as a sport, it is becoming increasingly popular. The further development of this fishery will depend on market demand and future regulations.

In this study, we investigate the factors that affect a hunter’s likelihood to participate in wild pig hunting. Multiple factors affect participation in wild pig hunting activities. We found that participation in other types of big game hunting increased the likelihood of participation in wild pig hunting and that wild pig hunting does not deter individuals from participating in other types of hunting activities. Additionally, hunters’ attitudes toward wild pigs are important in determining the likelihood of participation in wild pig hunting.

The conservation of biodiversity and rational use of biological resources should be conducted with a view to population genetics. Thus, the purpose of this study was to compare the genetic diversity of highly distributed red deer groups from Słowiński National Park (NP) and hunting areas (HA) in northern Poland using 10 dinucleotide microsatellites. In 254 animals, 112 alleles were observed with a high allelic number (NA = 7–15). The NP and HA groups showed high mean heterozygosity (Ho = 0.548 ± 0.063–0.613 ± 0.061) compared to other deer populations in Europe, although a slight decrease in heterozygosity and an increase in inbreeding was identified in NP, compared to HA. A high level of intra-group and a low level of inter-group genetic differentiation was found, which was supported by a high level of gene flow between NP and HA. Structure analysis revealed two genetic clusters (NP and HA) within the population. The HA cluster was distinguished by numerous private alleles, although the NP cluster was distinguished by a high frequency of two private alleles. These study results show that unhunted conservation areas may affect red deer density without increasing genetic diversity whereas hunting does not seem to have a negative impact on deer genetic diversity. This study affirms the anthropogenic impact on the red deer groups in both NP and HA. Ongoing monitoring of the red deer population with an effective sampling strategy is recommended.

For a long time, the world thought that the collapse of the USSR in 1991 would lead to a similar outcome in North Korea. Although the Kim regime suffered harsh economic troubles, it was able to distance itself from communism without facing an ideological crisis and losing mass support. The same core political myths are still in use today. However, after the DPRK left the ideas of socialist realism behind, it has become clearer that the ideology of the country is a political religion. Now, its propaganda is using more supernatural elements than ever before. A good example is the movie The Big-Game Hunter (Maengsu sanyangkkun) in which the Japanese are trying to desacralize Paektu Mountain, but instead experience the fury of the holy mountain in the form of thunderbolts. The movie was produced in 2011 by P’yo Kwang, one of the most successful North Korean directors. It was filmed in the same year Kim Chŏng-ŭn came to power. The aim of the paper is to show the evolution of the DPRK political myth in North Korean cinema, in which The Big-Game Hunter seems to be another step in the process of mythologization. It is crucial to understand how the propaganda works, as it is still largely the cinema that shapes the attitudes and imagination of the people of the DPRK.

Paleoindians in North America are often described as specialized big game hunters. Over the years a few sites that show evidence of diversity in subsistence pursuits have been used to argue that Paleoindians were generalized foragers. In this paper, we provide new information on the fish remains reported from the Shawnee-Minisink Clovis site in Pennsylvania, USA. This site has long been touted as an example of generalized foraging by Paleoindians. Through detailed Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analyses and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, we demonstrate that the previous reported fish bone from the Shawnee-Minisink site is not bone but a modern contaminant. We briefly summarize these findings and other published results to show that this single site can no longer be used as an example of foraging diversity by Paleoindians. Based on these findings we caution traditional approaches to identifying calcined bone and the use of single case studies to characterize Early Paleoindian lifeways.

Late Pleistocene societies throughout the northern hemisphere used mammoth and mastodon ivory not only for art and adornment, but also for tools, in particular projectile points. A comparative analysis of the mechanical properties of tusk dentine from woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) and African elephant (Loxodonta africana) reveals similar longitudinal stiffness values that are comparable to those of cervid antler compacta. The longitudinal bending strength and work of fracture of proboscidean ivory are very high owing to its substantial collagen content and specific microstructure. In permafrost, these properties can be fully retained for thousands of years. Owing to the unique combination of stiffness, toughness and size, ivory was obviously the most suitable osseous raw material for massive projectile points used in big game hunting.

Academic libraries produce and perpetuate their fair share of management speak - or, bullshit. We create checklists of core competencies to actualize our value propositions. We revere the Thought Leaders in the Innovative Library of the 21st Century. We create synergistic space to incubate the next big game changers. We create and administer committees and task forces that in turn generate a never ending cycle of emails to nail down agendas and meeting minutes. I will reflect on how this proliferation of empty language affects our collective psyche, and what we might do to shovel our way out and focus on meaningful work that provides resonance through all stages of our careers.

- Abstract
Context. Hunting transactions can be considered a composite good that includes various attributes or characteristics. Obtaining information regarding the utility derived from the different characteristics of the hunter's bag might help elucidate the purchasing behaviour of hunters. This behaviour is, in turn, an important aspect to be considered by land managers in adaptive hunting management. Aims. The present study attempts to identify the values given by hunters to species, landscape and management in the pricing of the hunter's bag. Our analysis is focused on the hunting bag characteristics and adds to previous research the joint consideration of the amount and quality (sex, age classes and trophy) of various species in the hunter's bag. Methods. We useadatasetof740forest hunting estatesatAndalucía(1162405hainthe south of Spain) with an important mixed-species bag composition and where 225 game-hunting marketed transactions were declared by the hunting managers, including 13 541 hunting journeys. Hedonic-price analysis and mixed-effect models are used. Key results. Our results showed that the composition of the harvested species (quantity and trophy of different species, sex and age classes), the activities related to harvesting and organisation of hunting events and landscape in hunting areas are relevant attributes inbig-game market transactions. In small-game market transactions, species and landscape are the primary significant variables found. The latter variable plays a more important role in small game than in big game. Conclusions. These findings indicated that hunting market values include, in addition to hunters'recreational experience, ecological and management aspects with a broader social scope. Implications. A further discussion regarding the possible conflict among hunter preferences, long-term game-management decisions and ecological goals is also provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2020 we studied the activity of wild game and the damage they have inflicted on the agricultural land in the Zgornja Savinjska valley. In random places we visually estimated the size of the land, its protection and the different species of wild game the size of the damage on the land and species of wild game which cauesed a damage on the land. We found out that the most damage was done by the wild boar (Sus scrofa) namely by digging through the meadows, pastures and corn and hops fields. The damage done by deer (Cervus elaphus) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) was in most cases negligible. There was no damage found done by mouflon (Ovis ammon musimon). Some land owners protected their land from wild game with an electric fence, scarecrows and colorful tape but despite the protection the wild game in most cases still got to the fields and done damage. We note that the extent of the damage was dependant on the number of the wild game, the amount of the food in the forests and how close the property was from the forrest.
